Once again I'm thinking of the whole 'If Mina must be a vampire' passage. Because it's clearly established that, while Stoker's vampires retain some aspect of who they were as living people, it's only an aspect.
The vampire Lucy can do an imitation of the living Lucy, but it's not her, the behaviour looks wrong, and it repels Arthur, Quincey, and Seward, men who loved Lucy and knew her well. The person's soul is still in there (and is freed after the vampire is killed), but the vampire is Not the same as the living person.
But if Mina becomes a vampire - if Mina becomes a monster that walks and talks and acts a bit like the living Mina, but isn't her because her kindness and her intelligence is gone, then Jonathan will become a vampire too. He's willing to become the undead corrupted imitation of Jonathan Harker, because Mina's soul will still be in the vampire Mina somewhere, and he wants to be with her no matter what.

Honestly I don’t think I could bring any commentary to the table that nobody hasn’t already said but do you know how tragic it is to me that Quincey died after they had won. It’s a time that should be of celebration to the others but it’s quickly shadowed in darkness and pain. But on the flip side Quincey all the pain and despair he should have been feeling at dying was quickly overruled by the joy of victory of knowing that his friends (especially Mina) were ok

I'm never gonna forgive the Dracula TV show (the one with Katie McGrath as Lucy) for having Lucy pine but Mina not reciprocate (in the angstiest way possible), when in the original it's MINA who comes off the gayest of all.
Like, yeah, Lucy calls Mina "dear" and signs herself "your loving Lucy", but Mina's out here like "Lucy looks so sweet and lovely when she sleeps, imagine how in love her fiancé would be if he could see her like this"

I'm trying to convince my younger brother to read Dracula. He doesn't want to because he says it's too long and boring, and that he already knows anything he has to about Dracula, despite never reading or watching any sort of adaptation, due to general osmosis of the name Dracula.
Him: I already know about Dracula! A guy who goes around sucking blood! What else do I need to know?
