King Ghidorah x Kaiju!Reader /Headcanons/
────────────────────────────
Sorry for my English
Tumblr media
────────────────────────────
* Although he was banished from the so-called throne on the volcano, he was still looking for a territory to live in. (unfortunately for Godzilla). But he didn't expect the presence of another Titan at this place.
* The three-headed Kaiju was really shocked that you didn't challenge him. It's just that he accidentally wandered into your island, where you lived your days in peace. It was strange that Ghidorah didn't sense your presence in this place.
When they met, all three Heads were ready to attack, but instead received a rhythmic growl as if they were invited.
* Ghidorah was still alert when he was asleep or didn't "pay attention" to you. But you continued as you did your business.
No screaming, no assault.
Monster Zero believed until the end that you were up to something, given your quiet behavior around it.
But the more they analyzed you, the more they learned and understood.
* Still, it has dawned on the Kaiju that you are not one of those who will fight to the end for the land or at least part of it.
You'd rather share it to avoid slaughter. But this silence that was between you is very tense and you had to make contact with the Alpha Titan.
* If in the first days they avoided it, now they themselves need communication deep down. And it seems that an unknown person heard them, sending you with a fish in your mouth.
All the food you brought them, Ghidorah carefully examined and sniffed.
But there was nothing.
Regular food, fresh and large.
* Kaiju understood this time that you want to establish contact with him for further life on this island, so that there are no paradoxes.
All the Three Heads were happy in their own way, but only Kevin showed it, the others hid it behind a mask of neutrality in your direction.
* For a while, you just shared a growl or a nod of your head with each other. Later, it grew to a deeper level. From soft rumblings to poking heads in the neck. Due to the fact that Ghidorah is a rather large Titan, he has to bend down to get body contact from you.
Ichi and Ni are reluctant to do this, unlike Kevin, who is eager to come straight to you.
* The middle and right head (Ni) can only give you peace when the entire area is asleep. After all, they have their own authority, which must be adhered to.
* On normal days, you often fly above the clouds, trying to stay out of Godzilla's sight.
* If you're an underwater Titan, it's much harder to navigate the seas without being detected. Of course, you've made it clear to the others that you're on the path of peace, but Ghidorah has to prove it somehow, or take to the skies again from prying eyes.
* Your relationship has greatly affected the Monarch, who has reached the two of you as well. Of course, they didn't go unnoticed, receiving lightning in the face and your loud scream, which tried to stop the attack from the Titan.
* Actually, it was considered a symbiosis, but with you it is something more.
* Going back to your interactions, Ni and Ichi love to complain. Unlike Kevin, who just stares blankly at your reaction, or even into the distance.
* Your gentle growl calms them down to some extent. Especially the praise that boosts the Titan's ego.
* Ichi was of course planning a second attack, after hearing very nice phrases from you, which motivated him to do it again, but your hard paw slap on the face made itself felt.
* Ni, partly silent next to you. He doesn't really want to show his true nature in front of your eyes. Sometimes he can't control his irritation at anything and everything.
*And San... , it's just San. He's glad it's all gone, and he doesn't have to obey his "mindmates" and get bitten by the horns.
───────────────────────────
Initially, I wanted to lay out one shot with Rodan. I think he'll wait until the next day.)

Diseased Equilibrium

Start from Beginning
It is said that monsters roamed the Earth long before dinosaurs ever did.
Monsters.
How pathetic.
The small ones knew nothing about them. Nothing about him. They had forgotten their place in his kingdom, thinking that they were equals. She told him that the small ones were to be protected. He disagreed. Despite their size, the small ones have damaged his home. Sure, some had good hearts. For example, the small one with glasses that looked at him with respect.
“Goodbye…old friend.”
His small paw had touched his large, scaled snout gently. The old king was not used to such tenderness. He was used to claws slashing into his hide and sharp teeth tearing chunks of  his flesh. Not this.
No one saw the giant titan lean into the touch.
A blinding light filled the lizard’s vision. When it faded away, the gentle touch was gone.
The small one was dead.
Godzilla was tired. Dirty water flowed through his gills, something he had gotten used to. The king had many resting places throughout the Earth, but the small ones had destroyed his favorite one. It was necessary at the time. Even so, he was still upset about it.
This was his kingdom, and it was being ruined by the small ones. He was not one to forget nor forgive. Godzilla still remembered the metal object that had brought death to his oceans. Only the small ones could create such a thing. It had killed everything within its radius. Including the Fire Bird’s island. There was a time where the king would have felt sympathy towards the winged titan, but that time has long since passed.
Rodan deserved it.
Simply thinking of the titan angered him. Godzilla snarled to himself and exited his resting chambers. He swam into the open ocean. His long tail propelled him forward. The king’s anger increased as he saw the trash that floated throughout the ocean like it belonged there more than the creatures. It wasn’t that much of a stretch. The garbage of the small ones were quickly replacing the fish at an alarming rate.
A buzzing interrupted his thoughts. It was familiar. It was annoying .
It was the small ones.
This was the group that enjoyed studying him. Godzilla was in no mood to entertain them, so he snapped his jaws at the metal capsule. It quickly sped off into the depths.
Godzilla soon breached the surface of the water. The air was just as dirty as the ocean. He knew the balance of the Earth had been broken by the small ones. It was almost impressive. When the Three Headed Alien awoke, they did not cause nearly as much damage. They were weak. Still, Rodan had sided with them like the coward he was.
His treasonous actions did not go unpunished. Every titan had gone back to hibernation except a select few. That being Godzilla, his queen Mothra, and Rodan. The king would not allow insubordination in his kingdom. Everyone must follow his rule without question. Or else there would be dire consequences.
The king prohibited Rodan from flying.
He knew how important flying was for Rodan. The molten pteranodon was made to fly, it was a part of his very being. Godzilla took away that privilege the moment the battle in Boston was over.
Rodan hadn’t flown in years. If he tried, Godzilla would come by and tear the smaller titan to pieces. After Mothra’s sacrifice in Boston, Godzilla had acquired a strange ability. He could sense where every titan was across the Earth. When the king focused, he could see what a specific titan was doing. He checked every day to see what Rodan was up to.
Kong had formed a shaky truce with Godzilla. Ghidorah was dead. The only threat to Godzilla’s kingdom was Rodan. Loyalty was everything in this world. When it’s broken, it could never be fixed.
The King of the Monsters would make sure his kingdom was secure. He was willing to do anything to ensure that.
No matter the cost.
Once he spotted the outline of Infant Island, his dorsal plates glowed a bright cyan that he knew could be seen by his Queen. The radioactive reptile was furious at the disappearance of Rodan, the fire bird disappearing from his senses entirely. Godzilla had thought that Rodan would never attempt such a thing, especially with the king's threats of death. Despite how much it irked him to say, the pteranadon's actions surprised him. It was unexpected. Usually, any threat that the King of Monsters gave was taken seriously. No titan dared to test their luck against him. Any who tried would meet their agonizing end from his atomic breath. Even Kong had submitted somewhat. The ape was practically an infant compared to the ancient king. Even so, Godzilla begrudgingly agreed to a truce with the young alpha titan. If Kong ever decided to rebel again or attack, it would pose a problem for Godzilla. It was best to have the ape titan as an ally.
While it bothered the atomic lizard to not have Kong fully submit, he knew it was necessary to avoid future problems. That horrid axe that Kong had wielded caused a permanent scar along Godzilla's leg. He was relieved to see the younger drop the infernal weapon. However, Godzilla had a feeling that the little ones had gotten their grubby hands on the weapon. They would never fully understand its significance or strength. As much as the tiny bugs tried, they were not going to become the apex species any time soon. He was sure that the humans would try to create another weapon to defeat him. In all honesty, Godzilla was at his limit with the humans. They were a pain in his hide to deal with. They weren't worth keeping around. Even so, Mothra incessantly begged him to spare them. She saw something in them that Godzilla did not. Perhaps it was their intelligence and ability to create the unimaginable. At this point, Godzilla did not care. The creation of the fake him was the greatest insult the little parasites could give him. After everything he did, they still wanted to exterminate him. To take his place as king. That was unacceptable.
He has kept the Earth balanced for eons, he defeated the pair of pests that were specially designed to kill him, he defeated multiple titans that would have killed millions before they could reach the humans, he eliminated the False King who would have terraformed the Earth and killed all life within it, and he recently destroyed their stupid metal titan that had gone rouge with the help of Kong. He had done so much for them. Yet they still tried to rebel.
Just like Rodan.
Godzilla roared in fury as he breached the waters. He and all other titans had felt the presence of the Three Headed One. The others would be arriving soon after hearing his commands to wake. It was the humans fault for keeping the alien's skull. This is what happens when those parasites mess with things they do not understand.
"Goji."
"Mothra."
His queen was waiting on the beach that surrounded the sacred island. Her body was tense, and her wings glowed a dull red in frustration. Both titans stared at each other without a word. A tension that rarely appeared between the two now suffocated them. Mothra had always told Godzilla to be less harsh on Rodan and more patient towards the humans. He had respected her requests for the most part, and he had done so for centuries. The moth knew that the king had reached a breaking point. She would not be able to convince him to spare the humans anymore.
In silence the two climbed up the tallest mountain that had a lush valley below. The row of mountains acted as a sort of wall for humans. No one besides her Shobijin could enter safely. Though, the twins that had accompanied Mothra for centuries were gone for the most part. The last remnants of her Shobijin were present in the twins that worked for Monarch, the only group of humans that actively helped the titans. She repressed a mournful sigh as they reached the grassy surface. Anguirus was waiting for them with a fearful expression. The spiky titan bowed once he noticed Godzilla behind her. It was a stark contrast to how the pair used to greet each other. Before Godzilla became the king, he was simply a fellow titan. Yes, he was stronger than them, but he used his strength to protect and support. Now, his strength was used to force submission to their fellow kind. In the past, Anguirus and Godzilla would greet each other with a wrestling match. One of them would pounce of the other, and they would playfully tousle until Mothra intervened. At times, Rodan would join in the mock-fight, which created an even bigger headache for the moth. She would do anything to have those times back.
Shaking her head to rid herself of her nostalgic thoughts, she looked at Godzilla directly. He may be angry, but she refused to be intimidated. "I suppose you are aware of what has happened?" Mothra spoke with an even tone. If Godzilla was going to rage, then she would keep her composure no matter what. Anguirus was already beginning to tremble as they waited for Godzilla's response.
A snort left the lizard's nostrils. "I am. It's hard not to be aware when that fucking bird has been on my radar for years." His lips curled in a sneer, revealing his sharp teeth.
"You know that Rodan is-"
"I don't give a shit if Rodan is 'upset' or 'troubled'! He knew what would happen if he disobeyed my direct orders, and he did it anyways!" Godzilla interrupted the winged titan with a roar. Something he had never done before. The titan even mocked her when referring to the many times she had told him to be more sympathetic towards the volcanic titan. His dorsal plates glowed an even brighter blue, an instinctual intimidation display. "Thanks to him, I have to find and kill that faker all over again! If it wasn't for your precious humans, Ghidorah's skull would have never been found! I should have never fucking listened to you!"
"Godzilla, you must understand that-"
"NO. I am not sparing those parasites ever again! I have had enough of their constant destruction and rebellions. Because of them, the Earth is more unbalanced than it has ever been! They're better off dead, and you know that! Stop defending them! They are worth nothing!" As his anger grew, Godzilla's long tail thrashed violently on the ground. The tip nearly hit Anguirus who had started to back away from the arguing pair. Each word that left his mouth shocked Mothra more and more. Her partner had never disregarder her in such a way. It truly showed how far Godzilla had fallen. Said titan was not done yet. "Those humans are dying today, Mothra! I am not gonna be convinced otherwise! And once I find Rodan, I'll kill him and that golden monstrosity! I am done with such insubordination!"
"We shouldn't-"
"Your input won't do anything anymore. The humans and Rodan have gone too far. I'll compromise with you on anything else, but not this. Those parasites have ruined everything! Rodan doesn't fucking listen while the bugs have been ruining MY WORLD! THEY ARE GOING TO FUCKING SUFFER FOR EVERYTHING THEY HAVE-"
"GOJIRA, BE QUIET!" Mothra screeched so loudly an so suddenly that Godzilla's mouth snapped shut. Her grand wings were spread out to make herself bigger while glowing a bright crimson. Her calm composure had finally shattered at the repeated interruptions and disrespect. "I will not be treated like one of your 'subjects' that you can push around with ease. I am your equal, Godzilla. Not your subordinate. Now, you will be quiet as I speak. Am I clear?" The warm voice Mothra was known for was now colder than ice.
All the anger Godzilla had been feeling vanished. Throughout the centuries of knowing each other, Mothra had never raised her voice in such a way, not even once. She was the level headed of the two. He was a raging storm that only calmed with her light. His vengeful and violent thoughts were starting to fade away as guilt slowly wrapped around his very soul. The betrayed look in his queen's eyes further strengthened the coils of the shame he felt.
Mothra took a deep breath to reorder her thoughts. "I have been by your side since this planet was created. It was never yours to begin with. The Earth does not belong to us, and it never will. We are the protectors. Not the owners. Not the rulers. Not the executioners. We have no right to get rid of what nature has created. Humans are inhabitants of  this planet just as much as we are. They have the sharpest minds of any creature I have ever seen. They create things, Goji. Can you think of another animal who can build the things they do? To think that they are parasites is wrong. Yes, they have hurt the Earth. Yes, they have ruined the balance. Yes, they have tried to kill our kind and even you. But they haven't exactly done it on purpose." She had been glancing at the horizon while speaking. Mothra hadn't wanted to look at her long-term partner. When she noticed the lack of response from the lizard, she glanced at him. Godzilla had been struck siIent. He barely breathed as he looked at her with wide eyes.
With a sigh, she continued. "I doubt any human creates something with the sole purpose of hurting nature. They need guidance more than anything else. Our existence has been a horrifying discovery for the humans. They fear things they do not understand. They fear you especially. We can't communicate with them properly in order to show that we aren't their enemies. I have seen many humans show kindness and attempt to learn about our kind. In turn, I have done the same for them. What have you done, Gojira? Have you taken a single moment to try to understand the species that inhabit this realm? There is so much more to them than destruction. I am aware that there are humans who have done horrific deeds. They made a machine to kill you and other titans. They created a bomb that killed all the life on Rodan's island while nearly killing you. Who were the ones that saved you, hm? Who were the ones that sacrificed themselves to pull you from the brink of death? If they hadn't intervened, Ghidorah would have destroyed the world! You cannot say that all humans are parasites when there are so many instances when they are anything but. The ungrateful one is you. You are millions of years old and are antagonizing the species that has existed for less that a fraction of that time!" Her voice raised slightly at the very end. It pained her to have to use such harsh words to the being she had adored for eons.
Godzilla still had yet to utter a sound, so Mothra took it as her chance to speak about the subject that was plaguing her the most. "Over the years, you have antagonized everyone. So much so that I have become your only ally. I do not know what happened to make you start asserting your power over our kind. I slowly saw you become someone  so power hungry that you were willing to kill innocent beings who you thought posed a threat. I let my own feelings get in the way of stopping you. I have tried to justify your actions in my head for so long, but I see that I cannot do that anymore. My intentional ignorance only served to help myself, not our people. We have lost so many friends, yet you still try to instill fear on the few titans that remain. They do not respect you, Gojira. You are astonished at Rodan's rebellious nature despite the fact that you have wronged him too many times to count. He is strong willed and will not give in to fear. You should know how reckless he is. I am astonished at how far you have gone to keep him in line. You eliminated the being he treasured the most. After you killed his kind, Rodan had no one to raise him except Quetz...She was powerful and apparently a 'threat' that had to be removed." Mothra spat the last word viscously.
Her wings sagged a little, and Mothra looked away once more. "I have a part in her wrongful death. My lack of action costed her her life. I will regret my cowardice for the rest of my life. Rodan has never looked at me or you the same way ever since...Do you know why Rodan switched sides so easily? Do you? Or do you just think Rodan became a 'traitor' for kicks and giggles?" The once powerful voice Mothra had started to crack. Her next words were spoken in a broken whisper. "He hates us, Goji. He hasn't been treated with an ounce of care of respect in centuries. Ghidorah, as shocking as it may be, saw him as the fierce warrior he was always meant to be. It is obvious why he would choose him over you...Why he would attack me so brutally...Why he has risked execution at your claws just to bring Ghidorah back..." She grew quiet for a long, long time. When Rodan had pinned her during the battle in Boston, she could see the amount of pain and anger Rodan's golden eyes held. It was the first time seeing him since coming out of hibernation, and he was not the same titan she once knew. The impulsive yet caring hatchling she had found one day had turned into a winged beast that only looked at her with pure malice. And she could not bring herself to be upset at Rodan in the least.
Godzilla attempted to speak, but found himself with no words to say. His normal response would have been to lash out and attack. However, this wasn't any other troublesome titan. This was Mothra. His Mothra. She has never sounded so angry, hurt, and disappointed in him before. The silence enveloped them. One now too guilt-ridden to speak while the other was in a state of shock and denial.
It was deadly quiet for what seemed like hours.
The silence was eventually broken by a voice they hadn't heard for over a millennia.
"You must have done something very stupid for my sister to be this upset and for me to be awoken. I wonder what it could be..." Battra spoke with a teasing tone that was underlined with a hidden threat. His dark red eyes narrowed at the silent king. Behind him, the last titans on Earth stood before them; Battra, Scylla, Behemoth, Methuselah, the Queen MUTO, Baragon, and Biollante. None of them were happy. Well...Except for one.
At the sight of the titan he thought he had killed, Godzilla's eyes widened almost comically. A wide smile appeared on a familiar face. One covered with green vines and sharp teeth.
"Hey, big bro! I can't wait to see how you've fucked up!"
This was going to be quite the reunion.
.
.
.
"Hey, Rick?"
"What is it now, Sam?"
"Is it normal for Isla De Mara to suddenly have a radiation spike?"
A pause befell the two scientists. Each had stayed late to try to figure out the disappearance of a dangerous titan and the reappearance of an even more dangerous titan. To say that they were stressed would be an understatement.
"Radiation spike?"
"Yup."
The older scientist took off his glasses to rub the bridge of his nose. A headache had been forming for the past hour, and the sonographer desperately wanted to sleep. Now, he had to stay up for the rest of the night to look into the anomaly in the supposed inhospitable island. What else could go wrong?
"Also, I just got an alert that Kong is nowhere to be found."
Rick slammed his head on his desk and groaned in despair. His hands grasped at his white hair and pulled.
"Is this a bad time to mention that we're also out of coffee?"
"GODDAMMIT, SAM!"
.
.
.
San nuzzled Rodan's head for the umpteenth time. The three headed alien had yet to leave the pool of titan essence. His brothers had yet to return, but he had at least regained his missing tail and scales. The warmth of the pool and his birdie soothed his aches immensely. Being used to power that machine, unable to die, was the worst experience of his life. It was cold. So, so cold. He never wanted to be cold again.
"When do you think Ichi and Ni will return?" Rodan asked softly. He didn't mind the hydra's incessant need for touch, it was the opposite. After spending centuries hibernating in a volcano and being outcasted before and after said hibernation, it left the volcanic pteranadon feeling a sense of loneliness so strong that it hurt. His species were social creatures. Most titans lived in solitude and didn't form packs or flocks. Rodan had always seeked out the company of others. After his falling out with Godzilla, he never truly regained that sense of companionship again.
It was a large reason why the beaked titan enjoyed being with Ghidorah. Each of his heads had a separate personality. While they shared a body, they did not share a mind. Ni tended to be more aggressive and temperamental. He attacked first and didn't bother with questions ever. His impulsive tendencies led him to gain the most scars. The right head had a cracked horn and split lip. Ni was proud of the scars and bragged to his brothers about being stronger than them. Ichi was the leader of the siblings and acted as the eldest despite the alien hydra being born at the exact same time. Ichi tended to be calmer than his two brothers, but he would not hesitate to yell at them if they were annoying him too much. His patience was limited, but it was still more than what Ni and San were capable of. The middle head had the strongest hatred towards Godzilla for the treatment of his brothers. Ichi was protective of his brothers and did not take kindly to the radioactive lizard ripping off San's head. Speaking of the left head, San was the most curious of the three. He saw Earth as something to explore instead of destroy. He was the most willing to try any of the food Rodan brought. Additionally, he was the most affectionate with Rodan as well as his brothers. San was still capable of being ruthless when he wanted to, however. Out of the three of them, San was actually the most protective of their fierce birdie.
While Rodan had spent only a few days with Ghidorah, he had grown fond of them surprisingly quick. The alien was protective, but they knew that Rodan was powerful in his own right. He had missed them more than he thought he would in recent years. They had met in the past, but it was always during a battle  or shortlived. Ghidorah would arrive on Earth, Godzilla would fight him alongside Mothra and any other titan who decided to help. This often included Rodan. The large hydra would retreat to space, come back, and it would repeat for years until Godzilla trapped the trio in ice.
A pleased hum left San's muzzle. "They seem to be more aware now. They'll likely regenerate completely soon." His eyes were closed in bliss. It was rare that the Golden Demise would feel such a thing as exhaustion or sore muscles. San did not enjoy feeling so...weak. He knew they were not supposed to be weak, but San knew better than to lie to himself and his brothers. They had been beaten badly at the claws of the Weak King and his infuriating entourage. The moth was a nuisance that had trapped them and given the stupid lizard immense power when the trio had incinerated her. She had pierced their birdie with a stinger that was filled with venom. Despite the years of battling her and her weak partner, Ghidorah had never noticed such a weapon. It made them unreasonable angry that the infernal insects would do such a thing, so they used their gravity beams to turn her into dust. It revived his well known opponent so much that all of their attacks were for naught. The dumb little creatures that had followed the titans around had also given the brutish king a boost in power. Not only that, but the annoying bugs had created a device that used cheap trickery to distract Ghidorah.
The next time Ghidorah would fight Godzilla, there would not be any cheap tricks that would aid the ugly reptile. No moth and no devices to help the king.
Ghidorah did not enjoy creatures who ruled over others. It was something the weak would do. And Ghidorah hated anything that was weak. The hydra enjoyed fighting, but not if the battle was rigged. While they usually won those unfair battles, it wasn't as fun. Additionally, the hydra had a special hatred for those that took control of the minds of others. While Ghidorah had done that himself, it was done to awaken the many hibernating titans. He didn't really control their every move because he was focused on other things like his birdie and defeating the old lizard. Ghidorah knew what it was like to not be in control of their own body. They knew how it felt to have every muscle move without their consent. The beings responsible are long gone now, but Ghidorah would never forget what they did.
A quiet chirp broke the left head out of his thoughts. Rodan had taken notice to how San had completely zoned out. San chuffed at the smaller titan to reassure him that he was alright. No other creature had ever cared for San accept his brothers. The three had always thought that they only had each other to rely on. This was true for most of their lives until a particular winged beauty came into their lives with a fiery passion.
They would both relish in getting revenge on the ones who wronged them. It would be a fight to remember.
At the thought, San purred and used his head to tuck Rodan close. It could take hours or even days for his brothers to literally come back from the dead. Until they returned, he was content to wait in the warmth of his fire bird.
Patience would be the most lethal weapon they'll need if they were to win.
And they would win.

I honestly love the design of the Ion Dragon in episode 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Every flying kaiju will always be compared to Rodan, but the Ion Dragon is one of the few that stands out pleasantly. The wings that look like the fins of flying fish and that anglerfish lookin' head... I think those were excellent vibes for this kaiju.
The scale is also great. Not every kaiju has to be the size of a building (something Kong: Skull Island did well), and this one being a small to mid-sized monster is pretty dope.

godzilla x kong: the new empire
"For most of human civilization, we believed that life could only exist on the surface of our planet. What else were we wrong about?"
Tumblr media
okay, I kind of fell off doing this, but we’re back! the best ever tumblr review series that’s written by avillanappears.tumblr.com! I came in not expecting much, but it turns out I really, really liked it, actually! I’m more pleasantly surprised than anyone, godzilla vs kong rubbed me very much the wrong way. godzilla and kong beating the ever-loving tar out of each other was fun, sure, but I have WORDS for the human stuff. I could fill a whole post with those, probably, but we’re not talking about that! we’re thinking good thoughts, about the one I liked!
it’s definitely a fun adventure film. hollow earth was a much more fleshed out setting this time, I loved the varieties of locales and creatures. giant, flying flamingo fish that shoot electricity? kong crossing a rickety bridge made out of the spine of a monster so massive, that it’s kaiju sized compared to him? this is exactly the sort of thing I wanted to see! it was fascinating seeing kaiju sort of “on their level”, in a whole giant sized ecosystem made for them. we got some of that in the atomic time of monsters by @tyrantisterror, and I think it’s such fertile ground to explore. godzilla’s flirted with the idea before in both its netflix animes, but this is them really committing to it. it makes my worldbuilding and specbio freak heart happy. we even got to see more hellhawks! I love those guys.
Tumblr media
lookit that face
okay this is going pretty long, but anyhoo, I liked the character stuff too. kong was as lovable as always, you really feel for the big lug. even though he’s a living god the size of a mountain, there’s a real vulnerability to him. he’s just a sad, lonely guy who wants purpose and belonging.
he and suko had some kind of fast, but still very nice bonding. the human side was fun too, they fixed a lot about what I didn’t like from the last movie. jia had more of an arc going instead of just being “the one kong talks to”, bernie was a lot more enjoyable since they cut out the weird conspiracy theorist stuff, trapper was a fun guy. it was nice just seeing someone who loves monsters and weird nature stuff.
skar king surprised me with how personal of a threat he is, they really let him feel like a horrid, nasty piece of work. he’s more than just a big evil overlord, he’s a bullying control freak who wants everything his way, and it makes his wretchedness more tangible in a way.
shimo didn’t get all that much, but I love shimo. I love her, and I can barely even tell why, there’s just some kind of Vibe to her I resonate with. I think it’s how mythical she feels. the oldest of a line of gods, a great being of ice, controlled by a wicked devil….in fact it all felt very mythic. I appreciate that, I love it when kaiju works play out like weird mythological epics.
probably the most tangible complaint I can think of right now is that the godzilla stuff was pretty underwritten. it honestly felt like he was just….doing video game sidequests or something. like, it didn’t have Impact up until the very end when he finally meets kong and SPOILERS SPOILERS. and it feels a shame to kill scylla and tiamat off this early, I liked those two as unpredictable wildcards. with rodan and the others still mia, and two titans unceremoniously dead, it’s starting to feel like the monsterverse is sorta….flattening itself? now that kongs arc is done, I think we need to get back to a godzilla solo or two, flesh things back out a bit. but that’s for future peter to talk about, today we’re leaving things off on a high note. fun characters, dynamic locales, some great monster brawling, this one was a good’un!
godzilla cast monkeys into hell for their sins

Terochilus
Tumblr media
Image accessed from the Ultraman Wiki here
[Terochilus is a monster that makes a big impression in Return of Ultraman (being the star of a two-part episode), but with very little impact on the franchise outside of it. Which is a shame. It feels like Ultraman's Rodan the way that Arstron feels like its Godzilla. It has a weirder power set than Rodan, though, with its toxic webbing and shooting lasers from its nose. It kind of reminds me of The Giant Claw, in the sense of being a superficially simple flying kaiju that is totally bizarre on closer inspection, and I designed its stats intentionally to be a counterpart to my cacagnea.
In the show, its webs emit toxic gas on exposure to automobile exhaust, making Terochilus another pollution-themed kaiju. Since cars don't exist in Pathfinder, I changed the trigger to the webs getting extra dangerous to fire, which is the typical adventurer solution to webbing. That, and it makes the Terochilus' lairing in volcanoes synergistic, and very dangerous.
Also, I can't prove it, but I suspect that Terochilus' pterosaur with feathers look inspired the winged fakeosaur that came in the same set as the ones that inspired the rust monster and bulette]
Terochilus
CR 19 LN Magical Beast
This creature resembles a strange cross between bird and pterosaur. It walks on two elephantine legs, and has membranous wings growing like a cape from its human-like arms. It has a head and neck covered with feathers, and a long straight bill.
A terochilus is a bestial, vaguely avian predator, something like a roc writ even larger. They are found lairing on volcanic islands and are extremely territorial—a terochilus patrols the water near the island for whales, large fish and the occasional sea monster to eat, and drives away anything else entering its hunting grounds. This territoriality extends to their volcanic lairs as well. A terochilus usually lives near the caldera and lines its nest with thick ashy webbing. This webbing is flammable, but burning it produces a highly potent toxic gas that causes immediate unconsciousness followed by systematic organ failure. The terochiluses are immune to these noxious fumes, and encourage periodic fires to burn the webbing and fumigate their lairs.
Terochiluses usually do not see creatures of human size and shape as prey. The danger comes from their territorial instinct—they attack boats that steer too close to their hunting grounds. If forced from their lairs by a stronger monster, they may settle closer to inhabited areas and wreak havoc enforcing their new territorial boundaries. In combat, a terochilus usually opens by spraying opponents with webbing, and then closing to melee with entangled enemies. A terochilus possesses a powerful breath weapon, which manifests as beams of deadly force fired from its nostrils. This breath weapon does not recharge quickly, and most terochiluses use it as a weapon of last resort only.

Kaiju Week in Review (October 15-21, 2023)
Tumblr media
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1 is metahuman-heavy, establishing how the Titans of the Monsterverse found themselves on the same Earth as DC's finest and ending with Superman flying off to face Godzilla. It's early days, but the conveniently deserted Skull Island base the Legion of Doom storms into makes me pessimistic that any of the Monsterverse's human characters will show up. Rodan is also absent from the Titan line-up, despite appearing via flashback in the short Godzilla: Fight or Flight comic included in the Monsterverse Omnibus earlier this year. (Toho must be overcharging for Godzilla's supporting cast again.) It should be fun watching D-listers like Behemoth, Scylla, and Camazotz tangle with some of the world's most famous superheroes though.
Sales data for DC comics is effectively unavailable now, but anecdotally this one is doing gangbusters. The downside of snagging it now over waiting for the trade paperback is that DC disperses ads throughout the comic, instead of just at the end like IDW.
Tumblr media
Toho announced a ton of U.S. Godzilla merch launching in the U.S. on November 3. Your mileage will vary, but the most interesting baubles to me are the Godzilla Minus One promo cards from UVS Games (to be sold on TCGplayer.com) and the trading cards from Surreal Entertainment (to be sold at Five Below). Very few Godzilla trading cards have been produced in either Japan or the U.S. since 2006, and most of those have been cross-promotions with Magic: The Gathering and Battle Spirits. I have a small collection of random cards from older sets (a couple of them signed), and it'll be cool to expand it a little.
Tumblr media
Toho's Godzilla Day announcement also included some news on Godzilla Minus One's U.S. release, which I thought deserved its own section. Tickets go on sale November 3rd—including for "special Early Access Fan Event Screenings on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in IMAX and large format theaters across the country." So Toho International has outmaneuvered Beyoncé in the competition for IMAX screens, if only for one night.
In other Minus One news, a couple new TV spots are out (and translated by the GODZILLA OFFICIAL by TOHO YouTube channel). One shows off a new Godzilla ability, if you're wary of spoilers. Its world premiere was held beneath the Godzilla Head in Shinjuku on October 18, where the incredible Godzilla Attack Truck also debuted.
Tumblr media
IDW's Godzilla Valentine's Day Special, due January 31, dares to ask, "What if the old 'kill the monster or study the monster' argument was foreplay?" Zoe Tunnell, who I suspect is a Godzilla 2000 fan, writes, and Dani Pendergast illustrates. I'd like to thank them both for making a comic specifically for me. The logline:
Is there anything as romantic as seeing the world together? Hopping from country to country to take in the sights and splendor in the fleeting seconds before Godzilla smashes the skyline? Truly, there's nothing like the thrill of an international game of cat and mouse between an intrepid amateur kaiju researcher and a global kaiju-response lieutenant. But when you're up against Godzilla, it's hard to have a bigger "CRUSH."
youtube
SRS Cinema has picked up War of the Ninja Monsters: Jaron vs. Goura, the latest no-budget spectacular from Shinpei Hayashiya. The two monsters are basically Godzilla and Gamera, one-upping Giant Monsters Appear in Tokyo, which never showed its Godzilla and Gamera expies outside of the poster. Hopefully it'll be less headache-inducing than God Raiga vs. King Ohga: War of the Monsters. SRS is aiming to release it on Blu-ray and VHS in early 2024, with a DVD to follow later in the year.
Tumblr media
Hoshi 35, Megumi Odaka's return to live-action film, opened in Japan on October 21. A new trailer is out too. SRS Cinemas has an existing relationship with production company 3Y, which previously made The Great Buddha Arrival and Nezura 1964, so I'd expect them to license this one too.
youtube
This Netflix ad for an online convention of sorts includes the first snippets of footage from Ultraman Rising, the Tsuburaya/ILM animated film it's distributing next year. The animation is miles above the Netflix Ultraman anime, that's for sure.

@tosho89 i got somethin' for ya
All the other kaiju are heading towards refuge for xyz reason while Goji is going the opposite direction to deal with the problem/be ornery? Anguirus overslept and was left behind by the herds when he comes across Godzilla and decides to just. Not leave him alone. Rodan is under the thrall of Ghidorah and is attacking an Iwi settlement with the other daiju. Jia’s mother jumps off a waterfall and plunges into the depths before any of the flying daiju can catch her.
(Meanwhile, Kong is traveling to look for his people, having been raised by the Iwi after his parents’ passing. When he returns he finds his old home destroyed and no survivors. He goes on a quest for vengeance against the kaiju who slaughtered his second family. He thinks it's Godzilla because those are the tracks he finds.)
Goji wants to leave the human child, humans are nothing but trouble and he can create enough of that on his own while Anguirus wants to return it to the nearby human settlement. When they arrive they find it freshly burned down. That’s when they encounter Rodan, who was tasked by Ghidorah to find the child and bring it to him, alive.
(Rodan: *skreeeeeeeeeek*
Godzilla: -glowing blue- *skreeeeeeeeoooooooooonk*
Rodan: -rethinking his life choices- um. That pink thing belongs to me
Anguirus: actually that pink thing belongs to us!
Rodan: i see! Can’t have children of your own so you decided to adopt)
Cue Epic Roadtrip Montage as they travel across the world to reunite the human baby with other humans, not realizing that Ghidorah is systematically destroying them so that humans can’t come to the aid of whichever kaiju is king. (wow much worldbuilding) ((the King is ofc Goji who doesn’t want to be king and is avoiding his responsibilities)).
Rodan is ofc leading them to Ghidorah and his merry band of psychopaths while Anguirus is having fun playing with Jia. (i want to say that Goji names her and i want to make it angsty hmmm) Along the way they run into another human child, this one older and mostly able to fend for herself. (Maddie ran away from her mother bc she’s helping Ghidorah and Maddie needs to find the King of the Monsters in order to save the world. Goji is very vehement that there is no King) Want to say shortly after this Kong shows up?????
Massive fight between him and Goji (both are the last of their kind, Goji being old enough to remember the Titan war while Kong was told about it by the Iwi), but eventually the others manage to break it up and the truth comes out that Goji Didn’t Do It. Kong learns that one survived (maybe change it a bit so that Kong was the one that hid her? He was there during the fight and was lured away/knocked out for a while and woke up to everyone slaughtered and his favorite missing).
Kong backs Rodan up about there being another human settlement through the mountains, Maddie claims to have been there (this girl will get someone to fight Ghidorah, and she’s now seen Goji go at it. If she has to trick them into it she will.)
btw the kaiju are still like. what they look like in the monsterverse but are closer to human sized. average human is around 6ft/2 meters tall so Goji is more like 13 ft/4 meters tall (i know that's not a perfect convertion i'm rounding ok)
and i'm seeing this as kinda a mix between like. feudal japan/europe for the humans timeframe wise, but kinda steam/solarpunk-y. maybe some minor magic?????? anyways there are titans and humans but it's not set in our world

Titan History: Rodan
Welcome once again to Monarch: After Dark, the digital gateway between you and the organisation dedicated to navigating and understanding this troubled new world we live in.
Before we begin, we would like to take a moment to thank you all once again for your engagement with this platform. Just today, Monarch: After Dark has surpassed 50 followers, a great feat in our goal to help the public learn more about and understand the world of the Titans and beyond. We here on the After Dark team appreciate each and every person who interacts with the blog, and hope to see more of you join as we continue this journey together.
To mark the occasion, we will be making an earlier-than-scheduled return to our "Titan History" series with a Titan who has become something of a popular tourist attraction in recent years; the winged demon born of fire, Rodan.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: The USS Argo approaching Rodan as he rises from the Isla de Mara volcano, circa. 2019)
Monarch Database File: Rodan
Monarch Designation: Titanus Rodan
Height: 154 feet
Weight: 39,043 tons
Wingspan: 871 feet
Nature: Bio-Volcanic
Behavioural Classification: Destroyer
-----
The largest currently known case of "magmafauna" (a term coined by Monarch for superspecies biologically adapted to volcanic environments), Rodan is an impressively intimidating pterosaur-like Titan perfectly adapted to his resting place within the volcano of Isla de Mara. It is speculated by some within Monarch that Rodan's parents had nested within the volcano long ago, Rodan himself seems biologically molded for his home.
Rodan appears to almost be made of volcanic rock, cooled magma coating his wings. Red cracks glow through his wings during flight, giving the impression that the Titan oozes lava as he soars through the air. Due to his volcanic nature, Rodan does not "bleed" as organisms traditionally, as an injury sustained from Mothra's stinger in 2019 only resulted in magma coming out. Truly, Rodan seems to be a living volcano.
His range of abilities similarly match the destructive potential of volcanoes. Capable of flying at supersonic speeds, Rodan need only fly over a city to destroy it, or he can create a powerful sonic thunderclap capable of dispatching several fighter jets with a single strike. His razor-sharp talons and beak aid in dealing with other Titans up-close, and his internal tempearatures can reach such heights that they can burn his opponents if he gets close enough. According to one account, Rodan can cause volcanoes to erupt simply by flying past them.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Rodan battling Monster Zero within the latter's storm beyond Isla de Mara, circa. 2019)
While Rodan's existence was known to Monarch as early as 1973, the Titan itself would not be discovered by the organisation until 1991. Under the guise of "environmental research" (a tried-and-tested excuse), Monarch quarantined the volcano of Isla de Mara. As the years went on, the quarantine zone became a fully-fledged Monarch facility, forced to operate with aerial satellites as the volcano's temperatures rendered standard Monarch equipment impossible to use.
In 2019, following the awakening of Monster Zero in Antarctica, former Monarch member-turned eco-terrorist Emma Russell used the ORCA sonar device to awaken Rodan, despite Monarch forces still attempting to evacuate the population of Isla de Mara below. The civilians watched with silent horror as Rodan rose from the volcano, before running screaming as the Titan took notice.
In an effort to divert Rodan's attention, Monarch's command ship USS Argo and its fighter escort Gold Squadron fired on Rodan to draw his ire and lead him to a massive storm generated by Monster Zero, who was headed to the volcano itself in response to Rodan's calls. Rodan took flight, still causing massive damage to the city, before engaging Gold Squadron in a dogfight as the Argo led him toward the larger Titan.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Rodan emerging from the clouds to engage Monarch forces in the sky, circa. 2019)
As Rodan made short work of the Gold Squadron, including one documented instance of the Titan "smirking" before using a barrel roll to finish off the remaining jets, both he and the Argo arrived within Monster Zero's storm. The two Titans clashed almost immediately, Rodan holding his own for a while until Monster Zero shot him out of the sky.
Rodan recovered from the attack quickly enough to evade the Oxygen Destroyer's deployment on Godzilla and Monster Zero, and quickly returned to his volcanic home in order to bow before Monster Zero, which recently staked its claim as the Alpha Titan following Godzilla's supposed demise. During the multiple Titan attacks provoked by Monster Zero, Rodan was reportedly responsible for setting off the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean.
Working directly alongside Monster Zero, almost like its personal guard, Rodan fought off military and Monarch forces in Washington, DC. He later turned toward Boston when the ORCA was activated, arriving just in time to intercept Mothra when both she and Godzilla were gaining an advantage over Monster Zero.
Rodan kept Mothra oocupied, ramming her into buildings and using his lethal temperatures to burn her wings to weaken her. Going in for a final attack, Rodan was met by Mothra's stinger, impaling him through his shoulder and incapacitating him for the remainder of the battle.
Due to his volcanic nature, Rodan was able to survive through the thermonuclear pulses given off by Godzilla when he entered a superheated state, and managed to recover to fly off presumably before a thermonuclear explosion consumed Boston and destroyed Monster Zero's body.
Tumblr media
(Pictured above: Rodan roaring at Godzilla, moments before accepting him as the new Alpha, circa. 2019)
Rodan was the final Titan to surround Godzilla in Boston following Monster Zero's demise, still bearing the injury sustained from Mothra. He roared up at Godzilla but was met with a glare, moments after which he bowed down before Godzilla, the first Titan to do so, accepting Godzilla as the true king of the Titans.
Following the Monster Zero crisis, Rodan took refuge in Fiji, where he established a new nest for himself. His presence led to a spike in tourism from people wanting to glimpse the Titan.
To date, Rodan remains dormant in Fiji, and has had no involvement in any of the Titan crises since the Monster Zero crisis.
-----
And that's all she wrote for Rodan! The Titan's re-emergence has been both hotly anticipated and dreaded by the public since his return to dormancy, with many wanting to see the Titan in action once more...presumably because they are far away from wherever he is and thus unlikely to be blown into another country by his supersonic winds. We here on the After Dark team, would indeed want to gleam more data from Rodan, though preferrably from a safe and comfortable distance.
Until next time,
Monarch: After Dark

To any of the Godzilla fans reading this. Do you remember Invasion of Astro Monster/Godzilla vs Monster Zero when Godzilla and Rodan are pretty much unleashed on Planet X?
I just thought about something as I am watching the battle between them and Ghidorah. While they weren't sleeping. Or...they were in a sense, but when you really think about it. But also, keep in mind, I haven't seen the movie in a long time. Imagine how they were thinking when they were resting. And all of a sudden, they are on a different planet and the next thing they see is King Ghidorah.
Imagine their thought process. But I like to think of it like this.
"WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE?! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?! WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON?!"
Tumblr media
And here you have Godzilla being pushed down by a flying Ghidorah as he genuinely wonders what the fuck is going on before trying to fight.
"Look gentlemen. We are watching an historical battle." Dude, you took two sleeping Kaiju, set them on your planet, and they have no idea what the fuck is going on?
