Slow - A movie review
My small hometown independent arthouse theater just hosted it's annual queer movie festival (Zebra Queergestreift Film festival).
Today is the last day and I watched "Slow" as a Sunday morning matinee screening.
The movie (Lith. original title "Tu man nieko neprimeni") by Lithuanian director "Marija Kavtaradze" tells the story of Elena and Dovydas.

Elena (played by "Greta Grinevičiūtė") is a dancer. She craves sexual intimacy and hops between one night stands and short term relationships, avoiding any real commitment.
Dovydas (played by "Kęstutis Cicėnas") is a shy interpreter for sign language helping hearing impaired people.
They meet during a dancing project for hearing impaired teenagers and quickly bond. Just as the extroverted Elena is ready to jump into her usual routine of quick offensive intimacy, he confronts her with the fact of being an ace person, asexual for as long as he can remember.
Feeling initially struck and insecure for the first time in her life, she begins to realize that she is still drawn to him and his honest, calm and rational demeanor.
They decide to give their relationship a try and begin to learn to handle each other's quirks and habits.
Of course they encounter expectable ups and downs, but I won't spoiler any more at this point, in case anyone gets the opportunity to watch the movie themselves.
In that case, I can absolutely recommend it.
Love is complicated, in all its variety through each known spectrum. As is life itself.
It all comes down to
Can a relationship survive the combination of asexuality and allosexuality?
Can a romantic relationship last simply of kisses and gentle touching?
Is love more than just "making love"?
How do both sides feel when exposed to each other's opposite without any safety net?
The movie cannot answer all these questions. It offers one possible way of interpretation, played by a sympathetic cast with multidimensional characters.
The rest is up for the audience to decide, to try or just to get a small measure of understanding for the complexity of a thing called...
L♥️VE
On a personal note: I think it can work out. I believe love is much more than just being intimate as two (or more) bodies. Love is the sum of that and a million other things. Gestures, looks, talks, touching or just being there for each other, even if it's just sitting quietly beside one another to just breath and dig in a view. You don't have to be asexual to believe that. Just be open for all means of love language...

Anyways, as for the films, the Sundace one that I talked about is shortlisted for the European Film Awards and will be in cinemas in the upcoming months in Lithuania, Sweden and Spain! This is the only one that I can tell you right now since the other ones are still not done. Hopefully this movie will get to more countries, either on cinemas or VOD.
