Omg a post about that episode where Aang is not treated as the "bad guy" for shipping reasons and other nonsense, finally
Aang wasn't forcing his beliefs onto Katara, he was just drawing his pov from his beliefs and personal experiences
"Katara needed the whole trip to find her own way. Aang should had been understanding of the needs of Katara."
He did

I wanna talk about all my fav ATLA ships cuz being a multishipper can suck sometimes
I wanna look at ship tags and not see hate for another ship in them
SPREAD THE LOVE
KatAang: Classic friends to lovers. Couples who commit ecoterrorism together stay together
TAang: She was a punk He did ballet what more can I say. But like actually they're so fun to analyze with what we have in canon, they legit give soulmate vibes.
ZuTara: SHOT THROUGH THE HEART another fun one to analyze, opposites attract/enemies to lovers it's a good time
KaToph: They're defined by overcoming their "weaknesses" Katara fought for her right to be a master despite her gender and became one of the most powerful benders because of her will to fight. Toph literally invented a whole new bending style BECAUSE of her blindness. Love them
MaiLee: Bad bitches deserve bad bitches, we love a sunshine and sunshine protector. They're fighting styles compliment each other as do their personalities
MaiKo: 'I love Zuko more than I fear you" will never not be the hardest line in the show. *doesn't care she got pickles* "HOW FUCKING DARE YOU SHE SAID NO PICKLES"
Ty Luki: I just want Suki to show TyLee the ropes of being a kyoshi warrior. The have so much they can teach each other also if you like the Airbender! TyLee headcanon there's something poetic about her unlocking her powers with kyoshi's fans
YueTara: MOON AND OCEAN NEED I SAY MORE
ZUe (I actually don't know their ship name) we in rare pair hell but SUN AND MOON NEED I SAY MORE also applies to Yue x Azula you guys come up with the coolest scenarios that put the either fire sibling in the north pole, this fandom is so creative
ZuKKi: Let Sokka pull lol but actually a King and His Guard and King and his Ambassador, it's like Sukka is great but make it better
Mai TyLee and Suki should be a bigger ship cuz I swear I'm the only one that sees it (help me name them)
Tell me about your favorite ATLA ships I freaking love these characters and I love when they love each other

ATLA x Omegaverse AU
Part 1 | Part 2
I've been thinking about an omegaverse atla au a lot recently, so I'm gonna vent about it cuz it's getting tiring just to have it spiralling in my head ngl
So, the only thing that I need to mention now it's that the standard age at which someone presents is around 13 to 14 years old. Knowing that, lets talk about the main characters.
Aang (12) would be unpresented by the time of the show. Also, I don't believe that being the avatar makes him an alpha perse. I mean, there's a possibility he presents as one (but he could also be a beta), and it wouldn't have anything to do with his avatar status (historically there could be a higher rate of avatars being alphas/betas, but there are some important exceptions... iykwim). Well, I think he'd present at age 13 almost 14.
Katara (14) is one of the characters that confuses me the most in this aspect, but just to add fuel to her fury and her personality, I'll make her an omega, not the kind that rejects her nature but the kind that embraces it and doesn't see it as something that makes her inferior or helpless. Katara would fight against the life society wants to impose on her in the same way she does in canon, maybe even more. She would resent the people who doesn't respect her because of her gender (just make it double), and at some point, she'd get frustrated about it, but she would think that hating herself would mean letting them win. About her presentation, there's two option: 1. She presented some months before they found Aang, 2. She presented during the first months they were traveling to the NWT (in this case, I think the ideal place would've been Kyoshi Island, because there's people able to take care of her there).
Sokka (15) would be an alpha, he probably presented after Hakoda left (14), he fits the type and the stereotypical personality at the beginning of the show. But I think he would get over it sooner rather than later and he would learnt to respect and don't underestimate betas and omegas just based on their nature. Also, I think that Sokka would scent the Gaang to protect them and particularly to cover Katara's scent as they travel or run away from trouble.
Toph (12) would be unpresented by the time of the show. She'd present as an alpha some time after the end of the war (13). There's not a lot to explain here (talking about her at that age, except for the fact that even during her time with the Gaang, she probably hated Sokka's essence, just as an early hint about her gender). I consider that there's a lot to discuss about her as an adult and how she managed her relationships, but that's a discussion for another time.
Zuko (16) would be an omega, and also a late bloomer, probably presented a couple of years after his banishment (15).. Zuko would be determined to hide his true nature under any circumstances, letting only his Uncle know about it. Ozai would've been informed that his son is a beta, which was already a disappointment for the Royal Family (historically alphas), but it wasn't nearly as negative as being reduced to be treated as an omega. Zuko would end up causing himself a lot of damage in order to disguise as a beta, either by using too many suppressants or other medications, or even hurting himself physically and mentally. He would stop hiding he's an omega after joining the Gaang but It'll be complicated, since he'd be distressed all the time and even Aang and Toph would be able to notice (their senses are not totally develop, so it'll be kinda alarming).
Suki (15) would be a beta, presented at 14. In her case, the characteristics of its gender would be especially helpful to mediate conflict or get out of it. The scent of a beta has calming effects in both alphas and omegas, so she would use it with her friends, or even in battle, to make her opponents lose focus, particularly if their driven by rage. The fans are particularly helpful for that.
Azula (14) would present early as an alpha (12/13). At that age, one of the traits she would manifest the most is assuming the position of head of the pact with her friends, she'd probably scent them with the intention of establishing superiority and control over them. In this context, Mai would be a beta and Ty Lee an omega or a beta as well.
That's all for now, I still have some things in mind for this, but I'll share that later, and if you have questions, I'll be happy to answer!

I don’t get it when ppl say Katara’s feelings for Aang are never shown, voiced etc… like ummm what show did you watch cuz Katara’s massive crush on Aang was the most obvious thing ever. She was jealous of him paying attention to girls that weren’t her as early as book 1 episode 4, she was giving him cheek kisses as early as book 1 episode 15 and this was immediately following the Fortuneteller episode where she was depicted as being pretty open and in awe of the idea of marrying and having children with Aang specifically. She literally told him she loved him in book 2 episode 1, and this was not familial/platonic love… she is not speaking about anyone in this scene other than herself. She is the one concerned and upset when she sees him in the avatar state, not anyone else including Sokka. This is about her feelings for him. “You have to understand, for the people who love you, watching you be in that much rage and pain is really scary.” Sokka doesn’t feel like this, lol. She does, because she loves Aang deeply and beyond simple friendship. So it’s no shock that immediately after this episode, she suggests kissing him for the first time on the mouth, and is so angry and upset when she thinks he doesn’t feel the same. She just used the whole cave thing as an excuse to make a move. Just like how she used waterbending as an excuse to touch him when he didn’t have his shirt on at the beginning of the episode 😭 she was not slick with it fr

i feel like a lot of Discourse (read: fandom wank) happens in places that have forgotten or never learned the death of the author theory
(which i know is not sacrosanct but it is very useful for handling fandom spaces, particularly fraught ones)
for those who don't know, the death of the author theory goes like this: as far as the work is concerned, the author dropped dead the second that the final word was published, and thus cannot comment, object to, clarify, or expand on anything that is not on the page.
my understanding is that it's most strictly used to mean that that the author's interpretation of the work doesn't matter, but can be expanded to state that nothing which is not on the page matters. imo, the expanded definition is particularly useful for fandoms and needs to be adopted on a larger scale.
because what it means is this:
it doesn't matter what the creator(s) intended. it doesn't matter what they said in an interview. it doesn't matter what the actors think, it doesn't matter what supplemental materials say or imply, even if they're signed off on by the creator(s). it doesn't matter if everyone involved in making it hates your interpretation and says that it's wrong.
they don't get to say that it's wrong. they dropped dead the second the last episode/book ended. their interpretation is simply one more in a vast sea of others.
listen to me, fandom spaces. i am taking your face in both of my hands. embrace the death of the author. you will no longer be bound to the (possibly fickle) words of the creator(s), your interpretation can no longer be the wrong one. if the text can be used to support it in any way, even twisty ways, it's valid. you don't have to jump through hoops to defend it against haters who say you're wrong.
the death of the author. open your heart to it. live it. be free.

From the beginning it was clear that katara heroized aang.
She literally defended him from the fisherman and called him the bravest person she knew.
And even when she had a crush on jet she sideways said aang is great because he is the avatar
I love that she got to know Aang as himself before she knew he was the Avatar. Aang proved himself as brave and caring before it was revealed he was supposed to save the world. He proves to Katara he's the right person to carry that responsibility in the very first episode, Katara doesn't have hope in the Avatar, she has hope in Aang. It's not "I believe the Avatar can save the world" no, it's "I believe AANG can save the world" and that sums up Katara's feelings fo Aang. No one believed in Aang more than Katara and no one had more of an impact on Aang than Katara.
I see some Kataang criticisers say Aang idolises Katara and loves the version of her he built in his head, and not the real her. And I'm baffled. Yes, Aang does idolise Katara but Katara idolises Aang too. Because they know each other so well. These two have seen each other at their worst and still loved each other because they knew exactly who they were on the inside. They have enormous faith and belief in one another, they're each other's biggest supporter and I don't get how you can watch the whole show and not see that.
How can you watch the show and think Aang doesn't like the raw and true Katara? Aang saw Katara jealous (The water bending scroll), vindictive (Lake Laogai), petty (The chase), angry (The waterbending master), childish (The great divide), vengeful (The Sothern raiders), spiteful (The runaway) and still loved her with all of his heart because he knows Katara. He loves her for who she is.
And its the same with Katara. She saw Aang angry (The desert) hopeless (The serpent's pass), dismissive (The northern air temple), insecure (Bato of the water tribe), ashamed (The Awakening), vengeful (The Desert), careless (the deserter) and stood by his side and supported him.
I'm sorry, but how can you watch these two throughout the show and think they don't accept each other as they both are. These two are the perfect example of a healthy relationship where one is not afraid to be themselves or show their dark side because they know the other will not judge them or love them any less.
