I've grown up without a traditional father figure. My dad is very much present in my life & fulfils a parental role, but not a fatherly one. & I think this has been to my great benefit. The role of father- Not inherently, but in current patriarchal society- is, I believe, largely harmful. Having grown up without a father figure, I've felt much less pressure from my family to conform to patriarchal society & I'm sure part of this is also just because my family is rather progressive, but the lack of toxic masculine figures in my life helps at the very least.
