More Health Issues in Bionicle Headcanons
Zaktan probably had some lung damage from working in an unregulated protodermis mine, though, like the tinnitus, that was healed when he became a swarm of protodites.
The Onu-Matoran on Mata Nui probably have a bit of lung damage too, actually, although theirs is less severe since they probably at least TRIED to follow mining regulations on Mata Nui, although it probably took some time for Whenua to remember them all, since his specialty was the Archives. The lack of the probably more advanced equipment in they had in Metru Nui may have also made these regulations more difficult to apply. Taipu specifically probably has a bit more lung damage than the other Onu-Matoran because he does Onepu’s mining as well, and, being the strongest miner, he’s the most likely to dig through and hit a new, potentially hazardous material first.

Headcanons inspired by @rrbobani’s thoughts about why Earth and Stone are separate elements in Bionicle.
The GSR’s biospheres mimic Spherus Magna’s but not the whole planet. There’d be no ‘planetary’ core; no tectonic plates. Islands and continents probably still emerge as peaks from a protodermis rock layer, but oceans would be relatively shallow, so the rockbed would be too.
Maybe po-matoran and toa of stone and turaga mostly reside above ground because they’re not meant to dig into the underground rock layer. This could destabilize everything resting on it. Or damage part of the dome of their biosphere / the inside of the GSR’s body.
So solid protodermis is only mined from the artificial mountains. And the related societies were programmed to stay above ground.
In this way it could make sense that toa of earth are the ones who dig down depending on the location. At least as long as it’s not completely solid protodermis / it’s earth as it was on Mata Nui. In other places, they might help tend to the flora inside alongside bo-matoran and toa of plantlife and turaga. Or they dig up rare materials that can’t form in solid protodermis.
So how come that toa of earth can theoretically create earthquakes in the GSR? They do so by ‘grabbing’ the rocky / metallic parts. With their power, their element clings so they have a grip.
Related headcanon: Earth elementals will feel very strange on Spherus Magna. Most of them haven’t been in contact with organic earth before.
But even more so, the soil is an even thinner layer compared to the tectonic plates that makes up the continents and the seafloor.

Feeding a town like Meki-Koro is no small task. Thankfully, there are more than enough helping hands in the islands gardens and fields.

For some posts in a friend's discord server, I made my own takes on the various Matoran builds. Figured since I just did a post with the Okotoran build, why not post the rest of them? They're in order of appearance. 01/Mctoran 03/Kolhiitoran 04/Metrutoran 06/Voyatoran 07/Mahritoran 08/Av Matoran

Thinking about Matoran's ages again. Nuju thinks of Whenua as "an old archivist" and presumably assumes Whenua to be older than himself. It's a fairly understandable assumption to make about someone who seems stuck in the past, and physically, there's probably a lot more wear and tear on Whenua's armor than Nuju's.
Whenua, likewise, is probably operating under the assumption that Nuju's fairly young. Between having little interest in history, pristine armor with barely any sign of wear, and despite being renowned for his intellect, he's sometimes outright clueless about how the world works outside of his specific area of expertise, he probably comes across as far younger than Whenua.
I imagine they'd both be shocked if they turned out to be around the same age, or if Whenua was actually much younger than Nuju.

Rahaga Nokama of Ga-Wahi.
Outside of protecting the Matoran under her care from aquatic Rahi, her primary duty is the recovery and translation of records from the sunken Water Sector Universities.
She is often seen in the waters beside the walkways of Ga-Koro with a small entourage of assorted Matoran doing their best to both take notes on her lectures and begin restoration of the materials she brings to the surface. She has invited me to participate a few times, but as Historian, I think I'm better suited to simply write about what records have been found.
It is a very rare sight to see her on land when she is not attending a meeting with the other Rahaga, as her legs degraded into fins after giving up her Toa Energy. But she can be incredibly stubborn about it, once having walked unassisted into Onu-koro to ensure the safe delivery of a relic to the restoration Archives.
One of Rahaga Onewa's projects is attempting to restore and expand the surviving Metru-era aqueducts to key points in the other Wahi to allow Nokama to travel more easily. (Though he keeps claiming that the other Wahi just need multiple supply lines as part of the reconstruction efforts)
She hypothesizes that the primary Rahi attributes that the Hordika Venom has infused her with come from Dermis Turtles and Proto Drakes

Design Motif in Metru Nui Kanohi
Tumblr media
From the Chronicles of a Toa Ankut:
“In the replicas of Kanohi from the period of late Metru Nui, a particular motif can be found, one that is shared by most of the known specimens. It consists of a circular element with a smaller circle inside intersected by an oblong shape. I believe this motif to represent either a piece of additional technology that was integrated into the masks, or a common design pattern that became a leftover from said technology, after it stopped being implemented.
If we inspect the placement of the components that have said motif, it becomes apparent that they are most commonly located once on each side of a mask, near areas where the audio receptors of its wearer would usually be. Furthermore, a replica of Kanohi Ruru from the same period appears to have a similar yet complementary shape, like a negative, located at the mouth section. This leads me to form a theory that those components, in their original form, were responsible for enhancing audio properties of Oropi who wore Kanohi modified this way. Masks containing the convex shape would enhance hearing of their users, while the ones containing the concave shape, like the mentioned Ruru, would enhance their speaking.
The only Kanohi replica that has the hearing enhancement component placed somewhere different than on the sides is that of a Komau, which has a single component located on the top surface. This particular mask is said to depict the version worn by Toa Metru Onewa, who during his time as a Matoran was a Po-Metru carver, so a configuration like this one could have enhanced his awareness of sounds coming from up top, like those of rocks falling down, which would be useful for Onewa's profession.
Similarly, we can compare the Kanohi Ruru from this collection to its alleged historical wearer, Toa Metru Whenua. He, in turn, used to be an Onu-Matoran archivist, known for giving tours around the Great Archives, so a modification that enhanced voice strength would have allowed him to be heard better by the tourists he spoke to.
An interesting observation is that amongst the commonly known replicas representing Kanohi worn by the last Toa Metru in their state as Toa Hordika, only Mahiki Hordika of Toa Matau retains the discussed components from its regular form, unlike Hordika mask worn by Toa Vakama, Onewa and Whenua. If we were to believe the theory that the components could have been merely design leftovers, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that from all the mentioned Toa Metru who had those kind of designs in their Kanohi, only Matau had actual enhancement components and so they retained their form even when the mask underwent Hordika mutations.”

I'm having thoughts, mainly Takua being the Toa Mata's/Nuva' little brother in the sense that when they saw him, they looked forward to seeing him again and wondered if today would be the day they saw him after not seeing him for a few days or a few weeks
Lewa in the tree tops scouting or just swinging around until he spots a Ta-Matoran with a blue mask and decides to pause, scoop him up, and check in before he lets him go on his merry way
Onua sensing SOMETHING in the highway to Onu-Koro/Wahi, and finds Takua without a lightstone and trying to find his way with glowing plants he keeps picking; their light fades out and leave him back in the dark, and Onua found a trail of them that led him to the Chronicler. They both make their way to Onu-Koro/Wahi and Onua tells some good stories on the way to keep Takua from worrying about the dark
Kopaka walking around Ko-Koro above the snow with Takua trudging through the snow, INSISTING he's okay and is doing fine on his own. Kopaka just smirks and keeps a slow pace so Takua’s not left behind, and then carries him when the little guy falls deeper in the snow
Pohatu racing through Po-Koro/Wahi with Takua holding onto him for dear life, but also having the time of his life and, if the two need to stop for the night, sharing tales/stories they picked up on in the day-to-day, like Pohatu telling a story a bet he made with Tahu and won. Takua tells the story of how he got Pewku and managed to convince Jaller to let him keep her, though also had to hide her from Jaller for, like, a week
Tahu finding Takua as he's sightseeing alone for the umpteenth time and first giving him a light scare before making sure the Chronicler doesn't die. While with him, he has to carry him around simply because he doesn't trust Takua's sense of balance. There are "older brother" antagonistic moments of him(Tahu) messing with Takua's mask to prove his point that Takua either needs it abmdjusted or needs a mask that will actually fit him
Gali in the waters of Ga-Koro seeing Takua speaking with Ga-Matoran and just sneaking after him Jaws style until she slips out of the water and... ends up losing him. Not really, though, because he pops out from behind a rock to surprise her, and also as a "gotcha" for trying to surprise him. This is an idea I liked from someone else and just fitting it in: They're both heading to Kini Nui, Gali to meditate and Takua to see if there's anything new to Chronicle. After a while, Gali finds Takua sitting nearby and trying to meditate as well, but is either having trouble sitting still or has just fallen asleep. She just picks him up and holds him as she continues to meditate

The Pit Crew
There were a lot of onu-matoran on mata nui. Like, a lot. Probably more than any other element.
It was inevitable that some of them would become toa eventually.
From left to right: Toa Dosne, Toa Kaj, Toa Mamru, and Toa Akamu

I finally read the bionicle story bible and here's the most interesting things I noted from it (I might be forgetting a thing or two)
while the gba game and the cancelled pc game are brought up multiple times, mnog isn't, at least from what I can tell
nokama, nuju, kotu, hewkii, hafu, and jaller all have different names
the turaga were originally called the kahuna
the noble kanohi were called the mortal kanohi and the hau was one while the huna was a great kanohi (this is not a case of name change as the powers they each have are still the same as they are in the final version)
gali and kopaka are said to be twins, the same is also true for onua and pohatu
tahu and lewa are stated to be besties, while the main tension between the toa as a group comes from tahu and gali, rather than tahu and kopaka in the final story
the toa kaita's domains were swapped
the kanohi were considered masks of wisdom rather than of power
the toa's trials to get them were more intellectual and puzzle based
the turaga in general have different characterization than in the final story, some minor, some major
pohatu is described as "slow" and "sure footed" as opposed to the speedster we know
while not outright stated, the text implies that what will become ga koro was situated on an inland lake, rather than the coastal settlement it will become
likewise, onu koro is coastal and may or may not even be underground
rahi as a term does not seem to apply to all of the island's creatures, rather two specific guardian beasts under makuta, the rahi tori (who will become the muaka), and the rahi kahu (later just the kahu, an ally creature to the matoran)
the manas are considered even separate from that
the tarakava were originally conceived as "boxing gorillas" rather than semi-aquatic reptiles
makuta's final form is described as having three heads, a cobra, a tiger, and a hawk
And two big ones (at least for me)
takua is absolutely nowhere to be found in this document, not even a slight hint at their existence
mata nui awakening and being revealed to be a giant robot that they were all living on was originally only the first part of an even bigger plot twist, that being that Mata Nui was only one of six giant robots that had all crash landed on the planet, and that the other five were still out there, comatose in very different environments (obviously this was clearly meant to be a potential way to continue the story if it did well, as it's been known for some time that bionicle's original story was initially only meant to last for one year)
Overall it was a very intriguing read, interesting to see what changed and what remained the same

The Toa Okoto(In Matoran and Toa forms) The first Toa Team to be formed on the island of Okoto Nui. Like many Teams before them, they don't always get along well, but they do their best to protect Okoto Nui from the threat of the Bone Hunters. Their members are
Okua(Fire) Former 'Turaga' of a small village in Ta-Oko. Though he's confident in leading the functions of a small village, he has difficulties leading a Toa Team.
Lodhu(Air) Member of the Le-Ifo Guard. Over all he is incredibly jovial and friendly, and gets along well with just about everyone on the team. He is Boxor Certified.
Toja(Ice) Excitable and curious, Toja was one of Okoto-Nui's many Chroniclers prior to becoming a Toa. He still makes an effort to keep up with his Chronicler responsibilities as a Toa.
Vikitoo(Stone) Vikitoo is easily the most tempermental of the Toa Okoto, with little patience for the antics of his team mates. He used to be a Courier, specifically operating out of the Muupar Desert of Po-Oko.
Enha(Water) A teacher turned Toa of Water. She specialized in zoology and still gets excited about the Rahi of Okoto Nui. Ironically, she suffers from thalasaphobia.
Arvho(Earth) Arvho worked as a miner in one of Onu-Oko's many mining settlements. He's stubborn and sarcastic, but tries to get along with the others. He was rendered mute by a mining accident. He communicates through a combination of sign language, and using his elemental powers to inscribe writing into the ground. The six were trained by Toa Izewi, when he had the time to train them anyways. The Turaga, Narmoto, Vizuna, Izotor, Nilkuu, Kivoda, and Korgot also provided aid in the Toa Okoto's training.
