So you know that scene in Season 1, Episode 13 Le Morte d’Arthur?
The one where Merlin is effectively telling Arthur goodbye because he’s not sure if he’ll make it back from fighting Nimueh?
You know, this scene-
Well, we all know that this episode was basically the epitome of Merlin stating his love for Arthur (see, “I willingly give my life for Arthur’s” and “I’m happy to be your servant until the day I die”).
But what if instead of Merlin just walking away to Arthur’s silence, the scene goes a little like this.

“Any other pointers?” Arthur asked, glancing into his goblet again.
“No, that’s it. Just…don’t be a prat,” Merlin said softly, his gaze never leaving Arthur.
The prince stared at him at this, a curious expression on his face as he contemplated his servant.
Merlin turned to go then but before he reached the door, Arthur’s words stopped him.
“Why does this sound like a goodbye?”
Merlin stopped, not turning back, head bent. “Every moment is a goodbye, sire.”
“Wait. Come back here Merlin. What are you talking about?”
Merlin opened the door, still not glancing back for he knew if he did, he would tell Arthur everything. “I have to be going. I’m sorry. And- thank you. For everything.”
And then he was gone before Arthur could question him further. But Arthur being Arthur couldn’t let the feeling go that something was terribly wrong…

And then of course, Arthur being Arthur, would have no choice but to follow him and after realizing what was wrong, do everything he could to help him.
Idk just thoughts. Merlin rewatch has me thinking….

Nightmare King by Noctus Fury
Season 1 Episode 13 "Total Nightmare"
I really enjoyed this episode as it gave Snotlout and Hookfang an extra layer of character development and growth. And it was really lovely to see a further inside look into the Monstrous Nightmares. That was a lovely treat! 🥰
I also loved seeing Snotlout bonding with both of his Nightmares. I could totally see him just hanging out with them or babysitting the babies so that Hookfang and Mrs. Hookfang could "go on a date hunt" or whatever. So precious! 🥰
Anyone else think that Snotlout should just establish a Nightmare Sanctuary. 👀
Though I have to say that I was rather disappointed that we didn't get to see the female Nightmare get named. "Female Hookfang" is rather... I'll just say it, it's LAZY!! Just call her "Dragonfruit" or "Ember" or something. 😩
It's also sad that we don't get to see her or the babies again. I kinda wanted passing scenes or mentions of them and see Snotlout occasionally see them with Hookfang. But I guess I'll have to satisfy that urge with a fanfic or three. 😤
It was also disappointing to not see the baby Nightmares. I'm sure they were adorable! 🥺

Episode 13: Beyond the Sea
Ohhhh BOYYY do I love when shows like this really turn the tables. This kept us on our feet, switched around the dynamic between Mulder and Scully, and very deeply turned this show into something very personal. Did it feel a bit gimmicky? Maybe. I don’t know.
I loved Scully’s desperation, the way she is so absolutely believing what’s happening but not wanting to, and how this time it’s Mulder who has to be convinced. It gives a bit of a glimpse, too, to what it could have been like if their roles were permanently reversed.
(Potential spoilers below)
Okay. I do think meh, it’s a bit convenient to show Scully’s parents and then immediately kill off her dad. Very plot-device-y. But I think it’s okay, for this show, which it’s also in it’s very first season and really needs to pull out all the stops. The way the song is used throughout the episode is absolutely eerie-- and this is NOT a song I normally think of as eerie. I actually felt sad for Scully, saw her pain and anguish and confusion and the way she so much wanted to believe, possibly for the first time so far in this show ever.
And we JUST met her dad!!!
That could be a testament to GIllian Anderson’s acting, the writing, or just that I’m already very invested in the show and the characters, and the fact that Scully thus far has not had very emotional reactions to much of anything yet (Ice is still my favorite episode in terms of the emotional aspect and plot), and this shows a vulnerability we haven’t really seen yet.
I liked this, for that alone.
And man, is that guy creepy. I’d hate for that to be the guy who can speak to my dead loved ones. Talk about a messenger.
