Today I was only able to post three pages of my fanfic, I was having those moods of doing nothing, but I will continue making the other pages, and also don't forget to make your donations to help the citizens of Rio Grande do Sul so that they have food and clothing, because their situation is very serious.

London’s biggest screening party for the Eurovision Song Contest finals has been canceled, the venue Rio Cinema and organizer Eurovision Party London have said. “Following discussion with the organizers of Eurovision Party London, we have collectively decided not to screen the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest this year while Israel remains in the competition,” the Rio Cinema said in a statement on X. “The Eurovision Party London has been a beloved partner of The Rio Cinema for many years, and we will continue to work with them in the future. We firmly believe that the Eurovision Song Contest has the power to bring people together across the world, and when its core values of inclusivity, equality and universality are upheld, it can be a genuine force for good. With its own slogan in mind, we hope that we can all be United By Music again soon. We will continue to organize fundraising events for the charities we support, including Doctors Without Borders and Medical Aid for Palestine.”

Mexican-American professor guides next generation of STEM professionals
Tumblr media
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's Dr. Cristina Villalobos, the director of the Center of Excellence in STEM Education, stands outside the science building on Thursday Sept., 14, 2023 in Edinburg, Texas
Cristina Villalobos’ life is a mathematical statement: to get an answer you have to follow necessary steps, but her equation is far from over and she does it all while guiding Hispanic students in their own equations of life.
Villalobos is a Myles and Slyvia Aaronson endowed professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the founding director of the Center of Excellence in STEM.
The renowned mathematics professor has made it her life’s ambition to push students, especially Hispanics and other minorities, into pursuing bachelors, masters and PhDs in STEM fields.
“When I go to meetings across the nation, one of the number one things is increasing the number of minorities getting PhDs in STEM fields," Villalobos said. “It’s exciting to prepare these students, provide them with opportunities … and tell them you can make an impact.”
The Donna native and first generation Mexican-American college graduate started from humble beginnings. Both of her parents are from Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Villalobos said education was a top priority in her household.
Always having a strong interest in mathematics, Villalobos took part in the TexPREP program at legacy institution Pan American University, which sparked her decision to major in mathematics at The University of Texas at Austin. She would then get her master’s and doctoral degrees in computational and applied mathematics from Rice University.
“So when I came here to UT Pan American hoping that, you know, like any faculty you want to make an impact on students’ lives and especially since we are an Hispanic Serving Institution,” Villalobos said. “We’ve got so much potential here of students who we can develop into leaders.”
Villalobos has helped send off students to get PhDs in math, with many other students already working at Chevron, NASA or being tenure track faculty at other universities.
“So, that’s really exciting to see them making an impact and increasing the number of Latinos getting STEM degrees. … you want to prepare students and you want to provide them with opportunities,” she said. “Because many times students may not know that there are these opportunities, but if you provide them with opportunities, open up the doors, they’re wanting to do it, and they’re willing to meet those expectations and go above that.”
That ambition to ignite and guide the next generation of mathematicians helped establish the Center of Excellence in STEM education.
It is the only one at a Hispanic Serving Institution, or HSI.
The center focuses on strengthening academic STEM programs, facilitating professional development in faculty and students, and increasing the number of STEM graduates particularly from underrepresented groups. By giving workshops on how to prepare research posters, applying to summer research programs and more, Villalobos wanted to give students that information and support that she noticed the university lacked.
Tumblr media
The center also focuses on K-12 outreach with over 16,000 students each year being exposed to STEM education through on-campus visits. Villalobos said through hands-on experience students are taught STEM skills but most importantly are opened to the world of exploring and being curious.
“Maybe that’s an avenue that they want to explore more as they’re progressing through middle school and high school and so we want to be that,” she said. “And hopefully, you know, we’ll have the next up and coming scientists getting the bachelor’s degree and, you know, on to a PhD and maybe even a Nobel Prize, so that’s really exciting.”
Villalobos’ dedication to the next generation of STEM students has immeasurable influence on Hispanics and other minorities in the STEM field and that influence has not gone unnoticed.
In 2013, she received the Distinguished Undergraduate Institution Mentor Award from the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos & Hispanics and Native Americans in Science. In 2016, she received the Outstanding Latina Faculty Service and Teaching Award from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education Service.
In 2019, Villalobos received the Richard A. Tapia Achievement Award for Scientific Scholarship, Civic Science and Diversifying Computing.
The award that tops it off is the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, which she received in 2020.
“I feel like there’s still a lot more to do,” Villalobos said. “I don’t see my job as resting anytime soon. I just want to push on and get more students to finish their bachelor’s degree and become leaders.”
And given that UTRGV is an HSI, there’s enormous potential to make a national impact.
“And I tell students, ‘You gotta be at the table.’ You know, making decisions with others who may not know the Latino population,” she said. “But you do. Because you grew up in this area. You know the needs of our community, so that’s very important.”

There are four files per career (eg. AdultCareer_AnimalCare, AdultCareer_AnimalCare_Conditions, AdultCareer_AnimalCare_LTW and TeenElderCareer_AnimalCare).
All four files are required and can just be put straight into your downloads folder.
You will notice some of the above career levels do not match the original careers. Some of the levels are already represented in other careers in the game, so I decided to swap some around and include some new jobs.
These files have new GUID numbers, so they should not conflict with other downloads, even the original versions of these careers.
The Lifetime Wants are also compatible with @lamare-sims 50 New Lifetime Wants for Sims 2: https://modthesims.info/download.php?t=669675
I'd like to thank the following members of our community for their assistance in these updates:
@sims2idea-lientebollemeis2i for creating the converted careers to begin with and providing their permission to share my amendments. Their original careers can be found here: https://s2idownloads.blogspot.com/search/label/SFS%20-%201t2%20Maxis%27%20Careers

@sharlasims for her assistance and support with creating the chance cards.
@teaaddictyt For her Photoshop skills and support with converting the career icons.
@episims for their assistance troubleshooting the career outfits.
@rio-sims & @palominocorn for creating a tutorial on how to create Lifetime Wants.
I hope you enjoy my version of these careers and please do not hesitate to contact me if you run into any trouble. 06/07/2023 - EDIT: Thank you to @lamare-sims who found some errors in the files. I have fixed the LTW and Conditions files to reflect some correct instance numbers and I have reuploaded the zip files to include up the amended files. Please replace these two files for each career if you have already downloaded it. 05/08/2023 - UPDATE: @bothersomecryptid has touched up the icons and been kind enough to share them! They made them with to work better with the Clean UI. You just need to replace the images in the career file through SimPE. Submerged by flooding, Porto Alegre realizes it was unprepared: 'Everything has to be rebuilt'
Tumblr media
Three weeks after being hit by one of the worst climate disasters in its history, which left at least 157 people dead, 88 missing and forced the evacuation of 540,000, the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul is still partly submerged.
After slipping on her rubber boots, Darcilla Melo Da Silva, 58, took a deep breath before she stepped through the metal gates of her house, guided by her husband, Admar, 68. The scene she had so feared to see for the past 12 days appeared before her eyes. The vegetable garden where she had planted cabbage and herbs to alleviate her severe health problems was buried under a layer of mud. The remains of a white hen lay among the tangled planks, next to her new washing machine, which had been swept into the garden by the current and had ended up crushed under a tree trunk.
The interior of her house, which took her 40 years to furnish, was even more desolate. A smell of rot was pervasive. Without any electricity, Da Silva had to discover the extent of the damage by the light from her husband's smartphone: holes in the roof, raised floor, overturned armchairs... "Everything has to be rebuilt," said the grandmother barely able to breathe.
The retired couple, who lived in the Cidade Baixa district in the west of Porto Alegre, were among the 540,188 people who were forced to evacuate their homes in early May when floodwaters engulfed two-thirds of the towns in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, a hilly area on the border with Argentina and Uruguay with a population of some 11 million.
Since April 27, torrential rains have battered the region, raising the level of the Guaiba, a body of water – considered as much a river, lake or estuary – that borders the Porto Alegre metropolitan area, by several meters. On May 6, the day Darcilla Melo Da Silva and Admar evacuated their home, the water level reached 5.3 meters: the most severe flooding since 1941, when the Guaiba had risen to a height of 4.76 meters.
"This extreme event is the result of global warming" aggravated by the El Niño phenomenon, said Francisco Aquino, climatologist and head of the geography department at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. As temperatures rise, "we expect them to become more frequent and intense."

"You hurted yourself. Again."
"I guess I should say: I am deeply sorry."
"Do not act so reckless, Alfred."
"—Promise. And you should take a rest, you look tired."
"I am fine. Do not worry about me."
Tumblr media
I have MANY pending books to read, whether diaries, reports, story books, Brazilian Pracinhas and Nurses and much more.  But to save time, I decided to just read a few quick articles to prepare this post.
All pointed here is in a historical view.
Brazil was officially the only South American country to send troops to the conflict under its flag.
Historically, Brazil's actions prevailed in Italy.  It was where Brazil sent its troops, and its participation in the war was delayed as Brazil wanted to maintain its relations with both sides and remain neutral throughout the conflict.  After German and Italian attacks suffered by Brazilian ships, Brazil gave up its neutrality, siding with the Allies.
American military bases were built in the Northeast region of Brazil and Brazilian troops received American training.
"In 1939, with the beginning of the Second World War, Brazil remained neutral, in continuation of President Getúlio Vargas' policy of not defining itself by any of the great powers, only trying to take advantage of the advantages offered by them. Such "pragmatism " was interrupted at the beginning of 1942, when the United States and the Brazilian government agreed to transfer air bases on the island of Fernando de Noronha and along the north-northeast Brazilian coast to receive American military bases (if negotiations had not result, with Vargas and the military insisting on maintaining neutrality, the US had plans to invade the Brazilian northeast, codenamed Plan Rubber).”  (WIKIPEDIA)
"Natal, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in northeastern Brazil, has a very important strategic global geographic position. This fact made the city host the two main American military bases during the Second World War: the Naval Base and Parnamirim Field – at the time it was the largest US Air Force base on foreign territory.”  (WIKIPEDIA)
// Getúlio Vargas flirted with the Fascist ideology even tho, he went to ALLIES' side. 💀
HCs: (don't take them too seriously)
⚠️ Remembering the following content: we are still talking about Hetalia, so my HCs and lore are not absolute truth, but my perception of my oc's participation during the conflict.  Even though it has a historical basis behind it.  And also, this is historical fiction (ofc, it's hetalia).  WWII is an extremely sensitive topic to many. I ask for caution, I will be careful with what I have to say.
— Alfred used his charm and charisma to make Mayara fight alongside him (Good Neighbor Policy). What worked and they formed an alliance based on a mutual exchange of interests.
— Mayara had developed a strange feeling that intensified for Alfred (something between admiration and wanting to be like him, a complex feeling, which perhaps was confused with platonic love and which sought certain privileges in that alliance), even if she was reluctant to give end her neutral stance towards the conflict (something similar to what happened in WWI).  She would later do this after torpedoing of vessels by German and Italian submarines, retaliation due to Brazil's accession to the Atlantic Charter;  thus, she broke ties with the AXIS and declared war on Italy and Germany.
— In my universe, Mayara also served as a nurse, and spent most of her time with Alfred, often tending to his wounds.  Sometimes just chitchatting together or learning about militarism and things like that. He trained her. He was the one who supported her.
— I changed my conception of another topic, which was May's direct participation on the battlefield.  I think that Mayara, in addition to serving as a nurse, also fought on the front line when necessary (due to the fact that she was the representative of Brazil) and needed to be on the front line.  In my former HC she didn't go to the front. (I disagree with the 2021 me xd).
—  I don't believe that Alfred reciprocated any kind of feelings for May. She was an important piece for him, and so he courted her, to secure a new ally.  It was a benefits relationship.
— Besides Alfred.  There were FEW times where dialogues with England took place, this was due to the participation of Anglo-Brazilians on the English side (if I'm not wrong, in the area of aviation, but I need to delve deeper into the topic).  An almost tiny interaction compared to the prevalence of Alfred's actions, which was immensely greater and also generated impacts.
PS: I don't ship BrAme/AmeBra, they are just friends.  However, Mayara, as I said, had strange feelings for him at some moments in history (I was reading an article about diplomacy 🇧🇷-🇺🇸, I realized that Brazil had a greater interest in getting closer to the USA for economic and regional power, that is, an admiration that aimed for benefits/just as the US aimed for strategic support/Mayara would support Alfred in anything, as she thought she would get support in return).
I used the word "courtship" as it was stated in this old History book (which I no longer have).  Alfred... used his charm against May. Lol.

Evidence of a strange obsession with Alfred:

When Charlotte starts mumbling,Miles always implodes bc his daughter is too cute and pure for this world, Charlotte loves to see her dad drawing. he also does her hair, and when people ask: "Damn girl who does your hair?" and she says: "Oh! It's Mi papá! :)". He calls her "Mi pequena araña" (My little spider in spanish).
Gwen:She was insecure abt the pregnancy, but in a time she started to see that she was waiting one of the most important person in her life. Gwen is really caring with Charlotte, she always knows what Charlotte wants and gives all the love her daughter deserves. Gwen calls her "Char-Char" or "'lotte".
Hobie:He was really caring with Mayday in ATSV, so take care of another spider-kid wouldn't be a problem to him. Hobie was the one who stayed most of the time next to Gwen when she was pregnant of Charlotte and he was the first one to know that Gwen was going to have a baby with Miles.Hobie gave Charlotte a green frog onesie and she started wearing that onesie like a pajama.
Pavitr:He's the protective uncle, always help Charlotte and gives so many gifts to her. He would defintely buy tons of baby clothes and toys for Charlotte when Gwen was still pregnant of her. Pav calls Charlotte "Grahan" (Eclipse in hindi),Pavitr loves to babysit her every time he has a chance.
Peter B. and Mayday: He often sees Charlotte, but when he sees,he's really happy abt his niece,he gave most of Mayday's old plushies to her. Mayday plays hide 'n' seek with Charlotte sometimes, even that Mayday is really older than Charlotte, they get along pretty well. Mayday does friend bracelets to Charlotte
Noir,Ham and Peni: They often sees her, they love their niece still. Noir can't carry Charlotte bc he's kinda clumsy and Ham neither bc Charlotte when sat is taller than him lol. Peni is the only of team B who can carry Charlotte on her arms.
Margo:Always plays with Charlotte using their tech-powers,they let her play those dress up flash games, that still exists on Byte's universe. They make jokes abt Charlotte looking so similar to them when they were younger.
Rio and Jeff: Charlotte passes her vacation with her abuelos, and they go really well with their grand-daughter. Rio would give a lot of candies to Charlotte even that she can't eat those. Jeff is the grandpa who has a joke to every situation.
George Stacy: Charlotte passes her vacations with her another grandpa too, George loves his grand-child very much. He bought a lots of things to her when he knew he was going to be a grandpa. He gave those plushies Gwen had on her room to Charlotte.
Plus:Miguel is dead in the future,so, he doesn't know nothing abt Miles and Gwen being married and having their daughter,Charlotte. Jessica is the current leader of the spider-society,but she stopped to have any interaction with the spider-anarchirts after BTSV.

hi guys shower thoughts in word form what's new 💀
why miles g is the perfect foil to miles — a long post
disclaimer: i obviously do NOT know what will happen in btsv. some of this devolves into external information like from the art book (or even just my own headcanons). i am also not an analyst. this is not a proper analysis by any means. also quite rambly so bare with me 😭
also i will be referring to 1610!miles as miles and 42!miles as miles g.
just so we're sure: a foil in literature is defined as "a character who is presented as a contrast to a second character so as to point to or show to advantage some aspect of the second character" (via britannica)
essentially one character exposes the flaw(s) of another character (usually by being the opposite of said character)
i talked about miles' attachment to the superficial goal of "being Spider-Man" in a separate post (which is long n kind of irrelevant so im not linking it here) but essentially the point i want to bring back is that 1610 miles is obsessed with the idea and IDENTITY of being New York's Spider-Man and being a hero and that is the complete opposite to miles g, who is arguably the PERFECT foil — it's literally a parallel version of himself
but first a bit of ramble about the start of the movie under the cut! (open)
you can see it in the way miles falls perfectly into the typical witty, effortless and loved hero in the way he fights at the start of the movie. when he's fighting the spot you're thrown into this false sense of security that everything's going to be okay and it's just another "villain of the week" because that's what you expect of Spider-Man. he has his usual quips and carefree interactions with the spot and we have no idea that he's about to take apart the entire multiverse
the spot as a character is one of my favourite villains EVER because he directly challenges this notion of what it means to be Spider-Man — you always expect the good guys to win and when they lose again and again to the spot, that's when everything we know, and MILES knows, falls apart. the spot is a brutal exposition of how futile "heroism" as a concept is to the spiderverse.
as a character miles so badly wants to be in the spider society in the first place because he thinks that's where it's at — that's where he can finally BE a real spiderman and fit in
so when all of his beliefs are challenged and he's forced to fight to SURVIVE rather than to win that's the turning point of his character. in the grand scheme of things to put it lightly this whole "spiderman" identity is bull
and also id like to point out that hobie's line of "im not a hero, cause calling your self a hero makes you a self-mythologising narcissistic autocrat" is SUCH a gut-punch when you realise this. my boy KNEW but miles had to realise it for himself obviously so he pissed off when he had nothing else to add. I LOVE HOBIE BRO—
in my other post i talked about how he attributes his security to his home universe, family and friends and then that changes to wanting to be a part the spider society (so security in his identity), but when he's kicked out, his main goals focus around his home universe again — he needs to save his dad
putting him in earth 42 is the final sort of way for the movie to say "look at yourself miles" because to him, he can't give up that want to be spiderman so easily. a part of him hopes that he can just go back home and be spiderman like normal, that's why he tells his "mom" (earth 42 rio) that he's spiderman even though that probably won't help him at all — he is still stagnant in his old ways
and thats where miles g comes in — picture his exact universe but where's miles is the "villain" (to him at least, he doesn't know that the prowler is actually a vigilante)
to give you the basics, miles g has NO super powers, he's a vigilante who has to HIDE from the public, he's not "friendly" — nothing like miles' picture of spiderman. again, he fights to do good, but also for survival — the sinister six are attacking HIS neighbourhood and HIS home so HE has to do something about it
of course that's not to say that they're completely different. miles g has all his cool gear and aesthetics for a reason. maybe deep down he wants to be like the superheroes that he sees in comics (assuming hes anything like 1610 miles) and/or he wants to live up to, or exceed his uncle in being the prowler
but it's far less superficial than just that. he's been forced into this more practical and REAL mindset about what it means to be a "hero" from the start — and now 1610 miles is too
miles g doesn't necessarily have a greater sense of duty. he doesn't concern himself with miles' universe because it's HIS — ("our dad—" "your dad.") and thats the reality check that miles needs, at least in this moment, that he's alone and that he needs to get the HELL out of there and save his dad — not the multiverse.
of course this might be a point of character development for miles g he's obviously not a perfect character and has his own trauma and backwards beliefs to overcome but he's in many ways a product of his environment
it re-emphasises to miles the importance of saving his dad — protecting what he has left because he has nothing else (his only sense of security anymore). the multiverse is this far away thing now and i think this could be explored as a spiteful rejection in btsv which he has to overcome but im obviously not sure
the real kicker is that in this universe aaron davis is alive and jefferson is dead. looking at this from a wider perspective, in my very convoluted opinion, on a surface level, JEFFERSON represents "the hero" and AARON represents "the villain". this is arguably why aaron "has to die" in earth 1610, because "good always prevails" (which is very clearly MESSED UP, which miles is coming to realise more and more)
okay now hear me out. in the SAME WAY miles represents "the hero" and miles g represents "the villain" — but we obviously know that it's more nuanced than that
and the respective fates of aaron and jeff clearly show to miles that it is NOT that simple. it's not a matter of "good over evil" because if that was the case his father wouldn't be dead.
and obviously thematically this ties into expectations of the future generation and overcoming archaic beliefs and failures of the past and hope in youth and blah blah blah (i actually love this theme it is just not talked about enough unfortunately but this video by elliot sang is a beautiful exploration of it)
miles g and aaron are NOT evil — they're just as much heroic, but not necessarily "heroes". again, that's exposing how superficial the notion of being "spiderman" and "a hero" really is
and this is why hobie is so right about labels and— (MUFFLED SCREAMING)
going back to the spider society when miles says "i thought we were supposed to be the good guys" — this idea of being a hero is really just a front for the spider society's lucrative and cult-like behaviour. you're doing it because it's your duty as a hero, you're letting people die because that's what's supposed to happen, because it's for the "greater good" (when it was never really about that in the first place but miguel and his "spider-cult" is a whole other topic)
by the end of the film we start to realise all of these things at once and that's what across the spiderverse does SO WELL in my opinion
so why is miles g the perfect foil to miles? to summarise, miles g encapsulates (at the very least on a surface level) the complete opposite of what it means to be the hero "Spider-Man". his entire universe is a parallel to earth 1610, and to miles, miles g exposes the flaws in miles' view about what heroism truly is.
neither of them are perfect characters, and we're yet to see much about miles g, but miles' development as a character and the way it's explored in such a self-realising way as well as thematically throughout all of across the spiderverse is something i will always love about the movie
im so excited to see if they'll team up as well!!!! so much potential
urrrrr thank you for coming to my ted talk ANYWAYS I LOVE HOBIE BROW— (THE CROWD BOOS) (SEVERAL TOMATOES ARE THROWN)
as always let me know your thoughts id SO love to hear them ^^ this was just a shower thought i was literally shampooing my hair and was like hold on a minute.... so there's definitely things to be added! take care n cya <3

[ Life reconstruction of Macrocollum itaquii by Márcio L. Castro. ]
"The missing link has just been found, bridging the gap between the earliest dinosaurs, which varied significantly in size from mere centimeters to a maximum of 3 meters, and more recent giants that could be more than twice the length of a bus and have so much appeal to the popular imagination. Macrocollum itaquii, which was discovered in the region of Agudo in the Rio Grande do Sul state of South Brazil and dates back 225 million years, is the most ancient dinosaur known to have structures referred to as air sacs. These bone cavities, which persist in present-day birds, enabled dinosaurs to capture more oxygen, keep their bodies cool, and withstand the harsh conditions of their era. They also helped some become giants: Tyrannosaurus rex and Brachiosaurus, for example. An article on the study that led to the discovery was published in the journal Anatomical Record. Two of its authors are researchers supported by FAPESP at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo state. “Air sacs made their bones less dense, allowing them to grow to more than 30 meters in length,” said Tito Aureliano, first author of the article. The study was conducted as part of his PhD research at the Institute of Geosciences (IG-UNICAMP). “M. itaquii was the largest dinosaur of its time, with a length of about 3 meters. A few million years before then, the largest dinosaurs were about 1 meter long. Air sacs certainly facilitated this increase in size,” Aureliano added."
