Friday. 5 sentence minimum.
---
Whenever he remembered this conversation, Maurice would blame the rich wine for his loose tongue. At the moment, however, it crossed his mind that if his daughter could face a near-mob without showing fear, he could sit across the Dark One and have a conversation with the creature who had stolen Belle's loyalty.
"I don't like you."
Rumpelstiltskin raised an eyebrow. Humor crossed his expression, though he gave the courtesy of not laughing in Maurice's face.
"I suppose it doesn't come as a surprise," he grumbled.
"Hardly." Rumpelstiltskin chuckled. "You might say the assassination attempts clued me in."
"I sent those men to collect my daughter." Grudgingly, he added, "At the time, I believed she'd welcome her freedom."
"She's made a deal with me," the Dark One said unapologetically. "As for the orders your knights carried, what Belle believes they were and what they told me is..." He gave a shrug, mimed a pinch between thumb and forefinger. "...just a tad different."
Maurice looked away.
"Oh, I don't blame you. Foolish things are done to protect a beloved child, I've found." At a wave of his hand, the bottle moved to refill Maurice's cup. "A toast to fools, will you? And don't worry, I'm not telling Belle anything she doesn't want to know."
Before he could stop himself, Maurice groaned. "That girl always wants to know."
That startled laughter out of the demon at his table.
Maurice blinked at how human he sounded.
"True enough," Rumpelstiltskin allowed. "It's one of her better qualities."
Maurice took a long swig from his cup, to give himself time to consider that simple statement. It sounded honest. No wonder his Belle stayed in the Dark Castle, when no suitor Maurice had scared up had ever come close to appreciating her appetite for knowledge.
In that moment, he decided he would always blame the wine for his next words:
"Belle likes you."
Rumpelstiltskin's odd eyes blinked rapidly, and his mouth thinned. Maurice didn't want to know what emotion hid behind that mask.
"And I do like your wine," he continued in a more jovial tone. "Is there more?
Yes, the wine would be at fault.
He didn't need to know anything else.
The End

Note
you sent me down the Sonic name rabbit hole and the misinformation is even more stupid then originally intended.
Archie Sonics Middle name being Maurice had only appeared twice in comic form, once as a definite joke and once as a dubious joke (hard to say if it was serious since it doubled as a throw back joke) but Maurice was kinda an inside joke for the most part and they even poked fun at it in one of the Sonic Prime adverts.
Olgilvie is where it gets stupid. Sonics 'first name' was never given in canon but was allegedly posted on Penders own website, saying that he intended it to be his first name but never actually applied it. I say allegedly because finding actual proof is basically impossible. There's no screenshots of the website, Penders never posted about it on social media and there doesn't appear to be any interviews with Penders saying so either. It is entirely possible that this was just a made up rumour/someones personal head canon posted on a mid 90s forum that spun out of control.
yeah i definitely think his middle name being maurice was just a joke at first and it was only mentioned by the characters themselves twice that i remember, but there were also multiple character profiles for sonic that mentioned his middle name being maurice and/or sonic not being his birth name, so it Was intended to be canon. but again the same cannot be said for olgilvie, i cant remember a single time the name was ever mentioned in the comic and other writers have said that it isnt considered canon
as far as penders himself talking about this goes, i actually did manage to find a couple tweets of his that mention it but theyre actually very recent and in response to someone asking about it, i still cant find the original source for this claim anywhere. but i do have some stuff to say about the tweets so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
part of the conversation is cut out because i didnt wanna post screenshots of some random persons tweets, but basically someone was asking where he originally confirmed this, where the inspiration for the name came from, and if anyone else used it. which as you can see he didnt really answer that first question. and he also says he DID use the name in one issue, but hes blatantly wrong here because issue 53 doesnt say sonics name is olgilvie, just that his birth name isnt sonic and his middle name is maurice. so hes definitely misremembering some details here
now im not saying this is actually what happened but wouldnt it be so funny if penders never intended for his name to be olgilvie specifically but someone on the internet just made it up and it became so widespread that penders himself even believed it and thats why no one not even him can provide the source for where this was originally stated

One Dress a Day Challenge
The Men of September
Love Me Tonight / Maurice Chevalier as Maurice Courtelin
This is the earliest movie I've ever seen with a suit-and-turtleneck combination. It is Maurice's everyday casual outfit for walking to work; later, he wears it to a fancy dress party at the castle, where the aristocratic crowd thinks he's just ever so exotic!
Note, on the back view, that the jacket has no vents (slits) in the back. This was common in the 1920s, as it created a smoother line. This movie is from 1932, but sticks to a more conservative style in that regard.

How is your Appendix?
youtube
🔅Good morning Paris…🔆
Here is something that can knock out any genuine movie lover. I am talking about the first part of this everlasting opening scene, which consists of a simple ascending rhythm made up of plain sounds and the corresponding jolly well-acted shots. This percussive prelude is then followed by a light-hearted witty song, performed by Maurice Chevalier, in the second part. And you should bear in mind that this film was made in 1932.

“A gurgle and a smile won this young playmate of Maurice Chevalier a role in the French star’s next picture and a $2,000 educational policy. The starlet is Leroy Weinbrenner, eight months old, who was selected for the part after 175 babies had been tested and more than 1,000 homeless and parentless youngsters Interviewed. The $2000 is in the form of an insurance policy that matures by the time he is old enough to attend high school.”

The visionary writer and director of Get Out, Us, and Nope, and founder of Monkeypaw Productions, curates this groundbreaking anthology of all-new stories of Black horror, exploring not only the terrors of the supernatural but the chilling reality of injustice that haunts our nation. A cop begins seeing huge, blinking eyes where the headlights of cars should be that tell him who to pull over. Two freedom riders take a bus ride that leaves them stranded on a lonely road in Alabama where several unsettling somethings await them. A young girl dives into the depths of the Earth in search of the demon that killed her parents. These are just a few of the worlds of Out There Screaming, Jordan Peele’s anthology of all-new horror stories by Black writers. Featuring an introduction by Peele and an all-star roster of beloved writers and new voices, Out There Screaming is a master class in horror, and—like his spine-chilling films—its stories prey on everything we think we know about our world... and redefine what it means to be afraid.

wait there's a theory behind it?????? I thought we all just looked at sonic and agreed he was trans. Based off vibes only, the tswag, the trans radar
well not everybody agrees with it i think most people including me just decided he was trans based on vibes alone
if you dont know what im talking about though the theory or headcanon or whatever you wanna call it goes like this: shadow and silver are boy hedgehogs with arms that are the same color as the rest of their body and they also have chest fur. amy is a girl hedgehog and has tan arms and no chest fur. sonic is a boy hedgehog with tan arms and no chest fur so hes trans
i dont think you really need evidence to prove that hes trans though like. just look at him. that hedgehogs tswag is off the charts

Propaganda
Miriam Hopkins (Design For Living, Trouble in Paradise)—miriam hopkins had great range as an actresses, truly a woman who could play a passionate outburst for either dramatic or comedic effect and sell the ever-loving hell out of it. she's wonderful in the witty and sophisticated comedies she made with ernst lubitsch, great examples of movies that could never have been made after the hays code; the frothy musical comedy the smiling lieutenant where she plays a naive princess who accidentally gets betrothed to maurice chevalier, the polyamory classic design for living where she gary cooper and hot vintage shadow king fredric march are a throuple, and the ineffably exquisite comedic masterpiece trouble in paradise in which she and hubert marshall are sexy jewel thieves trying to con sexy rich lady kay francis, but will emotional complications ensue???? watch to find out!!
Dorothy Dandridge (Carmen Jones, Porgy and Bess, Island in the Sun)— The first Black actress to ever be nominated for best actress, Dorothy Dandridge was a groundbreaking actress who deserved better. She started her career as a singer, being put in a song-and-dance duo with her sister by their stage mother, and singing in soundies (I highly recommend cow cow boogie, it's adorable), proto-music videos. She started appearing as a featured singer in films. Her star was on the rise and she soon became a star solo performer. She continued acting, but had limited options because she refused to do stereotypical roles. She finally landed a starring role in Bright Road in 1953, but it was the movie Carmen Jones that truly cemented her as a star and sex symbol. Not to sound cheesy, but she literally sizzles on screen. You can't help but understand how poor Harry Belafonte gets caught in her trap, just look at her. This is the role that got her that Oscar nom. She didn't win cause I mean #OscarsSoWhite, but she was a sensation and continued starring in films, despite troubles in her life (including a shitty director bf who fucked with her career and a traumatizing pregnancy/delivery). Outside of her filmwork, she was also an activist, fighting against racism. She left behind an amazing legacy, and continues to inspire many actresses to this day (including also very hot first (and only) black woman to win best actress, Halle Berry).
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

Miriam Hopkins:

64.media.tumblr.com
She is an incredibly charismatic and versatile actress who brings a certain captivating je ne sais quois to each and every one of her roles that makes her impossible to ignore. Her pre-code films were considered quite risqué, with her part in a thrupple in Design For Living, and some saucy scenes they had to cut from Jekyll and Hyde. She also had a strong career in early television, so good that this queen literally has TWO Hollywood Stars, TWO!! One for TV and one for Film
youtube
Also she is Gorgeous, capable of being the girl nextdoor and also a stunning blonde bombshell. She's not as well known as some golden-age Hollywood stars but she's really incredible and I recommend everyone watch her films
Tumblr media
In Trouble in Paradise she plays a pickpocket who flirts by stealing from her criminal boyfriend and I fell in love
Linked gifset
Tumblr media
youtube
She's got this sly slouchy confidence that just draws you in. Almost no one wore 30s fashion as well as her
queen of the pre-code era. often her roles were of carefree, flirty and lighthearted but intelligent women. famously in the movie where she was part of a fredrich march/gary cooper throuple.
Tumblr media
We all know that Design for Living is THE pre-code movie and she is so iconic in it. Her eyes are everythingggg. Also everyone look at her in a suit in She Loves Me Not please
Tumblr media
A Frequent collaborator of Ernst Lubistch, Miriam Hopkins like up the screen in her comic roles, as is especially sexy in her pre-code performance in Design for Living; probably one of the first movies to showcase a coded polyamorous relationship. She toes the line between adorable and sexy, and had the acting chops to back it all up.
Tumblr media
Dorothy Dandridge propaganda:
Tumblr media
Beautiful actress and hand-working and talented singer, she's especially notable for the number of firsts she accomplished such as the first African-American woman to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress and the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Life magazine.
Tumblr media
Dorothy Dandridge was a classic Hollywood triple threat, singing, dancing, and acting with the best of them. She was the first African American nominated for an academy award for Best Actress for her role in Carmen Jones and she was just jaw-droppingly beautiful.
youtube
this og of black film needs no introduction (star on the hollywood walk of fame anyone?), voice of an angel, heavenly features, just an overall stunning lady :)
Tumblr media
Look at her!!! She is so unbelievably charismatic in Carmen, it’s insane. Her chemistry with Harry Belafonte is off the charts, and every time she puts another outdoor [sic] on it’s like ‘oh god this is a whole new level of stunning’ 🥵. She was so so talented, when she’s on screen I genuinely dare you to tear your eyes away from her. Deserves to be known so much better but due to Hollywood racism and a tough personal life she didn’t make it as big as she should have done. She’s incredible.
Tumblr media
First Black actress to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress! Was the first choice for the role of Cleopatra that went to Elizabeth Taylor (we were ROBBED).
