Can you recommend some media with jonsa vibes?
Hmm, the only thing coming to mind is the relationship between Uhtred and Aethelflaed in The Last Kingdom? I know someone made a sort of slideshow comparison between them and Jonsa, though I can't find it at the moment. I'd say there's a closer show-verse parallel than book-verse parallel, but still worth checking out maybe.
Tumblr media
Otherwise, I don't really have any other TV or movies... I can give you some music and artwork though:
Tumblr media
Silent Noon, John Byam Lison Shaw
Tumblr media
Vampyre II, Edvard Munch
I mostly listen to a lot of instrumental stuff when I'm writing my fics, but here's lyric songs I also listen to that give me Jonsa vibes:
Hard Road, Johnny Flynn
This always makes me think of Sansa as 'the girl in grey', making her way towards Jon at the Wall. It comes in with these marching drums in the latter half which just really amps it up in a great way, imo. It feels motivational — yes, it's a hard road, but she keeps going.
This is my favourite verse:
She knows how and she knows when She's born to die and live and again She goes from moor to build a nest She knows the dance that burns her best From the ashes, fair to share The purest sounds to leaden heads Sung from her breast and bends the old trees Wing-ed wind songs sung so holy
I just feel it speaks to the Sansa-Alayne arc in a really cool way — there's the symbolic 'death' of Sansa, the whole "Sansa Stark went up the mountain, but Alayne Stone is coming down," but then the inevitable 'rebirth' of Sansa. There's some lovely bird imagery here which I strongly associate with Sansa, as well as singing and dancing. Plus there's the mention of burning and ashes, which speaks to Melisandre's prophecy of "a girl as grey as ash." At least I think so!
Black is the Colour, Isobel Anderson & Ruby Colley
Ohhh love this one — it's so haunting! I've been saving this song to include in either the 3rd or final chapter of My Maid of Stone, though with some slightly altered lyrics... mainly switching black for red.
The mention of "the gentlest hands" is very Jonsa to me, considering I think 'gentleness' in a lady is a bit of a romantic ideal for Jon and well, "Sansa silenced the wolf with a gentle hand to the head."
Song to the Siren, Wolf Alice
This is a cover of Tim Buckley's original, but I probably do prefer this version? I suppose this one really speaks to the romantic longing in both Jon and Sansa, which I don't believe can be resolved except with each other. There's something tender, a bit bruised and uncertain, about the speaker in this song, who "shies from the sorrow," who is constantly questioning, "puzzled as the oyster." I think you find this questioning in Sansa and Jon quite a bit, questioning what they want, what they desire, have always desired (LOVE) etc.
I mean, what they both wouldn't give to hear this call:
Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you
Narratively speaking, we as readers are also waiting, waiting for romantic resolution for these two romantic characters. Because come on, it's got to come to a head somehow! And with each other ;)
Thanks for the ask! I hope this sort of answered it?

Speaking of antisemitism and JD, it’s so bizarre you don’t think him being BFF with Manson isn’t an issue. I’d recommend Evans documentary, phoenix rising. It’s hard to watch. There is a support group for his victims, a lot of his ex’s and a male personal assistant who was witness to the abuse on occasion and was made to film/take part in it, who spoke out at great risk to himself and his career. At least 11 more women have come forward after she spoke out with a string of allegations of abuse at Manson's hands, similar stories, all agree on his obsession with hitler, to the extent he asks his girlfriends to buy Nazi memorabilia, and cut Esme Bianco with a Nazi knife and whipped her, posted the photos online. She has extensive photographic evidence. ( https://www.timesofisrael.com/esme-bianco-accuses-marilyn-manson-of-sexual-abuse-threats-with-nazi-knife/amp/ ). The man’s used Nazi imagery on stage in front of thousands of people for gods sake he’s just passed it off as doing it ironically. The worst part of the documentary for me, was Evan sobbing, whilst she recounts how when she tried to leave him, he lured her back saying he was cutting himself for every time she didn’t pick up the phone, when she caved he tied her up and tortured her. He beat her with a Nazi whip from the holocaust to punish her, she’s Jewish. ( https://eu.usatoday.com/story/life/health-wellness/2022/03/16/evan-rachel-wood-talks-marilyn-manson-antisemitism-trauma/6984668001/ ). He made this man the godfather of his baby girl. He knew who he was because everybody close to him did, that dark persona is literally just his actual persona it’s not like he was hiding. They’re close enough to have matching tattoos. He has Nazi memorabilia, gas canisters that were used to murder people, all over his house ( https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/marilyn-manson-key-takeaways-1257082/amp/ ) that he says JD has been to a lot, paints swastika’s etc, they tried to buy hitlers gun together ( https://rockcelebrities.net/the-story-of-marilyn-mansons-mission-to-find-hitlers-gun-with-johnny-depp/ ). If JD wasn’t antisemitic he wouldn’t be so close friends with Manson. Period, and you lot will really be like “this is irrelevant, it doesn’t matter who he associated with 😌” It is, BFFs suing their victims for deformation, both pieces of shit, both raging misogynists. Both MM and JD literally hate you.
(tw: antisemitism & descriptions of abuse in links)
I've never really been interested in MM so I had no idea about any of this, thank you for pointing it out. He's a vile man, to put it mildly.
This is incredibly uncomfortable and upsetting to read, I barely have the words to give a full response to this.

The members of the Long Island trio, Phil Firetog (Vocalist/Guitarist), Johnny “Pots” Potocnik (Drummer) & Liam Gordon (Bassist) have entertained the industry’s toughest critics & built a loyal fan base since the trio’s formation in 2015.
Each are seasoned, diversely talented musicians who blend their individual and distinct styles to craft a sound that is truly rare. Singer/Songwriter Phil Firetog develops music that is rich and intricate and spans the spectrum from clean to grit and ambient to rocking by mastering acoustic guitars with pedals and distorted amps. Johnny “Pots” Potocnik & Liam Gordon fill the spaces with complex & rhythmic grooves, intriguing listeners while they connect on another level outside the lyrical storytelling.

Why I Ship Johnny/Female V: Part 2
[Part 1] [Part 2]
This is Part 2 of my essay series on why I ship Johnny and female V. Back in part 1, I covered why I ship female V specifically with Johnny and not male V, as well as some thoughts on Johnny’s sexuality. This time, I’m looking at Johnny himself. (Content warning: there is some discussion of rape and how rape is handled in fiction.)
Johnny, ambiguity and age-old romantic tropes
Look, I’m just going to come out and say this: part of my interest in this ship is thirsting over Johnny. And when I’m interested in something, whether it’s an intellectual, creative or sexual interest, I like to do what I always do – analyse it to death. So what is it about the actor, the performance and the character that makes Johnny as attractive as he is?
Keanu Reeves himself, obviously, can’t be ignored here. He has a gorgeous face and voice, but crucially, he’s distinctively beautiful. Obviously, everyone has the right to be into what they’re into, and I don’t want to shame anyone for their tastes. But I do not understand people who are into the blandly beautiful. Sure, there’s nothing wrong about, let’s say, Chris Evans. But what’s right about him? Where are the snags that catch your attention and hold it? Where’s the life?
Reeves, meanwhile, is attractive because he’s unusual. He has long, dark hair, but he’s regularly photographed at public events with it mussed-up. He has a chiselled face, but his cheekbones are high enough that he looks alien. He has all the charisma of any Hollywood actor, but, whether this is him as he is or an especially well-calculated image choice, it comes off as genuine. When watching interviews with him, you feel less in the presence of a star and more an especially fascinating stranger at a party, one who, despite bursting with witticisms and stories, somehow wants to talk to you most of all.
There’s also an element of age ambiguity here. Reeves is in his fifties, and while age suits his looks better than youth did, it shows. Meanwhile, Johnny the character is in his thirties when he dies, and to match this, the animators smooth out Reeves’ face and darken his beard. They also give Johnny the (unrealistic but glorious) organic arms of a dedicated bodybuilder. So what Johnny ends up with is the presence, confidence and charisma of an older guy, combined with the physicality of someone younger. It’s potent, to say the least. It also adds to Johnny’s uncanniness as a character. He’s caught between maturity and youth, life and death, humanity and machine; he’s hard to pinpoint no matter where you look. And whether you express this academia-style, as, ‘the gothic associates uncanniness with sexuality’, or internet-style,  as, ‘I’m a monster/robotfucker’, this is, as the kids say, pretty damn hot.
This uncanniness, as well as Reeves’ looks and performance, also offset some of the more unlikeable aspects of Johnny’s personality. This is best illustrated by the concept art created for Johnny before Reeves was brought on board. (Found courtesy of the lovely folks at r/LowSodiumCyberpunk.)
Tumblr media
As you can see, they had a lot of Johnny’s look already nailed down. But this makes the differences all the more startling. This Johnny looks like he’s been dragged through the wringer. His hair is messier, and he seems to be getting premature wrinkles and balding. He’s strung-out, with a genuinely hopeless cast to his face. His look is also a lot more dated. While our Johnny has elements of the old rocker, the jean jacket, bandana, V-necked black jumper and aviators clipped to the tank top root this Johnny inescapably in 1980s music and fashion.
Why is all this relevant to shipping Johnny with V? Partially because I’m shallow, I’m not going to lie. But it’s also because making Johnny look like this would have made him much more obviously an intrusion. A guy dressed like this next to 2077’s booty shorts and space buns is like a ghost in a ballgown next to a woman in jeans. He’s not just out of time; he’s been irrevocably left behind. Johnny’s face here also has much less in the way of possibility. Where our Johnny says, ‘maybe your life would be better if you listened to me’, this Johnny screams, ‘my way is hopeless, but you can’t ignore it’. It’s leaning much more into the tragic aspects of Johnny’s character and of the genre of cyberpunk. And don’t get me wrong – I love that artwork, and think that angle would be an interesting artistic choice.
But making Johnny a tragic intrusion like this removes the element of seduction, so to speak, from his character. What makes Johnny attractive, ideologically, sexually and romantically, is a balance of certainty and uncertainty. On the surface, he’s passionately, blazingly certain of his politics, his music and himself. If you’re taking a leap of faith, whether that’s fighting against the corpos that rule your life or hopping into bed with an engram, what draws you to it is the kind of confidence that makes you doubt your own certainties. Yet too much of that can be off-putting. Nobody wants a partner who’s so cocksure (pardon the pun) that they don’t listen to what you want, and nobody wants a political ally who’s gone so far into their own rhetoric that they can’t convince those outside it.
Therefore, the common factor across all the ways Reeves’ looks impact our perception of Johnny is the balancing of two seemingly opposing things. Keep that in mind, because it only gets more relevant the deeper into this ship, and Johnny’s attractiveness, we go.
Of course, Reeves’ looks are far from the only thing he brings to the table. His acting, across body language, facial expressions and voice acting, is incredible. I want to take a look at his voice acting, as well as his voice generally, first.
I’m not familiar enough with the subtleties of American accents to pinpoint why, but Reeves’ accent sounds slightly different to the more generic accents of other famous actors. Perhaps it’s because he’s Canadian. Either way, his consonants are less harsh on the ear than other A-list actors, his vowels less elongated. He speaks slowly, sounding as if he just woke up. His voice is mellow and soothing; it’s the sort of sound you could take a bath in.
(For reference purposes, I’m listening to this Cyberpunk trailer as I write this, as well as, um, this video that I’ve watched far too many times. XD)
Obviously, to play Johnny he has to modify that laid-back aspect of his voice. But it’s interesting how his natural voice and his ‘Johnny’ voice bounce off each other. Reeves is able to pull off a much more belligerent Johnny than many actors could, precisely because of that laid-back quality his natural voice has. Think of that ‘impressive cock’ line. It’s made as funny as it is because of the total lack of shame in how Reeves delivers it. But in the mouth of an actor like, let’s say, Robert Downey Jr, that level of shamelessness would just come off as annoying. Reeves uses his natural voice to amp up Johnny’s, for lack of a better word, Chad-ness, far beyond the place another actor could manage. Because he has that base of softness, he can go hard on Johnny’s arrogance.
Why is this relevant to Johnny’s attractiveness as a character, as well as why Johnny/F!V are a fascinating ship? To develop a character well, you have to have an extremely solid base to start on – and that base is where a lot of writing and acting falls down. The audience has to know intimately what a character is usually like, or who they seem to be, before burrowing into the character further is made effective. That equal hard/soft approach means that when Johnny does soften later in the game, it seems both unexpected and inevitable. Even as the harsh tone and words were conveying one thing, that softness underneath was always conveying another. But the fact that Reeves can go hard on the arrogance makes that change much more impactful than it would be in another character. Once again, we’re seeing an equal balance of two seemingly opposing qualities, not openly leaning towards one or the other.
There’s also some aspects of the body language Reeves and the animators give to Johnny I’d like to focus in on. While I’m not an actor, nor am I a psychologist, and therefore am likely to have missed things, there were a few things I noticed when going through footage of Johnny in pivotal scenes. (If you spot something I haven’t talked about, please reply or reblog! I’d love to get a back-and-forth discussion going.)
Over and over again, Johnny’s body language has two layers. There’s what I’m calling the ‘douchebag’ layer, which is where Johnny seems insultingly relaxed. The scene when V and Johnny first meet, as well as the scene at the diner, have two great examples of this. Johnny gets into V’s space, but it’s slow, catlike. There’s no urgency when he leans in, nor when he stands over V.
Similarly, at the diner, he tells V he doesn’t want to kill her anymore – something pivotally important for their relationship and the plot - while putting his arms behind his head and his feet up on the table. It communicates, at least on the surface, a real sense of disrespect. ‘I don’t give a shit’, says his posture, ‘whether you hate and fear me or not’. His threatening slowness when they first meet, meanwhile, communicates that he doesn’t think V is a competent opponent. Why should he hurry if he can get her any time?
At least, that’s what it looks like. Take a look from 9:40 onwards here. Sure, he swings his legs up on the table – but not before hurrying into the diner booth and tapping his fingers rapidly on the table. Even when he gets into that relaxed posture, he’s bouncing his leg the entire time. Those catlike movements I talked about when they first meet? If you look from 5:42 here, they’re there. But they’re also interspersed with banging his head incessantly against the wall, pacing back and forth and glitching unpredictably all around the room.
This is where the second layer of Johnny’s body language comes in. Underneath all that casual condescension, he communicates constant, frenetic energy, even anxiety. Even in his default, idle animations, it’s extremely rarely that Johnny communicates real coolness and calm. He covers constantly racing thoughts and feelings with a slick persona.
What this does is very like the hard/soft balance of the voice acting I talked about earlier. Because the ‘douchebag’ layer of body language is the most obvious one, you pick up on that first. But the other layer is there throughout Johnny’s entire arc, and it goes into your brain on a much more subconscious level. Then, when Johnny’s guard does come down, it seems like a natural development of his character while still being a surprise. Once again, there’s that knife-edge balance between two disparate qualities. And for me, attraction always lies in the space between.
There’s also something highly sexual about the way he gets into V’s space when they first meet, the way he stands over her. When first playing the scene where they first meet, it felt like watching the moments before an act of rape. You see him first as he leans over you while you’re still in bed. He beats you to the ground, smashes your head into the window, and towers over you while you’re collapsed on the floor. Given the context of him taking over your body, the overtones are unmistakeable.
But again, crucially, that frantic body language and his lines are the complete opposite of how someone behaves when making the kind of power play that rape is. The pacing, the panicked words and the fact that he’s caught off guard all communicate disempowerment. While it’s still a violent, frightening scene, it’s not a monstrous one.
Why is that relevant to discussing Johnny’s attractiveness, and Johnny/V? Because rape fantasies and male domination are some of the oldest tropes in the book for M/F romantic arcs. Done properly, they play on desires of sexual submission without explicitly acknowledging the kink, depict the eroticism of that liminal space between humanity and monstrosity I talked about earlier and allow you to fantasise about being deeply wanted. Of course, that last bit isn’t a factual depiction of rape in real life. But in the fantasy, the story, the idea of being ravished is partially about being special, being so uniquely attractive that the guy loses all control of himself. If you have a more conservative or repressed view of your sexuality, the ravishment/rape fantasy also allows you to fantasise about sex without seeing yourself as a slut. (This post is a great look at that last idea as applied to the movie Labyrinth, if you want to find out more.)
The idea of sexualised monstrosity is also everywhere in the tropes used to characterise Johnny. He’s a troubled rockstar, an angst-ridden artist who died tragically young, a violent political rebel, part human and part supernatural creature, a charismatic, cocky, seemingly heartless guy, who just might have a heart if you look deep enough. What all these tropes have in common is the promise of both reassuring humanity and fascinating, exciting monstrosity.
Reeves’ and Johnny’s looks combine strangeness and humanity. Reeves’ voice acting moves between soaring arrogance and languid softness. Johnny’s body language combines fear and overconfidence. And the use of age-old romantic tropes in an unexpected context, as well as the use of these specific romantic tropes, knit all the effects of the other things together to create that balance between the human and the strange. He’s unusual enough to be interesting, human enough to seem real and associated with all our cultural symbolism of an attractive man. With all that going on, how could you not find him hot as hell?
But the thing about these tropes is, they’re also so common they’re clichéd. Not just in fandom, but all across Western media and art. So what lifts Johnny and Johnny/V out of being something generic? What makes them so fascinating that I’ve written thousands of words about them? What, in short, makes them different?
That’s what I’ll go into next time.

COME SEE THE FREAKS, FIRE BREATHERS AND THE HEADLESS WOMEN! -- GIBTOWN BIKE FEST
January is generally a ghastly time of year when many, north of the Mason Dixon, ache for saddle time while their wheels sit comfy inside the warmth of a garage. Of course, we know there are those among us who laugh in the face of frostbite. But for us average Joe’s who detest the frosty side, Ol’ Man Winter simple squashes most attempts to hit the open road. So, when the call came in to head south toward the sunny skies of Florida, for what could best be described as a traveling carny bike rally, we jumped at the chance. Warm temps, perfect sunny skies, some top notch entertainment and a little biker accouterments shopping were just what the doctor ordered.
Gibtown Bikefest was held January 11 – 13 in Gibsonton, Florida on the grounds of and hosted by the International Independent Showman’s Association (IISA), just a short jaunt from Tampa/St. Pete. Not a bad place to be in January. The IISA in Gibsonton is better known as a seasonal showman’s retreat. It is a winter haven for the folks that celebrate the Carny lifestyle. Consequently, with a pedigree such as that at its roots, it’s no wonder this curious mix of motorcycles with a splash of sideshow carnival has been labeled the most entertaining bike event in the country. As testament to Ron Long, IISA ex-president and founder of this gathering of mixed oddities, 2019 marked 16 years for the charity event. To this day, they do not charge admission for entry, parking, concerts or shows and have still managed to raise hundreds of thousands for local charities over the years. The attendance has grown from a simple one-day poker run with a handful of riders, to over 15 thousand biker-friendly folks gathering together for a three-day biker carnival.
The intrepid Steel Horse Audio crew rode from Atlanta down to Gibtown and that meant logging around 470 miles to get there. Naturally, that also meant we needed tunes to accompany us. I was using Steel Horse Audio’s ST400 motorcycle speaker system on my Softail while my wife was using the ST200 classic system on her Dyna. Our friend Bill has a throaty exhaust on his Road King and went for the full boat ST600 Platinum speaker system to blast the sounds as we took the road south.
Upon arrival, it was hard not to notice that Gibtown is a smaller rally compared to many. Size wise it compares to some campground rallies I’ve attended. However, this is where Gibtown’s experience shines bright. In about the same space, there are more vendors, more stages (inside and out), stunt shows, sideshows, three ride-in bike shows, a Harley dealer tent filled with all the new models along with tons of used bikes for sale and a learn to ride experience. Add to that a full size carnival-style Ferris wheel and a helicopter pad for rides along the Alafia River. It’s plain to see these guys have been doing this a while. And not just here at Bike Fest.
As we studied the layout and schedule for the weekend’s festivities, a blaring announcement, with an old fashioned carny flair, echoed throughout the property, summoning the masses to view the crazy stunt antics of Johnny Rockett’s Cycle Circus Stunt Show Spectacular. It didn’t take long for the small space in front of the Circus Big Top facade to get packed elbow-to-elbow. While the Ringmaster bellowed to his audience, a giant clown face that provided the backdrop for the whole scene, started belching BMX and motocross riders. They promptly took flight and started flipping and flying through the air in true X- games fashion. A pretty young jester twirled on a makeshift high wire as three riders squeezed into the caged globe of death and fist bumped as they circled inside the cage in perfect syncopation.
As the Cycle Circus wound down their performance, a gentleman sporting a vintage pinstripes and derby getup, started barking, “Come see the freaks, fire breathers and the headless women” attempting to steal the crowd before they headed back toward the bar. Just a few yards away from him sat a wrestling ring with two oversized behemoths engaging in a WWE-style smack down. It was quickly apparent that Gibtown isn’t your typical bike rally.
Local and national bands put on outstanding performances this year. DeCarlo with Tommy DeCarlo, current front man for legendary rock band Boston, put on a spectacular show on Friday and Great White drew a big crowd as Saturday’s headliner. Local favorites Bobby Friss and The Greg Billings Band were joined by The Black Ties, Come Back Alice, Dirt Road Rodeo, Stonegrey along with a dozen other artists rounded out the weekend’s musical entertainment schedule.
Speaking of music and sound, Bill entered the loudest stereo contest and smoked the competition thanks to his ST600’s 900watt Rockford Fosgate motorcycle amp and four super clear Kicker motorcycle speakers. No brag, just fact. Day three brought us the master builder awards, one last chance for a go around on that Ferris Wheel and the bold southern country rock sounds of Soul Circus Cowboys sent everyone on their way with some renewed bounce in their step.

Johnny & Associates Launches Lofi Stream
Earlier today, Johnny & Associates revealed something new on its Johnny’s Shop Channel, a lofi stream. The stream takes place in a virtual cafe named “Hanauta.” The songs played on the stream are lofi versions of songs by the company’s many acts. The idea for this lofi stream came from the staff at the Johnny’s […]

December 13, (Sunday), 2020: 3:51 (Windsor)
There is no Russia.
There are no Russians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dues paid in full, SAG Card in good standing.
===================================
3:59 pm:
Other, unrelated Russian bullshit from Britain:
Real quick: There are Ford 351 Cubic Inch Displacement V-8 Motors. You can get those inside of old classic Ford cars & trucks, some are “351 Windsor”, some are “351 Cleveland”, both “Windsor”, and “Cleveland”, are words suitable for fighting over, are verbal weapons, put the two words together, and you have a nitrous gas weapon that cuts when you swing it. Put it in a car, and it goes fast as it cuts, aspirated with 4-Bbbl Holley.
I don’t know what the design characteristic differences are between Cleveland and Windsor 351 cubic inch displacement V-8 motors.
The key to starts each motor, seems to be on the helm of a boat, one that weighs less than the water it displaces, which is the reason the boat floats.
HMS Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
A Boat.
FLOTUS
Weighs less than the water it displaces. We have a new FLOTUS Boat in port right now, shiny, all cleaned up, refurbished older classic model, one that already has seen some battles on the High See’s. (is also trending on Twitter last night, WSJ says use of “Dr.” written on the hull is no good for new, old, FLOTUS)
==
There is also a Dodge 318 Cubic Inch Displacement V-8 Motor that comes to mind. You can get those in the classic Chrysler products. There is a old 318, pre-1964, and there is a new 318, after 1964.
1964 is Beatles British Invasion. (Russia).
I do know some of the design differences between Old 318 and New 318.
Maybe is better to say “USA 318″ for the old one, vs “British Chinese Hong-Kong Knock-Off Russian Mother Hoax 318″, for the new one.
Old 318 is narrow V angle from the crank center to the outer wings of the V shape on the heads, where the valve’s are controlled from the cam, below them. The Valve timing must be adjusted manually at the valve guide rocker arm tappets gap to specifications and service limits.
New 318 is wide-angle V shape from crank center to outer wing heads of the V shape. There is no valve timing adjustment, necessary, or possible on New 318. All is done with some kind of Amp Guru magic wand for making the valve’s work, somehow, is a mystery, no way to control the timing of the valves anymore, is automatic, comes from the Martinizer or something, secret knowledge, was wiz-bang high tech, no one talked about how come the 318 works so good without need for scheduled valve adjustment maintenance.
“That because they are Hydrolic Tappets” says auto mechanic guru when I ask questions.
“Ok... Hydrolic ones. That explains it then, thank you” I reply, knowing stepped in some kind of slippery slope only leads to the ground from there.
New 318 is much wider than it’s dead brother who ran out of Valve Timing Adjustment, needs more lateral room to fit it’s fat ass in under the bonnet (used to be a hood, I think is a bonnet now, see Jon Bonnet Ramsey areas of Russian Hoax Mother, maybe is more about that over there.). They call it “The Wedge” because of the wide-angle of the orientation of the shape of the engine block and heads. Intake Manifold is HUGE for those. (try a Weiand 4 bbl high-rise with Holley carburetors... experiment with different ones. it’s 1965. so, see what works, then report back to AutoMechanic Guru... Mr. GoodWrench. One time I put a Rochester Carburetor onto a 1969 Toyota Corona... it worked good. I don‘t know how come the thing fit on there, it just did, so, I hooked up some linkage, and off to the rodeo, for about 4 years with that. no problems. Later on, I put a 1986 nissan motor into a 1974 Datsun truck. There were some problems, had to make it fit, the fan kept going through the radiator, had to start over, but the motor I bought was new fangled computer operated motor... I did not get that part.... only the motor. Everyone says: “you need the computer part, it’s never going to work.” I said “go fuck off with your Lego’s, this thing has spark plugs, a distributor, is fuel injected. All it needs is some fuel and some air, it’s going to work without the computer part” and that is what happened. It worked without the computer part, and, it worked real good.)
Just some things to think about while Jill Biden is floating around with last minute hull dressings choices to decide what to call the HMS Boat she is riding on.
4:40 plus 8 pm.

5:38 pm: Walmart visit at the “Nightmare Before Elm Street” event from Friday or whenever that was:
My memory is returning some small details about things that happened there.
The Guillotine was there, I remember now, it was there on the way in, and on the way out too.
Looks like it’s part of the door.
You cannot see the guillotine. They put so much distraction, that even if you look right at it, you still don‘t know it’s a guillotine.
Mostly, it’s because we have been programmed and conditioned since we were children that there are no guillotines at the Walmart as you go in. So, mostly, that’s why we can‘t see the guillotine at the Walmart front entrance. (with new COVID Corona Rules, there is only one way in, and one way out of the Walmart now. The West Side Story, is that COVID rules from Salem Oregon Kate Brown HQ says that the West Side Entrance is to be closed, for COVID Safety. There is a small side door near that hallway where the Carnival Games are at, on the Shopping Cart Port side of the building where those get cleaned up and put back into circulation, like miniature FLOTUS HMS Biden’s. That door also is closed, big sign on the Art Easel says “This Door is Designated for Walmart Associates Only”, so, you have to show a SAG Card or something to use that one.
The important part: As I went in there, and was distracted by the Salvation Army Door Bell w/Bucket, wearing Chinese Knock Off (Hong-Kong) US Navy Officer Dress Uniform, I stopped right there as I was almost in the door frame going in. I saw something that looked kinda weird, had to rub my eyes... “Uh-Ohh... Walmart Transgender Patrol... it’s coming my way” I said.
I use my Bic Lighter consistently from the time I open my car door, wave it around a little, then get out of the car, all the way through the Walmart shopping adventure in Dystopia the whole time, every time I go there, or anywhere. You need a Bic Lighter to survive. Just light it, move it around at waist high every few minutes and when people are getting close to you. Only takes a second to clear the air.
There, was Pope Francis, coming in fast towards me. The Guillotine was between me an the Bergoglio. He was about 10 feet away when I saw a man wearing a white dress there, I don‘t recall the pointy hat, but, I do recall reaching through the Guillotine frame, saying “This is not a good idea, too risky”, but there were no choices, so, I reached through there, grabbed whoever that was, and pulled as the guillotine was triggered by my arm going through the motion sensor area.
Walmart Transgender Patrol was cut in three pieces as the blade came down. I wound up holding his hand... arm... and one half went outside of the building, the other half stayed inside and went to the left and onto the ground. I tossed the arm behind me to keep my hands free so I could fight when I went in, ducked under the blade that was still chopping, and that is when “The Unclean“ security that I explained sprang into action, also, just then, the man that monitors everyone who enters the store took his usual position in the center between the roped off Entrance Lane, and Exit Lane. He was off to the side safely out of the way before that Transgender Patrol Pope was cut in two at the front entrance. That guy stands there with a electronic Tablet size thing, he is able to read debit card chips as people walk by within range, so, he was Johnny on the Spot as the “Two Piece Pope” hit the ground, and, “The Unclean” began to do their routine.
I saw the man on the floor in two places. Maybe was two people who were cut, one was the Pope, the other was a heap of mess on the floor between the Exit and Entrance sides. I think was two different people.
The man was still alive, his head was moving but was cut long way, in two-three pieces. I cleared all of that, grabbed a shopping cart for some protection, it was sticky on the handle... people all began to come to the exit, I looked over at that man on the floor and said “You have to bring your own hospital”. Then, all of those people, about 15 people, all started to release a lot more gas than already was there.
Some pretty girls were deployed near the McDonald’s, and more of them beyond that, some noises towards the inside of the Walmart were such that my attention was drawn over there, and that is the direction I went.
In front of the McDonald’s, two of those pretty girls were ignited, from nitrous gas ignition, and they both launched up into the suspended ceiling and a piece of the ceiling tile fell to my right onto the place where some promotional items are stacked at the entrance area across from the McDonald’s.
An unmasked man was there to my left as I went into the Walmart. He had seen the two girls disappear into the ceiling and the tile fall from above. That man was mesmerized, in disbelief. I could hear him say “It’s real... the blog is real”.
I advised that if he pays attention to the pharmacy area, those two girls should be coming down out of the ceiling over there any second now, and I walked in that direction, the two girls came down out of the ceiling right there by the pharmacy, just like they always do and hit the floor hard. A cart was there, at the ready, had been deployed immediately upon lift-off, to cart them away. There is a channel built into the Walmart ceiling such that when the terror soldier launch up in there, they are directed to the pharmacy to come down over there, closer to where it can be easier to disguise such persons as unfortunate injured people who came to the Walmart Pharmacy for some first aid, from some other accident, they will say.
As I walked around doing my shopping for some food. there was a lot of talk about “The Pope”, “Francis“, “Bergoglio”, “Two-Piece”, “Papa”, and “Father” inside the store, enough that I believe it’s likely to have been “The Bergoglio” who came to attack me at the front entrance.
I have seen the Pope, the real Pope, here in Grants Pass many times. I have seen the previous one, “Pope Benededict” also, he goes to the Myers terror cell at 560 Jackpine, and, he brought the “Pope Mobile” at least once to Jackpine.
There are some entries here on this account about a time that included a large hot-air balloon, shaped like a house, when one of the Pope’s came to Jackpine.
That with the Pope Mobile, was the day this happened:
Tumblr media
I was playing guitar when I heard something outside, and went out there while holding that guitar pick, there was someone speaking in Latin, hiding behind a building here at my house pointing a rifle at me, I spoke back to the person, who shot at me, then ran away. The gun looked like AR-7 to me, a survival rifle, like one that I once owned, is small, is for backpack travel, lightweight.
There also were two other people closer to me, a young blonde woman, and a young man, who were hiding under the deck of a wood raised porch here at my property.
But that happened a long time ago... I am just reminded of it from that Walmart adventure with the guillotine at the front entrance the other day.
So, although there is more to say about the “Nightmare Before Elm Street” event at the Walmart the other day, it’s useless to say the details... no one is going to send the kind of help that is required to stop the size and scope of the terror monstrosity that exists here.
I am optimistic that the man who was mesmerized with seeing the girls go into the ceiling found safe passage back to where he came from, maybe can send proper help.
6:50 pm.
============================
7:22 pm:
Maybe you don’t believe what I explained there.
I think you need to start thinking in bigger ways than the you have been programmed to think.
Was it the Pope? I don‘t know for sure, I don‘t claim to know who the “Transgender Walmart Front Entrance Patrol” was, that does not matter, is not as important as the event itself, all of the characters involved are terror soldiers, that is the important part.
I can say that when I have seen the Pope’s come to town before, there is also a presence of support people that are also present, they have a particular set of characteristics about them, and, those kinds of people were all in charge at the Walmart, wearing the vests, moving around the inventory pallet jack’s all over the place, at a very unusual time of day for inventory work, afternoon day time is not customary for those small forklift style pallet jacks to be so many, and there were many of them all with about one-half to one-third capacity of boxed store items on them, and, none of the items on the small size forklifts were marked with any brand name on the boxes. So, maybe  20 of those moving around in the store, each with generic brown color, white color, some green color boxes on them, none of which were very big boxes, stacked, arranged loosely on those pallet jacks. But it’s the people who were using the pallet jacks that are more interesting, but more difficult to explain why they are interesting to look at.
First, those people tend to be women, about 60 years old. They tend to all have the same hair style, curly shoulder length grey hair. They all are about 5′5″ or shorter. Each one looks the same as the other one. It’s easy to look at them and think about “Thing One, and Thing Two” from “Cat in the Hat” for reasons that only Sigmund Freud will know.
After careful thought, those women all look very similar to Joan Phillips of 507 Jackpine Dr.Grants Pass Oregon 97526, who I have explained is the leading terror command for as far as I am able to see, regional, global terror leadership over a great distance is at 507 Jackpine, and, Myers at 560 is SAG nbc Universal Comcast Studios version of Joan Phillips, and Bruce & Janice Freeberg of 535 Jackpine is terror Air Force leadership, also regional, maybe Global. Bruce has been dead a long time, is inside of stolen F-18 fighter jet two-seat trainer in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean for about 15 or more years. (Harold Phillips died about five or six years ago, was leader, now is Joan. Rumor is that Phillips are blood relation to Windsor Royalty. They pronounce the name as “Felps” if you are listening to chatter.)
Those people all have a look on their faces that is blank... like lobotomy patients or some other blankness, absence of inner light, souless looking people wandering around while pushing inventory freight pallet jacks around wearing Walmart vests, blue ones.
They stop when you pass by, and stare with blank facial expression that is so weird, you just want to move away from there.
Those people are not the regular Walmart terror assassins. those are more specialized Pope Vatican style Cat in the Hat terror gas warriors... they really do look like zombie face, or other way to explain lobotomy might be a real possibility about why they look the way they do. Physically normal, emotionally not present... blanks.
They have been here in Grants Pass at the other times when I saw the Pope’s.
Also, other SAG looking people were there, you can see that they are SAG actors by the props they use, the heavy character make-up, Hollywood Movie style heavy transforming make-up, the kind that is applied with small trowel, then painted, can‘t see it after that.
Most of that activity with inventory was at the Electronics Department. I saw one of those SAG Make-Up warriors who was playing role of store shopper, go from Grocery Customer, to Electronics Department Walmart Associate. he just went into the back, parked his shopping cart, grabbed a vest, and Viola! Electronics Guru was there. That guy had a beard with a pony tail about 12″ wrapped with fabric small beard coat, colorful, Rastafarian style, is there to draw attention away from more Vatican Souless ideas, towards other, media promotional bad-guy ideas.
Many pretty girls at the Walmart, all of them seem to be wearing very tight fitting leotard style yoga pants, very revealing distractive pants.
All of that is part of usual terror there, other than the “Lobotomy Blanks”... the Guillotine is part of the usual, the Pope is not.
Electronics Department was special circumstance that day. Unusual activity at the door that leads to the inventory at electronics there. Lots of Forklift Pallet Jack w/blank drivers going in and out, was cluster fuck traffic jam there at electronics w/special carts.
8:03 pm.

9:01 pm:
Some things about “Walmart COVID Front Entrance Monitor w/Tablet Size Electronic Gizmo”:
He is always there now. Been there since around spring time 2020 when the very industrial style dividers between front door entrance, and front door exit started to happen. At first, that divider was a piece of hardware, looks like an Easy-Up Canopy style extendable folding portable fence, scissors style extension technology. That was temporary, but Tablet Man Monitor is permanent fixture. That divider is always there now, but configuration varies, could be some movie theater style rope dividers, or, could be a lot of shopping carts put there to keep the “In Door” aisle, separated from the “Out Door” aisle at that entrance area. The entrance is neither inside, nor outside of the shopping store, it’s a grey area, that idea is present at all of the COVID sort of attack zones around, some kind of non-descript place between.
Electronic Tablet Gizmo Man is only obvious at Walmart as far as I can see, but at smaller venues, the Smart Phone Blue-Tooth Scouts serve the same function.
I say the Walmart has “Debit Card Chip Blue-Tooth Remote Scan“ technology, and I am aware of other, wondering variety of scouts who have the same thing in a smaller devise than Walmart COVID Monitor does. I walked right over to him that day and told him to his face that he was reading card chips, I looked at the device, the screen is blank grey when I looked. He had just stepped into position at the time.
The explanation I was told, about a long time ago, before there was debit card chips on the cards we use for paying, and has been repeated as a further explanation is that the device sends out a signal that makes a three dimensional map of a area within range. That signal finds, wraps around in three dimensions, a signal of the things it is looking for. A debit card chip in your pocket or wallet is the kind of thing it can find. The device, I am told, sends and receives that mapping signal, software cross-referenced to banking data bases, matches the physical shape of the chips on cards, that it finds. The information then knows who you are, as you pass by Walmart COVID Monitor, and other roving equivalents of the COVID Monitor at Walmart, but with smaller devices. They know your banking balance that way and who you are in a parking lot from about twenty feet away I have seen, as a small group of people say: “He has the card with him” when I walk into 6th Street Market.
All of that is not even necessary though, could be bait, because at Fred Meyer and at Walmart, the cash register screen has already been showing the cashiers the banking balances of the store customers as they are at the checkout, been going on for more than a decade like that. Someone with big balance is called “a Whale” at that time. “Get the Boston Whaler”... “Load the harpoon“, “Tell Quint his order is ready”... “Little Buddy!” any kind of whale hunting jargon is shouted when big balance is shown on the grocery store checkout screen. Fred Meyer systems are directly connected to JP Morgan Chase Bank Systems at the checkout grocery screen for many years. That is why I advise caution when asking too many questions about blue-tooth card reading capabilities. It’s not that they don‘t use it, it’s that it’s not necessary, they have it hard wired for banking info of victims.
Walgreen‘s Pharmacy uses wiz-bang modern card reading tech at the checkout, just touch your card to the debit machine, you don‘t have to insert the card at the Walgreen‘s.
Fred Meyer is the big fish for looking at Bank Hijack. Kroger Foods, all of it.

10:02 pm:
Walmart Entrance Russian Fractal Hoax Mother:
Too much attention is drawn to the entrance at the Walmart, there so much stuff that happens there, changes made, distractions, you could say stuff, and then keep saying Walmart Front Entrance forever, so, you have to fly around in the Russian Mother Hoax to find answers to questions that are not asked at the front entrance.
West Side Story is where answers are at for the Grants Pass Walmart, other Walmart’s may be different story than West Side Story.... it’s that other entrance, the one on the West Side that no one is interested in because of so much going on at East Side Entrance.
Go to West Side Story for a minute, look at the movie details at IMDB.com, look for SAG Cards there.
First thing, is they snap their fingers while walking in a gang and singing... ok...
Bewitched then.
Where is Tabatha?
Which one of the “Derwood’s” is on the screen? Old Derwood? or new. replacement Derwood?
There is a lot of Russian Hoax just right there, at Walmart.
Then, snap your fingers again, because the movie Grease is a lot like West Side Story, sort of, so, you have to talk to Suzanne Sommers there on Van Nuys Blvd on Cruze night in around 1975 or so in that Thunderbird, has a port-hole, so, you know you are at the right place when you zoom back to Salvation Army Bell Ringer at the Walmart East Entrance who are wearing those US navy knock-off uniforms.
The details are all over the place here. It’s deep water, lots of seaweed, there are coral reefs, many small fish, very diversified set of Russian (Walmart) Mother Hoax by way of Van Nuys California Circuit Courts nearby where the Grease movie was filmed.
Too much is going on to be specific.
Van Nuys is going to be a very big fish here in that West Side Story that snaps to Bewitched where Tabatha is so cute when she wiggles her nose, and they tried to sneak a new Derwood into the picture like no one is going to notice that on Amazon Prime Time network television in 1966 or something like that, for crying out loud.
(Jim Dunlop with Cry Baby Wah-Wah peddle and “Snarling Dogs” knurled guitar picks just showed up on Cracker Jack Hoax Decoder Ring Radar... too much is going on here in Van Nuys Courthouse... Need some assistance please.)
“GREASE”... I think the title is in all caps, have to go look to make sure.
10:28 pm.

West Park Hospital
West Valley Precinct
Golden West Billiards
All Valley Automotive Service (formerly West Valley Automotive Service)
The place next door to All Valley Automotive Service is very special, highly regarded, over and over again, guarded.
and
Tommy’s Hamburger’s
Those are on the Van Nuys Russian Hoax Mother Courthouse, but it’s all protected with a House of Mirrors, and a lot smoke, all kinds of smoke.
==============
Eventually, you wind up here in the Russian Hoax Mother, at all of the Thunderbirds episodes.
That, all leads to Rocketdyne in Simi Valley.
That will take you to “Fake Rocketdyne” on DeSoto Ave... just stay away for now, there is bigger fish to fry than the ones on DeSoto.
You might have to swing by to find the real Charles Manson, and figure out why so much effort was put onto the fake Charles Manson in the prison.
There is going to be a lot of Spawn right there, they will make you put the Ranch sauce when you are looking for some vinegar.
Walmart West Side Story is a deep place. Lots going on there. Includes some Squeekie Wheel Terror Comm, but, you already found the GREASE for that, so, you know you are at the right place.
Later, if we don‘t stop the terror coup, all of the stores are going to be places where you need to know the secret door knock to get inside, to get some food. We are almost there now.
Better swing by over at the Chaos HQ, talk to Maxwell Smart, bring your own phone booth, Superman.
(shit, here come Jerry Seinfeld on the RADAR... Nueman!)

)12-14-2020: The CIA, FBI, and Secret Service don‘t hold a candle to these 1960′s Thunderbird’s episodes for when it comes down to training of personnel within their ranks. This stuff is top notch, does not get much better when you consider it’s stealth presentation right there in front of everyone, while delivering the training direct to the living rooms of the people signed up for the training, through covert publications such as TV GUIDE. These episodes are double-whammy terror masterpieces. They simultaneously train the terror army, while setting up the victims, and, promote pedophilia incorporated into the command chain of the terror soldiers being trained, all at the same time, in the same episode. To get a more complete education from these, you have to also look at the companion series called “David & Goliath”, also are claymation style productions. There, you can find where the Christian Guilt is etched in stone into the minds of the young terror trainees of the time period, all of which are in their 50′s, 60′s and 70′s today, and are very dangerous terror soldiers, when their education was further enhanced by the third leg of the Trinity of the education tactic at the churches, in person, with special follow up to the introductory lessons taught on the television within the Thunderbird's, and David & Goliath. That episode above has much going on, but I will say that much of the message is that the title, the “Uninvited” is reference to flame, fire, many ways that nitrous oxide can be ignited, and is bad for the trainees. “Fire is Uninvited” could be gleaned from the episode.(
(Fast Forward to more contemporary, similar training to Inspector Gadget cartoons. There is likely to be a companion to that also to play the guilt card, and in association to Saturday and Sunday Church Service follow up and guidance, depending on religious denomination preferences, or, orders for particular denomination selection from higher leadership. I suspect Ivy League goes to Church on Sunday, leadership church, soldier church happens on Saturdays, maybe, sort of, at least to some extent. So, “What is the sister, companion Television program that accompanies Inspector Gadget?”, is a good question, I don‘t know what it could be)
)Once you begin to see what has been happening with the Russian Mother of all Hoaxes, then you could start to see that the television programs presented something for all age groups, all different kinds of people, either to train them as terror soldiers and lead them toward the churches for personal guidance in addition to the programming, or, to set them up as victims with special conditioning for that, all inside of the TV programs. Just look at 1960′s - 1970′s soap opera’s to see how the women were targeted that way. Why was their no hospital in the entire General Hospital decades of episodes? I don’t know why that happened, but it did happen. There was something for everyone, to be trained as a Christian terror soldier, or operative, or, to be set-up to be victimized by them. They play both hands on the TV programs, while leading everyone towards the church, where the decisions are made, judgement is cast at the Church. Both times I went to church in my lifetime, were bad experience, I did not like it.(
(If you step the fuck back, and then glue together I Love Lucy with Gilligan’s Island, what do you get? They happened about at the same period of time.
You get Cuban Missal Crisis in your living room while the husband is away at night, things a little loose, as Lucy is always trying to find some kind of hobby to occupy her time without having to do too much Splainin‘ to Ricky when he finally comes home and there is no radio there, in the living room where you are stranded watching, being entertained by Ginger and Mary Ann is so wholesome right there, the professor are not able to reach land, the skipper looks important, but... well... Gilligan tries to keep a positive outlook while Babaloo is playing on the native drums on the other side of the island, that apartment upstairs where the people must be elephants or something and you can’t hear the TV. Everyone is stranded, but entertained, it’s a little loose, and the Cubans are not bad guys after all, they are on TV in the living room while we ride the exorcise bike to try to get a signal out on the radio while the rich people “The Third” are looking on, with nice clothes, and some bubbly.

11:06 pm:
I need to put a conclusion here for this entry to make some sense, but the decoding work hasn‘t even been started yet.
I have to make reminder of the Pope’s Crucifix to do this, I already explained some of it before, so, quick reminder is that the horizontal part is about things that happen on the surface, they go sideways.
The vertical is more about ideas, intangible stuff, it’s where the Pope’e elevator is at, can go up to heavenly ideas, can go down under all of that sideways activity that happens on the horizontal part, towards hell.
Walmart East Entrance is the Horizontal part of the Pope’s crucifix, shit goes sideways there, big time.
That other, West Side entrance is the one no one is concerned with, there is a fire hazard waiting to happen over there, the door is all locked up because Salem Oregon said COVID rules make it too dangerous to use that West Side Door (disregard Dora the explorer as she swims by here, it’s Ellen Degenerous, OK? You really don‘t need any more info than that when Dora is swimming by) and there are no Fire Marshall's anywhere to be found while that door is locked shut.
That, the West Side, is where the questions are at, but there is no one asking any questions, so, the Vertical Part of the Pope’s Crusifix is doing some kind of Hokus Pokus that is keeping the common sense away from there. The Vertical Part is diverted over to the horizontal part of the Pope’s Crucifix, and there is one very small door available on the side, special, for “Walmart Associates” where going in and coming out, is simplified, at least, it appears that way.
Basically, physical activity on the Horizontal Axis, while the Mental Exercise happens on the Vertical Axis. Complications happen with addition of René Descartes and it all turns French after that.
You still have to walk through the carnival games to use that door, they all have a coin slot.
So you do your thinking over on the Vertical Axis at the Wast Side, but it’s crazy there, will blow your mind. Otherwise, you can use the Horizontal Axis at the East Side, a one way trip for most people.
There is that small place to go in and out, special people door, they get a redo or something, I don‘t know how that works, I think they pass out Bit Coin over there, Stirling Air Money.

12-14-2020: 12:21 am:
Although all of that San Fernando Valley came up on the Grants Pass Walmart Decoder at the West Side Story, much of that could have been planted to show up like that, SAG Writers Guild is evil like that, they can do shit like, while walking and chewing gum.
It’s a trap to go into Southern California, so, without military, that place is worse than Grants Pass is. Looks like bait.
Send help to Oregon.
Please send medical services.
Bring your own hospital.

POPS GROOVE, CRY FOR MORE!
Robert & Joanalee Hurwitt, Berkeley Barb, 23 June 1967
“Life didn't get in but the Berkeley BARB did,” Derek Taylor, publicity director for the Monterey International Pop Festival, told a press conference on the Monterey fairgrounds Saturday afternoon.
The audience cheered.
Taylor was commenting on complaints from the press that their press passes were useless for getting in to watch the concerts.
BARB, knowing that most of the press deserves to be hassled, found it easy to scam front row seats for every concert. The “big" press, we were pleased to note, were the only people hassled.
TREMENDOUS The first (annual?) International Pop Festival was a tremendous success.
At the last minute most of the anticipated problems were resolved and resolved well. The Grateful Dead and Chet Helms managed to get Monterey Peninsula College to open up its football field for camping. Such groups as Country Joe and the Fish and Eric Burdon and the Animals performed free into the early morning hours. The Festival opened up its parking lots and the fairground itself for camping.
Everywhere you looked beautiful people were in the majority, from the arcade (representing every craft necessary to manufacture instant hippies) to the streets outside.
The cops seemed to decrease in number and increase in politeness from day to day.
FANTASTIC And the concerts were fantastic—to the point of being difficult to describe accurately. It is even difficult to talk about the highlights, there were so many outstanding performances crowded into such a short space of time.
Friday evening started with The Association, lively although a bit sloppy. They were followed by a young group from Canada, The Paupers. There are four Paupers, three play drums and three play guitars and they produce a wild sound. How did they get that turned on in Canada? Their last number ended with a terrific bass guitar solo by Denny Gerrard, completely unplanned, he told BARB later.
The Paupers were followed by Lou Rawls, sho sang some great blues but turned us off with a medley of less inspired works (eg: “When I Was Seventeen”). He was followed by Beverly, a British folksinger with a good voice and stage fright, and the gray soul of Johnny Rivers. The bill was topped with Eric Burdon and the Animals and Simon and Garfunkel.
The Animals have developed a frighteningly intense and complex electronic style. Their “Gin House Blues” (“dedicated to Bacchus—a song of the past”) was enough to make one swear off state-sanctioned narcotics forever, and they followed it with a version of “Paint it Black” (with an electric violin intro that made the Rolling Stones sound tame.)
Simon and Garfunkel topped off the evening in a beautiful relaxed manner—two choirboy manner—two choirboy voices and one (nonelectric) guitar and they completely captivated the audience. Their performance can only be described as magic.
BAY BANDS Saturday was fairly dominated by Bay Area Bands, with Big Brother and the Holding Company, Country Joe and the Fish, The Quicksilver Messenger Service, and The Steve Miller Blues Band performing in the afternoon and Moby Grape and The Jefferson Airplane in the evening. Janice Joplin, of Big Brother, brought the house down belting out blues with her magnificent voce.
Country Joe, too, gave an excellent performance which included an LSD commercial and ended with “The Vietnam Rag”. Mama Cass, seated behind us, exclaimed, “Who else has guts like that?"
But it’s not just guts that makes Joe so exciting. His music, as Al Kooper pointed out to BARB, is extremely complex.
Kooper, Canned Heat (a sloppy L.A. blues group), Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield filled out the Saturday afternoon bill.
Tall thin Al Kooper, formerly with The Blues Project (he left because of a nervous breakdown, he told BARB, and because he couldn’t keep up with their pace, “I’m just a skinny sort of guy.”) played two of his arrangements beautifully, but “Wake Me, Shake Me” simply needs more than one voice.
Butterfield’s performances were, both that afternoon and again in the evening, were magnificent, far surpassing even his recordings.
Mike Bloomfield’s new group The Electric Flag, climaxed the afternoon’s performance (the program seemed a little heavy on blues groups) and got a reception that seems to insure them of continued success.
NUMB By evening we were almost numbed to anything except outstanding performances. Aside from Butterfield, the only really outstanding performance was Otis Redding’s. Otis was king. He came on in bright red with a driving rhythm and tore the place apart. Kids were dancing all over the arena, making muddy air out of the dust and fog.
The rest of that evening’s program included Hugh Masadela (who wasn’t up to his small club performances), Laura Nyro (whom we could have done without), Booker T. and the M.C.’s. (almost unnoticeable, but they provided Otis with his background), and the Byrds.
POLITICS The Byrds must be a studio group. Their live performances just don’t come up to their recordings. But David Crosby, leader of the group, felt he had some social commitments to fulfill after Country Joe, and spoke out more politically than did any other performer.
After concurring with Paul McCartney’s recent statement that LSD could end war if ingested by the proper authorities, he went on to say, “The TV will edit this out, like they’ll cut all the groovy things Country Joe said, but Pm gonna say it anyway. John F. Kennedy was shot from a number of different directions by a number of different guns. The facts have been suppressed, witnesses killed—and this is your country, ladies and gentlemen.”
CHANCRE Sunday afternoon’s Ravi Shanker concert (pronounced chancre over the PA) was probably the outstanding event of the festival. It was more than his music. He got a reception that exceeded anything given any of the other performers and the love and respect seemed mutual.
Sunday evening brought the festival to a close with the audience still crying for more. The Blues Project led off, dedicating “Flute Thing” “as always to peace and an end to this dirty and dishonorable war.” Their new group doesn’t seem quite to have gotten together yet, though they have great potential. Right now they sound like they’re doing somebody else’s songs.
They were followed by the low point of the festival, The Group with No Name, a group of middle-aged teenyboppers. A list of suggested names immediately went the rounds of the press area: The Bummer, The Mistake, The Shits.
Big Brother did another fine set, and The Buffalo Springfield (with David Crosby) and The Grateful Dead both performed well, but the The Who and The Jimmy Hendrix Experience were outstanding.
The Who are more than great musicians they put on one hell of a show which climaxes with the group destroying drums, guitars, mikes, lights and the stage in general and brought perplexed and angry stagehands running from the wings to salvage what equipment they could.
But even this was topped by Jimmy Hendrix. Hendrix, too, is a fine musician, working with a beautiful blues voice and exotically complex-electronics. He plays absolutely every part of the guitar with every part of his body, and to the extent that he resorts to gimmickry (playing with his teeth and behind his back) it only seems to further demonstrate his complete control over his instrument.
He closed the “the English and American anthems combined," a wild electronic version of “Wild Thing," during which he humped his guitar into the amps and tore everything apart all over again, burning his guitar and throwing the pieces into an audience which was climbing all over itself just to get a look.
Then the evening and the festival closed with the vocal magic of the Mamas and the Papas and the fairgrounds were still.
After all this I still find it difficult to sum the festival up. It was excellent, the best that could be done within its form.
Perhaps the program could have been more inclusive—there were no Motown groups and it would have been good to include some of the older practitioners like Chuck Berry. But this was just the first such festival and others may broaden the scope.
Most of the participants couldn’t have had a better time. Acid was passed out freely, making it relatively easy to get past the ushers for most of the performances. The quality of the music was overwhelming. The light show was excellent (Head Lights).
And throughout the festival people were dancing all over the fairgrounds. The music could be heard as far away as Pacific Grove, and, as Tommy Smothers said, introducing Big Brother, “The hills are always greener on the other side of the grass.”
