Can I request a Leon x reader for RE4 remake? :0
Reader is one of the missing hikers that was mentioned during the opening cutscene and managed to escape the villagers just as she runs into Leon on his way to the lake. Leon has her come with him, even reader helping him keep Ashley safe, and during the whole mission, they start to develop feelings and Leon gets more protective. Can even be suggestive- especially during the chained scene if you want. 😳
A/N: Since I got one more request about this scene specifically I'll do a part two with the smut
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: mentions of violence, fem!reader, not proofread
part 2
Tumblr media
Darkness was all (Y/N) could see as she took cover in the cool, shadowy tunnel, using its gloomy nooks to hide from the locals, whose inhumane rage almost caused her horrific doom. Her entire body shook, her heart thumped loudly in her ears as the adrenaline in her veins was still in abnormal amounts. Images of what she saw haunted her and even now she was safe she trembled in fear as the awful memories resurfaced, making it even harder for them to catch her breath. Sounds of footsteps caught her attention; tears formed in the corners of her reddened eyes; her breath hitched. The sound grew louder and soon after she was able to make out the silhouette of a man; frozen in fear, (Y/N) couldn’t move as the man was slowly nearing her. Her (E/C) irises were glued on him so much so she didn’t notice her foot was poking out of the safety of the shadows.
Carefully, her gaze followed his movements; her fisted rolled, taking a hold of any object that was underneath her. Her poor heart was on the verge of exploding; her chest rose and fell in an unnaturally quick pace as her breathing grew shallow. A yelp ripped past her lips at the sudden force hitting her foot; a thud echoed on her right. Cold sweat broke out on her skin; her eyes widened in utter horror as she was faced with the man and more importantly the barrel of his gun. In that split moment she surrendered to her fate; and at this exact moment the thought of a quick painless death was a blessing in comparison to the horrors she witnessed in the cruel village, the screams of the poor police man will forever be imprinted in her conscience. Yet the freeing moment she expected never arrived and instead of the gun she saw an inviting hand once she peeled her eyes open.
“Are you hurt?” She barely made out the words, for her anxiety driven mind was far too hazy for her to comprehend.
“Why didn’t you do it?” Her voice was quiet, her glassy eyes bore into his; his heart clenched, a smear of guilt weaved in his features.
Shouts anchored the attention of the two; dozens of villagers lurked about the end of the tunnel, the lights of their torches threw light on the barricade the two were hidden behind. Chills ran down her spine at the sound of sickles and hatches flying by her, she wasn’t ready to go through this, not again.
“You’ll have the time to thank me later.” The mysterious man took a hold of her hand and dragged her in the opposite direction.
Tumblr media
“So, what brings you here?” (Y/N) spoke up breaking the unnerving silence.
“I could ask you the same thing.” He answered not even turning around to face her; she let out a deep sigh.
“Okay let me guess.” She tapped her chin, stimulating her logical thinking. “You definitely aren’t here on a vacation, judging by your… gear.” She paused as she observed the arsenal of weapons resting right on his back.
“Go on.” His foot stomped on a wooden box, demolishing it with just the force of his limb; impressed by his strength, (Y/N) fell silent as she looked at him with awe.
“Now’s my turn.” He turned around, finally facing her after the frenzy of running from villagers the two had gone through. “You’re a hiker, who got lost and now you’re here.” She was at loss of words, yet the puzzled, hurt look on her face didn’t fail to reflect the state of her heart.
“Are you a clairvoyant or what.” The mysterious man chuckled before e knelt down to pick up a box of what looked to be ammunition; the muscles of his back and shoulders flexed as he then stood up, the leather of his fingerless gloves tightened around his fist.
“Can I at least know the name of the guy that saved my ass.” She asked, in attempt to distract herself from the newfound subject of her interest. He turned to face her; the sunrays highlighted his features that she hasn’t had the time, nor opportunity to observe. His hair was a beautiful blond color, the strands of which appeared gold under the light of the setting sun; his jaw and cheekbones were defined and smooth as if he wasn’t a human being but rather a marble sculpture, carved by the most skillful of craftsmen. The irises of his eyes were a mixture of different cobalt blue hues each prettier than the previous, every shade made for a whirl of unreadable emotions that were contained deep within him, enhancing the intensity and mystery to him.
“Leon Kennedy.” Immediately, her attention was anchored to his full, silky-smooth lips and to the Adam’s apple that bobbed up and down as he spoke. “It’s rude to not introduce yourself, you know?” He looked her up and down, his gaze both judgmental and intrigued.
“It’s (Y/N).” Her gaze shied away from his prying one that ironically also drew her in with a strong invisible force.
“Okay, (Y/N) you’re gonna have to stick to me if you wanna make it through.” She nodded, not paying much attention to the words he spoke as she noted how her name sounded when he said it. She was screwed.
Together they explored their surroundings; before them there was a heavily damaged house, behind it’s gaping hole was another one that was intact. Driven by her intuition, she pointe the house to Leon and so they headed to it. The space was plain and fairly minimalistic with just a few pieces of furniture lying around, the color scheme of the room though was even more poor that the interior itself. Dust particles flew in the air as the slowly fell and clung to any surface that was already covered in thick layer of debris and filth. Continuing her venture inside, (Y/N) heard a strange sound; investigating it’s source she came along a darkened, narrow corridor above which was a ticking bomb. Immediately, she called out for Leon, who safely detonated it. Weirdly enough, the bomb wasn’t her found, for she noticed a ladder leading to what appeared to be basement.
“I’ll go check it out. You stay here.” Leon was quick to move past her, preventing her from entering the gaping dark opening.
“Are you out of your mind? I’m not staying alone.” She protested; her arms crossed in front of her chest as she struck him with a stern look.
“Sure.” He sighed in defeat, he had no time for arguing. “Ladies first.” He jokingly pointed to the entrance; hesitantly, she gazed at the hole and then at Leon. The corners of his lips curled ever so slightly.
“Just as I thought.” He said before he jumped. Shocked, (Y/N) screamed his name only to be hear his chuckle- the one she couldn’t get enough of despite having only heard it only twice. She cursed as she got down after him; the lighthearted mood soon evaporated as they noticed a suspicious looking sack. Leon pointed his flashlight at the object and knelt before it; a piercing scream resonated from behind him. Swinging his gun in the air, he saw her trapped in the grasp of an atrociously tall man, dressed in black from head to toe. With no hesitation, the agent fired at the man, yet he seemed unphased; a powerful force hit him, causing him to fly across the room. Slowly, blackness took over his hazy vision as a sudden warmth embraced his head; (Y/N)’s screams of horror echoed in his head.

Watched two parts of Nick Apostolides playing RE4R and wrote down some interesting stuff that they shared happened while filming.
Part 1 & Part 2 of his playthrough. Will watch the other parts soon and write up a similar summary for them.
Part 1:
- Genevieve’s screams were too spine-chilling and they asked her to re-record with the screams toned down a notch.
- One of the first scenes Andre did with Nick was the Luis & Leon chain scene in the beginning of Chapter 2. He had to be careful not to smash his head cam into Nick’s head cam. Andre perspired a lot when he had to do a few takes of dodging the ganado that came into the room swinging the weapon.
- Marcio (Salazar’s VA) stood in for a lot of the ganados. He also did the Verdugo and apparently many people stood in for the Verdugo, Nick included.
- Nick did not mocap the supplex but did all the death screams.
- Jon (Mendez’s VA) was too gentle in choking Nick and Nick urged him to choke him for real. For RE2R, Nick accidentally choked himself unconscious when filming the death audio of the tyrant choking Leon. He fell in the booth and the sound clip of him choking & falling made it into the game.
Part 2:
- Jon said there was a Castellan dialect coach on call from Spain on his first day of filming to guide him on the dialect. Jon said he needed some time to manage his “Rs” properly.
- Jon threw Nick many times during filming.
- RE4R was filmed over the course of 2 years.
- Genevieve accidentally tripped over nothing on her first day of filming running sequences and everyone thought she was really dedicated to her craft lol.
- Gen plays the female hiker you see in the cutscene at the start of the game.
- Gen’s first day of filming was for a “really intense” scene which she would not comment on until Nick reaches that part in game.
- Gen knew Ashley would be a different reiteration during filming.
- Nick can’t whistle IRL and he doesn’t know who did the whistle for Leon when he calls Ashley out of the locker.
- Nick played the ganado that gets decapitated by a gate.
- A plug-in was used to make Jon’s voice sound more monster-sounding.
- Almost everyone played a Ganado other than Gen & Jon (to their knowledge so far).
- Screams are conducted at the end of the ADRs (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) to preserve the VAs voices. Nick generally doesn’t like to record getting hurt or death scenes ‘cos he doesn’t know how to take care of his voice.
- Jon had 3 levels of screaming. 1 before Mendez loses his legs, another is after he loses his legs but not enraged yet, last level is 120% screaming like a mad man.

Unpopular Hitman Opinions Pt. 2
I already did a part one of my personal unpopular Hitman opinions which you can check out here. And since it was quite fun to think about these, here are more of them!
Again: these are just my personal opinions. You can agree or disagree, but be kind!
Victoria is the least interesting character in all Hitman games
I think Victoria had a lot of potential to be an interesting character, but it wasn't utilised. Instead she was meaningless and in the end just an alibi to turn the stoic killer into a caring killer. I'm generally not a fan of these stories where the cold-blooded killer gets a little girl to make him seem softer and to give him a reason for his actions. That has worked a few times, for example in Léon: The Professional or Logan, but here the young female part was also interesting. That doesn't apply to Victoria. Quite apart from the fact that the number with the chain that keeps her in check is pretty over the top, even by Hitman Story standards.
Jane Perry and John Hopkins are better voice actors than David Bateson
I like the voice of Bateson! In the older Hitman games he had a lot of great moments as 47, for example in Contracts when he watches the couple on the street or when Diana hits him with the syringe in Blood Money. But in the WOA trilogy he's a bit slacker or he's just not on the same level as Hopkins and Perry. Sometimes Batesones lines seemed kind of read off. Perry and Hopkins, on the other hand, manage to give their characters depth with their voices alone. This becomes particularly clear when they act together with Bateson. For example, in the homecoming cutscene, when Hopkins, as Grey, lends his voice a forceful emphasis when he finally asks 47 "what was his name?". Bateson, on the other hand, appears monotone in this tense situation. The same happens in the cutscene after Mendoza, when Diana betrays 47. He lies on the floor writhing as the poison flows through his body, but his speech doesn't convey this. Perry, on the other hand, manages to convey Diana's disappointment and fragility, but at the same time her determination, through her voice. (I think he was great in Absolution though) I think the reason Hopkins and Perry stand out so much is that they are much more experienced and versatile voice actors, unlike Bateson, who hasn't done any major work of this kind apart from 47.
47's signature suit is old school and doesn't look good on him
I think the signature suit doesn't look as badass as people often say it does. There are other suits that make him look much more intimidating and fit him way better, for example the classic all black suit or the suburban suit. I also think that the signature suit looks old fashioned and sloppy, compared to these other ones.
Olivia's character was interesting but not used well
Olivia is a very interesting character, as she is Grey's "Diana", so to speak. But she was somehow the fifth wheel and the focus was too much on 47, Diana and Grey, so she was very much lost. Yet her story had so much potential. Her backstory of how she met Grey as a child in Sierra Leone? Her time working with Hush? So many interesting facets that were all underutilised. Such a shame!

Just made it past where I left off last time I started Destiny DC (first entering the port in Cherik was where I stopped before, now we're chasing Greybum after he escaped us in Calvalese) and I definitely think I'll like this version more for the characters!! Skits add so much more depth to them and their relationships with each other,, and I love the little animations they get for different portraits :D
Also Leon finally being less prickly.. best boy maybe not exactly making friends but being a lil more chill, bit softer ( ˶‾ ꒳ ‾˵) can't wait for his fuckin uhhh death scene later 。゚(*´□`)゚。
Anyway, it's also helping me understand the story better but I think part of that is that this is technically my second playthrough so I recognize certain NPCs better than I did the first time around sjxkd
I miss the combat system in psx Destiny tho.. chain capacity is kinda fun but I really prefer having TP I think. Also it's fun to see big magic attacks as a cutscene-esc thing instead of the whole battle constantly happening around you (it's uhh pretty clamorous sjxkd) but part of that is just me missing Phantasia lol
Having fun tho!!! Trying so hard to acclimate to the combat despite it all ✨✨

It’s still so freaking hilarious how Nomura is like ‘it was not intended as a Final Fantasy and Disney crossover’. I’m like yeah you’re right the friends Sora iss trying to remember at the end of Chain of Memories are Kairi, Riku...
And Cid, Yuffie, Aerith, Leon, Tidus, Wakka and Selphie. No disney characters present during that cutscene. XD

Koda: Thanks!
*the two of them leave, and once they’re out of sight, they duck into an alleyway and empty their bags, inside are Sora and Riku cosplay with Keyblade replicas*
Koda: I know you prefer being Riku but I think maybe it’d be more accurate if I was him...
Tokoyami: No way. Now hurry up and put them on, the convention will open soon.

Koda: Come on, you look great...
Tokoyami: I will never recover from this.....

Assumptions About Your Muse
Cloud acts as Sora’s pseudo-dad whenever he’s in Radiant Garden
Tumblr media
((Actually, my belief is that Sora's Psuedo dad is Leon. I've always believed that to some extent, that Leon is either a Dad like figure to Sora or a Brother like one. Maybe a mix of both.
That being said, I do think Cloud is very dad-like to Sora in a different way. I suppose he's more of a guardian-like figure than a dad like one.
Actually, while we're on the topic of Cloud's relationship with Sora, I feel like making a headcanon of sorts. That first time that Cloud met Sora, changed him. Sure he was embarrassed about losing to a kid, but it was the conversation afterward that impacted him, even if he tried not to show it on the outside.
(Sidenote but when I went to get icons for KH Cloud, I watched both the Recoded and Re Chain of Memories cutscenes for him, which are both really neat. I especially love how Cloud, Sora, and Hercules all team up in Recoded, and also that Cloud literally saves Hercules' life. There's a lot I could talk about for that scene, shame it's Data Cloud though.)
Anyway, back to Cloud's relationship to Sora. When Sora is in Radiant Garden, Cloud plays the role of a silent protector. He'll keep an eye on the kid and make sure he doesn't get into any danger.
Like, he knows that Sora can take care of himself, but he also knows that a little backup never hurts, even if he is unwilling to ask for it himself. He's very fond of Sora but unwilling to admit it. As for the 'feelings' stuff, he'll leave that to Leon.))

Kingdom Hearts BBS, DDD Blind Thoughts
Spoilers for Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and earlier titles in the series. Also warning that I have insomnia and these are utter ramblings on the last 24 hours of blindly binging the Kingdom Hearts series as a total newcomer to the series. Haven’t played three yet and just started Dream Drop Distance. With that warning.....
Birth by Sleep was a ton of fun. We ended up needing to grind a little to make Aqua playable, but that ended up forcing me to learn the game mechanics much deeper, and even my friends leveled up their playing of the game! It was really cool to unlock some of the high tier spells like Triple Firaga and Thundaga Shot, although I do wish we had gotten to chance to unlock even more. I should remember how much more fun the game was after some internet research.
It was very satisfying to unlock the true ending so easily. We had only missed 2 of the 12 required Xehanort Reports. The 2 we needed involved grinding the arena for maybe an hour total and then 5 minutes of finding a treasure chest. We were then able to roll smoothly from Aqua’s finish into the final episode.
Aqua’s fight against Braig was laughable easy, but the final fight against Vanitas/Ventus was slightly tougher. The real challenge was fighting Terra/Xehanort but then the REAL challenge was phase 2 of that fight. I got them all on the first try! It was a really enjoyable flex of my gaming skills in front of the friends.
From a story standpoint, Birth By Sleep had my favorite story of any KH game so far, by a huge margin. I liked certain elements of the KH2 ending (Riku and Sora teaming up, Kairi’s keyblade) but BBS has been the only game where I had any sense of purpose or desire to see how it ends. They did a great job of having each of the 3 routes reveal new information even if played out of order (Xehanort taking over Terra, Vanitas having Sora’s face, Aqua taking care of comatose Ventus).
Obviously it helps to have Leonard Nimoy and Mark Hamill join the cast, plus Aqua’s VA absolutely dominates every scene she’s in. Terra’s VA reminds me a lot of Leon’s monotone edgy boy voice acting (David Boreanaz or otherwise). Of course Ventus shares a VA with Roxas, but the twist of Vanitas being Haley Joel Osmont is really great because he sounds so much older. I think it would have been easier to predict that twist if I had recently heard more of HJO’s Sora voice in Dream Drop Distance or KH3.
Aqua is, of course, the great standout character from BBS. From the start, we got attached to her because of her known prevalence in KH3 on top of her cool design, Arrow voice actress, and the fact that we could finally play a girl (plus one with more human proportions than Kairi). It worked out really well how we saved her for last and had to kind of unlock the secrets of her play style by finally mastering the various gameplay systems.
I much prefer the command deck system compared to the gameplay of KH2. To be fair, these are the only two KH games I’ve beaten. I’ve only barely touched KH1 and Chain of Memories. I felt like BBS did a good job of fusing the action gameplay of KH2 with the (potentially) satisfying deck building of CoM.
Re: Coded is a fucking mess. I might actually go back and play it on a DS emulator just to see the gameplay, but god damn the story is a flimsy excuse for a retread. I almost wish we had skipped it entirely, but just watching the opening and ending worked out pretty well. In the end, it’s literally just “Mickey is gonna give Sora the memories of all the other protagonists” which is badass but probably going to be mentioned again before being relevant. I will say that the ending with Riku and Sora being summoned by Yen Sid for the mark of mastery test is fucking badass and elicited quite the reaction from all three of us. The series is finally starting to have that feeling of “the stakes are high and I want to see what happens with these characters”.
This was expressed most fully in the intro to Dream Drop Distance. Step 1: invoke Disney Magic with a silhouette of magician Mickey. Step 2: Orchestral Simple and Clean. Step 3: use entirely new cinematic footage instead of splicing together an AMB. Step 4: show every keyblade wielder standing side by side. Apparently that’s enough to make me actually cry. We all got very excited by this intro, so it was a bit of a let down to start the game and be seemingly replaying KH1 again.
Of course that’s not the whole game, but I’m still not sure what the whole game is. Riku and Sora have to...wake the seven sleeping worlds to earn their mark of mastery? Are they dreaming all of this, or what? Seeing The World Ends With You was cute for like a second before realizing that I know almost nothing about it. Flowmotion is similarly kinda neat at first but quickly becomes annoying, but maybe it will grow on me with time.
Speaking of fun at first but quickly annoying: Dream Eaters. The Pokémon-esque system seems like a time waster that’s perfect for 3DS but maybe not so much for our tourist play through. The Dream Eater designs are cute when they’re on your team, but strike me as a bit annoying when fighting the same ones over and over. Heartless and Nobodies felt more generic, but that made them feel a little less repetitive to fight over and over. I see the same god damn rainbow colored Panda every god damn fight. To be fair, I think each world randomly contains certain types of Dream Eaters every time you visit it.
Speaking of Worlds, I’m not really looking forward to Hunchback of Notre Dame or Pinocchio world, but at least they’re new worlds instead of retreading Halloween Town, Agrabah, Olympus, Neverland for the millionth time. What I am looking forward to is The Grid from Tron Legacy! I don’t think we’ve seen any Disney world that specifically spotlight a sequel to a Disney world we’ve already seen. We revisit Halloween Town, Agrabah, Beast’s Castle, Olympus, Atlantica but only for some minor follow-up fluff. The Tron world in KH2 meant a lot to me having just seen the film. The Lightcycle combat could’ve been a little more true to the original, but the visuals were so faithful plus having Tron’s actual actor was so fucking cool. Sora and gang getting Tron outfits was so cool too. Also would’ve liked to have a disc fight, but the Sark/MCP fight was spot on. Hopefully we can get both of more in DDD!
It’s a perfect excuse to revisit The Grid since Legacy looks so different from the original. Now, The Grid is not a true world in KH2 but instead part of Hollow Bastion’s computer system. I’m curious if The Grid in DDD is a sleeping world or something that exists within another world, or if it is somehow connected to the KH2 Tron world (which would get real weird real quick if that version of the Grid is a copy of the original, but Legacy is supposed to be set in The Grid 30 years later).
Oh, I like that DDD has the command deck system but I don’t like the pets, I don’t like the link system, I don’t like reality shift, and I don’t like flowmotion. It just seems like BBS with all the RPG features crammed into the pet system with a bunch of gimmick infused into the combat system. Admittedly, gimmick is one of the biggest strengths of the KH franchise, but flowmotion just seems silly. Perhaps I’ll like it more when I get used to it and potentially get to customize the moves.
I’m not sure yet how I feel about the drop system, but I do like getting to play as Riku. I think multiple protagonists is a smart way to stretch the assets and tell 2 stories per world. I rather enjoyed the way Aqua, Terra, and Ventus interacted with some of the Disney worlds. Hopefully we get something similar in some of these worlds.
The dive mini game is definitely gimmicky nonsense clearly designed for the 3DS. In general though, all the games in these collections look great and feel great. I suppose that is why Days, Coded, and Back Cover are cutscenes: to keep the average quality of gameplay roughly somewhere in between KH1 and 2 between all the titles. In fact, I think KH1 is easily the worst feeling out of all the ones thus far. I’ve always complained about KH hopping between systems, but now I can’t really complain about that anymore. My complaint still stands about the games being overly complicated. Plus, the games are clearly taking themselves way too seriously, but that’s very clearly part of the charm.
Really, I suppose the games aren’t that complicated if you heavily condense Chain of Memories, cut out Coded, and try not to think too hard about the phone games. Then it just becomes: Sora defeats the heartless, Sora defeats the nobodies, Roxas backstory, Aqua/Terra/Ventus, training/prep montage, then KH3. Oh, and try to forget that somehow the upcoming rhythm game is canon.

Cindered Shadows DLC
After completing my first playthrough of 3H, I decided it would be a good idea to play through the sidestory so I could collect the DLC supports in a timely manner. I’ll outline my general-ish thought about the sidestory and the DLC characters and then if I have more that pops into my mind, I’ll put it under the read more.
Overall:
I had assumed, based on the price, and general idea in my mind that each chapter equates to about an hour or so of gameplay, I figured the DLC would be around 9 to 10 chapters; I had no preconceptions about the plot. And well, for my money’s sake, I’m disappointed the sidestory was only 7 chapters, but for my engagement level, I’m glad it was only 7 chapters lol. As I said in a previous post, the plot felt fairly cookie-cutter, and outside of the uptick in difficulty (I played it on normal/casual because I am a casual and don’t like being frustrated for fun, in general), and maybe getting to know the new DLC characters, there wasn’t as much as I was expecting to enjoy. I would’ve preferred maps to expand existing routes, to be frank, or even further fanbase pandering by bringing back previous games’ characters, even as NPCs. (Also that Awakening pandering tho with the DLC classes)
Characters:
Yuri: He wasn’t as much of a Leon-copycat as I had assumed. Still not nuts about his character design, but I liked his personality and his English VA did great. I thought he played off all the other characters well, especially Ashe, and it’s a shame he and Ashe don’t have a support chain.
Balthus: He was my favorite, which came as a surprise to me! I knew I’d like him since he’s a brawns over brain milf-lover, but he’s a funny guy and I enjoy his backstory with Hilda. I am a big fan of the stupid-looking punching relic.
Constance: She was the character I was expecting to like the most, but I loathed her split-personality shtick. I don’t know if there’s some in-support explanation why she’s like that, but it sort of ruined her character for me. I had assumed she’d be more like Owain/Odin, high theatrics and bravado but a good person all-around, but she’s actually a reverse Noire? I would of much preferred if her sunlight personality was less self-depreciating and more shy, if they really had to go with that angle. I’ve always liked the Dark Flier class, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with her performance.
Hapi: She just felt there the duration of the DLC. I didn’t get a good read of her personality, outside of sighing spawns beasts and she’s a bit of a dry person. I usually am all about magic users and mounted units, but Hapi legit never pulled her weight for me; her speed left something to be desired, and she was always getting nuked. Personally, I think instead of having her as a Valkierye (which inherently seems very similar to Dark Knight to me, outside of access to black magic, I guess, when faith/reason can be used by any unit with magical abilities) was a so-so decision; I think it would have been more interesting to bring back the Witch class for her. Giving her the warp ability but lock Witch class out of faith magic, perhaps.
A Bulleted Assortment of My Thoughts
Ugh, Edelgard as a Fortress Knight To be frank, I do not like that class (I have no room in my heart for units who can’t double and will crumple like a paper bag against magical attacks) on top of my lukewarm feelings for Edelgard. Low movement and low speed meant I didn’t really use her much until the final chapter
Fuck Yeah, Dimitri on a Horse As I love horse-mounted units, I was very excited to have Dimitri on a horse. He did great; he and Ashe were consistently my MVPs
I like who they included in the roster for the DLC; the three house leaders were to be expected, but opting for Linhardt and Ashe was cool instead of doing the retainer trio too. I think Lin was a good choice for lore-dumping and he can breezily ignore Edelgard’s quips against him
I knew Alferic was Bad Because He Was Ugly There is a general theme to FE that they’ll introduce seemingly pious/good characters (males) that are older/not conventionally attractive and surprise surprise they’re evil. So I called it immediately with Alferic because they were hamming up how good he was so much and I looked at him and thought “hmm, ugly”
When Balthus punched Yuri after finishing chapter 7... nice. I always like “Lemme see you grit those teeth” moments a la Gurren Lagann
God it is So Obvious Every Cutscene is Characters Standing in A Circle. I noticed this in the main story, but it just felt most obvious and obnoxious in the DLC because there’s not a single animation sequence. I liked the still art they used, but it would’ve been nice if I didn’t have to stare at Hapi “talking” with her mouth not moving quite so much
I really hate sunlight Constance Who does that appeal to? Do people find her berating herself funny?
The final chapter took me two tries, until I figured out how to use gambits (Googled strategies for the chapter lol) an then I blew through it in 5 turns.

I made this post last month about the main fixes that should be made to the story of Birth by Sleep in order to make it the best it could possibly be. While I don’t believe the flaws in the stories of the original KH, COM, and even KH2 are as damaging as the flaws in BBS, in the interest of fairness I’ve decided to make a post about what fixes should be made to them.
From Kingdom Hearts:
The World Order - I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this is a stupid rule. Not only is keeping the existence of other worlds a secret while visiting not the kind of the thing you want to hear in a crossover story, but it’s also a rule that keeps getting broken anyway. In just about every world the heroes visit, someone finds out about other worlds thanks to their presence and/or the presence of the Heartless. Certain residents of worlds become summonable allies for Sora and fight alongside him in other worlds. A group of villains, all from different worlds, are the central antagonists of the story. The Princesses of Heart all come from different worlds and end up banding together. The Beast goes to Hollow Bastion. And let’s not forget everyone in Traverse Town! The World Order is broken left and right, so why does it even exist? It shouldn’t. Other worlds’ existence should be common knowledge.
“The Heartless were using Maleficent from the beginning” - This line is just nonsense. The Heartless cannot use anyone, they are beings of instinct who cannot think or plan, they only exist to devour hearts and spread darkness everywhere. Maleficent was using them, period. Ansem, the special Heartless who says this line, was the only one using Maleficent.
The Placement of the “Oathkeeper” Scene - The scene where Sora tells Kairi to stay behind because “it’s way too dangerous”, and she gives him the Oathkeeper keychain, is problematic, and it didn’t need to be.  If it was placed in Hollow Bastion, it would make perfect sense - not only would it link to the start of the scene, where Kairi explicitly references her grandmother’s story that was told to her in Hollow Bastion, but End of the World actually IS “way too dangerous” for Kairi. The notion that Hollow Bastion is too dangerous for her is laughable, since not only do Leon, Yuffie and Aerith proceed to leave her behind at Cid’s house and go to Hollow Bastion without any trouble, but the other six Princesses of Heart are also just fine being there! Because the scene is placed in Traverse Town and Kairi isn’t allowed to do something that she really should be allowed to do, it becomes the Franchise Original Sin of sidelining Kairi as a character. And that’s a damn shame, since it’s a great scene otherwise. The manga of all things actually corrected this and placed it at Hollow Bastion where it belongs (even though it made a joke out of it), so why couldn’t the game?
From Chain of Memories:
The Concept of Memory - The central concept of the story is pretty confusing. This game claims that memory, which everyone knows is an aspect of the mind, is actually an aspect of the heart. Apparently so much so that if someone’s memory was erased, their heart would be destroyed. But this doesn’t line up at all with subsequent games - people are constantly getting total amnesia and yet their hearts are just fine. What’s more, the Organization say they have memories of when they were human, except that as Nobodies, they lack hearts, so this should be impossible if memories come from the heart like this game claims they do! Memory should have just been kept as a mental thing, with how one feels about memories being emphasized, since that’s something related to memories were the heart is involved.
That 2nd Repliku Battle - The story gets dragged down by too many battles with the Riku Replica. One could afford to be cut, and it’s easy to choose which one: the second one. There is no reason for this battle to happen; Sora instigates it instead of Repliku, which makes it feel out of place. Repliku should’ve just said what he needed to say and then left.
Reverse/Rebirth - Riku’s story mode should not have been a story mode at all. There is clearly too little material to actually cover a full playable campaign, and the pre-prepared decks, overpowered Dark Mode (and Duel function in RE:COM) and story-less Disney worlds just add to how ridiculously short it is. The story of R/R should have instead been split between unlockable extra playable episodes, with Riku always at a set level where he has an equal chance of winning and losing the necessary battles. They could be unlocked through a New Game + for Sora, which would increase the length of the game’s playtime considerably.
DiZ as Ansem, Seeker of Darkness - This was a pointless story element for the sake of a “Gotcha!” twist, and not only does it make things needlessly confusing given that the real Ansem, Seeker of Darkness is already in the story, but it makes things even more confusing in KH2 when Riku ends up taking Ansem’s form and is stuck with it even though DiZ wasn’t, and when DiZ is revealed to actually be Ansem and Ansem, Seeker of Darkness to have always been an imposter! Just let DiZ always be DiZ, the story works a lot better that way.
Riku’s Lesson - The lesson Riku learns in R/R is “accept and use the Darkness, it will help you achieve your goals and reunite you with your friends”...which is exactly what he did in the first game and was rightly portrayed as wrong! And then in KH2, it ends up having disastrous consequences for Riku, so apparently it was still wrong!  The lesson Riku should have learned was that he can’t fight the Darkness within himself because that’s acting out of anger, aggression and self-loathing...in other words, it only creates more Darkness. Only light can cast out Darkness, and so he should focus on reclaiming the Light rather than eliminating the Darkness. He doesn’t have to use it, but he does have to accept and tolerate it until it’s gone.
From Kingdom Hearts II:
The Prologue’s Length - I honestly think the infamous Prologue wouldn’t be nearly as controversial as it is if only it was shorter. A lot of cutscenes and things to do in it seem to be there just for the sake of padding it out. Cut it down by at least an hour and it’d be better.
No Clear Villainous Threat - A big problem KH2′s story has when compared to the first KH is the lack of a clear villainous threat. In the original game, the Heartless and the Disney Villains who commanded them were established as an imminent, world-destroying threat very early on. But here, the Heartless are just threats to people instead of entire worlds, while Pete is dismissed as a complete joke. It falls upon the Nobodies and Organization XIII to present the new threat...but for the longest time, they don’t. It’s just said that “they’re planning something and it’s probably bad”. They are so caught up in being mysterious that they fail to provide a sense of urgency or motivation as to why they should be stopped, or even what exactly they should be stopped from doing. This only changes midway through the game when they finally reveal their big evil plan to capture millions of hearts which Xemnas will use to ascend to godhood. They don’t have to reveal this early on, but they have to be doing something actively dangerous toward the universe in order to justify why Sora needs to fight them.
Underselling Maleficent - When Maleficent is revealed to have been resurrected, it should be a big deal. Pete shouldn’t be a joke anymore since he’s being backed by the sorceress who was the main villain for most of the first game. But instead, this bombshell just gets brushed aside without much fanfare by Sora and his friends. The first visits to Port Royal, Agrabah, Halloween Town and Pride Land would feel less like filler if Maleficent and Pete were treated with the same gravitas as Organization XIII by the narrative and its characters.
Cloud’s Side Story - It’s stupid, it’s pointless, don’t include it.
Worlds Revisited - A few of the stories in the Worlds Revisited stage of the game could have afforded to be rewritten, but much more importantly, this stage of the game needed to have proper narrative context. Because as it stands, it doesn’t. Sora, Donald and Goofy get clues that explicitly point to them needing to go to Twilight Town, and yet they don’t go there until after the Worlds Revisited stage is over with, and there is no reason given as to why they are revisiting all the worlds beyond “looking for a way to get into the Organization’s world” (again, why not check out Twilight Town for that way!?) They needed a narrative reason for Twilight Town to be blocked off (like, say, that fucking Dreadnought battle station from the Gummi Ship mission before it), and thus a reason for the Worlds Revisited stage of the game to happen (with Sora, Donald and Goofy looking for a gateway around the Dreadnought). They wouldn't find one, of course (Tron would instead unlock a way right through the Dreadnought at the end of the Space Paranoids revisit), but it’d still give a proper reason behind why they’re revisiting the worlds instead of just going to Twilight Town like they were directed to.
Kairi and Riku - The majority of Kairi’s screentime in this game is in the World That Never Was, and the entirety of Riku’s screentime as Riku is in the World That Never Was. Neither of them are very developed beyond two or three moments, and their personalities feel sadly two-dimensional compared to the orignal game: they are just The Chick and The Lancer respectively. Their roles and their characterizations should have been more fleshed out.
Organization XIII - @ultraericthered made a post about this. Although the Final Mix version of the game fixed a lot of problems with how Organization XIII was handled, there were still improvements that could have been made to make them an even more consistent presence.

A Thought on Foreshadowing and KH3
I’ve seen some speculation that Aqua getting Norted has been foreshadowed since Birth by Sleep came out in 2010, but in my recent replaying of the series, I began to wonder—does it go further back than that? Like, much further? Let’s take a look.
Remember this scene?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In KH2:FM+, we see Xemnas use the chaos in Hollow Bastion [sic] to access the Chamber of Repose for presumably the first time since before the restoration committee reclaimed this world as their home. He greets Aqua’s armor there as his “friend,” and says it has been far too long.
Now, we don’t know the exact properties of the Chamber of Repose or the Chamber of Waking besides the fact that the latter can’t be accessed by anyone but Aqua. We can assume that there must be something special about the Chamber of Repose, yet whether it is more of Xehanort’s unfortunate genius or merely a place for him to pontificate to a captive audience remains a mystery. (We know he likes doing that, after all.) The only thing we can be certain of is that he is storing Aqua’s armor and Keyblade there, and that he does intend to use it to determine Ven’s location—Xigbar tells Zexion as much. He says that’s where they researched the darkness in people’s hearts before Ansem the Wise shut them down, and that Xemnas built his special room in the back after they banished him to the realm between.
Tumblr media
So, what does this have to do with Aqua getting Norted? Well, let’s consider the timeline of events throughout the overarching series:
Aqua fell into the realm of darkness ten years before KH1, closer to twelve years ago by the time KH3 occurs and Riku and Mickey try to find her. At some point before or during KH1, Aqua encounters Terra via the connection between their hearts. (I’m more inclined to believe it was well before KH1, perhaps in the year between Terranort becoming an apprentice and thrusting Radiant Garden into darkness, which causes a chain reaction and other worlds to fall as well. Leon says that occurred nine years prior to the first game. Terranort becoming a Heartless should happen not long after.) During that interaction, she confirms exactly what Xehanort has been attempting to figure out: she’s the only person who can find Ventus, the only person who actually has any idea where he is let alone the ability to retrieve him. Terra keeps Xehanort from acting on it right then, but if that is within roughly the year after BBS, he’s about to be thrown into a tizzy with regards to where his heart goes after Xehanort becomes a Heartless and Nobody. Simultaneously, in the realm of light, Xehanort and the apprentices are utilizing the Chamber of Repose both for their own experiments and, later, whatever it is that Xehanort hopes to achieve with Aqua.
The scene between Xigbar and Zexion happens before Chain of Memories, when Marluxia is newly recruited to the Organization as its Number 11. It could be anytime between nine years prior to KH1 and the middle of the first game when Sora becomes a Heartless and Roxas is created. (It’s probably much earlier than the latter, though, as Larxene wasn’t involved yet.) That means Xemnas has been using the Chamber of Repose to find Ven—indirectly, through Aqua—for many years. Therefore, however he did it, Norting her must have been at least a contingency plan for a while. As someone who told Maleficent that Aqua was stubborn, he knows full well that simply asking isn’t going to yield results.
Tumblr media
Clearly the event that leads to her Nortification doesn’t happen until after KH2, as we can conclude since she meets Ansem the Wise at the Dark Margin, but Xemnas has been linked to her somehow through the Chamber of Repose for much longer than that. His accessing that chamber during the game, his taking time out of his busy schedule of antagonizing Sora and company, is a pretty major indicator that he wants Aqua for some reason at that specific point in the timeline. Xehanort doesn’t waste his time with sentimental endeavors, not unless he has something to gain from them, and by that point in the game, he’s lost many members of the Organization that he originally intended to turn into Xehanorts. Without knowing how Ansem the Wise will play into things or how Sora and Riku will ultimately defeat him, he can nevertheless be certain that they are going to need to start over with new members. They’ve lost too many, between the original members of the Organization that were decimated at Castle Oblivion and the losses they were beginning to suffer with Demyx in KH2, to adhere to their initial plan. Therefore, with his path for Organization XIII getting scrapped entirely and new vessels in need of finding, he heads down to the Chamber of Repose to visit his old “friend.” I’d wager Aqua made the short list as a way to kill two birds with one stone—just like Sora.
Take this scene, for instance:
Tumblr media
It didn’t make the cut for the movie version of Days, but it was enormously important. Xemnas being Xemnas, he doesn’t come right out and say what he means by this. Is he talking about Sora since Roxas is his Nobody? Or is he talking about Ventus, who he knows looks identical to Roxas? Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. Either way, he knows that through Sora, he has access to not one, but two Keyblade wielders. (Three if you count Xion, but it’s unlikely that Xemnas does so this early in the game.)
Now, let’s say he’s talking about Ven here. After all, Sora hasn’t been put to sleep yet when this scene transpires, whereas it’s more of a chronic occurrence with Ven and therefore fits the context of his statement. By the time we get to this part of the series, Xemnas has known for years that Aqua is the key to finding Ven’s body; if, in seeing the form Sora’s Nobody has taken, he recognizes the link between the two, he should realize that Sora is the key to finding his heart. The obvious course of action, then, when Young Xehanort comes a-knocking to gather a new set of thirteen members?
Nort both Sora and Aqua, and they will as good as have Norted Ven, which he’s wanted for far longer than is probably healthy.
Tumblr media
What made that possible? Well, in Sora’s case, it was Xehanort moving through time to have a chat with himself, remaining on the islands to hone in on Riku, and therefore being there at the opportune moment anyway to divert them from their Mark of Mastery exam when they, too, returned through time.
For Aqua? The Chamber of Repose: the place where he communed with one friend in the hopes of finding the other.
Since a cutscene in KH2.
Tl;dr it’s no wonder Nomura was surprised that we were shocked. He’s literally been preparing us for that reveal for twelve years.
