MENA people can say the US is bad and both political parties are bad and a white liberal will hop on and say how actually one genocide is better than the other because then if the "lesser of two evils" is in power, it happens in a mythical faraway land of Agrabah but if it's the "worser of two evils" it happens in their own backyard and they can't have that *gasp of horror*
Y'all don't give a fuck about genocide being bad, y'all care when it affects you. Leave MENA folks alone when we say fuck the US and US imperialism in our homes!!!

There Were Elephants Here Before
Tumblr media
While crossing the Alps in 218 BC, the great Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca has stumbled upon the skull of a woolly mammoth half-buried in the snow. Given the difficulty his own animals have experienced in enduring the montane cold, he wonders how elephants could ever be native to these frigid heights deep in Europe.
This is of course a speculative scenario, but woolly mammoth remains have actually been found in the Alps on several occasions, so I think it’s theoretically possible for Hannibal or people in his army to have found some on their trek.

"THE GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS ARE OF OUTSTANDING SCENIC INTEREST..."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on Gueltade Tikoubaouine, Tassili n’Ajjer, Algeria, North Africa, a UNESCO World Heritage site. 📸: “Extraanis,” c. 2015 (via Wikimedia).
MINI-OVERVIEW: “Located in a strange lunar landscape of great geological interest, this site has one of the most important groupings of prehistoric cave art in the world. More than 15,000 drawings and engravings record the climatic changes, the animal migrations and the evolution of human life on the edge of the Sahara from 6000 BC to the first centuries of the present era. The geological formations are of outstanding scenic interest, with eroded sandstones forming "forests of rock.”

headcanons – nabil mahmoud, #17: junior
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nabil mahmoud was only mentioned like three times in the sunshine court and of course i had to immediately built my own headcanons around him so here we go i guess hehe
first, and foremost, nabil mahmoud is a north african man 🫡 my original headcanon was for him to be a moroccan man (self projecting), but since i’m fancasting ameziane as nabil, i’ve moved on from moroccan to algerian.
nabil is muslim !! i think this was quite obvious from the book, since it was mentioned he’s the last one on the court, because he couldn’t gear up until after prayers, but it’s so important to me i want to acknowledge it <333
now moving on to a bit a more controversial topic since he’s muslim. i also headcanon him to have a situationship with tony. because i’m nothing without my lgbt muslim headcanons (i did it first with laila dermott and nabil mahmoud is my second victim)
i might do a whole other post about tony & nabil headcanons but let me start easy off
also tony is one of the trojans assistant’s and idek how old the assistants are supposed to be but for the sake of my own sanity and headcanons lets say tops 2 years older so i can live within my own delusions hehe.
even though nabil is an exy player for the trojans he’s actually really good when it comes to playing football (soccer) too, since he grew up playing football on the streets with his childhood friends and father.
daddy issues !! because what are we without our daddy issues.
he’s got a great bond with his mother though, he talks a lot with her on the phone, but he rarely visits due to avoiding his father.
most summers he’s everywhere and nowhere but last year he’s stayed with tony and his family (subtly pushing my situationship agenda).
since it’s confirmed he studies architecture he dreams off bringing his own modern switch to north african architecture (it’s STUNNING he has a vision)
religious trauma due to him dealing with his sexuality, been there done that.
since nabil and cat are juniors they’re actually really close friends. and as i said before i headcanon to laila to be a sapphic muslim. so i imagine cat and nabil grew closer together when he opened up about his sexuality and his feelings with religion.
cat is his standing pillar within the trojans they’re besties in my mind.

I am Lebanese. I used to be really white washed when I was a kid. I used to wish I was completely Australian and not have any Lebanese in me at all.
Just recently have I started embracing my culture and heritage as a Lebanese woman and I dreamed of visiting Lebanon again so I could absorb what I missed out on appreciating as a child. The language, the history, the food, the people.
Israel is currently bombing Lebanon as well as Palestine and Syria. This isn’t the beginning, but it’s scary. People have died/been injured, including children. I fear that the country that I used to not acknowledge as my native land, the country that I now hold so much respect and love for, the country that I wanted to come back to after I graduated so that I could finally embrace my rich culture, will be reduced to rubble.
To my Arab friends, Israel is already counting on people to forget and be apathetic about their actions. They spread lies and hatred about the Middle East and its people. They terrorise the inhabitants, steal their land, destroy their homes and try to cleanse them of their ethnicity. If Israel is already doing all this to try and eradicate our history and culture, we cannot assist them in this process.
Be proud about who you are, now more than ever. Be loud. Be irritating. Be the flies in their ear, they already see us as insects. Don’t ever be ashamed of where you come from, who you are. Your culture, values and beliefs are instilled in you from the moment you are born and are attacked the moment you are born. Keep them close to your heart because you have a heart, a functional one. One that feels empathy, compassion, kindness, love, joy, appreciation. In a world where these things are in such short supply, they are more valuable than ever.
Be MENA and proud in a world that tries to tear you down from the moment you rise.
Free Palestine.

Quote from 1867 by founding Egyptologist Champollion Figeac –
“The first tribes that inhabited Egypt that is, the Nile Valley between the Syene cataracts and the sea, came from Abyssinia to Sennar. The ancient Egyptians belonged to a race quite similar to the Kennous or Barabras, present inhabitants of Nubia In the Copts of Egypt we do not find any of the characteristic features of the ancient Egyptian population. The Copts are the result of crossbreeding with all the nations that have successively dominated Egypt . It is wrong to seek in them the principal features of the old race.”

From Letters published by Champollion-Figeac (Founding Egyptologist)
Also written by Jean Francois Champollion “Dr. Larrey investigated this problem in Egypt; he examined a large number of mummies, studied their skulls, recognized the principle characteristics, tried to identify them in the various races living in Egypt, and succeeded in doing so. The Abyssinian seemed to him to combine them all, except for the black race. The Abyssinian has large eyes, an agreeable glance, prominent cheekbones; the cheeks form a regular triangle with prominent angles of the jawbone and mouth; the lips are thick without being everted as in Blacks; the teeth are fine, just slightly protruding ; finally, the complexion is merely copper-colored: such are the Abyssinians observed by Dr. Larrey generally known as Berbers or Barabras, present-day inhabitants of Nubia.”

I am once again asking people to stop referring to indigenous north africans as "b*rbers" because it was used by colonists and directly translates to "barbarians". Call us by our tribe names, our peoples names - there is no shortage of resource to uncover that amazigh and bedouin are terms still widely used to describe our populations and are inoffensive.
