Mistletoe kiss number two!! Honestly one of my favourites of the bunch, I don’t draw these two nearly as often as I should so I had a blast doing this one!

What bothers me abt saltburn has nothing to do with the shock value scenes or the gore because neither of which were particularly singular. Shameless had a very similar grave scene and no one lost their shit over that so- But I digress. What bothers me is that after Felix dies the story completely falls apart. When he is alive the story is clearly Ollie's obsession with Felix and the undying loyalty that is built on delusion. This makes sense. This is a story that you can clearly see play out. But with Ollie still continuing to obsess over Saltburn and scheme his way back into the house, playing the longest of long games almost to get there, it feels like he wasnt even obsessed with Felix so much as the house??? Which makes no sense??? The story collapses in on itself because the authors didnt want to write a compelling movie, they wanted to freak everyone out. Which they failed in. The only particularly disturbing scene as far as I was aware was the bathtub scene and even still Im pretty sure there are about 1000000 others out there like it. The movie was bad. I wish it wasnt because it would have been really cool to see it live up to the hype it got.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Persuasion has my favorite premise of all of Jane Austen's novels
Anne Elliot as a character speaks to my soul. She feels tremendous guilt for a decision she made eight years ago. Her life is lonely, as she doesn't really have anyone she can truly confide in despite being surrounded by people. So she swallows her pain, the yearning she feels deep in her soul, and vows that if nothing else at least she'll be helpful.
And of course she is reunited with Frederick Wentworth (the one that got away) who seems to hate her now, and she just keeps going. She keeps being kind and supporting her loved ones while slowly carving out a life for herself. There's something about her classic heroism that just feels so attainable. I don't have Elizabeth Bennett's wit, or Jane Bennett's unwavering belief in the goodness of everyone, or even Elinor's constant composure. But I can be like Anne and just keep moving forward attempting to be helpful
Of course it all works out in the end, and Anne is finally surrounded by people who truly appreciate her, even if she had to wait an extra eight years. Others have observed the fairy tale quality of the ending, and perhaps that's why it speaks to me. The idea that if you just keep doing your best and being kind, you'll eventually find happiness

obviously i enjoy cute happy cathartic chainshipping stuff but personally. to me. one of the reasons its so compelling is that they are two deeply incompatible people, trying to cling to each other anyway.
Lawrence, with his need for control and order, who was devoted enough to his family he was willing to cut off his own foot to try and save them, and Adam, who seemingly has no real direction in life, who cut off his parents for an unknown reason and who, in the original script anyway, was shown to be passively suicidal. a surgeon who has friends that are lawyers, and a freelance photographer who has friends like fucking Scott Tibbs.
they cannot be more different from each other. they're like puzzle pieces that don't fit, but by god are they going to try and force them together anyway because if they don't they'll lose the only other person in the world who understands what happened to them in that bathroom. and they can't afford to lose that they need that. they need the reassurance that what happened to them was real and that they made the right decisions and that they're okay now.
they would be messy and they would argue all the time and they would piss each other off to no end but they would be so incredibly dependent on each other that they would put in the effort to be together anyway. do u get it do u see my vision

Something I've been thinking about is how Patrick O'Brian manages so skillfully to write characters whose actions contradict their beliefs, which I think is honestly a big part of why his characters feel so real. Mostly with Stephen and Jack—e.g., and perhaps most notably, Stephen has notably leftist sympathies (honestly I have no idea how to characterize his politics in period terms) who nonetheless becomes very comfortable with his rise to the landed gentry, while Jack is a card-carrying Tory who much of the time sympathizes far more with working class sailors and farmers than with the upper classes—but I'm sure he does it to a lesser degree with some of his minor characters (James Dillon, while perhaps not precisely minor, comes to mind), and I love that he's able to do that, especially the way in which he embeds it in the narrative. We see how they're all unreliable narrators of themselves; we understand how they want to be seen and how that does and doesn't coincide with the reality, but most importantly, this isn't presented as something reprehensible, just as a part of their own humanity. They are not their expectations for themselves, but they don't need to be those expectations to be beloved.

Important!
Can I ask for your honest opinion about my watermarking methods? The one where I have my username tiled on my art HAHA
Should i
A) Keep it?
Pros: It looks like lined book texture which is pretty cool. Not of a lot of artists do it like this, so you'd pretty much immediately know it's me.
Cons: It can be disruptive and distracting, especially when its a comic, with text you have to read.
B) Go back to using a regular watermark?
Pros: More immersive experience with the comics, less disruption
Cons: Art stealers/reposters will get their grubby mits on my yummy and tasty art like its a drop of ambrosia in their mundane mortal world
At the end, I'll decide for myself, but I value your opinion as my audience, so let me know if you have any suggestions!
