Uea + Gray
Ok, I wrote this all in response to a post from @respectthepetty but I crave attention so I'm making it it's own post :p
So there is contention about whether or not King's true color is black or blue, throughout Bed Friend we have seen King wear a hell of a lot of black and a hell of a lot of blue. So it's posisble that he is two-toned but I am generally more in the "King is a Blue Boy" camp because at his core, when he is stripped down and bare around Uea in the privacy of his own apartment, he is in blue.

But like RTP has said before, if the black is not one of King's true colors, it means that he is hiding something (his love for Uea) SO WHEN UEA' S WARDROBE THIS EPISODE FLUCTUATES PRIMARILY BETWEEN BLUE, BLACK, AND GRAY?????????????? OUTSIDE OF JUST HIS ROBES????? IN PUBLIC?????????????
You can imagine my excitement...my friends, I present to you THE UEA REALIZING HIS FEELINGS FOR KING EPISODE!!!
We start Ep. 5 where we left off, with Uea and King on the beach. With Uea in red. But the important part is not his outfit, it's his words. "No. It's supposed to be like that, to not take advantage of me."

In episode 4, after Pock assaulted Uea, King asked the same question:

"Can I have something else?" besides a thank you for rescuing you? But Uea's responses are wildly different. In Episode 4 Uea's reply is "If you want more than this, then let's get going," as opposed to "No. It's supposed to be like that, to not take advantage of me." and King doesn't argue, he just asks if they can have sleep together that evening, and Uea says "run out of quota," We are seeing Uea enforce his boundaries with King, oh wait, no I'm sorry. I mean test his boundaries with King. To me, the scene where Uea denies King sex and cites the rules of their FWB, is the beginning of Uea trying to get a better sense of King's interest in him. Is King really a good guy? Does King only care about Uea because they are fucking? What will King's reaction be when he doesn't get what he wants? King makes a joke about Uea being too strict, with the previous evening being totally different (I don't fully understand the context but I'm assuming it's because Uea is counting them sharing a bed in the hotel as one of their three nights and King isn't because they didn't have sex) but otherwise seems content.
So what do we get in the next scene?

(side note: all my love and adoration to whoever decided to go apeshit on the mirrors and reflections in this show) Uea in gray, King in blue. Now, we've seen Uea in this particular gray robe a bunch, but that doesn't negate the fact that he's hiding his feelings. In this scene, King forgets about Uea's trigger, and accidentally sets it off, sees Uea react like this:

Immediately realizes his mistake, and apologizes:

"I'm sorry. You said you don't like it," and gives Uea space that he doesn't ask for but that King knows he needs based on the first time he accidentally triggered Uea and Uea went to hide in his hallway.
What color does Uea wear after?

Our boy is back to wearing blue.

Side note, there is now a red pillow in King's chair which I do not believe existed before...
And more specifically we get him wearing blue at the point in which King is starting to reveal his feelings to him by way of conversation with Jade.

The person he took home is very cute. The person he took home is someone he likes. The person he took home is his type: cold and fierce. The person he took home is much more than a one night stand. And he says these things always looking at Uea.
Uea is wearing this blue when he gets this moment of casual care and intimacy with King:

and when King tries to get his opinion on whether or not he should go on the date with the person his Mom arranged for him:

Next scene?

Back in the gray that Uea always wears when he has sex with King. But this time we end the scene with Uea asking King not to smoke for him, and gently stroking King's waist, and pressing kisses to King's arms and King is saying "yes i'll skip the cigarette for you" and King is saying "let's sleep together" and King is kissing the top of Uea's head and stroking his hair, and hugging him and he's so quiet and gentle and in the morning? What is Uea wearing?

Black.
Two weeks later, what is Uea wearing?

Gray.
And in both these instances, it's interesting because Kit is involved in the scene, and Uea is matching Kit's colors. I suppose this in part is to show that Kit and Uea are connected. That Kit is trying to get Uea to like him, that Kit is trying (and failing) to hide his toxicity, and Uea is trying to hide himself. Trying to hide his personality, trying not to engage with Kit. So that makes sense to me in one sense, but I think there is a double meaning to the gray, and that is that Uea is not being honest about his feelings for King.
We know it, King knows it, and King is just being absolutely patient about it, because he wants Uea to make the first move. He wants, in my mind, to make sure that Uea is a willing participant in changing their relationship from FWB to lovers. He doesn't want Uea to feel pressured into anything, and he doesn't want to ruin what he has with Uea if Uea doesn't feel the same way.
And I think the black and gray is not just meant to tie Kit and Uea together but to symbolize Uea hiding his realization that he is in love with King because we get another round of tests. Or I guess, more accurately, we get King pushing Uea's initial FWB rules.

King puts his arm over Uea's shoulder when they are leaving the coffee shop and Uea doesn't protest, and not only does Uea not protest, but he allows King to continue to hold him like this where other people can see them until they stop to have a conversation at which point Uea gently elbows King off of him to position himself so that King and Uea can be looking each other in the eye while they talk...and that only happens when they are alone. Uea allows himself to be seen in King's embrace by his coworkers.
King is honest about his feelings and tells Uea he is annoyed and Uea stops King from leaving by grabbing King's upper arm and asking him if ignoring Kit is not enough for King to know that Uea isn't flirting, that he doesn't want that attention.

Which to me reads as Uea caring about whether or not King thinks that he might be looking at other people and no longer want to continue their friends with benefits situation. Uea very clearly has a vested interest in making sure King is aware that Uea is not trying to get with Krit.

Then, of course, there is the way that Uea looks at King in the office, when Jade is asking for updates about King and his potential blind date.

King once again pushing at Uea's office boundary by holding Uea's hand and looking him straight in the eye when he says "I'm waiting for him to be ready,"
And I love the exchange here with Jade where Jade is like "Uea, don't be like King," and King messes with his black jacket so that he ends up pulling it more closed "Having a crush on someone but keeping it hidden from friends," and Uea says:

"I don't have one", you know, like a liar. But Uea is bad at hiding his feelings, especially when it comes to King because King is very good at reading Uea. So we get the barest little smile when Uea denies having a crush, without a trace of King looking upset, heartbroken, or rejected.
Instead he tests the work boundary again by being a clingy little baby and teasing Uea with his very exaggerated attempts to hold Uea's hand, and the little kissy face that he makes afterwards:

And where Uea could be genuinely upset or pissed off because King is overstepping the boundaries, but what happens?

It's hard to tell in screen shots but we get the barest of smiles from Uea as he returns to his desk.
Then we get the Kit v. King show down where Uea, emboldened by King turns Kit down:

And the conversation in the break room where Uea says Kit is not his type, and King asks "players?" and Uea looks...guilty? almost, and King is there, flirting with him, asking is Uea believes that he can stop being a player when he cares about someone. And Uea refuses to make eye contact, because he has seen absolutely zero indication from King that he is being a player since they started seeing each other and they laid out the "don't have sex with other people" rule. But again, he's lying about his feelings. He's hiding his feelings so he says "No" no he doesn't believe it. But where King looked almost at the verge of tears the last time that Uea doubted his ability to stop being a player (back in like, episode 1 I think) this time King just..smiles. This time King says "if you never try, you'll never know,"
So King pushes again...this time he loudly asks Uea if he can sleep with him, and he does so at work, and in front of other people. He has pushed too far, so we think, because Uea immediately pulls him away and asks "have you forgotten our agreement?" and the conversation could have ended there. King could have been apologetic, King could have backed off, King could have admitted defeat. He asks "if you don't like it this way, what should I do instead?"
If Uea was fully not okay with King propositioning him at work, he could have said "don't do that here," he could have said "we will not discuss this further, this is a rule I set and you are breaking it, don't do it again,"
Does he? No.
No, no he does not. Uea, in fact, comes up with a very quick solution to allow him and King to flirt in public at the office without people finding out.

Fake phone calls for the win! I love that the second King is able to pretend like he is talking to someone on the phone he just starts showering Uea with "Darling" and "Babe" as frequently as he possibly can. This man is desperately in love with Uea and he's doing everything in his power to show Uea that he feels strongly about him, that he cares for him, that he wants them to be more. He will look Uea directly in the eye and say he's waiting for him to be ready. But he's doing it while teasing Uea at the same time. So does that come off as genuine? No. Is it genuine? Absolutely. But King is in black this whole time because he is still hiding his very real feelings for Uea behind taunts and teases.
So we end the episode with Uea in a blue shirt while watching the football game with King.

Also, I think this is the first time we see King in yellow....P'King, are we happy that Uea is hanging out with us outside of sexy time?
Uea embraced by both King and blue sheets when the lights go out during the storm and he's panicking. King telling him that it's okay, that he's here, that he promises to hold him through the night.

And in the morning? What are they wearing? What colors are on their bodies when Uea and King get interrogated about maybe secretly dating?

Uea is back to his anxiety red and King is in...OH YEAH BABY, THAT'S RIGHT!!! BLUE
It is then worth noting that King is wearing blue in a scene where King's true feelings for Uea cause his jealousy to boil over when he sees Gun talking to Uea, because King knows Gun has a crush on Uea. King is being serious in this scene. He's not making jokes, when Gun questions him King simply says "it's my business,". The only time he gets playful at all in this scene is when Jade says he'll bark with Dang in front of the offfice if Uea and King are secretly dating, and when Uea and King both say "yeah" at the same time and King gets a little playful twinkle in his eye.
From the trailer next week it looks like we are getting more of Kit and Uea which will be interesting in terms of seeing how King reacts when he finds out that Kit is still harassing Uea.

__Dee sat on his couch reading a book as he manspreads, his other arm was resting under his head. He wore glasses as he read, humming a small tune. You soon walked in and notice him reading, you giggle evilly knowing damn well he gets so distracted into that book he won’t notice you. You slowly crept over and stood between his legs, popping down and folding your legs under your ass.
Your hands trail up bare legs to his biker short, your thumbs begin to rub small circles around on his thighs. You heard Dee let out a small chirp of Surprise and he snaps his neck down at you, his eyes widen as he now notices you down there. In that position..
he gulped and he placed down the book as his hand than rubs over his chin than to mouth. Your small strokes of your thumbs turned into full on massages to his thighs, causing his lower body to shake and twitch. He let out small muffled groans and chirps as you did this, his golden eyes staring down at you with need…
I've always has the headcanon that as Donnie grows older, his thighs are always sore from squatting to work on the turtle tank.

#i got in some kinda rpg maker horror game zone cause i looked at my drm free games folder and i realized that uh#my rpg maker folder had like 150something games in there#dont even ask about my renpy folder and general freeware folders#my backlog is unreal#anyway i played doghouse 2 (from my general freeware folder) and that was a fun little scary/silly ps1 looking game!!#very funny and also frightening simultaneiously. awesome#then i went over to the rpg maker folder and realized i hadnt downloaded all the rtps on my new computer yet and descended into madness#but then i grabbed them and installed em all real quick (at least the english ones. i still need to grab the japanese ones rip)#and then i played a little jam game called Good Job! by ummmmm#kathinka.png is listed under my list-of-freeware-games-ive-played (weird list i keep)#that was neat it was a fun little jam game with funky conceptual stuff going on which im always a fan of#and after that i played (i think another jam game) GISELLE by yuumsarte which was very sweet#it was very classic rpg maker horror with its puzzles and level design#and the story was just very kind and uplifting in a way. i think thats the great thing about small freeware games like this#you can tell short stories with heavy subject matter with an honesty that helps make the hopeful message so much stronger#if that makes sense? my allergies have been killing me for the past two weeks so ive just sorta been embracing my wackiness#who knows what im saying. its none of my business at least

Tomb of Yu Hong 592-598 CE. Link to my blog at bottom with more sources and description of individual images.
This is probably a Sogdian tomb. Interestingly, the man has a haplogroup that was widespread amongst the blue-eyed Mesolithic/Neolithic Western Hunter Gatherers (WHG are probably where blue eyes originated from) and the haplogroup is found today most prominently in Sami, Finns, and Estonians. His wife has a haplogroup found prominently amongst East Asians. Based on her East Asian origins and the inclusion of some Turkic-looking people in the tomb's artwork I would assume she was probably a Turk, herself. The long-haired men without halos (e.g. panel 4) are probably Turks, that was a typical appearance for them during this time period. Men from other surrounding populations such as the Sogdians, Huns, Tocharians, etc. typically kept shorter hair that didn't go past their shoulders. More info:
"The man buried in the tomb went by Yu Hong (Chinese: 虞弘; pinyin: Yú Hóng; Wade–Giles: Yü Hung; 533–592 AD), with Mopan (莫潘) as his courtesy name, who was a Central Asian, probably of Persian or Sogdian origin, and practiced Zoroastrianism. He had settled in Early Middle Period China during the Northern Qi, Northern Zhou and Sui dynasties. This tomb is so far the only archaeological find in the Central Plains region that reflects Central Asian (Western Regions) culture. The epitaph found in the tomb records that he was a noble of the city of Yü-ho-lin / Yuhelin (尉紇驎) in the mysterious Yu country (魚國), assumably for which he is named, because the two characters 虞 and 魚 are homophones.
According to the epitaph, Yu Hong started his career in service of the nomadic tribe at the time, known as Ruru. At the age of 13, he was posted as an emissary to Persia by the Khagan of Ruru, as well as Parthia, Tuyuhun and Yuezhi. Later he went on a mission to the Northern Qi, Northern Zhou and Sui dynasties. He served as chien-chiao sa-pao fu / jianjiao sabao fu (檢校薩保府, lit. “acting director of the office of Zoroastrian affairs”, or “Sogdian affairs”) during the Northern Zhou period. The term sa-pao / sabao (薩保) comes from the Sogdian s′rtp′w, means a “caravan leader”.
He had later served as a provincial governor in the Sui dynasty government, a chieftain of the Central Asian people who had settled in China during that period. Yu Hong died at the age of 59 in 592 AD. His wife survived him by six years, and was buried in the same grave in 598 AD.
A study on ancient DNA reveals that Yu Hong belonged to the haplogroup U5, one of the oldest western Eurasian-specific haplogroups, while his wife can be classified as haplogroup G, the type prevalent in East Asia.
The age of U5 is estimated at between 25,000 and 35,000 years old, roughly corresponding to the Gravettian culture. Approximately 11% of Europeans (10% of European-Americans) have some variant of haplogroup U5.
U5 was the predominant mtDNA of mesolithic Western Hunter Gatherers (WHG) [this is where blue eyes probably originated from].
U5 has been found in human remains dating from the Mesolithic in England, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, France and Spain. Neolithic skeletons (~7,000 years old) that were excavated from the Avellaner cave in Catalonia, northeastern Spain included a specimen carrying haplogroup U5.
Haplogroup U5 and its subclades U5a and U5b today form the highest population concentrations in the far north, among Sami, Finns, and Estonians. However, it is spread widely at lower levels throughout Europe. This distribution, and the age of the haplogroup, indicate individuals belonging to this clade were part of the initial expansion tracking the retreat of ice sheets from Europe around 10,000 years ago.
U5 was the main haplogroup of mesolithic European hunter gatherers. U haplogroups were present at 83% in European hunter gatherers before influx of Middle Eastern farmer and steppe Indo-European ancestry decreased its frequency to less than 21%.
Today, haplogroup G is found at its highest frequency in indigenous populations of the lands surrounding the Sea of Okhotsk. It is an East Asian haplogroup. Haplogroup G is one of the most common mtDNA haplogroups among modern Ainu, Siberian, Mongol, Tibetan and Central and North Asian Turkic peoples people (as well as among people of the prehistoric Jōmon culture in Hokkaidō). It is also found at a lower frequency among many other populations of East Asia, Central Asia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. However, unlike other mitochondrial DNA haplogroups typical of populations of northeastern Asia, such as haplogroup A, haplogroup C, and haplogroup D, haplogroup G has not been found among indigenous peoples of the Americas."

How to play RPGMaker Games in foreign languages with Machine Translation
This is in part a rewrite of a friend's tutorial, and in part a more streamlined version of it based on what steps I found important, to make it a bit easier to understand!
Please note that as with any Machine Translation, there will errors and issues. You will not get the same experience as someone fluent in the language, and you will not get the same experience as with playing a translation done by a real person.
If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask!
1. Ensure that you are downloading your game in the right region Locale.
In your region (administrative) settings, change 'Language for non-unicode programs' to the language of your choice. This will ensure that the file names are extracted to the right language. MAKE SURE you download AND extract the game with the right settings! DO NOT CHECK THE 'use utf-8 encoding' BOX. This ONLY needs to be done during the initial download and extraction; once everything is downloaded+extracted, you can and should set your region back to your previous settings. helpful tutorials are here and here!
2. Download and extract the Locale Emulator

3. Download your desired game and, if necessary, relevant RTP
The tools MUST be downloaded and extracted in the game's language. For japanese, they are here. ensure that you are still in the right locale for non-unicode programs!
4. Download and set up your Textractor!
Textractor tutorial and using it with DeepL. The Firefox tools for DeepL were broken, last I checked, but the Chrome tools work fine! If the tools don't work on chrome, you should be able to either use the inbuilt extensions, or copy-paste the text in yourself.
5. Run through the Locale Emulator
YES, this is a necessary step, EVEN IF YOUR REGION SETTINGS ARE CORRECT. Some games will not display the correct text unless you also RUN it in the right locale. You should be able to right click the game and see the Locale Emulator as an option like this. Run in Japanese (or whatever language is needed). You don't need to run as Admin if you don't want to, it should work either way.

6. Attach the Textractor and follow previously linked tutorials on how to set up the tools and the MTL.
Other notes:
There are also inbuilt Machine Translation Extensions, but those have a usage limit due to restrictions on the API. The Chrome/Firefox add-ons in the walkthrough in step 4 get around this by using the website itself, which doesn't have the same restrictions as the API does.
This will work best for RPGMaker games. For VNs, the textractor can have difficulties hooking in to extract the text, and may take some finagling.

THE MORNING AFTER: ONLY FRIENDS, EPISODE 4 (“UHHH, IF I FEEL SOMETHING, DOES IT MEAN I HAVE FEELINGS, WOMP?”) EDITION

That’s how I felt after watching yesterday’s episode. I have NO BUSINESS writing meta in my current life-mental state, but I NEED to get a few words down. Just some list-y thoughts.
Shit’s starting to gel for me. The cast seems like they’ve warmed up to each other by way of actor-ly chemistry. (I know scenes are never shot in order, but there was maybe a little stiffness I felt at the start of the series? At this point, it might just be Lookjun carrying that, but I also don’t think she does “drunk” as well as the others.)
Such good meta that sustained me during my packing yesterday. @ranchthoughts on an ephemerality BREAKDOWN. @respectthepetty Senpai on sluts slutting — and HOW WE AUTOMATICALLY JUDGE AND LABEL SLUTS FOR SLUTTING (more on this in a BIT — go OFF, RTP Senpai). And @slayerkitty on nailing the narrative frameworks, which really struck me this episode, and this goes back to ephemerality again. Can’t believe I’m gonna meta, but let’s boogie, ‘cause I gotta.
@ranchthoughts — Ranch, I’m probably going to repeat some of what you wrote, so please forgive my stress-addled brain. I just lost it at Khaotung this episode, I thought he was just OVERFLOWING with BEST-NESS this episode — and the way we lived with Ray in his past in this episode. It was another play on time. And I love that @slayerkitty nailed that it was the flashbacks that were doing the talking this episode — because especially for Ray, the past is doing HIS talking. His mother didn’t love him in his past. Therefore, because of his past, he is unlovable in his present. (Interrrrgenerationalllll traumaaaa — the past affects your present. The opposite of ephemerality. That shit’ll STICK with you UNTIL you decide to face it head-on, like our beloved PatPran.)
Ooooh, baby. Gosh. The combination of the use of flashbacks, with Ray living in his past, only listening to music his parents listened to. And Sand — falling for Ray! — is holding Ray’s hand and bringing him to the present and the new. Sand’s a figure of change. Ray keeps toeing BACK to the past, to his memories, to his “love” for Mew, and Sand’s like, let me hold you down. (Ray going back and forth — like relapsing.) Ray STILL flashing back to Mew, holding that pendant (THAT LOOKS AN AWFUL LIKE AN ECLIPSE SYMBOL, AMIRITE AMIRITE) — and flashes again back and forward to the record store, where Sand found Ray’s hand.
What will Ray need for Sand to do to pull Ray even closer to the real-time present? How will Sand help Ray face his trauma? Will Sand really hold Ray down?
I am a big believer in the ships sinking, but goddamnit, First and Khao ATE this episode. GAAAHHHH.
Just musing: If Jojo and team started out this series having us think on ephemerality, the general lack of accountability, and the disappearance of time — are we entering the next act of the series where the characters grapple with the impacts of their pasts? That if you’re engaged emotionally and/or sexually with others, that not being accountable for your past and present is NOT an option? (That’s a kind of frame that speaks very closely to Jojo’s devotion to messages of sexual health in his past shows — especially regarding Nat in Gay OK Bangkok, who was HIV positive.)
Also musing: I saw some posts on my dash grappling with Top and Ray using coke. Drug use is obviously common on the partying circuit — their using coke doesn’t surprise me, especially considering that Top and Ray were both shown also being familiar with pills earlier. But I will note that the entire SE Asian region prosecutes the drug trade quite harshly, so to be honest, I was surprised to see Top actually snorting (but not surprised that that would be in a Jojo show). (Some passing links: when I Googled “drug use in Thailand,” this study shows that of a sample of vocational students in Thailand, LGBTQ+ students were more likely to use three or more drugs than heterosexual students, plus more findings. And this article briefly reviews the history of drug prosecution in Thailand.)
Also musing: really loved how Top’s demeanor was SO different with Nick and Sand. Maybe this indicates how much he’s “controlling” himself around Mew (@ranchthoughts , beep beep, control). Especially when Nick was talking with Top — it seemed like Top had been approached for money like this before. And the way he was so forward with Sand, confident to tell Sand that Sand wasn’t up for keeping Boeing — that was a totally different Top than who we see with Mew.
Okay, penultimate point. @respectthepetty says: sluts gonna slut. @bengiyo says: dudes gonna dude.
Cheum calls Boston a ho. Top says Boston is nasty. Nick calls himself nasty. Nick is Boston’s “favorite.” Jojo challenges the viewer to think that Top was gonna sleep with Beam, as RTP Senpai writes. Top’s already slept with Boston while dating Mew. On and on and on.
I wrote in my review of Theory of Love that I related to Khai, and now I relate somewhat to Top by the way that some of the viewership has judged Top. I was VERY often called the slut/ho of my friend groups in my younger years. OFTEN. And this was while I was in my twenties, exploring myself, my boundaries, my sexuality, all of it.
I relate to the struggle of trying to shed labels. Ray is a “burden.” Boston is “nasty.” Mew wants the truth from Top as to if Top has been with anyone else while they were dating. Therefore — Mew is assuming that Top IS sleeping with other people.
Call these people by their labels, and they’ll start believing them. It’s just another kind of trauma, similar to intergenerational trauma.
I wrote in my Theory of Love piece that as a global society — humans don’t really believe that our fellow humans can CHANGE. We don’t accept change well. (Cancel culture rarely allows for someone to be uncancelled — right?) If someone takes on a label — we tend to believe that label, and we have a hard time believing that someone has SHED that label after time. If Ray was called a burden by his mother — what work will it take for Ray to shed that label? And same for our sexually active guys, too.
Think about how you talk about your friends to others. Think about if you use labels to talk about them. Think about how old those labels are, and if they’re accurate in the present. And. Think about how you judge others by their pasts. (“Remember when so-and-so was sleeping around?”) Think about whether or not you use the past to judge and/or justify your FEELINGS about someone.
Now, I don’t even KNOW if these guys WANT to change these paradigms. We get the SLIGHTEST hint that maybe Boston wants to do so with Nick in next week’s preview.
But. I just fucking love that Jojo is playing around with this. If someone is HIV positive — that’s a label, a stigma. If someone is a ho — that’s a label, a stigma.
These dudes are burdened by what everyone else is thinking and saying about them.
And we have Sand, on the other hand, processing his feelings with Nick. We have Nick acting like a damn BASKETCASE, but at least he admitted the wiretapping to Sand (??? lol honey but you gotta stop this now, nervous giggles, put Boston’s phone down). We didn’t see Yo in this episode, but we know Yo believes in accountability.
There’s something about the Ray-Mew-Cheum-Boston friend group that allows things to both slide and fester. We’ll get ever more clarity in the following episodes on this, but — these young folks are having ish dealing with their labels, the labels of their pasts, and what are they gonna do in their presents and futures to deal with changing themselves?
FINALLY, and then I’m done rambling. Is that supposed to be a penis, or something penis-like?!

Few headcanons for TPOF RtP AU Mason and Assistant!MC:
On the first day of work, Mason fed you his food and asked for opinions on the taste (Too chewy? Too salty? Did he put too much spice, and now the natural sweetness of the meat disappeared?)
Puts you in charge of cameras and techs, and might let you teach him how to operate them
He would make you learn how to spot animals in the forest near his cottage, and he'd hunt them down
Derek and Celia hang around him so much whenever Mason visits the headquarters, rambling around their days while asking you how he's been doing in the depths of the forest
Opposite to Derek and Celia, who have overworking tendencies, Mason is very laidback in his work, mostly hunting, eating, and taking care of his crops in his backyard
Mason also has an office in the headquarters, mostly consisting of mounted heads of animals that he'd hunted in the past and some skulls that you don't dare ask him if they're real or fake
He also has piles of recipe books, ranging from campire food to non-western food, each has strips of labels on some of the pages written "Ingredients affordable", "Derek approved", "Celia approved", "Need modification", et cetera
Weirdly enough, he can identify people based on their steps and breathing alone. He identified Derek and Celia easily when they were waiting behind the office door or approaching him from behind
But the CEO is the one that he couldn't figure out with full certainty because "It's like he shares a body with someone else."
He pats a lot. From Derek and Celia to the CEO, he pats people in the head whenever he met them. That also includes you
Very huggable, but if you're lucky to get his permission to hug him. He's like a walking heater with smell of smoked meat and campfire

One reason and only one as to why this "newer" video to us, shot close to 10 years ago, was tabbed as our second clip for "THE VIDEO OF THE WEEK | SF HALL OF FAME" division during the second installment of our rollout of this new series. And that's the chemistry between Laura, to the left, and possible BFF Natalie, to the right! Rich, unadulterated synergy . . . every time together before the camera -- pure enjoyment as a duo or tandem. Being silly, talking (sometimes nonsense, even gibberish), often drinking a little too much, checking out the newest in fashion in magazines and with samples of the hot new clothes and accessories brought along in an informal Show-and-Tell. And, of course -- above all else -- heavy, intensely pleasurable smoking. And it is usually sharing from the same pack. Mostly Marlboro 100s -- they are each Marlboro 100s Girls -- but sometimes Virginia Slims 120s Luxury Lights (nowadays called "Gold Pack"). Their kinship, affinity and let's face it, their love for each other, platonic or otherwise, their "BFF-ishness," as it were, radiates without interruption. Great friends. Super smoking partners. Outstanding SF models!
. . . and how could we pass this up for Post Number 2 in the growing series. A sensational video! Still, being realistic and reasonable for the most part, we accept the pushback for why this clip, brought to tumblr's SF Content blogs/vlogs/webpages within the past week by Super Star newbie creator/author (contributer, poster, uploader) rtpsmk (formerly rtp-smk) should not be classified as an SF Hall of Fame video. (This is a re-blog of sorts, having first appeared on our platform on another's blog.) If this video is new to us, it MUST be new to many others who favor our brand -- our friends, fans and followers. The only qualities this remarkable SF video does not share with its Hall of Fame colleagues is its longevity on the Greater SF World Community scene and the esteem and reputation for being out there longterm and building a devoted following as a first-rate, top-rate, elite SF video. This scenario has not had a chance to play out. So, OK, that's evidence to disqualify this Laura-Natalie presentation from HofF (HOF) status. But this is our series, we have discretion. OK, will agree it is NOT SF Hall of Fame proper -- or in the traditional sense -- but we say it is of SF Hall of Fame quality, therefore we have included it as such. . . . Our call! We set the tone, you can comment and that can or should shape how the series unfolds to a degree. We brought the ball; we get to make the rules of the game, at least some, if all want to be playing along. Not expecting everyone to agree; know some of you will accept our determination, maybe even implicitly!
They sing Simon & Garfunkel's America (1968), Elton John's Tiny Dancer (1971), Sam Sparro's Black and Gold (2008) and the Spice Girls Wannabe (1996) among other ditties. "We're stuck for songs," Natalie says. "Don't we sing well? We should start a karaoke bar. . . . I think we are done here." ". . . we'll see you next time," Laura says in conclusion. Would-be singers they are not. They are dazzling SF models -- or at least they were once upon a time!

Natalie unfortunately didn't even make Honorable Mention. Natalie is in the Top-50 all-time simply for her work with Laura in their outstanding video series together. Natalie as a standalone could be a Top-50 SF model. Disagree? OK, no doubt Top-100!

The Particulars . . .
Once a week. Two divisions. Calendar week, so our next publishing of it was scheduled to appear as early as Sunday, September 3, 2023. With the next after that -- the third overall -- perhaps as late as Saturday, September 16, 2023. Not every 7 days. Once in a calendar week, which, of course, is 7 days, with the next during the following 7 days, or the next Sunday-through-Saturday traditional week cycle.
First division -- this one! -- the main one, the Hall of Fame (HoF), is reserved for the elite SF videos of all-time. Top-100. There is no list. Second division -- the other of the two -- the secondary one, the Honorable Mention, reserved for "good" SF videos but which contain flaws. These videos could be -- aside from flawed in some way or ways -- brief, poor production values, controversial, quirky, unique, risqué, avant-garde, compelling, ground-breaking, iconic, historic. Different. Not that which would be associated with the Greatest Ever SF Videos tag. Will also feature those newer to the Greater SF World Community, of the Instagram persuasion or from Bigo Live captured for YouTube presentation, as is the case with this week's Honorable Mention post for the VOTW (Ziba,or Ella, from Turkey, already released).
We ask that the series be interactive. If there's a video you'd like to see affiliated with this project/series, give a holler. By tumblr chat or by tumblr e-mail. Both can be effective tools on our platform. No guarantees of immediate processing into the rotation but every consideration will be given to any and all requests. Of that, you can be assured. We do this for our entertainment but we take pride in knowing that so many of you SF buffs out there can appreciate the effort we put into our four blogs/vlogs/webpages. So, we want to connect with you -- some of you -- for your input to make this an interactive collaborative endeavor. We cannot read minds; please reach out with a suggestion. We hope you will enjoy this series. Video of The Day had been suggested but was rejected out of hand. Once a week -- once every 7 days or twice every 13 days if it falls on a posting on a Sunday and the next on the following Saturday, 13 days later -- is much more manageable, we feel.
On August 31, we kicked off the series with the release of THE VIDEO OF THE WEEK | HONORABLE MENTION. Later in the day, we came out with THE VIDEO OF THE WEEK | SF HALL OF FAME. The initial feedback within the first 24 hours was not resounding. As this post in prepared for production, those first two VOTW posts have collected 40 positive response (likes/re-blogs) for the HofF, which featured Skittlez Cano, and 22 for the HM, featuring an unnamed teenager (most likely) from Turkey and was posted two days ago.
Hope you follow THE VIDEOS OF THE WEEK. We're sure you'll enjoy. And if you do not become a fan, it will be your fault to some degree for not seeing it on our brand because no request by you was offered to us. Uea and Red
I don't have a fancy intro for this so lets just get right into it.
Uea is red. We know Uea is red. I know Uea is red. But there is just something about the red on Uea that feels wrong. That I am having trouble wrapping my mind around. Maybe it's just that the color choice doesn't match well with James, but I'm going to choose to analyze it as an intentional part of the show instead, because fuck it, we ball. Because you see, it isn't all of the reds that I have trouble believing, just one specific shade.
So what red do I have a problem with?

There is just something about it that makes it feel...fake? to me.

But, as I said, there are plenty of moments in the show where I wholly accept, understand, and associate Uea with red.
So when do I buy into Uea Anol The Red Rascal?

All this to say that there are times when I completely see Uea as a Red Rascal, but I needed to figure out what it was about the main red that always took me out of that mindset. What was it about the main red that made me feel like it was a lie?
And after reading @respectthepetty's commentary on a previous thread : "Uea wearing a blue shirt in the past could very much symbolize him trying to not be himself." it really got me thinking.
That red is too saturated, too vibrant, too loud for Uea. At least in my opinion. Because while RTP is also correct and Uea "has been shown to be more spontaneous, attention-getting, and dominant" that is really only true when Uea is being sexual. When it comes to sex, Uea is the more dominant person. It is Uea that initiates/asks for the first sexual encounter with King, it is Uea who sets the (truly low bar) rules, at every point of the sexual relationship he has with King, Uea is in control.
But the same can't be said for non-sexual situations. In social situations, in matters of day to day existence, external personality, etc. King is the far more outgoing person. At the office King is the one who gets all the attention, he is more openly flirty. And while Uea gets his share of attention in the office, he does not reciprocate it the way that King does. Uea is quiet, Uea is reserved, and that's doubly the case when Uea is triggered. Unless he is actively re-living the moment, he dissociates or retreats in to himself to process his own emotions. When Uea's mother asks him for tuition in Episode 1 and he starts thinking about all his other stressors, he doesn't say a word, he just returns to the karaoke room and starts drinking:

At the hospital he folds in to himself, he barely puts up a fight, the only time he really even says "No," is when King starts reaching for his own wallet:

When King sniffs his neck the way his stepfather used to, Uea retreats to a hallway to hide. At no point does he offer any explanation (and to be clear he doesn't have to, he's allowed to keep it secret)

Honestly, the only way anyone in Uea's life probably has any indication that Uea is going through so much is from physically witnessing it themselves (King seeing Uea freaking out in the dark, King seeing Uea submissive in front of his mother, Jade protecting Uea from Pock, King rescuing Uea from Pock).
So to have such a bright and vibrant red for Uea feels wrong, it feels like a lie to me. Mostly because Uea's daily personality is more passive and restrained compared to his more open and demanding personality in the bedroom. I believe Uea as a Red Rascal when his reds are darker and muddier (the red-browns) or lighter and more subtle (the pinks). Uea's bright reds make me question his color-coding far more because it is so strong a color. (To be clear here this is not me saying I don't think Uea is strong, just me saying that he is too quiet for the bright reds).
And it got me thinking more about when and where Uea wears the bright red colors and where he doesn't. And it always seems to be in moments of anxiety.
When Uea wears bright red:
At the very beginning of Episode 1 when he is introducing himself to the audience
When he goes with King to get tested for STIs
When he goes home for his birthday.
These are all anxiety inducing moments.
Uea is making a first impression on us the audience, he's trying to gets us to see what he wants us to see. He is trying to convince us that what he is telling us is true. That is ordinary. The literal first words in his opening monologue are:
"I'm just an ordinary salaryman. I'm nothing different to others, but there might be one thing different...I don't like being around people in the office,"
Three minutes later, we get the truth:

Uea may seem like an ordinary salaryman on the outside, but he has been horrifically abused and is struggling with navigating trauma that is far outside what I would call "ordinary". Guess who picks up on the issue? King.
STI testing is the same thing, Uea is worried and King says as much:

And anyone who has seen Episode 4 understands perfectly well the anxiety Uea must be feeling at the prospect of going home. Because well...

And we know one of Uea's coping mechanisms is sex. He can't find the words to talk about his feelings properly so he tries to push them down, and distract himself with pleasure. If we want to look at the bright red as anxiety, Uea usually has something white on as a cover. His anxiety is there but he is trying to hide it.
But at King's he takes that white sweater off, tries to fuck his feelings away, but the anxiety is fresh, he hasn't regulated his emotions enough yet to be convincingly okay, and King #greenflagextraordinaire once again notices Uea is not in an emotionally secure enough place to proceed with sex.

And sure, you can argue that Uea wears these bright reds while he's one on one with King, and there the bright red can't just be anxiety, and we could also argue that every color has positives and negatives and the same could be said for the bright red. And to that I say, sure, but the one on ones with King are as follows: King snaps Uea out of an active trigger, King and Uea discuss starting a friends with benefits situation, Uea shows up to King's apartment on short notice after having a breakdown. None of these moments are what I personally would consider stress free.
Compare that to when Uea wears more muted/subtle reds:
The first time he meets King in a bar, (this is actually the brightest red that he wears that I can actually believe for Uea, and that's because it is a darker red than the other three firetruck red shirts.)
The day after he's shared a moment of connection and trust with King in the hospital after sending his mother home.
When he has forgiven King for accidentally triggering him without King knowing and is ready to re-initiate the FWB.
In the pool with King, when King asks him if he likes the sea and Uea replies "Kind of, but I preferred the calm one,"
Even the red lighting is different, the first red light is brighter and more intense, and that's because Uea is under time pressure to make a decision about whether or not to start the FWB deal with King. In the warmer post-coitus light of the second lighting photo, Uea is incredibly relaxed, almost drowsy, and is being asked to answer honest questions about why he agreed to be FWB. He's not anxious here, he's calm, and as a result Uea and King get to bask in a richer, deeper, less harsh red light. We can interpret the same information from King's sheets, with Uea being happy and relaxed and cuddled by King.
And even when we finally get King in red:

It's still not as bright as Uea's more purely red outfits (ie not the red-browns or the pinks). And naturally because King is still hiding something we've got to trap the brand new red color with all that black.
ANYWAY all of this to say I have figured out what is off-putting to me about the bright red, what makes me feel like it's a lie. IT'S BECAUSE IT IS A LIE!! Or I guess, more accurately, it's an over-compensation. Uea is red, but his trauma and his pain has made that red less vibrant. If respectthepetty is right, and let's be honest the Parent of All Tumblr Color Theory is always right, then Uea wearing blue at home was his way of suppressing his true self.

And if that's the case, then the separation he has from home, because he is no longer living there (since he's still in communication with his mother and therefore cannot fully be separated), has allowed Uea to stop hiding his true self, and embrace the Red Rascal he is. BUT because of his trauma, because his response to trauma seems to be more on the flight and freeze side of things, he is more prone to submission in the face of environmental triggers. When he can no longer simply ignore his mother's text messages, he will try to get his Mom to take a taxi, then give her money, and then resign himself to going to the ATM rather than actually fight her. When he sees his stepfather again, he will run to the dining room rather than engage, he will try to run to the kitchen, when he is stopped he will beg, quietly so as not to make a scene, and then he will run, and run again. (I want to be clear here, Uea does not need to fight, he is doing everything right, and he's doing the best that he can.)
When Uea is faced with high anxiety situations, he needs reminders of who he is. And those reminders need to be bright, and they need to be loud, because they need to be able to break through his initial panic and ground him. So he wears the bright red to tell himself and tell others fundamentally who he is:

And funnily enough, this bright red shirt Uea wears at the end of Ep. 4 is the only bright red shirt so far that doesn't bother me. It seems to fit him better than the other bright reds do and that is probably mostly because the loudness of this shirt is mitigated by the shadows on the front darkening the overall color and back of the shirt being washed out by the light rather than intensified by it. Or possibly because the pattern breaks up the color in a way that doesn't make it even brighter. I feel like the solid white stripes, and the solid white jacket from the examples above make their reds almost neon.
Here though, Uea is drunk and being hit on by a stranger. I don't think our boy is coping very well with the realization that he might be falling for King and so the Anxiety Red comes back. But it's not as In Your Face Bright Red as the others, and that's because he's not in as high stakes of a situation here. It's just hinting to me of potential inner turmoil on Uea's end, and since I haven't read the book I have no idea if Uea is contemplated fucking up a good thing and trying to end it because he doesn't think he is deserving of good things.

@zoyalannister and I are co-authors on AO3, and under our names is the The Last Flowers series, in which we hold back no blows towards Cassandra Clare's truly idiotic plot and characterization in The Last Hours and attempt to write something decent. TLF is comprised of:
Hydrangea, a three-part, Grace-centered minilong which takes place between Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron;
Daisy, a six-part, Cordelia-centered minilong spanning from the Whispering Room scene in Chain of Gold to the end of Chain of Iron;
Chrysanthemum (upcoming), a nine-part fix-it of that trash fire that is Chain of Thorns;
Geranium, an AU stemming from a particular plot point in Hydrangea;
Petals, a collection of missing moments from the series.

Weird as it is to say, there's another reason besides the Legacy Collection to return to BN4. Recently, GreigaMaster of the Rockman EXE Zone forums actually found the Lotto Number code for Z Saber if you can believe it. It's 72794137. Would you mind including that in a future Revisiting the Past update?
I'd heard about that. If I do another RTP vid, we'll see.

Actually to heck with it. Time to post my yume 2kki installation guide.
Well... kind of. I had my brother write these instructions down to send to a few of my friends who wanted to play. The wiki's installation instructions are a nightmare to navigate unfortunately. So me and my brother (mostly my brother) did it for you. Say thank you to my brother. (...Well, not that you can. He doesn't have a tumblr.)
Here it is under a cut!
(Any text written in italics was added by me. Each "figure" is posted below its relevant section.)
This guide assumes that you are using Windows 10. If you are using an earlier version of Windows, or another operating system entirely, I'm sorry but I won't be of much help.
It helps to have WinRAR installed when following this guide.
These are the steps that worked for me. Of course, everyone's machine is different. If you need to tweak the process to get the game working on your machine, use this page for some pointers: [A link the wiki's installation instructions; since it's not SUPER important I have removed it for brevity]
Without further ado…
1: Download the latest original Japanese version of Yume2kki from this page. Do not do anything to the file yet.
(Use the downloaded labeled 'Google Drive (rar, one file)'. For me, this download worked fine.)
2: Download Locale Emulator from this site (copy-paste into your browser):
Extract the zip using WinRAR, and move the contents of the zip to a folder. Be sure you are happy with the location of the folder, because you won't be able to change it's location later.
3: Among the LE (Locale Emulator) files, find "LEInstaller.exe" and follow the installer. (Click on "Install" or "Upgrade" and don't change any settings.
4: Now find "LEGUI.exe" and make sure that everything on that window looks something like Figure 1. Now, when you right-click on an application or a text file, you should see a "Locale Emulator" dropdown menu, and in that menu should be a "Run in Japanese" option.

5: Find the .rar file you downloaded earlier and move it to a location you won't change, where you will extract the contents of the archive. Right-click the archive, and you should see a "Extract files" option. (Should have the WinRAR logo next to it). A window resembling Figure 2 should pop up. Go to the "Advanced" tab, and under Miscellaneous, check the box labeled "Allow potentially incompatible names".

6: Download this file:
7: Extract the contents of the archive and paste everything in the "RTP" folder (contents should resemble Figure 3) into the folder called "ゆめ2っき" (which is where the Yume2kki game files are). If Windows Explorer complains about files with the same name, select "skip these files".

8: In folder "ゆめ2っきver0.118g" (which contains the "ゆめ2っき" folder), find "start.exe", right click it and select "Properties". Under "Compatibility", enable the tick box labeled "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and in the dropdown under, choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)". (Figure 4) Hit "Apply" and then "OK".

Do the same for "RPG_RT.exe" in the "ゆめ2っき" folder.
9: Find "RPG_RT.ini" (Figure 5), open it in Notepad and change
FullPackageFlag=0
to
FullPackageFlag=1
Don't worry if you see any nonsense characters in here.

10: Find "start.exe", right click it, find the Locale Emulator dropdown, and select "Run in Japanese".
11 (ADDENDUM BY ME, KIRA): If you've got windows 11 like me and you can't see the Locale Emulator by default, it should be brought up by clicking this button right here:

That's the Show More Options button. Then it'll pop up the extended rightclick menu.
So... yeah! That's really all there is to it. Hopefully me attempting to add in the various complimentary figures didnt come out too awkwardly, the guide wasn't written with me inserting the complimentary pictures in mind. Happy dreaming!

II. Princess & Conquest
Play If: You like fantasy settings, dungeon crawling, clever writing, and fucking dragons

Have you ever found a game that would literally be perfect if not for the inclusion of just one horrible aspect? That’s how I feel about Princess & Conquest. You play as a chivalrous knight who is tasked with uniting a kingdom on the brink of total war. At a glance, the kingdom seems to be your typical D&D type world, but once you make it out of the tutorial, you’ll find that it more closely resembles a sexed-up version of Adventure Time’s Ooo. Each kingdom is run by a different Princess, and you’ll have to decide who you’ll ally yourself with in order to keep things running smoothly. There are a ton of different endings in this game; each princess has a story you can follow, as do many other side characters. While you don’t have much control over your character’s appearance, you do have plenty of input as to their backstory and stats. There are some light political tactics mechanics that I never bothered to get the grasp of, because I was too busy railing Mouse Princess.
    Once the player does manage to get some succ, it’s possible for your companions to become pregnant. The game features a suspiciously in-depth system for character pregnancy. Princesses have menstrual cycles, and they suffer stat penalties while pregnant. It is kind of neat to be able to add your kids to the party, if you ignore a lot of obvious red flags there. IT IS WORTH MENTIONING THAT THE GAME KNOWS WHO YOUR KIDS AND AND DOES NOT ALLOW FOR HAVING SEX WITH THEM. THANK CHRIST, IT IS ABSOLUTELY TRAGIC THAT I NEED TO BE IMPRESSED BY THAT.
    The art style is adorable most of the time. When it isn’t adorable, it’s kinda hot. Unfortunately, this RPG Maker game does commit the most grievous of sins: It uses some of the RTP assets included with the RPG Maker program. I’m willing to excuse it since the game is still in early access, but it does make a lot of the backgrounds really ugly. If you can look past that – along with the somewhat boring battle system – you’re bound to have a great time.
    Some of my highest praise is for P&C’s replay ability. You have plenty of options for your character’s backstory, but there are also ways to customize a playthrough before it begins. You can randomize where you start, pick a specific kingdom, or just play through the original story. It guarantees that no two playthroughs will be the same. I’d also like to give a special mention to the level up system, which is way better than traditional RPGs where a character has a predetermined stat curve. At the end of the day – yes, the game has a functioning (and customizable) day and night cycle – you and your companions rest by the fire and burn “Candies.” These are the equivalent of souls from Dark Souls. They act as both EXP and currency. Character’s have stats that affect combat, but also stats that affect how open they are to romance and sex.
    Unfortunately, not everything is all cum and roses. The base game features a mechanic called “Sex Fight” that essentially allows enemies to fuck the character you’re playing as if they hit you. THIS FEATURE CAN BE DISABLED BEFORE THE GAME EVEN STARTS THROUGH THE OPTIONS MENU. There are also mechanics that allow for Princesses of razed kingdoms to be sold into sex slavery, or to unload your own offspring into sex work (they fully mature and stuff, so it isn’t pedophilia, but it still feels like something they should not include in the game). LUCKILY, THIS CAN ALSO BE AVOIDED BY SIMPLY NOT ENGAGING WITH THE GOBLIN PRINCESS’S SLAVE MARKET. UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT THINK THERE IS ANY WAY TO REMOVE THIS ASPECT FROM THE GAME ENTIRELY. THIS IS THE MAJOR BLIGHT THAT EXISTS, AND IT SADDENS ME EVERY TIME I REMEMBER THAT I PURCHASED THIS GAME ON STEAM AFTER LIKING MY INITIAL RUN ON MY PIRATED COPY.
Princess & Conquest has a lot to unpack. It has rough edges. But I’ll be damned if the character interactions aren’t fantastic. The art is so stylized, and it’s easy to fall in love with the world’s characters. In general, I give it a 6/10, because good writing can’t save bad combat mechanics and problematic themes. From the lens of an RPG Maker game, I give it an 8/10, because I’ve played way too many bad RPG Maker games. If you’re willing to avoid the problematic content in the game, I definitely suggest at least going through one character’s route. The writing is so fun, and each of the princesses is so unique. Maybe don’t buy it though.
