The Spanish Grand Prix is over and, as expected, Max Verstappen is the winner! He crossed the line with a big margin in front of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
The new upgrades on the Mercedes seem to work better than expected before the race, because they clearly were the second fastest after Verstappen. Russel even made it from P12 to P3, which is a big accomplishment in Barcelona, a track where overtaking was nearly impossible over the last years. But this year it was remarkable, that after they got rid of the chicane in the last sector, overtaking on the main straight seemed almost too easy, because there were many overtakes, and the driver in front almost never had a chance to defend.
At the start Verstappen was attacked by Carlos Sainz in the first corner, but Verstappen kept the first place, behind them, Lando Norris, who started from P3, damaged his front wing as he touched the left rear of Hamilton, so Norris had to change his wing and lost the race early. The race itself was rather uneventful, not even one single yellow flag, no retirement, nothing really spectacular. Only remarkable things were the pit stops, because they were really slow in general. I can only remember to have seen two stops under 3 seconds, some even took 5 seconds. Also Haas had big tire problems and also problems with the rear jack, because they didn't get the car up in the rear twice. The predicted rain wasn't coming and so the race was rather boring.

The Qualifying for Barcelona is over and it was a surprising one again. At first Q1 started with a slightly bit of rain and a really wet spot at the exit of turn 10 and also a wet curb at the entry of turn 5. Both these spots, especially the one on turn 10 led to some challenges and problems for the drivers and some were going off track into the gravel, one of them was also Fernando Alonso who went off-track after the last corner and damaged his underfloor. That was also the reason for a early red flag to clean the track from a bit of gravel that Bottas and Albon brought onto the tarmac.
The first (negative) surprise came at the and of Q1 were Charles Leclerc didn't made it to Q2 and just starts from the second to last place (P19).
In Q2 the track was dryer and so the session was a bit quieter, but not less surprising as Sergio Perez and George Russell got eliminated and were only starting from P11 and P12. Both McLaren were extremely strong and made it into Q3.
Q3 then was again a Max Verstappen show, the dutchman claimed his next pole position and was almost half a second faster than Carlos Sainz who came up second. In third place was the extremely strong Lando Norris for McLaren. Pierre Gasly claimed P4, but got penalized for holding up two other drivers and will only start from P10 today.
