In retrospect, one of the understated things that I love about the Moonlight speech is when Lister leaves and Rimmer is just... sitting with it. When Lister steps out, it seems to take him a minute to let Lister's words sink in. He nods to himself and blinks intensely for a moment, as if he's refusing to show even an empty room that Lister's words resonated with him. Again, when he sits down, there's an emotion on his face that we never really see before; a concealing frown that attempts to hide his mix of confusion and suppressed emotions. He purses his lips to one side in a doubtful manner and gazes ahead. It's probably the most needed he's ever felt, and the only true reassurance he's ever had. There's no punchline, no taking it back, no pulling out the rug from underneath him (I'm looking at you, Terrorform). Lister just leaves without another word, forcing him to sit with those unusual feelings and make sense of them alone.
