Lord Garm is BACKKK

I honestly believe that Lloyd is the reason why Garm was able to snap out of his evilness to kill the Great Devourer. cuz if u look at Garm b4 Lloyd calls him he looks like he's ready to be evil, but it seems (to me) that lloyd calling him was able to snap Garm back into reality for those few secs.

Everyone is entitled to their own interps but I think ignoring the tomorrow's tea is lame

#I say this because like. It's important to the themes of Lloyd's character imo #The loss of innocence and being able to experience childhood #because of circumstances outside his control #it puts in perspective the sacrifices he had to make at such a young age and idk it can be impactful if you put the effort in to let it be #does this make sense #let it be known though that it's also lame to say he's forever a kid trapped in a teen/adult body #because that's. Not true #it may have been at first. But I think his mental maturity did in fact catch up with his physical maturity #ninjago #lego ninjago #lloyd garmadon #rant

silly little thought that circulates my mind everyday but lloyd subconsciously leaning on the ninja or smthn whenever he's tired and the ninja immediately noticing it and doing something about it

maybe they're at the commissioner's office after a battle, reporting to him what happened when Kai feels someone leaning against him. he looks down and sees lloyd loosely wrap his hand around Kai's fingers as he subtly shifts his body weight onto the side leaning against Kai. His face remains focused on the words Nya and Zane were speaking but on a closer glance, Kai saw the way the kid's eyes were blinking fast as if to delay sleep and how he pursed his lips to keep his yawn in

he's clearly exhausted but is fighting it. and Kai was not letting that happen

thus begins Operation: Bedtime™️

Kai settled his eyes on Cole and waited till the other noticed before he tilted his head slightly towards the kid and the earth master instantly understood. cole nudges jay and with one quick glance and jay was already- metaphorically- rolling up his sleeves

Jay: GUYS! I- uh, FORGOT TO TURN OFF MY TOASTER AGAIN! Whoops, haha! silly me :D

Nya: jay how many times have i told you to stop making eggs in your toastoH OH YEAH ME TOO

the second he hears toaster, zane is already asking pixal to send their vehicles and that Operation: Bedtime™️ is a go

rushing bc im hungry but basically the Commish is like ????tf ing but Cole is already picking up Lloyd who is startled for a hot second before Kai pets his hair and he literally just *shlump* against Cole while Zane has opened the door and Nya and Jay are trying to explain the commisioner that they'll text the rest of the deets later and just. runs.

six minutes and at least three broken traffic laws, they're back at the monastery and are running-as gently as possible- to Lloyd's room where Pixal and Master Wu has already turned on the night light, made sure the humidifier is running and the beds ready

with a flurry of movement and sharp whispers, Lloyd is finally asleep tucked into bed with Kai's old dragon plushie cuddled to his chest and warm blankets covering him as the ninja pat themselves on the back as a "mission accomplished" and also look at their little greenie fondly

this doesnt happen often though bc after bad experiences with lloyd not sleeping properly and him almost getting hurt due to it, zane has like an internal alarm for Lloyd's bedtime and if he is not in bed five minutes after the alarm by himself, the ninja will Not Hesitate

Operation: Bedtime™️ is an extremely sensitive, high priority mission that needs to be executed perfectly because the only time it's intiated is when lloyd shows signs of tiredness which he is usually very good at hiding (to a concerning amount)

im gonna be honest even as a resident rgb siblings liker, it gets annoying sometimes how religiously the fandom adheres to the idea of the ninja being nuclear-family coded. Show me Kai and Nya infantalizing their grown-ass adult friend one more time I dare you

I think that to boost morale after especially large disasters the ninja should host pokemon contest-esque shows.

Just them showing off their powers in fun ways, they can occasionally get a few of the other elemental masters in- usually it's Skylor. They let audience members come up too. Just something to keep spirits up a small bit

The Last One - A Kai Character Study

Summary: When Kai saw Zane unlock his True potential, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride burn within him. That sense of pride continued to consume him, as Kai tried to unlock his own.

A/N: My friend and I started rewatching Ninjago and we kept analysing Kai a lot during the Green Ninja episode. We wanted to try and formulate a reason behind his obsession with becoming the Green Ninja, so I wrote a character study based on that episode. Enjoy!

When Kai saw Zane unlock his True Potential, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride burn within him. It was a small spark, but it was enough to cause heat to crawl all over his organs. His heart grew more warm with each beat, enough to keep Kai warm around Zane’s ice.

He watched as Zane’s eyes glowed an icy blue as he levitated in the air. He was engulfed in a pillar of blue light - he was ethereal. He was breathtaking. Zane was always the most level headed of the team, so of course he would unlock it first. Kai was proud that his brother had been able to learn about his past and unlock his elemental powers. He was proud to know that someday, he may look this cool too.

Then Jay eventually unlocked his True Potential. Kai was happy since Jay unlocked his while saving Nya. Jay was more suited to save her anyway, since Kai had already failed to protect her when he first met Samukai. The spark within caused a few embers to slowly rise in his body at that reminder. His heart caught on fire, and the beating could not put out the flames. Each beat allowed soot to ooze into his heart’s chambers and settle.

Golden sparks danced around Cole as he lifted the stage lights that fell on his father. Bright orange flames danced through Kai’s body as he watched. The tips of the flames were like knives that scraped against the inside of Kai’s body. They could never achieve the coordinated choreography of those golden sparks. Kai was so certain that he would unlock his True potential next! It wasn’t fair everyone else unlocked theirs before him! He remembered when Cole paraded himself as the fearless type of the group. He was the team’s leader, so of course he seemed fearless. Well maybe he was the leader since he was Sensei’s pupil longer than Kai.

Kai was the last ninja that Sensei Wu had gathered. He did not even train with the other three before they formed a team. Now he was the last one to unlock his True potential.

As the ninja trained on the Bounty’s deck, Kai snuck away to find out more about the Green Ninja. He could still prove himself! He could still unlock his True Potential! He found the robes and his heart caught on fire once more. Kai could no longer feel his heartbeats as his hand grazed the soft, green silk. He hastily tried it on - it fits him! Perhaps it was destiny, after all. If he was the Green Ninja, then it did not matter if he was the last one to receive his True Potential, he was already the best!

But not all flames burn green.

Kai moved around in the suit. He could feel the fabric start to hug his knees as he forced a kick. He waved his arms but no fire was created, not even a spark. His heart grew heavy as more soot oozed through his aortas. The only fire he could create was the one that made his heart slowly turn black.

Eventually, Lord Garmadon came to live on the Destiny’s Bounty. He had four arms, a feat that would not have happened if he had not managed to unite the Four Golden Weapons. Wasn’t it Kai who lead Lord Garmadon to kidnap three of the weapons when the ninja were asleep? Wasn’t it Kai who had run off to the Temple of Fire after Lord Garmadon tricked him? Kai was the last one to receive his Golden Weapon, and he was the reason that lead to Lord Garmadon being able to possess them all. What good was he if he couldn’t overcome this past failure?

A few days passed and Kai had Lord Garmadon pinned down on the ground. He did it! He stopped the most evil villain in all of Ninjago. So why were his arms not covered in flames? Why were his eyes not glowing? Why did Sensei Wu look at him with a scowl?

“Perhaps it is best you do not reach your True potential, or else someone could get hurt.”

Sensei’s words lingered in Kai’s brain as he ran deeper into the Fire Temple. The words were like smoke that clouded his brain. Perhaps it was the smoke coming from the fire that was eating away at his heart.

His heart was charred by the time the volcano threatened to erupt. Kai couldn’t leave without the Fang Blade. Its shiny surface mocked him, the same way the Sword of Fire did when Lord Garmadon urged him to grab it. Kai threw his sword at Pythor and managed to knock the Fang Blade into the wall. He desperately pulled at the sword but it would not bulge. Most of Kai’s strength was being used up to calm his rapidly beating heart. Its beats were crying for help, trying to pump out the soot that was suffocating it. Kai couldn’t hear its cries over the temple falling around him.

The others made their escape. Kai was the last ninja left in the volcano. That did not matter. If he got the Fang Blade then that means he was the Green Ninja!

He had managed to get the Fang Blade out of the wall, but it fell onto a rock in the lava below. He was so close! His hands grazed the metal handle, welcoming the heat as the blade started to melt. He was already used to feeling on fire.

“Kai! Help me!”

It was Lloyd. Kai heard his cries, despite the falling rocks and bubbling lava surrounding him. He turned towards Lloyd and saw him standing on a rock, floating in the middle of the crater. Lloyd’s distress washed over Kai like a wave. He knew what he had to do.

He jumped towards Lloyd and held onto the boy as a wall of fire surrounded them. Kai’s eyes began to glow red and his body was engulfed in flames. Every part of him was on fire, except for his heart. It had finally cooled down.
