she tried her best to make sure he was happy. his cookie recipe comes from her. his love for mystery novels comes from her. but when he was to become Headmaster, she was assigned to properly train and prepare him for his fate as the next Ozma
though, she was the reason he formed his inner circle to begin with. she always told him to find friends, and keep them close. as close as you can, so you will never be truly alone.
he trusted James, he trusted Glynda, and Qrow, and Theodore and Leonardo, too. he trusted his allies.
he did what she said...and it still turned out so bad...she tried so hard for him, and the world really was against him at every turn

On the "original" korean script
its pretty certain that LoP has been a smash hit, i really hope they go back and do a korean dub
I REALLY WANT TO SHARE THIS. i fell down the translation rabbit hole after looking for a specific translated version of pinocchio
so, Carlo is way franker in the original korean version.
taking this really important line in the game. In english, the line was translated to
"I don't care if an old man like that kicks the bucket!"
I feel like it's way harsher in the korean version. in korean it was
"그깟 늙은이, 죽어도 상관 안 해"
which to me is more like "That old geezer, he can die for all I care." (literal translation would be like.. "That oldie, don't care even if he dies") In korean it's not so much a one to one translation as it is different conjugations and grammar depending on respect and the speaker. he doesn't literally call him an "old shit" but "그깟 늙은이" is let's say, carlo being very flippant
(if there are any korean speakers, yall are probably better than me, if you can refute or confirm this plz lmk)!!
ALSO: I went and I checked the Riddler's phone calls and they do also rhyme in korean!!? imagine adapting all that!! That is such the translation feat!!

The line in korean strikes me as more tragic.

(or save my son Carlo) confirming that geppetto did love Pino. just not enough.

in the english version, it was:

I think the english localization team took their own interpretation to adapt the story which is really cool to see. Like Geppetto keeps calling us his "good boy", there's no real equivalent to that in korean perhaps, but it's infantilizing and uncomfortable to an english audience (Pino may be young, but he's still a far cry from what we would call a "child"). plus there's that added BioShock inference for good measure

interestingly, there is no mention of carlo in the korean version at some points where the english version mentions him, and sometimes Carlo is mentioned in the korean lines when the english version omits this. [edit note: it may have been because of test players comprehension of who exactly carlo was at this point in this story]
also, there is no difference between "doll" and "puppet" in korean as it is in english (as far as I know), and they use the word 인형 in the game where it was translated to "puppet" (when it would be generally translated to "doll"). In english, a "doll" indicates a toy generally for young children, while a puppet denotes a figure or figurine that is manipulated by a puppeteer. I really like that, it makes the setting even more story-book like
another note, carlo calling geppetto "old-ass" suggests that geppetto had him in his old age. In english "old man" is often an affectionate term for your father, so there's a difference there. in korean, i think carlo is simply insulting him LOL

man it's been forever since i've been in an active fandom and yall are wild. first off, i get the upset over jlh a little bit, but also - she isn't a writer and she doesn't know and yall have to understand this is network tv and a buddie storyline would still be kinda wild. like i know we want society to be at a certain point, but it just isn't. buck being bi was huge in terms of progress so to turn around and expect him and one of the other masc leads to get together immediately is not realistic.
yall are freaking out that ryan called eddie het but like, he canonically is rn? like you understand that, right? we can headcanon till we're blue in the face but as far as the stated narrative is concerned, my boy is, tragically, straight. what ryan said, imo, was exactly what i was thinking re: baby steps. like buck's arc is going to develop - it sucks it has to be like that, but with tv at current, you're not getting 2 queer storylines back to back like that. honestly, because they went bi buck and not just... buddie happening. from a writing perspective, it would be... really hard to make eddie also come out and then them get together. like writing/story wise it would be hard for it not to feel repetitive. it was just not gonna happen, and i think ryan wanting to appreciate eddie accepting buck is, like, fine?? that is the story we're being told right now, and so he's basically like lean into this moment instead of jumping ahead.
he literally said baby steps (and yeah i know he said if anything but the point is he doesn't KNOW) and i feel like i had that exact same thought, like anything we get at this point will be baby steps bc if it was suddenly poof they're together, it would read rushed.
yall need to take a collective breath and just understand it was never gonna happen this season. i get wanting it, but it just was not realistic? so many shows go through this and there's never any queer rep at all, and yes, times are changing, but they haven't changed that much. buddie has way more chance than any other ship like them, so just... breathe. do fandom shit. accept there's a CHANCE and that's more than i would've said a year ago. but it's gonna take a few seasons. baby steps.

Ok but in true ask tradition! :U im hijacking this ask to talk about a dumb theory thats been rolling around in my head for like 2 years now: android 16 and broly similarities:
Ok so. If you aren't aware. The android arc of dragon ball was originally going to focus on the androids 19 & 20 and trunks even names them specifically
But Toriyamas former editor, Kazuhiko Torishima, didn't like them as the main antagonists and so Toriyama changed it to focus on 17 & 18 as the bad guys and introduced 16 as a sort of mystery
Now. This gets almost completely dropped once that same former editor ALSO doesn't like these androids and cell becomes the main villian for the arc (yeah yeah, the bomb thing is technically *there*, but its so inconsequential most people forget its even a thing :T )
So. Idk exactly when movie 8 went into production, but we know Brolys LSSJ form was inspired by trunks SSJ grade3 form that appears several chapters after cell has been introduced and the androids have become power-up fodder, so im gonna argue its safe to say the decision to move away from their story had been made
(side tangent that I find absolutely hilarious btw- despite gokus commentary in the HTC, SSJ grade 3 was the strongest form of ssj we saw at this point, so its pretty appropriate to use it as the basis of the strongest scariest ssj form.... rrriiiiiiiiggght up until toriyama introduced SSJ2 on Feb 2, 1993- near exactly 1 month before the first Broly movie hit theaters. Completely undermined what, up til then, looked like a trend in stronger form = bigger and beefier right as the big beefy strongest guy ever movie came out 🤣 absolutely love it!)
So anyways. The movies overall also tend to have varying degrees of similarities with recent arcs in the show and Toriyama, while not overly involved, would give the studio designs and story notes. And. Idk. Yall can tell me im reaching if ya want, but: A guy who's made into a weapon by his father who's on a quest for revenge and has this conflicting view of his son as both someone he feels he failed to protect, someone he cares about, but also as a tool for that revenge, and someone who's destructive power hes become deeply afraid of.. now where have we seen somethin like that 🤔 may be an extra reach but I also think its neat that despite their different face shape, Toriyamas gave em the same expression

And yeah, to me atleast, it explains why hating goku specifically gets shoehorned into brolys backstory (listen I can absolutely do the mental gymnastics to make it make sense! I'm fine with it! Anyway. My last note is just this statement from Toriyama about 16 and Gero. The way gero is presented is really in line with how I see Paragus as this tragic failure of a father- honestly caring about his kid, but letting grief and revenge drive him into conflicting corners where he wants revenge FOR the life denied his son, but also actively shaping his son into such a terrifying weapon that ultimately hed rather his kid just never be conscious cause thats the 'only way to keep them safe'

VOTE FOR HERA. my final, last-minute appeal: her character arc is fundamentally about identity, autonomy, and being seen the way she wants to be seen. the way she navigates her identity as a woman in this context is inherently transgender, and that IS sexy. she's funny, she's passionate, she's sweet, she's been let down repeatedly by almost everyone she's ever met and she still opens her heart to people because she so badly craves connection. she's frustrated, touch starved, and pent up, and was initially rejected from service because of her impulsive, emotional, unorthodox way of thinking. i have so much more i could say on her behalf, but this IS a contest of sex appeal. thinking outside the box, breaking rules, and reaching beyond the limitations of her own form is so central to who she is. hera could come up with freak shit beyond the comprehension of the average person, and she IS enthusiastic enough to make it work.

And Zelda. GODS dont get me started on how much she cares for this man cuz shes just as whipped. Is literally his bestie as Sheik (while giving him the biggest bi panic) and fucking fights a shadow demon and stays by his side until he wakes. Sends him back out of love because she wabts him to regain the childhood he lost while she sacrifices hers (all she wanted was for him to be happy yall😭) and they still stay together in a new life because theyre bond is just that strong.
EVEN IN DEATH YOU SEE IT. Hero Shade misses his wife sm guys, what can I say. The guy literally used Zeldas' lullaby as an entrance to the most sacred weapon of the land and lingers by the castle like crazy (3 out of 7 skills are there)
The manga just speaks for itself, like theyre so in love.

They are something worse*. (addition for clarification: compared to what you think of when you accuse someone of being a nazi/fascist nowadays). They are no conviction no lean people, Shiv included. Who do not care whether the next US president gets his ideas from Hitler, so long as the president is in their pocket.
they will fuck anyone and quite literally everyone for their own selfish interest.
Roman pushing Mencken win because Mencken favours Roman and has spoken to him nicely and told him they're going to go far. So Roman steps onto the floor and pushes the narrative, pushes them to call. (also funny the "we're gonna go far" thing esp compared to roman x gerri implosion).
Kendall who for a few second considers how this shit might affect his daughter (a far cry from caring about people in general but hey). That is until his ego is bruised by Shiv's scheming and he decides to agree with Roman... Pathetic, and tragic. Also a bad father, but overall yeah not a good person really. Just chasing his own validation/interest.
And Shiv. Shivy shiv shiv. Who has always been on her high horse because she was the one working for a left leaning politician. She was the one unmarred by ATN and all these duplicitous deals that happen. Until she wasn't. Until Logan dragged her into the narrative and then kicked her a bit just to test her. Until she was consciously part of the abuse cycle bcs up until then she was at least in her opinion much better than her brothers. Until she was making lawsuits and witnesses go away. Shiv who has always cared about people until they are NRPI, right? And Shiv who when given the chance to find common ground between Jimenez and the Roy bros throws it into trash because I guess she knows... she knows that if she calls Nate up she might be able to get something done.
So, she doesn't. She pretends to call and lies to her brothers because when weighing her own benefit (scheme w/ Matsson) against the well-being of the entire country (not having a nazified douche for president) - Shiv Roy chooses her own self-interest. She appeals to the brothers that they need to call for Jimenez, without trying to broker a deal which she now knows might be a no-go for them. But she doesn't sacrifice her self-interest to get them there. She doesn't talk to Nate or Jimenez, or tell them valid reasons why they should probably block the trade (general behaviour, dodgy numbers etc etc).
And this is why ALL of them are worse than just saying "oh my fave turned out to be a nazi"... nah they didn't. They are worse bcs they're flighty as fuck, trying to sit on the highest nicest chair, eat their cake, and benefit while shit hits the fan.
And they're still doing it because of a man who has died and has never listened to what either of them was saying, or wanted. They're still trying to validate themselves by proving to Logan that they're the best one. But Logan is dead, and wouldn't have approved anyway.
tldr; I LOVE THEM!!
* before I get people coming to my replies reblog and ask saying "you can't be worse than a nazi/fascist" let's just state that yes I agree with that statement and I don't want to be debating this to no end. if you compare how kendall shiv and roman behave vs what mencken (modern day fascist/nazi representation) is doing they are not on the same level imo. mencken while deplorable is at least less of a shady fuck compared to the roy siblings. I am not claiming that anything that has happened in this fictional series is in any way worse than ww2 atrocities.

oughh this is hard . uh . probably when we get his backstory honestly . everything really makes a lot of sense about him once you get that . its really sad but it really hammers in just how desperate he is to find a home. they dont really have anything else , their sense of being human is shaky at best because no matter how much he says hes just an ordinary man he knows he isnt . so having a place to belong to make up for the fact that there is nothing like them in the world and there never will be is something hes totally desperate for and their backstory hammers that in HARD . and just the art is just so well done ...something about the image of him just sitting alone in the desert really shatters my heart every time . honourable mention also goes to when he kicked the shit out of teruko , purely because its an excellent counteraction to people saying dumb shit about him being weak and pathetic

both because the lyrics/title mention vampirism, but even moreso because it talks about proverbial vampires fucking people over. Shinra would be the real vampires here, sucking everyone and everything dry of any life until all that's left is a husk. Cid being madly in love with a man who can and would tear him apart if he had even 1% less of self control over himself, and him being completely into it. Monsterfucker Cid is so real. This is what I would consider to be the most 'love song' of this playlist and should hammer home how I think Cid feels about Vincent.

It's just me in this world, I'm alone, I'm complete." The aura around the song makes me think of him emerging from the floor of the basement, post experiment, covered in blood and awake as Chaos.

This would be the song I would attribute as Vincent's feelings towards Cid. The song itself has religious backstory (it is literally a religious song) and I think that holds true for them.
