So You Need To Buy A Computer But You Don't Know What Specs Are Good These Days
Hi.
This is literally my job.
Lots of people are buying computers for school right now or are replacing computers as their five-year-old college laptop craps out so here's the standard specs you should be looking for in a (windows) computer purchase in August 2023.
PROCESSOR
Intel i5 (no older than 10th Gen)
Ryzen 7
You can get away with a Ryzen 5 but an intel i3 should be an absolute last resort. You want at least an intel i5 or a Ryzen 7 processor. The current generation of intel processors is 13, but anything 10 or newer is perfectly fine. DO NOT get a higher performance line with an older generation; a 13th gen i5 is better than an 8th gen i7. (Unfortunately I don't know enough about ryzens to tell you which generation is the earliest you should get, but staying within 3 generations is a good rule of thumb)
RAM
8GB absolute minimum
If you don't have at least 8GB RAM on a modern computer it's going to be very, very slow. Ideally you want a computer with at least 16GB, and it's a good idea to get a computer that will let you add or swap RAM down the line (nearly all desktops will let you do this, for laptops you need to check the specs for Memory and see how many slots there are and how many slots are available; laptops with soldered RAM cannot have the memory upgraded - this is common in very slim laptops)
STORAGE
256GB SSD
Computers mostly come with SSDs these days; SSDs are faster than HDDs but typically have lower storage for the same price. That being said: SSDs are coming down in price and if you're installing your own drive you can easily upgrade the size for a low cost. Unfortunately that doesn't do anything for you for the initial purchase.
A lot of cheaper laptops will have a 128GB SSD and, because a lot of stuff is stored in the cloud these days, that can be functional. I still recommend getting a bit more storage than that because it's nice if you can store your music and documents and photos on your device instead of on the cloud. You want to be able to access your files even if you don't have internet access.
But don't get a computer with a big HDD instead of getting a computer with a small SSD. The difference in speed is noticeable.
SCREEN (laptop specific)
Personally I find that touchscreens have a negative impact on battery life and are easier to fuck up than standard screens. They are also harder to replace if they get broken. I do not recommend getting a touch screen unless you absolutely have to.
A lot of college students especially tend to look for the biggest laptop screen possible; don't do that. It's a pain in the ass to carry a 17" laptop around campus and with the way that everything is so thin these days it's easier to damage a 17" screen than a 14" screen.
On the other end of that: laptops with 13" screens tend to be very slim devices that are glued shut and impossible to work on or upgrade.
Your best bet (for both functionality and price) is either a 14" or a 15.6" screen. If you absolutely positively need to have a 10-key keyboard on your laptop, get the 15.6". If you need something portable more than you need 10-key, get a 14"
FORM FACTOR (desktop specific)
If you purchase an all-in-one desktop computer I will begin manifesting in your house physically. All-in-ones take away every advantage desktops have in terms of upgradeability and maintenance; they are expensive and difficult to repair and usually not worth the cost of disassembling to upgrade.
There are about four standard sizes of desktop PC: All-in-One (the size of a monitor with no other footprint), Tower (Big! probably at least two feet long in two directions), Small Form Factor Tower (Very moderate - about the size of a large shoebox), and Mini/Micro/Tiny (Small! about the size of a small hardcover book).
If you are concerned about space you are much better off getting a MicroPC and a bracket to put it on your monitor than you are getting an all-in-one. This will be about a million percent easier to work on than an all-in-one and this way if your monitor dies your computer is still functional.
Small form factor towers and towers are the easiest to work on and upgrade; if you need a burly graphics card you need to get a full size tower, but for everything else a small form factor tower will be fine. Most of our business sales are SFF towers and MicroPCs, the only time we get something larger is if we have to put a $700 graphics card in it. SFF towers will accept small graphics cards and can handle upgrades to the power supply; MicroPCs can only have the RAM and SSD upgraded and don't have room for any other components or their own internal power supply.
WARRANTY
Most desktops come with either a 1 or 3 year warranty; either of these is fine and if you want to upgrade a 1 year to a 3 year that is also fine. I've generally found that if something is going to do a warranty failure on desktop it's going to do it the first year, so you don't get a hell of a lot of added mileage out of an extended warranty but it doesn't hurt and sometimes pays off to do a 3-year.
Laptops are a different story. Laptops mostly come with a 1-year warranty and what I recommend everyone does for every laptop that will allow it is to upgrade that to the longest warranty you can get with added drop/damage protection. The most common question our customers have about laptops is if we can replace a screen and the answer is usually "yes, but it's going to be expensive." If you're purchasing a low-end laptop, the parts and labor for replacing a screen can easily cost more than half the price of a new laptop. HOWEVER, the way that most screens get broken is by getting dropped. So if you have a warranty with drop protection, you just send that sucker back to the factory and they fix it for you.
So, if it is at all possible, check if the manufacturer of a laptop you're looking at has a warranty option with drop protection. Then, within 30 days (though ideally on the first day you get it) of owning your laptop, go to the manufacturer site, register your serial number, and upgrade the warranty. If you can't afford a 3-year upgrade at once set a reminder for yourself to annually renew. But get that drop protection, especially if you are a college student or if you've got kids.
And never, ever put pens or pencils on your laptop keyboard. I've seen people ruin thousand dollar, brand-new laptops that they can't afford to fix because they closed the screen on a ten cent pencil. Keep liquids away from them too.
LIFESPAN
There's a reasonable chance that any computer you buy today will still be able to turn on and run a program or two in ten years. That does not mean that it is "functional."
At my office we estimate that the functional lifespan of desktops is 5-7 years and the functional lifespan of laptops is 3-5 years. Laptops get more wear and tear than desktops and desktops are easier to upgrade to keep them running. At 5 years for desktops and 3 years for laptops you should look at upgrading the RAM in the device and possibly consider replacing the SSD with a new (possibly larger) model, because SSDs and HDDs don't last forever.
COST
This means that you should think of your computers as an annual investment rather than as a one-time purchase. It is more worthwhile to pay $700 for a laptop that will work well for five years than it is to pay $300 for a laptop that will be outdated and slow in one year (which is what will happen if you get an 8th gen i3 with 8GB RAM). If you are going to get a $300 laptop try to get specs as close as possible to the minimums I've laid out here.
If you have to compromise on these specs, the one that is least fixable is the processor. If you get a laptop with an i3 processor you aren't going to be able to upgrade it even if you can add more RAM or a bigger SSD. If you have to get lower specs in order to afford the device put your money into the processor and make sure that the computer has available slots for upgrade and that neither the RAM nor the SSD is soldered to the motherboard. (one easy way to check this is to search "[computer model] RAM upgrade" on youtube and see if anyone has made a video showing what the inside of the laptop looks like and how much effort it takes to replace parts)
Computers are expensive right now. This is frustrating, because historically consumer computer prices have been on a downward trend but since 2020 that trend has been all over the place. Desktop computers are quite expensive at the moment (August 2023) and decent laptops are extremely variably priced.
If you are looking for a decent, upgradeable laptop that will last you a few years, here are a couple of options that you can purchase in August 2023 that have good prices for their specs:
14" Lenovo - $670 - 11th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD
15.6" HP - $540 - 11th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD
14" Dell - $710 - 12th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD
If you are looking for a decent, affordable desktop that will last you a few years, here are a couple of options that you can purchase in August 2023 that have good prices for their specs:
SFF HP - $620 - 10th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD
SFF Lenovo - $560 - Ryzen 7 5000 series, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
Dell Tower - $800 - 10th-gen i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
If I were going to buy any of these I'd probably get the HP laptop or the Dell Tower. The HP Laptop is actually a really good price for what it is.
Anyway happy computering.

I wanted this home to be super cosy with "Live Love Laugh" vibes. Very much decorated with a feminine eye with lots of cute B&M/Best Buy/cheap & cheerful clutter decor.
I have play-tested this and it all works except the two bathroom sinks because the sinks aren't designed for those counters. I'm guessing the counters are too high which puts the sinks too high to use. I did try to play around and try and get it working but couldn't manage it. It doesn't bother me (it kinda eliminates the dishwashing in the bathroom) so I left it for the ✨ aethestic✨ but they can easily be replaced if you want!
I've also removed the custom images in the bedroom (you can see them in the video), just because they are boudoir shots :)

why did I never start following you I was looking for you in my list of moots and then I realised you were never there... well that's fixed now
anyways the actual question hi!! I've seen you share some lancer campaign stuff (very cool!) and I think you're running your campaign using foundry. is it a good tabletop? I've been using roll20 but I have some beef with it (I ran out of storage space pretty quick) and I checked out foundry real quick cause from what I've seen it's pretty great, but wowie that's quite the price tag (especially for my silly unemployed self).
is it worth it? you got any upsides n downsides you'd like to share with anyone thinking about using it?
thanks for hearing me out! also if I mistook your tabletop for something else you are legally allowed to fire an apocalypse rail at me
Hihi! You're right about me using foundry, I've got a few campaigns I'm running on it (the #my table tag)! Personally I've been liking it much more than I ever did roll20, but it's not quite as plug-and-play as roll20 can be. On the pilot net discord (https://discord.gg/lancer), there's actually a channel dedicated to talking about lancer and vtts, which is a good thing to check for help and options too!
Foundry's like $50 usd, but at least it's a flat price and not a subscription. Also goes on sale every few months so you could wait for one of those to grab it (as of writing this too it's on a 20% anniversary sale too until May 31st). On top of that you have to host stuff yourself, or else set up your own server—I personally set up an external host at https://foundryserver.com/ but obviously that means now I'm paying for a subscription for that and honestly you probably don't need that, I've got a friend who handle hosting herself and it works perfectly.
The thing that's both nice and a lot is the module system. It's got a browser built in so you can search both the stuff in their database, and you can put in links to stuff other people have made, which is where I've installed things like the isometrics look I've got (grape juice isometrics). It also means you do have to spend some time while doing setup adding modules, testing them, figuring out how it works, etc. It also means that if you start having errors and bugs, the debugging process can be a tedious "disable every module and then turn them on one-by-one until you find which one is the problem."
Unfortunately between having to figure out hosting and setting up modules, it's got a lot more overhead for the gm than just spinning up roll20 and having it work out the box. Flip-side, the pilot net discord is really friendly and happy to help explain things. Heck, there's even a guide on google docs (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VoSrsI_RnlDtrmshNWRdTdY5Xl3eB3oxUxEJt1Vqj44/edit#heading=h.bgdnv8sel1f) people put together for that purpose!
On that note you can almost certainly find someone there who is down to let you play around with their setup as a temp gm.
tl;dr
I think it's worth the price, but you can probably afford to wait until a sale if you're not sure. It's a lot more work for the gm/host to set up, but in turn you have a lot more you can do with it.
also while I have you here, let me get into some specifics
I use starlight furnace's art (https://starlight-furnace.itch.io/) for the tiles and backgrounds, retrograde minis for the mecha (https://www.retrogrademinis.com/) both of which are free.
For foundry modules, I'd recommend
grape_juice-isometrics
Hex Token Size Support
Grid Aware Templates
Drag Ruler
There's also some useful stuff like Drag Upload that can help making things feel more intuitive.
also let me beg your forgiveness for so many words with pretty pictures

Pre-Boruto Konohagakure Central Locations
Tumblr media
1. Ninja Academy:
Used heavily for both military and domestic affairs, established by the Nidaime Hokage, Tobirama Senju. It has been expanded many times to reach its current size, and the curriculum changed with new generations. It is found at the base of the Hokage mountain, this building also contains the administrative division where the Hokage office is located.
The jōnin station is near here, and as the heart of the villages power, they congregate at this location when not on duty to wait on the Hokage’s order, or in case of an emergency. On top of the building is the terrace where Team 7 first told Kakashi, and each other, their dreams for the future. The Hokage mountain can be viewed from this spot, which during emergencies, residents of Konoha can assemble at it.
Tumblr media
2. Hokage Residence:
Passed down from the Shodai Hokage, Hashirama Senju, this mansion is the residence of the current village leader. Its located near the academy and Hokage mountain, making it an ideal location.
The building contains many forbidden and dangerous scrolls, juts, and other top secret information, making it a highly sought after place for intruders, even before taking into account that the Hokage also lives there.
Tumblr media
3. Konoha Hospital:
The Konoha hospital contains both civilian doctors and medical-nin. Although most of the staff are skilled enough for basic treatment, special cases and certain emergencies mean that the higher skilled medics are required. Research in medicine and jutsu development occurs here.
Tumblr media
4. Movie Theatre:
Located on one of the largest roads in Konoha, the cinema is a popular site for adults. This may be due to the influx of Make-Out (Icha Icha) fans, as these R-rated screenings are often sold out for days. Young people do also frequent the cinema, with Princess Gale movies becoming well liked. Tickets for admission to the Make-Out (Icha Icha) viewing are around 180ryo per person.
At the bookstore, the Make-out Paradise volume 1-3 and Make-Out Violence books are sold at 120ryo each, the price of Make-Out Innocence and Make-Out Tactics is unknown, but thought to be similarly priced.
Tumblr media
5. Yamanaka Flowers:
This is a flower shop run by the Yamanaka clan, like an invitation to the land of dreams, the shop is filled with beautiful colours and scents. It was opened during the time of the Shodai Hokage, meaning its been ran for over 60 years.
Tumblr media
6. Naruto’s Neighbourhood:
Near the academy, always bustling with people. It contains many old shops.
Tumblr media
7. Ichiraku Ramen:
A favoured ramen shop within Konoha, founded 34 years before Shippuden by Teuchi, and ran alongside his daughter. Its popular amongst the old and young, famous for their strong commitment to taste and the tonkotsu they serve.
Tumblr media
8. Konoha Tea Avenue:
A row of tea and sweet shops with a great view of the Hokage mountain. A famous shop here is the Amaguriama sweet shop, known for its kuriyoukan (chestnuts and sweet bean jelly), and their kuri zenzai (chestnuts and red bean paste soup). It also contains the Dango shop Team 10 visit.
Tumblr media
9. Shushu-ya:
A Chinese restaurant selling huge plates of food and their own brand of sake.
Tumblr media
10. Reservoir:
A reservoir within Konoha, and a frequent waiting spot for Team 7.
Tumblr media
11. Naruto’s Place:
Naruto’s apartment consisted of an open plan kitchen and bedroom, a bathroom (11), a toilet (10), and a small training room covered with no windows. As shown in the below illustration the main room has the entrance to the apartment (1), shelves for shoes (2), a box of ramen (3), a sink to wash dishes (4), cupboards (5), Naruto’s old goggles on a shelf above his bed (6), an under bed storage area (7) and a mirror (8). The training room has a mini (and exhausted) Kakashi plush (9). Naruto is very fond of plants, as can be seen by his collection. His bedroom window is east facing, so the room gets plenty of natural light.
Tumblr media
Honourable Mentions
Konoha Hot Springs:
Dozens of hot springs to help shinobi relax, or even train. The hot springs are divided by gender.
Yakiniku Q:
This is a Korean restaurant within Konoha, shinobi teams frequent the place after missions or in times of celebration. Their most popular dish is salted beef tongue with welsh onion.
Hokage Rock:
Symbol of the village, with each Hokage’s faced carved into it. During emergencies everyone assembles here.
Kikyo Castle:
Castle near the village borders, site of where Gaara killed Dosu Kinuta, and near where Baki and Hayate Gekko fought.
Practice Grounds:
Used for shinobi training and skirmishes, more than fifty training grounds available with different sizes and layouts.

Apple M4 Powers Up the iMac: Blazing Speed for Creatives
Tumblr media
Apple M4 iMac Predictions
24 Apple iMac
Apple M4 chips may be introduced when Apple updates the 24-inch iMac in 2024. Apple intends to update the Mac series, including the iMac, with AI-focused M4 CPUs. This document details Apple’s M4 iMac ambitions.
Apple M4
Apple may incorporate the M4 chip from the latest iPad Pro models in the forthcoming 24-inch iMac. Since iMacs have M3 chips, the M4 will be a direct upgrade.
Apple M4 is a second-generation chip based on the M3’s 3-nanometer technology with performance and efficiency improvements. Apple M4 CPU outscored M3 chip by 25% in Geekbench benchmark test, suggesting considerable performance boost.
The Apple M4 had 3,695 single-core and 14,550 multi-core scores, compared to 3,087 and 11,702 for the M3.
Apple’s M4 processor has a 10-core GPU and CPU with four performance and six efficiency cores. Apple uses an M4 with a 9-core CPU in the iPad Pro, but the iMac may not have it.
Other Macs will have upgraded M4 Pro, M4 Max, and M4 Ultra CPUs, while the 24-inch iMac, which is equal in price to the MacBook Air, will only have the M4 chip.
Create
No signs suggest Apple will revamp the iMac soon the last overhaul was in 2021. The 2024 iMac refresh may focus internal improvements over exterior design changes.
Computers and displays are merged in the iMac. It fits on a desktop due to its narrow profile and 11.5mm thickness. It has a pastel chin and comes in bright shades.
They know of no iMac enhancements other than the Apple M4 chip.
Larger iMac?
Despite rumours, a 30-inch iMac was still in development in mid-2023. Its release date is unknown. As of May 25, 2024, Apple has no larger iMac. Current 24-inch iMacs include M3 chips. In 2024, rumours of a bigger iMac with an M-series CPU had faded. Apple hasn’t confirmed a 30-inch model for 2025.
Expect a larger iMac: Rumours say Apple may sell a larger iMac in the future.
Connect Mac to external display: You can add a larger external monitor to your iMac or Mac mini. This maximises screen space and lets you choose size and resolution.
Consider Mac Studio: The Mac Studio is fast and may be used with a larger display for a strong desktop arrangement.
Launch Day
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expected a 24-inch iMac M4 processor update “around the end of the year.” The iMac may launch at October or November Apple events with new Macs. Pre-year MacBook Pro and Mac mini improvements are anticipated. Since the iMac was updated in October 2023, an October 2024 release would conclude the year.
The M4 processor outperforms the M3 with a 10-core CPU (6 efficiency and 4 performance) and GPU. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing and 16-core Neural Engine are featured. The M4 iMac could handle video editing and 3D rendering.
Apple iMac M3
They expect the new iMac to have a 24-inch Retina 4.5K display like the M3 model. Apple may possibly offer more colours for the upcoming iMac, like the M2 model. The M4 iMac will be a major upgrade from the M3. Keep an eye out for Apple’s M4-powered iMac later this year if you want a powerful and adaptable desktop.
Based on rumours and leaks, the M4 iMac may include these features:
The next-generation 24-inch iMac is believed to have the M4 chip, which Apple used in the current iPad Pro versions.
The M4, a second-generation microprocessor with faster and more efficient performance, uses the same 3-nanometer technology as the M3.
The M4 outperformed the M3 on Geekbench by 25%. Apple’s M4 processor contains a 10-core CPU and GPU with six efficiency and four performance cores.
Design: The M4 iMac will have a slim, colourful aluminium casing like the M3.
Seven brilliant colors blue, green, pink, silver, space grey, yellow, and orange are likely.
256GB of M4 iMac storage can be expanded to 2TB of SSD storage.
The M4 iMac will have 8GB of starting memory and up to 16GB of unified memory.
Reports and leaks suggest these specs for Apple’s M4 iMac:
M4 Chip had 10 cores: 4 efficient, 6 performant.
Ten cores and second-generation 3-nanometers make the GPU more efficient and performant than M3.
24-inch 4.5K Retina screen, True Tone, P3 colour gamut.
SSDs start at 256GB and RAM up to 2TB.
Standard unified memory is 8GB, customisable to 16GB.
Dual SDXC card slots, USB-C connections, Thunderbolt 4 connectors.
From last update, there was no mention of a “M4 iMac.” Apple regularly updates their products with newer processors and features. Apple’s custom Mac CPUs are generally labelled “M”.
The M1 chip, which delivered exceptional performance and energy economy, changed Apple’s desktop and laptop computers. An M4 iMac may use this special silicon to boost power and efficiency. I prefer Apple’s official releases or trusted tech sources for the most accurate and current information.

so when I posted the Decora Girlz I forgot to make a post about the other thing I'd bought, so here we go:
On top of the 2 dolls I also bought a My Life As doll outfit.
Tumblr media
I don't have an MLA doll I have an American Girl doll, but from my research they fit the clothes pretty nicely (things like MLA flip flops not so much apparently). I haven't really gotten into American girl or other 18 inch doll stuff due to the prices and space you'd need (the space I have being rather limited, again my doll table being considered "too much" but that's more due to the carpet needing redone rather than the space actually being too much) so besides clothes for the doll I got back in 2014 I'm not really going any further for her. (Info on doll under cut, but no more photos.)
I also only got this cute outfit cause it's care bears (my oldest hyperfixation next to 101 dalmations) and I want to keep my doll as long as possible. She's in storage rn but I wanted to have a new outfit roughly her size for when I finally pulled her out. Also before anyone asks she's a "looks like you" doll (or whatever name they had in 2014). I got her in the mall of America store (no longer there its m&ms store now) after having a serious surgery as a lil treat for myself (I begged my mom to get me one, the one I wanted was discontinued, we found the number that looked the most like me before surgery and got her on our way home after being in the hospital for like 2 weeks). She's a mini me and so to keep the mini me aspect I thought having this care bears outfit with the handmade baby bed I have from someone that has care bear designs burned into the wood would be nice. :3
Anyways past any other outfits I feel the "need" to get her I'll probably not post on this or my main about her again. Also unless I see a MLA doll I desperately want or is super cheap I probably won't get another one either. My sis got an our generation doll the same time I got her, but she's gotten rid of hers and I'm just gonna vibe with mine.

Work bad today! Retail makes me despise humanity! So here are pieces of advice I expect no one to actually see.
1. When a store is closing, hurry the fuck up and finish and get out. Employees want to go home. Yes we will stay until you leave. That’s true. But if you had all day to be here and you chose to wait until now? You are the annoying asshole of my day preventing me from getting to sleep at a decent hour tonight.
2. Don’t ask employee’s of one store about prices of another??? This seems so obvious but oh my god why do I get so many questions about merchandise from other nearby stores. Do I look like I know the answer? NO. Go ask the people that WORK THERE.
3. If the prices on something are listed in the display case, don’t ask employees if that price is accurate. It is! We put the price there so you don’t have to ask!
4. Don’t interrupt other employee/customer interactions to ask a question. Wait your fucking turn! I don’t care if you just “have a quick question” or you already know what you want. I’m helping this person right now. Wait.
5. Pointing repeatedly at a display case and saying “that one” is not helpful. If you have a question about something in the display or you want to see it up close, just give me a small description, anything really. “The green one” “that one with the little stars” “the silver one with little stones in it” literally anything to go off of. please.
6. If I say we don’t have something, we don’t have it. Don’t assume you’re the first person to have asked that today. If we had more sizes of that in stock they would be out. If we had more colors, they would be out. When you ask me to “check in the back” what you want is not back there. “The back” is not a magic portal to the lost and found of your dreams. “The back” is a few employee lockers, a mini fridge, some benches, and a few storage bins of extra stock of the things you’re not looking for.
Anyways! Fun day at work today and super fun people o_0

Thess vs Projects & Acquisitions
Well, today’s already been a pretty good day. I mean, I haven’t been awake for long, but ... y’know, that’s part of why it’s been a good day.
Since I had the day off, I had earlier-than-usual mini watch party of The Legend of Vox Machina. (I have thoughts. I’ll ramble about all that later.) Slept in. Woke up and did the online ordering portion of my big grocery shop. Which was good because some of the things I wanted and needed were on special offer - like, the good gluten-free bread, just for example. Also picked up a few ingredients for something I really wanted to try - see, I’m a little fed up at how expensive hot chocolate mix is, and the supermarket own-brand stuff is kind of crap, and I tripped over a video awhile ago about how to make your own. So I’m going to do that. Which meant I needed a couple of storage containers of the right size to store the finished product ... though I could just use the old jars, which I’ve saved. Hmm. Thoughts for later, but honestly, with everything I get up to, I could use storage jars. Also I needed to hit Amazon anyway because I needed a safer candy thermometer than the one I have if I’m going to be making hard candy. Even the steam from heating sugar to hard crack point can be seriously painful, and my candy thermometer requires leaning too close to the pot for my liking.
Anyway, after that, I fulfilled a promise to myself - a promise that this paycheque, on sale or not, I was going to get my Gilmore’s Glorious Bathrobe. It’s time to retire my old one, which looks like I skinned a polka-dotted Muppet to get it. It’s served me well, my old Muppet, but one of the pockets is ripped halfway off and it’s all battered. Best part is, it was still on sale - to the point where even when I sprang for DPD next-day delivery service, it was still cheaper than the base price would have been if I’d bought it while not on sale! Which means I should have it tomorrow! So I am of a squee. That’s even not taking into account that apparently my bestie is throwing the Trinket slippers at me as an early birthday gift.
Look, right now, with the way things are? Being able to stay warm without turning on the heating is a serious bonus. And ... well, the shark socks didn’t work out - they were cheap crap and the soles kept shifting in weird ways so they’re not really wearable - and my lovely super-thick fleece socks are great for warming up my feet when I’m curling up in bed for the night but they’re thick enough that I can’t throw a pair of shoes over them to step out onto the balcony. Thus, two pairs of moderately warm socks and slippers. I’ve been making do with thinner socks so I had my eye on more slippers anyway. I was just getting jazzed about the Trinket slippers hitting the UK shop and thinking I could buy slippers and robe at the same time, when all of a sudden, “I’m letting you know that I’m getting you the Trinket slippers, so you don’t go ahead and buy them first - happy early birthday”. My bestie knows me too well. ^_^
Right. It’s been a productive day but I’ve still got shit to do. Need to go out and pick up painkillers and at least some groceries (delivery’s tomorrow but food is still needed today). So not much shit to do, but some. Tomorrow’s going to be the day for Doing Things, though - fruit to run through the dehydrator, making my hot chocolate mix, and running D&D. And Sunday’s the big group session. Lots to prep for, but hey.

Why You Should Consider a Commercial Solar Panel
Tumblr media
If you are looking to build a new home or add a structure to your existing home, then it might be worthwhile to consider a commercial solar panel. They are a great way to get clean, renewable energy into your home, and can also save you money. In addition, many states offer a Clean Energy Credit, which can make your project even more affordable.
Costs
The costs of commercial solar panels have dropped dramatically over the past decade. As a result, many businesses of all sizes are taking advantage of the financial opportunities presented by this type of technology. In some cases, businesses may qualify for tax relief.
The federal government offers a 30% investment tax credit for installing a solar panel system. This rebate can lower the initial cost by up to $20,000 for some businesses. However, this credit will be stepped down after the year 2019.
Another federal program, the Clean Energy Credit, is another way to reduce the costs of installing a solar panel. The credit is equal to 30 percent of the total cost of the solar panel.
In addition to the federal incentives, local utility providers also offer rebate programs for renewable energy technology. The savings generated by a solar system can vary by state, but in general, a commercial system will pay for itself within six years.
Efficiency
When choosing solar panels for a commercial or residential property, it's important to find the most efficient model for your needs. This will help you maximize your energy use and reduce your costs. There are many factors that affect panel efficiency, including the type of cell and the number of cells.
Higher efficiency panels are designed to generate more electricity per square foot. They are also perfect for roofs with limited space. If you need to install a large amount of panels, you may be able to get more for your money with a less-efficient model.
Efficiency is a measure of how much sunlight is converted into electric power. It's measured under standard test conditions, which are based on the cell temperature and the level of irradiance. Solar irradiance is affected by the time of year, latitude and atmospheric conditions. Clouds and snow can cut down on the amount of sunlight that hits a solar panel.
Carports
Solar carports are a great way to protect your vehicles from the sun and rain. These canopies are easy to install, maintain and repair. They can also serve as mini power plants for your home or business.
Solar carports can save your company money on electricity and help reduce your carbon footprint. Aside from helping the environment, they are also a great marketing tool. As more people become eco-conscious, they will want to patronize businesses that are invested in the future of the planet.
Whether you own a restaurant, church, or auto dealership, your commercial property is a prime candidate for a solar carport. You may even be eligible for state or federal rebates. Depending on your location, you can sell any excess solar energy back to your utility provider.
Storage capacity for electricity
Adding storage capacity to your commercial solar panels helps to reduce the amount of electricity that you draw from the power grid. By having less power pulled, you can avoid the cost of peak price rates. Depending on your storage capacity, you can even shift energy from off-peak to on-peak times, which can help make your monthly electricity costs more predictable.
Battery-based systems can also provide backup power during outages. This can be especially important for schools and hospitals. They often have large campuses with lots of rooftop PV potential.
The United States has seen a surge in interest in pairing solar with battery storage over the past few years. While the technology has come a long way, it still has a way to go before it is fully utilized.
Clean energy credit
If you are installing a Solar system for commercial use, you might qualify for a clean energy credit. You can get up to 30 percent of the cost of the equipment. This tax break can be applied to any type of solar system. In addition to the federal credit, you may also qualify for a local or state rebate or subsidized loan.
In the past decade, the solar industry has created hundreds of thousands of new jobs and invested billions of dollars in the United States economy. As prices have fallen, more and more companies and nonprofits have invested in renewable energy projects.
A recent reconciliation bill, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, includes a new 30% solar tax credit, $370 billion in climate spending, and other funding measures. This will help reduce the cost of home energy, save American families up to $1,000 per year, and decrease carbon emissions by 40% by 2030.

As many of you know, my daughter is heading off to college in less than a month. 🤩 but also 😢. Anyway, that has meant a lot of time scrambling about for things she'll need to have - the right size sheets and blankets (she'll have to get used to a smaller bed again), a mini fridge, space-efficient storage, that kind of thing. One of the biggest things dollar-wise is a new computer, and as the family IT person that's my department. So this might only be interesting for the more computer-inclined folks out there. Think of it as a case study.
She already has a computer, actually, but it's really for gaming so it's pretty darn big and the proprietary power brick makes it even worse. She'll probably take it anyway, with an 8GB -> 32GB memory upgrade that we hope will extend its useful life until we can get a good price on the next generation, but there's no way she'll be lugging that thing to and from classes. Besides the size and weight, there's the issue of battery life to consider. My priorities for computer number two - based on my own experience traveling a week per month for over three years before I retired - are low weight, good battery life, and preferably USB-C rather than proprietary charging.
As it turns out, Lenovo pretty much rules the roost for this category. I go to NewEgg, plug in a couple of dozen parameters, and half of what pops out - especially at reasonable prices - is Lenovo. Go to B&H, same thing. Go to Best Buy, same thing. They're just impossible to ignore. I guess that's why I'm typing this on one of theirs. They don't do too badly in the low-to-mid gaming segment either, which is why both of the gaming computers in this household are Legion 5s (of different vintage). On the other hand, her BF asked me to find a deal on a gaming laptop and what eventually popped out was a Dell, so Lenovo's dominance isn't absolute.
So now I have computer envy. Daughter has a brand new thin and light 2-in-1 (Yoga 6 if anyone cares). My Slim 7 has served me well for about two years, but it's showing its age. My 'T' key is missing, because it broke when I was trying to remove some tiny particle that had gotten under it. Good thing I'm a "bare metal" kind of guy, since I've been typing on the exposed contact for a couple of months. Even more worrisome, my touchpad seems to be getting flakier and flakier. Some day it's likely to give out entirely, so I'll be stuck using an external one if I haven't procured a new laptop by then. I kind of hate how we've gotten to the point where two years is considered a decent lifetime for a computer (maybe even a bit long according to many in my circle), but that seems to be where we are.

Wishlist - end of 2012, beginning of 2013
This wishlist collage was also featured in my crafting blog, back when I was still using livejournal. The post is (currently) still live, and I’ve got another copy of it on my dreamwidth account (also neglected). Might as well have another copy of it on tumblr, for when I compile stuff eventually.
December 2012 is around the time I started discussing using a thread rack to display spare doll heads. John bought a rack before I got around to buying mine, but he was nice enough to credit me with the idea.
Anyway, here’s wonderwall of text.
Top, left- Hot Toys Loki 12in figure Loki's been on my mind for quite awhile. Most of the accessories and costume pieces will be sold off, since I really just want the nude figure. Individual pieces often fetch high prices, so selling the extras is less hassle than trying to fight for the stuff I'm after. Second and bottom, left- 23cm Obitsu body and extra 27cm Obitsu hands The 23cm body will go to "When I Read, I Dream" Jo, who has been fighting with Adex over the 25cm body. Might be able to skip it if I can get the right combo of parts out of what I have on hand. As for the hands, I don't have enough hands and feet within my bag of Obitsu parts. Hands are, well... handy. Top, right- KidKraft Beachfront Mansion Of all the dollhouses I was looking at, this was the only one that has the bottom floor off the ground. All the rooms will be given paint/wallpaper, so they're set up for plain photo backgrounds. Since it won't be a "house" as much as a photo studio, I won't need the furniture that goes with it. Meh, I have enough doll furniture as it is. Even if I don't get this specific house, it's a nice example of what I'd like to build. Second, right- 60 spool thread rack After doing the math and my dad's shock at how detailed my plans were, I've realized it's easier just to buy this thing. Not sure if I've mentioned it before, but this will be for storing/displaying my spare heads. My current head storage case won't fit heads with long hair, and doesn't let me see what I have at a glance. With the small spaces, it's probably better for storing doll shoes or other miniatures. Bottom, right- 12-Case Photo Storage Carrier These little cases are to hold doll clothes, to help me see things better at a glance. The idea came from corsetkitten's blog post, which seem to be the same size. Each mini-container is a bit bigger than an index card (designed for storing 4in by 6in photos). This particular one from The Container Store is a set of 12 mini-cases that go inside one larger case. The mini-cases are also sold separately and in a 6-pack with an outer container. While these are in the order of "importance", they aren't in order of "what's likely to be purchased first". Most likely, I'd get Loki, the spool rack, the Obitsu items, the photo case, and then the dollhouse. With time and long talks with my counselor, I've been able to push away impulse "needs" and shine a light of practicality on the ideas. Oh yes, there are tons of little items I could say I want, but those things will be drops in the bucket compared to more important stuff. ========
As of October 2022 (nearly 10 years later), I have most of the items here. Loki was the first thing I got. To this date, he’s my most expensive doll ($220 + $50 body), but he’s my 2nd fav. (Jude is #1. Sorry bud.) No regrets at all. He’s the best-looking of all the Hot Toys Loki figures, too.
Dollhouse was more about inspiration, rather than purchasing that specific one anyway. Didn’t get the 23cm Obitsu body; just not a priority anymore. Did get the extra hands, and I love them.
Instead of photo boxes, I got larger document-sized boxes. They have clear covers and are stack-able. I’ve barely started to use them, so idk if they’ll work out. Even though I’m doing better this year, getting back into organizing and dolls is still tough.

Mini Fridge: I Love These Cool Coca Cola Mini Fridge
Tumblr media
Considering Coca Cola's status, it comes as no surprise that the Canadais home to so many stylish Coke mini fridges. Here, we'll take a look at some of the best Coke mini fridges available for purchase online and fill you in on all the details!
In other words, what exactly are Coke Mini Fridges?
Mini refrigerators called "Coke Mini Fridges" are designed to accommodate just a few bottles of the soft drink. They are lightweight and simple to use, making them ideal for situations when you need to keep beverages cool but don't have room for a standard refrigerator. Each mini fridge from Coca-Cola is programmed to store the purchaser's preferred soda.
What makes them tick?
If you're looking for a compact refrigerator to store drinks at work, a Coca-Cola model is a great option. These freezers are compact enough to store ice cubes, disposable cups, and other needs, but yet provide enough of storage space. Cubicles, dorm rooms, and businesses with less floor space benefit greatly from them. They're easy to stow away, don't take up much space on the ground, and can keep drinks cool. The mini fridge canada has an inside light to make keeping track of stock easier, and a thermal fuse to keep perishables from freezing solid.
Exactly what are the upsides of using a Coke Mini Fridge?
There are several considerations to make while shopping for mini fridges. First, how much room do you have? Does it take up just a little nook, or do you need to move your refrigerator and other appliances? Two, how much space are you going to need? When it comes to food storage, how long do you need to keep supplies on hand? As for the third question, what are your own tastes in terms of fashion? Is a classic mini-fridge more your style or something more up-to-date? When compared to other compact refrigerators, what, if any, are the advantages of a Coke Mini Fridge? One advantage of a Coke Mini Fridge is its stylish appearance. A Coke Mini Fridge is an attractive option for a little refrigerator that will complement the decor of any area. Also, you may change your furniture without disrupting your Coke Mini Fridge because of how portable they are. And last, eco-friendliness: Coke Mini Fridges utilize less electricity than competing models. They're compact and convenient to carry everywhere. In a confined area, they shine. They are applicable in every environment. The ability to safely and securely keep food and drink in them is invaluable.
Where to find Mini Coke Refrigerators near you
These are the finest sites to get a Coke mini fridge for sale, which will keep your beverages cool and fresh for a long time. If you own a small company and need a refrigerator, don't buy one from a big-box retailer. Mini-fridges by Coca-Cola are available at a number of internet stores. Koolatron.co.uk has the lowest pricing, and you may sometimes discover reductions of up to 50% there.
Conclusion
If you enjoy the notion of a mini-fridge but don't have a lot of room, you may get one that looks like a regular-sized fridge. Well, these wacky little Coke refrigerators may be precisely what you're searching for! In addition to their stylish appearance, they also include convenient storage for beverages and snacks. Also, they're compact enough to bring along on the go, so you can always have access to your favorite drinks and snacks. If this is something you think you might use at home, go ahead and peruse the options now accessible on the internet.
