Every now and then I think I'm kind of sleeping on classpect analysis, but also what you have to understand about me is that I'm way less enchanted by the act of defining classes and aspects and way moreso by how individual Characters contextualize their relationship with their aspects and assign meaning to it based on their experiences

Something that I always found striking about late Act 6 Kanaya was the way she recontextualizes her relationship with her aspect as something so specific to her and her own experiences. Something about the juxtaposition between Alt Calliope mapping out hard rules about her classpect, saying "This is what it means to be a Space player" "This is what it means to be X" while Kanaya talks about how her experiences formulated her own relationship with her classpect. It's a fascinating difference between them where I never think that the story tries to say that either of them are Wrong about how they view Space. But there's such an underappreciated depth there where Calliope is demonstrated to be somebody who's obsessed with rules, strict categorization, while Kanaya says "this is what my experiences have told me, this is what Space means to Me." And Alt Calliope saying things like Space players are inseparably tied to loneliness are interesting claims, but also putting these beliefs in context with each other you can just as easily see how Alt Calliope's views of space can be formulated by her lifelong (deathlong) experience with isolation.

I think a big reason that I always found it hard to engage with a lot of classpect analysis is that there's this insistence that classpects must have strict categories that define people, when throughout the comic we consistently see how things like aspects and classes mean different things to different people. The way that Kanaya, Calliope, and Jade all see Space and their relationship to it is so so different, I sort of wonder if they'd have any common ground if they actually discussed it between each other (or wrote their thoughts down and passed it around, as Calliope would undoubtedly dominate that conversation lol). The same goes for Rose and Vriska with Light, the Time players... I don't know, it's striking to me. I can understand why the rumored Hussie Classpect doc is supposedly only a sentence or so per classpect because what do you even say? When the variety of experiences is so broad among them, it's impossible to define Classpects cohesively. Alternatively, aspects are something strictly defined by the meaning that people (characters) assign to them

i know i say this every week but i can't believe i'm seriously getting college credit for infodumping to my favorite professor about buddy cole for 45 minutes every thursday

#today's meeting was mostly about how buddy cole draws upon camp sensibility and essentially fits under the umbrella of drag expression #despite technically not being ''drag'' in the gender-alteration sense #i mentioned there's a buddy cole sketch where he calls himself a male impersonator and my professor got so excited like ''send that to me!!#and also we talked about aubrey a bit through the same academic lens too???#like not to force my silly little comedy creation into this academic analysis of buddy cole but like. yeah i'm doing a similar thing here!!#i think it was soup who described aubrey as ''it's like you're in drag as yourself'' and i quoted that to my professor and he was like #''yeah that's because of camp!!''#so yeah my homework is to read an academic analysis of camp so that's very fun #god i love this class. also scott IS going to visit my college next semester hell yeah!!!!!

#‘tell me about a time that you had to explain a complex technical problem to someone with little technical background’ no. fuck uou #i don’t Have an experience like this. unless we’re considering my incomprehensible rambles on here which i don’t think count as explaining #the problem is that i incorporate the arts into my engineering assignments and conversations all the time ex flute experiment for data #analysis class. and i have to explain what’s going on there bc most ppl in engineering do not know these things. but there aren’t really any #opportunities to do the opposite w arts ppl like no humanities class is giving me an assignment that lets me just go on abt coding or logic #gates or breadboards or whatever #personal #the engineering chronicles #also ‘why are manhole covers round’ ?????#this wasn’t a real interview ftr. just a practice one that im drafting answers to rn. but #edit okay just made up some bullsht abt a presentation to my honors class on coding. it’s not totally bullshit because i did actually plan #to give a presentation on this (assignment was to pick smth you know a lot abt that most ppl in the room wouldn’t and just talk abt it) but #ended up not having to bc it was a super informal thing that we wound up moving on after a class period but they don’t need to know that so.

I've finished Ch11 in Engage, and like, no details bc spoilers obviously, but hrmmm the narrative is doing something and I haven't quite sorted it out in my head to even explain what it is doing, but it is so very good like, the narrative is actually so carefully and thoughtfully written in ways I was no expecting and I want to articulate it, but I haven't found the words yet, but hnngh

#my bookshelves aren’t Dewey decimal anymore technically because the labeling got to be too much but i made my own rudimentary system #that involves separating books by genre/type ->#general fiction; books about lesbians/gender/queer theory; history and class analysis; scifi; comics; art books #and then there’s a small shelf of old fragile books from when i was little that were passed down to me #and within each section the books are alphenatized #but from when i was 9-13 they were hand labeled Dewey decimal. then i started having too many books

Do believe I know the Prominent GO Tumblr Person and the post you mean. If it is what I think then I even sent them a nice, polite, non-confrontational message explaining the whole thing about Maggie's rent and how wrong it was to call Aziraphale a money-grubbing uncaring landlord out to exploit his poor tenants or whatever they were using to excuse their vilification. Their reply was less than charitable, to me or Aziraphale. Kind of annoyed me a bit and I've been ignoring them since. 🙂

Yeeeeeah, they really decided to make hating Aziraphale their brand for a while there, which is a shame because they wrote some really great fics! I finally unfollowed when their blog turned into an X-Files one. I hope they're happier now at least, and that they won't someday decide Scully is a class traitor or something.
