ah. seems the special interest i've now had for 23 months, the only one that still consumes a portion of my mind at all times, just turned six today, and not a single one of the several lists I have to keep track of such anniversaries bothered to warn me of this early enough that I could actually draw something for it in time

autistic expression in a neurotypical art gallery
this morning i thought i would talk about AUTHOR VOICE specifically when it comes to AUTISM. as autistic author i have learned to turn the dial up and down when writing characters. rose from CAMP DAMASCUS is basically exactly where i rest on spectrum and this shows in a few ways
in roses internal monolog you will see that she uses phrases like ‘my friend’ to talk about folks where neurotypical buckaroos might just use first name. or with her parents she will think of them in FIRST NAME instead of ‘mom’ or 'dad’. this is way many autistic buds THINK
to explain this trot I will say it is not a way of disrespect or anything like that, it is simply that these terms are TECHNICALLY all correct and interchangeable. socially, autistic buds often learn to mask by pinpointing WHEN to use these words that logically the same to us.
in CAMP DAMASCUS i left these things in to create character, but if you go back in my writing you will see it. in TINGLERS this is because they are honest in PUNK ROCK way. unfiltered expressions. in earlier novels its admittedly just because i did not realize it was unusual yet
point is, ROSES internal dialog in camp damascus is neurodivergent and i CHOSE not to change her thought process in this way, because we are BOTH autistic. this can be a risk because some neurotypical buckaroos will read it and just think ‘what a strange way. this is bad writing’
camp damascus reviews are actually very good it is a very well received book by any measure, but you will see some folks kind of making fun of these traits (i do not think they would do this if they knew it was authentic autistic way BUT we cannot educate EVERYONE on this trot)
POINT IS i am now faced with an artistic choice in later books. do i write with my AUTISTIC voice even though some neurotypical readers find it awkward? in technical sense some readers WILL think each book is better if i eliminate my autistic tendencies in later edits
my advice is this: character voice IS SO IMPORTANT, but a big part of writing is finding the place between YOUR voice and your CHARACTER voice where both are authentically existing in some way. like acting, you are always bringing something of yourself even when you 'disappear'
when writing BURY YOUR GAYS i did not plan to make misha on the spectrum, but misha is part of me and i am on the spectrum. what i have realized over time is that ALL OF MY CHARACTERS will have these traits in some way because i wrote them, and i will never disappear completely
so when edits came for BURY YOUR GAYS and misha, i took that dial and i turned it farther towards neurotypical than i did with rose, BUT I DID NOT TURN IT OFF COMPLETELY. in literal sense, i left some of those ‘my friends’, because i will always bring MY VOICE to my art as well
i am proud of being on the spectrum. while my voice may not hit every convention of ‘good writing’ it is authentically ‘MY writing’ and i think that is more important than any outside checklist for ‘correct literary expression’. and guess what THE RESULTS ARE IN, MY BOOKS DO WELL
so if you are an artist getting feedback or reviews, consider which parts you can LEARN FROM and grow and change, and which parts are just AUTHENTICALLY YOU. because while your honesty may defy conventions and seem unusual to some folks, IT IS OFTEN WHAT MAKES YOUR ART SING
feel free to turn that dial marked 'YOUR TRUE VOICE' up and down when it makes sense. i do this all the time. but i have long since decided i will never turn that dial OFF completely. your voice is your POWER buckaroo, dont be afraid to sing with it

.....colouring is so boring!!! Or maybe its me being tired and mid having a very sluggish brain week and forcing myself to make any progress at all on the drawings. But like, not knowing what im doing and just being really bored w it means everything ends up sloppy!! Like its sort of ok if you squint or look from far away but its sooo messy.... Levels of messy where its like did i waste a few hours making this worse? (I've saved a different file of just the lines and one of just the flat colours lol just in case i really hate the shading etc i do) Bleh.
Maybe ill go sleep rn and sort some other life things then uhhhhh either do the backgrounds or try fix the face next time which should be more interesting because itll be hard and annoying.
Man rn i really wish sketches did well!! I know they dont and ill be happier w it anyway once its all coloured in but man this process is just not that enjoyable to me tonight!!

Finally have an official cover and title!  There were some REALLY good guesses as to what the title could have been, but I can at least explain my reasons why I went with Replica.  TLDR you can still call it Future Booty Shaker if you want. Usual info dump below:
There are several reasons why I chose Replica as the final name.  The most obvious being that Omega is Donnie’s blatant attempt at replicating himself in digital form.
The second being that this comic is in itself is an attempt at replicating the vibe and setup of the film’s opening as closely as possible.  Those first 4:05 have literally become the bible for this story and I have already had to make vast changes based off of tiny details that weren’t noticed until later on.
Ironically the cut full opening just dropped today and I do have some feelings I’d like to address.  It’s obvious how substantially different the two openings are from each other.  As cool as it was to see everyone kicking butt, I will admit I still like the final version a lot better.  Sure it’s shorter, but it felt far more personal and intimate than the action packed cut version, and THAT’S the sort of vibe I want to replicate in this comic.
At its core, this isn’t a story about fighting a bunch of Krang, it’s a story about a family fighting their own personal battles before an apocalyptic backdrop and Replica is a vain attempt at retaining that feeling while building a story around it. Will I be successful?  Who knows.  I will definitely be drawing reference from the cut boards especially the appearance of their colony.  I’m happy my hunch was right that they were stationed beneath the Statue of Liberty, that was already a part of my story haha.
My runner up title would have been “Fall of the TMNT” however I felt it was a little too on the nose.  Though it did make for a fun dichotomy with “Rise of the TMNT”s title.   Anyways that’s my info dump.  Feel free to still hashtag Future Bootyyy Shaker, I know I will.

Bang Christopher Chan
DID I JUST HEAR BEST DAD IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD
This man was born to be a dad istg
He'd be so amazing when you're pregnant, like he'd ask his mom for advice, give you belly rubs if your ask and will willingly lend his entire closet to you.
Would be so supportive through the birth process, is not disgusted or anything because he is him.
"She looks just like you."
Would be just a teensy bit overprotective, just a teensy bit.
"And you will bring her back by 7 yes? Oh and what's your address for unrelated purposes?"
*sends the address to Minho incase he needs to murder anyone*
Would be so comforting when she gets her period
"you know I used to do this to your mother.", While massaging her back.
The baby would grow up multilingual and Chan would be so smug about it
"my daughter is my second producer
Lee Minho/Lee Know
Would have such mixed emotions when you tell him you're pregnant
On the one hand A PERSON MADE UP OF BOTH OF YOU? WOAH
On the other hand OH SHIT A PERSON WHO HAS BOTH OUR GENES
Cooks all your weird ass cravings for you but not before giving you a side eye
"Alright y'all are gonna get a sibling." *Is talking to the cats*
Buys everything cat themed
"baby what if the baby is a dog person?"
Y'all have twins, a boy and a girl (manifesting my twin dad Minho fantasies)
Would dance for them when they're babies and would get elated when they try to copy him
Pouts when their first word is mama
Brags so much about them
"I mean they are MY spawn, obviously they're better at dance than your kid, Susan"
Seo Changbin
GIRL DAD GIRL DAD GIRL DAD
So elated when you tell him you're pregnant
PREGNANT CUDDLES KZKSNSNJ
Would be a 100% on board with lifting your belly to save your back
When you find out it's a girl, he straight on sobs.
"I CAN'T HANDLE ANOTHER PAIR OF ADORABLE YN EYES LOOKING AT ME"
Holds the baby extra carefully in his buff ass arms
She looks like you part 2
Tea parties with her are serious buisness for him
"jagi can't you see im currently discussing with the princess about her magical dragon I'll do the dishes later."
Would probably ask her if she wants to go to the gym with her dad and when she says yes he'd be so happy
"you're better than your mother she can't even lift her ass up and go to the gym"
Hwang Hyunjin
When I say this man would paint you a portrait when you tell him you're pregnant-
HE'LL PAINT YOU A FUCKING PORTRAIT
So sweet with you all throughout but also a nervous wreck
Much like me
Would love to paint your belly if you allow him to
Would try your weird cravings with you
And actually like them
Let's not pretend like Hyun doesn't do the pregnant woman pose everyday
Cries so hard when your baby is born
He doesn't mind the gender or anything, but when he found out it's a girl-
"GUYS ITS A MINI Y/N"
She looks like you part 3
Such a clumsy mess when it comes to taking care of her
ART CLASSES ART CLASSES ART CLASSES
"Darling, we painted this for you."
Han Jisung
Immediately freezes when you tell him
Jisung.exe has stopped working
"wait so the protection didn't.... Protect?"
Now Y/N.exe has stopped working trying to figure out whether you actually used protection or not
Talks to your belly all day
Treats the baby like a gossip partner
"girl you won't believe what Hyunjin did today."
"what did he do?"
"yn shush I'm talking to our baby girl."
Is your personal high school cheerleader during the birth
"jagi you are slaying right now you can do this."
Cries when baby is born part 3
Calls her a co-producer part 2
Spoils her shitless
She has him wrapped around her finger, much like her mother :)
Making playlists with her is his love language
Lee Felix Yongbok
Did I just hear breeding kink
Cries when you tell him
Bakes so many brownies when you tell him like one time that you're craving his brownies
Makes your weird cravings part 3
Idk what it is with me and DanceRacha making all your weird cravings
Runs you baths, with bath salts, bath bombs, scented candles and massages your aching muscles I WILL DIE RIGHT NOW
Is the best during the birth, holds your hand allowing you to squeeze it as hard as you want
Dresses baby up like the fashionista she is
Is so amazed and ecstatic when the baby gets an Aussie accent
"JAGI SHE JUST SAID BREKKIE"
Kim Seungmin
Tsundere daddy meow
Will literally melt like his face will be like 🥺
Buys all the cute stuff on day one
I'm talking cradles, blinkies, toys, bonnets for some reason
"of course she needs a ponyo outfit darling come on"
Tones down his teasing a bit
Still makes fun of your penguin walk tho
And if you cry, he will comfort you and never forgive himself for it
Is kinda disgusted by the birth process but he's a strong soldier
Cries when baby is born part 4
Like Kim Seungmin crying is a real thing chat
Singing lessons are free for her, and she has her dad's angel voice!!
Also inherits her dad's roasting style, and she's the only one who can roast him back hehe

Sings to your belly at night when he thinks you're asleep
Secretly hopes baby will have his dimple

uh, is it too late to make slay the princess long quiet (and narrator) designs..? the voices designs will get designed soon! ((narrator design is basically a spoiler for those who haven't seen or played to the end of the game so beware!)) theres more info for the design and the narrator's design below along with the full image!! - - - took me so long to actually start drawing out my design tbh! mostly a mix of procrastination and other things honestly!. anyways! you may notice how my design differs from what others designed the long quiet as and the official vague renderings of him! this is very much on purpose if you couldnt tell as there is an explanation for this. - (sorry in advanced for the very odd and choppy explanation, im not very good at explaining things so i'll probably draw what i mean later to compensate) - the long quiet in the first loop(s) looks like this, but with each new part to that specific loop he'll start transforming, looking more bird like (like what we have to go off of from art from the game) each time. this also happens in the void area! (i know its called the long quiet also but i call it the void.) the design was my first idea of the game before getting the game and knowing what happened but i kept the design, just not the reason on why he looks like this! basically my thought process on this before was basically " guy who was sketchy to begin with got cursed? cool! but he has to slay a princess due to him being an outcast and his curse? better!! " it doesnt hold up when you know what happened / happens in the end though but yeah.
Tumblr media
the narrator is based off what we get from the mirror when the player obtains 5 vessels for the shifting mound, except with all seeing eyes i guess.. he stays near the long quiet to observe in each loop yet out of sight. of course his voice is in the long quiets head so distance isnt accounted for when he's talking! he of course can see the voices as well with those big ol' eyes.
Tumblr media
aaand heres the full image! shoutout to anyone who can see the very visible but suppose to be hidden details! (they where very last minute..) also ignore the odd neck feathers, i was gonna add more to the chest but forgot up until now but i might fix it later!!

Hi! I finally got the chance to read Aurora a bit ago. It's a wonderful story--all I was expecting and better! I was particularly amazed and delighted by the artwork and visual mechanics used to tell the story, so I wrote a post to yell about how cool it is and break some of it down. (No criticism, just praise.) I'm mostly a hobbyist, so I'm hoping I've done it justice.
That said: zero pressure to read it or respond to this ask. Normally I wouldn't send it since I tagged, but I know Tumblr's notifs are a mess and things get lost very easily. I've been in both the "one (1) word of praise will feed me for a year" and the "oh gods don't talk about my writing/art because anything that seems Off will break my brain" modes before, and I absolutely don't want to push or make you uncomfortable!
If you are comfortable, however, I wanted to ask about your use of what I'm assuming are Screen and blending modes in sound effect words. (I'm only guessing that's the technique, though, so I could be totally wrong about how it's done! I'm mostly experienced in image manipulation in Photoshop.) Making them semi-transparent over the actions is genius :) What inspired you to do that, and are there specific techniques you use to make it work?
Same questions go for using specific colors to distinguish different characters' words and actions. I really noticed it in the cave sequence with Falst and Dainix, since their colors are so vivid in the dark (ex. Falst's little swats and Dainix's swooping kick at 1.20.9). It lends excellent clarity to busy scenes.
Thanks! Have a lovely day, enjoy your break, and happy holidays <3
You're correct about the technique! "Screen" is the blend mode I use most often for sound effects. I stumbled on it mostly through trial and error - I love how sound effects add depth to a comic panel, but it's very easy for them to obscure the art in a way I find counterproductive, so "Screen" lets me put the sound effect directly over the origin of the sound while still letting it be visible through the word. Early chapters didn't have it as much-
Tumblr media
Most of the sound effects in early chapters are just solid colors with reduced opacity if I'm feeling fancy. But I started figuring it out around chapter 8 and 9, because Falst is kind of a sound-effect-heavy guy, especially in his fight scenes.
Tumblr media
In order to make sure they don't impede the visibility of the action, I'll often soft-erase the top or bottom half of the SFX to reduce its opacity while still leaving it readable.
Tumblr media
I'll usually double that up with an outline on the SFX so it's still readable. This is an especially important consideration if the SFX goes over an area of the background that's very bright or glowing.
Tumblr media
Color-coding the speed lines and SFX to the character or force causing them isn't a hard and fast rule, but I like using it (in part because it's a habit from the OSP illustrations, where every character has a single pop of color in their lineart) mostly because it sort of codes every sound to make it clear where it's emanating from, or the general feeling of the sound. Since I normally do character-colors for SFX, something like this stands out more jarringly-
Tumblr media
Which it's supposed to, but a big lightning strike doesn't register as anything too worrying because it's just Tess up to her usual shenanigans.
Tumblr media
It's also very useful for magic effects, because each form of magic has its own associated palette.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And when I had a very complicated fight scene in a dark environment, I used the texture pattern I'd already made for the monster to color its SFX, so when I Screened them onto the panels they didn't obscure too much while still communicating "this is something else."
Tumblr media
Changing the weight, lined-vs-not-lined, and opacity of the SFX words also helps to communicate that not every sound has the same feeling. A strong motion is solid and aggressive, but a crackling, unstable sound is more ephemeral and staticky.
Tumblr media
It's definitely been a process of learning as I go - looking back at the earlier chapters I can actually see when I first tried various tricks I now use regularly, like doubling and distorting an SFX to produce the effect of a camera-shaking impact. I haven't really seen any other comics that do it like I do, probably because most other comics follow a more traditional production pipeline where text bubbles and sound effects get locked into the composition early, before the inking stage, because traditional physical comics don't have digital-art layers to play with. Adding sound effects to a page is almost the last thing I do before exporting them, and that only works because digital art and layers allow for a ton of flexibility.

DRAGONS AND DAFFODILS
Tumblr media
PAIRING. tattoo artist!dan heng x gn!reader
WORD COUNT. 1,438
WARNINGS. 16+, slightly suggestive content? nothing explicit
SUMMARY. you impulsively walk into a tattoo shop, see a gorgeous man with blue eyes and a dragon tattoo along his arm, and immediately decide you need to get a tattoo from him now.
SOF’S NOTE. been wanting to get another tattoo so this is a random drabble that stemmed from that HDKAKFH hope y’all enjoy this lil au :> lets drool over tatted dan heng together <3
Tumblr media
It wasn't your first tattoo, but just from walking in here, you knew it’d certainly be your most memorable.
You weren’t normally one to impulsively head into a tattoo shop and ask if they took walk-ins, but it was a random Friday night and this place happened to catch your eye as you were on your way home. The moment you walked inside, you instantly saw a gorgeous man with dark hair and a dragon tattoo and new you had come to the right place.
“Are you nervous?” he asked, glancing at the expression on your face as he wiped down the area of your upper thigh that he was about to work on.
You nodded. “A little.” But most likely not for the reasons he was thinking.
The man, who introduced himself as Dan Heng, gave you a comforting smile. It was charming enough to make your stomach flutter ever so slightly. You were definitely just a tad bit nervous. But it was more because of the pretty man giving you the tattoo, not the prospect of the tattoo itself.
“If you’re nervous, just know you can always ask for a break or have me slow down,” promised Dan Heng, giving you a gentle squeeze on your leg. “Remember, you control the pace here.”
You weren’t quite sure how you managed not to flush at his words and somehow articulated a coherent response.
“Thank you. I appreciate it,” you said, a smile on your face disguising your inner turmoil. He was so gentle, yet firm. Confident, but quiet. While you knew it was only a tattoo you were getting, you couldn’t help but fantasize a little.
Dan Heng hummed in response, transferring his design onto your thigh with the thermal stencil paper in the placement he viewed best. He took a step back and nodded, then gestured for you to stand in front of the mirror.
“How is the placement?”
You shifted around and admired his line art on your body. Even though it was just the stencil so far and not the finished product, you could already tell it would look even better than you asked for. “Perfect!”
Bouncing in excitement, you made your way back to the tattoo bed and Dan Heng got his needles and ink ready.
“You seem less nervous now,” he commented with a laugh, noticing the way you rushed over to get back into position for him to tattoo you.
You grinned sheepishly. “I guess seeing your design on me took the nerves away. Now I’m just excited!”
“I am glad to hear that.”
He held the tattoo pen in one hand and grabbed a clean cloth to wipe the excess ink. Soon, Dan Heng began the process. His gloved hand held your thigh firmly in place as the other began to work its magic. You stared at the gorgeous art on his arm to attempt to distract yourself from the inevitable pain and slight discomfort.
True to his word, he checked up on you often, asking if you needed him to slow down, and obliging when you asked for a small break. He got you some water and snacks as you propped yourself up on the tattoo bed for a small breather.
“We are almost done,” he promised, staring at the area just below your hip as he admired his work. “You’re doing so good.”
Your cheeks heated up at his compliment. While you have gotten tattoos before, you have never been praised like this by a tattoo artist. You wondered if he was like this to all his clients.
It was wishful thinking, but part of you hoped he wasn’t.
“So, does your tattoo hold any sort of meaning?” you asked, admiring the black and green inks of the long dragon as you took a sip of your drink.
He chuckled. “Which one?” Dan Heng pulled the black short sleeve of his shirt up to show you the full face on his shoulder and back. “If you’re talking about the dragon, then yes, I suppose it does.”
You blinked at him a few times, urging him to go on.
Dan Heng smiled and continued, “In Chinese culture, different colored dragons symbolize different things.”
Nodding, you eyed the blue and green hues along the serpentine body of the dragon.
“This in particular represents new life— That spring is coming.” He ran a finger down the length of his tattoo, drawing your eyes to the curvature of his arm muscles. “I’m particularly fond of the idea of new beginnings. As if we don’t need to be held back by our pasts.”
Though he didn’t elaborate, he had already opened up so much with just those words. You were grateful for this moment of vulnerability and connection, regardless on whether or not it was with a stranger you had just met.
“And does the tattoo you’re getting today mean something special to you?” asked Dan Heng, watching as you laid back down and exposed your upper thigh to him, preparing to continue the session. For a second too long his eyes travelled along the length of your legs, lingering on the smooth expanse of skin before turning his attention to the unfinished tattoo.
You smirked to yourself, purposely shifting the position of your leg to draw his attention back to it. As you predicted, Dan Heng’s gaze followed.
After a moment, you considered his question. While you didn’t come into the tattoo shop with a design in mind that symbolized something important to you, you felt that all tattoos were special because of the story around it.
“Not particularly,” you admitted, glancing at the beginnings of a beautifully drawn bundle of daffodils. “I mean, I’m aware of the symbolism that accompanies this flower, of course— Rebirth and new beginnings.” You smiled cheekily. “Uncannily similar to yours, but completely unintentional. I promise you that.”
He returned your smile with an amused look of his own. “A fateful coincidence, perhaps.”
“Exactly!” you laughed. “Still, the symbolism is not why I wanted it. I just think the flower is pretty and, ultimately, it does represent something I wouldn’t regret having drawn permanently on my body.” It was a simply thought, really. You thought the meanings behind people’s tattoos were sacred and special, but sometimes there was nothing more to it. And that was a good enough reason to get a tattoo as well. “But I will definitely always look back and remember the story of our first encounter whenever I see it.”
Dan Heng nodded, gloves back on as his hand rested on your thigh. “I find the experience of receiving a tattoo can, at times, be as significant as the intended meaning behind it.”
“I agree,” you said, wishing his gloves were off so you could feel the tips of his fingers against your bare skin instead. “And this will certainly be an experience I’ll never forget.”
“Good.” He smiled secretively, as if he could see right through your inner thoughts. Almost teasingly, he softly kneaded your thigh in a small, circular motion. “I won’t forget, either.” There was a sincerity in his tone that made you fully believe what he said. “Now, are you ready to continue?”
You nodded eagerly, already thinking of how pretty the finished outcome would look. “Yes, please!”
Putting all his focus into his art, Dan Heng turned on his tattoo gun and resumed inking your hip and thigh area. With soft and delicate strokes, he created a piece with body and movement. The petals were moving, not stagnant, and he wasn’t even fully finished.
“You should be my last client for the night,” he said quietly as he worked on his final touches, breaking the deep silence that settled between you. For a brief moment, Dan Heng looked up from his craft to meet your gaze. “After this, perhaps we could talk more over a late night food run?”
Your eyes widened, not expecting his sudden offer, but ecstatic nonetheless. You smiled as you said, “If I say yes, will you tell me more about your tattoos?”
He nodded. “Whatever you want to know.”
“I want to learn it all.” Your gaze roamed all over his body, lingering on the toned biceps of his arms, meticulously adorned with the length of the dragon, before landing on the defined muscles of his chest hidden behind his shirt.
With a knowing smile, Dan Heng seemed to understand the hidden implications behind your innocent words. His heavy-lidded eyes seemed to examine all parts of your body, only returning the favor.
“I’m due time,” he promised, “you'll learn everything there is to know.”

I don’t ask this expecting you have THE answer or that there is one, but I follow a non Palestinian white man on insta (in addition to many Palestinian folks in diaspora and in Palestine) who mostly shares things from Palestinian ppl/sources.
He has several times criticized / shared criticism of charity dinners, music festivals etc raising funds for Gaza with the perspective of, it’s not appropriate to have a dance party or dinner while people are undergoing genocide, but also that in this moment, art isn’t resistance because there needs to be physical resistance, blockades of weapons, etc.
I’ve seen this echoed from some others especially critiquing white folks trying to claim “joy is resistance” right now, which makes sense to me, but i also wonder if it’s reductive to say art or music is not resistance because I feel like it can have a lot of power especially alongside social movements… was wondering if you had thoughts on this or perhaps knew where I could look to learn more.
Please ignore if this is too much, and thank you
I think things like writing and illustration and music feeds into the spirit of revolution and is necessary in that way. You have to energize the masses somehow, and to ensure that your message spreads as far as possible. A good way is to make art, or to sing a song, or write a story.
That's why Wisam Rafeedi wrote his book and different resistance factions make posters and videos — to spread their ideas and garner support among the masses.
It's not as important as putting yourself in immediate physical danger to incapacitate the colonial entity — but I think for Palestinians and other colonized peoples, they do need to make art to really process their thoughts. Of course there's a difference when a Palestinian in Palestine, a Palestinian in the diaspora, a nonPalestinian ally of color, and a NonPalestinian white ally do this. I won't deny that there's a nuance when it comes to this.
But writers who write about Palestinian Liberation historically have been assassinated because of how they participate in liberation actions and also spread ideas of liberation themselves. I don't know which white guy you're talking about but I feel like this is mostly a conversation that should be led by Palestinians if we're talking about Palestine because they understand the nuance of saying statements like "the only resistance is physical." I understand what he's saying to an extent but that does erase a lot of Palestinian resistance the past few decades by making sweeping statements like "art is not resistance" and kind of simplifies the issue at hand.
Charity dinners and galas and that stuff... I don't know what I think about them, I think that people are going to do it either way so my opinion doesn't really matter. Hey, if you're going to raise thousands of dollars for Palestine, I'm not going to stop you at all. I personally think you should try to avoid posting pictures and stuff like that from the gala itself if you're going to host one just out of courtesy.
I guess overall what I'm trying to say, art resistance becomes physical a lot of the time. I think its really reductive to say "art isn't resistance" and also personally insulting considering I have family members and friends who were journalists, creative writers, and artists and killed/targeted for their work.
Here's this article by Fargo Tbahkhi about the role of writing during a genocide that might be a good read. They also mention how Israeli propaganda (calling Palestinians "human animals"/"Amalek" as an example) is specifically a use of culture and writing to energize people to commit genocide. An especially poignant part that I completely agree with, and am trying to get at:
Palestine requires that we abandon this catharsis. Nobody should get out of our work feeling purged, clean. Nobody should live happily during the war. Our readers can feel that way when liberation is the precondition for our work, and not the dream. When it is the place we stand, and not the place we shake ourselves towards. In this way, what the long middle of revolution requires, what Palestine requires, is an approach to writing whose primary purpose is to gather others up with us, to generate within them an energy which their bodies cannot translate into anything but revolutionary movement. This is what Boal modeled for us in his theatrical experiments, which were dedicated to empowering audiences to act, to participate in a creative struggle to envision and embody alternatives. For Boal, theater was not revolution, but it was a rehearsal for the revolution, meant to gather communities together in that rehearsal. Creative work readies us for material work, by offering a space to try out strategies, think through contradictions, remind us of our own agency.

"Art, Furries, God" is one of the most transcendentally amazing videos on YouTube, and in terms of your more longform video essay style content, what I would consider to be your "magnum opus" on that front. It is a genuine work of art. What was your creative process when making the video? How much thought went into each aspect of its creation? Was it carefully calculated, or was it more spontaneous?
(Sorry if I sound like a pretentious dweeb here)
I had the whole thing charted out from the start, I was inspired by Jacob Geller's piecemeal analysis style. I think part of what made it work is that I really did have all of these disparate analysis nuggets come together in my head in real life after I saw Everything Everywhere All At Once, just as I described in the video. It's even in roughly chronological order, I had been rotating The Mollusk in my head for yeeeears before I wrote that video, JerryTerry was another clue I got a little later, and EEAAO hit me with the entire thesis like a thunderbolt. So I guess it was spontaneous in a way, but it was a long time in the making.

okay but the flashback scene
with Three and the armour
and Murderbot refusing to take it
Murderbot is so indignant and frustrated and unwilling to address why in its narrative. it doesn't understand why it didn't take the armour if Three was offering them.
honestly i'm not entirely sure why either. so i guess this rambly excuse for meta is my attempt to work through the possible reasons?
the armour is Three's. Murderbot is not going to take one of Three's handful of personal possessions, even if Three has yet to fully grok that it's allowed to have personal possessions. it's like taking candy from a baby, basically.
the armour is Barrish-Estranza branded. Murderbot does not like branding.
ART's made it its own special missions clothes. the security consultant outfit from NE, the new enviro-suit in SC. it has its own, tailor made clothes now.
... so of course, it doesn't need or want the mass produced uniformity of SecUnit armour anymore
especially since, as it's mentioned a couple times in the past, but really drives home this time... SecUnit armour isn't as good as human armour. it's just extra shielding for the fleshy bits.
Murderbot is finally starting to process the trauma which was the sheer shittiness of its governed existence. that's what REDACTED was all about. and the armour was just one more part of that, one more trigger, one more reminder.
and i think the answer is, all of these above. a big complex jumble that Murderbot doesn't want to look at and pick apart because it's too painful right now.
but it's confusing. because before it wanted armour. armour kept it safe. physically, in battle. emotionally, hiding itself from the humans.
in All System's Red it says, "I love you armour, and I'm never leaving you again."
But it did leave that armour. and it's grown beyond it.
it couldn't fit back inside if it tried.
