"It is a great advantage to a President, and a major source of safety to the country, for him to know that he is not a great man. When a man begins to feel that he is the only one who can lead in this republic, he is guilty of treason to the spirit of our institutions."
-- Former President Calvin Coolidge, on the Presidency, "The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge," 1929.

"The Democratic Party: Hey, We're Not As Shitty As The GOP!"
It really shouldn't be a campaign policy. How do we vote for that Target guy instead?

Love this season Fig and Riz are really interacting one on one and being shown narratively as parallel characters. Both prioritize their friendships over their own personal wellness. Both so willing to support and not focus too hard on their own identities as people. And Sklonda and Sandra Lynn should get some coffee and chat.

Hey, yanno how Climate Change is a real thing that is tangibly, at this moment, affecting our world?
Well it turns out, the wealthy and their investment firms have been seeing the mounting evidence that oil companies have had for decades and are slowly starting to think more long-term about their portfolios in the face of rising sea levels, more extreme weather, and the myriad of ways climate crises are affecting...well. Everything. Maybe this means they invest more into sustainability, green energy, building more resilient infrastructure, or carbon offsets. Some of it, of course, is simple corporate greenwashing, but there are those that are taking this trend and packaging it into something called ESG (Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance).
Now some people would say this is predictable, even sensible. Just the good ol’ Free Market(tm) rationally responding to market forces and a changing world.
But those people would be fools! Insidious fools! For conservative sorcerers have come out with a new cursed phrase to explain this new market trend: Woke Investing.
What makes this investing “woke?” Well, much like how conservatives normally flounder when trying to define a word they stole from black people, “Woke Investing” essentially just means any kind of capital investment that they, the fossil fuel billionaire class and their sycophants, don’t personally profit from.
One of these aforementioned sycophants is Andy Puzder, conservative commentator, fellow at The Heritage Foundation, and former fast-food CEO. He calls this kind of so-called woke investing “socialism in sheep’s clothing,” further explaining in leaked audio of a closed-door meeting:
“My father's generation's challenge was the Nazis, who, by the way, were, of course, very proud socialists[citation fucking needed]. The challenge of my generation was the communists, who were, of course, very committed socialists. The challenge of your generation is ESG investing, and it's more insidious than communism or the Nazis.”(source)
You heard it here first, folks. Not investing as much in fossil fuels is more insidious than the Third Fucking Reich.
As usual, the Heritage Foundation is putting their petro-chemical donor’s money where their mouth is. Bills are being proposed to blacklist banks that don’t invest in key state industries, such as West Virginia coal or Texas oil. Fourteen states have already passed bills to restrict ESG-type investing, with Florida Governor Ron “Bullies Kids for Wearing Masks” Desantis leading the charge.
In other words, Climate Denial has reached such a point that so-called Free Market Conservatives who claim to hate big government are trying to make it illegal for banks, investment firms, and financial institutions to make any financial decisions that acknowledges Climate Change is real.

i think the internet could be greatly improved if we just assume that OP is always talking to someone who is not you. if the post is not personally applicable or relevant, cool, this isn't a conversation you're in. this is a strangers' conversation that you're eavesdropping on.

I think when q!Bad says that he wants to kill the president, or that he wants to overthrow q!Forever - he knows that President Forever and regular Forever are the same person. He knows.
When he says “I trust Forever, but not President Forever” what he means is “I trusted Forever when the power balance in our friendship was manageable and not ridiculously skewed to one side.”
What he means is “I don’t want to have to be worried about Forever throwing me in prison, and I liked my friendship with him better when I didn’t have to be concerned about that.”
What he means is “It was easier to trust a Forever without power, and I want to trust Forever again.”

I'm not a psychologist or a politician or anything approaching an expert about literally anything except a few specific video games but I feel like so many people wouldn't be agonizing over the moral implications of one (1) vote if we as the less-than-uppest-of-upper-crust had the ability to meaningfully affect change in ways other than 'spend money/do not spend money, vote for the red or blue tie'

The memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant are much more interesting when supplemented with other sources, because this guy is so modest and matter-of-fact that he completely forgets to tell you how awesome he is.
The chapter about his West Point education includes stories like, "I did well in math and was terrible in most of my other subjects", "I hoped I could leave the army and get a job as a math professor somewhere", and "My neighbor made fun of me when I wore my uniform in my hometown." Not a single word about the fact that he set a West Point equestrian high jump record that stood for twenty-five years! Or that the academy had a horse so wild that they were going to put it down until he chose it as his mount and tamed it. Or that he had been doing dangerous bareback horse-riding stunts since the age of five. There is an entire Wikipedia page about how amazing he was at handling horses, but you would never know based on how he writes about himself. You expect a guy to gloss over the bad stuff in his life (there's not a word about alcohol), but the way he glosses over his achievements is mind-boggling.

Why did John F. Kennedy have a tendency to awkwardly stick his hands into the pockets of his suit jacket? According to TIME Magazine on February 24, 1961, this was why:

I feel stuck in my head and I need to ask someone: what's gonna happen to us when biden's reelected? What can we do to stop the genocide? What can we do to get roe v wade back? How to we make things okay?
Answering the last question first — how do we make things okay? We get informed, and we get involved.
If you want to change how things work, first you have to understand why they work the way they do. I’m not saying you have to become an overnight expert, but you gotta know the basics. You have to know who *really* makes the decisions about the stuff you care about. And I’m not being snarky here, but there’s a very very very good chance that that person is not Biden.
(long-ish more in depth USA-specific thoughts under the cut)
Let’s look at the two specifics that you mention. Yes, the president may be commander in chief of the armed forces but that “just” (air quotes bc obviously that is hugely consequential power, but it’s not the only power at play) means he’s the guy who says yes or no, stay or go. A more effective tool to address the United State’s relationship to Israel? Money. You know who controls the federal money? Congress. You know which political body has elections twice as frequently as the president? Congress. Look into who your Senators and Representatives are, look into their voting records, look into their hiring choices, look into their public statements and appearances, look into the company the keep.
If you like what you find, let them know, and if you have the resources, donate money and/or volunteer your time to make sure they win reelection. If you do not like what you find, and you think they might be responsive to public pressure, let them know you didn’t like what you found. If you found it abhorrent or do not trust that they will adjust to their constituents expectations, figure out if they have a competitor, and if they don’t, make sure that someone steps up to the plate. That someone doesn’t have to be you, but while we live in an ostensible democracy, these people can lose their jobs if and when we vote them out.
Regarding Roe v Wade, this might be upsetting to hear but you need to get used to the idea that it’s not coming back, and if anything, things might get worse. If voting and the legal system is your jam, I can recommend researching the circuit and district judges that preside over your region. If organizing and direct action are more your thing, there’s probably a Nurse’s Union in your area that can point you in the right direction. If your school district has an elected body where you can run for a seat to make sure that kids in your area are getting appropriately scientific sexual health education, do that. If you feel brave enough to start actively having conversations about sexual health and reproductive rights among your daily/weekly social groups, and maybe even start a book club style study group to learn about the legal and medical aspects most relevant where you live, do that. Even on the most individual scale, if you can make it clearly known that you are a safe person for people to talk to about this stuff, that’s a great step in the right direction.
To wrap this up, I think I’ll just say that I think big picture, if Biden wins a second term, things will be fine. If anything, maybe his administration will be able to bolster the environmental wins in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) but at a basic level he will probably maintain the status quo and then after the four years are up, he’ll leave office.
Let’s please not pretend the same can be said about Trump.
But in the spirit of ending on a more hopeful note, if you do not want Kamala Harris to be the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party in 2028 (and/or if you want a third party other than the Democrats and the Republicans to stand a snowball’s chance in hell) the time to start organizing is now. We deserve better than the status quo, we can do this, let’s fuckin go 💪

In queer ships I just ALWAYS get attached more with the repressed ones who want to be loved SO BAD and love SO HARD but are so scared and often lash out. Like my fave pair of every queer ship on god.
1) HENRY from rwrb. Thats my son on god. My child whom i would die for. Biggest heart. Loves so god damn hard. Its so scared of not having his love returned. His mom failed him so bad for so long and he still loved her to pieces like thats crazy biggest heart ever.
2) CATRA. Like Catra could have killed Bow and Glimmer and im sO SORRY but i would have still supported my girl im SORRY ik i shouldnt but I genuinely loved her BAD. No one could ever make me hate her sorry
3) BAZ. Like Baz never did anything bad ever bc he is an angel baby but regardless he could hypothetically do anything ever and you best believe i will be there supporting him!!!!!
4) EDDIE from It. That character is my child like my other half y’all don’t understand that 40 year old repressed little gay is my absolute CHILD and i would kill for him. He constantly lashes out but tbh he is also the sweetest pie. He wants to be loved so bad pls i could make a thesis on how he only found peace through dying and never got to finish what he wanted to say to Richie. Stephen King i am in your walls i will avenge him.
Edit: 5) ALEC LIGHTWOOD IM SO SORRY I FORGOT ABOUT YOU MY KING. He was so scared to love and was so cold and once he had the option he loved so fiercely??? Like is crazy. Changed the world just for his love like insane.
Like queer characters that love so hard it hurts them and terrifies them and WANT to be loved so bad??? They have my entire heart!??
Also im not repressed and im genuinely so loved like im so blessed to say this i have great supporting, loving and caring parents. And multiple friends who support me and love me and care and whom i trust??? Like i have no idea why the repressed characters just call to me but you best believe they’ll be my favorite ones from any story
If y’all know any other stories with repressed little gays who are hurting and love v hard pls rec me stuff

Absolutely insane that the next American Presidential election is almost certainly going to be between a guy currently supporting a genocide and a guy who will state that the genocide wasn't genocidal enough.
