And then, someone had to order a plate of Assorted Sushi in a buffet. Apparently that person is no buffet connoisseur opting for Ikura Gunkan (Salmon Roe Sushi), Sweet Beancurd (Inari) and Salmon Sushi with Mayonnaise (Sake Aburi). All these items come with rice and fills your stomach up fast which is a no-no for me.
The Hotate Mentaiyaki is a complimentary dish given out to all buffet diners. Each of us gets a hot baked half shell scallop topped with creamy and savoury seasoned cod roe with mayonnaise. Too bad it is only a one-time treat.
Colleague sitting opposite me said her grilled King Oyster Mushroom with Teriyaki Sauce (Eringi Teri) is tough to tear through. Though I have been here many times, I have never ordered this item so she is the guinea pig here. :D
Our order of Char-Grilled Chicken Mid Wing (Teba) came with just one wing for each person. Crispy golden brown skin on the outside and succulent chicken on the inside. The wings are a bit smaller this trip compared to the ones I had last year, nonetheless still delectable.

Addiction Aquatic Development: Arriving mid-evening, routing around the water tanks with sealife, we opted to bypass the high-end restaurants to find the takeout sushi being marked down. After paying cash at checkout, we enjoyed chutoro, scallops, tuna gunkan, ikura don and assorted nigiri at the stand-up tables. Walked along dark streets to and from the venue, the nearby Second Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market is an early morning neighbourhood. Was recommended One Sushi (一口寿司) by my sis so I thought I did give this place a try. It is located behind Northpoint City at Yishun Town Square. All the yellow plates on the belt cost S$1.00 each if you go at the below timings else it’s S$1.50 per plate.
Monday to Thursday – 11.30am to 10pm
Friday to Sunday – 2.30pm to 5.30pm
They were celebrating their one year anniversary and the Mentaiko Fries was just one dollar (Usual S$3.80). You order it via the iPad and the food is delivered via this “sushi car” which travel above the sushi conveyor belt. The car will ask you to press the button on it to return it to the kitchen after you have done collecting the food.
Shako Sushi (Mantis Shrimp) is a rare sight on a budget restaurant menu so I grabbed it. This delicacy appears in late spring or early summer and disappears off the menus after a few short weeks. The texture is meatier than shrimps and more closely resembled lobster.
Ikura Gunkan or battleship sushi with salmon roe is my favourite. The glistening salty roes are packed with omega-3 oils and exploded like fireworks in the cavity of the mouth. Of the 20 plates I eaten that day, about 4 plates are of this variety.

Themed-Day: A Decade of FYYCA
Today marks the 10-year anniversary of FYYCA (Again, for a perspective on how long ago in this card game that was ago...Mermails were released one month later). As with prior years, here’s an overview of the past year’s posts, with the top three posts (in descending order) of each respective month:
October: The King of D., Sentence of Doom, Vampire Fraulein
November: Speedroid Ultra Hound, Gizmek Taniguku, the Immobile Intellect, Link Party
December: Magician’s Salvation, Monster Reborn Reborn, Gunkan Suship Ikura
January: Time Wizard of Tomorrow, Egyptian God Slime, Fengli the Soldrapom
February: Appliancer Laundry Dragon, Tour Guide From the Underworld (alternate art), Frightfur Tiger
March: The First Darklord, Number C1000: Numerounius, Vampire Voivode
April: Leafplace Plaice, Earthbound Geoglyph, Zoodiac Bunnyblast
May: Illusion of Chaos, Predplant Verte Anaconda, Melffy Mommy
June: The Weather Painter Moonbow, Wynn the Wind Channeler, Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town
July: Magicians’ Souls, Cross-Sheep, Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon
August: Spright Blue, Paces, Light of the Ghoti, Gunkan Suship Ikura-class Dreadnought
September: Mokey Mokey Adrift, Ariane the Labrynth Servant, Toon Harpie Lady
Speedroid Ultra Hound took the top spot for the preceding year. However, the top three spots all-time (in terms of note count) remain the same: Change of Heart, Toon World, and Dark Magician Girl (this art), respectively (and Change of Heart just passed 40K yesterday).
I wavered quite a bit on what cards to post for this, but Past, Present, and Future seemed like a good theme for the decade of doing this. With that in mind, the three cards posted will feature one card from the distant past (with a new art), a card from the most recent TCG main set release, and a card that fits with the Future idea.
I say it each year and I’ll say it once again: Thanks to all whom have been here and enjoyed this blog for these ten years so far. Keep an eye out, as hopefully sometime in November/early December (once re-licensing is complete), we will finally have a give-away after a long while since the last one. And there may be a few other surprises around the corner into the new year...
Hope you all enjoy today’s posts and have a great rest of your day.
(Still the reigning and defending top post)
