WIP Wednesday!
creator warnings: peatrice x groose
Link raised a brow and set down his chisel. “What do you mean?”
Groose swept a hand through his hair and sighed. “I’m having feelings.”
“About…?” Now Link’s full attention was on Groose, having abandoned the carving he was working on the second he walked in.
“It’s embarrassing to even say,” he mumbled. For the first time ever, Groose seemed small, shy, timid. “I don’t know, you’ll just make fun of me.”
“I won’t. I never have.”
“Link,” he groaned. He dragged his hand across his face. “I like someone.” Link didn’t know what to say. His jaw dropped, eyes wide. He knew it was possible for Groose to like someone, given all his childhood years in Skyloft had been spent pining after Zelda, but this… this was different. When he liked Zelda, he was loud, boisterous, and mean. But now, he seemed so nervous.
Oh my Goddesses, Link thought. This is serious.
“Who…?” It was a tentative question. Link almost didn’t want to know.
“Well, y’know, it’s someone. In the village. On the surface with us. Around here, just about. Works right next door, actually.”
Link was sure he’d catch flies in his mouth at this rate. He knew immediately who it was.
“Peatrice?!” he exclaimed louder than he meant, and Groose rapidly shushed him, shooting up from his chair and slamming the door shut.
“Someone’s gonna hear!”
“I’m sorry, I just– Peatrice?”
Groose nodded, face almost as red as his hair. “Link, I know you and her had a thing going on–”
“We did not have a thing going on. I was being polite and she… took it the wrong way, I guess.”
“Anyway, I don’t know. I think I really like her. I visit her every day to deposit some stupid scrap or whatever, but it’s just an excuse to talk to her. Sometimes I have Gondo talk to her and ask her what she thinks of me and stuff.”
Link said nothing.
“Look, I need your help. I don’t know how to tell her because what if she thinks I’m a weirdo? Or a freak? The hair is an acquired taste, I know, but–”
“You’ll be fine.”
“Huh?”
“You’ll be fine. I know it for a fact. You just need to work up the courage and tell her.”
“Easier said than done, bigshot. You have a whole world-saving adventure behind your back. I have, what, Grooseland? And that’s not even the real name because you guys are no fun.”
Link did know it for a fact, though, because one night Zelda came home from Peatrice’s Item Check and wouldn’t stop giggling to herself, so he’d asked her what had put her in such a good mood. Before she could stop herself, she blurted it out.
“Peatrice likes Groose!” And then she giggled some more. “Can you believe that?”
No, he couldn’t. In fact, it had almost made him cringe remembering Peatrice’s fondness with him during his own journey.
But now, part of him wanted to help in the matchmaking process. He knew what Zelda had been up to the whole time she’d asked Groose about Peatrice–if he liked her, what he thought of her, if he thought she was pretty–and that she was entirely in on the game.
“I can be your wingman,” Link offered. “I know Pipit did that for Fledge once.”
“That didn’t work out,” Groose said with a roll of his eyes.
“Right, sorry.”
“And it would be weird for you to be my wingman since she used to like you. Maybe I’ll just bring Gondo along, like I always do.”
“Good idea.” Link turned around and took his chisel back up, starting to work away at the wood again.
Groose sighed and held his head in his hands. “I’m going to the Item Check,” he said finally. Link bit back a chuckle and instead took off a larger chunk of wood than he meant to.

I was wondering if anyone is up for a Peatrice x Link rp? I would be Link and the plot could take place after Peatrice basically confesses her affection for Link when you talk to her after sleeping in enough beds, she asks him out. Link accepts it and they go on a nice romantic date. I’m fine with smut as long as you’re 18 and older. If you’re not 18 or older, there will be no smut.

Semi Zelda Rant
Okay but, assuming that there will be more games after BotW, are the developers really going to pair Link and Zelda Every. Single. Time . . . ? Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the pairing, it's just the whole 'reincarnated goddess and her hero' thing has already gotten tiresome if that is what we're going to expect from now on. I can understand the Zelink in Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, maybe Ocarina of Time, most certainly not Twilight Princess, but I'd like to see something different in the games other than Zelink. Like Illa from Twilight Princess; I love that pairing because, mostly:
1) It was different
2) It made sense.
I don't dislike the Zelink pairing in BotW, but - I can't - Mipha is so precious! As well as Paya, Malon, and even Peatrice from Skyward Sword. Ah well, I'll leave these special pairings to the fanbase, then :)

Twilight Princess Link is the one I know best but Skyward/Toon might blend in here
1: sexuality headcanon - BABY BI BI BI. Look, I just get the vibes that in TP, the people he finds just drop-dead gorgeous are Ilia, Zelda, Midna, and Shad. (I'm not gonna do my essay on why ShadLink is a super emotional and fun side ship but rest assured I have one.) I don't really care about BOTW but I hear that he has a crush on a big fish man and good for him. It's what he deserves. Skyward Link is probably in a state of "OH NO HE'S HOT" about Ghirahim's flirting, like "This man wants to kill me, why am I staring at the biceps when he does the dramatic poses, please brain not this man." But! Girls! Oh my God women are so beautiful to him! Midna was an AWAKENING. I'm not big on Zelink (except weirdly in Minish Cap) but I can see how it flavors canon. And Skyward? I, uh...I like Link/Peatrice. I know it's a whole "test of honesty" sidequest but I like to think that if you choose to confess to her, it's because Link DOES mean it, because she's always waiting for him when he has items to check and he probably can't help but tell her about some of his adventures when he does and then oh no she's too cute when she does the happy dance and Link has a weak heart that gets crushes way too easily. Link goes around his daily life like "The boys are pretty. The girls are pretty." And I don't know of a character we can canonically call nonbinary (except maybe Link himself?) but I'm SURE he would also find enbies also too pretty. And no, I don't see him as a horny perv type. Link is a BLUSHING AWKWARD MESS who tries to sweep all his crushes off their goddamn FEET so he can spend quality time with them.
2: otp - I don't know anymore for TP Link because I juuuuuust broke up my longtime love of MidLink (listen...the cinematic parallels between Midna and Lailah Zestiria were too strong, and now MidLailah is a thing and oops, Midna is ALSO bi as fuck) and I just said ShadLink was lovely but I also have nostalgia for Ashei/Shad so Iunno. But Skyward Link definitely is destined for PEATRICE. Listen, the dynamic of "chosen one hero who goes on the adventure x the one shopkeeper you have to meet up with basically every time you set out for a mission" SPEAKS TO ME, OKAY?
3: brotp - Midna. Zelda. Linebeck. Ashei. Agitha. Colin.
4: notp - There's not really any one ship I haaaaate for him. Even GanonLink could be fun if you do it right. I'm not a fan of the way most people play GhiraLink admittedly - you do you, but I always feel like Ghirahim needs somebody more VICIOUS to match his evil energy (I feel very strongly about villain4villain ships). But it's not BAD and it has some basis in canon subtextual dialogue. I guess the only ship that would gross me out upon sight is if you put him with Epona in a scenario where Epona did not gain human-level communication abilities.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head - I just like to think that after the events of Twilight Princess, Link realized that he loved the thrill of the journey more than he did just kicking around home, and though he does still have a permanent house in Ordon where he grew up, he will also take any excuse for a ROAD TRIP ADVENTURE.
6: one way in which I relate to this character - Taking the weight of the world upon our shoulders.
7: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character - Sumo Link in the iron boots. Because I would become an embarrassed mess if I had to wear that little fabric and so then I of course have to imagine wearing that little fabric and become an embarrassed mess just thinking about it. He is a braver person than I.

I was bored made a thing
OOC - Even when younger I never shipped with Zelda but Ruto has grown on me with time. Still you cant deny Malon is best girl.
WW - I use to ship Tetra the most (really the only linkxzelda i like) but on my last play through Milia snuck up on me, i found myself wishing she had more to say with link. Komali is also new the idea of link helping him after Medli is so angsty i love it. Medli is such a sweety so i coulda not ship her. (though it is even with Komali)
TP - Midna use to be my top ship but as time goes on i find myself brotping them more and like link just seems to love Ilia so god damn much. Shade and Hena were again surprises on replay, Shade is just so excitable about his research i started imagining the two on a journey, and Hena is so into fishing i started thinking about Link just relaxing with her fishing.
SS - Ok come on Peatrice is cute and i love that technically Link can have a girlfriend in this game. Kina reminded me so much of Malon I just cant help myself. I DARE you to tell me Groose doesnt have a tiny crush on link, but also imagine the absolute perfect love triangle here, Groose->Zelda->Link->Groose im laughing just thinking about it.
BoW - Im sorry the tradegy and softness of MiphaxLink is just too strong for me that Sidon has to come second but sunshine sharkman is a close second. The idea of Paya misunderstanding Links interest in her is so funny and right up my alley. Buliara is a bit of a stretch but the idea of this woman finally being able to relax and soften cause of link is very cute to me. BONUS I couldnt fit it on the thing but OT3 Link x Teba x Saki cause i think you know this man deserves to have a sweet domestic life with lovely bird people.

Hylia: No choice! Gotta die!
Trying to draw a Triforce on a sacred wall and failing every time. EVERY. TIME.
“Jumping off a cliff in the middle of a conversation is rude, Link!”

I am 100% serious when I say I love Peatrice and Link, it might be a joke but I want what's best for Link and he deserves this cute summer fling
Peatrice is his first gentle, no strings attached love. She is shy and flirty, he is even more so. He doesn't like her at first, she's rude and bored, but when she starts saying things like "Are you here to see me?" The spark is set in his mind that... Yeah... He is going to the item check more than he needs to, and she is cute. And it blossoms from there. It's not all perfect, Peatrice says "I love you" two weeks in immediately after Link goes to the past and he has a breakdown about what love really is (he panicked and said it back—but does he really love her? Does Zelda/Hylia really love him?)
He loves Zelda, yes, but Zelda's love is pushy and rough (in a good way!!!) and takes him out of his comfort zone. Zelda's love feels conditional now, that both his best friend and his goddess will only love him if he succeeds. That doesn't mean it is, but it's different from Peatrice's totally attainable puppy love that he thinks he doesn't have to work for, all he has to do is show up at the item check and go to her house a few times. For Zelda... He has to save the entire world to be loved. (and he will, but he doesn't need to)
Maybe he had a crush on Pipit when he was younger, but Pipit will always see him as a little kid (he's only a year older but he's got a bit of a superiority complex). Skyloft's not homophobic, but it is heteronormative, and Pipit's still straight. Link's young and he doesn't want to deal with it, he's not sure what he's feeling. Pipit is sweet, but condescending, and he will always have to strive to be better in his eyes. Zelda teased him about being lazy but accepted it and planned accordingly, Pipit thinks he could do better if he just tried harder. If Link is ADHD hearing that shit hurts. Pipit thinks everyone should just be like him, and doesn't see Link's way of doing things. Pipit's attention always comes with criticism, and while that sometimes helps him, it's not a good basis for a relationship.
And whatever he has with Ghirahim is not love and is nothing like it. If Zelda's love is rough and pushy, Ghirahim's is violent and possessive and toxic and he doesn't want it, but it's a distraction. He's always a second, third, fourth thought, he's a sidenote and an annoyance and an obstacle. Peatrice and Ghirahim are both distractions and/or coping mechanisms, but Peatrice is like excessive and empty self care that does nothing. Ghirahim is self harm. (I'm ghiralink trash so yeah that changes post game but in game let them be a dysfunctional toxic mess. They have to really be enemies first in order for there to be enemies to lovers)
Peatrice's love is too good to be true, but love isn't perfectly gentle and sweet and romantic all the time. It doesn't last, because Peatrice never really liked him, she liked the idea of a secret boyfriend, and as soon as it's not a secret she starts losing feelings (she didn't do it on purpose, she kind of fell for the first guy that showed her any attention—one way of thinking about this is they're both just gay and didn't realize it)
Peatrice and Link is GOOD it's not an OTP or whatever but it's very interesting to think about
