Yeah it was Nani's actress who lied. At some point she said sge was Native Hawaiian I believe on her dad's side, but it turns out she's just mixed White/Asian & I think she's coming at this from a "I was born in Hawaii so that makes me 'Native' Hawaiian" angle 🤨
I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to make assumptions on this stuff, but also……..yeah, this doesn’t surprise me. Articles just kept on saying she had Native Hawaiian ancestry, but the way they worded it made me skeptical. They put a lot more emphasis on the fact she and her family live there, and her father being Filipino. They were very loose when tracing where the claim she had Native Hawaiian ancestry came from

If you actually hate how Rachel Zegler disrespects the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, do not go see or stream the remake.
If you actually hate how Disney has turned the Lilo & Stitch live-action into a bad statement about race, do not go see or stream it.
If you actually believe that the original The Little Mermaid was perfect and needed no adjustments, and Eric was not a bland prince, do not go see or stream the remake.
If you actually thought that Emma Watson misread and mishandled the role of Belle, who, in the original, was expertly characterized, do not go see or stream the remake.
If you actually believe that the Genie wanted to be free, and Aladdin learned to trust, and Jasmine taught them both how, while the Live Action version ruined that, do not go see or stream the remake.
If you actually believe that the original Lion King movie was perfect and needed no bland NatGeoWild embellishment, do not go see or stream the remake.
If you actually believe that the Cinderella (2015) movie was a good remake, go out and buy the DVD—and then don’t go see and stream the other remakes.
Don’t do it. They don’t read our tumblr rants or watch our rage reels, but they count how many of us go see the new stuff. And they count our money as it goes into their bank account to fund the next one. And they count the time we spend on their streaming services. Teach them that we have standards, and the standards aren’t spectacle, and you can’t just buy us with soulless puppets of our favorite movies.
When you’re tempted to go hear the soundtrack play and listen to the dialogue you miss, just go watch the original. That’s what you really love.
#NotMyDisney alienated me with these last few movies, so I’m not playing the games anymore. Make movies for me, as if I’m the smart child you raised on good movies, or else I won’t go see them. If you guys want me, I’ll be waiting for the day that the Live Action Remake comes out, and then immediately streaming the original on Disney+.
Let ‘em measure how many seats are filled in their theaters, versus how many streams of the originals are playing on the same day.

Hide & Seek references compendium
I put so many little easter eggs and hidden things in my Hide and Seek fic, so here is my little ongoing list of references I purposefully put in the fic for those of you who like this kind of thing idk man
Chapter 1, Disney's Hercules: "Hey, Mack! Ya wanna buy a sundial?" Disney's Jungle Cruise: “Trader Sam’s! Come shop at Trader Sam’s! He’ll give you a great deal on shrunken heads! Two of his heads for one of yours!” the Holmes Hotel, Hugh's Pies is a reference to Nickelodeon's Jimmy Neutron series, Lilo's Stitches and Embroidery is a nod to Disney's Lilo and Stitch, "Crusty the Crab" is a nod to Spongebob Squarepants, Chell's Portal Stop is a reference to the game series Portal, and the final scene is from the ROTTMNT episode "Hidden City's Most Wanted".
Though this is not technically a reference or Easter egg, I wanted to add this note… I made a point of referring to Splinter as Lou Jitsu when he was mad or angry or selfish, and as Hamato Yoshi when he was scared or sad.
Chapter 2, Leo's determination to have Raph call him "the world's greatest ninja" is a reference to the film, Leo's quote "Land safely!" is taken from the episode "Mystic Mayhem" as well as the episode "The Evil League of Mutants", Leo's complaining to be leader is a nod to his future role, Raph referring to his father as a "sewer monster" is a reference to the episode "Man vs. Sewer", Splinter has a flashback from the episode "Goyles, Goyles, Goyles" and the line "OW! Why, you little--!" is also taken from that same episode.
Chapter 3, Mikey's dream is obviously a nod to all that he will do in the future.
Chapter 4, The origin of Lace Face from the episode "Man vs. Sewer".
Chapter 5, Phineas and Ferb "Escape from Phineas Tower": "That's some mole!" The line "Raph! Your enormous body is crushing me!!” is a reference to Disney's Lilo and Stitch, "sweater town" is a reference to the Gravity Falls episode "The Hand that Rocks the Mabel", the line "I didn't want to believe it, but... *sigh* science." is taken directly from the ROTTMNT film as well as a moment when Leo mentions that Donnie was wrong, Donnie uses two really's, a reference from the episode "Breaking Purple", Donnie gives Leo the comic seen in the episode "Jupiter Jim Ahoy!"
Chapter 6, Splinter's tv flips through several channels which include clips from media. These include a Thomas Sanders vine with "Weatherman Al", the quote "My leg!" from Spongebob Squarepants, part of the Fairly Odd Parents' theme song, Mrs. Cuddles' catchphrase "Let's be friends forever!", "I've got bad feeling about this" is a quote from Star Wars, the fake show about "Goosey" is an easter egg to @gooeseyleo and her Gooseyleo series. When Leo goes onstage, he does "a few improvised dance moves", which is a nod to Ben Schwartz and some dance moves he did in the Netflix improv comedy special "Middleditch and Schwartz”. The Lou Jitsu play the boys perform is a parody of the Godzilla franchise and the Pacific Rim films. Donnie's line "I strive for accuracy" is a reference to @sleepis4theweak 's comic (which I think about every gosh darn day), Horsebot-3000 and Splinter's line "I liked Horsebot-3000" are references to the show Community, season 3 episode 7: "Studies in Modern Movement".
Chapter 7, in the illustration Leo and Donnie are wearing Transformer and Decepticon t-shirts, respectively, and in the background you can see spray paint that spells out "Atomic Lass", as well as a drawing of the turtles' weapons.
Chapter 8, a young BEBOP AND ROCKSTEADY make an appearance, as does a very young Harvey Hokum from the ROTTMNT comics. When Bebop tries to sell Leo, he calls him “Shelly”, a reference to my pet turtle of the same name. In the illustration you can see a goldfish on the shelf, which is meant to be Piebald.
Chapter 9, How It's Made, APRIL O'NEIIIIILLLL, Harvey Hokum, Warren Stone and Kendra are referenced, "Operation Blue Suede Shoes" contains the title of a song, a reference to how in the show there are several similar code-names used for the characters ("Purple Rain" for Donnie, "Yellow Submarine" for April, etc.) Leo says that Mikey has empathy amplified, a reference to the fanfiction of the same name written by @filsa-mek on AO3.
Chapter 10, the boys watch "Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit". Leo promises to never leave Raphael alone and to always find him. Raph offers several scenarios that actually happen in the future where Leo searches for Raph - sewer monsters (a reference to the episode Man Vs. Sewer), getting captured by bad guys (the episode Bug Busters), and aliens attacking (the events of the film). The chapter as a whole is also based off of a few sketches I made - one of which shows the boys watching the film with Splinter, and one where Raph has a bad dream and wakes up to seeing he hurt Leo, who offers to help and gets the bros together for a turtle pile.
Chapter 11, the episode is heavily inspired by an episode of the audio drama series Adventures in Odyssey, specifically the episode "Mandy's Debut". The line "Wow, the shortcake of death" is a reference taken from said same episode! During Leo's flashback, a reference to the meme "She knocked that smug look off my face, but fourtunately I had a smaller smug look underneath" when Leo takes off his sunglasses to reveal a cooler pair of sunglasses underneath. Leo and Raph make a note to the fact that Leo is not the eldest in this universe.
Chapter 12, Raph, Leo, and Mikey teach April a game they play in the episode "Late Fee". When using sign language, Donnie tells Leo to "Stop yelling at me", which is inspired by a moment in Spy Kids 4. April introduces Raph to Ghostbear's starting career. Mikey repeats a line from the episode "Bug Busters", which is "Remind me not to ask questions anymore." Mikey uses the phrase "hydrate or die-drate", which is taken from a meme but is also something I say constantly as well. When in the Hidden City, Splinter hears people calling out to customers, one uses the lyrics to the Fairly Odd Parents' theme song, another is selling Mary Poppins' umbrella, a third is selling the three mystery journals from Gravity Falls, the fourth is selling Cinderella's glass slippers, and the last one is selling the Stanley Parable bucket of reassurance. Ochimizu is a Japanese mythical elixir of eternal life. The introduction and origins of Loathsome Leonard and the Mud Dogs. Malicious Mickey uses the "creepy doctor" line from "Stuck on You".
Chapter 13, Donnie delirium is directly based off of my own experiences with delirium, as well as his and Leo's conversation about whether or not Leo would miss him when he dies (which was an actual conversation I had with my mother when I was sick with croup as a little girl). The second half of that conversation was adapted from a scrapped fic called "The Kids Are All Dying". Donnie references the song "Big Yellow Taxi". The seven-tailed fox comes from Japanese folklore, but specifically this one was a reference to Naruto! Mikey sings the first line of the "Wonderfilled" song by Owl City. The secret ingredient being a discontinued soda was inspired by the ending of the musical "Be More Chill". The toad yokai becomes Heinous Green.
Short story, in the illustration you can see several signatures and sketches on Leo's cast, such as Raph signing "Mad Dawgs" and Mikey drawing his stickers. On the wall behind Leo is an eye exam that has the words "RISE" and "PHOEBE" on it. There's also a computer monitor in the back with Leo's vitals on it, as well as a notification about the trackers, and a list of all Hamatos Donnie tagged.

Some people think that Sera and Emily are mother and daughter but they are actually sisters. In a leak character sheet it says that they are sisters, but they have a mother daughter relationship. Sera much older and wiser then Emily, Emily is naive and childish ( but she is so cute for that😍). They have a Lilo and Nani relationship from Lilo and stitch, we’re Nani is her legal guardian, plays the mother role but is still her older sister.

I got this idea off of @aphrodite-desires so all the credit goes to her/they/he/ whatever pronouns they prefer :)
So lets start of with the fact you were like 5 and your sister had taken you to pandora as a fun trip new flash it was not fun she left you there on purpose you family not really thank you mother/father caring for you but they had no idea they were devastated that you were gone
But anyways jake sully was hunting in the forest with neteyam and they see you sitting down crying jake was confused why were you out here with no family and no oxygen mask
Before jake could reach neteyam he ran to you he was a bit taller than you most of your height being your hair he spoke to you in na’vi “what's your name” you didn't understand so you kissed him jake was alarmed and neteyam was bright red
“Im sorry thats how my people learn new languages through the tongue of kissing” neteyam was dark dark blue and his father could see it “how old are you kid” “i’m 7” “where are your parents?” you started tearing up again “my sister left me here”
After that whole thing jake and brought you back to the home tree neteyam had getten to know you better but jake was still hesitant as well as the other na’vi a child with bright red hair and eyes of emeralds in there village
Neytiri didn’t like you at first but when she realized that you were just a child a alien from a different family they left you here with no one to love you and she would fill in that role of the mother love you as her own child
When you got older your powers started developing you were able to fly when you were happy and excited it allowed you to be with your dad and mom they were still hesitant about it but they allowed it but when you were upset you couldn’t seem to
When kiri lock and tuk were born you may have been smaller but they still loved you and besides you could lever up to their height
Also back to your powers you had super strength heat vision, flight and beauty like in the comics its known that starfire had the beauty to attract everyone and everything even the na’vi loved you boys were proposing to you left and right and you were always too nice to be mean to them unless they took it too far which evolved into another thing that you had when you get angry or to excited your hair gets on fire along with your skin was fiery hot
You never really had much interest for hunting but your brothers would drag you out into it lo’ak specifically
You never really liked spiders as well so when he was there you got annoyed
But more on relationship with your brothers and sisters
With neteyam after you kissed him you guys got better friends and became each other opposites he was always the golden child up tight and you were loose and care free but was still ready for action you always helped him with things like not be the golden child and let him have fun every once and a while
With kiri you and her are ride or dies when she watches her moms old videos she compares your big bright red curly hairs to her and you are able to help her in anyway way you are and she helps you she knows that your family was mental abusive and they hated you besides you mom/dad that loved you but you guys are there for each other
With loak sweet little brother i could definitely see you guys being like lilo and stitch “she's touching me” i’m not touching you”
^ little drabble about this you and lo’ak were chilling in your home jake and neytiri were there too you were playing around and he had his finger in your face not touching you but to close for you liking “ he's touching me!!!” you said dramatic lo’ak responded with “I'm not touching you” “yes you are!” lo’ak then did something stupid “It's free airrrrrr” then you blasted a light bolt close to him “Ahroifharth mom she tried to kill me” jake then comes over and picks you both up by the feet and said “both of you stop it” you and lo’ak looked at each other then back at him and stuck your tongue out at him he rolled his eyes and neytiri laughed “ma jake your acting like them” jake then put you down gently and lo’ak down a little less gentle “loser” “blue giant” “carrot head” “big cat” jake then shouted not seriously “get out do something with your life the both of you!” but anyways you and lo’ak are actually really close but you and him are always getting in trouble together even though its mostly him and you getting dragged into it (or the other way around if you want)
Now tuk you and her were so close she loved you and your hair she played with it all the time and oh she loved when you took her on flights she adores your eyes and your powers but you adore her you tell her stories all the time and she brings you flowers of all kinds
But anyways your relationship was jake was sweet it was so genuine when you first came and he taught you things he still sees you as his little girl with you green eyes and bright red hair he used to snuggle you until you couldn’t breathe and when those stupid village boys would ask you out he swelled in pride when you told them no
But neytiri was a whole different level she loved the fact that you were different but still fit in she loved you laugh it was contagious, sweet and genuine so she couldn’t help but laugh with you she loved your as everyone did in your family her favorite moments is when you would go over her song chord while she braided your hair or she singed them to you while you curled up in her lap
When you guys went to the metikyana clan ronal didn’t like you but you got angry easily so your hair started chatting fire just a bit and lo’ak hit you and said “hey fireball calm down before you burn the village” you glared at hit “shut the hell up lo’ak” tsireya liked you alot but there was one that caught your attention the other son of tonowari Huyo he was tall brave had tattoos and had a scar on his face and tattoos over his body his was obviously older maybe about 2 or 3 years older roughly about 18/19 and he was kind and sweet
Your family had obviously you catching his eyes and tuk started shaking your hand “y/n stop staring at him” that caught his attention and he smiled over at you “tukkkkk”

Okay, I can’t believe I have to explain this, and I doubt I’m the first person to do so, but here we go:
ARIEL being played by someone with darker skin in the Little Mermaid remake is OKAY because, in the end, she’s a mermaid. Her skin colour is completely irrelevant to the story.
NANI being played by someone with lighter skin in the Lilo and Stitch remake is NOT okay because her skin colour and heritage is important to her story. Lilo and Stitch is the story of an Indigenous Polynesian family SPECIFICALLY.
“Oh but you wouldn’t get upset if a white character was played by a POC-” WRONG. It’s just that a white character’s whiteness is rarely important to the story. I can think of two exceptions to this right off the bat: John Smith from Pocahontas and Merida from Brave. These characters HAVE to be white, because cultural background plays a large role in their respective stories. It’s similar to how Tiana HAS to be black.
Stop comparing the justified outrage over Nani being light skinned to the bigoted outrage over Ariel being black. They are not the same.

These two REALLY shine in the series from the 2000s but they're an underrated couple anywhere. They've got odd couple vibes and then basically get adopted into the ohana as Lilo's weird aunt and uncle. Pleakley is Jumbaa's moral compass but he's also a little anxiety ball and Jumbaa grounds him (also he's probably an egg). They hug SO MUCH. They adore each other. My OTP for life honestly.

We love a powerful girlboss opening the poetic heart of a shy boy. They are beautiful and goals
Dodger and Rita Oliver and Company
Though not explicitly together as far as I can remember, I always liked to imagine there was some sort of romance going on. Even as a little kid I thought they would be very cute together! It's literal puppy love!
Felix and Calhoun Wreck-It Ralph
We all just need more small and squishy guy and hardened woman who has killed and would do it again romance
Nani and David Lilo and Stitch
Has any boyfriend ever been as supportive as David is for Nani?!
Mike and Celia Monsters Inc.
Call each other sweet yet kinda gross from the outside nicknames in public (Smoochie Poo and Googly Bear/Woogly), stare lovingly into each other's eye (see attached photo), the restaurant date with him was Celia's "best birthday ever." They did have a pretty big fight/misunderstanding, but were quick to reconcile and neither holds a grudge about it. Celia is supportive/proud of Mike's success in revolutionizing the energy industry with laugh power, and Mike clearly thinks very highly of her too. Also their relationship is never demeaned or played for laughs even though she fits the standard tall, pretty woman role and he the standard short, less charismatic "sidekick" type, and maybe because it's monsters and not people, but lots of movies would try to pair her with Sully, make their relationship a reward for Mike, or make a lot of jokes about it. But no, they're just really into each other and sweet about it (and yes there was a big fight but 1. plot relevant and necessary, and 2. they get through it). Couple goals.
Flo and Ramone Cars

During a bit where they hide in the restaurant, Kuzco enthusiastically dresses in drag and pretends to be Pacha's wife. Pacha tells the waitress its their honey, with the waitress saying something about it "being brave to come out today", which could have two different meanings. After the movie and Kuzco returns to being a man, he doesn't get together with any woman like most films would. Instead, he finds himself a found family with Pacha, his wife, their two kids, and Kronk. If that's not queer-coded, I don't know what is.”

His mannerisms, his complete lack of a female love interest, the way his solution to hiding being a talking llama is to pretend to be Pacha's wife (???). His role model and only parental figure is a dramatic older woman played by Ertha Kit. And it's not just Kuzco; Kronk most certainly has the vibe to him. The casual gender non-conformance is off the charts. The Emperor's New Groove was a Disney movie that skirted under the corporate radar, made with very little input from the company itself. It is one of a kind and there will never be another one like it.”

Now, I'm not claiming to know what's happening in the writing room in the Lilo and Stitch live-action remake. And while I'm sure colorism is a factor, there's at least native Hawaiian representation (idk about the ethics of saying if someone is visibly "Hawaiian enough" to play a role...)
That being said, watching the casting decisions does have me feeling that Disney is going to remove the fangs from Lilo and Stitch, particularly with the removal of Bubbles.
See, Lilo and Stitch was (for it's time) a rather scathing commentary on the commodification of Hawaiian culture and the issues of tourism and the profitability of exotica. I think Bubbles being a social worker who came from America was part of this. See, America has a tiny (really big) tradition of taking indigenous children from their homes, whether in an attempt at genocide by erasing their culture and breaking up the community or because having an exotic/indigenous baby has always been a lovely way to gain social clout is up in the air (honestly, it's probably both). Bubbles raised the stakes of the series because instead of following ICWA guidelines (or attempting to...where there'd be a high chance of Lilo staying on the island or within visiting distance from Nani) Nani thinks that she's never going to see her sister again.
Bubbles choosing to sponsor the family at the end and leaving them their house and in their neighborhood is kind of a guide. A "if you want to help families with financial problems, don't separate them, sponsor them" sort of message. Help them stay together not by taking money the government would've given you for taking this child but by giving the struggling family financial stability and a support network.
By making Bubbles Native Hawaiian it's more likely that ICWA protocol will be followed (even if Native Hawaiians don't receive protection I still think she'd try in a story sense of "having power in the community" just reads more disney than "being threatened by this outside and distinctly American force" at best it might mean the "evil force taking Lilo away" might be faceless and nameless and distinctly off screen and "definitely not America (tm)" ) and sort of runs the risk of obscuring or even removing the message that tourism and America is destroying the community.
Now, I'm not saying the script doesn't have a work around but with Disney's live action history I am concerned.

Lilo, Jumba, Captain Gantu, and Angel are racing to Disney Speedstorm!
Lilo & Stitch is going to burn rubber onto Gameloft's Disney Speedstorm soon!
This past week, beginning from July 17, 2023, the game's official social media accounts on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube have been sharing concept art for the new Lilo & Stitch track environment that will be added in the game's third season (and the last season for its early access period).
But Gameloft also took the opportunity to tease the four other Lilo & Stitch racers who will be joining Stitch in the new season by hiding the syllables of those racers' names in the concept art. (Zoom in on the images above!) These were followed by a full reveal of their character and kart renders the very next day.
With Lilo Pelekai, Jumba Jookiba, Captain Gantu, and Experiment 624/Angel ready to tear up some Hawaiian roads, plus two more mystery racers from other Disney franchises joining them, this looks to be Disney Speedstorm's biggest season yet before its full free-to-play release on September 28!
Plus, considering that Speedstorm features voice acting, with many of the various Disney and Pixar characters' original voice actors reprising their roles, this will be the first time in years that Lilo & Stitch and Disney fans will get to hear the beloved little Hawaiian girl Lilo talk again and possibly hear Kevin Michael Richardson, who last voiced Gantu in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (2010), bringing his deep and authoritative voice back to the massive whale-like alien that put him on the map. Moreso, Angel's original voice Tara Strong could finally be voicing Stitch's pink alien siren girlfriend for the first time since Leroy & Stitch seventeen years ago (unless Gameloft decides to go with her Stitch! anime voice Kate Higgins or another actor). Jumba, meanwhile, will be getting a different voice from his original Western appearance, as David Ogden Stiers died back in March 2018. There is a chance that his anime and Stitch & Ai voice Jess Winfield could be voicing the evil genius again though since the latter's English release; if that's the case, then this will be the first time Winfield voiced Jumba in a Western-produced work.
Season 3 of Disney Speedstorm will be released next month during August, following the conclusion of the Toy Story-focused Season 2: To Infinity and Beyond. As of this writing, the game is currently available in paid early access for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PCs (via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and the Epic Games Store).

Saw the casting for a woman POC to play a childcare services worker in the live action Lilo & Stitch.
"There are over 7,275 child welfare caseworkers currently employed in the United States. 83.6% of all child welfare caseworkers are women, while 16.4% are men"
I’m going to need everyone to reaaally take off the “placing women in male roles is 100% better 100% of the time” glasses and realize that
if they DID replace Bubbles with her OC character they just replaced a POC man in a woman-dominated career with... a POC woman in a woman-dominated career.
