“Violence for violence’s sake is not the rule of beasts but the nature of divinity.” Gubat Banwa is a game of rapid kinetic martial arts, violent sorcery, heartrending convictions and bouts of will. Warriors that channel gods face sorcerers that master black arts, martial artists who have unlocked a new form of cultivation clash swords with those that perfect the night alchemies. When the crocodile’s teeth are cast, convictions are unsheathed, and steel sparks: the Umalagad must declare that: “The river of life ever flows! Rejoice in the glory of combat!” and they enter violence
SWORD AND ENLIGHTENMENT. LOVE AND GLORY. VIOLENCE AND LIBERATION.
Tumblr media
Gubat Banwa is a  Southeast Asian fantasy martial arts Role-Playing Game, inspired by the refulgent cultures of Southeast Asia. Raise your spears, KADUNGGANAN, you elite warrior-braves and asura-knights who travel The Sword Isles to prove their conviction and dictate the fate of the world. Revel in larger-than-life war drama like in Asian Dramas, ballistic tactical martial arts grid gameplay in the vein of Lancer or Final Fantasy Tactics, and find glory beyond heaven. Wield the Thunderbolt of Liberation! Rejoice! In the Glory of Combat!

Included are!
A unique Southeast Asian-inspired Fantasy setting, with an emphasis on martial arts as a background for war drama and violence, from a Philippine-centric view. Garudas fight against unglu. Martial artist warriors master the Principle of Cutting by meditating upon the teachings of the Violent Bodhisattva. Rituals and superstitions must be performed or else risk the wrath of the ancestors. Vast kingdoms arise with God-Kings at their helm, claiming to be Shiva-Buddha incarnate. You and your warband stand at the center of this violent mandala!
A corresponding narrative system made to help play out war drama in this setting, along the veins of Final Fantasy Tactics, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Malazan, Tigana, Game of Thrones, and Tactics Ogre!
Want to try out the Thundering Tactics Battle System that fuses modern narrative sensibilities with D&D4e style tactical combat and wargaming dice pools. The Turn Order is known as the Rhythm, and you don't activate a unit; you fulminate a fighter. The game heavily relies on terrain abilities and emphasizes movement, especially with it's 3-Beat System, which lets you do 3 Actions per turn (some actions might cost more than 1 Beat!)
A Discipline System inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics Jobs, Digital Devil Saga's Mantras, and Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne's Magatama. Mix and match your Techniques! Change Disciplines with a single Downtime Action! Be a Death Dancer that heals with alchemies, or a Tigpana (Spiritual Archer) that rides upon a crocodile!
A narrative system wherein describing or doing dangerous and cool things is encouraged, as that is how you get Thunderbolt Tokens, which let you dictate your fate. This same narrative system prioritizes 5 Approaches instead of Abilities, in the vein of L5R, with each approach based off of the 5 Elements of Gubat Banwa's natural philosophies and esoteric tradition.
Said narrative system comes with a baked in Honor system that interplays with Debt, which is how you get others to do things for you. And NPCs can accrue this same debt, forcing you to follow them. If your Honor ever falls below 0, you must play a new Kadungganan!
An enemy system that allows for Solo and GM-less play! Roll an Enemy's Gambit Dice to find out what actions they do when they Fulminate. Adapt and act accordingly, make for dynamic fights!
Event tables and generators for every possible thing you might encounter while journeying in the Sword Isles, to fully immerse and play in its cultures! As well as Lore to fulfill any questions you might have.
Finally, baked in is the starter adventure: The Sword Devil. So you can jumpstart your games!

There! That’s a rehearsal blockade. China is rehearsing blockade to be later applied to Taiwan. guarantee that china is going to increase the ships with small boats to fill the gap and just have 4 coast guard ships aiming to fire as soon as the little boats are rammed or capsized.
The situation is imminent. Philippine and Taiwan must jointly develop naval strategies with aerial support and be ready for chinese escalation to missile warfare.
Philippine must not just have 2 coast guard ship unprepared for attack. China is rehearsing and staging and Philippine needs to reach out to all the southeast Asian countries to get support.

Isles of Bathala: The Aghoy
The Aghoy are small human-like creatures that tend to live in the branches of trees. They tend to have fair skin and vary in the amount of eyes that they have, usually some number between one (1) and three (3). They are considered a cousin to the elves. While they wear clothing made from the surrounding plantlife, they absolutely hate having their feet covered.
When travelers take or damage the trees they call home, the Aghoy will curse them, causing rashes to appear all around the body. In order to remove the curse, you must bring a present to the Aghoy and ask for forgiveness.
Despite this, the Aghoy are always looking for kind and honest people to make friends with. All Aghoy have been blessed with power from the Divinity Anagolay, the goddess of lost things. When they see someone they want to be friends with, they can sense if they have lost something important. Then, they are able to transport the item into their hand to give as a gift to their potential friend.
They also like to play small pranks, such as moving things around when you aren't looking or changing what position you are sleeping in.
The Real Life Inspiration
Much of the description is lifted directly from what I have read of the Aghoy, which is how the East Visayans refer to these small elves. They are described as short, pale-skinned, yellow hair, and bare foot. Most of what I read describes their kindness and search for friends by finding the items that their friends have lost.
The lost item is considered a test in some of the writings. If the recipient of the present acknowledges it was an important item they lost and thank the Aghoy, the person has passed the test of honesty and are rewarded. One item that has come up multiple times that the Aghoy have is magic purse of seemingly infinite gold.
They are also pranksters. They like to live near villages and change the sleeping positions of the people in those villages.
As for when they feel their home is being trespassed, they throw dust into the eyes of the encroachers. This also results in the trespassers developing rashes and twisted lips. This may be remedied by a healer going to the tree of the Aghoy with a gift of rice, asking for forgiveness.

Defending our environment has never been more crucial than today when environmental defenders face growing assaults and threats every day. According to the United Nations, at least three environmental defenders a week are being killed while upholding our environmental rights. Many more are being intimidated, harassed, and forced to leave their lands. This #EarthDay2023, we call on everyone to support our environmental defenders and protect them as we defend our environment against the attacks they receive from state and non-state perpetrators. Let us demand that our government stand with them and be accountable for their actions, with big corporations negatively impacting the environment. - Organize your screening of the documentary film DELIKADO today! Request by filling out our form at bit.ly/DelikadoScreening. You may also read more about it at bit.ly/DELIKADOBriefer. DELIKADO is a film about environmental defenders in Palawan, directed by Karl Malakunas.

For Philippine Independence Day: On Bodabil, The Filipino Vaudeville
Filipinas Heritage Library June 12 is celebrated as Independence Day in the Philippines (it’s the day the archipelago declared independence from Spain in 1898). Irrelevant to the concerns of this blog? How wrong you’d be to say that! All roads to lead to vaudeville, some more than others. But this story is bigger than that, and especially worth telling to people who are not aware of the long,…
