You still support Depp??? Holy shit
Uhhh it is a meme that it’s not even about Depp “Support” no I don’t support him neither am I his attorney, woe to all those poor people who have made supporting Depp or Heard a trait of their personality.
I believe this marriage did bring out all the worst in him as a person and he is now too far gone in alcohol and drugs making him an undesirable company at best, to anybody, and he is risking his very own life on the daily at this point.
However based on everything that has come out it is clear Heard married him to exploit him financially and otherwise, he fell madly for her and she took advantage of that, she did try to use Me_too for her ambitions, and it is reported that she has abused mentally and physically people close to her (girlfriends, family members, agents etc), including admitting initiating physical fights with Depp, and even by seeing her in promos, interviews and all that it screams she is a toxic person.
So I support neither in the active sense you imply, Depp proved to be too stupid, making all the wrong choices and then becoming a full on craphead during and beyond that marriage but if you think Heard is a victim and a good look for women, you can unfollow, cause yeah I don’t think the same at all, but either way I am not gonna be affected by whichever of these you believe.

What do you think about feminism and gender equality in Greece? Has it improved at all?
It depends on what your comparison is. If we are talking about the ‘50s and the ‘60s, it has obviously improved, following closely the pattern one can observe in Western European countries.
If we are talking about the last years, it has regressed for some weird reason. The last two years Greece has been suffering from a confusing explosive increase of femicides and domestic violence. There are a lot of theories about the reasons behind this: some say the pandemic forced toxic family members to be at home for longer and the already aggravated by social problems (unemployment, financial crisis, coronavirus lockdowns) psychological issues led to domestic violence skyrocketing . Another perspective is that domestic violence was really that prominent all this time but without the #Me_too movement and the social media’s support, women did not have the strength to seek help or flee their violent partner.
However, it is a matter of fact that we have so many murders of women or episodes so violent that reach the news, that absolutely were not happening at this rate a couple of years ago. Hence, the regression.
I believe a part of the problem is the unethical journalism and the alarming flaws of law enforcement. For example, when one of the first femicides took place - that of a young pilot killing his even younger wife and their dog, while managing to fool the media and the police for weeks that he was a loving father and a grieving husband, whose family was attacked by robbers, media fed on the image of the handsome, young “Babis” who played everyone like a fiddle. Babis became a name you heard every day in the media and in the households. Instead of not even daring to think the unthinkable, people would engage in mystery solving for fun until everything was eventually officially confirmed by the police.
Did Babis do it or not? Can’t be, he looked so sad in the funeral. He is handsome and rich, he looks like a good guy. No, he did it, his parents were aloof like they were hiding something. I can read behind the lines.
Babis murdering his wife Caroline became unacceptably normalised. It became mainstream and everyone started sharing their bullshit opinions. As Babis was becoming sort of an unlikely star for all the wrong reasons, more femicides started happening. One person of influence (an officer? I don’t remember) even said that “these murderers are stupid because if they called police and admitted to their crime and said they regretted it instead of trying to hide it, they would get a shorter penalty”!!!!!! This of course caused a massive uproar and he was forced to recall but the message remained: authorities giving tips on how to ensure a shorter penalty for the murder of a woman. I must say that the police made an official statement against that guy and I think he was fired or something, yet the people who should never learn that piece of information were helped tremendously.
It didn’t help that these last two years several famous, formerly popular actors were accused of violence and recurrent and often extreme sexual violence and perversion towards both female and male victims (and minors). It doesn’t help that all these dudes were put in the same VIP cells along with handsome young rich wife-killer Babis!!!!
In short, regardless of the public outcry against them, the same message is sent over and over: kill a woman and they won’t penalise you as bad as you fear.
I read a Greek article a few days ago and I am pissed I didn’t keep it. It was about a European committee coming to check the conditions in Greek prisons (a standard procedure for all EU members) and according to the article the committee was shocked. The prisons are in utter disarray, chaos, poverty and anomie. The living conditions of the non-VIP prisoners are inhuman. However, the even bigger problem is that the state does not hire guards and all prisons are overcrowded with many more inmates than they were built for while they are dangerously undermanned by guards. The worst, there were reported cases of “well-behaving” prisoners assisting guards in guarding other inmates!!!!!! I don’t remember whether it was stated plainly but the article certainly hinted at concerns for corruption in the police and guard staff. Please, don’t ask me about how prisoners in Greece are trained for their healthy re-introduction to the society. Excuse me while I am laughing.
Aside from the police and prisons, the mental institutions are also extremely problematic. They are undermanned as well and exploding with patients who do not live in proper conditions. There is an often discussed concern that mental institutions turn a blind eye and try to avoid hosting more patients because they don’t have where to put them. In short, people who needed to be supervised or treated with medicines and support by specialists return back to their families and neighbourhoods without following the doctors’ orders and the rest is (or can turn out to be) history.
Let alone that a stigma remains in Greece regarding mental health. Sometimes families simply won’t ask help for a family member even if co-existing with that person has proven unsafe or torturous.
Put all these data together and you have it. Social problems have aggravated gender discrimination and misogynism which then is reinforced by unethical journalism, corruption and all the grave institutional weaknesses in the country. Unfortunately, with the spread of social media use you can see the size of the problem: you have no idea how many seemingly normal men lose their minds whenever the word femicide is mentioned. I know for a fact that this is a common phenomenon in many countries, but here we are talking about Greece. And even if there are assholes in USA or Germany who don’t think this term is legit, it doesn’t make it any better that many Greek guys think the same.
On an official level - whatever that means - things are supposedly getting better. The PM made a female judge the Head of State for this exact reason. Showing the progress. Media, politicians and celebrities do urge women to open their mouths. The importance of consent is repeated over and over. Media side with female victims. Working equality improves. However, the lived reality of the last two years is very scary and the state seems to be at a loss of how to address and solve the emerging vicious monster.
Perhaps it can be easily concluded by what I wrote above, but women are not the only ones in increasing danger. There has been generally an increase in crime, regardless if the victims are women, minors, children by their parents (by their mothers too), animals. And men too. It is safe to say there is currently a crisis of values in Greece which becomes more and more unsafe to all, but above all towards women.

Quote
‘Let the jury consider their verdict,’  the King said, for about the twentieth time that day. ‘No, no!’ said the Queen. ‘Sentence first — verdict afterwards.’ ‘Stuff and nonsense!’ said Alice loudly. ‘The idea of having the sentence first!’ ‘Hold your tongue!’ said the Queen, turning purple. ‘I won’t!’ said Alice. ‘Off with her head!’ the Queen shouted at the top of her voice. Nobody moved.
