Naghunahuna ko nimo, woo-hoo. Girl, I need you by my side. I think about you adlaw ug gabii. Day and night, gimingaw kaayo ko nimo, woo-hoo.

Just finished "Surat Binisaya" by Rolando O. Borrinaga, which gave me a deeper understanding of the on-going challenges of translating Philippine scripts written on old Philippine artifacts.  One challenge is determining the validity and age of the artifacts. Another is determining what language was used when writing them, and what the objects were used for.  Last but not least, Borrinaga shares an updated list of old Bisaya words derived from a Spanish dictionary by Francisco Alcina written in 1668. The corrected words span 40 pages of "Surat Binisaya," with possibly 400 to 500 Bisaya words from the 1600s. The rest of my "book review" here: https://filipeanut.art/surat-binisaya-by-rolando-o-borrinaga/

Walay mahay nga gauna. A Cebuano saying for "no regret comes first" or loosely speaking, "think before you act!"

The St. Patrick's Case part 2 - Filipino Lines
EPISODE SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!
There's quite a bit of dialogue in Episode 30: The St. Patrick's Case (part 2) that Mari says in two different Filipino languages - Cebuano/Bisaya, and Tagalog.
Mari's Nanay (mother) is Cebuano/Bisaya, and her Tatay (father) is Tagalog.
[If you speak Cebuano/Bisaya and I pronounced it wrong, I am so sorry my Nanay never taught me Bisaya so she had to record lines for me to read out loud and I don't know if I did it all correctly!!! - Motzie]
MARI: [weakly] Nanay… Untana…
MARI: [muttering] Anagolay… gabayan mo po ako.
-
MARI: Hi Nay. I did something terrible today. May lalaki… Nakakapit sa akin habang namatay… Masama siyang tao… marami siyang pinatay pero… Naramdaman ko nung yumao siya. May naramdaman ako. Kapangyarihan.Gusto niyang ipamigay sa akin ang kanyang kaluluwa, sabi niya… ako yung bago niyang Diyos.
[sigh] Sira-ulo. Ito ba yung kinakatakutan niyo ni Tatay? Kapangyarihan?
O… [broken] kasiraan?
[whispering] Pasayloa ko, Nanay.
-
MARI: [gently, lovingly] You’re dying. I couldn’t stop it if I wanted to… and I don’t. But your sister still loves you, so your soul will pass where it must. Di ko siya dadakpin. But you will die, and everything you’ve done will mean nothing. You don’t get to have the power you tried to steal from others. This is all you’ll get.
-
[special thanks to my own Nanay for helping me write the Bisaya lines!]

“Buhat pasultihon dili sulti pabuhaton," loosely translates to actions speak louder than words, or “walk the talk.”
Learning a Bisaya language might seem intimidating, or nonessential to some, but many popular tourist destinations in the country are in Bisaya-speaking areas. Though many Visayans speak English, a basic foundation in Bisaya enables you to connect to people on a deeper level. Luckily Baba Bisaya is holding online lessons once a week this September to November. They are offering classes on Hiligaynon (spoken in Panay and Negros), Cebuano (Central Visayas and Northern Mindano), and Waray-waray (Samar and Leyte). Follow them on Instagram at bababisaya and keep watch for free online events prior to start of classes. There will be an IG Live Q&A on August 20 and a free open house on August 31. Last day to enroll is September 2!

Language (Pinulongan): Cebuano/Binisaya/Binisdak [ceb]
"Tingsì"
[ˈtɪŋsɪʔ]
A restrained smile, one that is typically involuntary.
You would know that I've stopped studying if you see me smiling.
See also (tan-awa pod): 'tingsì' in J. U. Wolff's (1972) Cebuano-English dictionary

I dont remember if Mari did it in the pod, but does she speak any dialects?
Mari doesn’t speak any dialects on her own. She does, however, speak Tagalog, English, and Bisaya/Cebuano (all of which are separate languages)!
(I personally can’t speak Bisaya so you hear Mari speak Tagalog more, but given her Nanay is Bisaya, she’s also able to speak it).
You’ve definitely heard Mari speak more than these languages at one point in the Pod, though!

lowkey #ScreenshotSaturday -- have some sprites! :+)
still figuring out how I want the UI/UX to feel like, but here's what the play button(s) look like.
because the game's about cooking, I figure, instead of "PLAY" it should be "Let's cook!"
how do you ask to cook in your language?👩🏽‍🍳
today's the first Saturday of the month, which means a freebie Patreon / Substack newsletter! Also streaming Dragon Age: Inquisition on Twitch in a little bit :+) https://www.twitch.tv/nashiira
