Yeah yeah the passage of time is scary and all that but do you wanna know what's REALLY scary?? Random people on the internet are starting to correctly identify the Black Arms symbol instead of calling it Shadow's????? When did THAT start happening like HEY HOLD ON WHEN DID Y'ALL START TO BE SMART?

There are way too many things to analyze in this scene!
First of all, I couldn't help but notice how Nine hid away his strengths and capabilities. He internally loves and enjoys a little gloating and all but when he senses it could have a consequence, he hides it away. The same way he tends to hide his tails! The same way he refuses to fly in front of others (the only times we've seen him fly is either in front of only Sonic or to save Sonic. And just once when they were escaping from the Egg Forcers back in Escape from New Yoke City. He remained cautious throughout afterwards to not fly in front of the Resistance again.) Anyways, here in the beginning of this scene, he hides away what he can do bcoz a part of him has figured out that letting Eggman learn anymore of his capabilities could lead to a consequence, he just doesn't know what it could be.
"You think I have vision and imagination?"
There is scepticism in his voice, not hope or confidence or smugness. He knows what he can do and he is trying to hide it.
.....
Secondly, using Nine's intellect against him in a tricky way. It seems Mr Dr Eggman - ugh, this name is a mouthful, I'll just refer to him as Eggman - it seems Eggman's skills lie much more in manipulation tactics than previously presumed. He's also using the fox's insecurities to hit him where it hurts.
......
Moving on to the third thing- Nine, when his deepest insecurities were being pointed out, we could see in his eyes that the words were having an effect on him. He's a traumatized kid still and just because he had learned to fight back doesn't mean he still can't get hurt. He did get hurt in this scene.
Tumblr media
But then he blinked and instantly composed himself and smirked back. An act. Both a coping mechanism and a method to fight back. Hide your vulnerabilities, hide and pretend to be unaffected by what hurts you so the other wouldn't succeed, so the other wouldn't keep it up. Nine did just that. He diverted what was thrown at him and turned it around.
"I'm pathetic? You're the ones with unlimited power and all you can think to do is build a bigger robot."
A deflected strike back and criticism on the other instead of falling on defending himself cuz that would've both implied he felt insecure and would've revealed his capabilities. That was one psychological attack he dealt against, which indicates he might've suffered from it in his life before (no wonder he's so bitter about the city and its inhabitants).
.....
Moving on, he clearly has as much confidence in Sonic as Tails often does, like a brother, that's pretty sweet. He has full confidence and belief that the council can't beat Sonic and he feels both smug and happy about it. He's gotten attached to the hedgehog just as much.
Whatever his goals are, whatever his end motives will be, a part of him has genuinely accepted Sonic as his kin and did so long ago, right when he asked Sonic, "What else did we do?" It's clear from analysing his character in this scene that Nine never willingly shows any of his insecurities to anyone, much less vulnerabilities. He is never open with others but in that moment, he consciously made the decision to be vulnerable with the hedgehog, to let some hope and yearning take over him in that moment. He trusted Sonic. He still cares about the other just as much.
......
And finally, that one thing that happened to poor Tails in SA2 just happened to Nine. Even the reaction is the same! Tails accidentally revealed that Sonic had the fake Emerald, Nine accidentally revealed how to be on the same level as Sonic. And both times, Eggman manipulated his way through it to get confirmation from the fox. Which is both kinda regretful and funny. I like how they sneaked in that easter egg.
Also, the way he panicked and worried and blamed himself right afterwards he cares about his friend so much! Ufhevxjfjtjfjfjjgj

Wait hold up if G.U.N was created as an after effect of Sonics and Dr. Robotniks fight in San Francisco, what does that mean for Shadow?
Wasn’t G.U.N the organisation that hunted him down and was the cause of Maria’s death? Unless I’m remembering it wrong, which I might be tbh. Does that mean there was another unit monitoring Gerald and deemed him too deadly or was it still G.U.N that just reformed on a larger scale after the SF fight.
I can see higher ups being aware of Project Shadow but how much do they really know?
Aaahhh the SCU actually looking at consequences of the previous films is refreshing and interesting to consider, it’s actually a really intriguing part and hopefully it’ll be done well!
Hey Hon!❤️✨
You’re correct in G.U.N.’s origins in the game! Don’t worry, I promise. I know that the Adventure games and Shadow’s game are a bit hard to come by, but you’ve got the general idea correct. (This is the post in reference if anyone is curious).
We must remember that these movies are going to be a bit different from the games. The movies use the backbones and “meat” of the games in order to tell their versions of the story. Some of it will require knowledge of the games while others may try and spin a concept in a different light.
We know what Guardian Units of Nations is because we’re diehard fans. Beginner and casual fans might not know. And that’s okay! We know that they’re a nation’s defense force; a military organization established to respond to major criminal cases and domestic conflicts (SA2’s Hero/Dark game guide). That’s kinda like saying they’re the equivalent of modern day military, right? The movie’s explanation for G.U.N. might be that they’re a military branch that responds to conflict both domestic and international. It would make sense. General Walters works at the Pentagon, wears various combat badges, share his unit ranking, and all that jazz. So, yeah! It’s quite possible for G.U.N. to be a newly established task force, but have recruiters transfer to a new branch. They probably are relatively new.
As for knowing who Shadow is, it’s quite possible that he could be an X-File of sorts in this scenario. In all honesty, it really wouldn’t surprise me if he was classified as something like that. We know that Shadow’s both a weapon and a cure. It’s very possible for higher-ups to know his existence, have it filed/redacted somewhere in archives, and having high-ranking officials know about him. As of right now, we don’t know what Shadow’s fate will be. It’s really up to him to determine that.
Honestly, anything is fair game at this point! I’m excited to see what’s brought to the table for this one.😁

No like, when? Starline never referred to you in Bad Guys OR Imposter Syndrome. He literally only collabed with you for a distraction in Chao Race arc, and even that was Clutch doing his own thing for rigging races, not the much later Egg mech scrapping
It gets dumber given how secretive Starline was about Surge/Kit for his project, and how he was to backstab the other villains. Clutch should NOT know anything
Anyway
Tumblr media
Look Flynn, I get Mazuri is based on Africa (particularly Tanzania and Timbuktu), but please...don't ref it like it's in need of humanitarian aid like this. I'm still recovering from you unironically calling the continent Efrika
Speaking of reffing inappropriately, Amy, you literally weren't there
Tumblr media
Sonic 3K, Adventure 1, Advance 2, Battle, Rivals 1 and 2...nowhere you were there. Deary, you're talking out of your ass
Shadow has more weight cuz she knew he was with Eggman most of SA2's campaign, but still didn't know of the fights generally
(This is what happens when the writer is too meta for their own good, not realizing that chars need context)
Anyway, kinda annoying how Surge is constantly noting how moronic everyone (especially IDWSonic) but Whisper is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn't cathartic. It's just frustrating, especially since Whisper is still punched down for her opinion
Also this is weird
Tumblr media
Tails is literally the only reason you calmed down. Why have beef with him? Reminds me how he was jealous of Tails out of nowhere issue 56, but even there he was able to be convinced to not attack him
This issue again is filler of a bunch of villains suddenly connecting, and the "heroes" being so braindead they can't see the red flags

more sketches with these batsards
I tried to redo the combat for them, since they're mobian and do not have pokemon now. And I figured that not each one of them will have the same powers like Sonic or Tails do. Most of them will probably not be able to do a basic spin attack because reasons. So I thought of possible solutions. For the Sinnoh characters, at least.
under the cut
Tumblr media
Dia uses his tail as his everything. He hoards berries and other stuff in it and treats it like his second backpack, just like his Munchlax. That's why he's a bit more heavy. Bro is smart enough to use his tail as his third hand as well. His Mach Diamond Special Razor Leaf One and Only™ will probably also have something to do with his tail, like shooting leaves/berry spikes from it rapidly. To make his tail sturdier, he splashes special berry juice on it.
I thought that maybe the Sinnoh trio also have Super forms, so by being blessed by the lake guardians, they become powered up by their Emotions/Determination/Knowledge.
Tumblr media
Pearl, on the other hand, is all about speed. I suppose no one will argue if I gave him a boost as a replacement for Chimhiko's fire blasted boost. And I think homing attacks would be cool too. To replace his Chahiko, I can give him a friend Flicky.
For obtaining pokemon, I'd say they'll be getting something like power ups from SA/SA2. Thus, Pastoria Marsh will be an adventure field where you need to find an upgrade, since apparently beating each other to death is a sport.
Little Miss would have some kind of psychic powers. Given that she's from a wealthy family, might as well make it so that she's from a family which has this power as a legacy. I'd say controlling ice? She has a Froslass and Empoleon, which have ice attacks. It'd be like the opposite of Blaze, kinda. I believe she would still have some kind of mount to replace Ponyta/Rapidash, but I'm not exactly sure which one I could give to her.🤔🤔
Riley has the same abilities and attacks as his Lucario.
Team Galactic uses gadgets and gizmos to help them fight.
Cynthia here is a dragon, so of course she would have somewhat similar attacks to her Garchomp. She also has a hoverboard(reference to Sonic Riders), with which she races. When the trio is in Celestic Town, she leaves them her hoverboard instead of going in by herself.
Oh, also. Pokédex holders like Crystal and Ruby will have their titles tied to Chao and other creatures from sth series. Crystal studies them and catches them, while Ruby participates in Chao cups and contests. So maybe that means that Battle Frontier is like... Chao karate? lol.
What about Pokémon puns? I'm... not sure?? You can change the comedy routine's subject into just about anything sonic universe related.

New lore was dropped by Iizuka at a fan Q+A apparently. Interestingly, it's been revealed that Eggman is below the age of 50, that he never personally knew Gerald and Maria, his father was one of Gerald's two sons and that he is younger than Maria.
I find all of this fascinating.
You scared me LMFAO my heart stopped and blood ran cold for a sec but before I could go through all the stages of grief I was like hold on lemme see that source and found that isn't the case phew. If it was final that he was so young in his 40s I'd be devastated lol. Not just because I wouldn't want to believe it but also all the evidence suggests otherwise.
They considered putting him at 60 in the Sonic CD concept art, he's referred to as old and middle-aged, uses the Washi pronoun in JP, is associated with the Respect for the Aged Day in Japan where senior citizens are apparently 65+. Most recently we have the Egg Memo where Eggman specifies that he "never really knew" Maria, so he had to exist for at least some time when she was alive to feel the need to specify that.
Also, while a bit more speculative, it'd make sense if part of the reason he was so upset about how Gerald's plan to destroy the planet would've resulted in his death too is because he existed at the time even if he was very young, and Gerald would've known he had a grandson despite not meeting him and didn't consider or care for it to stop him. And that hit hard with him being his grandfather and idol he admired so much. I feel it'd kinda water down the impact and weight of it if it was like "He didn't consider that he could've potentially killed his grandson, even though I didn't exist yet." :P
But yeah it wouldn't make sense for him to be so young in his 40s, there's way too much emphasis on him being old and that would be way too young for it. Plus with the memo being solid canon on top of all the hints, it still doesn't make sense if you disregard the rest of the logic. So I was like no this can't be!!!
Then I saw the source to see that Iizuka apparently didn't actually say Eggman "yes, Eggman is 100% under 50" and I'm so relieved lol.
I just wanna break it down so I have something to link to people if this ever comes up in the future:
It was specifically the OP saying Eggman was literally "under 50", as if it was said to be 100% certain and confirmed final fact
Tumblr media
But when they quote Iizuka directly, it turns out he apparently said: "His age hasn't been disclosed but he's probably under 50."
Tumblr media
I knew they weren't gonna suddenly reveal his solid age now after all his time of it being unknown in all his bios, only heavily hinted at and implied with the examples listed above. If they're finally gonna go all out and finalize a specific age, it's definitely not gonna be at a Q&A.
Iizuka still saying it "is not disclosed" and the use of "probably" doesn't count as confirmation at all. He's just basing an estimate on the logic that if he didn't know Maria and Gerald then he might not have existed at the same time as them at all but all the evidence seems to show otherwise. Either way, it still "is not disclosed." So it's all just probable estimates.
So yeah at first my heart was like *glass shatter sfx* 💔 then I read the actual thread and I was like oh wait nevermind lol ❤️‍🩹 Here's the link to it btw
--------------------
Anyway now that we've got that out of the way, let's talk about the other stuff.
It was always obvious that Eggman never knew Gerald personally. He never speaks of direct anecdotes or personal experiences. Hell, he doesn't even know about the ARK before SA2. So of course the same goes for Maria, that was clear before it was confirmed in the Egg Memo.
As for Maria being older than Eggman, I never decided on whether I thought so or not because there wasn't ever anything to actually suggest it. But sure, that can make sense. She can be older than him without it meaning that he didn't exist at any point while she was still alive.
But I'm still definitely under the impression that he did exist for at least some time when she was alive, even if he was very young. He had to be. He specifically emphasizes that he "never really knew" Maria in the Egg Memo. Why would he need to if he never even existed when she was alive? It would've been obvious.
So I feel it implies he didn't *really* know her because while he was alive at the same time even if just a little, he didn't meet her in person and only learned of her through how others talked of her.
Then him mentioning that she was "gone" immediately after is just him then jumping to the part after her death, where he started learning about her more because she became the big subject after her tragic death and then of course he became jealous.
This also adds up with Iizuka saying Eggman didn't learn all this information about Maria until after her death
Tumblr media
Here's what I'm thinking. He existed the same time as her even if he was very young but he didn't meet her obviously because she was on the ARK all her life wondering what it was like on Earth and Eggman didn't even know about the ARK until SA2. Then she became the hot topic after her tragic death so Eggman got so somewhat "know" her through their word but still didn't "really" know her because they didn't literally meet. Makes sense!
And lastly, if it's true that he said Eggman's father is Gerald's son then I'm so happy about that, since it's always been my headcanon that he was the paternal grandfather! :D
So yeah this was really just Iizuka saying what me and others have been saying already as far as him not knowing Gerald and Maria personally. Then also him making an unconfirmed non solid estimate of his age with the "probably" but the games and Sonic Channel suggests he has to be 50 AT LEAST. Seems to be over it actually, since he had to be alive some time before the ARK raid/the same time as Maria, even if just for a little while.

Question! Do you have any tips on how to write Knuckles? Or, alternatively, how do you lesrn how to write characters for AUs?
Tips for writing knuckles:
-It depends on which version of Knuckles you wanna write. If I want to write Boom Knuckles, I usually just watch compilations of Knuckles to get a grasp on his character, mannerisms, and way of speaking. If your looking to write the main series Knuckles, watch game cutscenes, look at idw panels, etc. they are kinda like character references you can use to figure out your own way of writing the character. (This can work with any character really)
How to learn to write characters for AU’s:
- I doubt your refering to OC’s here. If your looking to write a canon character for an AU, I’d say think about your AU and how it affects the character your looking to write. How do the changes and events impact the character? Are they better or worse off? Think about things like that when you writing the character. A good example to put it into perspective would be: imagine an AU where Maria didn’t die. She was put in stasis with Shadow and was woken up with him in SA2. This is a change that would impact Shadow the most. He’d be better off for it. And the way he would be written would change accordingly.
Hope this helps and answers your questions. ☺️

the OFFICIAL sonatchet propaganda post from the REAL ceo of sonatchet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
are you a fan of sonic the hedgehog? perhaps ratchet and clank is more your style? or maybe you like both? well, have I got the ship for you.
now, why should YOU ship sonatchet? it's simple: the franchises have so much in common. now, sonic fans, when i say, an anthropomorphic creature has to stop the evil capitalist baddie from taking over the world with his little buddy, smart as a whistle. along the way, he grinds rails, he follows his own path, not exactly good, but certainly heroic. he does this all with an absolutely brilliant soundtrack. and yeah, maybe the more recent games haven't been so good, writing and gameplay-wise, but hey, we're getting back on track.
what i have just described to you is ratchet and clank. initially created a year after everyone's golden child of sonic games, sa2, by ex-members of sonic team, ratchet and clank has been a vital part of my upbringing, more so than sonic has. for me, sonic is a more recent thing. i've been a fan since i was 5. when did i become a fan of r&c, you may ask? well, my first memory is my dad playing it in front of me, to give you an idea. i couldn't walk or speak properly, sat in a high chair, presumably eating soggy toast, one half marmite and the other of bovril. but, by that point, i was used to the experience - i can't even remember the first time i watched him play.
for any sonic fans who havent yet got the gist, imagine shadow the hedgehog (2005) with good writing that sounds like how actual people speak and less goofy weapons. edginess for the sake of humour rather than for edginess. oh also there is actual genocide in r&c1 quick heads up.
so, r&c fans, with it being far more mainstream, you're probably well aware of the overlap between the two franchises. hell, most of you reading probably are sonic fans. so, of course, i probably wont have to explain sonic in ratchet and clank terms. i want to but i wont. at the end of the day, all you need to know is that sonic is a hedgehog who runs fast and is kinda like ratchet.
THE SIMILARITIES
quickfire round! if it's in blue, it's headcanon, if it's plain text, it's canon!
transmasc and bi
somewhat morally grey, however definitely on the good side and classes themself as a hero
has a younger brother-figure/best friend who's good with electronics and can let him fly
has to fight robots
the biggest baddie is usually capitalism or actual cosmic horrors
space is vaguely related
sci fi
both quite calm and laid back but can get very serious and angry if you let them
adventurous travellers
fairly flirty but never seem to settle down (aroace reference?)
from what ive heard stc sonic is basically slightly angrier 2002 ratchet (i havent read stc though)
both almost the exact same age, with ratchet being 14-16, depending on which game, and sonic being 15
THE DIFFERENCES
ratchet LOVES weapons, with the vast arsenal being one of the main selling points of r&c1/sonic is known for spin dash
ratchet canonically has negative rizz (though i believe has had canon love interests iirc?)/sonic is attractive to almost everyone
ratchet has explored multiple galaxies/sonic has only explored a single planet and the odd space station
sonic is probably more likely to do the right thing
sonic is a giant environmentalist, literally has befriended nature/ratchet cares more about saving people than planets, unless it's an actual planet blowing up. like, the planet will cease to exist from quark's super laser piss or something
all of this ties together to create the wonderful ship we call sonatchet, a real and true yearning across franchises. truly, god made them in different game studios because he knew they would be unstoppable as canon lovers.
for any sonic fans wanting a really good comparison, id say the best i can give you is sonadow with a sonknux dynamic? though, not entirely. obviously, if there were a comparable ship, i wouldn't bother tagging in another guy from a completely seperate franchise, so please, please, understand the joys of sonatchet.

So, where'd GUN go?
In SA 2, we all rememeber GUN, and they were important to Shadow's backstory. However, there is no reference to them in the IDW comics. I wanna know what happened to them. It's kinda baffling that they'd drop off the face of the world without a mention, especially since a lot of SA2 stuff gets love in the comics.

The whole deal with "But Sonic is inconsistent so who cares?" is kinda funny to me because, technically, it's true! The games have tons of inconsistencies big and small! From retcons to plot holes to inconsistent portrayals. God knows it's led to me barely giving a rat's ass to Sonic canon anymore!
Now find me even a single 30+ year old game franchise that doesn't have similar issues
Mega Man has similar issues.
Castlevania had to restructure its timeline in a somewhat arbitrary way to clear up some early fuck ups within canon
Zelda had to turn its timeline into a goddamn tree and even then they barely care
Metroid is pretty consistent as far as videogame canons go and even there you have the occasional "Eehh no this thing actually happened like this, ignore what the character said last game"
If a series is inconsistent wouldn't you want to, I dunno, make it MORE consistent instead of adding to the overall mess?
Maybe by "inconsistent" they mean "there are so many different adaptations out there that it's difficult to keep track," but even then, that wouldn't be the games' fault.
In terms of narrative, continuity, and core characterization, the series isn't all that inconsistent, honestly. Flanderization by its nature isn't part of core characterization but an exaggeration/bastardization of various traits (in other words, bad writing). And most retcons, such as Eggman having a grandfather and cousin in SA2 but not SA1, occur after the fact, revealing new information as it becomes relevant. It's not so much contradictory as it is just that what we didn't know then, we know now. (However, I would argue that of the entire cast, Knuckles is really the only one who qualifies as inconsistent. But that's for another time.) Each game is mostly standalone yet builds upon previous ones in subtle ways. SA1 references the Classic games; SA2 builds upon SA1; Heroes references SA2 and SA1; Battle references SA1, SA2, Heroes, and ShTH; Advance 3 builds upon Battle; SatBK hearkens back to SA2 with a memory Sonic relays about the Biolizard; Generations references all the games and includes a line that implies SatSR is canon; etc. Sure, certain stories aren't as tightly-written as they could be - one issue I have with Unleashed is that Eggman basically doesn't factor in in the middle of the story when he arguably should - but those metacontextual issues don't factor into whether the series as a whole is inconsistent. More and more I'm starting to feel like those who espouse this viewpoint don't pay terribly close attention to the games, because the games eventually explain themselves for the most part, anyhow. Or else you're operating based on misinterpretations of the source material. For example: "The moon blew up in SA2 so why do we see it in full in ShTH?" becomes a nonissue when you play Advance 3 and Riders and realize Sonic's world has two moons. "Money doesn't exist" is simply not true, because "financial communities" are said to be "impacted" by the Eclipse Cannon demonstration in SA2, Vector's motive is money in multiple games, and you can buy things with rings in Unleashed. "Why don't they say 'oh my Chaos'?" Because Chaos is the God of Destruction, not the world's creator? Also, Amy blasphemes "oh my God" and Sonic games have referenced hell before. So on and so forth. As for a lack of timeline... I honestly don't see it. There may be some weirdness with how Battle fits in, though that can easily be explained as it releasing concurrently with Heroes. Also, I thought it was fairly obvious that Mania/Forces represents a split in the timeline where Eggman obtains the Phantom Ruby at different points. But other than that, I really don't see how the series' timeline is inconsistent. Based on how each game builds upon the previous, there's really no reason not to believe that the games don't occur in chronological order for the most part.

I did it. I'm done with the Final Horizon.
The side stories...alright did anyone else run into issues where voice lines would randomly not play or was that just me? I had to keep reloading saves because it would glitch and be dead silent for like 10 seconds until the next audio file came up.
I heard lots of people didn't really like the writing in this update, but it really was just more of the same from Frontiers. Nothing scenes with poor character voice. Yeah, there were bad lines, but base game had those, too. The cyber corruption Sonic's friends go through is also just as meaningless here as it was in base game.
The biggest part I didn't like was how much this felt like an afterthought, which is because it WAS an afterthought. I didn't think the base ending was spectacular, but it also felt more in line with how the rest of the story was built.
Here, the first cutscene literally just tries to undo the Rhea island scene and everything is so tacked on. Sonic's friends face cyber corruption from interacting with cyberspace? But they're also TRAPPED in cyberspace, so why is this any different to what they've been doing? Weren't they technically helping Sonic get the Emeralds on the other islands, hence getting Emerald rewards for quests?
It's just a lot of fluff masking this basic "earn the respect of the Ancient's pilots to get a new super form that can deal with The End" and...alright. I've never been concerned over power scaling. You don't NEED to go bigger and better every time, all you have to do is make me care about the stakes and you have a good narrative. That final battle made regular Super Sonic look like a pussy so Hyper Sonic Super Sonic 2 could look so much more powerful. And I know why. This is the exact thing Ian Flynn said he wanted, only he skirted around the no Hyper decision by just changing Sonic's eye color.
But really, you have invincible Super Sonic here, WINCING and getting his hands YANKED AROUND by the cyber energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TWO ISLANDS AGO he was swinging a giant sword.
Tumblr media
But now, he can't even DENT the boss without this power up. This either makes Super Sonic look weak or this stupidly easy titan tied to a rock mightier than a god.
The Sonic X reference though wasn't lost on me and I admit, I thought it was cool. Even if Super Sonic with blue eyes is a bit uncanny.
The fight itself though is...not very well choreographed. I lost my first attempt and still kinda fumbled around because I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Seriously, when was quick cyloop EVER useful in one of these fights? And now I'm required to do it twice with the penalty of failing being forced to redo the Supreme fight AGAIN?
This is a case where Sonic's friends would've been helpful. I know, I know, I got sick of "THAT LOOKS LIKE A HOMING SHOT" very quickly, but a little thing like "Sever that connection!" or "It's down! Get the gun!" would've helped.
Though, I liked the fight alright and it certainly had the spectacle Supreme lacked.
New music was good, though! The vocal theme for I'm With You is 10x better than Dear Father and I LOVED the I'm Here remix.
Overall, I'm...conflicted. I don't think I liked the update? Really I'm trying to recall having fun with it at any point. There were a few cool moments, the Cyclone having that fuck u laser from SA2 was definitely one, but there wasn't a high point, it was just baseline and lower.
It really upset me at a few points and I couldn't even get performatively angry, it broke me and I was just sad, though I kept going. I think I've grown numb to the bullshit. Really, this was just more of Frontiers with some added jank and difficulty.
The worst parts were challenges 2 and 5. Aside from that, there's not really difficulty as much as bullshit and cheap design. Even my brother came in and asked why they stuck this platform you have to glide to at an angle that causes you to slide off. I rage quit 4-H because they ask you to do PRECISE platforming on tiny angled boxes. With physics that make that near impossible. That's bullshit design and not a difficulty issue.
Also, who thought the rescuing animal objectives were a good idea? ESPECIALLY IN 4-H. There's a glitch where when Sonic gets the animal to safety, he stays stuck in carrying mode which means low jump, no boost, double jump, homing attack, you're basically dead in the water. It goes away at certain points, so maybe this was intentional, but also, seriously?
This was a FREE CONTENT UPDATE that they announced a month before it got pushed out, so why was it rushed so badly that the physics sliders don't even work properly for the extra characters?
At the end of the day though, replaying base Frontiers right before this and running into the EXACT same problems made me realize that it's just more of the same. Base Frontiers has some big faults and pretty BS design, it's just dialed up to 11 here.
I don't want to play Frontiers again, much less this update.

I forgot you like the science stuff ooooooooh okay and you mentioned mind uploading and I have a THOUGHT.
A HEADCANNON (kinda) because I like ti take pieces of canon and try to fit them all together.
And I'd love your thoughts.
In Sonic Brawl, Rouge says Shadow has Maria's soul. That is super vague, but we do know that Gerald was willing to go to any lengths to save Maria.
... Do you think a backup of her brain was created and 'downloaded' into Shadow?
(I have other thoughts in tandem with this but they're all mildly sad so I just want to ask the fun one💜)

Hello, my dear!❤️✨
I’m terribly sorry for taking so long on your ask. I wanted to make sure that my answer was reasonable, as well as supplied some knowledge to the character’s purpose of creation. Essentially, I wanted to make sure that I was thorough enough to share my thoughts. I’ve even shared this question with a couple of my colleagues at the lab to hear their thoughts too. This will be a pretty lengthy, but well-educated answer.
I absolutely agree, the journal entries from Sonic Battle are vague. I feel that they are purposefully meant to be vague so that the audience could make their own conclusions on what it means. Short answer: possibly, but I lean more towards “no.” Long and complicated answer can be found under the “read more” tab (because why not😅).
We just don’t know the extent of how extreme Gerald’s plans were with discovering immortality. We’ve seen in SA2, Sonic Battles, Sonic Rivals 2 and ShTH 2005 that Gerald has been known to tamper with very questionable forces in order to achieve immortality at the cost of risking everyone and everything around him. It’s desperation, yes. He care more about Maria than anything else. I think it’s just… really up for debate.
We have a couple of ideas that need to be addressed first in order for me to share my thoughts:
1). Brain uploading requirements, zettabytes
2). Psychology/Ethics and Moral Teachings
BRAIN UPLOADING REQUIREMENTS (ZETTABYTES):
The assumption that Gerald was crafty with uploading a consciousness into a computer is a process called “Whole Brain Emulation (WBE).” This is also referred to as a “mind transfer.” This is a process in which, presumably, has the ability to scan the state of our minds and transfer into a database whether it’s postmortem (deceased) or antemortem (living).
As of now, the process of uploading one’s consciousness into an artificial body or database is a pseudoscience. This means that it’s more of a fantasy sci-fi scenario other than supplying factual results. Whole Brain Emulation would have to take into consideration of scanning layers upon layers of one’s mind and convert them into various strands of code. The human brain is made up of neurons; the human mind has about 86 billion neurons (PNAS, 2012).
In order to even begin scanning the mind, we’d need an exorbitant amount of storage space that could store not even a handful of neurons. We’d need to take into consideration of zettabytes. The human mind itself can store about 1.1950 petabytes of data in a lifetime if it was used at its fullest capacity (Houzel, 2009). That’s roughly two zettabytes. That’s like finding the Pacific Ocean with water twice! Thankfully, we live in a world where we have access to zettabytes. Zettabytes are used to store large sums of data in servers for social media sites, like Tumblr and Twitter. Being able to store all of the data into a database seem plausible, but we still run into a couple of problems.
We would not be able to get a 100% accurate reflection of Maria. If anything, we’d only be able to replicate it via artificial intelligence. We would have to take into consideration of Maria’s mannerisms and wide variety of responses to the world around her.
PSYCHOLOGY/ETHICS AND MORAL TEACHINGS:
With all of the technological advancements made in human history, the capability of transferring organic consciousness into a mechanical device is nonexistent. We might be able to replicate states of consciousness, but we would have to teach AI and code human ethics and morals. In this case, we could make an attempt in replicating Maria’s consciousness to a certain extent. We don’t know a whole lot of Maria’s characteristics other than the fact that she mattered tremendously to both Shadow and Gerald.
The problem here would be that we’d lack a ration and irrational response of decision making of the individual. What we think that we might know of a person might be different from them being right then and there as they respond to the phenomenon. If anything, we wouldn’t have Maria’s internal thinking and logic. Everything that would be coded would not be Maria’s true thoughts, it would be an assumed thought of the AI and/or programmer.
There is no guarantee that the AI will possess every thought and feeling that Maria might have had when transferring her consciousness. In order to get that, we’d have to do extensive psychological research of Maria’s response to every situation in a controlled environment. This would have to be monitored 24/7. The Maria program would have to relearn everything about herself on top of learning culturally acceptable ethics and morals depending on the environment she was raised in.
If this is the case, then Shadow would have to be habilitated into having the same—or nearly the same—mannerisms that Maria would have had if having her consciousness uploaded into his mind. And if she were still a child, then that would take longer. A child is still in the process of knowing themselves and their identity. Because we would only have a secondary source of Maria’s characteristics, we would lack internal feelings of her growing up.
CLOSING STATEMENT:
It’s safer to assume that everything that Shadow has done in his life are his own thoughts and feelings. Shadow is meant to be perceived as his own person. I’m positive that his actions are influenced by Maria and his interactions with the world around him. Most, if not all, of his actions after learning the truth from SA2 are his own. I do not believe that Maria had her consciousness uploaded into Shadow’s mind, but it is a possibility that Gerald thought about it. The problem here is that we might never know. All that we know is that Gerald would have done nearly anything, even using government funding, to save Maria (Windii, 2018).
Most of my thoughts and feelings are told through the perspective of human interactions. We don’t know enough of Shadow’s physiology in order to make a true comparison. Until we learn more about Gerald and Maria’s characteristics, I think that it’s safe to say that this is more of a hypothetical scenario that needs more information.
I hope this answers your question, my dear!❤️✨

Sonic Prime gush
No one wants to talk about this and I don'[t want to spoil people so hiding under read more
Okay so first off: I hate the prime universe. Big is ugly, Knuckles sounds weird, Amy acts weird, Shadow acts weird, Rouge isn't showing her titties and everyone sort of acts like a budget 3D children's cartoon. The way they smile, and stand it scared me it was like Sonic Boom or Pac-Man or Mega Man...
Tho I looooove the animation, sometimes they seem to move like claymation, they're actually animated like cartoon characters! Something in the games Ive only seen in Sonic CHampionship and Sonic Riders!!
Also even tho the prime universe sucks, you barely see it!
Tho.. the weird wormy story telling is like... "dude why didn't you just have a longer intro instead of jumping back to finish the intro"
Like, it persists through the whole season so like... aunno I don't get it. My friend said that Ben10 man wrote this and it's a Ben10 thing but I never watched Ben10
Oh yeah I love Sonic's voice, like... he actually sounds like Sonic for once! It's very modern but like... duh. It's not 1999 anymore (sadly) so he kinda sounds like what corporate thinks is a tiktok but oh cool there's foxy comics in Sonic's world
Tumblr media
(oh yeah! I can screeny on VLC!)
Like, aunno Sonic looks off but I also kinda love how he looks like those Y2K Archie comics like...
Tumblr media
Also, isn't it weird that Rouge was made into a good guy instead of a dubious guy?
Tumblr media
Also Rouge is the best she's been since SA2. The personality is... eh, but her mannerisms are great.
Also this smile reminds me of Robot Chicken
Tumblr media
Like did Seth Mcfarline make this? It reminds me of Toyfaire theatre titan maximum
Also it's weird the egg-o-matic isn't in the series? Like supposedly this is canon now so like.. where's the egg mobile?
It's weird how Amy is sorta like the brains (tactics) instead of Rouge or Tails or Sonic. Kinda reminds me of Sally Acorn.
Tho the AU Amys are fantastic like it's almost like she's Sonic's rival like Knuckles used to be. I love seeing them fight! I fucking hate the baby Robotnik tho.
Also it's weird that only Sonic Underground world got AU Robotnik(s) but Junghole and pirate world didn't.
Tumblr media
Like, this is all we get? Where's colonial eggman or monarch eggman... well I guess both are the same...
Where's Good Robotnik? I want to see a universe where Sonic's pals n gals are the villain and Robotnik is the force of good.
This is going to be 24 episodes and it's not (quite) Quantum Leap in that it's episodic... it's more worm spaghetti.
Also
Tumblr media
I fucking DIED when he said his name! NINE?!?!! They did it! They made him canon!!!!
Tumblr media
Well only sorta... not really... well I mean hey.
Also is this a Spider-man 2 reference... except Spider-man saves Doc Ock?
Tumblr media
(God that smear) XDDDD
Also it's weird that like, they seem to reference the classic games?
Tumblr media
but like, later Sonic remembers Knuckles in the hidden palace but the floating island doesn't seem to exist? Like is the hidden palace in green hill?
Cuz like the stupid palm tree is a reality anchor, there's the loop-de-loop, nexus of shattering, and a palm tree they "gave" to Sonic because I don't know the real superpower of teamwork?
Tumblr media
Also Sonic seems to be sorta connected the the crystal he shattered? Like the glue to the multiverse? Pretty weird.
Nine would be my favorite character if not for Rusty Rose.
Like she's the Robotniks' lap dog but she seems to be roboticized but more robocop than SatAM (which, Wildbrain is basically new DiC) and she's a formidable opponent and I love her?
She is basically mind-controlled by the Robotniks (then later Nine) so I wonder how much of her is her and how much of her is programming and how much of her is lost...
Also I wonder how long until someone makes fetish art of Nine controlling Rusty (I'm busy working on JG so not it)
Shadow seems to be lost in the void and can only communicate with Sonic when he's running fast which causes him to warp similar to Sonic CD
Sonic also warps when he touches a jewel (sorta like Sonic CD except no)
I wonder if there will be six worlds: one that focuses on each character's social problem, on the rewatch I realized Amy cared about forests in the shattering, which, the jungle episode is about Thorny Rose wanting to defend the jungle at all costs.
So is SU world about Nine needing Sonic?
is pirate world about Knuckles not thinking?
Will there be a Rouge, Robotnik and Sonic worlds?
Will Blaze or different Sonics be in the show?
Aunno!
Tumblr media
This is an interesting sight to see.
Also
Tumblr media
Rings actually act like rings???? What is this nonsense?!
Wait someone in the credits is Miles "Tails" Wyrth? XDDD okay I mean how can you not
Aunno, kinda feels like they wasted the first season stevenbombing but like... aunno it's good.
If they release it on BluRay I'll buy it (downloaded Mkvs off a website)
I do wonder how Shadow plays into the story cuz it kinda hints that only Sonic is lost and no one is "split up" but time is breaking down or something but like...
Tumblr media
They're air shoes.

How do I get into sonic ? I liked it a lot as a kid but have no clue where to start lore wise. I also don’t have the money or time to play through all the games, so how would you recommend getting into it ?
Tumblr media
SO! I have a feeling I know who this may be since I had a friend that asked me this before. But I will still help anon! It's a variety of ways to get into it: playing the original S.onic the Hedgehog game and going up, watching S.onic X or the other cartoons, watching gameplays and/or cutscenes on YouTube for the games.
Getting into the lore...the S.onic lore is kinda all over the place tbh ^^; BUT, the best way to start in my opinion is with S.onic Adventure 1 (Also known as S.onic Adventure DX) if you plan to play that. It basically begins with some main story and lore of the Sonic universe and it's pretty fun! You can either watch it or play it. Or STH2 and S.onic & Knuckles 3 are good in starting the classics to get some basics of story but there isn't a lot into it, they're introductions to Tails and Knuckles pretty much but there’s no dialogue so isn’t really entertaining to just watch.
In fact, most S.onic games do go on sale for a variety of platforms so I recommend checking what games are available for your favorite console or PC. Steam always has sales going on so most often it would be the classics, either Adventure games or the latest (Mania, Origins, Generations, Colors, Team S.onic Racing, Forces). Unfortunately some games are also pretty exclusive to the consoles they came out years ago (for example Heroes and Shadow the hedgehog are only on PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and S.onic and the Secret Rings/Black Knight is only for Wii).  But, even using an emulator can work too if you have a PC capable for running it and know how to work that out to download them for free in some sites.
But when you don't have the time or money to play the games, it's the beauty of cutscene complications on Youtube! There's already a lot out there to just sit back, relax and watch the game movie play! You can type whatever you like to watch and the scenes of the game or gameplay itself along with the plot are in it. So, I want to say watch SA1 first and see how you like it, then move onto SA2 and beyond. It's just that the modern Sonic games have more story and dialogue than what the classics have when there is none at all, they are very short and no dialogue but clear what was happening. Like Knuckles attacking Sonic and taking the Chaos Emeralds before running away or Amy following Sonic and crushing on him around before Metal Sonic kidnaps her in Sonic CD.
Now, for the cartoons. Sonic X is an anime that gives a twist to him and his friends being teleported to Earth while also having references from games like SA1 and SA2 in there, so you would appreciate it more if you played/watched those games. But I can't say it's directly to the main lore. Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog is really a silly cartoon to watch casually. Sonic SatAM is a blend of serious/adventure/silly so following him defeating Robotnik and others are more from the COMIC lore. Sonic Underground is also a completely different story/universe that follows him and his brother (Manic) and sister (Sonia) defeating Robotnik’s plans and finding their queen mother.
As for the comics if you may be thinking about trying, I DON'T recommend starting on that unless you really like or are getting deep into Sonic. That's a whole can of worms on its own but the new IDW Sonic is the way to go if you wanna read that. The old Archie Sonic is...quite a unique mess--but an interesting mess. If you’re THAT curious, watch THIS and determine how you feel lol.
Overall, it’s up to you however you’d like to dive into the Sonic media, but I would recommend just watching the cutscenes/game movie of some of the games that peak your interest first like Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, etc BEFORE you decide if you'd like to purchase any of the games and determine if it's worth it to you. I also want you to look up the main games timeline of the games so you don't mix up when they have been released just in case to avoid confusion if they reference something you may not know. Here’s a simplified video about it.
What actually started for me getting into Sonic was just watching an episode of Sonic X out of boredom when I wake up on Saturday mornings to watch 4kids for like Winx Club, Bratz, or Magical Doremi. And I. Got. HOOKED. I was determined to wake up and watch a new episode be it in order or not. And after that, I got into looking at the games for PS2 since it was my only and first console to own. I got Sonic Mega Collection Plus but REALLY wanted Sonic Heroes and things went up from there.
Hope this all helps, anon! 💙

So earlier I thought of a cool design choice that I rarely see that I wanted to somehow use and decided to make an EXE kinda character outta it cause why not?
Btw I don’t wanna go into details on how they look atm cause I’m still trying to get a clear picture in my head (besides the design choice that started this of course) but I plan on working on it tomorrow assuming nothing comes up.
I’ll get to explaining the reasoning behind their name but anyways, introducing the backstory of Savior.GIF!
During the finale of SA2, Sonic refuses to abide by the game’s programmed ending where Shadow falls to Earth which causes the game to glitch out.
The main problem this causes, that of which results in most of their problems, is that Super Sonic and an only half Super Shadow accidentally glitch together/fuse. As stated before this causes various problems.
The most problematic one is he now has a major memory issue. Their memories are all jumbled together and it’s harder to recall anything that happened before he got fused which is also part of what leads into their name.
The more recent the memory the easier it is to recall, especially if it’s when they were both in the same place. One of the last things Shadow managed to say before they fused was something along the lines of “Trying to be a savior until the very end, huh?”
Now since this is the most recent thing one of them was referred to it was the one of the first things he remembered and, well...
Eventually he unconsciously glitches their way down to Earth and wake up. He instantly feels that something isn’t right but they’re unable to pinpoint what it is. So then he tries to recall what happened and the first thing they remember is what the black one called them. Or was it him?
Why was this so confusing? Shouldn’t he know who they are? Why does he keep switching between they and he? They should know who he is, right?
He tries to remember their name but for some reason they remember being called two different names. Sonic and Shadow. But which is it? Is he Sonic or Shadow?
The question repeats in his mind until they remember what Shadow(...?) called them. He called them a savior. Savior. Maybe that’s his name?
He ends up rolling with it because trying to differentiate himself between Sonic and Shadow is too confusing for them and hurts their head.
(Now back to your regular scheduled not switching between he and they)
Btw before continuing remember that this fusion is 75% Super and 25% regular. The Emeralds did get scattered again since it’s in their programming but since one was still Super and the other was only half Super, they wound up being permanently stuck at 75% Super.
Anyways, their jumbled memory doesn’t just mess with who they remember being but it gets their trauma all jumbled too. And what’s worse than one set of traumatic memories? Two sets of traumatic memories! (btw you can’t srsly tell me Sonic doesn’t have some amount of trauma, okay?)
Even worse is the fact that those memories get jumbled together which causes them to sometimes randomly lash out in fear of being hurt. It wouldn’t be as serious a problem if it weren’t the fact that they’re mostly Super which automatically makes them stronger than normal. An attempt to push someone away could end up making them go flying across the room. They end up accidentally putting people in the hospital because of this. :(
Thankfully they don’t react as badly to their friends once they start to recall them, which is something that happens pretty fast after they encounter each other.
Also, despite their weird appearance, Tails actually suspects they might be Sonic or Shadow to some degree due to looking mostly Super. Although he does have trouble figuring it out for a little while cause he thinks that it’s Shadow at first before eventually reaching the conclusion that this is somehow both of them.
Speaking of their appearance, it’s part of why I decided on making them Savior.GIF instead of Savior.EXE. I decided that their appearance probably fluctuates to a degree and loops like a GIF hence the GIF part. I also just felt like being more creative by making them something other than an EXE since it’s a bit overused (to be fair most people don’t know they can use something besides EXE sooo). Still gonna tag it as a Sonic.EXE AU though.
Poor Savior.GIF has major memory issues and has trouble figuring out if they should refer to themself by “he” or “they” for awhile before settling on “they”. They don’t mind being referred to as a he though! They just had trouble on what to mainly refer themselves as. I guess what I’m saying is that Savior.GIF is has They/Them and He/Him pronouns.
Almost forgot to mention that their personality is either mostly Sonic, mostly Shadow, or a bit of both but that’s just me simplifying it. Most of the time they’re a bit of both but certain aspects of Sonic and Shadow will still show.
So yeah, that’s Savior.GIF’s backstory plus some additional info! My guy’s main character trait is that they fucking hates their memory with a burning passion for being so jumbled and confusing.
