Lomography Digitaliza Max Review: It's Fun and Easy!
It's less than $100!
One of the things I miss most about the darkroom is watching my image come to life in the developer. It was magical. Thankfully film photography is here to stay. However, the total hands-on approach isn’t always possible, so most photographers outsource their film and rely on professional labs for scanning. But, the associated costs can quickly add up and aren’t always feasible. The Lomography…

Yesterday I really got to use the Lomography Digitaliza Max with my homemade copy stand, & I have to say it was worth the investment. It made scanned 6 rolls of 35mm so much faster that what I was doing previously, & easily converted over to 120 scanning 6x7.
Everything I scan from now on will be going through this thing, it’s a joy to use.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Lomography Berlin Kino 400
The second black and white film from the pack of Lomography is this ISO 400 35mm film called  Lomography Berlin Kino 400.
Tumblr media
Obviously, it has more prominent film grain than lower speed films, e.g. its sibling Lomo Potsdam Kino 100, which I reviewed here some time ago. Along with visible grain come wonderful midtones, good sharpness and and overall classic look, giving the photographs distinct aesthetics.
Tumblr media
As the name of the film suggests, I went to shoot in Berlin, capturing random street impressions. Note that I haven’t used any filter, because I wantend to see how this film captures all light and colours first. The scans are pure, no contrast or sharpness added, just a tiny crop here and there.
Tumblr media
Lomo Berlin Kino 400 reminds me of Ilford’s HP5+ a lot. Even though Ilford has raised its proces for film significantly, they are still below the price for Berlin Kino. So if I would have to buy one, I would pick the Ilford film.
The Lomo film comes in a fancy tin can, though. So if you like to experiemnt, live the lomo philosophy, there is nothing wrong with Berlin Kino 400. It was fun, and the results are convincing.

i am truly so impatient because i have been so spoiled the past year. i was so used to having 1 day turn around on my film by a lab that was on my way home from work. i could scan it as soon as i got it on my ex's negative lab supply set up with his fancy $1000+ dslr.
i thought i'd be okay waiting for scans from wherever i get my film processed at when i moved to japan, but i was sooo fucking wrong. multiple labs told me it would be a week+ to receive scans. those magical labs in shinjuku that do same day turn around that i keep hearing about have a reputation for not doing a good job editing scans, or they're all under 1mb.
me being the spoiled brat i am, bought a scanning set up.
i could only afford the lomography digitaliza+ since i also had to buy a camera and macro lens for actual scanning ;-; . maybe one day i'll have a fancy negative lab supply set up but an entire kit from them is as much as i paid for my fujifilm x-t20.
i've had 2 finished rolls sitting here for almost a week now but i only have my camera and lens so far, so i used my ipad as a light source and elevated the negatives off of it with 2 sticky note pads.
my ipad has a matte screen protector on it, so the grain of that is visible through the scans and i handheld my dslr, so the images aren't as sharp as they will be once i get my full set-up. there's also probably some weird perspective shifts because there was no way i was holding my camera completely 90 degrees to the surface of the film. i also scanned them during daylight hours with my windows open lmfao.
but! i now have proof that the pentax 645n i picked up works, and there doesn't appear to be any super obvious issues with it. and i have proof that the fujifilm x-t20 i picked up works, too.
since moving to japan 2 weeks ago i have bought:
a medium format camera
2 lenses for it
2 packs of 120 film
a digital camera
a macro lens for it
negative lab pro
lightroom classic
a memory card
i am BROKE. i will not be buying anything else for awhile. but i guess i'm happy i could take advantage of the weak yen
v sad because i used the money i was going to put towards getting my tummy tattooed on the digital camera.
but i'm a film princess apparently so it had to be done.

Snowy fisheye
I drove to the mountain lodge, that weekend in February, I shot just a few photos there, but I forgot that I took this little camera with me, with an unknown film. It turned out, that film was in there for close to 15 years! I wasn't expecting much, but this one is quite nice.
Taken with Lomography Fisheye film camera, through its 10mm F8 fisheye lens, on a roll of Kodak Kodacolor 200 film. Scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 8100 film scanner.
