I don’t mean to come off rude but this has been bothering me for a while now, I’ve been a fan of your works for over a year and these days it’s really frustrating me that you don’t finish your works? People in the comments of your fics ask to be tagged in the next part but you rarely ever update when your author’s note says you will post other parts soon? Where is the update? Your readers show all this love to you and you as a writer have a moral obligation to your readers to at least give an end to any work you start! It’s been months since you updated From Eden you have amazing writing style and plots but you’re not even finishing them! It is unfair to your readers and followers who get invested in your fics please do better!!!!

It's like........ I love that drawing so much and the scenario is so fun but I feel like I need to slap a disclaimer on it LIKE. I think something I try to capture in my work, or at least I have in the back of my mind, is subverting expectations put on you and going against the status quo.

I. Honestly really don't have the words for it, but it's important to me that what's going on between Alfonse/Moe is explicitly queer. And I think, that may be easy enough, if you're romantically inclined, to do that. But you see, I exist in a very Weird Area of demiromantic/demisexual where it's like. Not even all or nothing. It's something that is extremely situational that requires a lot of setup/conditions to be met.

And I am just. CONSTANTLY. CONSTANTLY. Plagued by romance actually and I have all this Deep Knowledge of the ins and outs of amatonormativity what have you, and then I Make Art and it's like. Damn did we really unpack all of that or are you just equating "true love" to being seen and understood and respected for who you are as a person again. Like come on I thought we were over this. And also like, am I upholding the status quo actually, am I putting their relationship on a pedestal over any other dynamics Moe could have??? And I WAS about to describe it as romantic-coded but here's the thing. What the FUCK is romance, anyway????? Like. For real actually. Like. Is it a set of behaviors? Is it a feeling? For me, being in love feels like a deep and intimate friendship. And honestly sometimes I'm just completely confounded and frustrated over The Rituals. If I think too much about it I'm gonna see red and black out and start tearing things to shreds eith my teeth

I. Don't know where I'm going with this or why I'm saying it but it needs to be known. Every SINGLE time I draw something silly that's almost flirty I have to remind everyone I just went through the 5 stages of grief and 9 circles of Hell about it.

One learns, one doesn't

At the start of "Intuition", Gabriel ponders over his numerous failed attempts to defeat the heroes even with the power of the snake miraculous providing him numerous chances to change his tactics. Gabriel points out that no matter what he does, he is no match for Ladybugs "magical luck" helping her evade any and all dangers, and with the lucky charm constantly adapting, victory continues to stay by Ladybugs side no matter what changes he makes in one moment.

Gabriel genuinely believes Ladybug is only able to succeed because of her "magical luck" and her Lucky Charm, but in reality, this is far from the truth. While the lucky charm does provide its holder an item to help them achieve their goal, its power still remains as the power of creation, not luck. It's just as Cat Noir said back in "Determination", Ladybug's true power has never been in the objects her powers of creation provide her, its always been in HER figuring out how to use those objects. The Lucky Charm may help Ladybug achieve her goal by providing a hint to the solution she seeks, but it has always been her skills and her own personal abilities which have allowed her to make use of the lucky charm to find thee solution to the problem.

While Gabriel has grown to become overly reliant on the powers of the miraculous, Marinette has done the one thing Gabriel is often times unwilling to do as he remains distant and hidden, which is learn. Marinette is far from the girl who used to believe there was no solution to her problems, she has learned to harness her own personal skills and abilities and has learned from her mistakes and experiences as time went on, becoming better and better in trusting her own intuition to find a solution, with or without the Lucky Charm.

(Overtime, Marinette learns to trust her instincts, creating plans to stay one step ahead of the villains. In "Destruction", Marinette reveals she had already made a plan to protect her identity in the event Monarch ever got ahold of one of the kwamis)

Gabriel thinks Ladybug's luck is all magical, but its not, the luck has always been part of who Marinette is, and this luck continues to stay strong the more she is willing to take a chance to trust herself, her abilities and the people who are willing to help her and stay beside her along the way as she continues to fight for the greater good.

(No matter what strugglers she faces and no matter how close to defeat she is, Ladybug is never alone in her endeavors. So long as Cat Noir and her team stay beside her to help, defeat is not set in stone for her)

Gabriel might have taken all the miraculous in the miracle box near the end of season 4, but this change did not drag the heroes and the other holders down to the point of accepting defeat, no, they continued forward and learned to live life without the other miraculous.

Ladybug and Cat Noir learned to fight without the power of the other miraculous, and the former miraculous holders learned to find ways to help the heroes and Paris even without powers, forming the resistance and still being readily available to help the two heroes in whatever way they could.

Ladybug and the others, succeed because they as people have been willing to stand together and adapt to a situation, learning every step of the way. Gabriel on the other hand, is not as willing to do the same. If something doesn't work out, its because he believes he did not have enough power, if the heroes continue to win, its because they hold more power against him in more ways than one, and while he knows his attempts to continue using the snake miraculous have done him more harm than good as it has even sped up the cataclysm that is slowly inching him closer and closer to his demise, he does not stop.

Gabriel remains trapped, reliving the same mistakes again and again, refusing to move forward as he continues to find solace in bringing back the past life he once lived with Emelie. No matter what warning Nathalie gives him and no matter what cruel fate awaits Adrien, he will not stop, not as long as he can still give himself a second chance to take back what he lost.

(Nathalie becomes furious with Gabriel as he continues to willingly relive the same mistakes, refusing to learn that his actions have only made matters worse for them and Adrien)

On second sons in the series

Beth: I wanted to talk about, really quickly, about second sons. If I were going to write a literary criticism paper on this trilogy, I would probably do it on the theme of second sons because it’s — All of them are second sons, right? Damen maybe not traditionally but familiarly he is a second son. And we don’t really have a literary trope about that, that’s not like a thing but it’s a universal idea that the second son is always the struggler, the striver, the one that has to kind of rise above and meet the level of his older brother. Did that inform your writing, and if it did in, in what way did Paschal and the Regent and Laurent and Aimeric in some ways and Damen all second sons and how they are all strivers or strugglers?

C.S. Pacat: My… One of the types of relationships that fascinated my imagination the most is when two people are competing for the same role. So some of the character relationships that I found the most fascinating in other works have been like Faith and Buffy in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ because there should only be one slayer but are these two girls who should both be occupying that same space. Or like Thor and Loki in ‘the Avengers’ franchise because there can only really be one heir but here are these two sons who are competing for that same space.

So the idea of a role, someone trying to usurp, someone trying to stand there like who is the rightful person, what does that mean, what kind of pressure and tensions are created is endlessly fascinating to me. And I think second sons was just like a way of expressing that. Maybe even though there’s world building around the concept of bastardry and all of that and often it’s the bastard son in literature that’s like the Edmund or whatever from [King] Lear, has occupied that role. Maybe that was a little bit too on the nose for me and I preferred to just have—Oh no, I guess Kastor was a bastard but he was the first born. I like it—I like to have things just feel a little bit more intentional in that classic on the nose version, so that was why. I guess it’s true, I guess it’s just another reflection of the Oedipal Conflict as well, without, again, being exactly like: “Luke I am your father.”
