As much as I generally like Tumblr more than say, Twitter.
Or even you know. The disgusting hive mind that is reddit or TikTok.
The terfs of Tumblr are the most unbearable, self righteous, perpetually angry, chronically online group of misanthropes you'll ever encounter.
Like Twitter is full of hate, in every flavor, but it's muted. It's like some insane opinions, some more moderately insane opinions, and then some truly batshit, how did anyone ever think of that stuff.
But here. You say like, trans people are literally just people, and then some radfem terf tribal leader comes out of nowhere with her army of frothing attack dogs with mouths full of rabies and they co opt entire posts.
They attack everything you say, and then things you don't say, accusing you of being a misogynistic porn lover or a tranny or a man masquerading as a woman or a self hating misogynist woman.
And it's like oh wow.
There is a reason Tumblr was and still is called hellsite.
It may be gayer here than most sites, but your main enemy is so uniquely Tumblr that it becomes unbearable and horrible in its own flavor.
I have had some asshole conservatives on my posts. I have had some incels saying some stupid shit. But they get laughed at and bullied normally.
But here? Well shoot. All it takes is one annoying terf whose entire life mission is being on Tumblr, preaching the words of pastor bill in the form of gender politics.
And then her squadron of piecemeal worms come out of the dirt or nearby shit hive where they live and start gnawing at flesh like the ravenous hordes of cannibals they are.
It'd be embarrassing if it wasn't so sad.
What do you think you're doing, anyway? Advocating for women's rights from the comfort of your armchair? Are you actually helping women, are you supporting domestic abuse charities, are you volunteering at battered women shelters, are you going outside even once or twice to discuss real systemic issues that affect women, or are you just a spiteful, angry, misanthropic, jaded loser who spends all their time being angry and going on witch hunts and spewing venomous bile online at strangers?
You know that neo Nazi fuck, Andrew Anglin, used to be a hardcore liberal who liked trolling the Westboro baptist church?
I suspect that most terfs don't really have a morality behind it, you're just a re vamped version of anger addicted. You like to bully and belittle and deride, but you've grown up on movies that have hammered in just how much bullying is bad. So you need a different way to bully, a liberal way to bully, and look who it is!
A catty group of popular white girls with the southern white woman tactic of weaponizing victimhood. Your true people. White recognizes white. You think your righteous rage is fair and just and liberal and you're nothing like those chauvinistic sexist patriarchal neo Nazis?

First off you support neo Nazis far more than you'll ever support the LGBT community or even women. Second, you might as well join the neo Nazis since your definition of a real woman is just a patriarchal depiction of the proper biological breeding slave with a vagina and child bearing hips.

(okay, it's getting late and my stomach is unhappy with me for some reason, but I'll still try and get some way into this episode... You know, by my standards at least.)
... I can't even imagine how terrifying that must feel. Before he could always pass it off as not wanting to disappoint his father or needs must or whatever. Now though? When he wants nothing more than to go back to Marinette, consequences be damned and he can't? Not because he's scared or he's locked in or his bodyguard is there. But because his body won't move. Because the hand that is on the door will not open it. His eyes say it all honestly.
... Imma kill him. Consequences and jail time be damned. I'm going to kill him. I don't care if this hasn't happened in my timeline yet, I warned this *bleeps* that if he messed with the relationship between Adrien and Marinette I would intervene. That if he tried to break them up I'd tell the world his secret. Now? Oh no. Now I'm calling up Lila, and Felix. Hopefully his appearance in this episode will give me some idea of his goals but otherwise? Well getting that bloody ring away from him seems as good a goal as any.
... she's on Jagged Stone's list of suppliers, got an offer from Chloe's mother to go to New York, has her own website, does the costumes for Kitty Section, which has already been promised a deal by Bob Roth on television, AND would have the seal of approval from your son regardless of what you say. Things I've seen tumblr memeing about James Somerton doing à la "How did no one see how bigoted he was!" as if those things haven't been a significant part of tumblr culture for over a decade :
Presenting untrue and bordering on conspiratorial versions of (queer or otherwise marginalised) history without any sources
Completely disregarding and disrespecting any expertise on socio-cultural topics/humanities and distrusting academics and historians (incl. acting as if no academics or historians could be queer or marginalised)
Downplaying the role misogyny played in the historical oppression of queer women and concluding that queer men must have been more oppressed than queer women
Bi women are, at best, not as queer as "real" queer ppl, and at worst, simply equivalent to straight women
Despite nominal trans inclusivity, transmasculine ppl are functionally women when convenient (combined with the above, bi transmascs are functionally straight women)
Despite nominal trans inclusivity (bis), shamelessly attacking, threatening and actively endangering any trans woman who questions them or smth they find important (often by unfairly presenting her as violent or as a threat)
Having absolutely fucking wild and reductive takes about ace ppl, the oppression they face and their place in the queer community
Stating that marriage equality is an assimilationist fight while completely ignoring its direct roots in the horrifying consequences of the AIDS crisis for partners of ppl who died of AIDS
Praising western media creators from the past for queer coding even under censure and in the same breath condemning current non western media creators for being homophobic bc their representation isn't explicit enough
Blaming China for all existing homophobic censoring in western media
Assuming all queer media would be better told by western creators and by western standards
Only out queer ppl get to tell queer stories
Heavily criticising almost all queer media created by women or ppl they see as such (see above points about trans ppl) or involving/starring a significant amount of women for any perceived or real amount of "problematicness", but fawning over and praising and negating criticism of queer media created by and starring mostly or even functionally exclusively men (even when it could be argued that, you know, not involving/seriously sidelining women is a pretty clear example of misogyny which should probably be considered "problematic")
And I'm probably forgetting stuff or there's stuff I have internalised myself and don't recognise as an issue
Like idk but I feel like the takeaway from Hbomberguy and Toddintheshadow's videos should maybe be "be aware of such patterns in your communities bc they definitely exist" and not "this guy is uniquely awful" and I feel like a lot of the discussion I've seen surrounding this has been severely failing at that. Most ppl who've spent any significant amount of time on tumblr prob either have internalised at least one of those thought patterns, have had to de-internalise them, or have had to be extremely vigilant to not internalise them (which is done by, you know, seeking out other sources, which also seemed like an important takeaway from the videos)
#Also I'm saying this as someone who actually watched quite a few of Somerton's videos#And noticed those patterns and stopped watching bc I recognised them from here#and had already learned to unlearn them after being so exposed to them here#And tbh I think anyone who hasn't had the luck or made the conscious choice to seek out ppl who pushed against those narratives#Would absolutely have fallen for this man's bullshit. Like let's not kid ourselves we see takes like this every day on this hellsite#2014 me would have. Y'know, there's this gripe I've had for years that really frustrates me, and it has to do with Love, Simon and people joking about it and calling it too-pg and designed-for-straight-people and all the like. (A similar thing has happened to Heartstopper, but that's another conversation.)
I saw Love, Simon in theaters when it came out my senior year in high school. I saw it three times, once with my friends/parents on opening night, once with my brother over spring break, and once with my grandparents.
On opening night, the air in the room was electric. It was palpable. Half the heads in there were dyed various colors. Queer kids were holding hands. We were all crying and laughing and cheering as a group. My friends grabbed my hands at the part where Simon was outed and didn't let go until his parents were saying that they accepted him. My friend came out to me as non-binary. Another person in our group admitted that she had feelings for girls. It was incredible. I left shaking. This was the first mainstream queer romance movie that had ever been produced by one of the main five studios, and I know that sounds like another "first queer character from Disney" bit but you have to understand that even in 2018 this was groundbreaking. Getting to have a sweet queer rom-com where the main character was told that he got "to breathe now" after coming out meant so much to me and my friends.
But also, from a designed-for-straight-people POV (which, to be frank, it was written by a bisexual author and directed by a gay man, this was not designed for straight audiences), why is it a bad thing that it appealed to the widest possible audience? That it could make my parents and grandparents see things in a new light? My stepdad wasn't at all interested in rom-coms but he saw it with me because it was something I cared about and he hugged me when we came out of the theater. My very Catholic grandparents watched it with me and though my grandpa said he still didn't quite understand the whole 'gay thing,' all he wanted was for me to be happy and to have a happy ending like Simon did. My Nana actually cried when Simon came out and squeeze my hand when his mother told him he could breathe.
And when Martin blackmailed Simon, my mom, badass ally that she is, literally hissed "Dropkick him. Dropkick him in the balls" leading to multiple queer kids in the audience to laugh or smile. Having my parents there- the only parents, by the way, out of my group of queer and questioning friends- made multiple people realize that supportive adults were out there. That parents like those in Love, Simon do exist in real life.
When people complain about Heartstopper not being realistic or Love, Simon being too cutesy, I remember seeing Love, Simon on opening night. I remember my friend coming out and my stepdad hugging me and my mom defending us through this character. I remember the cheers that went through the audience when Bram and Simon kissed and the chatter in the foyer after the movie was over and the way that this movie made me understand that happy endings do exist.
Queer kids need happy endings. Straight people need entry points to becoming allies. Both of these things can come together in beautiful ways. They can find out about more queer culture later, but for now, let them have this. Let them all have a glimpse at a better, happier world. Let them have queer joy.

So, after my discussions with Lila... Please don't ask... Let's get back to the future shall we? Good on Marinette for standing up to her idol. And especially for doing designs for her grandparents. Still waiting for the world to end but hey, maybe we will avoid that scenario this time around.
So, big heartful speech from Marinette that I'm not going to do the disservice of cutting pieces out of, and we get outfits/pieces for all her friends. One, how incredibly sweet is that? And two, she's making earrings and necklaces. She's doing the jewelry as well people, I feel that should get a lot more attention than it does. And of course Gabriel is one to talk about playing dress up with dolls... Which is a sentence I'll leave there because Adrien deserves better. Do wonder if my hoodie is in there somewhere though.
Well, he said it. Not me. Not a pleasant picture you're painting about the fashion industry Gabriel. Makes me wonder if he even cares about it anymore or if he does it just for the financial resources and keeping up appearances? Never took him for the type to consider being 'out of fashion' as bad as Chloe makes it out to be.
He does it for the control, gotcha. Again there was a whole speech about it but it just makes me want to punch him more and Adrien wouldn't like that. But to imply that Marinette has fallen under the spell Gabriel crafted around Adrien? Like EVERY. OTHER. GIRL. he lets be around his son? Oh that pissed me right off. What do I mean? Chloe. childhood friends but only because her parents are as important as his. Not her fault but still part of Gabriel's world. Lila. The only reason she hangs with Adrien is for power and the only reason Gabriel allows her is to keep his son in line. Kagami. Was literally crafted to be a part of said world! Man I hate this guy. Next scene.
*sighs* second verse, same as the first. I'm going to kill him. What else is there to say at this point except the guy has gone nuts? He's so obsessed about controlling everything, creating this perfect world that nobody but him can achieve, surely he must have been sane at some point right?
Okay, saving the most important thing for last. Suck it Gabriel, you go Marinette and aww how sweet. Now, need I point out that he was still standing at the door? That entire conversation he's been either trying to leave, or waiting for permission to return to Marinette's side. How on earth must that feel for him? To know what you want to do but have something unseen keep you from doing it? (For me it's just called motivation. Ayo!)
Now... Is it just be or do both of them seem slightly scared of Marinette here? Sure it may just be surprise or uncertainty but I'm just going to believe that these two grown men are terrified of a 15 year old girl. Why? Because it's hilarious.
Oh yeah, he's stunned. Also she's dissing the pancakes she didn't even eat, she's that good a baker. You tell him Marinette. I wonder how long it will take before I lose this giant grin on my face?
