i’ve been wondering, how does windflight feel about two of his sons (tawny and thistle) grooming cats much younger than them into a relationship?

he.... probably doesnt care/thinks its weird people care?

okay so. first of all- most cats never really put two and two together for Tawnyspots and Willowpelt. Willowpelt was a warrior when she gave birth, meaning she was "basically a warrior" when they mated. he was also a pretty respected deputy so... no one wants to think of him as wrong/creepy.

the sad reality is Tawnyspots got off-scot free aside from his own minimal guilt. because at least he has some sort of regret, and its a mix of "i shouldnt have done that (but i wanted to)" and "i wish i had an actual mate and kits (if only i could have lived longer so Willowpelt could have been my real mate)"

Thistlestar on the other paw. caused a bit more stir- if he hadn't have chosen Spottedpaw, whose father was overprotective, and who became a medicine cat, or if she had been a warrior first- he likely would have gotten away with it, sadly. it wasnt to say cats thought it was okay for adults to date young apprentices, just that it was easier to brush aside as "oh but theyre in love so" or "oh but they're almost a warrior so" or "oh well nothing bad happened so." but Adderfang caused quite a stir and didnt let it be brushed aside, then Thistlestar joined RiverClan and became leader and suddenly his drama and what he did was blasted everywhere, where no one could just ignore it/pretend it didnt happen, because it was fact

and then a generation of cats are being raised seeing Thistlestar scorned by his birth clan for this, raised by cats who were raised by Adderfang and others to see that as wrong, undeniably

so... a lot more cats are understanding that what Thistlestar and others did was/are doing is wrong.

Windflight was not raised in that generation. He was raised in the generation of "dont do it but its not really that bad just frowned upon." Windflight himself had two mates: Rainfur, presumably around his age, and Poppydawn, who was a kit when he was a warrior (though if he was a young warrior or not is unclear; additionally, he never expressed interest in her when she was a kit/apprentice)

sorry but like the whole warrior cat community saw spottedthistle and went "this is unacceptable especially for this book series about minors" and then went and made amvs/pmvs and art about it the same way they do everything else in the series and it feels inappropriate

Tigerheart x Dovewing is predatory and ppl rlly need to accept that. You can’t just accept that Dustpelt x Ferncloud, Stormtail x Moonfeather, Spottedleaf x Firestar, or Sharpclaw x Cherrytail are creepy and gross but completely ignore that Tigerheart x Dovewing is the exact same. I don’t care that Tigerheart is a good father to his kits (which, honestly? He’s kinda just done the bare minimum. I wouldn’t say he’s outstanding or anything like that. If you want an example of good fathers, Tree is right there!!) but that doesn’t erase the fact that he started going after Dovepaw when she was barely out of the nursery and he was already well into adulthood. Had they started dating when both were adults there would be no issue, but that’s simply just not the case here. Tigerheart was also extremely creepy in early OotS to Dovepaw as well, I just don’t like it at all. I’m wary of those who openly support the pairing for this very reason, it just really doesn’t sit right with me

I completely agree apart from that last sentence, just because I find that many people just forget how the relationship started. I’ve seen several people be told about Dovepaw being an apprentice thing and it’s met with surprise. The problem with warriors is that there are just so many books people don’t reread them for ages and so go based off, for the most part, nostalgic memories, especially with OOTS. So I feel many current TigerDove fans probably just don’t realise how bad the relationship used to be, and only see it for what is is now.

But yeah I just wish TigerDove was called out more for being really creepy. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it the only canon ship apart from SpottedThistle where a warrior who was made a warrior before their love interest was made an apprentice actively dates an apprentice? I feel that should raise some really big red flags personally on that statement alone when literally the only other comparable couple (that I remember, please correct me if I’m wrong) is one where the adult was intentionally a pedo. I know there’s the whole Scorchfur and Qualifeather thing but they seem to be author oversight that never left the allegiances.

i know dullard dislikes romance so they dont need to answer this (and theyve talked about it on the old blog as well) but im curious- what do you think about romance in canon warriors lynx? do you find any pairings decently or well written? or do you think they're all poorly planned?

My brain isn't quite prepared to fully articulate my opinions, so here's the "I've been playing Slime Rancher for twelve hours within the past day and all that's on the mind is squishy slimes" version of my explanation.

The romance in Warriors is pretty bad overall in the quality of its romance arcs. You can kinda see where they were going for with them, but because this is a bookshelf fodder paycheck series, the execution is pretty much always worse than the intent. Fireheart and Sandstorm were intended to be enemies to lovers (sorta), but in execution, it's just a mess where Sandstorm's opinions on Fireheart take a 180 for no discernable reason and then Fireheart proceeds to make the stupidest decisions with her that just make you wonder why she still settles for him. Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw were intended to be ride-or-die lovers that slung insults at one other like best friends do but they know the other doesn't really mean it, but in execution, Brambleclaw is an abusive bastard and Squirrelflight is, while not blameless herself, his beaten-down lover. Rootspring and Bristlefrost are intended to be a cross-Clan couple where she has to warm up to the idea of being together with him, but in execution, it feels like the poor girl is settling for an immature child when she deserves someone just as good-hearted and mature as Stemleaf (and also the relationship was needed narratively speaking because of the whole half-Clan relationship breaking the code nonsense that needed to be pushed, which, can I just say, ShadowRoot would've been the better option, especially if Rootspring was a medicine cat himself? That'd be like triple-taboo! Come on, Erins!).

If you're gonna find any decent couples, take your eyes off the main focus of the page, but that won't even guarantee you a good couple more often than not (lookin at you, BlossomThorn and very very early DustFern). BrackenSorrel is pretty cute to my memory, but I haven't read TNP in almost ten years so I can't remember if there's any sketchy stuff going on.

If I were ever to make a semi-canon-compliant rewrite of Warriors, I'd take the relationships' intent and just go with that (sans SpottedThistle, I am not qualified to make a May-December Romance with an apprentice, Lord, that book is just a nightmare to everyone's characters). BrambleSquirrel is just the two being a badass power couple, SpottedFire is her being a spiritual guide and he's got a crush on the teacher that goes nowhere, and BristleRoot... BristleRoot doesn't happen and she gets with someone like Stemleaf while Shadowsight and Rootspring have to deal with the forbidden relationship nonsense because 1) they're cross-Clan, 2) Shadowsight's a medicine cat, and 3) Rootspring is a medicine cat!

Anyways, I've read Spottedleaf's Heart and even if it was shitty, I enjoyed it. So here's some Spottedthistle for ya all.

It's defenitly an unhealthy relationship and it kinda implies Pedophilia but it just gives me the chills and sometimes is this all I want.

I am not sure about the designs and if I will stick with them but we will see.

I was thinking of making a Spottedleaf pmv with the song “Dear John” by Taylor Swift, but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. I wouldn’t romanticize the SpottedThistle ship at all, and I would address the issues about it, if I do post the video. Do you think I should do it? Or is it too controversial?

I feel like as long as the topic isn’t romanticised and handled respectfully and you put trigger warnings and a disclaimer at the start of the video you should be fine. I’ve seen some well handled pmvs made about this topic/book before and I haven’t seen any backlash to them.
