New Outlander fanfiction
This will be based on an idea that came to me.
An Alternate Universe...
Part 1
May 20, 2022
James Fraser looked around the crowd of fellow tv reporters and smiled. As a sports news reporter for the Glasgow Globe, it was his job to cover all the major rugby events. As an avid fan who absolutely loved the sport, his job at the Globe was like a dream come true. He followed all the games, both local and international. In the last six years as a news reporter he’d won several Pulitzer awards for his writing. He loved the sport and the players and the fans. Loving his work and integrating with people made his writing even better. His hard work and dedication had led him to where he was today. On a cruise ship with friends and fellow colleagues. News and sports reporters like himself who’d worked hard in gaining their status and achievements. The cruise event was a prize from the major publications enterprise who supported most of their endeavors. He looked about at the bustling crowd and smiled. Most of them were acquaintances, but many he considered friends as well as colleagues.
Jamie was a native of the Scottish highlands, an area known as Broch Turach. He was James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser and was actually Laird of a now derelict castle known as Lallybroch. While he still owned much of the surrounding land, the dwelling itself had been vacant and derelict for years. A fact of life in modern times, it was simply too costly to maintain or repair the structure. He now kept a large flat in Glasgow when he wasn’t traveling for the Globe that is.
“Ooch, now Jamie, are you going to stay here in yer corner like this, or are you coming out to mingle with the rest of us?” Geillis Duncan asked him with a smile.
Jamie smiled back at the petite Scottish woman. Geillis was pretty in an odd sort of way with her light copper hair and big green eyes. There was always something about her that troubled Jamie. She always somehow rubbed him the wrong way. He laughed and shook his head. “Now, Geillis, you know that I like to sit back with my whisky and watch others while they move about. I like observing people. No worries, Geillis, I am fine where I am right now.” He replied in his best formal English in a manner intended just to annoy her. He didn’t trust or like Geillis. He wasn’t sure why. But the woman simply irked him somehow.
Geillis nodded. “Oh, verry well, ya wee Fox cub.” She replied. Jamie was a striking figure with his deep auburn red hair, slavic cheekbones and deep blue eyes that could penetrate your veru soul. Shaking her head, she slowly began moving away from him. Looking back, ske murmured softly, “I’ll be on the deck should you change your mind.”
Jamie nodded and sipped a little bit more of his whisky.

May 20, 1948
Claire stared one more time at Frank as he once more stared her down. She shook her head in defiance. “No. I told you already Frank. You can beg, but I will not marry you. I do not love you, now or ever.” She insisted, glaring at him over the coppery flames coming from the fire in the hearth.
Angered, Frank grabbed her by the arm and violently shook her. “You will! You will obey! I want you and I will bloody well have you! Any way I can get you!” he shouted at her. He moved toward her menacingly …
Claire suddenly cowered in fear. Frank’s family had special powers that dated back to ancient times and heaven knows what he would do to her. She shook her head. “No. I reject you. I do not love you. I will not marry you, Frank.” She persisted.
Frank glowered down at her. He pointed a finger at her. “Then you will pay the price, for all eternity.”
Before Claire could react or even move, she found herself inside a small furnished glass bottle. She was miniaturized and wearing a harem style costume. She could see Frank staring down at her.
Frank smiled wickedly. “That’s right. You are now a genie and as your Master and holder of your bottle, you will obey my every command. You will serve me.” Frank told her.
Claire shook her head in utter despair. “Noooo,” sne began tearfully. “Noooo,” she pleaded.
May 20, 2022
Claire looked at Frank and cried softly. “No, please Frank. I do not want to go back in the bottle while you are away. Please, I beg you, I will behave.”
Frank shook his head. “No. In your bottle you go, you wicked genie.” With a motion, he pointed his finger and smoked her into her bottle. Once she was inside, he quickly capped the top. “And that is where you will stay until I return from my business trip. He laughed. People of the modern world really had no idea that the seemingly quiet Professor from Oxford was actually one the world’s most powerful Jinns. When Claire had refused him, he had simply made her into a genie. As the holder of her bottle, she had to obey his every whim. There was only one other Jinn who was more powerful than Frank. And he suddenly realized with horror as he walked through the halls of Oxford that he was suddenly staring right at him.
“Hadji. What, what are you doing here?” Frank asked him, trying to sound unconcerned by Hadji’s sudden appearance.
Hadji merely glared at Frank. “Doing what I always do by tradition, Frank. Observing the world and our people in relation to all of that.” He replied. He looked at Frank sternly. “I have been watching you for a long time. I don’t like your behavior. You deliberately interfered with a young girl who was from the mortal world. Worse, after making her a genie, you’ve been mistreating her badly.” He told him. “It was bad enough when it all began over fifty years ago. But, it is getting worse. You are really mistreating the girl. Hurting her. And it has to stop. And you will be punished for it. Even we have our rules and guidelines.”
Frank shook his head,  pleading with Hadji. “No, please I will do better. I promise. Give me another chance with her.” Frank begged.
Hadji shook his head. “No. You will be punished.” He pointed his finger and with a single motion, miniaturized Frank into a glass bottle. Hadji quickly capped the bottle and placed it in a large trunk. He quickly locked it and labelled it storage room. He smiled. Frank likely would not be discovered for a long time. Hadji chuckled. As for the girl, he would place her in an area where, when the person finds her there will become the love of her life.

My MC's Information
Wow, this took way too long to make. Anyways, here's some information on my MC, Ajax. Also my friend's MC, Mackenzie, is in this since I just felt like I needed to add her lol.
Template was made by @fandom-scatteredthoughtsonpaper (Here's the blank template btw https://www.tumblr.com/fandom-scatteredthoughtsonpaper/652350312629354496/obey-me-mc-oc-written-template-blank-version) Personal - Basics
[Name] Ajax Ry
[Race/Species] African American
Demon [] Angel [] Human [x] Other: []
[Age] 19
[Birthday] 7/6
[Height] 5’7
[Fingernail Polish Color(s)] Bright pink
[Hair color/description] Messy bleach blonde hair partially pulled up into a high ponytail, part of his bangs pushed behind his left ear. He has a bright pink racoon print streak of hair on the right side of his face.
Personal - In-depth
[Gender or no | Pronoun(s)] Transmasc who uses exclusively he/him pronouns, but wouldn’t be bothered if they/them is used
[Sexual/Romantic Orientation or lack thereof] Gay…literally just gay
[Occupation Before Devildom Life] Typical failing college student
[Favorite Color(s)] Any shade of pink or red
[Personality]  Ajax is pretty chill, but will most definitely cause trouble if he finds the opportunity to. Despite being so helpful to those around him, he doesn’t really help himself and tends to bottle up his emotions. Once he’s grown more comfortable around a person, then he’ll begin showing more of his true self. If he doesn’t want to do something, then he most likely won’t do it. Chaotic neutral and doesn’t like kids at all.
MBTI: INTP
Enneagram: 584
Zodiac: Cancer
Personal - Other
[Likes] Orcas, any and all stuffed animals, cured meats, annoying Lucifer
[Dislikes] Unprompted touching, bright lights, bland things, boring people
[Positive Traits] Chill, creative, open minded, intelligent
[Negative Traits] VERY stubborn and petty, holds grudges, competitive
Relationships
• Fears | Dislikes | Acquaintances | Friends | Close Friends | Crush | Loves | Indifferent | Tolerates | Respects | Suspicious
[With Demons]
Lucifer - Tolerates/loves. Ajax and Lucifer’s relationship is complicated. Since Ajax loves defying him and just doing whatever he pleases, Lucifer doesn’t like him very much. Despite that, he still managed to coerce the demon into a pact, so that has to mean something…right?
Mammon - Loves/dislikes. Ajax and Mammon’s relationship is just confusing. They hate each other, yet simultaneously love each other. The two bicker constantly (mainly because of how Mammon calls Ajax “blondie” instead of his actual name), yet always end up in each other’s beds at the end of the day. It’s a mystery.
Leviathan - Close friends/loves. Ajax and Leviathan’s relationship is your typical friends pining after each other. The two spend most of their time together gaming or watching anime in Levithan’s room. Though, Ajax can’t just hang out with him and not tease him at least a bit.
Satan -  Close friends/loves. Ajax and Satan share many common interests with each other and have probably the least complicated relationship (aside from Beel). Ajax loves raving about classic literature to him and is glad he has someone to talk about it with. They exchange book recommendations and enjoy spending time together. Bonus points for annoying Lucifer.
Asmodeus - Close friends. Ajax and Asmodeus are honestly just really close friends. Ajax has told him that he’s not really his type and Asmo respects that. Despite the rejection, the two are still very close and enjoy doing…just whatever together. Also, Asmo reminds him to take care of himself and is very thankful for that.
Beelzebub - Close friends/small crush. Ajax and Beelzebub are pretty much cured meat buddies. Plus, Ajax finds Beel’s presence calming and enjoyable. No matter what they’re doing together, Ajax just enjoys being around him. There may be a small bit of romance blossoming between the two as well, but who’s to say.
Belphegor - Tolerates/suspicious. Ajax and Belphegor’s relationship is rocky to say the least. Due to how Ajax holds grudges and is a petty bitch, he purposefully placed Belphie’s pact mark on his neck as a constant reminder of what he’s done. He’s still a bit wary that Belphie will change his mind and kill him again, so he tries to keep a good distance between them. The only time he feels somewhat relaxed around him is when taking the occasional nap together.
Diavolo - Loves/respects/friends. Ajax and Diavolo’s relationship is pretty chill. Ajax respects and trusts him (especially after the lunatic pudding incident) which is a pretty big accomplishment. Despite not being close friends, the two enjoy spending time together whenever they can…plus, Ajax enjoys dragging him away from his work just for fun. Ajax usually jokes about becoming Diavolo’s husband and becoming king, but it usually doesn’t go further than that…usually.
Barbatos - Respects/fears. Ajax and Barbatos’ relationship is rocky as well. Mainly because Ajax enjoys dragging Diavolo away from his work, much to Barbatos’ dismay. Despite that, they hold a sort of respect for each other and Ajax appreciates that Barbatos had technically revived him.
[With Angels] (+ my friend’s MC)
Simeon - Close friends/small crush. Ajax and Simeon are way closer than one may assume. Since Simeon is such a good listener, Ajax vents to him sometimes. He can’t help but feel at ease whenever he’s around Simeon, though can’t help but feel like he's hiding something…he’d never ask about that though.
Luke - Tolerates. Ajax and Luke honestly just act like siblings. Sure, Ajax may dislike kids, but he can at least tolerate Luke. Despite all the jabs he throws at the little angel, he at least somewhat cares for him and would take care of him if he absolutely needed to. Plus, he’s like the younger brother he’s never had.
Michael - Indifferent. Ajax and Micheal know little to nothing about each other, mostly because Ajax hasn’t spent time around him at all. Ajax does like to hate on Micheal and constantly throws jabs and insults at him, he knows he would lose miserably in a fight, so he keeps everything he says within reason. Mainly sticking to saying things along the lines of “fuck Micheal.”
Mackenzie- Friends/dislikes. Ajax and Mackenzie’s relationship is yet another love/hate situation. It seems like the only thing they have in common is their dislike of Lucifer, though Mackenzie’s dislike is a lot stronger. The main problem in their relationship comes from Ajax’s constant insults of Micheal, which Mackenzie doesn’t take too kindly to.
[With Humans]
Solomon - Close friends. Ajax and Solomon are pretty decent friends. Ajax enjoys being his little guinea pig for certain potions and such, mainly because of his curious nature. Plus, being the only two humans in the Devildom, it’s only natural that they’d become friends.
Favorite Things About the Devildom
[Favorite Job(s)] The Royal Library, The Fall
[Favorite Place(s) to Hang at] Hell’s Kitchen, Leviathan’s bedroom, planetarium
[Favorite Food(s)] Family pack sushi, instant noodles
[Favorite Class Subject(s)] Demon language, art, Devildom history
[Favorite Devildom Version of Something from the Human World] All stuffed animals, both cursed and normal
Least Favorite Things About the Devildom
[Least Favorite Job(s)] Akuzon, Ristorante Six
[Least Favorite Places to Go] The labyrinth, Lucifer’s office
[Least Favorite Foods] Black coffee of melancholy, unidentified matter
[Disliked Class Subject(s)] Math, potions, Devildom law
[Stuff that Can be Considered a Negative About the Devildom] Having to worry about being eaten by a demon whenever going outside alone

Ryan Edwards is sorry he’s not sorry– basically.
The Teen Mom dad, who has spent the majority of the last couple of years either getting himself into trouble or facing the consequences of his actions–- albeit, lightly–- took to social media over the weekend to let his followers know that he isn’t sorry for his behavior, nor does he plan on changing it.
Ryan revealed this take through his Instagram Story, where he shared a quote from another Instagram user.
“I am no longer apologizing for being me,” the quote read, according to The Sun. “Yes, I’m confrontational. Yes, I’m bluntly honest. Yes, if you disrespect me, I will politely disrespect you.
“I am so sick and tired of molding my personality for the sake of other people’s feelings when they have a disregard for my own,” the statement continued.
Ryan confirming his IDGAF attitude comes less than a month after the father of three was released early from jail, despite Judge Gary Starnes previously ruling that Ryan was to spend the holiday season in the slammer (at least through January 17) after repetitively getting into trouble and not completing court-ordered treatments.
While he didn’t clarify in his Instagram Story if his unapologetic mindset applies exclusively to obeying the law, Ryan has seemingly been keeping this same energy when it comes to parenting.
Earlier this month, Ryan’s estranged wife Mackenzie Edwards told The Ashley that she and Ryan are not on speaking terms at the moment, allegedly due to Ryan’s relationship with girlfriend/partner in (literal) crime Amanda Connor, whom Ryan met while they were both in rehab.
Amanda went on to respond to Mackenzie’s comments in a truly unhinged manner, claiming that she isn’t comfortable with her boo speaking to his ex because Mackenzie “wants more than coparenting” from Ryan.
Amanda also accused Mackenzie of being a “shady a** bitch” (among other things) in her poorly worded and nearly punctuation-free rant.
Ryan’s next court hearing is set for April 23.

Iron 8 (Peter Parker x F!Oc)
A/N: I don't know if anyone got confused, I noticed it late, lol, but the actress that I take as Lily's reference will always be Mackenzie foy, Lily Collins is Jessica. Ok enjoy -Val
Warnings: panic attack, child abuse.
Words: 2, 944
Masterlist:
Chapter 7 / Chapter 9
Tumblr media
"Please, answer,” Jess groans, her phone against her ear and with the emergency number sheet in her other hand.
"Who is it and why do you have my number?" Tony answers.
“Mr. Stark,” She sighs. “Thank God! I'm Jessica, Lily's babysitter,” Tony frowns when he hears the girl.
"What's going on?" He checks the clock in his room, calculating the time difference. It should be one in the morning there.
“I'm not sure, sir— We were sleeping and I heard her screaming. I-I thought she was having a nightmare,” She stops, controlling her breathing. “She was sweating and screaming. I tried to help her, but she ran away and—”
"Okay, you have to breathe. Where’s Lily?"
"She went down to the workshop, J.A.R.V.I.S won't let me in and says that her temperature is very high.”
Tony sighs, since Lily told him about the nightmares, he’d never been around and now he thinks that maybe their argument has something to do with it.
"Okay. Go to the workshop and put me on speaker.”
Jess takes the phone and obeys.
“Done."
"J.A.R.V.I.S, grant access to..."
“Jessica,” She adds.
"Access conceived,” answers the AI.
Jessica opens the door and is about to look for Lily, but Tony's voice stops her.
"Find her, leave the phone near her and get out of there.”
"What? What if she needs medical help?" She says deactivating the speaker. "Sir, something else happened when I tried to touch her, I’m afraid she’s hurt…”
"Trust me, she's not," He answers, seeing another small screen that is holding in his hand, projecting the girl's vital signs. "Do it.”
Tony hears movement. Jess sees the bulge under one of the cars and puts the phone on the ground, activates the speaker, and walks away from her.
"Kid?"
Lily knew Jess had found her, but hearing her father's voice makes her jump. She slowly turns around looking at the phone on the floor.
"Okay, I'm going to pretend you're listening to me,” He sits on the bed. "A nightmare, huh? I thought you hadn't had one for a long time,” He waits a few seconds, but gets no response.
Lily hugs her legs tighter. Tony sighs.
"Kid, come on, tell me something. Shows signs of life. I just want to help you…”
"I hurt her,” She says in a small voice.
"What?"
"I hurt Jess,” She says louder.
"It was not your intention, kid,” Tony answers.
“But I still did. I didn't want to, I'm sorry,” She says between sobs. Tony closes his eyes not knowing what to do. He’s about to call Pepper, but he remembers how stressed she has been since they arrived.
“It wasn't my intention. I didn't want to hurt anyone. It was the same with my mother and she left me. I don't want Jess to leave me,” She continues. She feels a strong pain in her chest.
"She won't go away—”
“You don't know that. She was scared. She has blisters and her hand was all red,” She cries. “I’m a monster!”
“Okay, this is what we’ll do, Lily. Where are you?”
"What?"
"Tell me where you are.”
"Under the blue car,” She frowns.
Tony ignores the fear that runs through his body with the possibility that the car might react badly to the high temperature.
"Get out of there. I need to hear you better.”
"I dont want to go outside…”
“Do what I tell you, please. I know what’s happening to you and it’s better if you get out of there.”
She obeys, grabs the phone with her shaking hands as she leans on one of the car's tires.
"And now?"
“I want you to do exactly what I tell you. Can do it?"
"I don’t know.”
“Yes you can, come on. You’ll breathe with me, it's simple. When I tell you one, inhale, and two, exhale slowly. We’ll do it together.”
"I don’t think that-"
“One," Tony interrupts and inhales making an exaggerated noise so that Lily knows what he's doing. There's no other option but to imitate it. “Two…”
They did so five more times. The pain in the girl's chest subsides and her shoulders relax.
“You're better?"
"Yes," She answers hoarsely.
"Okay. The nightmare. Do you wanna tell me?"
She bites the inside of her cheek and hugs her legs again.
“You'll feel better if you tell me.”
"How do you know?" She frowns.
"It has happened to me.”
"When?"
"When my parents— that's not important,” He checks his watch. He knows that Pepper is about to come in to urge him about dinner, lunch, or whatever they have planned.
Lily sighs.
“I was in a white room,” She says slowly. “I had a straitjacket, like the one they put on crazy people in the movies. No one was coming for me and I tried to scream, but I-I wanted to use my hands, nothing worked… You weren't there to help, or Happy, or Pepper, or Rhodey. I was alone…”
‘Why can’t she have nightmares about normal monsters in her closet…’ Tony thinks.
“Why aren’t you here?" Lily sobs. Tony feels an emptiness in his chest, he’d never felt that way before.
“Maybe you can't see me, Flower. But I’m there. I’m listening to you.”
"But I want to see you. I… I miss you, daddy."
"I miss you too, Flower,” He sighs. “I'm sorry for what I told you before I left. I wish you were here. At least it’d be more fun. I'm sick of hearing people ask me about the suit. One of them asked me why I’d chosen those colors as if they were the worst choice!”
"I chose them!” She answers offended. Tony smiles.
"I know. I like it like that.”
“Well, you could make another one blue. I also like blue,” She comments, looking at the other armor prototypes that are in the back of the workshop.
Tony can't help laughing.
"I'll think about it," He clears his throat. "Do you feel better?"
"Yes, but,” She wipes her nose. "What will happen to Jess? I don't want another babysitter.”
“I'll talk to her, but I can assure you that she’s more concerned about you than she is about herself.”
"Really?"
"She called me.”
Tony's bedroom door opens, but before Pepper can say anything to him, Tony points to the phone, gets out of bed, and walks away from the redhead.
“Dad?"
"Yes, Flower?" He says remarking the words for Pepper to understand. The redhead frowns.
“I'm sorry I yelled at you before you left. I just wanted to spend more time with you…”
"I understand, but you know that we can’t risk it.”
“Okay…”
"Hey, I have to go. Pepper's face is redder than my armor.”
For the first time in all that time, Lily laughs.
"It's fine.”
"See ya ', kiddo.”
"Goodbye, Dad.”
Lily hangs up. She hears footsteps approaching.
"Hi," Jess says sitting across from her.
"I'm sorry I hurt you,” whispers the girl.
"Are you okay?" Jess asks.
"I'm better.”
"Do you want to go up?"
"Won't you go? Aren't you afraid of me?"
"Why would I be afraid of my friend?”
"I hurt you.”
"It was not on purpose.”
“B-but it's not normal. You only touched me…”
“Yes, it’s rare, but it’s still an accident. I'm not going anywhere, Lily.”
Lily still doesn't understand why Jess is so calm, but she's too tired to keep asking. She just nods.
"Do you want to go up?" She asks, offering her good hand.
They both go back up to Lily's room.
"Can you sleep with me?" The girl asks.
“Sure."
They prepare the bed, but a call on Jess's cell phone interrupts. Mr. Stark.
"I'll be right back…”
Jess leaves the room and walks as far away as possible.
"Should I ask the same as the girl?”
"How is it possible that such a little girl suffers so much?"
“I'm not sure yet, but it has happened before. Now, do I have to hire another babysitter?"
"Will you tell me what’s wrong with her?"
"What would you do with that information?" Jess rolls her eyes.
"I just want to help her.”
Tony sighs.
"She was born with something strange and bad people wanted to take advantage of it.”
“So what she dreamed… It is a memory?"
"Did you hear it?"
“She screamed before she woke up. She begged not to be hurt.”
"Yes, they’re memories.”
Jess bites her lower lip. She turns over her shoulder to make sure Lily isn't listening.
"I have a theory.”
"I don't have much time, speak up.”
“Miss Potts warned me a bit about the nightmares, but I understand that they hadn't happened for a long time. Did you and Lily argue at other times before?”
"I don’t think so.”
“Don’t you think that the nightmares return when she doesn't feel the security that you give her? By not being home and knowing that you’re upset. They also told me that her mother abandoned her, fear makes her memories return.”
Tony doesn't respond for a few seconds.
"What degree are you studying?"
“Psychology."
Makes sense. I don't know, Miss Adams. But I’ll take it into account.”
“Okay, sir.”
***
After Mr. Stark explained a bit about what really happened, Jess felt scared, but not for her. The brunette had witnessed the very agony in the body of a little girl. She’s never lied by saying that she just wants to help her. She’ll never abandon Lily.
"Do you want to see a movie?" She asks from across the kitchen table.
"I have to do homework,” replies Lily scratching her eye wearily.
"I think you deserve a break.”
“Maybe…”
"Mr. Stark is in the news," reports J.A.R.V.I.S.
They both know what it means. Scandal. They run into the living room and turn on the television.
"Oh no…” says Lily.
She doesn't know what surprises her the most, her father driving a race car or the man with two energy whips trying to hurt him. Although her father got the Iron Man armor in time and was able to contain the villain, Lily knows that something else is going on and the comments from others don’t help. They all allude to Tony's opinión that the new technology that he invented no one else would have for a long time, and now an unknown man has succeeded.
***
Lily turns when someone knocks on her bedroom door. She smiles when she sees the colonel.
"Uncle Rhodey!" She squeals and runs to hug him. The man receives the hug with a smile.
"I hope you always receive me like this, Lily.”
"I can do it,” She replies as they part.
Rhodes sees the room now painted sky blue, some paintings as decoration, with each color and furniture it’s quite obvious that Lily was the one who chose everything, especially noting the vibrant colors that don’t match the rest.
"I like what you did with your room.”
"Thanks. Look!” She takes his hand and leads him to her desk. "I found a video of how to make the Iron Man reactor shape out of cardboard," She explains, pointing to the process.
Rhodes laughs heartily. It’s not the most accurate model in the world, but it is really impressive that Lily is already so detailed in her creations.
"Will you give it to Tony on his birthday?"
She nods. "Do you think he’ll like it?"
"I'm sure. This is pretty good,” He agrees. "How are you doing in school?"
"Good. It's kind of boring, but my teachers seem to have fun when I understand things quickly,” She shrugs.
"You should be happy too.”
"I guess, but… I don't know."
Rhodes frowns.
"I know that face, it's the same as Tony does. What's wrong?"
She turns to face him.
“I want to do more things, but everyone says I can't. Everything is dangerous or someone else can see me. I feel like those dolls trapped in a toy house.”
Rhodes sighs.
"I wish I could have a better answer,” He crouches down to look at her. “But all I can tell you is that it’ll be better once you’re older. I'm sure we'll have better options,” Lily seems disappointed with his words. The man makes a face. Then he comes up with something. “How about I talk to your father to start a little self-defense class? Do you remember the movies we saw?"
"That would be great!" She says smiling.
For James Rhodes, this made sense. He knows that Lily is still very young, but he also knows that Tony's world is very unpredictable, especially with what happened in Monaco. It would be a great opportunity for her to at least know how to defend herself.
"Well, I'll talk to him,” He says getting up.
“Oh, tell him that Natalie can teach me something! She promised!”
He looks at her confused, but doesn't take it too seriously.
“Okay… Do you know where your father is?"
"In the workshop, I'll take you,” She takes Rhodes's hand and they both walk towards the stairs of the workshop, but a corridor before Jarvis interrupts.
"Incoming call for Miss Stark.”
"Kid, I need you to do me a favor,” Tony’s voice says.
"What's going on?" She asks releasing Rhodes's hand.
"Do you remember the little screen I have to play with?" Although the last use of it was to infiltrate Senate screens, she usually uses it to play games.
“Aha..”
“It’s in my room. I want you to bring it.”
"Why don't you go get it?" Rhodes intervenes, annoyed.
"I'm busy— Wait, how long have you been here, Rhodey?"
"We need to talk.”
“I don't like that tone. Kid?"
"I'm coming!”
The girl goes to look for the screen while Rhodey follows the path to the workshop, ignoring Natalie's warning when he passes by the room where she’s with Pepper.
Rhodes walks into the shop, finding Tony looking at his projector for some files on him while he's sitting in one of his cars.
“Tony, you gotta get upstairs and get on top of this situation right now. And what’s that about, sending Lily to look for your toys?"
Tony doesn't respond, further exasperating the colonel.
“Listen. I've been on the puts with the National Guard on the day, trying to talk them out of rolling tanks up the PCH, knocking down your front door and taking these,” He says, pointing to the other armor prototypes. “They’re gonna take your suits, Tony. Okay? They’re sick of the games. You said nobody else would possess this technology for 20 years. Well, guess what? Somebody else had it yesterday.”
He walks towards him.
“It’s not theoretical anymore. And now can you imagine how all this would affect Lily? If the National Guard or anyone else in the government finds out about her, they’ll take her away without hesitation and they’ll all be against you. All this time you've kept her locked up, but you don't mind acting in a way that could affect her in the future.”
He stops at the side of the car.
“Are you listening to me?" He grabs his arm to get his attention. Tony is pale and tired. "Are you Okay?"
"Let's go,” answers Tony getting out of the car, but when he closes the door, he loses strength and almost falls to the ground. Rhodes helps him by holding him up.
"You all right?" He asks worried.
"Yeah, I should get to my desk,” They both walk with difficulty. "See that cigar box?" Rhodes nods. "It's palladium,” The colonel puts him on a chair and opens the box, revealing small blocks of material.
Tony pulls the reactor out of his chest and opens it, causing a block of Palladium to come out with some smoke.
"Is that supposed to be smoking?"
“If you must know, it's neutron damage. It's from the reactor wall,” explains Tony. Rhodes helps him switch blocks.
"You had this in your body?" Tony turns around. "And how about the high-tech crossword puzzle on your neck?" He points out.
"Road rash,” Tony puts the reactor back on as Rhodey watches him. "What are you looking at?"
"I'm looking at you. You wanna do this whole lone gunslinger act and it's unnecessary. You don’t have to do this alone.”
“You know, I wish I could believe that. I really do. But you've gotta trust me. Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I'm doing."
"And what about Lily?" Rhodes asks. "Are you also hiding all this from her or what excuse do you give her?" He says thinking that Lily notices many details, especially about her father.
“Makeup isn't just for women, Rhodes. Update yourself, and she doesn't know about the Palladium, she doesn't need to know.”
"Will you hide everything she shouldn't know from her?"
“It's called protection. Something that you’ve asked me to do for her many times.”
"I don't think that lying is the solution.”
Tony rolls his eyes.
"Miss Stark is coming, sir," Jarvis warns.
Rhodes now understands Tony's request for the toy.
Someone enters the code to enter. Both men are silent. Tony hides the cigar box. Lily runs up to him and gives him the screen.
“Your room is messier than mine. It took me centuries to find it,” She complains.
"Thanks, kid.”
Lily watches Rhodes.
"What were you talking about?" She says tilting her head a little towards the colonel. Rhodey remembers his promise. He smiles.
"We haven't talked about your stuff yet, Lily.”
"What did I miss?" Tony asks.
"I think it's a good idea for Lily to take self-defense classes."
"With Natalie,” adds the girl.
Tony sighs.

Maids to Wives
An Outlander AU based loosely on the TV Show and real life in the historic Jamestown
In 1619, one hundred and forty-four English women from good families crossed the Atlantic in response to the Virginia Company of London’s call for maids “young and corrupt” to make wives for the planters of it’s new colony in Virginia. One in six of the maids could even claim gentry status. Although promised a free choice of husband, they were in effect being traded into marriage for a bride price of 150 pounds of best leaf tobacco, the profits to flow to individual investors
In 1619, Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp made the voyage to do one thing: marry a man she's never met. But when she arrives, she comes to the startling realization that her heart belongs to someone else, a certain James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser.
Chapter 1/? : Aboard The Ship
April 17th, 1619, Claire’s POV
“I feel like my innards are swasheling ‘bout” Geillis hacked out her dinner for the 4th time this week. I tried my best to soothe her, rubbing her shoulders lightly, but the smell of old fish and stomach acid from the other’s puking made it hard to keep anything down. Most of us hadn't been on a boat before, let alone in the middle of the ocean where the monstrous waves led to monstrous waves of sea sickness. It took all my strength not to succumb to the churn in my own stomach. Poor Geillis didn't have the same strength as I.
Geillis was one of the first women I met on this voyage. Me and her bonded over our love of herbs and our older age. She has become one of my closest friends on this trek to find my future husband.
My Husband. The word had only rolled off my tongue a few times in my life, but suddenly it was my entire world. It was all the ladies talked about, all they thought of,  all they could remember dreaming about. But, the rest of the women on the ship were different from me, and from Geillis too: they were young, and they were trained. Geillis and I were the eldest of all the brides -she being 31 and I being 27- and didn’t receive the same education as the rest of the girls. I myself spent my childhood traveling Europe with my Uncle Lamb, not learning how to be a good wife that could keep house. Perhaps if my parents hadn’t died when I was so young they could have instilled the passion for housekeeping in me, but a childhood under my Uncle’s influence assuredly led to the demise of any interest in such things. He even tried to enroll me in a dame school, but I refused. Can you imagine? Years of learning how to sew and knit and cook. I couldn’t think of a more revolting thing. I had longed to continue to travel with Uncle Lamb, as his career as an antiquarian required him to do, and so he had no choice but to keep me by his side. I imagine him beside me now, as if this voyage was just like any other: exploring new lands with curiosity and excitement.
As Geillis continued to empty her stomach, I scanned the cabin, seeing some of the younger girls on the ship playing a card game. Their eyes lit a bright light inside of them when they got a good hand, and their smiles sparkled like pearls in the faint lantern light. Despite the ship muck they resided in, they still radiated beauty and grace. That and their training would make them excellent wives.
Perhaps I should have let Uncle Lamb enroll me in that Dame school, I thought as I turned back to check on Geillis. Even though I got to choose the man I married, there was no guarantee that my husband would keep me when he found out how many skills I lacked. But no man could be so cruel, could he? While it made no sense to wish for a kind husband, I still did, as did all the women. I could only hope that my husband would be caring, smart, and understanding (and have a face and body with equally desirable qualities, but both together was the most rare of all).
A tug on Geillis’s hair called me back to reality. It seemed the sickness had faded for a moment or two, enough for her to speak. “Claire, I swear to ye, if I don’t make it on this ship, bury me in the new world. I dinna care if my flesh sticks up the whole bloody ship, I wilna be thrown to the sea, like a bone to a dog”
“You’re not gonna die Geillis, it’s only 3 more weeks till the captains said we'll see land. If you die on this ship, I swear to you I’ll kill you” My remark managed to stifle a chuckle from Geillis’s sickly body. She smiled at me, and then her moment of peace was over: she went back to being sick almost immediately. I never found myself in the comfort of women, but Geillis was like a sister to me. Spending a month at sea in tight quarters did that to a friendship.
Geillis wasn’t the only friend I made on the ship. To my left sat 15 year old Mary Hawkins, the youngest of the maids. Mary was just… small. A small frame and small face were the most startling of her features, and the month on the ship caused an almost deadly thinning of her figure. When she spoke, the words came in small stutters, and any movement made her jump. When I first saw her I wondered how Mary could have thought she could survive the trek across the ocean; that was, until I found out being a maid was her father’s scheme. After finding this out, a sisterly urge surged inside me, and I was her protector on the voyage ever since. And as her protector, I saw her shivering as I helped Geillis, and moved my arm from Geillis’s back to around Mary’s shoulders.  She gladly nestled herself into my side, but the shaking didn’t stop.
“A-am I going to die here, C-Claire?” She stuttered out. I quickly shook my head and turned to look down at her. I saw tears running down her face, but she didn’t look me in the eyes. She kept her gaze on the wall across from us, where a woman who looked the most sick of all rested her head. She didn’t look alive anymore, but with closer examination I saw her chest rose ever so slightly. I made a mental note to check on her later, if she hadn’t already died. So far, 34 women have died. While the cause of death varied from maid to maid, it was all from the same sickness that plagued our ship since the beginning of the second week aboard. Not all the women were victims, but the ones that were died swiftly and in immense pain. But, for every maid that died here, the same amount of men were left without a bride, and that would mean another wave of maids. I couldn’t imagine putting more girls through this hell. I was fortunate to be well, and above all else, alive.
“No, you’re not. You’re gonna leave the ship with us and meet your husband.” I rubbed Mary’s shoulders gently. I felt her breath loosen, and she slumped slightly. Good, I thought. She fell asleep
I then stayed with Geillis until her nausea faded. After cleaning her up using my dress as a rag, I laid her down and watched her drift to sleep. I touched my hand to her forehead, and was thankful for not feeling any unusual temperature. I removed my arm from Mary’s shoulders, and slowly set her down near Geillis’ head. I tucked a small bag of grain beneath both of their heads, and thankfully none of them awoke from their slumber. I looked across the cabin and saw the pale woman from before. She hadn’t changed positions, but her chest still rose and fell like before. I moved in front of her, and placed my hand on her forehead. Hot. Burning hot. I shook her awake, and when she opened her eyes, they were bloodshot.
“Will... you tell my husband that I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make it” The sentence flowed out like any other statement, but the meaning behind it was darker.. She was a young woman, nearly 23 I guessed. Her hair was a soft blonde, and she had a pleasing aura about her. I could also tell she was quite pretty, underneath the sweat and sickness. Her hair stuck around her face, but she had the complexion of a sheet of paper. She was transparent, the veins of her body stuck out harshly against her pale face. When she spoke, it came out in a low whisper, as if her body didn’t have the willpower to use any strength.
“I’m Faith” She flashed a quick but weak attempt at a smile. I wished there was something I could do, to give her the strength that had saved me these past weeks. I reached beside her to grab a rag, in hopes of maybe wiping away the heat, but she put her hands over mine.
“Make the new world good for us” She spoke, before closing her eyes. Everything happened so suddenly, I could barely register it all. The minute she closed her eyes, any color that was left in her face disappeared. The rising of her chest stopped, and a hand fell limply from mine.
I removed myself immediately, and sat next to Geillis. She stirred in her sleep before sitting up, tired. She must’ve heard what had happened, because just as I sat down she put her arm around mine. I wanted to cry, to feel some kind of pity for the woman, but nothing came out. ‘You should mourn her’ my brain told me but how could I? I just met her.
I didn’t have time to be like this. In a few short weeks we would be on the island with the men, living in the new world. Instead of feeling pity, I felt a sense of guilt. Out of nearly 100 women, only a few would step off this ship and into a new life. And I was one of them. Why did I get the luxury? I wasn’t ever a quiet, obeying miss, and I don’t think I could ever be. Why did god and those above think me fit to take on the responsibility of marriage? Faith would’ve probably made a fantastic wife, but here she lies dead by my feet and I am still breathing.
These thoughts ran rampant in my mind, so much so they exhausted me, and I felt myself roused into a deep slumber, with Geillis’ arm still around me and the soft breathing of the living filling my ears, reminding me I was still alive, that we all were. We bore the weight and responsibility of those who didn’t live, it was our job to make the new world good and prosperous.

who: Mack and her dad :) when: Monday 13th dec. where: The Thomas family room what: after a successful heist with Charlie and Hope, Mack asks her father about some things in Bellas file.
A runaway.
A fucking runaway.
Why- why would Bella’s file even say that?
Marabella Thomas- Determined runaway. Case closed.
The image of those words on the paper is burnt into the front of her mind. All she can focus on, like if she keeps repeating them, they’ll make sense somehow.
They don’t make sense. Where would Bella go? Why would Bella go? What was she doing? Why didn’t she ever mention it?
Did she really hate Gravewood that much, and how did Mack miss it? Mack used to think she knew her sister, but maybe she didn’t know a thing about her. Is the Bella she loves someone that never existed at all?
She needs to tell her parents. And that's what she intends to do, as she stands in front of her fathers recliner, hoping for just a second he’ll pay attention to real life. Its important.
“Mackenzie. I’m trying to watch- get out of the way.” It doesn’t come out as the question it should- much closer to an order, and Mack finds herself obeying it out of habit.
“Can you just-” She sighs, “Just, listen, okay?”
A grunt is close enough to a yes.
“Bella- Did you know Bella ran away, not went missing?” The words get strangled in her throat, and she struggles to get them out without her voice cracking. Its hard to tell your family everything you believed was wrong.
As much energy as it took her to get that out, her Dad matches in the complete direction, shoulders barely moving into a shrug- and she doesn’t even know if he’s heard the words.
Sometimes he does tune her out. Its like being present in the world is too much to take, so he chooses not to be. Some days, its really tempting for Mack to join him in it.
Hitting the remote, the silence that fills the room is deafening. The kind of shock that has Daniel’s eyes meeting hers, filled with annoyance and confusion.
“Bella was a runaway. She didn’t get taken- she chose to leave.”
His eyes flick away, the remote being snatched away, “I know that.”
Tumblr media
Just-- what? Mack’s eyes scrunch closed in confusion for a moment, processing his simple words. It only adds to her confusion, because all she has is questions, and no one to answer.
“You knew she was a runaway?”
“Are we going to play 20 questions all night Mackenzie? Because I’m watching-” Her eyes follow his to the TV, “the Dust Buster 5000.”
A fucking infomercial. That’s more important than her? Somehow, constantly, her parents seem to surprise her. Even when the bar is on the ground, they dig a damn hole.
“You’re so checked out this doesn’t even phase you, does it?” She’s angry- angrier than she’s been in a while, because she’s tired of this. Shes tired of pretending this is all okay when her heart wont stop aching.
She just wants to know where Bella is. She needs Bella. Bella wouldn’t have meant to run away from her.
“Hello? Earth to Dad- its your daughter, trying to have an actual fucking conversation for once!” Her anger overtakes the sentence, and it grows with the lack of response.
Tumblr media
It reminds her of when she was a kid. Her parents used to ignore her until she’d settled down, some emotion management technique a quack doctor gave them. It had never worked. She hated every second of not being listened to- giving her the drive to make sure she was always listened to, give a voice to others, because if being ignored at home sucked this much, then what was it like being ignored by the world?
And just like she was when she was a kid, she lashes out. Foot colliding with the side of the armchair, she just wants to let out some of the frustration. “Can you just fucking answer? For one minute? Tell me how you knew she was a runaway. Why would she just leave us?”
Mack wanted to know why she’d leave her.
“She didn’t want to be here. She could’ve chosen to stay, but she wanted to leave that badly.” It’s tossed out carelessly, like her Dad has no idea what a grenade it is, “She didn’t care about us enough to make staying work.”
As soon as those words settle into the room, Mack knows she’ll never forget them again. Bella didn’t care- Bella didn’t want to stay. She could’ve- according to her dad, but she didn’t. Her family, her life, Mack herself- wasn’t as important as getting out of Gravewood.
Bella wanted to leave her.

When A Scot Ties the Knot. By Tessa Dare. New York: Avon Books, 2015.
Rating: 3/5 stars
Genre: historical romance
Part of a Series? Yes, Castles Ever After #3
Summary: On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shyly pretty and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart. A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter … and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely. Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep—handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He’s wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters… and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.
***Full review under the cut.***
Content Warnings: graphic sexual content, blood, violence
Overview: I came across this book while doing research for a blog post on Scottish fetishization in romance. While writing the post, I encountered YouTuber Jean Bookishthoughts’s video “ An Actual Scot Reads Highlander Romances,” and she gave this novel a fairly positive review. So I decided “why not? I’ve got nothing better to do.” Overall, the premise of this book was really enticing - the idea of a woman writing letters to a fictional sweetheart only to have a flesh-and-blood man show up at her door is quite the setup. I also think Dare does a good job of writing humor and moving the narrative along. But I ultimately couldn’t give this book more than 3 stars for a number of reasons: for one, the main crux of the plot felt like it could have been a bit more robust. Two, I didn’t find Logan to be a very interesting character. And three, some of the random “Highlander” references felt cheesy.
Writing: Dare writes prose that is quick, witty, and humorous. I very much enjoyed the jokes and the banter between our protagonists, and I appreciated that Dare didn’t get bogged down in some of the details of day-to-day life. If I had any criticisms, it would be that I think Dare moves almost too quickly at times. Some of the more emotional moments could have used some room to breathe or some more description of how the characters’ emotions are faring. But it wasn’t so bad that I felt like I was being rushed through the novel. Another way of putting is may be that sometimes Dare told where she could have shown, but the balance of telling vs showing didn’t feel egregiously off.
Plot: This plot mainly follows our heroine, Maddie, and our hero, Logan, as they try to work out an agreement. Maddie, in the attempt to avoid going on the marriage mart, invented a sweetheart at age 16 and wrote letters to a “fictional” Scottish captain in the army for years. Unbeknownst to her, the letters were actually being received by Logan, and when he and his men come home from the war, Logan is determined to marry Maddie in order to get her land in Invernesshire.
Personally, I found this setup to be quite intriguing and whimsical. I liked the embarrassment that arose from Maddie’s letters actually being received and read. I liked that Logan secretly looked forward to the letters from a stranger. I even liked the dilemma of negotiating a marriage of convenience. But I think where this plot fell apart for me was the whole challenge of consummating the marriage. Logan and Maddie agree to marry and live separate lives (it’s early on, so this isn’t really a spoiler), but Logan is adamant about consummating the marriage so that there’s no possibility of an annulment. Maddie, for her part, wants to avoid consummating the marriage because she finds that marriage will threaten her career prospects; as an illustrator, she finds that men will not hire her for work if they think household or parenting duties will interrupt her work schedule. To be completely honest, this challenge was quite good; I thought there was a real opportunity here for Dare to explore the sexist challenges women face in the workplace. Where I thought the challenge was weak was in the whole obsession with consummation. Unless there was such hostility between the Scottish and the English that an Englishwoman’s word would always be taken over a Scotsman’s, I found the question of “did they actually have sex or not” to be quite trivial. From what I know, annulments were notoriously difficult to obtain, so it wouldn’t matter much if Maddie and Logan had consummated the marriage. It seems like Logan could just say they did and an annulment would be near impossible. Nor do I think the law would care much if they only had non-penetrative sex. It seems like the whole plot hinging on whether or not they had “real sex” was a non-issue for me.
Instead, I would have liked to see more conflict in Maddie between balancing her desires for romance and a family with her career aspirations. Once Logan enters the picture, it seems like her career takes a backseat (except for a couple of scenes), and I would have rather seen it be more front and center. Either that or I think Maddie’s story could have mirrored her aunt’s more closely. Maddie’s Aunt Thea was long ago caught up in a scandal that ruined her, but later, Thea reveals that she had enjoyed the freedom. I think having Maddie be independent and struggle with the idea of being “tied down” by marriage could have also been good, and while there’s a little of that, I think it could have been more apparent to the reader.
In terms of small-scale narrative points, I think a lot of the scenes Dare writes are very funny and entertaining. I liked, for instance, the scene where Maddie falls into a bog, or when Maddie shows kindness to Logan’s friend, Grant. The scenes that truly did bother me, however, were some of the more “fluffy” ones that were a bit too cheesy for my tastes. For example, there’s a scene in which Maddie finds Logan reading Pride and Prejudice and he’s wearing spectacles. She makes a big deal about him being a reader and I had to roll my eyes. There’s also a scene towards the end in which Maddie attempts to make haggis, and I hated it because it felt like it was inserted so Dare could check off a “Scottishism” in a list. Tartan? Check. Brogue? Check. Haggis? Check. The scene also erupted in random violence, too, which felt out-of-place and inserted for pointless drama towards the end of the novel.
But I will admit, I did like the scenes that were very self-aware about what Dare was doing. For example, there’s a scene in which Logan is debating about what to do to get Maddie into bed. His friends give him suggestions like “offer your heart to her on a platter” or “throw in a lot of oochs and bonny lasses when you speak” or “dive into the loch and have her go looking for you. Then, when she’s found you, pretend you don’t notice her and have her watch you bathe for a while. Then emerge from the lock all dripping wet.” This self-awareness was a nice stab at romance cliches, though I wish Dare had done a better job herself at avoiding them.
Characters: Maddie, our heroine, is fairly likeable in that she’s bookish, generous, and a bit clumsy at times. I liked that there was a juxtaposition between her confidence and her social anxiety: while she wasn’t afraid to assert herself in some situations, big crowds made her nervous, and I think navigating those two scenarios made for some interesting characterization. The main thing I didn’t like about Maddie was how quickly she seemed to give up her career ambitions for Logan. There’s a point where she has to make a choice between letting Logan go and following her dreams, and she claims that she’s choosing Logan even though the choice is really made for her based on sexist norms of the day. I would have liked to see her wrestle with her ambitions a little more.
Logan, our hero, has some admirable qualities, but in the end, I found him rather uninteresting. He’s your basic roguish Scotsman with a tragic past, and though I liked the loyalty he showed to his men, I ultimately though he was a little too jealous and a little too used to his orders being obeyed. I would have liked to see him be a little less dictatorial so that his romantic appeal would shine through a bit more brightly.
Side characters are charming but, in my opinion, underutilized. I liked all of Logan’s army buddies and appreciated that all of them had disabilities in some way (and those disabilities were important but didn’t define them). I really appreciated Maddie’s relationship with Grant, the soldier whose memory resets every hour or so. She was kind to him and he was sweet to her; I just didn’t think his random violent outburst towards the end was necessary or in-character. Maddie’s Aunt Thea could have also been used more effectively, but I did like that Thea had this quirk of making a lot of cosmetics and remedies that were, ultimately, rubbish. It was charming.
Romance: Logan and Maddie’s romance was... ok. The premise started out really interesting, but over time, I lost some enthusiasm because I felt like I was being told that they had feelings for each other (rather than being shown). Sure, Logan does some things that challenge Maddie’s assumptions and vice versa, but I wanted them to have a stronger basis for a romance than just “they’re hot and I’m horny oh wait they were nice to me and aren’t exactly what I expected.” Part of the reason I wasn’t super enthused might also be the focus on sex and sexual attraction as well as Maddie feeling pity for Logan on account of his past. I prefer romances where the focus is on each person lifting the other up emotionally, and while there was a little of that, I think I would have liked to see it be more of a centerpiece within the plot.
TL;DR: When a Scot Ties the Knot is a funny, light, historical romance, but ultimately doesn’t have a “meaty” enough plot for my personal tastes. Some readers might enjoy the banter and the heroine’s determination, while others might be turned off by the cheesiness and lack of a complex hero.

AWAE 3x2 rewatch: thoughts and reaction
This is dedicated to the one and only Lucas Jade Zumann, who turns 20 today. Now, without further ado, let’s dive right into this episode.
When did Marilla become what TVtropes calls an Amazingly Embarrassing Parent? I mean, it was a matter of time, now that she’s a full-on mother to Anne. And Gilbert’s reactions are everything. Everything, I tell you.
How wonderful - Anne is going to town to learn about her past. I love how they incorporated this into her story in the series, it’s, as Anne herself would say, so much more ‘romantical’ than what the books gave her as a backstory. Also, there’s something about train rides that I love so much... maybe it’s because I don’t get to ride on a train very often, so it’s exciting for me... but let’s turn our attention away from me and back to Shirbert on the train again.
‘Yes, I’ve taken notice of that.’ Wow, the wording. I bet he’s taken notice of something else, too. But with how Anne is treating him, Gilbert doesn’t seem in a hurry to confess any feelings just yet. Plus he seems not to know how... this is so perfect yet so frustrating at the same time.
Matthew’s awkwardness around women warms my heart. He’s just such a precious cinnamon roll and that’s that on that.
This ride makes it, once again, so clear just how similar Anne and Miss Stacy are. True kindred spirits. Her incessant talking and unquenchable excitement over everything, combined with Matthew’s awkward struggle to find words, remind me so much of Anne’s first ride to Green Gables.
Mary’s happiness over seeing her son, and his own cheerfulness compared to the last time we saw him are just everything. Everything - I’ve got a feeling I’ll be using this word a lot in this post. This episode is just that good, at least so far. I’ve allowed myself enough time and distance to forget what happens in it (or at least the details, I do remember some major stuff), so I can experience it almost as if for the first time. I love that about rewatches.
Elijah is thinking about staying - what a lovely family they could be. But he’s quite... wary of Delphine, as if he’s jealous of the family his mother has built herself in his absence. I don’t really know the feeling, but I can tell it’s a horrid one.
But look who it is - the man himself, Cole Mackenzie! I’ve been so excited to see him again, and now here he is, in flesh and blood. His friendship with Anne is just... you guessed it - everything!
I am so beyond happy to hear Cole talking excitedly about his new school and new friends, and his happy new life. This guy deserves the world - and he’s getting increasingly large portions of it now. So brilliant.
I see we’re being introduced to Winifred Rose here. She certainly seemed like a potential kindred spirit in her introducing scene - too bad her and Anne’s relationship to Gilbert wouldn’t allow this to happen. But who knows - maybe someday in the future... #renewannewithane
May I just say how much I agree with Miss Stacy on the matter of choosing to be single. No one should be forcing you to find a partner if that’s not what you want. I remember coming out to my high school ‘friends’ as aroace. Their immediate reaction was to try and find me a boy. Some people just don’t understand that not everyone needs romantic  (or otherwise) companionship to be a happy, functional human being. I admire Miss Stacy for standing her ground on the matter.
Anne’s traumatic past haunts her more than ever once she goes back to the orphanage she’s spent most of her life in. I think I’m getting traumatised just by watching, imagine what Anne has lived through.
Poor Anne can’t even muster up the strength to speak, traumatised as she is. Thank gods for Cole, always there to help out. But I guess he must be realising now, just as I am for the second time, just as I was the first time around, how much Anne has really been through in her short life so far. She’s really lucky to have the Cuthberts now, and her friends, friends like Cole. But she’s still haunted by all the trauma. I’m crying. I don’t know if I can carry on with this rewatch. I might just stop right here.
Seriously, thank gods for Cole. How can he always bring so much light into other people’s lives, even back when he didn’t have that much light in his own? And to be honest, Anne does the same for people. She’s done it so many times that she needed someone to do it for her for once. Thank gods for people Cole.
‘If you’re having fun, you’re doing it wrong.’ That is a serious red flag. I know things were different back in time, but I really think that you can’t have fun with something unless you’re doing it wrong, it’s better not to do it at all. So Gilbert should pursue what makes him happy, not try to stick to formalities that, at best, bind him. But hey, he’ll have to figure that out for himself. I can’t possibly go in there and tell him. But gosh, how I wish I could...
‘The best part of knowing the rules is finding acceptable ways of breaking them.’ I feel like that’s an important message. Rules aren’t meant to be obeyed blindly. It is crucial to know when and how to a rule to make the world a little bit of a better place. I’m not sure that’s the message here in this situation, in fact I think it’s most likely not, but I’m taking what I can out of it, and I’m flying with it. Isn’t that what I always do? Twist any topic towards an aspect I can talk about - since I can’t really talk about a great many things. Well, whatever, let us try and focus on the episode at hand now. I really struggle with staying on track. But I still have half of this episode to rewatch, so let’s get back to where we were.
Elijah is seriously out of line. Seriously. I get he’s bitter that Delphine is getting the family he didn’t quite have, but his mother is right about him needing to sober up. And Bash’s trying to understand him, but some people really need to meet the business end of things rather than the kind, understanding end.
‘Catch a man. Is it like fishing?’ Gosh, Muriel Stacy, you crack me up. But she’s absolutely right, you know. Romance and courtship should not be like fishing or hunting. A partner is not an object to be obtained, not a prize to be won. They are a fellow human being with needs of their own. But if Muriel doesn’t want one, as I said somewhere above, she should in no way be forced to ‘catch’ a man.
Anne needs proof that she was loved... well, look no further than the pair of lone siblings who accepted you in their home and in their hearts. Look no further than the Cuthberts.
Gilbert is quite unusually cheerful today. I’m guessing that would be courtesy of Winifred. In another universe, maybe. Either way, there is a more serious issue at hand. Elijah again, who else. He’s stolen from John Blythe’s possessions, as if he has the rights to.
‘Fraternising with savages’? Seriously, Marilla? After all the good things I said about you? Not that they weren’t true, mind you, but that doesn’t make the part about calling other people, fellow human beings, ‘savages’. No one deserves to be treated like that.
Gosh, that was quite a way to say those three little words. Three heavy, meaningful little words. And sure, as far as I understand, for I am no mother nor do I want to be, worry is the biggest sign of a mother’s love. And despite all the things Marilla said about the Mi’kmaq, she is a good mother to Anne.
Let’s sum up: Marilla is an amazingly embarrassing mother, but a mother nonetheless; Anne is so cold to Gilbert that he has to resort to awkwardly courting Winifred - why?; Anne’s quest for her own past; Cole returns - thank gods for Cole; Elijah is also back, but I can’t welcome him with open arms; Miss Stacy is a true kindred spirit who, however, does not need a man to be happy; Anne is haunted by her traumatic past; Elijah steals from a dead man; ‘fraternising with savages’ - have we forgotten Anne was also a person whom mothers didn’t want their children fraternising with?; Marilla says ‘I love you’.

05x04 “The Company We Keep” - Meditations on Love
You're both telling me that if someone told you to leave - told you that you’d never see Mistress MacKenzie or Mistress Fraser again, you’d stand for it? That you’d obey without a fight? If either of you would go and leave the woman you love with all your heart, say it now.
-- Isaiah Morton, 05x04 "The Company We Keep"
05x04 did an excellent job at demonstrating the many different kinds of love we’re fortunate to have in this world:
Love between parent and child: Bree and Jem, the Beardsley baby and her new foster parents
Love between siblings: Bree and Marsali, Fergus and Roger
New, heady, no-holds-barred love: Isaiah Morton and Alicia Brown
Solid, steady, soul-deep, happy love: Jamie and Claire
I’ve said before that Jamie - and Claire - are the world’s most pragmatic and rational people, *except* where the other is concerned.
So - with the Isaiah/Alicia storyline in 05x04, how can Jamie and Claire not see a good deal of themselves in that couple?
They meet when one is married to another
Against the odds they fall for each other
They’re ripped apart by circumstances beyond their control
When she gets pregnant, they’re separated
They do stupid things, just to find a way to be together and raise their child in peace
What really cemented this was what Isaiah asked Jamie and Roger (quoted above). Isaiah is a man almost mad with passion for Alicia. He can’t fathom a life without her in it - and neither can she.
What Isaiah will never know, of course, is that at one point in their lives, Jamie - and Claire - answered “yes” to Morton’s question. They did leave each other, with no expectation of ever seeing the other again. They did what they knew needed to be done, knowing they’d be living without a heart, and they were both emotionally adrift for twenty years.
Nobody was able to give Jamie and Claire the chances that they give Isaiah and Alicia - to live in peace, and to raise a child together (which is something Jamie even brings up to Claire during their wonderful conversation in the woods).
So maybe that’s why Jamie and Claire help Isaiah and Alicia get away. Helping two people at least make a good attempt at the future that they were never able to have.
Because the answer to Morton’s question - at this point in their lives, with the history of their choices behind them - is a resounding no.

an angsty wayhaven chronicles wip
since I’ve finished the Obey Me! Truth or Dare series, I need a new way to release some of my inner angst.
I humbly offer you a scene - Detective MacKenzie is far more affected by Mason’s statement in the bakery than they thought they would be, so they take Tina out drinking in an attempt to forget.  When the detective goes too far, Tina calls Adam in for a rescue.
Adam strides purposefully into the bar, eyes narrowing as he searches the dim establishment for Detective MacKenzie, nose wrinkling against the smell of cheap beer.  He huffs in irritation when he is unable to immediately locate them.  His beginning his second scan of the bar when a pair of hands unsteadily yank down on his arm.
Officer Poname is gazing up at him blearily, holding his arm for balance as she stretches up on her tiptoes.
“They’re over there!”  She points to a far corner of the room and shouts in an attempt to be heard above the din of the bar.
Adam winces as her voice attacks his hypersenses and steps away quickly, pulling his arm from her grip as he does.  His gaze flicks in the direction of Officer Poname’s extended arm and catches a glimpse of the detective’s riotous black curls as they laugh and brush their hair over their shoulder, shaking their head and laughing as their long hair tickles their bare shoulders.  The detective’s tattoos are usually covered, but tonight they have removed their flannel shirt and Adam is momentarily fascinated by the colorful ink and pale skin revealed by the detective’s sleeveless shirt.
“They seem to be enjoying themselves,” Adam remarks dryly, wondering for the tenth time since he left the warehouse why he was called to save the detective from their bad decisions.
“Yeah, about that........” Officer Poname slowly drawls.  “There’s something going on.  They won’t tell me what it is, but I haven’t seen them this bad since......”
“Since?”  Adam prompts, impatient.
Officer Poname shakes her head and waves a hand, as if shooing the thought away.  “If Kieran wants to tell you about it, they will.  They point is, they’re drunk and in bad shape, and I’m not in any state to help them out right now.”
“I’m sure Specialist Agent Mason would have been happy to assist Detective MacKenzie,” Adam remarks dryly.
A strangle look crosses Tina’s face.  “They told me not to call him,” she admits.  “They said to call the.....” She trails off and her face flushes momentarily.  “They told me to call you.”
Adam furrows his brow, confused as to why Kieran wouldn’t want to call Mason, and even further confused at the small fluttering in his chest at the revelation that they had insisted he come to their aid.
“Well, uh, I’ll leave you to it then.”  Tina pats his shoulder clumsily and meanders off in search of another drink.
He shoulders his way towards the dark corner Detective MacKenzie is ensconced in, stopping in surprise when he sees they’re not alone.  Kieran is sitting with the reporter, more accurately, seated in his lap, both hands braced on his muscular chest as their fingertips toy with the buttons of his shirt.  Bobby’s fingers run through their hair, tangling in their curls and playing with the silver and leather hair beads scattered through the thick locks.
Pushing down a sudden surge of irritation Adam moves directly behind the duo’s chair and loudly clears his throat.  Bobby is the first to look up at him, eyes widening in surprise quickly followed by curiosity, undoubtedly wondering why Adam is there instead of Mason.
“Looks like you’ve got a visitor, angel.”  He smirks as he twists one of Kieran’s curls around his index finger.
“I’ve come to escort you home,” Adam announces, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Kieran twists to look at him over their shoulder.  They look angry, brows furrowed, lips parted to make a sarcastic remark, as per the usual course of their relationship with him.
As Adam braces himself for a confrontation he glances down to meet Kieran’s gaze.  Their eyes are glassy, pupils blown so wide the black nearly obscures the vivid emerald color of their irises.  Despite the fury that twists their features, their eyes are tortured.
Adam takes a sharp breath, momentarily disconcerted by the pain that emanates from Kieran’s very being; washing over them in waves and threatening drown them.  He exhales shakily, overwhelmed by the sudden, intense urge to dive in and save them from the undertow.
