Red-headed Krait (Bungarus flaviceps) one of the highly venomous elapid snake that has awesome striking colouration. Red-headed kraits are nocturnal, semi-aquatic and inhabits rain forests in mountainous and hilly regions.
First time road cruising and our guide Steven spotted this beauty. Honestly, I was fighting not to fall asleep in the car, but that moment and their excitement woke me up. Good memory for our first road cruising :)

Maybe except for banded kraits, who skipped cute and went straight to photogenic. I've never seen a bad picture of these guys. Related but distinct vibe.

are there any venomous snakes that could bite you in your sleep and not wake you up? for context, i had a story idea about an assassin who trains a snake to bite people in their sleep and not wake them up before they die. obviously the whole ‘training a snake to that level of specificity’ thing would be fiction, but i was wondering if it would be plausible from the venom side. thank you, and have a great day! :)
Yes! It's not common, but there's one snake who absolutely fits this bill: the common krait. This exact scenario actually isn't unheard of with kraits; they tend to hide during houses during the winter and might bite people inside at night if they're hiding in a bed and get rolled on or similar. Krait bites cause very little pain immediately, so it's absolutely possible for the bite to not wake you up.
The real challenge with your scenario, though, is that snake bites are not quick things. Common kraits actually have pretty severe venom, but even then, you're looking at four hours before death at least. Now, there are recorded cases of kraits biting people during the night and them dying in their sleep, but it's not common simply because of how long it takes for a snake bite to kill you.
Since this is fiction, you obviously have some leeway. I think a common krait fits what you're looking for nicely!
