Wanna know what sounds great?
A fanfic where the Greybeards find a baby Dragonborn on their doors, and just take her (using your Leara DB as an example) in, and raising her.
They eventually find out she’s Dragonborn because of her ability to use the Way of The Voice so easily, or something. Paarthurnax takes an interest in this child, and so she stays at the Throat of the World, until Alduin returned.
Wait that's so soft.
Just imagine how much trauma Leara would avoid if she was raised by the Greybeards? It'd be so beautiful. Dragon Dad could be her actual dad.

International Lolita Day Picnic --------------------------------------------------------------
Some late photos from my second meet which was at a conservatory. I should have taken more photos of the interior but it was 80+ degrees in there and I wasn’t going to drag it on longer than it needed to be. Surprisingly, you’re allowed to gently touch the plants. Afterwards, our picnic was outside where the temperature was much more lovely. Chim Chim also came along for the ride in her Saturday best. I wore my cotton Totoro dress since I only have two good summer dresses and I’m saving my sailor dress for a beach meet next month.

Summary
Background
Anti-MDA5 (Melanoma differentiation-associated protein-5) positive dermatomyositis (MDA5+-DM) is characterised by rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD) and high mortality. MDA5 is an RNA sensor and a key pattern recognition receptor for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Methods
This is a retrospective observational study of a surge in MDA5 autoimmunity, as determined using a 15 muscle-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) panel, between Janurary 2018 and December 2022 in Yorkshire, UK. MDA5-positivity was correlated with clinical features and outcome, and regional SARS-CoV-2 positivity and vaccination rates. Gene expression patterns in COVID-19 were compared with autoimmune lung disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) to gain clues into the genesis of the observed MDA5+-DM outbreak.
Findings
Sixty new anti-MDA5+, but not other MSAs surged between 2020 and 2022, increasing from 0.4% in 2019 to 2.1% (2020), 4.8% (2021) and 1.7% (2022). Few (8/60) had a prior history of confirmed COVID-19, peak rates overlapped with regional SARS-COV-2 community positivity rates in 2021, and 58% (35/60) had received anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. 25/60 cases developed ILD which rapidly progression with death in 8 cases. Among the 35/60 non-ILD cases, 14 had myositis, 17 Raynaud phenomena and 10 had dermatomyositis spectrum rashes. Transcriptomic studies showed strong IFIH1 (gene encoding for MDA5) induction in COVID-19 and autoimmune-ILD, but not IPF, and IFIH1 strongly correlated with an IL-15-centric type-1 interferon response and an activated CD8+ T cell signature that is an immunologic hallmark of progressive ILD in the setting of systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The IFIH1 rs1990760TT variant blunted such response.
Interpretation
A distinct pattern of MDA5-autoimmunity cases surged contemporaneously with circulation of the SARS-COV-2 virus during COVID-19. Bioinformatic insights suggest a shared immunopathology with known autoimmune lung disease mechanisms.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 19:

World Premiere FNF Restoration!
NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR | NO ABRAS NUNCA ESA PUERTA
Argentina, 1952. Estudios San Miguel. 85 minutes
Screenplay by Alejandro Casona, from two short stories by Cornell Woolrich (William Irish)
Produced and directed by Carlos Hugo Christensen
More noir films have been based on the stories of Cornell Woolrich than any other writer, and NOIR CITY is proud to present this brand-new restoration of one of the best of those adaptations. In “Someone’s on the Phone,” Ángel Magaña plays a man bent on avenging the death of his sister, driven to suicide by gambling debts. In “The Hummingbird Comes Home,” Roberto Escalada portrays a racketeer who brings the gang to his boyhood home to lay low after a robbery. His blind madre doesn’t approve. Originally a three-part anthology of Woolrich tales, Never Open That Door was released separately from the 73-minute If I Should Die Before I Wake, also adapted by Casona and Christensen. Benefitting from the incredible cinematography of Pablo Tabernero, this is one of the most evocative realizations of Woolrich ever produced, featuring masterful sequences of sustained suspense. Said Buenos Aires film critic Horacio Bernades, “Rarely has an Argentine film been more purely cinematic than this.”
CAST: Someone on the Phone: Ángel Magaña (Raúl), Renée Dumas (Luisa), Diana de Córdoba (Nelly), Nicolás Fregues (money lender), Pedro Fiorito, Orestes Soriani, Percival Murray, Rosa Martín , Arnoldo Chamot. The Hummingbird Comes Home: Roberto Escalada (Daniel), Ilde Pirovano (the mother), Norma Giménez (María), Luis Otero (Juan)

STREET OF CHANCE
Tumblr media
United States, 1942. Paramount [Universal]. 74 minutes
Screenplay by Garrett Fort, based on the novel The Black Curtain by Cornell Woolrich
Produced by Burt Kelly. Directed by Jack Hively
The first case of amnesia in the film noir era comes with a typically intriguing Woolrichian twist. Frank Thompson survives a near fatal accident only to have the shock partially restore his memory! He realizes he’s lived the past several years as someone other than his true self. With the help of his incredulous girlfriend Ruth, Frank embarks on a nocturnal quest to determine his true identity. This modest offering from the B-unit at Paramount benefits from some A-list contributors, principally stars Burgess Meredith and Claire Trevor, and director of photography Theodor Sparkuhl, whose contributions to the look of early ’40s noir have gone largely unheralded. A wonderful gallery of supporting characters skitter and sneak through Frank’s waking nightmare, well rendered by journeyman director Jack Hively who had previously helmed many entries in RKO’s mystery series The Saint.
CAST: Burgess Meredith (Frank Thompson), Claire Trevor (Ruth Dillon), Louise Platt (Virginia Thompson), Sheldon Leonard (Joe Marucci), Frieda Inescort (Alma Diedrich), Jerome Cowan (Bill Diedrich), Adeline deWalt Reynolds (Grandma Diedrich), Arthur Loft (Sheriff Stebbins), Clancy Cooper (Burke), Ann Doran (Miss Peabody), Paul Phillips

So first of all, I am an avid lover of Sargentum and I love your world building and costume designs, they're gorgeous. I was wondering, how did you come up with the names for your characters? Did you derive them from folklore and history?
thank you!!!! i'm sorry i'm getting to this ask so late, and i'm glad you like them! sargentum is something i'll be revisiting when i can, because i'm still so fond of my world and characters, but i really want to go back to the start and re-do it with the art and storytelling skills i have now.
the names in-universe are a weird one - first section of the story takes place in a historical fantasy version of cornwall, uk. being a fantasy version, cornwall (kernow) is still a separate state here - and the cornish language (kernowek) is still the lingua franca (irl it was drowned out by english), most names being derived from this.
HOWEVER! i started planning this comic when i was 17/18 and didn't think about things that hard, which is why archer has an english-language name, and orelie is sort of latinate. i just really liked the names! these guys wouldn't even really be speaking english.
the penhallow surname, though, is cornish - it means 'head/lord of the moors' which i thought was fitting for a family that lives in a crumbling manor house on the edge of bodmin moor.
orelie's surname, angove, comes from the cornish 'an gof', literally: 'the smith'. this hints at a very sliiightly more new money origin for her family - it's also kind of plain and grounded, which fits her personality.
the witch (can't remember if her name is said in-comic?) is called eoforhild (pronouced ever-ild) - an old english name that meant boar spearer. this is because she's originally from saxon kingdom of wessex, which still exists as kingdom in this universe - AND I WILL stop myself right here before i ramble into oblivion!!!! i'm so sorry!! i really love names and etymology and how it links to place and time and because the sargentum universe is a Mess of different historical eras and cultures these names can get kinda hard to explain without a trillion word essay, but i hope this clears some stuff up!
(also for anyone curious, this is in reference to my webcomic that i currently have on hold/am planning to revamp)

ILD Lore #001
Simon’s ability: ‘a quirk of timing’
[not the official term for it, sidhe wizards call it ‘temporal/spacial chance induction’ and it’s basically ‘right place at the right time’ chaos magic]
This type of ability is passive, though it can be directed to some degree. (Simon does not direct his, at least not on purpose.)
This is an individual ability; not all sidhe or fae have it. It is moderately common though no one else at Jericho besides Simon and Lucy possess it at this time.
It can and does sometimes backfire, as with Gavin finding him on the first try and other examples we’ll see as we go, because it increases the chance of him being involved in coincidental events, as much as this is usually in small and beneficial ways.
Lucy’s offshoot of this ability is something she has better control over, and it’s part of why she doesn’t move around much. The events that can happen to her are limited if she’s in control of her surroundings. She has other things that make her version of this ability backfire much less often.
This ability is to some degree effected by the whims of the person with the ability, and the people closest to them as well. It will pull more in the directions they lean, whether they do so consciously or not.
This is principally a fae ability, there are rare exceptions however in unique circumstances (such as with Lucy, who is a full wolf).

WORLD LITERACY DAY IS THE DAY OF WORLD OF WOW! WISDOM
▪️Dr. Jemi Sudhakar, Principal, Oakley International School. The National UN Volunteers-India
When you read once, you get the understanding ; when you read twice, you get the second understanding. Don't just read, read!’
― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
It is very important to be a literate . Hence International Literacy Day is celebrated worldwide to remind people about the significance of literacy in improving communities, societies, and individuals. It also aims to emphasize the positive impact of a higher literacy rate. Let us ponder OVER IT.
International Literacy Day, celebrated on the 8th of September every year, is a global event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of literacy.
In 1966, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared September 8th as International Literacy Day. Since its inception in 1967, this day has been observed annually.
Despite some progress, there are still 773 million young people and adults who lack basic literacy skills, and 617 million children and adolescents who do not possess a basic proficiency in reading and writing. This highlights the urgent need to create awareness and address this issue.
Raising awareness about literacy is crucial not only within our communities but also on a global scale. It serves as a reminder that literacy is a fundamental right and a matter of dignity. According to UNESCO, achieving universal literacy is projected to take another 50 years, with a target year of 2060.
Let's work together to spread the message about the significance of literacy and make a positive impact on the lives of millions worldwide.
This global Day of literacy is a great reminder of how important literacy is as a fundamental human right. ILD is committed to supporting literacy initiatives and promoting the development of more knowledgeable and resilient societies.

MIP-C, pronounced “mipsy,” is an acronym for MDA5-autoimmunity and interstitial pneumonitis contemporaneous with COVID. MIP-C is an inflammatory autoimmune disease with a link to COVID.
Anti-MDA5-positive dermatomyositis (MDA5+-DM) is a rare but serious autoimmune disease that was first described in 2005. The symptoms often include muscle pain, arthritis, rashes, and rapidly progressing interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD), which is severe lung scarring. MDA5+-DM can be fatal.
Researchers at the University of Leeds noticed a surge in MDA5+-DM cases in Yorkshire in the U.K. during the pandemic. The surge came as a surprise on its own, but also since the cases were showing up in a predominantly Caucasian population. Typically, MDA5+-DM presents in people of East Asian descent.
Dennis McGonagle, PhD, professor of investigative rheumatology at the University of Leeds, contacted Ghosh about the cases, because of some of her team’s previous work, and their collaboration began.
The patients were presenting to either their primary care physicians or to rheumatology clinics for joint pain, rashes, and muscle aches. “What they noted, is that some of these rapidly progressed to death because they were getting lung fibrosis,” Ghosh recalls of her initial conversation with McGonagle.
