Nose twitching, you cross your arms over your chest with a thermos in hand, housing your favorite coffee—the Folgers’ classic roast instant coffee crystals that melt the moment it meets with boiling hot water because you can’t be bothered to wait for the coffee machine to brew the grinds. Normally, you’d be able to smell the freshness of the caffeine, but instead, you’re met with the aroma of burnt rubber on the asphalt wafting underneath your nose. Of course, you shouldn’t have expected anything else—this only ever happens at the track.
To be quite fair, you should’ve been used to all of this by now. The zooming of the cars when they make laps around the track, the whiff of the smoke that spits out of the exhaust, and the crisp clicking that the high-powered impact wrench makes when it’s changing the four tires on the cars at a pit box. And yet, every time you’re here, it feels like an entirely new experience.
Truthfully, you don’t know if you love it here. There’s always too much going on during the races; the chaos on the track, the abundance of people at the bleachers who watch attentively with their favorites in mind, the hollering and screaming, occasional fight breakouts, and the obsession with the cars themselves is too much to handle. You already have a lot going on in your day job—why are you even here?
Oh, right. Because that driver over there—the one with the chestnut color hair, beaming bright smile, and contagious laugh with that cute little beauty mark on his cheek—is your best friend. The one that you might be head over heels for since the beginning of time.
It’s a bit dramatic to introduce him like that, but it’s the only way your heart sees him. Helmet tucked underneath his arm, his loud yet saccharine guffaw fills the air as he exchanges words with one of his crew mates. You don’t know what that’s all about, but what you know is that he asked you to be here, claiming that you’re his ‘good luck charm’ of some sorts.
Whether or not that’s true, you’re still present.
Although you’ve voiced your feelings a handful of times, Lee Seokmin has made it clear: relationships aren’t his priority at the moment—his dreams are.
But, you remain by his side while wearing a blissfully oblivious mask, pretending like you don’t know about his late night escapades where he meets women at the track and takes them out for drinks before inviting them back to his hotel room. Clubs, afterparties, celebrations, tailgates—he’s encountered them through it all, but the only one he hasn’t brought back is you.
Mostly because he ‘treasures’ your relationship too much. You’re the type of person he’d take home to his mom, he says, not to a shoddy motel room right off the highway next to that gas station with the flickering vacancy sign.
And if this was someone else sharing their story, you would’ve told them to lose the guy and find someone worthwhile, someone who wouldn’t take their time for granted, and someone who would love them the way they deserved to be loved.
Unfortunately, this was you you were talking about here, and the only thing you are is delusional and clueless. (You can admit that much).
You choose to turn a blind eye when Seokmin is stumbling out of a club, shirt unbuttoned down to his chest, hooded gaze and slurring words with a girl underneath his arm with her skirt hitched nearly up to her upper thigh, breasts almost falling out of the cups of her top. Because even though he’s bringing her to his bed tonight, you hoped he’d eventually be ready to bring you to your shared forever home one day.
You want to be his everything, his endgame—so if this is what it takes to get there, you’d suffer a little.
(Sounds pathetic, you don’t need another reminder).
“You did good.” You grin, calling out to Seokmin who turns his attention to you. It seems like his smile gets wider at the sight of you walking down to where he’s stationed, wearing that sweatshirt he gave you last autumn with his car sewn in the pocket area and his name in the back.
“You probably didn’t know what you were watching,” he chuckles, handing off his helmet over to a teammate. Sometimes, you wondered if Seokmin knew their names without checking what’s sewn into their suits. “You just sit in the stands and watch me diligently. Do that thing where you furrow your brows like you’re concentrating.”
You mimic the description by scrunching up your face. “I’m not even a fan of racing, you asked me to come here.”
He pats your head affectionately. “I know. And I’m thankful for that.”
Your heart swells. It didn’t help that Seokmin was always like this, and because of that, he made it harder for you if you ever wanted to detach from him. He lures you in effortlessly, like you’re afflicted from the aftermath of a love potion but it’s all because of that charming smile that he shoots your way and not because you were shot by Cupid’s arrow itself.
Seokmin clears his throat, stuffing his hands into the front pockets of his racing overalls. He looks good like this; the white compliments him and brightens his face—not that he needs it but it compliments him. “Listen… I know you seem to always have the latest scoop on people…”
“I don’t, but go on.” Totally a lie, the last dinner you had with your friends was entirely a gossip session–but that’s besides the point.
“Have you ever heard of some guy by the name of Jeon Wonwoo?”
With a slight tilt of your head, you blink blankly. It’s not familiar, mostly because you don’t know the person yourself but also since the name hasn’t been brought up at any tea spilling outing. But from the tone of Seokmin’s voice, you’re almost tempted to do your own digging. “Jeon… Wonwoo… no, can’t say that rings a bell. What’s up?”
Seokmin waves you off, clicking his tongue after. “Some street racer. Said he was gonna come in here and start racing professionally. Can you believe that?” he scoffs in disbelief. “Doin’ it illegally then suddenly you want it as a career.”
You shrug. “I mean, everyone starts off somewhere. His start might’ve not been ideal, but at least he’s trying to make things right.”
For a moment, it’s hard to read the expression on Seokmin’s face. There’s a hint of annoyance, you manage to make out, but before he lets you analyze any further, it contorts into an adoring one as he leans over to ruffle your hair. Why does he purposely continue to tug on your heartstrings like this? It makes you feel like a middle school girl crushing on a boy in her class.
Are you really this whipped?
“You’re always looking for the good in people. Sweet, but street racers are assholes. If you ever meet one,” he states warily, but there’s a playful inflection embedded in his words, “don’t trust them. They’re bad news.”
But when he says that, you can’t help but get a flashback of all the times he’s hit on girls for a one night stand… in front of you, despite knowing your feelings for him. Or those times he’s led you on, had you on your toes, thinking that you’d be the next in line for his heart, but instead you find yourself here, as an equivalent to a four leaf clover, a rabbit’s foot or even a horseshoe for his tournaments.
Street racers aren’t the only bad people.
“Hey!”
Flinching, the two of you jolt your attention to the voice, and you spot a little Lee Chan in his matching porcelain white racing overalls as Seokmin—from the biggest to smallest companies out there, brands decorated Seokmin’s, and even though Chan only had two logos on his, he looked like the mini version of your best friend.
He grins cheekily, pointing to the one out of two brands on his clothes. ‘FIC’ in a red square with writing in brown is woven instead of some cheap iron-on patch right above his heart, and you let out a little laugh. “Your logo came!”
“Looks good, Channie.”
Seokmin furrows his brows. “The fuck is a FIC?”
You wave your navy blue thermos in his face before patting Chan’s back.
“Folgers’ Instant Coffee,” you both say in unison and Seokmin only shakes his head.
“Isn’t that copyright infringement?”
The two of you shrug in unison.
To Chan, Seokmin was a mentor. He had become everything Chan aspired to be—on the racetrack, that is, and getting to be this up and close to him was a dream come true. Seokmin is barely pushing twenty-five and he’s already won so many tournaments; trophies lined up the shelves back at his childhood house, providing nothing other than proving his mother wrong when she’d used to say ‘study, driving won’t get you anywhere in life!’ All this while bringing her home an abundance of gifts because there’s nothing better than refuting your mother’s expectations by exceeding them.
“Well,” Seokmin begins, tossing the driving gloves that one of his crew mates catches. “You’re gonna need a whole lot more sponsorship offers if you wanna upgrade your car. You can’t be riding that piece of shit on our track. Ruins the asphalt.”
“He could always drive my car.”
“Nobody wants your little ass 2004 Toyota Camry on our track,” he jokes, but you can sense the expression of Chan’s face dropping in your peripheral vision. “Chan needs a real car to make it.”
Chan juts out his bottom lip. “Those street racers—they always mod their cars and they still go super fast. Can’t we figure something out? Some people make it into the big leagues from working on their cars themselves and—”
“You can’t drive on the track with a mod, it’s gotta be a stock car,” Seokmin lets out a huge, frustrated sigh. “And can we cut the crap about those idiot street racers? They’re so fucking stupid, they can’t even figure out how to get into the main track, so they substitute it by racing illegally. Stop taking tips from those assholes. Just makes you one of ‘em.”
There he goes again. What’s his deal? You couldn’t quite put your finger on it, but your best friend’s temper has shortened, and the tips of his ears were growing red each time the topic of those street racers would come up. And who the fuck was Wonwoo?
“Hey, you alright? You seem tense.” It’s only Friday, and although competitions happen on Saturdays, Seokmin doesn’t usually get nervous. But the way his fists clenched at his side is a different look on him. “You seem off.”
“Jeon Wonwoo is racing tomorrow,” he announces grimly, and even though you don’t know what that entails, the look of surprise and concern that washes over Chan’s face alludes to what it could mean.
“But—what—huh? How? And that’s so—oh my god, you’re gonna go up against one of the best street racers in our region. Or world, even,” Chan’s mouth won’t close and his eyes are practically bulging outside of its pockets. “What are you gonna do, Seok?”
“There’s no tier in street racing,” Seokmin scoffs, arms crossing over his chest in pride. “And I’m gonna bring the best to the table, that’s what. I’m not losing to a mediocre street racer.”
Didn’t he just say there wasn’t a tier for street racing?
You’ve spent a decent amount of time with Seokmin, and what’s strange about him today is that he looks… not as confident as he sounds. The words he says exudes the certainty he has for winning, but take that away and it’s been a blanket for his insecurity.
Was Lee Seokmin actually afraid of competing tomorrow? And if he was, why was this Wonwoo guy bugging him so much? Who was he? It didn’t help that your probing isn’t getting you anywhere.
“Coming tomorrow?” Seokmin asks you, but his eyes are elsewhere. Sneaking a glance, you notice his gaze is on one of the flag girls that you recalled from a race a couple weeks back. Black hair long enough to reach her ass, nose so pointy that it peeks through the clouds, and teeth so fucking white that it could blind you, she’s already bouncing her way to you three.
“Mm, yeah,” you respond as coolly as possible. Part of you wants him to remember how calm you were whenever he was pursuing other girls when he could’ve been after you. He’d rather have a girl like that in lieu of you. A cool girl. Well, sorta. You’re just chillin’… vibin’… going with the flow… patiently waiting for–who are you kidding? Why the fuck isn’t he yours yet?  “As promised. Your lucky charm.” The words look sweet on paper, but they spill through your gritted teeth.
“Great.” He pats your shoulder. “Imma hang out with Chaeri. See you tomorrow?”
“Hah,” you let out an awkward laugh. “Yeah, yeah, tomorrow.”
You are, and will be forever, a hopeless romantic. Especially for Lee Seokmin.
As you watch him jog toward yet another pretty girl, Chan looks at you sympathetically. Geez, are you that pitiful? “Why do you keep waiting around for him?”
“I’m not.” Already, the mouthpiece of your thermos is at your lips.
“You should really consider going out and dating,” Chan suggests, watching as you do your best to avoid the topic by turning your head. “And I know you hate hearing it, but it’s really not worth it. I admire him as a driver, but as a boyfriend— let’s just say I don’t think Seok is going to change any time soon when it comes to his dating life. Maybe it’s better off finding another guy who would actually appreciate you coming to events like these. You don’t even like racing.”
“I… I like racing.” You don’t sound convincing, and the look on Chan’s face only confirms that he doesn’t believe you either.
You know Chan is right. Despite being younger, he’s got a lot of knowledge and words of wisdom to share – still doesn’t mean you want to listen though because you’re hard-headed and there’s a portion of you that’s a bit lovesick. There’s a dream that one day, Seokmin will realize that the person that was made for him was right beside him all along.
His best friend.
You.
But here you are, watching from the distance, him groping some chick’s ass on the side of a racetrack, ready to take her out for another day of fucking around.
Why do you insist on torturing yourself? You need to mentally smack yourself for not detaching your eyes from this very heart twisting scene.
“Fine,” you concede, shoulders dropping along with your efforts for that brief second. “Let’s go to a bar or something tonight. Pick me up? Then you can be my wingman.”
Chan’s smile stretches from ear to ear. “Great, I’m excited. We’ll find you someone with 8-pack abs, a sweet looking face, and a great personality.”
Tumblr media
How do you tell Chan that finding someone with all the characteristics he described is pretty much impossible? For one, does he think someone with 8-pack abs and a sweet looking face could ever have a great personality? You swore the past couple guys you met on that dating site that your friends force you to hop on were exactly that—the type of attractive that had drool spilling from the corner of your lips that actually makes your head go blank until the morning after when you find yourself in their sheets and they still can’t tell you what 8 times 3 equals. How many times did you have to tell your friends that just because some of them found love online, it didn’t mean that you would too?
Nonetheless, the whole description of those men doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with a ‘great personality’ per say, but that adds onto it. If a guy can’t even do simple math or have any common sense, what good does having a nice personality do anyways?
You feel like you should give up. What the hell was Lee Chan thinking?
Puffing out a heavy sigh, you find your way through the crowd of people for that spot to lean against the wall. You’ll have to give him another list of reasons why this night cannot repeat itself, and you refuse to go on this dating venture that he wants you on. The bar he’s invited you to is packed—from the crowds that are hollering over the pool tables to the waves of people that frequent the counter, too awkward to stand elsewhere. The air was getting thick, so you opted to loiter at that spot by some old jukebox that’s probably been out of service since the year you were born.
From there, you spot Chan by the billiards table, cue sticks in hand with the cheekiest smile on his stupid face.
That’s when you spot the girl.
She’s got these cute baby blue jeans, white shirt with balloon sleeves, and cream chunky sneakers that make her even more adorable. As she shuffles over to lean over the table, she closes an eye in concentration, and with her stick, she does a quick push to hit the white ball. And she misses.
Chan releases the most melodious laugh, one saturated in nothing but elation at the sight of the girl who pouts and shoves him but the impact doesn’t do much to him. Pulling her close by her waist, he presses a gentle kiss onto the crown of her head.
Even that corny dork found love. You remember him talking about this girl he’s been dating since high school, Kyungmi, and how he’d been crushing on her since he saw her play at her soccer match. Granted, she slipped and fell onto the muddy field because she didn’t tie her shoelaces, her pants stained brown and he lent her his hoodie for her to wrap around her waist. Since then, they’ve been inseparable.
Why couldn’t you and Seokmin be like that?
Instead, he chooses to be a fucking ass.
Another weighted breath surrenders from your lungs as your shoulders slouches even further. The ice floating atop the margarita is thinning, a layer of water amassing above the alcoholic beverage. The loveseat is what it’s called; a strawberry lemonade margarita, the saccharine juices of both artificial fruit and a slice of the actual strawberry plopped in, it’s a combination of how you were starting to see love as. Seemingly naturally sweet, you eventually learn from the clumps of syrup at the bottom that it’s not as authentic as you used to think it was from the half cut berry that's saturated with liquor.
You take a sip of the watered down cocktail. So much for us, Lee Seokmin. Nose scrunching up, you’re debating if it’s from the thought of him or the tartness of the citrus.
Waiting for Seokmin was starting to become embarrassing. A hopeless romantic is a nickname you never thought you’d find yourself possessing, one that sounds good on the pages of a fairytale or on a screen of a romcom but in reality, it’s naive to be in an unrequited love. The words that leave his lips are nothing but just that—the dialogue of a screenplay meant for a melodrama and not the genuine feelings he inhabits. These types of plots were only interesting in a form of entertainment–not the realities of life.
Maybe you should fuck around. Why are you wasting time anyways? If Seokmin gets to, you should too.
Oh. Right.
After the fourth guy that tried offering to buy you a drink at the bar, you realize how despairing the dating scene is. It’s not for you—well, it’s particularly due to the fact that you’re at some hippie bar downtown; beanies on beanies on plaid and plaid and plaid… it’s not even that cold yet for autumn, what’s with these people with no variety in their closets?
But that’s not to mention that you get attached too fucking quickly.
Your high school love? What was his name again? Just kidding—of course you remember his name, you doodled it all over the pages of your notebook with hearts all around it. Kwon Soonyoung. He dyed his hair a sunflower blonde and spiked it up once he figured out how to use the machines at the gym. Fawning over him was an understatement; you were one of the girls that sat tables away at the lunchroom, chin resting on the palm of your hand with a longing sigh. How could a jock like him ever notice a simple girl like you?
And how did you fall for him in the first place?
Home room, 6:28am, just 2 minutes away from the bell. You dropped your pencil on the floor, ready to snatch it up but Soonyoung was faster. He handed it off to you, fingertips brushing against yours as he showcased that pearly white teeth of his. Then in the candied voice, he said, “yours?” followed by, “your lashes are pretty.”
You were smitten within seconds.
So, yeah. This whole fuck around thing wasn’t in the cards for you, which meant dating is a lot more of a serious topic than Seokmin sees it.
Maybe you’ll keep giving it a shot.
Then there’s this guy. Man. Gentleman? His name is Eunwoo (or something, that’s what you hear over the loud bass booming through the speakers above you… suddenly you’re wishing the jukebox worked), he’s a mechanic and he loves fixing up old cars. You propose the idea of working on your old beast and he let out a chuckle, shaking his head with a lovely smile before saying, “I don’t normally do personal favors but… only if you really want me to.” He approaches you with an interesting greeting, in verbatim, “you look like you’re here against your will. Would you kill me if I used a sleazy pick-up line to ask if I could get a shot to make it better?”
Usually, you’d say no. But… you honestly are kind of bored and how much more disappointed could you get? It already feels like the rock bottom of the dating pool anyways.
But, luckily enough, you’re proven wrong. He’s different—a good kind of different. Eunwoo shares about how didn’t go to college, deciding that opening his own shop and utilizing the experience he had during high school working underneath cars would be more beneficial than a degree in bullshit. And he doesn’t ask if you want another drink—the half drunken margarita with condensation dripping from the sides is enough to give away that you’re done with it for the night. A man with manners, great observation skills and boundaries? Wow, can someone sign you up? (You don’t know if you really mean that).
When a couple of wasted boys start yelling at each other, Eunwoo does this thing where his hand hovers over your back as he leans in just barely, respecting your space and asks, “Wanna move this over there?” with his head gesturing in a direction away from the ruckus.
Fuck. He’s… sweet.
But you can’t fucking help comparing him to Lee Seokmin.
Good or bad, you’re not entirely sure. What you do know is that Seokmin… doesn’t look at you in the same way that Eunwoo does. He’s intrigued, and the swirls of coffee cups for eyes he has is sodden with adoration. When you talk about your job, Eunwoo asks questions that range from ‘What is it that you exactly do?’ to ‘Is this your passion?’ He shows genuine interest, not even realizing that his shoulder is sore from leaning on the jukebox too long that when he shifts in his position, his arm cracks multiple times.
“Should we get outta here?” he asks, slipping the old silver Zippo lighter from his pocket as the two of you slip out of the bar. He pops a cigarette between those pretty lips, a clink sound when he flicks open the cap and the wick heats up the bud. “You’ll see that car of mine that I told ‘ya about and we can stop by that diner five minutes out.”
A 2008 Spicy Red KIA Sorento.
“For a car guy, I wasn’t really expecting… a simple KIA.”
He laughs; it’s gentle and kind, just like his eyes, and he unlocks the doors with a click of a button on the fob. “It’s a friend’s car. He wanted me to check on some stuff. Just driving it around to see if I can hear that funny rattling sound he’s talking about.”
“Hmm,” you hum in amusement, stopping in your tracks when the two of you approach his car. “Then what do you drive?”
Eunwoo turns to you with a soft chuckle. “A Toyota Prius.”
“I don’t usually get into guys’ cars that I just met,” you confess, and Eunwoo’s smile widens even further. “And you’re not the exception either. How about I give you my number instead? Maybe if I trust you enough, I’ll let you take me for a spin in that Prius.”
He rests back against his car, a soft chuckle escaping from his chest as he shakes his head. “Although I wanted to take you out for an oreo milkshake from a diner—”
“—I might need to pop a lactaid pill before that—”
Eunwoo bites his bottom lip from letting out another snicker. “—I’ll make sure to take you to it next time and that you take that anti-lactose or whatever pill. You know what makes a good diner?”
You tilt your head. “What’s that?”
“If at least one of the letters on the sign’s light goes out or flickers,” he frees the puff of smoke from his lips before tossing the filter to the ground and stomping it with the bottom of his shoe. “But I respect that. Don’t go to the homes or into cars of men you just met.”
Eunwoo unlocks his phone and clicks the green phone app before handing it to you. “I’ll text you. I got an early morning tomorrow anyway, it was probably best that you rejected my offer. After all, we would’ve talked all night.”
As cheesy as that pick up line is, it holds some truth.
Eunwoo texts you through the night—he’s funny, charming, and manages to make a simple conversation engaging. Do guys normally tell you about how they ripped their pants in front of their 4th grade classroom because they dropped their pencil during their book report read-aloud? He even got you spilling about how when you took a nap after an exam in high school, you woke yourself up from a fart and looked around to make sure no one heard that. And that’s why you never go anywhere in public after a fiber protein bar.
Then it had you thinking: why can’t Seokmin seem as interested in you as Eunwoo?
Never has he once had a conversation with you that led to the point that you were talking about the most embarrassing grade school stories. It reached to the point that you somehow looped the topic to be about the first time you’ve ever gotten so drunk, you fell asleep in front of your dorm’s vending machine! (To be fair, three of your other college friends were also knocked out in front of that very same machine).
And if you’re comparing all the boys you’ve loved before fairly, Soonyoung still ended up being your first relationship in spite of your constant inner dialogue telling you that he’d never be with you. You ended up breaking up because of college—he had gotten into his dream university that was thousands of miles away, and you couldn’t turn down the scholarship that was being offered by yours.
Seokmin is only centimeters away and still couldn’t give you the same attention that Soonyoung did in freshman year of college before you both realized it wasn’t going to work.
Tumblr media
It’s Saturday.
Which means it’s the day.
When you spot Chan in a booth towards the front of the venue, he looks a little nervous–well, little feels like quite an understatement in that sentence. The boy is bouncing on the balls of his feet with his eyes skimming the entire arena like the very thing he’s afraid of is going to pop up at any second. He’s got on the same white racing overalls that match with the rest of Seokmin’s team with his name plastered across his back and the logos of the companies that sponsored him.
You hope that someone will wear Chan’s name one day.
There are girls that stand beside Chan in shirts with Seokmin’s numbers displayed and it leaves you wondering if he ever did anything more with them other than signing their paychecks.
“Hey,” you greet, furrowing your brows. The way Chan continuously checks his surroundings like a prey, awaiting to run away from its predator doesn’t get missed. “Where’s my sweatshirt?”
“Uh,” he stumbles with his phone in his hands, nearly dropping it on the floor before he shuffles through the shelves underneath to grab yours for you. “H-Here you go..”
You take the sweatshirt from him. “What’s up with you?”
“He’s on edge,” Chan says, fingers tapping against the table. “Well, he will be the moment he spots Wonwoo. And he could be here any minute now. I’m not sure how the fuck he’s gonna act, but he’s gonna react for sure.”
“I don’t get the whole deal with Wonwoo,” you say as you slip your arms through, pulling the sweatshirt over your head as your words get muffled in the thickness of the fabric. “He’s just some racer, right? Plus, Seok doesn’t even know how the guy drives. Why’s he so—”
As your head peeks through the neckband, you freeze when you hear that infamous name slip from Chan’s lips.
“O-Oh, hi, Wonwoo.”
“Hey, you’re… Chan, right?” he greets, hands in the front pockets of his blue jeans, a soft smile upon his face. “I saw you at that newbies tournament a couple weeks ago. You did so good, proud of you. I hope to see you with the big dogs one day.”
Hold up.
The charm, the gentle voice… those cute glasses…
He’s… Wonwoo.
The bar was infuriatingly loud that you misheard his name.
He’s not Eunwoo, and the fact that it didn’t register in your head fast enough when he kept giving you clues last night while the two of you texted until the sun rose was dumb on your part. He kept saying, “I need to get up early to drive tomorrow,” and spoke about his car incessantly like it was his passion or something. He’s fucking Wonwoo.
Well, no shit.
He’s a fucking racecar driver.
“Hey,” Wonwoo greets. He’s got on a dark washed denim jacket, and thin wire framed glasses that compliments the amiableness in his grin. There’s something about him that’s disparate to Seokmin, and you figure that it’s his affable nature drawing you in. Seokmin was a great friend, but it took a while to build that trust. Wonwoo? It only took a brief conversation for him to get your number. “Didn’t think I’d find you here. Did you sleep well?”
“Can’t say that I did,” you admit, words not matching that grin you mimic on his face. He’s so contagious when it comes to his smile. “But… I think the results of what came out of it was worth it. Did you sleep well?”
“Can’t say that I did either,” he mocks jokingly. Wonwoo’s eyes detach from yours, now averted to the image sewn into the right side of your sweatshirt. “I was going to ask what brings you here but…” he points to Seokmin’s prized possession—aka not your heart but ironically placed right above it. His car. “Seems like I know what team you’re playing for.”
“I—” you clear your throat, unsure why you’re stuttering or trying to explain yourself. You’re allowed to be here, even if you’re rooting for another driver. “I, uh, I’m here for Seokmin.”
Wonwoo raises a brow playfully. “Really? Is that so?”
Chan lets out a laugh; it seems that when Seokmin is in the room, he feels more anxious on the topic of Wonwoo. But when Wonwoo is present and Seokmin is out of the equation, the weight of the burden on his shoulders lessens. “She’s Seokmin’s lucky charm.”
“Oh, wow,” Wonwoo crosses his arms with an amused expression. “I knew it was too good to be true for you to be single. Did I make that assumption too soon? I’m sorry if I was too forward, I—”
“Oh, she’s not with Seokmin like that.”
Tempted to whack Chan on the shoulder, he’s quick with his reflexes when he realizes he must’ve struck a chord. “Hey, hey, hey, I’m just stating the facts here!” He steps away from you. “You and him aren’t official, and probably won’t be for a while or even at all. I’m just saying, if Wonwoo here is shooting his shot, maybe let him aim for you, yeah?”
You narrow your gaze at the younger male. “Lee Chan.”
Wonwoo furrows his brows in confusion. “What am I missing’ at here?”
“She’s a hopeless romantic,” Chan adds, nudging you. “Seokmin said that if she’d wait for him, he’d come to her when he’s ready.”
Wonwoo clicks his tongue. “Sounds kinda fucked up.” It is fucked up, but what is also fucked up is that Chan is exposing you. What if Wonwoo has a certain perspective of you now?
The stern tone in your voice when you call his name doesn’t feel threatening this time around, only because in his mind, he sees a new boyfriend candidate for you. Chan’s a brother you never had, a kid who wanted the best for the girl who was close enough to be his sister. He smiles, learning speedily that Wonwoo might be the first guy other than Seokmin to tug on your heartstrings.
“I mean, Seokmin might not be happy about it but he’s never been mad at you, so I doubt you’ll piss him off,” Chan grins cheekily. “So, Wonwoo. How do you know my lovely friend?”
“We met at the bar last night,” Wonwoo begins, and although the answer was for Chan, his sparkling irises are on you. So… he wasn’t put off by the whole thing? “Clicked, hopefully hit it off, she gave me her number, and we had a nice talk over text. Needless to say, we talked all night.” He chuckles, finally breaking contact with you and glances over at Chan. “Probably explains the dark circles under my eyes, but definitely worth it. Even if she’s wearing merch from my competitor.”
With a hand slipping into your own back pocket, you roll your lips. Okay. He’s endearing. Somehow, he manages to get you to forget about Seokmin for a brief moment.
Wonwoo zeroes in on you. “I don’t know about you, but I enjoyed our conversation. And I’m hoping that you’d be okay if I asked you on a date sometime… even if you have your reservations about taking it up because of him.”
Mouth slightly agape, the fear of the race dissipates from Chan. Instead, awe is replaced at the sight of you and Seokmin’s competition. Since when did you steal the heart of one of the best street racers? Even you have to mentally give yourself a pat on the shoulder for being able to swoon two desirable men. What is this? Some shitty written romance movie?
To be fair, you never really want to say yes when a guy asks you out. They’ve never given you a good reason to, especially when you had Seokmin on your mind most of the time. But for once, just this once, Wonwoo makes you forget. Somehow he fogs up your thoughts with him instead of the guy you’ve been waiting for so helplessly. It was to the point that you found yourself pathetic, even, but with Wonwoo, you don’t feel that way anymore.
He listens. And for someone who you only met for a day, he talked to you as if he’d known you for a lifetime. Wonwoo shared his deepest insecurities, his dreams, and the things and people he loved within those late hours.
It’s more than Seokmin has ever done and he’d been your best friend for a while.
“I’d… I think I’d like that.”
He sort of makes your heart skip a beat. “Great,” there was an excited bounce in his stance, “what’s one thing you’ve always wanted to do?”
“I don’t know, anything but changing a tire,” you say in a second, and Wonwoo laughs at your response. He’s really good at this whole ‘make a girl fall in love with me’ thing because your face heats up in embarrassment when you realize how lame your joke was. “… I’m just kidding. But I’ll let you make the plans.”
“Sure, I’ll plan the date.” Rolling his lips, he tilts his head to the side with a narrowed stare. “But, I should ask. Do you know how to change a tire?”
You shrug. “My best friend says if that ever happened, he’s a call away.”
“And if he’s not?”
“He will,” you answer, the tone in your words firm but underlying, the foundation of it is shaky. “He promised.”
There’s uneasiness in his expression, watching as you fiddle with your fingers as if you’re the one who feels uncertain about what you said. “Alright, if he says so. But uh,” he sneaks a glimpse at the television screen that displays on the side of the track, quickly patting Chan’s shoulder before giving the two of you a slight wave. “I gotta head out. I’ll talk to ‘ya later, yea?”
And with that, he disappears along with the crowd of people who begin to flood the arena with their tickets in hand and cups of beers in the other. Wonwoo was mysterious yet an open book in unison, and despite what people say about strangers at a bar, he doesn’t feel like one.
“Shit, before I interrogate you and Seokmin beats the shit out of us—well, me, he likes you—we gotta go. They’re preppin’ and I don’t wanna miss anything. I’m supposed to be the understudy and he’ll be so pissed if I’m late.” He’s stumbling to grab his belongings, “And he’s already dumb mad that I put whole milk instead of almond in his coffee this morning.”
Although the words are ready to leave the tip of your tongue, Chan bolts out of there faster than they could spill.
Then it hits.
At the moment, it happens in the blink of an eye. The amount of anxiety that was churning through your stomach, and your heart racing at the speed of the cars on the track, you didn’t realize the mess you caught yourself in.
You agreed to go on a date with your best friend’s enemy.
But in all honesty, you didn’t think you’d be able to confront Wonwoo again and tell him that you couldn’t. He was so goddamn fucking charming, exhibiting manners that all the mothers around the world would praise him for. Anyone who would find out that you turned down a date with a guy like Wonwoo would probably give you an earful.
Then again, Seokmin might give you an earful.
Maybe you won’t tell him.
It’s one date… right?
Plus, with Wonwoo being himself, there’s no way that Seokmin could actually be that annoyed with him. He spoke to Chan in such a respectful way, treated him like a younger classmate, and even expressed how proud he was of him for getting to where he is now. Seokmin couldn’t actually hate Wonwoo on the track. Couldn’t be possible.
That is until you saw living proof right in front of you.
Seokmin is tempted; fists clamped shut at his side, you see him inhale in a deep breath that juts his chest out. His nose does a little spasm, irritated even though he attempts to hold himself back. “Go back to where you belong.”
You find yourself back in Seokmin’s pit, expecting him to do his frequent routine before he hopped into the vehicle. Instead, he’s standing right outside of his car, face to face with Jeon Wonwoo who remains calm, cool, and collected, paying no mind that Seokmin is just inches away from driving his fist into Wonwoo’s cheekbone. It’s enticing, but Seokmin knows he can’t do it in public with thousands of people watching.
“Come on, Dokyeom, I’m allowed on the track,” he’s got a smug look on his face as he speaks. “It’s not like shit’s got your name outside the stadium. You don’t own it.”
“Dokyeom?” You reiterate, head turning from Wonwoo to Seokmin. “Why’s he calling you Dokyeom?”
Seokmin doesn’t break his stare on Wonwoo. Jaw clenched, teeth gritting, he even sucks in his cheeks in the heat of the moment with his fists fully balled by his sides. The fury in his eyes were burning flames that you fear would somehow spread into reality and burn the arena down. “Wonwoo, I thought you said you’d stay out of my way.”
“I never said anything,” the other male says tranquilly, zipping up his navy blue racing overalls up to his neck. In comparison to Seokmin, Wonwoo doesn’t have as many sponsors other than for three companies that barely had any fame to their name. “All I said was that I didn’t know if I'd make it up here with the big dogs. And well, look at me. Livin’ the dream. You should be proud of me, Kyeom, not throwing a bitch fit.”
“You fucking lied.”
“Why’s it matter?” Wonwoo queries, tilting his head to the side in curiosity. “Are you nervous? I thought you didn’t get nervous. Is it ‘cause you finally found someone with the equal amount of skill here? You can’t win forever, Kyeom-ie. One of these days, you gotta be kicked off that goddamn pedestal. Not a hot look for you.”
“Alright, alright,” you interject, pushing Seokmin’s (or was it Dokyeom’s) chest back to prevent him from making the first swing. “It’s almost time to start and I’d rather have you both behind the wheel without a bruised eye.”
“The only fucking bitch leaving here with a bruised face is him,” Seokmin hisses, but his body loosens the tenseness when he feels your touch. “Get off my turf, Jeon Wonwoo. You don’t belong here.”
And just on time, his name is written in bright letters across the television screens surrounding the arena.
JEON WONWOO, RACER NUMBER FIVE.
With a cocky grin, Wonwoo crosses his arms as he glances up at his name displayed and back on Seokmin. “It looks like everyone here begs to differ. See you on the track, Kyeomie.”
With an exasperated scoff, he tosses his gloves onto the ground. Wonwoo doesn’t bat a lash or even sneak a glance at the turmoil he leaves behind, instead he waltzes his way to his crew members who don’t dress in uniform as Seokmin’s team did.
“That jackass,” he hisses. “Does he fucking understand that this place isn’t for him?”
“Why’d he call you Dokyeom?” It’s bold of you to ask a question in the middle of his tantrum, but you’ve been patient enough. “I thought your real name was Seokmin.”
The anger still pulls on his features–he used to go soft for you. “It was a nickname I had.”
“From what?”
“Don’t ask,” he says curtly. “You don’t need to know my past—all you need to be is here. You’re my lucky charm and I need you here so I can win.”
With that, he slips his helmet on, flipping down the shield to cover his face. Ever since Wonwoo’s name was brought up in conversations, Seokmin’s demeanor changes and he doesn’t feel right; he isn’t quite the same person as he used to be. There’s something about Wonwoo that irritates him, and although he incessantly states that it’s because he’s a street racer, you think there’s more than what he lets out to be.
As told, you sit in the bleachers patiently, legs pressed together anxiously with your thermos filled with your coffee in hand, watching as Seokmin climbs into the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
Like you’re supposed to.
As you’re asked to.
Just as you always do.
There’s always this part of you that wonders: Is it worth waiting for a guy like Seokmin to notice you in the way you see him? During those late nights, the ones where he doesn’t go off into the sunset with a pretty girl under his arm, he lays underneath the stars with you, and reminds you that you’re the person that he wants to settle down with. Seokmin says he sees the two of you, on the porch with your rocking chairs of your future home with a big lawn, kids running on the grass with screams and laughter, sharing nothing but love for each other.
But each time he walks away with someone who isn’t you, the wait becomes more of a struggle.
It’s worse than waiting for the results of an exam that you know you failed, that feeling of being sick to your stomach and on the verge of vomiting. Your chest aches more than a sad, angsty romcom you’d watch back in your teenage years as if you’d experience the same heartbreak as the couples on the big screen.

You had been friends with Tommy long before the days of Mötley Crüe. In fact, you had been friends with him for so long that when the band was formed and started to get big, he insisted you come on tours with him and the boys.
“Come on, it’s only for a couple of weeks,” he’d say. “You can take a couple of weeks off work, right?”
“I can’t just up and leave work out of nowhere, Tommy,” you told him. “I don’t have that many vacation days saved up, if I leave for that long I’ll get fired.”
“Then quit! I’ll find a spot for you on tour, you can be like our roadie or something!”
Eventually, he managed to convince you to go. Deep down, you knew he’d eventually get the yes. You were so proud for him, you knew you couldn’t turn down the opportunity to watch your best friend achieve his dreams.
Of course, “just a few weeks” turned into a few months, and then about a year, and before you knew it, you were touring with Mötley Crüe basically every night. As he promised, Tommy did get you a job on tour as a sort of roadie, but their manager liked you enough that he didn’t put you to work constantly.
As to be expected, with touring came groupies and girls who wanted to get with the band members just because they were Mötley Crüe, and Tommy, the poor hopeless romantic he was, always fell for these girls. He could never see past the facade of the dazzling smiles and the meaningless words and only saw what he wanted to see, a new potential girlfriend in his eyes.
This resulted in an engagement to a very obvious groupie, Roxie.
Being the only other girl on tour with the guys, you could see right through Roxie’s loving facade. You saw the way she looked at other guys, especially members of other bands at clubs. This, unfortunately, was not limited to Tommy’s own band mate, Nikki, whom you caught sharing looks with Roxie every now and then.
You knew you had to tell Tommy, but you didn’t want to break the poor guy’s heart. He was so in love with Roxie, and he genuinely believed she loved him, too. He was constantly talking about his upcoming marriage, and his dreams for the wedding.
“Okay, check this out,” he said to you one day, falling into the chair next to you on the tour bus. He laid out a piece of paper in front of the two of you and began to draw. “The dream is an outdoor wedding. Somewhere nature-y. Have the chairs set up here, like this, and have some sort of archway here that Roxie and I will stand under. And you and the boys here - ”
“Wait,” you cut him off, “me? With the boys?”
“Yeah, I want you to be my Best Man, or I guess Best Woman.”
This was the first time Tommy had mentioned this to you. You figured he was so excited for the wedding that he forgot the part about actually telling the Groom’s Men what role they were going to play. Of course, you didn’t expect Roxie to ask you to be in her Bridal Party, not with your differences and her knowing that you saw right through her bullshit, but you were shocked that Tommy wanted to choose you over one of the guys to be his Best Man.
“I’m honored, Tommy,” you told him. “And I love your idea for the wedding, but shouldn’t you be discussing this with your bride to be?”
“She’s asleep, I’ll show her when she wakes up.”
You two sat for some time, discussing the wedding. You were making some suggestions for the reception and Tommy was crudely drawing it the best he could. Neither one of you heard Roxie walking in until she spoke.
“Well, don’t the two of you look cozy.”
You realized then that you had your head on Tommy’s shoulder and the two of you were basically cuddling. You pulled away from Tommy, trying to seem nonchalant but realizing the speed in which you pulled away made it look a little more suspicious.
“Hey baby!” Tommy said, with that goofy smile on his face. “(Y/N) was helping me place everything for our wedding! Come look.”
“Yes, for our wedding,” Roxie said, sneering the word in your direction as she sat on Tommy’s lap. You suppressed an eye roll as she kissed Tommy deeply before kissing his neck in the spot that you had become all too familiar with as being his sweet spot. “Looks great baby, I can’t wait.”
She hadn’t even looked at the paper.
Before Tommy could say anything else, one of the boys called him over to discuss the stage show. He placed Roxie on the seat next to you and left the two of you. You smiled briefly at her before going back to the book you had been reading before Tommy interrupted you.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing,” Roxie sneered in your ear.
You looked at her in confusion. “I...don’t know what you mean?”
“You and Tommy, you’re trying to make a move on him.”
You scoffed. “Please! Tommy’s been my best friend basically my whole life. He’s in love with you and no one could take that from you. I was helping him with the wedding, that’s it.”
“My wedding,” Roxie hissed. “Please bitch, I can see right through you. I know you don’t like me because I’m on his dick and you’re not, and you’re just waiting to ruin our relationship.”
You looked over to see if Tommy was paying attention to the situation before you leaned in to whisper to Roxie, “If I wanted to ruin your relationship, I’d bring him to Nikki’s dressing room when you and him are ‘visiting’. Tommy is a good man, Roxie, and he genuinely loves you. If you don’t feel the same, I think you should end the engagement.”
Roxie scoffed this time. “There you go again! Trying to ruin my relationship!”
“Roxie, we’re friends!”
“Please, you’re a glorified groupie.”
Her words rendered you speechless. She seemed proud of that. She sat back in her seat and smirked at you as you struggled with a comeback. You were trying to hold back the lump that was growing in your throat, but it was nearly impossible. Tears were welling in your eyes, but you didn’t want to admit defeat. You had nowhere to go, though. Roxie was blocking your path.
“What did you just say?”
Neither one of you had noticed Tommy standing over you. He was looking between you and Roxie with a shocked look on his face. Roxie’s smirk didn’t go away as she openly repeated her insult.
“She’s a glorified groupie! She’s just hanging around because she wants to try and fuck you. Why else would she uproot her entire life and follow you during your entire career? She’s desperate!”
The whole bus was silent. The boys were looking at you and Roxie in shock as well. If there was one thing everyone knew about Tommy, it was that you did not insult his best friend.
“Fuck you,” Tommy hissed, which shocked everyone even more. “Jesus Christ, Roxie, how can someone be such a bitch to absolutely everyone? (Y/N) has never done anything to you, why would you say that shit about her?”
Roxie tried to stutter something out but Tommy cut her off by calling to the bus driver, “Stop the bus!”
He took a hold of Roxie’s arms and roughly pulled her out of her chair. You stood, although you weren’t sure why. You didn’t mind seeing Roxie getting what she deserved. “Tommy, what are you doing?”
“I’m done with this, Roxie,” he said, ignoring your question. “I’m done with hearing you bad mouth (Y/N), as if you’re not the one fucking Nikki. Oh yeah, I know. I’ve known for a long time, I had just hoped that if I married you, maybe you’d leave all that behind. How fucking naive was I?”
“So you’re just gonna end our engagement and kick me off the bus for that skank?” Roxie shrieked in anger.
“The only skank here is you, Roxie,” Tommy retorted. “Now get the fuck out!”
Roxie huffed in anger and exited the bus. She slammed the door so hard behind her that the entire bus shook, and as we left her, we watched her flip us off while she called out muffled insults and profanities.
Tommy was seething in anger. He went to the back room in the bus and shut the door without another word. The guys and I looked at one another, unsure as what to do.
“One of us needs to talk to him,” Vince decided.
“Not Nikki,” Mick said. “If Nikki goes in here, the kid might cut his dick off.”
“Listen, it’s not my fault, I didn’t know he was that serious about her,” Nikki tried to defend.
“Not the time, Nikki,” you cut the bassist off. “I’ll go talk to him, I technically caused all of this after all.”
You went to the back room and slowly slid the door open. You expected Tommy to yell in anger for whoever was just barging in to leave, but you were shocked to see he was looking up at you, almost expecting you to have followed him.
As if reading your mind, he explained, “You always came to check on me when I was upset.”
“That’s what friends are for,” you told him. “Are you okay, Tommy?”
“I can’t believe I tried to convince myself I was in love with her,” he sighed. “I mean, she was hot and she was an excellent fuck, but she was a fucking bitch to absolutely everyone. Do you know I haven’t brought her to meet mom and dad yet? All the times they’ve come to the sets of music videos or have seen us on tour and I made sure they wouldn’t meet Roxie cause I knew they wouldn’t approve. Roxie is not the type of girl you marry, she’s the type that...”
“You sleep with,” you finished. “A groupie.”
Tommy scoffed. “I can’t believe she called you a glorified groupie, as if you’re the one who has been sleeping with my band mate.”
You chuckled. “Yeah, like that’ll ever happen. I wouldn’t touch those boys with a ten foot pole. Nikki and Vince surely have some sort of STD, if not several, and Mick is too grumpy to want to fuck anyone.”
You and Tommy laughed together. With the threat of his awful ex-fiancee gone, you felt comfortable enough to rest your head on his shoulder. “If you didn’t really love her, why were you so excited about the wedding and planning it earlier?”
“You know me, I’m a hopeless romantic. I want to find the right girl and settle down and get married. Even if I knew Roxie wasn’t the right girl, she was the girl I was marrying. I wanted it to be a good wedding, even if I was sure the marriage wouldn’t even last.”
“You shouldn’t have to settle for whichever girl says yes to your proposal, Tom,” you told him. “You deserve a girl who will give you as much love as you give her. A girl who will give you her heart and soul, the way you give yours. A girl who loves you, and only you.”
“What if I’ve already found her?”
You lifted your head to look at him, raising an eyebrow. “Well, if you have I’d hope you’d tell your best friend.”
Tommy smiled. “I think you know her pretty well.”
You couldn’t understand for a moment, but it clicked in when you saw the look in Tommy’s eyes. You had seen that look many times before; when he was looking at one of his girlfriends. It was a look of love, as if you were the only girl on the planet. Receiving that look, you really felt like you were.
“You like me?” you asked in disbelief.
“Took you long enough to figure out,” Tommy laughed. “I mean, I’ve only been trying to make a move our entire friendship. At first I thought you just weren’t interested, and then I realized that you just didn’t know how I felt.”
“You should’ve come out and said it!”
“But what if you said no?”
“Well, I’m not saying no, am I?”
Tommy perked up at this. “Wait..so...are you saying?”
You giggled and pulled Tommy forward to give him a small kiss. It took him by surprise and, by the time he realized and went to kiss back, you were pulling away.
“Next break you get, take me on a proper date drummer boy,” you told him.
Tommy nodded quickly. “Yeah, yeah. I mean...okay, I will.”
You giggled and kissed Tommy again, relaxing into his arms as you both decided to utilize the privacy of the back room for yourselves.

Blank Space - Chapter 12
Part 11
———————
Boys only want love if it's torture Don't say I didn't say, I didn't warn ya
Eighty seven. Eighty eight. Eighty nine.
What day is it again? He kept both eyes shut; it doesn’t seem to have any difference at this moment. All is pitch black, sunrise looks like midnight and the dawn appears like an eternity without any sheer of light. Last night, he has another weird dream, a term he agreed with himself to call it as a replacement for nightmare. It’s not frightening, it’s just odd.
In that dream he was standing in an undefined vast space full of shadow passing by and among those absurd creatures he caught a smile. Just smile, as if it’s floating on the air instead of belong to particular face. The smile was familiar for the Jinki in his dream. However, the sober Jinki could never tell who that is which stressed him way too far for a merely form of hallucination.
He stirred under the blanket. The uncomfortable weight of the mounds of cotton forced him to kick the poor duvet. Too heavy, it just flopped back to its position, only to irritate him even further. Palms pressed to his face, he wished the instant friction on the skin washed over the weariness.
But of course he could only wish.
Ninety. Ninety one. Ninety two.
There’s a slight crack on the wooden beams on his ceiling that he noticed just now. After he gave up and checked the life rotating around him. He then wondered, for how long the crack has been there. And how come it didn’t catch his attention before today? Random calculation of the bending moment and load combination suddenly came up inside his twisted mind, occupy the vacant space he’s been neglecting these past weeks.
He blinks, one and two. His vision’s projecting the same image, hypnotizing in a way, hinting a pinch of motion sickness as a precaution. The crack’s there, still, visually concerning, but seemed like it doesn’t bother the whole structure supporting the floor above. From down there, the crack is simply filling the gap, completing the entire system.
He wished the crack in his heart is as static as that. But of course, he could only wish.
Ninety three. Ninety four. Ninety five.
Distorted and obscure, that’s how everything’s pictured behind his closed back eyes. The timeline of his memory is jumbled, it’s patchy at the edge and fragmented inside and out. How it happened, he couldn’t tell. But how it felt, he had at least half of the dictionary to complain about it. About how unfair it is, about how agonizing it is.
One moment in life, he’s seeing how happy Gwiboon talked about his corny jokes which deadly annoying but actually helping her dealing with the pressure of the fashion week at the same time. Any other second, he went red when the fraction of his memory flashed, force him to dredge up how he screamed directly to her face like a mad man, asking what kind of joke she was pulling out. She said she desperately wants to spend their bubble together, a little longer, until the day turns week, and week turns months. Then again she also stormed out the room on the next day, all drenched and broken, mimicking the same hazard occurred inside his chest.
Gwiboon is more than a crush, more than a fling, more than a good catch he discovered across the field. He wished she wasn’t.
But of course, again, he could only wish.
Ninety six. Ninety seven.
Men can only wish, the sky, at the end, would be the one who decide was it worth to be granted or not. He spent a whole night in secluded beach, a hideout place he learnt from his grandfather, screaming to the far high sky, but the wound unfastened wider. At some point he admits, he was partly responsible. He wanted – and loved – the idea of a relationship, but terribly in fear for the actual relationship.
What’s bad for being in a relationship? You idiot, Lee Jinki! He cursed silently, for the thousand times already this week. That if he didn’t count words spilled out his mouth when he was unconscious.
Ninety eight. Ninety nine.
Jinki can list at least ten reasons in less than five minutes why he didn’t pull his ass together and man up telling Gwiboon his feeling instead dropping some barricade with the whole being-casual-and-let’s-not-put-any-label-on-it shenanigans. And out of those ten reasons, none of them because of something that Gwiboon did. Or feel.
After all, he has no heart to blame her.
Hundred.
***
It’s easy to put a mask around the house, especially with a father who’s that busy and a mother who recently found a new hobby in her flower arrangement club. Unfortunately, not when a little devil descendant like Lee Taemin is actually present.
Jinki is about to go out, suffocated inside his room and suddenly feeling skimpy with just helplessly cuddling his pillow. He finally charged his phone and took his iPod out from the dock. While the other family members are somewhere scattered between living room and the kitchen, he managed to take a very quick shower and put on some presentable clothes.
Today, he opted to pick brown-maroon sweater, attempt to distinguish his feeling after last week his Mom was complaining about all the black dirty laundry he piled up making her doubling the effort doing the laundry since she had to separate all those clothes to not ruin each other. He snatched pair of jeans carelessly and as if all the constellations are lined up to pinch a joke on him, it happened to be the cropped jeans Kim Gwiboon decided to put her magic on it a while ago.
“Do you like the idea of me making you clothes?”
Jinki looked up for just a second before focused back on the contemporary art book on his hands, “What does that supposed to mean? Sounds really domestic on my ears just now.”
“Oh, please. I just asked permission, like, is it okay if I spice up your wardrobe a little bit?”
“I don’t think I need any.. but if you insisted, then I guess it’s okay. Your hands wouldn’t do something disastrous anyway.”
“Good. Because I already did,” she handed him back the jeans she stole from his wardrobe few days before, “Your jeans are all the same and I noticed you kept wearing the same ones over and over again I almost sure if I assessed it a little bit more attentively I would find holes at some point. That’s boring and I don’t want my man’s boring. So give that a try and thank me later.”
He looked himself at the mirror, his eyes struck on both his ankle when the end of the jeans hanging with jumbled strain of threads, the vivid evidences that once, Kim Gwiboon existed in his dull life. To entertain his boring life.
Boring.
Yeah, maybe that’s why she left me, because I’m boring, Jinki thought.
He thought she would be forever, they would be forever, because finally Jinki thought he found someone who leveled very well with his obduracy without coercing themselves too far. Turned out, this time is not any different with the previous relationship that he head, got his hope high then spitted out back to the earth right on the top of rocky valley. Not like the thing he had with Gwiboon could be entitled a relationship anyway. He wouldn’t dare to call it that.
If only I could muster up some courage back then and just asked her out in a very proper way, I would feel so much worthier than merely a fuck buddy.
He pocketed the car keys, inhaled a very deep breath, practiced his auto-reply smile before exited his dungeon. And there he is, waiting by the corner of the breakfast island, the devious Lee Taemin who’s always up to roast his own brother.
“Oh, hello universe. The grad student is finally showed up! Congratulation!! We need to celebrate this very soon! Should I buy some champagne?”
Jinki kicked the stool where he sit furiously before poured himself a good amount of orange juice, the bright yellow liquid vanished in less than thirty seconds.
“I heard from your Mom, Buddy. Finally, you’re going.”
“It’s not in anytime soon, Dad. I just got accepted. Barely finish my final project here.”
“But you can still take the long distance single course for the first semester right?”
His father had been busy coming back and forth among Seoul, Tokyo, and London. There wouldn’t be any chance left for him to go through in his courting mode and interviewing his mother because the woman would shower him with the story of her new club before he could ask anything.
“Who told you that?”
“Your brother.”
He shot a glare to Taemin who stopped middle air from shoving a piece of taco to his mouth, “Don’t blame me. That man come to me with new pair of shoes, of course I surrendered.”
“That man is your father!” his mother slapped the back of his head which attained an annoying squeal from the youngest son.
“I am worried a little bit about you, Jinki.”
There’s a reason why his father now became a very famous attorney. His instinct works beyond human shield.
“Don’t be, Dad. I will be fine. It’s just too handful a bit now, with the final project, preparation, and also adjust the online course and everything.”
“If only you picked London, I have lots of acquaintance there who can actually help you.”
“That’s in some measure, the reason why I picked Chicago. Too many people we know in London, Dad, they might judge as well while stretching a helpful hand. Besides, it was my first choice since the bachelor but the beautiful lady over there was begging like a toddler seven years ago for me not to go there too early. I won’t give up my dream twice.”
Thanks to cousin Minjung and her obsession on NBA when they’re in the grade school. Whenever she visited, she gushed about this Chicago Bull’s to the siblings and triggered a very young Jinki to go to his father’s library and checking some books about the place along the Lake Michigan. Soon enough, he fell for the Windy City and dreamed to move and work as an architect there.
“And yet, see how stubborn you grew up into. So much effort I pulled to keep you grounded next to me. At the end you’d flee away still.”
“You better go sooner or she reenacted the same scene again, Buddy,” his father winked to him, knowing Jinki would be at least smiling on it.
“Roger that, Pops! I’m going!”
Taemin looks dejected on his seat, this is the first time since forever Jinki’s finally leaving his sanctuary that he’s witnessing and he didn’t even pay attention to him. Is he okay? Did he find another girl already? Taemin is way more worried than he used to be.
“Where?! For a date?! Why?! How?! With whom?! Why did you leave me here?! Why didn’t you say anything to me?! Dude!”
“Stop the commotion right there, Lee Taemin. I called Junghee this morning both of you are going with me to shop for my next club gathering.”
“Why on earth you called her?! And how do you know her number?! Mom!!”
The scene left Jinki shaking his head and chortling, somehow, a bit of pleasant feeling occupied his hollow core. That might be the one he would be missing so much when he’s alone abroad. However, the excitement of finally leaving all the traces screaming Gwiboon’s name whenever he turned is all that he can think about now and then. What a perfect excuse. He can’t wait to run away from every single memory of her in this house, this town, this time zone that had been hunted him ever since she asked him not to see each other anymore.
***
Jinki stood right at the check-out desk, dropped his favorite red bean buns and pulled out the wallet from his back pocket. The first thing greeted him when he opened it was the silly picture of him and Gwiboon they took one day at the photo box near Jinki’s favorite arcade because it was suddenly pouring hard. He still has no gut to throw it out because deep down he realized when he took it out, when he finally took it out, it means he needs to let it go everything and he hasn’t down for it any closer yet.
“That’s all?”
The question of the boy in front of him breaks the bubbles inside his head. Jinki’s eyes went pass him and caught the rack full of cigarettes behind. How tempting in so many ways.
“Yeah. That’s it.”
He opened the wrap immediately he stepped out the mart and decided to get his caffeine intake across the street. The café seems not that full, maybe I can still find some blind spot at the corner.
“Jinki?”
A calm voice intrigued his consciousness. He looked around for a while until a woman with short blonde hair is intruding his personal view more.
“Amber, right?”
“Yeah. I thought I called the wrong person.”
“How so? Do I look different with his hair?” Jinki jokingly pointed to his choppy hair. He attempted to cut it by himself last week since he didn’t want to go to his regular barber shop, the man over there would talk nonstop and that was the last thing he desired. The result as everyone can see, was beyond awful. Let’s just all be relieved that his hair grows in the speed of light.
“A little bit,” Amber chuckled seeing how his hair seemed done by a blind person, “But mostly because you look tired.”
Jinki laughed, but not really laughing, “Just woke up and drove here. Stay up late for the final project. How are you?”
Of course he lied, who wants to turn the situation into an awkward moment by blurted out how messed up they’re currently?
“I’m good! Quite busy at the studio but that means we’re growing. So I’m not really complaining.”
“Sounds great.”
Sounds annoying. Why can’t other people as miserable as me?
“Totally,” she looks very pumped and Jinki felt so bad for not reacting with the same level of excitement, “And how is it going with you?”
“Busy but not, bored but not, just.. so so.. you know?” Jinki snorted, tad nervous with such a simple question.
“Ah, I know.. it must be difficult for you as well.”
“As well? I thought the studio’s doing great. You’re going through something?”
Guess it’s a blessing and a curse at the same time having his personality. Being born Jinki, he can’t just ignored people’s feeling even though he knew he’s not in the current capacity to help.
“No, no, yeah, I’m great, studio, factory, all is well. I mean besides Gwiboon.. it must be hard time for you too, you know… with all this situation.”
Jinki doesn’t remember he told anyone what happened between him and the girl. Not even Taemin actually, but that kid was probably a CIA in his previous life Jinki didn’t find the necessity to tell him, nonetheless he would still just come up with some weird ideas to cheer his brother up.
Like the other day, suddenly stack of Mars appeared on his side of fridge – yes, he has his own territory inside that place because once their mother got rid of something belong to him, he exploded like a land mine. Or suddenly, chicken bucket greeted him by the corner of his desk when he came back home almost four in the morning.
But besides that, he kept everything inside. Not any single word of her came out from him after that day. She must have gone to Amber to unload her heart and narrate some stuff about them.
“What can I say?” He sent her small smile but it looks bitterer than the last pills he took for his migraine two days ago.
“I’m sorry, for both of you, really. It’s always hard to choose when it comes for this kind of crossroad, even a very smart one can be the most indecisive human being on earth. I was in her position before. In my case though, I was so much more hardheaded than Gwiboon, that way it was easier for me to leave everything behind. Gwiboon was still nice enough to think about other people around her. Her brother, you, and even her crazy parents who don’t even care. You may already know how hard her father is to his children.”
Hard to choose? Between what? Father? Why suddenly she brought up her father when Gwiboon herself never talked about the said man? Not even Jonghyun who had been friend with him longer than his sister.
“I still remember she ruck-sacked my office all tears and snots rambling about she doesn’t mind throwing herself under the bus as long as she can stay here and not being sent to the states. Poor girl.”
Sta—wait, what?
He thought he knew Gwiboon, this new found though, completely confused him to the staple. After a very quick self-deliberation, he decided to play along and stay chill. Jinki’s afraid Amber would realize she did something she’s banned to and just left the conversation hanging on the air while Jinki finally can grasp the whole portrait of the puzzle Gwiboon left behind.
“Ah she told you that?”
For Jinki that was a pure question, with a tint of hope Amber would leak some circumstances a little bit more. However for Amber, she heard that as a response of bemusement as if Gwiboon not supposed to tell anyone that and kept it only between her and Jinki.
“I am really sorry. She didn’t want to say anything at first, but I guess I was too pushy and it happened that she just couldn’t handle it by herself anymore. Her dre—“
Amber’s phone beeped before she could finish her sentence. She excused herself to check the message and immediately glancing to her wrist, unpleasant air’s very evident on her face.
“Jinki, it was really nice stumbled into you. The work is calling, though, so.. if you don’t mind..”
“Ah, yeah. Of course. Sorry I was holding you here. Thanks for the quick catch up.”
“You take care, okay?”
“I will. See you around, Amber!”
Within a minute, Amber already leaving the side of the street they were standing. Jinki felt the need of caffeine boiling inside him is just got tripled.
***
Jinki accomplished simple tasks by eleven in the morning. He changed his sheets, almost one months later – finally, his mother almost burn the filthy mattress together with it, he made himself a good cup of coffee and grilled cheese, and now started to make trial renders for his interior proposal of his final project.
He put aside his ego and locked it at the corner of the back of his head after he met Amber and of course a long drive to his grandfather graveyard only to eat two whole chicken bucket while talking to his headstone. He obviously earned very weird and awkward gazes from the other people who happened visiting their beloved ones but he didn’t mind even slightly, because at the end of the day he’s convinced, at least Gwiboon left not completely because him.
Another reason is because his professor sent him an email reminded him if he still desired to graduate by the next batch, he needs to submit 50% of the final material no later than the next week. Therefore, the reasonable part of Jinki strangled the overly sensitive and emotional self to the ground and chained him for their own good.
And of course the last part was only happened inside his head but who cares? He finally managed to control his adrenaline by eating one kilogram of avocado for each meal yesterday. Healthy or unhealthy, the people in his house could only judge. With the amount of obstinacy he owned, nobody’s able to change anything.
“Jinx, you got a package,” Taemin trespassed the door on ease knowing he’s currently having the upper hand in the house after seeing the effect of his tattle tale nature on Jinki, “Did you order something?”
“I ordered pork stew and some soondae two minutes ago but I don’t think it would come this fast and I’m pretty sure they came in different container.”
“Funny,” Taemin dropped the small brown box on his desk, “I went to the mailbox to check my shoes but I found it instead.”
“You do have some shoes fetish, don’t you?”
“So what can I do if Reebok just released its new classic edition? Sleeping soundly at night knowing thousands people out there sporting the goods while I can only dream about it? Do you want to see the world burnt? Hell no!”
Jinki’s taken aback with the sudden outburst he didn’t expect. Those shoes must cost him such fortune, he shrugged and reached the package.
“Who sent this?”
“How would I know?”
Jinki assessed the wrapper, it does have the stamp of the courier company, so it must be sent through mail. But oddly enough, they let this package passed with no name or address from the sender was written on it. And lately, he didn’t order anything besides food. Or taxi, when the other day Taemin was sneaky enough being an asshole by taking his car to go on a date.
“You brought anonymous package inside my room? How could you? Don’t go anywhere until I opened it!”
Taemin wasn’t planning to go out soon anyway, but the shrieking voice released from Jinki’s mouth was insulting his pride enough.
“What? Did Mom finally rub you off too hard? You sounded exactly like her just now! And it was just a ridiculous package! Might be from your fans who finally found our address!”
“Might be a bomb as well! If this one exploded, I’m taking you with me!”
“Did you even hear yourself? Who do you think you are? President? Prince Harry? Bruno Mars?”
“Terrorism doesn’t own GPS nor common sense!”
“Neither do you!” he dropped himself to Jinki’s mattress after he couldn’t find any leftover of candies Jinki used to have here and there on his bookshelf, “Who knows it would be just fans gift like before? And who knows you don’t want it and I got to have that?”
Jinki finally realized the reason why his brother not leaving immediately after he dropped the good. It can’t be bad, this one went through the courier company scanning system, the worst he could get is a stupid prank from someone or like Taemin said, a gift from admirer.
“But I haven’t been on stage since God knows how long!”
“Jesus Christ, just open it for crying out loud! I’ll do it if you’re too scared!”
Taemin’s this close ripping Jinki’s pillow into two. Snickered lowly, he started peeling the wrapper only to find a fine maroon box with silver band tied it together. Once the content peeking through the opening Jinki made carefully, eruption of emotion burst under his skin.
Safely kept inside the box, all the Polaroid photos Gwiboon had been taking when they were together, she obsessed with Polaroid and could take three pictures at a time. The amount of love floating from the piles started to suffocate Jinki. They were happy, it’s started and ended in a disaster but they were happy.
He picked one where both of them doing stupid faces, it was in her studio where they spent the whole night working on their own deadlines. 3 AM, with the best companion ever, that’s how she wrote below.
‘When Jinki being an architect’
‘I had enough for today’
‘Coffee time’
‘Look at meeee’
‘He said I’m cute in this one’
‘The sweetest bunny’
‘Jinki’s number :)’
‘Can’t help but being sloth to him :P’
‘Winter Project’
‘He gives the best hug’
‘His baby carrot fingers :3’
‘How the sun looks when he’s sleepy’
‘Mine <3’
She left her message in almost every picture. And the last one nearly breaks the guard on his eyes. Mine, he brushes her cute hand writings, bitter smile adorned his gloomy face promptly. It was him, lips all red pursing like baby penguin, looks like he was arguing something and she didn’t miss the chance to frame his upset state.
He doesn’t know her whereabouts, phone calls and texts he sent only reciprocated by the provider service messages telling him the number had been deactivated. Yet now, he received the only traces left of her, returned back to him, as if she tried getting rid the last footprints of him that she possessed. It’s saddening.
Jinki continued digging the pictures, grimace, smirk, smile, and frowns appeared one to another, enlightened Taemin – who kept his brother in check by the corner of his eyes – that it was some important package. One Polaroid however was purposely been stuck to the bottom of the box.
Gwiboon was smiling, so bright, angelic and mesmerizing, with Jinki glued to her side, nuzzling her cheek, grin splitting on his half face printed on it, so evident it hurts.
‘98258’
It stunned him immediately. Still in daze, the sound of Gwiboon’s voice mocking him and his fixation on oldie stuff is echoing so loud inside his head. That’s started with simple conversation of current fashion trend which brought back the vibe from 90s. One thing led to another, both of them spent the rest of the night in front of Jinki’s laptop checking how the youngster using beeper to send each other message back then. He was so excited when they found this website full of silly quizzes where you need to encrypt the hidden message behind those series of number.  And of course Gwiboon was annoyed because most of the time, it was Jinki who’s able to guess it correctly.
Even now.
“Taem.”
“Hmm?” he tried to act as nonchalant as possible but his ears perked so bad, desperately want to know what his brother is going to say.
“How do you know you love someone?”
He cocked his head to the side, just to found Jinki looking forlornly to the small box, “How do I know I love someone?”
“Did I ask the wrong person?” Jinki let out dry chuckle to ease Taemin.
“Ha. You may say so,” Taemin puffed the sides of the pillow under his head, “This may sound so pretentious and would make you cringed at some point, but I guess, nobody knows, Jinx. It’s not weather that you could forecast, not something that obvious as if you look at your window and be like crap-it’s-raining-outside. It’s just… happened. Some are lucky enough to be more aware than the other. Some are just too oblivious until the end, until they had the urge to invent the impossible time machine.”
“And some are just too dumb and chicken out when they realized they’re in love.”
“Were you in love?”
Jinki’s eyes fluttered close to the question, “I am.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”
Silence fell once again between the two. Taemin’s digesting still all the unexpected confession he just heard while Jinki now stared blankly to the pile of Polaroid spread over the surface of his desk. Recollection brewed inside his head, somehow he’s quite proud, half awe-struck half regretted, how they managed to have this much memory in a very limited time. Indeed, time is just a concept, it’s all relative up to the point you desperately need to stretch one slice of its epoch.
“Sorry, I was disappointing with my stupid try-to-be-poetic answer. Never been in love before, never expected I’d be, but one thing I can say to you because you’re my brother and even though we’re not twins we have this scary gene connection which is too similar and I bet twins would questioning themselves once they acknowledge this, if you found yourself relating random tiny detail to certain someone, you might as well go for it, then.”
“Is that what happened with you?” Jinki timidly asked, afraid that Taemin could proof further how he missed his chance by assuming he knew what’s the best for him and Gwiboon for these past months.
“Do you realize that the color of your wood structure is exactly the same color of Junghee’s eyes under the sun? Of course you don’t. So, yeah, more or less, that’s what happened with me.”
His eyes locked to one of the photo. Gwiboon was smiling on it, hair pulled up into his favorite messy bun, one shoulder exposed to the sun flares seeping through his window and touched the glowing skin on it. She looked so serene, the most beautiful he had ever seen, because in this one, he could see the genuine Gwiboon under those rumors, those pointed fingers, those make ups, pretty clothing, cynical comments and cold surfaces she put as masks. She’s the Gwiboon who he fell for.
And his heart clenched for he still vividly recalled how he convinced Gwiboon to let him took that picture of her the minute she opened her eyes, the girl finally gave up after he threatened her he would withheld her favorite shower sex. Worked like magic back then.
And worked like poison now once he realized it’s simply a painful memory left he held tight.
“Can you do me a last favor?”
“Sounds erotic,” he yawned and ready to slither inside Jinki’s comforter, “Both of us knew very well it won’t be the last, but yeah, shoot it.”
***
The house is painted dusted blue, huge window pane by the right far covered with light grey curtain from the inside, preventing people to peek on what’s behind the glass. The porch is not that big, but enough to accommodate couple of wooden chair with small concrete table. There’s no vehicle present in the carport, only an old skateboard leaned to the white wall separating the house with the neighbor.
Jinki nervously double check his phone, reciting the address written on the screen to himself, then make sure the number there is the same with the one placed on the wall.
He has never been here before, clearly. He licks his dry lips for the nth time this morning and glanced to his watch. Ten minutes late. Damn you bridge construction, he mumbled. He’s debating whether he should make a call or just go press the ring bell.
At the end, after another minute delaying himself like a sweaty anxious provincial exam taker, he opted to the second one. Vaguely, he heard someone’s approaching, and the door in front of him swung open inside. A familiar face greeted him with small nod and smile.
“Took you longer than I expected.”
“Well, need some time to make a peace with everything, I guess? I asked your number to Taemin just yesterday.”
“Come on in, then.”
“Thanks, Minho.”

cross-posted on my AFF couple weeks ago :)
This one is purposely written to center on Jinki, and the universe rolling around him. I am excited but also quite sad that the next chapter will be the last one. Thank you for reading and following this story. Hopefully, you like this chapter and the upcoming one as well! As usual, I only wish for your happiness wherever you are! Comments are always welcome! P.S.: do you know what’s the beeper message mean? Let me know if you can guess! :P

Bringing you that quality Nart content I know you’re all craving so here’s the characters with blogs (circa ep 120 of Shippuden)
Naruto: constantly posting updates on his life, like every five minutes. Hang on Sakura just gotta post about how I’m about to beat up this bad guy before I join you in beating up this bad guy. Leaves a shadow clone behind to liveblog his battles. At the cutting edge of the meme community.
Sakura: nature photos, many of which she takes herself on missions. And professional sports, the more contact the better. You know she’s a hardcore boxing and roller derby enthusiast. Liveblogs matches for her loyal followers. Cryptic posts implying she’s secretly super in love with Ino because of course she is.
Sasuke: black and white angsty shit, probably titled welcome to my twisted mind. Pretentious movie critic.
Sai: art blog of his own stuff. Likes and reblogs every single thing Naruto and Sakura post. Constant updates on his struggle to Understand People. Occasionally lands himself in hot water for committing flagrant tumblr faux pas.
Yamato: just a good wholesome tree blog for a good wholesome guy.
Kakashi: secretly a wildly popular funnyman. Also secretly runs the number one Makeout Paradise fan blog.
Lee: nothing but inspirational images and updates on his life. Small but very loyal fanbase. Reblogs every single post Guy makes.
Neji: posts once in a blue moon with single sentence philosophy quotes. Also a pretentious movie critic. Once got into a big blog fight about Fight Club with Sasuke. Neji did not know it was Sasuke and Sasuke did not know it was Neji. But Naruto knew. He made sure to make a meme out of the fight. Quotes from both of them are now popular copypastas thanks to him.
Ten Ten: personal blog solely to vent about Lee, Neji, and Guy. Unfortunately, very funny dry wit so her personal posts always get passed around out of context.
Guy: lots and lots and lots of workout videos, sometimes with Lee. Reblogs every single post Lee makes.
Kiba: popular dog blog. Akamaru became a vine star because of him. Now mostly on youtube with more quality Akamaru content, but also very popular on tumblr where he posts his videos and bonus stuff. Has a not so secret furry side-blog.
Shino: artsy bug pictures and occasional updates on how his bugs are doing, but doesn’t post a huge amount.
Hinata: secretly a very popular, vocal fandom blog. She is revered by her many followers as being so cool and accessible because she is Much Better At Online Communication.
Kurenai: botany blog, big fan of Sakura’s content.
Ino: also nature stuff, especially flowers. Slightly questionable fashion advice. In a public rivalry with Sakura. Cryptic posts implying she’s secretly super in love with Sakura because of course she is.
Choji: popular food blog, including recipes, photos, and hilarious reviews of every single meal he eats. Every. Single. One.
Shikamaru: Also secretly a popular funnyman, though more cryptic ironic shitposty stuff than Kakashi. Probably the admin of the Woody Collective.
Asuma: Runs a similar blog to Shikamaru and the two play off each other a lot. Most of their best content involves their interactions.
Jiraiya: the most infamous and popular funnyman of them all. No one is quite sure whether or not he’s the famous author of Makeout Paradise, but they have their suspicions. Slightly uncomfortable amount of nsfw.
Tsunade: Shizune runs all of her official Hokage social media accounts, but also has a secret personal blog with similar content to Sakura. Sakura is the only one who knows it’s her. Very active on twitter. Kind of a similar situation to a certain twitter-obsessed president, but not shitty because she is not a shitty person. But she causes Shizune about as much grief as said president probably causes his staff.
Shizune: spends her life 24/7 trying to keep Tsunade out of trouble via the official Hokage accounts. Has a personal blog for venting and talking about anything other than her job in her fleeting moments off.
Orochimaru: Kabuto ran an account in his name, and made one (1) post before Orochimaru discovered it and made Kabuto deactivate it.
Kabuto: gross brony and fetish shit. Belongs in the Woody Collective.
Gaara: Kankuro forced him to make official Kasekage accounts post-kidnapping. Doesn’t really Get social media yet, so Konkuro pretty much runs it.
Kankuro: runs Gaara’s media presence adeptly, as well as an artsy puppet blog, a shitposty puppet blog, and a muppets fan blog.
Temari: official Outspoken Tumblr Mom, gets into fights constantly. Does not hold back.

Stupid Love
Tumblr media
Simon Dominic's POV
"Why is this elevator so fuckin slow?!" I muttered to myself, more like cursing. I was inside the elevator, going to Sunghwa's apartment. After few seconds leaning lazily on the elevator wall, finally the elevator dinged and opened. I sighed in relief, walking out from elevator then suddenly my eyes caught on something interesting.
There was young lady with black hair off to her shoulder walked to my direction, she was really pretty, her pointy nose, pale skin and small pouting lips which made her more attractive on my eyes.
Geez, I couldn't stop ogling at her but I needed to stop. It was kind of rude and impolite to look at opposite sex with daring eyes, I won't be caught and accused as pervert. So I looked down, watching my own steps when she passed by me.
Who is she?          Her sweet fragrance could be smelled, I was sure it was kind of gum fragrance, so sweet and geez— I needed to check her again. I stopped and turned my head to see her but that damn elevator already closed, bringing her away from my sight.
Great Kiseok, you just lost a chance to say hi to her! I sighed in annoyance, accepting the reality then walked to Sunghwa's door.
"Sunghwa-ssi~" I called him through the intercom while I brutally pressed his doorbell. Sunghwa's apartment was my second home, literally and practically. Because whenever I feel lonely and bored I will gladly and unashamedly crashed at his place, as long as he didn't have girlfriend. Because it would be awkward when I crashed there and his girlfriend was around, it happened once and as predicted it was very very awkward situation.
I heard a click sound from the door, Sunghwa noticed me and automatically opened the door. But it wasn't me if I didn't mess around, so I kept ringing his bell until I heard he groaned.
"Hyunggggg, stop that!" He whined, yes everyone. Sunghwa was secretly a cute guy, he won't scold me since I was older than him. I guessed that was my privilege for being oldest, pranking my little brothers was fun, especially Sunghwa and Hyukwoo.
I smirked at him, "Are you in the middle of making out?" I passed him paper bags of McDonald's burger and fries then entered his place.
"With whom?" He scowled and I really wanted to smack his precious nose at that time.
"With your right hand and tissues?" I chuckled, teasing him.
          "Disgusting-"
   Gray's POV
I couldn't stop munching this damn delicious chicken nuggets for almost thirty minutes, Kiseok hyung was the best when it comes to bribe me. Today he said he wants to crash on my place since recently he felt lonely. That old man needed someone to talk to and I was nice enough to let him be here.
"Sunghwa, can you stop eating?" He glared at me who busy stuffing my mouth with nuggets and fries.
I stopped munching even though my mouth still full with the food, raising my eyebrows to let him say what he needs.
"I'm thinking to have vacation." He leaned back at my black couch with his eyes glued at his phone.
"Whtuudjfudgere?" I was struggling to talk while my mouth full with food.
"Do you want me to help you shove that food?"  He didn't even look at me but his voice sound scary, I quickly munched my beautiful nuggets and swallowed them before Kiseok hyung helped me. I was sure I won't really like his help, I swear.
I quickly munched my nugget and swallowed it one go, "where do you want to go, hyung?"
He sighed in heavy tone before he answered, "I don't know, I'm just bored. I need something new."
"Maybe you need a new girlfriend? You kinda lonely these day, hyung. You're getting old.." I nonchalantly stated, he had been single and sleeping around lately. No one of his one night stands ended successfully as long lasting relationship, he was practically hooked and fucked, that's it, no girlfriend and just fling. He was man with needs after all and I can't blame him, beside.. cough cough, I actually did the same.
Kiseok hyung dropped his phone on the couch and clapped his hand in excitement, making me look at him weirdly. "shit! speaking about girlfriend, I just met a beautiful girl earlier but damn— I didn't have a chance to talk to her, she's beautiful and I'm worried I might make her scared if I made move to her."
Heol— love at the first sight? Hell nah, it must be lust at the first sight. He's Simon Dominic for God's sake! I scoffed inwardly.
"It's quite odd if you didn't ask her number, hyung. I mean, you always get girls' number after all." I reached for another paper bag full of nuggets but he quickly grabbed them and secured my precious babies nuggets on his side. Damn, this old man—
"I swear I never met a girl like her before!" he said in dreamy expression, which was stupid and ridiculous to watch.
“Who is she? You got her picture?”
“Unfortunately no, I was too busy secretly staring at her. Damn—” he hissed in annoyance and I started to wonder how attractive she was until Kiseok hyung admiring her like that.
         “Geez..”
If he got whipped by that girl, I'm sure this whole beautiful and peaceful world would be doomed. And whoever the girl, I feel really sorry for her.
   Gray's POV
"Sunghwa, where's your girlfriend?" My aunt asked me as soon as she saw me, this is why I don't like family gathering. Your not so close family would bother you with unnecessary questions, such a girlfriend, love life and stuff while my parents were okay with how I live my life.
I was holding myself to not rolling my eyes at her, or else I would be labeled as a bad nephew. In this Christmas family celebration I wanted to hold my image as awesome guy, I needed to behave for few hours at least.
"That's really annoying question mom, stop bothering Sunghwa oppa." Here my cousin, Lee Youngji came for the rescue.
She was right, my amazing girlfriend was currently at the future. Which was mean I still have time to flirt and sleep around, enjoying my bachelor life before she come and drag me to the aisle.
"Both of you are hopeless, go find girlfriend and boyfriend. Give me grandkid, okay?" My aunt babbled and Youngji rolled her eyes beside me.
"She always like that, I'm still young though." She pouted and I chuckled.
"Why are you single? That's not how you used to be." I rarely found Youngji being single, whenever our family gathering she usually brought her boyfriend. But this time, she brought no one.
"Broke up because he doesn't want to have serious commitment." She sighed. I remembered she planned to tie knot sooner with that guy, well.. that shit must be really stupid for breaking up with my cousin.
"Jerk." I added, wondering who that stupid and ugly guy. How dare he play with my cousin like that.
         "Yeah, boys are stupid."
"Indeed. I'm a man, so I'm not stupid." I nodded in satisfaction, feeling proud of myself.
"But your dick literally flying around." She scowled and I choked hearing that.
        "What the—"
"Seriously oppa, you really need to stop sharing your banana to stupid monkeys out there."
  Simon's POV
I sighed in bored tone, staring at my phone. There were so many messages on my instagram, twitter, and snapchat. My precious fans were wishing me a merry christmas, I felt thankful and blessed because they're caring and loyal to me. But there was hole inside me which needed to be filled but I didn't know how to.
I opened my inbox and scrolled at the multiple sender, mostly from the girls, some of them are celebrity or idol and the rest are I actually didn't really know who they are, probably the girls that i met at the club or my one night stand partners. This year little bit different, no one of AOMG’s artist worked in Christmas. Jay was currently at the Seattle, Sunghwa went to Japan with his family while the rest were stayed in Korea, celebrating Christmas with their family, just like me.
           Just then my phone buzzed, there was kakao chat from Sunghwa. He sent a picture of chocolate cheese cake, purposely sent it because he knew how I love chocolate cheese cake. Then in seconds later, he sent another message;
Sunghwazzing : merry christmas hyung! Me : you too. Sunghwazzing : how's your christmas? Me : good, my mom wants her daughter in law ASAP.
Which was true, because whenever she had chance she would bother you with her  where-is-your-girl-friend question, until-when-you-will-be-playboy or I-really-want-another-grandchild-so-you-better-get-married-sooner.
Sunghwazzing : ㅋㅋㅋ Me : girls are stupid. Sunghwazzing : cheer up hyung! I will help you to meet a girl who isn't stupid. Me : who? Is she sexy?
There was no reply from Sunghwa, I guess he was busy? I shrugged and back to eat my corn chips, watching my nephew who busy playing with his car toys, mimicking car’s voice. I smiled as I saw how adorable my nephew was, at the same time I was also wondering how my son or my daughter would be? My brother was already married five years ago, he such a devoted husband and dad for his family which was I found it stupid. He married in young age, I thought he would regret for marrying in young age but that actually never happened. That bastard always look happy and now days I found myself jealous to him.
Should I get married? Do I really need to settle down and be a cool dad? I shook my head and chuckled, cursing myself for being a stupid. Marriage wasn’t simple for me, never. It was something sacred, when you said your vow wedding, you were not only promise to your wife, you promise to God, to stay faithful whatever happen in your marriage. And for now, I wasn’t ready at all.
I took quite much chips and shoved them into my mouth, chewing slowly as I back to my phone. I found Sunghwa already sent his reply, he sent a picture which made me rolled my eyes, it must be picture of food again. I opened his message and waited for the picture until it’s done loading, but when the picture showed I choked really hard, my tears rolled down as I felt the chips pricking my throat and I couldn’t swallow them. Damn fucking hurts—
I put my phone on the couch and struggled tapping my nape in order to get rid the hurting chips, once the chips could be swallowed, I took my phone again and stared it in horror.
How could?          Is that really true when people says world is so small?
         I blinked again before convincing myself that my very own eyes were in good condition and they didn’t trick me, it was her. It was the picture of that beautiful girl whom I met few days ago at Sunghwa’s apartment building. Where did he find this girl? I gulped as I read Sunghwa’s message;
she’s my cousin, beautiful isn’t she? ㅋㅋㅋ
Guys, I try new POV to make it fresh, how do you think?

booksilog answered: Everything Begins and Ends at the Kentucky Club by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, and Prince of Cats by Ron Wimberly
books-and-branches: I just finished The Possessions last night by Sarah Flannery Murphy, it was super good! I’m still working through The Hag Seed by Margaret Atwood (not far in but I love everything she does), Fire Bringer by David Clement-Davies (about semi-anthropomorphized deer with their own mythology), and here and there I read a short story in Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Unreal and the Real collection.
reviewthisbook answered: Girls in the Moon by Janet McNally
thesecretsthewriterkeeps: I just finished Eve: The Awakening by Jenna Moreci, and I’m not sure what I’m going to read next. It could be Heartless by Marissa Meyer, or it could be Ice Crypt by Tiana Warner - those are the two most likely candidates from my rather long to-read list, anyway :P
feuerx: Robin Hobb’s Tawny Man trilogy book two, Fool’s Whateveritwas. She writes rather nice fantasy with a lot of canines, felines in this trilogy, horses and dragons. There are assassins too, but I haven’t yet decided of that aspect works really well or lousily. The only really bad aspect is that the way books are named is rather unmemorable
problemsofabookaddict: I just started reading the girls by Emma Klein and it is really good!
runaway-grey: Just finished Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff and started The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter.
pharmacistfangirl: Yesterday I finished the English edition of Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (I’m still working through the Spanish Edition). I’m also reading Margot Adler’s Drawing Down the Moon and William Sitwell’s A History of Food in 100 Recipes, and I plan to pick up another fiction book in the next week or so. Maybe from my huge stack of untouched Kindle First books.
roxyreadsandeats: I often read more than one book at a time, so I’m currently reading Nadine Gordimer’s Selected Stories, Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s the idiot and The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
crazy4fiction: I’m currently reading ‘Replica’ by Lauren Oliver. :)
thenerdherdreads answered: The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon & Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

Goblin: The Lonely and Great God- Episodes 11-13 Recap: Embrace the Emotions
Logan: Hello, Chingus! The end of Goblin is unfortunately near, but before the series end take some time to catch up on Episodes 11-13 with June, Tiara, and I and talk tears, laughter, and everything in between. We’ll be wrapping up Goblin and then as you may have seen we’ll be coming to you with our next project very soon- A new take on Drama Clubs by Reliving the Drama of Boys over Flowers. We’re very excited and we’ll hope you’ll rewatch it with us and see if it holds up to time. But without further ado, let’s talk Goblin.
Tumblr media
Logan: So Goblin may have started some of us on a complete mental and emotional breakdown this week. But before we get into the super intensely sad moments, let’s not forget we had some touching moments as well. Everyone’s memories are coming back of their past lives starting with Sunny to the Grim Reaper to the other, less evil than Joong Heon, but still evil reaper. It was shocking for us to learn some of the stuff we did these last couple of weeks so it must have been even more shocking for our poor characters.
Tiara: For sure. Sunny has to be thinking, before her memories returned, everyone is super crazy. But I guess evening with her past memories it can’t be easy to accept and not get things mixed up. I loved Shin bring Sunny all her favorites, a little outdated, but it’s the thought that counts right?
June: A complete mental and emotional breakdown is an understatement. I feel like I have to mentally prepare myself every week when I watch this drama, especially lately. The little part with him bringing her favorites was adorable.
Tumblr media
Logan: I was surprised that he did that. After he talked about how she wouldn’t remember, he seemed surprised that she actually couldn’t. He probably just hoped so much that she would be an exception. Luckily, thanks to the Grim Reaper’s sexy kiss she did get her memories back. Well, not so lucky for her I guess. But hey, not a bad way to get a flashback, huh? I might be willing to relive some of my bad memories if I got to kiss Lee Dong Wook in the process.
Tiara: Logan, I think we all would volunteer no matter the type of kiss ^-* The magic of kissing in dramaland. If only the two participants would do more than just press lips together because I know Lee Dong Wook can kiss. Moving on when Shin and Sunny did get their reunion, I just wished these two could have a second chance at being brother and sister. My heart strings are just being pulled and I swear I need to stock up on tissues before this coming week.
June: Haha wouldn’t we all want to be able to kiss Lee Dong Wook! It’s like a K-drama fan’s dream. I agree with you Tiara! I wish we would see more of the siblings interact and have a second chance. I mean there has to be a reason why they were reunited again and really I just want to see them bond again.
Tumblr media
Logan: Haha. I mean, it’s true. Lee Dong Wook’s charms are irresistible. I can’t imagine this drama without him. It would be really nice to see a nice heart to heart with Shin and Sunny and for them to have some time to bond and just hang out again. I completely agree, Tiara. As sad as this week’s episode yet, I have this ominous feeling that we’ve just seen the tip of the devastation iceberg. I mean, we’re only on Episode 13. A lot of bad stuff could still happen.
Tiara: NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOO!!! Can’t I go without one week of crying? It can be a happy moment and I end up with tears. Grandma Sam Shin coming to Eun Tak’s graduation day was a surprise but a perfect choice. Granny worked hard to make sure Eun Tak could live and to be there in place of her mom. See tears … However, I loved the moment when Granny told Eun Tak’s teacher she could have been a better teacher. One thing about this drama is people get some pretty good punishment for the wrongs they have done.
June: Honestly, after watching all these episodes, it’s like every moment “I’m like TT, Just like TT”. Ha I just had to throw that in there but seriously, I’ve been so emotional watching this drama! I love Red Granny, I just have to say, especially because she was really always there for Eun Tak.
Tumblr media
Logan: Haha, that’s the perfect catchphrase, June. Oh my gosh, I forgot that we haven’t talking about Red Granny showing up at Eun Tak’s graduation. Ugh, that was the scene in this drama that really had me sobbing more than anything else so far- but they were happy tears. Whatever type of deity/god Red Granny is, she really cares about her humans and it’s truly touching. One spirit that showed up that was not quite so caring was Joong Heon. I glazed over it before but I was actually frightened when he showed up. I wanted to leave the room he was so creepy.
Tiara: Granny is Sam Shin - the goddess of birth and fate. This is why she calls everyone her children or speaks about creating them. Eunuch Park showing up was a nice plot twist, but dude why isn’t Eun Tak running or blowing out fire whenever he is around? He doesn’t look right nor is he like Casper the friendly ghost. Really where’s the ghostbusters when you need them because evening Shin was having some issues figuring out how to stop Eunuch Park.
June: LOL CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST. For real though, if that ghost popped up in my life, I would be lighting something on fire in a heartbeat.
Tumblr media
Logan: Yeah, he is bad news. Just the fact that his fingers and lips and tongue are all purple-that’s not a good sign. Him showing up was an omen for evil coming after our beloved characters. Good news, he’s gone but the cost was harsh. It was interesting how both Shin and Eun Tak both fought to be the one to sacrifice themselves. In the end Shin played a little dirty by manipulating Eun Tak’s hands after she passed out, but he probably did the right thing. He knew it was supposed to be him.
Tiara: I am glad Shin was the one to chose to pull the sword. Since everything started with the sword, it’s not surprising it will be the thing to defeat Eunuch Park. Shin was finally able to kill the evil for his King. Bonus, how awesome was it to see Grim Reaper just shout out Park Joong Heon’s name to save Eun Tak. Shin finally got to announce to Wang Yeo his warrior had finally died his heroic death. Dude … the tears on Grim Reaper just about killed me. More so since Wang Yeo thought he died without anyone loving him, but he learns the bitter truth he was truly loved by his brother, his wife, and his brother-in-law. If only that young King couldn’t have been so blinded, he could see the ones who loved him.
June: Man that was so hard to watch. It was like he was finally realizing something he should have all those year ago. But I agree having Shin finally kill that evil man was so satisfying.
Tumblr media
Logan: Heartbreak aside, everything about that final scene was EPIC. Well, I suppose even the heartbreak was epic too. Grim Reaper was so intense when he called Joong Heon out and Shin was equally intense. But the cherry on top of this Epicness sundae was Eun Tak’s reaction. Kim Go Eun impressed me so much with her acting. It almost felt like the actor himself had died in real life, her reaction was so realistic. Then as the perfect finale his body turns to embers and floats away into the wind. I mean, WOW! It was insane.
Tiara: It was a pretty scene once I was able to see it through my tears. Theme of this post is definitely tears … anyhoo it’s a fitting end for our Goblin, but does leave us without a Goblin and three more episodes. I do believe our Butterfly God might be making an appearance again. I do wonder if he plans on possessing Deok Hwa’s body again to deliver another cryptic message or just allow everyone to suffer.
June: Tears everywhere to be honest. But I agree, we still have some episodes left and it’s like where are they going to take this now. I know for some reason, this won’t be the last of him.
Tumblr media
Logan: That was pretty crazy how he had been possessing Deok Hwa this whole time. Kudos to you all who caught onto his extra worldliness. I was relieved to see that he was only possessing Deok Hwa thought rather than had been him all along because I didn’t want to lose Deok Hwa.  I liked what Butterfly God said about them making their own choices and him getting kind of annoyed that they blame him for everything yet they make so many bad decisions.
Tiara: The answers are for them to find out while God asks the questions. I’m sorry but it’s still cryptic. Throw us a bone for crying out loud. Deok Hwa has grown up a lot in these few episodes. With Grandpa’s death, he’s finally learned the reality of being the a brother, father, and grandfather to Shin and is able to accept the position. Speaking of hints, Grandpa’s letter to President Kim (formerly Secretary) about giving all of Grandpa’s possession to a man name Kim Shin. Doesn’t this mean the CEO Eun Tak is going to meet in the future is him?
June: I feel like that’s the direction it is for sure heading.
Tumblr media
Logan: It seems pretty certain that the Goblin is the man Eun Tak is going to meet in Canada, but I didn’t think much about the will. I just assumed the Chairman wrote it either before or not knowing the Goblin had told President Kim about himself. But now that you point it out it, it makes sense. As I’ve said before nothing is a coincidence in Dramaland. Red Granny also hinted that good things were going to come to Deok Hwa. That makes me happy. He’s a really sweet soul and I want to see good things come to him.
Tiara: Speaking of sweet souls, Shin coming across an applicant for a Kim Woo Shik who just happens to be his Second-in Command. You know the man who vowed to follow Shin in death after stabbing Shin with the sword. I loved with President Kim told Woo Shik why he was giving him a job, a house, a car, and a name for his unborn son was because he saved a nation in a past life. It’s a phase dramaland loves to use, but darn it got me right in the feels. I kind of wanted more with his bestie from the past.
June: Me too!! I wish we had more of that in the drama!
Tumblr media
Logan: It’s totally an appropriate time to use the phrase, Tiara. So many happy feels. That’s the one thing- I think I’ve cried more happy tears in this drama altogether than I have sad ones. I mean Shin’s death was obviously hard, but there have been so many smaller, heart-warming moments that add up to a lot of warm and fuzzies for me.
Tiara: You’re right, Logan. Evening in our darkest hour, this drama can still make me laugh and then cry a few minutes later. Good and sad tears of course. I do wonder what will become of the Grim Reaper since he’s gotten in trouble for using his gifts. Considering the powers that be punished him with Wang Yeo’s memories, will he be given a second chance like possibility Shin. Or will he be forever punished to walk the earth ushering souls to Heaven or rebirth? Fingers cross for a second chance. I think Sunny and Yeo should be able to love without politics getting in the way. Heck, I just want them to be able to go on a date before breaking up.
Logan: They’ve already broken up so many times, that so help me if the writer/producers bring them back together only to break them up one more time I’m going to write them a very strongly worded letters with some very unladylike language. Sunny and Yeo need to get married and have babies. I don’t even care if they’re little half grim reaper babies who go around collecting people’s souls. As long as they’re together. Lol.
Tumblr media
Logan: I hope everyone’s geared up for an emotional last few episodes. Have you box of tissues ready, I know I will. Thanks for joining us and we’ll see you again soon!

• A good friend of mine took me out and had me hit off a tee. He made me understand what was my strike zone and – with my speed – the importance of making contact. So I give him a lot of credit for changing my game and making me the player I became. He showed me how to work on me and my game, and not worry about patterning myself after someone else and focusing on what they were capable of doing rather than what I was capable of doing. – Rickey Henderson • A straight factor is important in any comedy, because you need something to tee it up and also to ground it. – Jason Bateman • Aggression is part of the masculine design, we are hardwired for it…. Little girls do not invent games where large numbers of people die, where bloodshed is a prerequisite for having fun. Hockey, for example, was not a feminine creation. Nor was boxing. A boy wants to attack something – and so does a man, even if it’s only a little white ball on a tee. – John Eldredge • Also, of course, I need my Dove soap. Of course I need my cocoa butter. I need my Listerine. I need the white Jockey tees. They are really soft and comfortable. – DJ Khaled • And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like “Poo-tee-weet? – Kurt Vonnegut • Are you all right?” “Oh my god! I phased!” “Are you all right?” “Are you?” “It was strange.” “I can’t believe I phased just then! That’s never…it was totally your fault.” “I like to think so, yes.” “Tee hee. – Joss Whedon • At home, a T-shirt and something loose like harem pants would do. If I’m stepping out, a pair of blue jeans and a white tee are just fine. – Genelia D’Souza

Unfortunately, it’s off the tee. – Jimmy Demaret • But just like I’ve always said when people complain about tee times, ‘I just want a tee time. Just give me one so I can play. – David Duval • But the bottom line is, no matter what, even if I shoot 90 tomorrow, I’m going to enjoy it. Maybe people will say “Oh, he blew it” or whatever. Maybe I’m going to blow it, it’s the first time I’ve ever been there. What do you expect? You know I’m not number one in the world. My knees are going to touch each other on the first tee tomorrow. But let me tell you, I’m going to enjoy it. – Jean van de Velde • Control is the main thing, and the tee shot is the most important shot in golf. You’ve got to hit the fairway before you have a good chance of putting the ball close to the pin. You can be the greatest iron player in the world, but if you’re in the boondocks it won’t do you any good. – Ben Hogan • Courses that you’ve had success on, all of a sudden your game turns around because you feel comfortable on your tee shots, you feel comfortable going to the greens, you know, all the reads on the putts. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe, but it’s certainly one that you get filled up with confidence more than anything else. – Tiger Woods • Edward Abbey said you must brew your own beer; kick in you Tee Vee; kill your own beef; build your cabin and piss off the front porch whenever you bloody well feel like it. I already had a good start. As a teenager in rural Maine, after we came to America, I had learned hunting, fishing, and trapping in the wilderness. My Maine mentors had long ago taught me to make home brew. I owned a rifle, and I’d already built a log cabin. The rest should be easy. I thought I’d give it a shot. – Bernd Heinrich • Elmcrest CC, in Cedar Rapids, is where it all started when I was growing up. The tree-lined course has a very demanding layout that requires you to be accurate off the tee and avoid a number of well-placed water hazards on some of the holes. – Zach Johnson • Every golfer can expect to have four bad shots in a round and when you do, just put them out of your mind. This, of course is hard to do when you’ve had them and you’re not even off the first tee. – Walter Hagen • Every golfer should come to the first tee with fourteen clubs, a dozen balls, a handful of tees, and at least one great golf story – Lee Trevino • Everything was fine until I walked on to the first tee! – Seve Ballesteros • Fighting is like life. You can do everything to a tee. You can show up and fail. That’s no reason to quit. – Frank Mir • Foursomes have left the first tee there and have never been seen again. They just find their shoelaces and bags. – Bob Hope • Get a good jean, a good tee, a good whatever because you can just switch that stuff up and you have like 8,000 different outfits with a few things. – Zendaya • Golf is a stupid game. You tee up this little ball, really this tiny ball. Then you hit it, try to find it, hit it. And the goal is to get it into a little hole placed in a hard spot. – Juli Inkster • Has anyone ever won an argument with you? (Syd) Just Tee, and I was drunk and wounded at the time. (Joe) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • He [Daniel Craig] is mysterious, and I think that that’s the thing Bond has to exude, that kind of mysterious edge. He draws you in, but he is also incredibly cool, you know, James Bond is cool and sharp and Daniel has that to a tee, and he’s also got the rawness and an edginess to him that is slightly unhinged, and you’re not sure what is going on there, and I think that is really intriguing and interesting. It is a lot weightier and gritty, and he has that. – Gemma Arterton • He’s wearing boots, a kilt, and a long-sleeve tee. No coat, even though it’s December. Beautiful people don’t need coats. They’ve got their auras to keep them warm. – Jennifer Donnelly • Hole in One: an occurence in which a ball is hit directly from the tee into the hole in a single shot by a golfer playing alone. – Henry Beard • How to Overthrow the System: brew your own beer; kick in your Tee Vee; kill your own beef; build your own cabin and piss off the front porch whenever you bloody well feel like it. – Edward Abbey • I also taught myself how to blow glass using a propane torch from the hardware store and managed to make some elementary chemistry plumbing such as tees and small glass bulbs. – Robert B. Laughlin • I am always looking for a cool tee shirt; maybe one with a rock band or an old advertisement. – Bridget Hall • I call my putter ‘Sweet Charity’ because it covers such a multitude of sins from tee to green. – Gardner Dickinson • I can wear a suit, sweatpants, a long tee shirt, and a denim jacket all at the same time. – Tinie Tempah • I could get you to smile like that, and without sales tax.” I whirled around to find the real Patch standing in the fitting room behind me. He was wearing jeans and a snug white tee. His arms were folded loosely over his chest, and his black eyes smiled down at me. Heat that wasn’t entirely uncomfortable flushed through my body. “I could make all kinds of pervert jokes right now,” I quipped. – Becca Fitzpatrick • I do know how to operate a computer. (Joe) Yeah, right. What was it you said just ten minutes ago? Get this damned thing off my desk before I shoot it? Now make the call, Mr. Hunt-and-Peck. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • I don’t feel like I’m out of my element or anything like that. I’m very comfortable where I’m at. I enjoy being in this position, and actually it feels like I haven’t really been away from it. I feel very comfortable out there from the first tee onwards. – Aaron Baddeley • I don’t think the philosophy really changes between men and women. I think golf courses need to become more distance-friendly overall. I think golf courses almost need to develop a more generic set of tees instead of calling them black, blue, red or whatever. – Amy Alcott • I go to the first tee scared to death every day. The peaks do not seem to last as long as the valleys in this game. – J. C. Snead • I got so strong I felt like a giant…..When I stood on the tee with Arnold and Jack, I was tiny compared to them. But I never believed they were bigger than me. So the mind is so fascinating. – Gary Player • I had held a notion that I could make a pretty fair appraisal of the worth of an opponent simply by speaking to him on the first tee and taking a good measuring look into his eyes. – Bobby Jones • I had to lull Mom and Hank into believing I was in the right frame of mind to be taken into public. If I exited my bedroom foaming at the mouth and dressed in black LOVE SUCKS tee, my plan would never get off the ground. – Becca Fitzpatrick • I have a really simple wardrobe. I wear a low-scoop tee every day with a tux or leather jacket and tux pants or black jeans. That’s pretty much it. – Johan Lindeberg • I have really enjoyed every minute I have spent in golf- above all, the many wonderful friends I have made. I have loved playing the game and practicing it. Whether my schedule for the following day called for a tournament round or merely a trip to the practice tee, the prospect that there was going to be golf in it made me feel privileged and extremely happy, and I couldn’t wait for the sun to come up the next morning so that I could get out on the course again – Ben Hogan • I hurt my shoulder on the fifth tee – just hitting it too hard when you’re too old. – Ian Woosnam • I like What Goes Around Comes Around for old concert tees. Oh man, I got this ‘Sgt. Pepper’ cartoon Beatles shirt there; it was, like, $300. I didn’t even know how much it cost – I thought it was gonna be, like, $80 at most – till I got to the register and was like, ‘Oh mah gawd!’ Good Lord. But it’s classic vintage rock, you know? – Kid Cudi • I mistrust the term graphic novel because it sounds like a good thing to put on a tee-shirt. That’s why the French like them. – Terry Pratchett • I need to use the Dam Bathroom, I need to use the Dam Snack bar, I want a Dam Tee-Shirt. – Rick Riordan • I remember winning the first time, you know, suddenly everybody expects, well, okay, now he should win every time he tees it up, win six tournaments. – Retief Goosen • I still get butterflies on the first tee. I still get sweaty hands, and my heart pumps a lot going down the 18th. But I know what winning is all about now, and that’s a feeling that I like. – Annika Sorenstam • I think I can be competitive. Heck, anybody who can walk to the first tee here has a chance. – Fuzzy Zoeller • I think jeans have gotten away from the original meaning, that symbol of freedom; they’ve gone gimmicky and turned into a status item. Our denim is offered at lower price points for that reason. As far as the men’s clothing in the collection, it’s basically my wardrobe. I think men’s clothes should be grounded, strong and classic. I like simple: a blazer, jeans, a low cut tee and maybe a silk scarf. – Johan Lindeberg • I thoroughly enjoy working with kids, whether it’s The First Tee or the lesson tee with my grandkids. – Jack Nicklaus • I thought Denver and Seattle was a big game but Houston and Dallas is the kind of game that as players, we want to play in. I haven’t missed playing in the National Football League, but every year there are one or two games that makes me wish I could tee it up in that game one more time. – Sterling Sharpe • I wanted to feel good about the way I looked. I didn’t understand why style had to be sacrificed for sports technology. I found when going to the gym women were wearing their own tees, without the technology. I started to think, does it make you run faster if you wear that terrible color or sweat less if you wear that horrible fabric? And I challenged it, and the answers were not there to why we were being given poor design work. It was something I wanted to bring to women’s wardrobes. – Stella McCartney • I went through phases of odd hairstyles and tank top-over-tee outfits and stuff like that. – Jamie Lynn Sigler • I wouldn’t wear a tie-dyed tee-shirt unless it was dyed with the urine of Phil Collins and the blood of Jerry Garcia. – Kurt Cobain • If any guy threatened her she’d probably suffocate him with her oversized tee. – Simone Elkeles • If I’d been listening closely, I’d have caught the sound of the gods having a great big old tee-hee at my expense. – Sue Grafton • If I’m not going out, my go-to outfit is some comfortable pants, Vans, and a fitted tee. But if I’m going out, definitely some Diesel jeans, either some super cool boots or nice shoes, and then a button-up. – Sterling Beaumon • If it really made sense to “let the club do the work,” you’d just say, “Driver, wedge to the green, one-putt,” and walk to the next tee. – Tom Mulligan • If Jack Nicklaus had to play my tee shots, he couldn’t break 80. He’d be a pharmacist with a string of drugstores in Ohio. – Lee Trevino • If the rest of his foursome are bunched directly behind his ball, or assume the foetal position with their backs to the tee, the golfer is reminded that his drive tends to be erratic. More cruel yet is for his opponent to stand directly in the projected line of flight, as the safest place to be. – Eric Nicol • If there’s a golf course in heaven, I hope it’s like Augusta National. I just don’t want an early tee time. – Gary Player • I’m a big fan of pops of color, but I thought I would take that to the next level and do a color-blocked Rolex. This watch is the perfect accessory whether you’re wearing a tee and jeans or a well-tailored suit. – Brad Goreski • I’m focusing on quality versus quantity – a nicer tee-shirt with organic cotton and buying just one or two instead of five that are cheaper but made with GMO cotton, which is hard on Earth, sewn by slave labor, shipped all the way from China on boats that use lots of oil and can kill whales with ship strikes and sold by (some) companies that could treat their – Kristin Bauer van Straten • I’m much better off the tee. I’m not a great putter. I do not have a good short game. – Molly Sims • I’m not out there just to be dancing around. I expect to win every time I tee up. – Lee Trevino • I’m really going to do my homework. I’m going to be down there on the practice tee finding out if a guy’s wife beat him up the night before, important stuff like that. Stuff that people want to know. – Lee Trevino • It is so short and jumbled and jangled, Sam, because there is nothing intelligent to say about a massacre. Everybody is supposed to be dead, to never say anything or want anything ever again. Everything is supposed to be very quiet after a massacre, and it always is, except for the birds. And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like “Poo-tee-weet? – Kurt Vonnegut • It’s really hard to perfect one aspect of your kicking game when you’re spending some of your time kicking with a holder, some of your time kicking off a tee, and some of your time drop-kicking the ball. To be able to concentrate just on my punting responsibilities will do wonders for me. – Pat McAfee • I’ve always tried to play golf with a golf club. I have a hard time driving with my rifle. I mean, 18 is really narrow … I have no problem with the course, except for the tee shot on 18. – Jack Nicklaus • Just hopped off the plane came back from Vancouv Little white tee sum boobs & bamboo – Nicki Minaj • My back swing off the first tee had put him in mond of an eldery woman of dubious morals trying to struggle out of a dress too tight around the shoulders. – Patrick Campbell, 3rd Baron Glenavy • My essentials are skinny jeans, loose-fitting tees, big jumpers, and the leather jacket. Everything is black or blue – I don’t own anything colorful. – Jamie Campbell Bower • My golf score is really bad. I don’t know. I’m definitely not a good golfer. Off the tee box, I can drive it about 275, and I’m in the fairway about 99% of the time. It’s my next shot that needs work. – Jason Aldean • My sister Suga Tee is doing conscious rap. She speaks to the youth. She has an album coming out soon. She got saved but she is still doing her thing. She still spits good game. She’s talented. She sings. I don’t know if a lot of people know this but Suga Tee has a beautiful voice. So ya’ll look out for her album you dig? And look forward to a future Clique album. – E-40 • Never bet with anyone you meet on the first tee who has a deep suntan, a 1-iron in his bag, and squinty eyes. – Dave Marr • No matter what happens – never give up a hole….In tossing in your cards after a bad beginning you also undermine your whole game, because to quit between tee and green is more habit-forming than drinking a highball before breakfast. – Sam Snead • Not a mark on it. (Joe) Yeah. Wanna check the backseat, where Steele is sitting? I’ll bet there’s a big stain there. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Obviously a deer on the fairway has seen you tee off before and knows that the safest place to be when you play is right down the middle. – Jackie Gleason • On the first tee I kept telling myself, “Trust yourself, you can do it.”- Annika Sorenstam • Once I graduated from NYU, I started making custom vintage tees for my friends and it just took off from there. – Charlotte Ronson • One of the most fascinating things about golf is how it reflects the cycle of life. No matter what you shoot – the next day you have to go back to the first tee and begin all over again and make yourself into something. – Peter Jacobsen • Only because I’m not a morning person. (Joe) And you’re not a night person either. Face it, babe. You’ve only got two good minutes a day. The minute before noon and the minute right after. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Only three things them ladies talk about: they kids, they clothes, and they friends. I hear the word Kennedy, I know they ain’t discussing no politic. They talking about what Miss Jackie done wore on the tee-vee. – Kathryn Stockett • Ooo, he’s snotty. I like him already. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Part of wearing a tee is saying, ‘I’m comfortable and casual.’ – Ryan Seacrest • Patience is a virtue. (Tee) Excuse me, pot, could you not pick on the kettle? (Joe) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Reminiscing No one knows … until you live it, to be there, to tee it up each week, to get yourself ready, the players and whatever else…. I think its a very, very difficult, tough and demanding job. And to be able to, particularly, stay at the level of expertise that we have over the years. Along with the fact that we have made football a presence at BYU. I think those are the things that are about as satisfying as anything that has happened. Then, of course, the players…. I think the thing that will be the most difficult is leaving the relationships and the involvement. – LaVell Edwards • Sam Snead did to the tee-shot what Roger Bannister did to the four-minute mile. – Byron Nelson • Tee Vee football: one team wins, one team loses — they tie — who cares? And why? – Edward Abbey • Tee your ball high…air offers less resistance than dirt. – Jack Nicklaus • The devil doesn’t wear prada; I’m clearly in a — white tee. – Tyler, The Creator • The first time I met [Sylvester Stallone], he had golf tees up his nose. So I figured we were going to be OK. – Sandra Bullock • The fourth tee brings out a mixture of excitement and anticipation, for about 220 yards down the fairway you catch a glimpse of Stillwater Cove, and realize you’ll be walking along this spectacular meeting of land and sea for the next two hours. – Doug Ferguson • The Japanese eat, sleep, and breathe golf; the only thing they don’t do is actually play it, because to get on a course, you have to make a reservation roughly 137 years in advance, which means that by the time you actually get to the first tee you are deceased. Of course, in golf this is not really a handicap. – Dave Barry • The man who runs from his office to the golf club, gulps a sandwich, belches and races to the first tee has no business howling in anguish when he puts his first two shots in the woods, then tops a 3-iron shot into the pond. – Tony Lema • The NBAs a Fortune 500 company. Thats how you look at it. And all the other Fortune 500 companies out there in the world, you dont see their CEOs and COOs going to work with white tees and baggy clothes and stuff like that. So I have to take that same approach. – Carmelo Anthony • The only times you touch the ball with your hand are when you tee it up and when you pick it out of the cup. The hell with television towers and cables and burrowing animals and the thousand and one things that are referred to as ‘not part of the golf course’. If you hit the ball off the fairway, you play it from there. – Ken Venturi • The subconscious mind is probably the most important factor in being a good golfer. It keeps distractions on the course from ruining a good round. You should practice, develop your swing, and do most of your thinking on the practice tee so that when you play in competition, you can hit the ball automatically. – Wiffy Cox • There are three things being a celebrity is good for: raising money for charity, dinner reservations and tee times. – Dennis Quaid • There was a time when all I cared about was the next game, the next party, the next tee time. – Brett Favre • There’s not much pressure on the golf Tour. Walking to the first tee is in no way comparable to walking through the jungle in combat – Larry Nelson • To quit between tee and green is more habit-forming than drinking a highball before breakfast. – Sam Snead • Trust me, Joe. You’re not a cowboy. The only cows you ever saw as a kid came under a plastic wrap in the grocery store or in a paper wrapped from McDonald’s. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • We don’t want civilians walking around who know about us. Got it? (Tee) Wow, you’re like a ferocious bunny, aren’t you? (Nathan) Worse. A bunny can be fluffy sometimes. Tee always goes for the throat. Trust me. I’m her partner and she’s shot me three times now. (Joe) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • We have 51 golf courses in Palm Springs. He [President Ford] never decides which course he will play until after the first tee shot. – Bob Hope • We never let our people just go. (Joe) What are you? Wolfram and Hart? (Steele) Oh, no, sweetie, they just take your soul for service. We intend to take even more than that. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Well, I think that Augusta is not the same golf course that I grew up on. Bobby Jones’ philosophy was giving you space off the tee; if you put it in the right side of the fairway, you ended up getting the right angle to the green. – Jack Nicklaus • What a shame to waste those great shots on the practice tee. – Walter Hagen • What’s the longest walk in golf? It’s from the practice tee to the first tee. I don’t care if it’s 10 yards. It’s the longest walk in golf. Winners take their swing with them. Losers don’t. – Moe Norman • When Ballesteros triumphed at the British Open in 1979, for his first major win, he hit so few fairways off the tee that he was often mistaken for a gallery marshall. – Dan Jenkins • When I decided to launch my first knitwear line, it was because I saw a void in the basics category. The editors were always looking for cool, fashion-forward tees and sweaters. So that’s where I started. – Alexander Wang • When I got to the first tee on the first day, to hear the cheers, it was like all the oxygen got sucked out. It was hard to pull the club back. – Patrick Reed • When I have a match to play, I begin to relax as soon as I wake up. Everything I do, I do slow and easy. That goes for stroking the razor, getting dressed, and eating my breakfast. I’m practically in slow motion. By the time I’m ready to tee off, I’m so used to taking my time that it’s impossible to hurry my swing. – Walter Hagen • When I learned that there was such a thing as an atheist, I looked it up – and found out that the definition fitted me to a tee. Finally, at the age of 24, I found out who and what I was. Better late than never. – Madalyn Murray O’Hair • When it come to da: ” What it do?! I don’t fall for da: “Woop- TeE- WoOoo! – Erykah Badu • Why is it when I’m the one shot, I’m a baby, but when it’s you, it’s a matter of life and death and national security? (Joe) Because I’m cuter in a short skirt. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Yeah. Kip gets to guard you and I get to house-sit. Life bites the big tee-tawa. (Syn) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • You are so vicious. (Tee) Hence the nickname. (Syd) You know it’s bad when you make me look like Glinda the Good Witch, right? (Tee) Just call me Elphaba. But don’t drop a house on me, ‘kay? (Syd) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • You don’t lose your swing between the ninth green and the tenth tee, and you don’t lose your swing from one day to the next. If you think you do, something is going on that you don’t understand. A diary might help explain it to you. – Harvey Penick • You draw on your own childhood every time you tee it up as an actor. – Ron Perlman • You ever go up to the tee and say, ‘Don’t hit it left, don’t hit it right’? That’s your conscious mind. My body knows how to play golf. I’ve trained it to do that. It’s just a matter of keeping my conscious mind out of it. – Tiger Woods • You hear stories about me beating my brains out practicing, but the truth is, I was enjoying myself. I couldn’t wait to get up in the morning so I could hit balls. I’d be at the practice tee at the crack of dawn, hit balls for a few hours, then take a break and get right back to it. And I still thoroughly enjoy it. When I’m hitting the ball where I want, hard and crisply – when anyone is – it’s a joy that very few people experience. – Ben Hogan • You just don’t have the time to worry about what others are doing. You just want to take care of your own business. You are focused on that tee shot on the 10th tee and making it to the finish line. It’s one of the most stressful moments in professional golf, but you have worked so hard to get to that point, that it really is fun. – Mike Weir • You know what I hate about rock? I hate tie-dyed tee shirts. I wouldn’t wear a tie-dyed tee shirt unless it was dyed with the urine of Phil Collins and the blood of Jerry Garcia. – Kurt Cobain • You’re such a crybaby. (Tee) Let me almost shoot off one of your testicles and see how you cope. (Joe) You shouldn’t have moved, Joe. It was your fault. (Tee) Yeah, everything’s my fault. (Joe) Good, then we agree. (Tee) – Sherrilyn Kenyon • Your white tee, well to me, looks like a nightgown; Make your mama proud, take that thing two sizes down. – Andre Benjamin

• A good friend of mine took me out and had me hit off a tee. He made me understand what was my strike zone and – with my speed – the importance of making contact. If I’m stepping out, a pair of blue jeans and a white tee are just fine. – Genelia D’Souza
jQuery(document).ready(function($) var data = action: 'polyxgo_products_search', type: 'Product', keywords: 'Tee', orderby: 'rand', order: 'DESC', template: '1', limit: '68', columns: '4', viewall:'Shop All', ; jQuery.post(spyr_params.ajaxurl,data, function(response) var obj = jQuery.parseJSON(response); jQuery('#thelovesof_tee').html(obj); jQuery('#thelovesof_tee img.swiper-lazy:not(.swiper-lazy-loaded)' ).each(function () var img = jQuery(this); img.attr("src",img.data('src')); img.addClass( 'swiper-lazy-loaded' ); img.removeAttr('data-src'); ); ); ); • Bob Hope has a beautiful short game.
