just learned what /r 196 is. basic non-fandom words like “kittens” and “writing” trend all the time, so believe me when i say i woke up, opened tumblr, and immediately accepted that the number 196 was trending because we all think it’s just a pretty neat number

I’m both nervous and excited that Redditors have begun to migrate here.

On one hand fandoms will have more content on a different style of topics (Reddit looks at lore and the actual events where Tumblr is all abt characters and headcannons) Tumblr is all abt the chaos

Also I’m so excited for their reactions to our Tumblr lore. Like they get to discover the SPACE POST, NON PIZZA LEFT BEEF, THE DESTIAL MEME (which hilariously is getting used for this event )

On the other hand I’m scared abt the Reddit users bringing negativity to the fandoms without using tags correctly

As someone who tried to use reddit and never really posted.. I just want to welcome the lovely folks from r/196 to Tumblr!

It's a very different site structurally but y'all fit the vibes very well. Have fun! And remember the block button is free and fun to use lol.

As I migrate and nest into Tumblr, I'm being helped here and there by my delightful roommates, who've been native Tumblrinas for years.

I find that, as I run wild in this unchecked... Thing? I'm finding treasures and mysteries and culture, none of which came through my reddit feed, even being subscribed to r/Tumblr. I enjoy the shit out of flat fuck Fridays, and hold the site in a healthy mixture of fear and respect, as one would a rare bird known to eat fingers that has chosen you as a friend.

Thanks for having me, folks, especially @luckyfirerabbit and @soft-tiefling. Weird stuff incoming. Gotta fit into the trash fire, after all.

r/196 is BACK!! GAY PEOPLE ARE REAL AGAIN!!

i never made a reddit account. i've tweeted maybe 20 times. i've had my tumblr account for 4 years, i've made at least 5000 posts, and i've been using it to some extent for probably closer to 10 years. so i haven't really given up anything in my day to day life because of reddit and twitter becoming less user friendly.

that said, this new influx of reddit and twitter users to tumblr is giving me a lot of hope :) it's hard to give up a community and a platform and a UI you're familiar with-- especially when coming to a new platform that has a very defined reputation and a pretty specific user demographic. i'm really, truly happy to see everybody joining and making friends and socializing and figuring out how much fun this site can be. i hope everybody who's new (or returning) to this site finds a community that they love and enjoy themselves on here.

side note! don't forget to customize your dash!! you can make it chronological, turn off suggested posts, reject tumblr live-- if you're sick of the algorithm dictating your media consumption, tumblr is pretty good for having more agency in it :) i hope everybody has fun making their blog and their dash everything they want it to be <3

Having your own personal blog is honestly quite a nice change of pace compared to Reddit. I could put a funny GIF of George Bush getting hit by a shoe on here and the worse case scenario is that no one even notices.

You put that on a big subreddit and you get your eyes gouged out and a heap of political discourse underneath your post.

I feel cheated. no one on Reddit told me that tumblr is a serotonin factory. Keep liking and reblogging my posts please thanks
