X: Okay this is a cheat but I will read and love any and all fics about Edward's exit in 1927. That's the question that started Tale of Years: what could make Edward leave when he did, and what brought him back? How did those years change him? I've read at least 20 versions of it since then and I love them all.

Y: The first word that comes to mind is yesterday, and that's what Tale of Years is all about. How did the characters get to where they are in the saga? What do they miss and how have they grown? What were some sorrows and joys along the way? How did new interests and traditions and relationships begin, and how have those things changed over the years? (Is it weird that I've lived in the prequel years so long that the saga feels like a post-canon fic?)

Z: Zafrina is super cool but let's talk about my OC Zaki! He's a Volturi guard in SST. He's originally from Sudan and he had Marfan syndrome as a human, so he's very tall and thin (and was a total klutz). He's the fastest runner in the Guard and is a formidable defensive fighter. Most Likely to Annoy Caius with Puns award.

Matthew Bland, Ja Zaki, The Red Lion and his secret advisor, The Perpetual Woman

Following an incursion in Buredunian territory by Qwardian Weaponeers, Red Lion captured the Perpetual Woman alive to question her regarding both the initial attack and why she had so willingly sacrificed her own soldiers.

She taught Ja Zaki the Qwardian children's tales of God Mobius and his deceitful brothers, and his mother (whose image she had been remade in from the base Qwardian man she had once been) who had fallen into an eternal slumber of deep grief and guilt for the murder of Mobius' father, Ultra. She taught him about the war already raging between Mobius and Alpheus, Antimatter and Dark Matter fueling an endless conflict just beneath the fragile Matter-Multiverse that Ja Zaki had always known.

So, he asked her to show him this war. And she did.

It was in that moment Red Lion knew it was his mission to show every living being what he had seen: he would make them all see The Light.

So since I'm crossing the aisle here, I do want to mention that Red Lion's Headverse plotline is clearly supposed to be Black Panther's plotline from Hickman's New Avengers, with Perpetual Woman standing in for Black Swan and The Light standing in for Marvel's Illuminati.

This version of the Light is meant to be an in-universe successor to Vandal Savage's, which has since collapsed, but the members had in mind were Red Lion, Deathstroke, Wizard, Ultra-Humanite, Max Lord V, Black Manta, and Michael Desai as Boss Dark Side, with Perpetual Woman as Ja Zaki's prisoner/advisor/love interest.

Ofc, the bigger twist on the formula here is--after ousting Slade and wiping his memory--Red Lion makes it clear he's taking an accelerationist approach in speeding up the Anti-Monitor's campaign.

Zaki finally got a colored ref!!

I'm so happy with how he came out!

He's a demon, but his design is based on a mountian weasel, dogbane beetle, and Asian dragons

-Colorless has his extra arms that aren't in the original (totally not because I'm lazy lol)-

Info on Zaki (zack-ee)

He has a problem with his vocal chords that he was born with and he uses ASL to communicate. Having 3 sets of arms is very helpful with this because he can eat or carry something and still be able to talk.

He's a DJ and mainly focuses on Phonk style. His job is making the back tracks to his friend's songs. Though he occasionally does his own music and performs in late night clubs in Hell.

He is very tall, around 10 ft but ironically small for his species. The largest height his species can get is around 15 ft.

As a bit of a mixed bag species wise, so is his diet. He is an Omnivore but also eats insects. He prefers meat though. His favorite snack is jerky.

The pincers on the mouth ref aren't always out. They only come out for hunting or fighting, so when he's very angry or hungry lol. His species use them to fight for dominance by latching them around each aggressor's head. Whoever's skull cracks first loses.
