So I started watching Found. A show about a team of vigilante-adjacent civilians who search for missing people (specifically the ones that get forgotten by cops). Lead by Gabi Mosely, a former kidnapping victim who's now holding her childhood kidnapper locked up in her basement.

As one does.

And honestly it's pretty great.

Here's the trailer:

The relationship between Gabi and Sir (don't ask!) is just as much of an emotional landmine clusterfuck as you might think. And will probably appeal to the fans of stuff like Prodigal Son (in the sense that we've got the hero in a codependent association with their abuser as they try get that abuser to help them investigate and save other people from the things they once put other people through).

But there's also a pretty great team around Gabi and that part of the show will probably appeal to the people who enjoy shows like Leverage, The Equalizer and Lie to Me (which, coincidentally they actually kinda have Gillian Foster's actress as the Cal Lightman of the team... but with less ego).

So the team...

Gabi Mosely. The main character and the team leader. She's the crusader of the team. Cares about the victims so much. Is willing to do absolutely anything to reunite the missing people with their families.

Margaret Reed. Gabi's lead investigator who developed her deductive reasoning and Sherlock Holmes levels attention to detail after her son went missing. It's a non-superpower superpower.

She juggles the two sides of tragic optimism like a champ.

There's Dhan Rana. The muscle of the team with PTSD from his own time in captivity (details to be revealed but my personal current guess is time as prisoner of war... don't quote me on that though).

Very ride or die, especially where Gabi's concerned (I mean this in a platonic sense, he's got a husband).

Then there's Zeke Wallace. The tech support and occasional hacker for the team. Suffers from agoraphobia, ergo can't leave his apartment because of trauma from his own kidnapping (details unknown, but initial guess is that he was kidnapped for ransom, his family money seems to at least partially fund their operation).

There's also a token cop character named Mark Trent. He's... fine.

And finally, my favorite out of everyone there, Lacey Quinn. The law student moonlighting as legal assistant.

I've got a more detailed description of her role in the story but as it's a bit of a spoiler (though something that gets revealed within the first few episodes) I'm putting it under a cut (you can decide for yourself if a reveal that happens within the first three episodes is too big for you or not).

Lacey too was kidnapped as a child by Sir and then saved by Gabi when the two of them managed to escape. Since then the two have developed a very close sisterly bond.

Lacey however is NOT aware that her former kidnapper is locked up in Gabi's basement.

I noticed something all characters' traumas resulting in them being alone except Dhan.

Dahn: As a result of being held captive, he can't be alone. Does this inflected his marriage decision? How it affects his ways of dealing with his personal life problems.

Gabi: With Sir in her non soundproof basement. She couldn't keep dating Trent or even had anyone in her place. Trusting Sir to keep quiet when someone visited.

Margaret: Her loss and grief ended her marriage, abandoned her other kids, and asked to waive her parental rights.

Lacey: Her home is clearly her safe place. I can't see her inviting anyone in or trusting to go. maybe had some causal things.

Zeke: Same as Lacey. His trust issues and agoraphobia may cause a strain in his relationships.

I can’t wait until we get flashback episodes for everyone else on the team and their trauma stories. There defining moments.

Dhan being held captive, the mission where he got captured. His friendship with Mike.

Terrified Baby Zeke being abducted and crying for his mom and dad. Going home and finding that he can’t bring himself to leave.

Margaret turning around and finding her baby is gone. Watching her train her mind in desperation to find answers. See her relationship with her family crumbling.

Just more flashbacks please!!!

Found Finale and Review

(Couldn’t find a gif of the specific episode, so I found one to represent how I feel watching it. )

I finished Found! I just love the actress playing young Gabi! She is such a scene stealer! She kills it every single time! Don’t get me wrong, everyone does a good job on the show, but young Gabi has a special place in my heart.

I love the fucked up thing between Gabi and Sir, but I am so down bad for the “yes ma’m” thing between her and Trent. He adores her. He worships her. He can not live without her. He just won’t kidnap her and be fucked up about it like Sir.

Trent would do anything for her. He wants to protect her, but if she wants him out of her way he will move. He might fight her on it but he will move.

This last episode? So dynamic. Dhan and the conversation between him and his husband. The emotions between everybody, just reeling and spiraling! Especially Gabi! The erratic pacing.

Ethan showing up to Dhan’s job to confront Gabi??!?!? I know it’s serious and everything. But the petty drama of it all is sending me on a thrill ride of emotion and glee! I am ecstatic! (Sorry not sorry🙏🏾)

The abuse?? Wym it was the momma? The dad saying “hell won’t be a safe enough place for you?”Insane work.

I’ve never noticed “bad writing” in this show for real, but there’s a lot of questions this episode brings up for me. If a Grandma was a real one, I don’t believe they would ever put their grandbaby in some captive room. I think they’d handle it so differently, and I think a father would notice if a wife was hurting a child. However, it usually plays out in an ignorance is bliss kind of way. Because no one would believe their partner would be so lowdown to a child they brought into the world together. The logistics of that not being noticed is just hard to believe.

It’s all confusing to me, but the drama of it all was still entertaining.

Sir in that closest leads me to believe we don’t know what he is fully capable of. Everyone is growing and changing for the better over the years, so he has to be growing and changing into something worse. Like he might have new unlocked levels of creepiness and insanity we aren’t aware of yet.

I am so excited for season 2!

So the minute Margaret stops going to the bus station is when there will be new hope of her kid being found, right??

And if the show really wants to do something wild, have him be connected to the trafficking group we met earlier in the season. Maybe he was groomed into acting as a predator like the kid who just woke up from his coma?? I'm forgetting everybody's names but I find Margaret's story so compelling at far and I think they could do really interesting, and fucked up, things with it.

Both Gabi and Margaret being distracted and guilt ridden this episode had me with anxiety the whole time. I want more back story and flashbacks for them both. Learning that Margaret has 2 other children was mind-blowing. And Sir low-key had me convinced that Gabi asked for a friend even tho all that we know about her up until this point, that seems out of character. I want to know how Lacey/Bella will feel when she finds out that Gabi has Sir in the basement.
