" The keyword was ‘inconspicuous’, if no one followed you while dressed like that, it’d be a miracle. " hissed Akio — @kagami--uchiha
Concealed behind a decorative mask of porcelain, Kazuo tucked away a wide, shit-eating grin at Akio's bemused frown. " No one gives a shit to see an ANBU operative wandering the streets, my lord. It's practically a staple in Kiri, " he does nothing to hide away the chuckle spilling from his lips.
" Even with warning, they're helpless against me, you know this. " All that smoldering pride burning from his conceit. Whether he lived or died, Kazuo had his thrill of simply performing, which hardly bode well with Akio's fretting over his wellbeing. To that, the taller man rested a comforting, rough-skinned hand on that delicately silk-dressed shoulder and massaged into the tension.
" Will you forgive me this time, Akio-heika? "

some recurring words and callbacks in golden kamuy that didn't necessarily get translated consistently
sugimoto says 出た! deta! ("there it is!") or similar whenever citatap comes up (deta, demashita, de~ta~). also, it seems that even though asirpa says "citatap" properly with the katakana "pu" made small so you know it's acting as a final "p" sound, like チタタㇷ゚, sugimoto and other sisam tend to say "citatapu," with the katakana "pu" at full size, like チタタプ, showing their mispronunciation. (after i noticed this, i saw that noda-sensei had confirmed it in an interview, but i forget which one.)
my favorite recurring bit: when sugimoto does something nice for someone (e.g. offering his blanket to henmi kazuo) and they think something like, "he's so nice!" the line they're thinking is 優しい "yasashii" (kind, gentle). sugimoto gets called yasashii a few more times as well. in a small addition to volume 24, chapter 234, boutarou calls sugimoto yasashii, referring to him throwing people off the boat to save them from being shot by boutarou. and sugimoto's father calls him yasashii on his deathbed. i love the sugimoto who everyone agrees is so nice.
the word 戦友 senyuu ("war buddy, fellow soldier, comrade in arms") is omnipresent. i think it gets used in the sentimental "war buddy" sense just as often as it gets used in the drier "fellow soldier" sense, so it has been translated variously depending on the context. tsurumi uses it frequently to refer to fallen comrades as well as living "war buddies" like tsukishima. (he uses it with great emotional weight in this moment in chapter 150... EH scans' translated version here.) tsukishima uses it when yelling at ogata for killing maeyama in chapter 78, and ogata scoffs at it. but ogata himself uses senyuu, maybe in an ironic sense, to refer to the 3 men he thinks tanigaki killed (chapter 111) and also wryly to tanigaki himself (chapter 113). and the narrative refers to ilya as vasily's senyuu.
opposite of a recurrence: several distinct but similar words meaning "soldier" are translated as "soldier" because english doesn't have enough other options. (兵士 heishi, 兵隊 heitai, 軍人 gunjin all appear; there is also the more specific 屯田兵 tondenhei, meaning colonizer or agricultural soldier)
shiraishi gets called タコ坊主 takobouzu (literally tako "octopus" + bouzu "monk, guy with a shaved head," but if you yell it at someone, it means roughly "you bald idiot") by ienaga when she was about to get blown up by his grenade and by kiroranke when he told shiraishi not to run from the bear and he ran anyway. i kept waiting for a third instance to round out the list, but there is none.
when shiraishi introduces himself to pretty women (ienaga then inkarmat), he says 独身で彼女はいません!! dokushin de kanojo ha imasen!! meaning "i'm single and don't have a girlfriend!!" EH scans didn't include that redundancy in their translation, but i think the redundancy is funny. this is another entry where it happened twice and a third never cropped up.
shiraishi often gets called 役立たず yakutatazu (役に立つ yaku ni tatsu means "to be of use," so yakutatazu means "being of no use" or "useless") by sugimoto and asirpa. also, sugimoto calls himself yakutatazu when fighting gansoku on the ice and again after boutarou takes asirpa from him in the brewery.
shiraishi calls pretty much everyone he meets -chan. even ogata-chan and koito-chan (including at their first meeting when koito was clearly an enemy). i get the sense that he does it as part of his overly friendly and teasing nature. he's the one who named vasily "zukin-chan" (hood guy). i think the only one who ever calls him "shiraishi-chan" in return is ishikawa takuboku. but shiraishi won't call people -chan if he doesn't feel like it. (i'm pretty sure he never calls sugimoto sugimoto-chan; and he calls boutarou kaizoku-chan [pirate-chan] once or twice but mostly just calls him boutarou.)

Nine people you'd like to get to know better
@dummerjan Thank you so much for tagging me! I spy lots of media in German in your answers, intrigued 👀
Tonight is a tag night for me, sorry in advance for the spam, everyone 😸
3 ships
1. KinnPorsche (from *shocking* KinnPorsche The Series) - it would be unforgivable for me not to mention the source of my hypefixation for over a year now. They got me back into writing fanfiction after almost 10 years 😫, I love them your honor💚
2. Victuuri (from Yuuri! On Ice) - the amount of fanfiction I read about these two sweethearts in high school is insane! *whispers* I was even close to writing something, but I never did. I just think their love story is so sweet and I honestly related to Yuuri so much as an ex-athlete in an individual sport. I will always treasure them💚
3. JWDS (Joo Won and Dong Sik from Beyond Evil) - this one is 100% on @b1uetrees and her amazing fanfiction and nagging me to watch and I feel thankful to her because oh boy... The middle-aged blorbo going through it meets the uptight-turned-self-sacraficing blorbo who's also going through it. And the fanfiction is superb!
First ship
I honestly don't recall this with much pride. But I was a 12 year old in 1D fandom, on Twitter, no critical thinking developed, and I just jumped on Larry bandwagon. Today, I avoid rp ships bc it honestly got too toxic for me on Twitter in 2014😅 (but hey, at least we have my first fanfiction attempt with so many grammar mistakes to laugh about!)
Last song
Currently reading
Kazuo Ishiguro - Klara and the Sun
One of the reasons I was drawn to it besides the topic was 100% that it has my name in the title🤭.
Last movie
Dune: Part Two
Currently Craving
I would honestly love a cake rn, maybe with strawberries 🍓
no pressure tags: @b1uetrees @boysbeloving @vanillalipstick66 @blingblingbubbles @nuwildcat @crystallinemoonlight @mortimerlatrice @lady-guts @imharmlessipromise
to avoid any confusion, this is @artpo from my main :D

I have some little tidbits to share about Cutie Honey episode 20: “The Forgotten Legendary City." Check it out below!
Screenwriter: Susumu Takaku
Art Director: Eiji Ito
Animation Director: Kazuo Komatsubara
Director: Hiroshi Shidara
Tumblr media
Augustus Le Plongeon introduced his idea of a lost continent called "Mu" after investigations of the Maya ruins in Yucatán. You can read more about it here.
This episode also mentions a place called New Dolema Island (ニュードレマ島) which I'm assuming is a play on New Caledonia (ニューカレドニア).
Tumblr media
According to the 1974 January issue of TV Magazine, Honey really loves anmitsu and chocolate.
Anmitsu is a traditional Japanese cold jelly dessert, topped with fruits, dango, bean paste, ice cream and a dark colored syrup. Considering how much Honey enjoys chocolate, it’s not surprising she would be carrying around a bar of it during her travels. That being said, she shouldn’t have given chocolate to those baby monkeys. It’s not good for them!
Tumblr media
The design for Crocodile Claw appears to be inspired by Ogon Bat. Ogon Bat was a superhero created by Suzuki Ichiro and Takeo Nagamatsu back in the 1930’s. This Japanese superhero made his debut in kamishibai, a type of street storytelling, in which a narrator tells a story with occupying images. Despite being a superhero, Ogon Bat evokes a very ghoulish appearance with his skull-like face and a Dracula-like cloak.
Tumblr media
Honey transforms herself into a female version of Tarzan, known as Onna Tarzan or “Lady Tarzan.” Eiko Masuyama even does her own imitation of Johnny Weissmuller’s famous “Tarzan yell.”
Go Nagai has included female versions of Tarzan in a few of his works, including his extremely raunchy manga, Kekko Kamen.
Tumblr media
There are at least two different versions of this episode: one where the Cutie Honey logo appears during a scene transition (after the Hayami guys ogle Honey in her Tarzan outfit) and one where it doesn't. The logo-less version has appeared on early home video releases and even the French dub. The version with the logo appears on the 2004 DVD remaster.

Hi...if you don't mind me asking, who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before...... Thanks....
Hi! Thanks for asking! The obvious answer would be the ships I've written fics for, but I'm going to limit this to ships I've never written just to make things interesting.
Count Olaf/Kit Snicket and Lemony Snicket/Beatrice Baudelaire (A Series of Unfortunate Events)
I've always been a huge fan, as far back as I can remember, of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I could never get into the TV series and I heard the show makes some changes to canon, but the implied, subtextual relationship between Olaf and Kit Snicket that ends in betrayal, arson, and intergenerational trauma is really Gothic and tragic in a way I love. Lemony Snicket's unrequited love for Beatrice Baudelaire and the tragedy that befalls the Baudelaire family fascinates me.
Jamie Lannister/Brienne of Tarth (A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones)
I love how they are foils to each other, and I think if they existed in any other universe they could bring the best out of each other. These two would be really good for AUs.
Akashi Seijuurou/Furihata Kouki (Kuroko no Basket)
Fun fact! I first ended up on Tumblr way back when to follow KnB writers and artists. This ship started off as a total crackship for me until the fandom fleshed it out, and then AkaFuri became my favorite Kuroko no Basket ship. Again a study in contrasts: Furihata struggles with anxiety while Akashi is basically a mini-politician, but they complement each other well.
Axl/Beatrice (The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro)
I think I've mentioned Kazuo Ishiguro in another ask before, but I'm a big fan. The Buried Giant takes place in Arthurian Britain, where everyone is suffering under a curse that takes away long-term memories, and Axl and Beatrice are an old couple that go on a journey in search of a son they don't remember. This book raises a lot of questions about whether it's better to forgive and forget in old relationships or whether it's better to remember, but Axl and Beatrice's love for each other is beautiful.
Bon (Kikuhiko or the 8th Yakumo Yurakutei)/Sukeroku (Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu)
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu ends in tragedy and the final twist at the very end of S2 made me go "Seriously? I'm just going to pretend that never happened" (lmao if you've seen if you'll know exactly what I'm talking about). If you haven't seen it, SGRS is about intergenerational trauma. The central character, Bon or later Kikuhiko, a rakugo performer born in the 1920s, struggles with societally-enforced homophobia and strict gender roles his entire life, and it's clear he was in love with his best friend and fellow rakugo performer Sukeroku, the definition of "work hard, play hard." Whether it was reciprocated canonically is up for debate, but Bon later ends up raising Sukeroku's daughter Konatsu alone. Bon's anger and a life of repression end up making him lash out at himself and his friends and family in his old age, and thinking about where he went wrong with Sukeroku and how tragic it is makes them such a great ship. I think he's one of most fully fleshed out characters I've seen in an anime, period. Because of the final twist at the end of S2, I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, but the rest of the show is great.

Closed starter — @kagami--uchiha
Well into the Era of Peace, it was not often did Kazuo call upon Kagami for his servitude. He was not a man who abused his power over others, and he made that well known with the man whenever he had signed the contract.
However, the times that he did call, he did not waste the Uchiha's time with small talk nor useless cajoling. Per binding agreement, he was owed a body and his contacts made him acutely aware that he may not have access this body for all too long, should he let him slip his mind.
Not that Kagami left his mind much. After all, he is the only one who was in blood debt to him.
Waiting outside Akio's lavish courtyard, the tall Kirin awaited for his loyal puppet to appear, scroll in his hand ready to delegate instructions.

Nickname: uhhh 🤔
Sign: Cancer
Height: 5'5"
Last thing I googled: Janelle Monae (I just watched Glass Onion ok)
Song stuck in my head: Veteran of the Psychic Wars - Blue Oyster Cult
Amount of Sleep: 8-9 sleeps pls
Dream Job: IDK, honestly. I've done various versions of my "dream job" over the years and they all still drained me and left me with burn out. I think I'm past the point where I think there is one thing I can do forever without getting tired of it, unless I radically change my relationship to the concept of work itself. It's a process. 🤷‍♀️
Wearing: Black and grey striped sweater, leggings, socks.
Movies/Books that Summarize You: I don't think any summarize me, but I'm forever a simp for the original Star Wars trilogy, and the books of A Song of Ice and Fire are 👌 I also think House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski is playful with the very concept of fiction in a way that has appealed to me for like 20 years at this point. Also it's just a fun ghost story.
Favorite Song: At the moment? *looks at Spotify* Uhhhhh how about Angels Painted Red by Riots and Jetpacks.
Instrument: The Armenian duduk
Aesthetic: I'm just waiting for emo to come back, to be perfectly honest
Favorite Author: Margaret Atwood, Kazuo Ishiguro
Random Fun Fact: I'd be legally blind if not for corrective lenses.

It’s a new year, and the arm of the clock at twelve demarcates the countries of the past and future.
The theme for Lights on Park Ave Round 41 is turning point. Here are the prompts:
Cheryl realizing she has to start living in Jean-Marc Vallée’s Wild
A quote about turning points being clear in hindsight from The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
Celine telling Jesse that he’ll miss his flight home and Jesse staying anyway despite the consequences in Richard Linklater’s Before Sunset
A quote accompanying a gifset where Joe explains why he decides to break the cycle from Rian Johnson’s Looper
Tony interrogating Steve about his parents’ deaths in Captain America: Civil War
Different moments in 616 when Steve and Tony reflect on the day that the Avengers found Steve in the ice
Christine calling her mother, with whom she had a strained relationship, after leaving for college in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird
A quote about taking a step forward because there’s no other option from The White Book by Han Kang
A quote about not being able to go back because the hurts are too deep to be mended from Peter Jackson’s Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King
Round 41 will end on January 31, 11:59 PM ET (what time is that for me?).
As always, you’re free to jump in whenever you’d like during the round, a wide variety of work types is accepted, and there are no minimum work requirements. Unfinished works and works for other fandom events are allowed. You can find more information about Lights on Park Ave and the participation guidelines here.

Nothing like getting a popsicle and getting your tongue stuck, Gav’s Spongebob pop mocks him cruelly.  Ian’s hands are occupied between his ice cream and helping Kazuo, who’s down to zero hands after he fell and broke his wrist right after Ian told him to stop chasing pigeons.  Currently, he’s fighting the urge to be wildly inappropriate with his popsicle.
