This author and I do not agree on everything which is kinda exciting bc it makes you think and keeps you in your toes. Except for him calling Taylor Swift a brilliant songwriter. We have different ideas of brilliance.

Shine On, Syd - A Tribute to Syd Barrett
Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd – Shine On, Syd [2006] With Syd Barrett’s passing on the 7th July 2006, I decided to compile my own virtual collection (will fit on a single CD, I think) in honour of his music and influence. I included Pink Floyd songs that do not feature Syd’s playing, but that are definitely about him. I made a cover to look like an old cassette as if this really was a mixtape. And I…

Record Store Day 2022 announced Taylor Swift as its first-ever global ambassador, for its 15th-anniversary celebrations that took place on April 23rd. Another Record Store Day will take place on June 18th, 2022 to release items that were either delayed in production or could not be made in time for Record Store Day in April. Jack White has addressed this issue by calling out major labels who are overloading the pressing plants to invest in their own pressing plants. Listen as we discuss the issue and possible solutions, we talk about Erick's Record Store Day experience (for part 1), and we give Record Store Day advice for new collectors.

80s metal wasn’t really a subculture but a mainstream phenomenon, both in popularity and in ethos. “Instead of telling an alienated kid that it was okay to be different, metal seemed to say, “You’re not different at all,” Klosterman wrote. “In fact, you’re hyper normal. In fact, you’re extremely popular and totally cool.”
--
In rock-n’ roll, as in many human endeavors, eras of expansion and dilution tend to give rise to eras of retrenchment and purification, and vice versa.
--
The move from hair metal to grunge mirrored a broader cultural shift toward more casual styles and attitudes.
--
The promise of punk was that it offered room for practically everything -- in its broadest sense, loving punk meant being non-mainstream, a slippery and seductive identity that was often more appealing than the music itself.
--
Punk represents the universal human desire to be a little less universal -- to separate whatever it is you care about from whatever it is that other people care about.
--
... “I Wanna Be Sedated,” a maniacally upbeat song about boredom that has endured as a punk-rock anthem, perfectly evoking the genre’s twin preoccupations with fun and hopelessness.
--
Part of what was great about twenty-first-century punk was that it didn’t seem cowed by all those decades of punk history. Some versions of it found new ways to chase fun and try to chase away hopelessness. Other versions of it echoed the idealism of the Clash, without seeming indebted to the band itself. These kids seemed convinced that “punk” could be whatever they wanted it to be.
-
I sometimes wonder whether political convictions are replacing musical convictions as the preeminent mark of subcultural identity. Perhaps some of the kinds of people who used to talk about obscure bands now prefer to talk about obscure causes, instead.
But the adolescent impulse that fueled punk has not disappeared, and neither has the primacy of popular music.
And historically, the moments when everyone seems to be listening to the same songs are the moments when some people are brave and immature enough to say forget this and to start something new, or halfway new. That will probably always sound like a good idea to me.
--
Rappers are more exposed than singers because their form of expression is more similar to speech. And so rappers spend lots of time explaining who they are, what they’re doing, and why they deserve your attention.
--
I am drawn to music that starts fights, music that offends people. Listening to music is a social experience, and yet often the most consequential music is deemed to be antisocial, at least at first.

i dont think this is relatable to anyone but a lot of people i encounter have never heard of fall out boy but the thing is i dont know if theyve never heard of fall out boy or if they just dont know theyve heard of fall out boy. and youre thinking, well thats easy. list some singles. ok. which singles. because trying to figure out which fall out boy single someone is most likely to have heard is like throwing a dart at a map. do i start with sugar? centuries? light em up? thanks for the memories? if they dont know any of these songs does that tell me theyve never heard a fall out boy song? no. it tells me theyve never heard those ones. dance dance, this aint a scene, the phoenix, uma thurman, i don't care. and still someones gonna come out the gate swinging to pull the rug from under me and tell me a week later they did actually know fall out boy. theyve heard the last of the real ones.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying “the only one I feel bad for on that sub is the 19 year old” and while I definitely agree how awful and tragic it was that he was pressured into something like that which ended the way it did, I also feel that, after learning more about him, Paul-Henri Nargeolet deserves a lot more sympathy than he’s gotten

Virtual Collections: The Beatles Green Album | Brian Currin
The Beatles – The Green Album A virtual collection (this could fit on a single CD) to complete the Red and the Blue album series. Starts with an early version of ‘One After 909’ and includes some early singles and songs not composed by the Beatles, then some classic album tracks and finishes off with the 2 “artificially-created” Beatles songs from the mid-90s. (Originally appeared on Art Of The…

Something I don't understand is people's thought process when they call Harrow femme. Yes she has earrings but those are bone earrings. Weapons of Convenience. That's the necromancers version of having daggers in your boots and hidden axes in your coat.
She's shown to hate being put in a dress in HtN and she only cares about her appearance when she is being a GOTH NUN. But being a GOTH doesn't make you femme automatically. She keeps her hair short if she has the power to do so and she isn't THAT focused on being prestine. Has dirt under her nails from digging all night, and gets covered in fat and blood sweat so often. She is not afraid to be a gross little weirdo. I wouldn't necessarily call her butch either. She's a secret third thing but if I had to pick between butch or femme, it would not be femme.
[Disclaimer: this is not to hate people who call Harrow femme. I just think it's a little odd and worth putting my two] cents in
