I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how important it is for people to see ships like lumity and huntlow coming from a brand like disney that’s known for having ships that really is known to enforce a lot of beauty standards on to kids.

lumity is definitely not “on brand” with disney but i feel like so much of the appeal in it comes from that fact. luz doesn’t fit disneys standards for an attractive girl at all. (she is very pretty tho don’t get me wrong) whereas amity is definitely seen by a lot of fans to be very attractive and i think that makes the ship even more powerful. luz doesn’t fall for amity first, amity falls for luz.

i don’t think i can even explain how much this meant to me as a poc. like omg the hot gay witch that everyone thinks is super hot falls for the dorky brown girl??? that alone makes me love the ship 1000x more. its amazing that kids get to grow up with a ship like that that really flips tropes and cliches and is still so fun and cute to watch. it really teaches young bisexuals and pocs that; hey! you can totally find a super loving healthy relationship where the other person respects you :) ive mentioned in the past that i used to feel really self conscious of my lips but luz helped my overcome that. it’s a small but very important thing to me. i also used to always be worried about how partners would take me being bi, again luz was so helpful in overcoming that fear.

huntlow is another ship that i feel is incredibly important for reasons similar to lumity. a lot of people are probably going to hate me for saying that lmao but idk i still think it’s very likely to become canon. again like lumity the character the fandom finds to be the most attractive falls first

some people say that willow fell first but I feel like given the fact that hunters been the only one who blushes a lot more people are gonna go “oh hunter likes willow” rather than “willow likes hunter” (i mean i think willow likes hunter but it’s not as obvious so im not gonna talk about that aspect of this ship and it’s not relevant to the point im trying to get across.)

a lot of people have also said that huntlow parallels lumity in how lot in how their interactions are written and i really agree with that. hunter has from the minute his face was revealed always been seen as attractive by the fandom. i feel like people only really started saying the same about willow when hunter started showing signs of having a crush on her.

willow like luz isn’t the conventionally attractive disney princess type. she’s larger, east asian, and more quiet. still through hunters perspective we’re able to see these aspects of her along with how she can still be confident and an incredibly powerful witch.

just like with lumity the show allows people to stop and be like huh luz is actually really pretty and super cute or huh willow is actually really gorgeous and talented. we’re able to see these characters from the perspective of the people who are in love with them.

at first amity and hunter both don’t really understand why willow and luz are the way they are. hunter and amity have been raised with the perspective of having to be better than everyone all the time so when they meet luz and willow - two very powerful witches - they dont understand why they’re approaching things with the perspective they have. but slowly they’re able to see a different side of them which in turn allows the viewer to also understand luz and willow more.

we see hunter and amity have this moment of realization; huh it’s actually okay to let people see a more friendly side of myself that’s more open with people and that doesn’t take anything away from how powerful i have the capability of being.

I think that just the fact alone that luz is able bring out the best side of amity and the fact that willow is able to bring out the best side of hunter is really cute and admirable. these two standoffish teens with self hatred issues are just are suddenly super soft around these two super sweet cute girls. idk i just really like these two ships.

I have my problems with the hidden world, like many others. And i just want to gather all my thoughts in one place here because i feel like many agree that the ending itself isnt the problem, but how they did it. For me, personally, they ruined it with the reactions to the dragons leaving. Specifically, the reactions of the dragons.

First, we have Meatlug, who in the past has been shown thay merely HEARING FISHLEGS' VOICE causes her to become overwhelmed with excitement. (RTTE S2E9)

And yet here, she looks like this:

Like?? Not even a frown when she's leaving Fishlegs, who is clearly her favourite person in the world (literally watch ANY HTTYD media and this is made abundantly clear).

Moving on, we have Barf and Belch. Now it can be said that the twins and their dragon don't really have as many emotional dragon-rider moments as the others, but it is still clear that Barf and Belch love their riders. Except here:

The twins look DEVASTATED, meanwhile they (sorry belch is cropped here I couldnt get a ss with both in it) hardly look sad. Barf at least looks a little upset but still, its borderline.

And moving on, to perhaps what angers me the most, Snotlout & Hookfang. These two are easily my fav dragon-rider duo/team, and for many reasons.

Very quickly, allow me to take you back to RTTE S1E13, in which Hookfang goes out of his way to protect "Girl-Hookfang" and her eggs from a Titanwing Monsterous Nightmare when she sends out what Hiccup describes as a "distress signal".

When Snotlout tells Hookfang to choose between him and the dragon, he ultimately chooses defending her. But at the prospect of leaving Snotlout, he looks LIKE THIS:

He looked MISERABLE and even made sad little dragon noises (idk how to describe them im sorry). So,

TELL ME WHY

IN THE HIDDEN WORLD

HE LOOKS LIKE THIS

SNOTLOUT LOOKS LIKE HES LISTENED TO AN ENTIRE MITSKI ALBUM, BROS FUCKING SOBBING SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP.

And Hookfang hardly even looks at him, just kinda gives him a sideways glance. Like

HELLO???! And ONE OF THESE had a lower budget as a TV show AND a lower quality model (which, unrelated, ive seen some people really dislike but I think the show models are great!)

The only one to act somewhat appropriately is Toothless, who warbles and makes his little dragon noises at Hiccup, almost talking with him, they have their big heartfelt moment and their cute hug before he leaves. Because of course they get it, its Hiccup and Toothless.

And yeah i get it that clearly the dragons are sick and tired of hunters and therefore understand the need to leave. But they dont even look sad! Breaks my heart because after three movies, two tv shows and all the specials of the dragons and riders bonding and caring for each other and they don't even get a heartfelt goodbye.

And let us not forget that Snotlout, Fishlegs and the twins, who have been riders since the FIRST MOVIE, and main characters in their own right for years, don't even get a GOODBYE LINE?? LIKE LITERALLY, Astrid and Valka? Absolutely, they deserve it. Gobber? Sure, he hasn't known grump nearly as long but he's been a relevant and important main character as long as the kids. And Eret-

Now, I love Eret. He's cool. He's great. Love a hunter turned rider.

But WHY DID THEY GIVE A LINE TO HIM AND SKULLCRUSHER (approx. 1 year relationship) OVER THE SIX YEARS OF FISHLEGS, RUFF, TUFF AND SNOTLOUT? THEY DONT EVEN GET A "Goodbye." WHAT.

And again thats not me shitting on Eret getting one, its on the others NOT

And this isnt even beginning to mention Valka and Cloudjumper do not START ME on their TWENTY YEAR FRIENDSHIP AND BOND BEING TORN APART IN A ONE MINUTE GOODBYE.

Anyways on a lighter note, the parallel with Hiccup removing his hand from Toothless in a reverse of the first time they touched all those years ago always gets me emotional. My fav part about the ending.

And that's pretty much all I like about it LMAOO

ok so. this is gonna be a looong post sorry

BASICALLY. aziraphale is an angel, crowley is a demon. theyve known each other for 6,000 years, at the creation of the universe (when crowley was still an angel. he created stars and everything. very nice job) and theyve become great... friends (wink) even though theyre not supposed to be! so theyre not friends! theyre eeeevil enemies. and then they go out for dinner

anyways. idk how to explain it well but theyre just SOOOOO!!

ok so now im going to try and do like. a whole thing explaining everything below so SPOILERS!!!!

okay so. in the beginning aziraphale and crowley were both angels. they met when crowley was making stars and galaxies and all that pretty stuff, and aziraphale came to say that they were going to shut it down after a bit. crowley gets upset and goes whaaaa this is so cool why would they do that (lil thing to note. aziraphale is like. interested in crowley but he doesnt really care) and then they have some really nice scene

d'aww. ok and so THEN! some big war happens i think? i dont know they dont show that part and crowley falls. demon moment!!! and then they go through all these different decades being friends, getting to know each other, and its great. aziraphale sins a little bit (gluttony), crowley saves aziraphales books, and they all have fun. oh btw. crowley can transform into a snake, and apparently hes the one that caused adam and eve to eat the apple? BUT! theres this other great scene where theyre talking, and its revealed that aziraphale gave his flaming sword to adam and eve, showing that he loves humans and has a soft spot for them, and theres this other great shot

THE PARALLELS!!!!!!!!! AUUUGh (^ this one came before. btw) and so this is sort of them showing how ohh, theyre not supposed to hang out because angel good demon evil waaah but they just KEEP ON FINDING EACH OTHER. oh and. speaking of like. showing off different softer sides of them. in season 2, theres a lot of bits where they show that crowley is pretty much putting up this show of being so meaaan and eeevil but hes actually nice and cares about humans (bringing jobs kids back, keeping that girl from dying, etc). ok now onto talking about season one. warning i havent watched this season in a bit so this is just me going off memory.

ok so! the big issue this season is "oh noooo we lost the antichrist!! big bad things gonna happen" and its awesome. OK SO. it starts off with crowley delivering the antichrist to this satanist church? and theres two women having babies that night. ONE is a normal family, who are supposed to have a normal baby. THE OTHER ONE is a rich family who is supposed to have the EEEVIL baby. can u guess what happens. BABY SWITCH!!! they didnt realize it tho so crowley and aziraphale are sent after the wrong baby. (to make him sin/be good) and then they realize on his 11th? birthday "aw crud! wrong baby." and go on some search to find the right antichrist. and that brings us to ADAM!!! hes the antichrist, and one coooooool kid. hes pretty normal tho and just hangs out with his friends. and then one day on his 11th birthday this dog shows up! (hellhound) and then off on the side theres this witch lady named anathema device who has a book that knows the future. crazy stuff. oh and this guy names newt whos kinda a dork and talks to this weird witch hunter guy shadwell and his neighbor madame tracy. oh and the four horseman of the apocalypse are around and free OKAY. into it now. anthma knows something bad is going to happen (book), and she moves to london because thats where its gonna happen!! whaaaat!!! and newt moves to london because uhh. witch finder i think? and he goes to meet shadwell and accidently meets tracy. not important rn. shadwells kinda bonkers and freaks newt out. ok now onto anathema. im pretty sure that aziraphale and crowley were driving around (oh btw. he has a magic bentley) and hit her!! yeoch. and after driving her home she accidentally leaves her book in the bentley and aww they gotta meet up again aw shucks. okay now they go searching for adam (antichrist) and i dont think they find him? anyways i forgot how but then tracy shadwell newt and anathema all meet up with crowley and aziraphale and do a seance. i forgot what about but ohh nooo aziraphale is in madame tracys body!!! ok so i kinda forgot how again but somehow theyre all at some big area and the four horsemen and running around i forgot what theyre doing and BLAM ADAM SHOWS UP hes mad. hes trapped his friends into doing what he wants. hes gonna start the apocalypse. average 11 yr old stuff. BUT!!! crowley and aziraphale manage to calm him down and newt blows something up. idk whats going on anymore. satan comes out, "grrrah im ur father adam". its a nice lovely moment. but oh wait!!! gabriel (heavens big man) and beezelbub (hells high duke) come down/up and r like "yall r in biiiig trouble! cant be doin all this" and they try to kill both of them. aziraphale in hellfire, crowley in holy water. that scene comes and yoo wait theyre both alive??? this is insane!!!! theyre both MILKING it, bein dramatic and then. at the end. WHAOOOAH THEYRE ACTUALLY THE OTHER ONE?????

and thats the end of season one. okay so i know that this is incredibly long but im not even done. im going to reblog this later with me talking about season two and that should be shorter. OH BTW

idk im glad they didn't give us any actual details about caleb and evelyn beyond belos's memories and like. fifty-sixth-hand information from masha's story so audience members not paying attention would at least know who they are.

whatever nitty gritty details the audience comes up with on their own for what happened to these two would be infinitely more satisfying to them than what the show would have been able to depict in a flashback. especially working within what's appropriate for children's television.

caleb the person isn't important to the story anymore. the MEMORY of caleb, which belos has never let himself get over in 400 years, is the important thing. and you don't need to know much about caleb for that to work. and while i loved the parallels between the wittebanes and hunter and luz, as well as the clawthornes being a descendent of evelyn, i'm glad they never confirmed it, and it remains situational irony purely for the audience.

hunter's only connection with caleb is his DNA, which also ties back to belos's feelings. him befriending luz is something they did of their own volition. it's not because hunter is fated to play out every beat of caleb's life by virtue of being his clone. similarly, while i love a good hunter clawthorne, dell taking hunter as an apprentice and eda showing care towards him in s2 are because eda is kind to children and hunter independently had passion for palisman carving. it's not because they found out they were related, because the whole show is about found family.

having flashbacks to the real caleb and evelyn wouldn't have contributed anything to the story aside from fanservice. what matters is how belos feels about them. belos's ego and the desperation to be acknowledged by his puritan community and God aside, the idea of caleb haunts his every action. not the actual ghost of caleb-i've already discussed here why the idea of caleb's ghost literally haunting belos would be a poor writing decision. belos knew the person his brother actually was, killed him, and imagined a perfect version of him that he chased after for the next 350 years.

the tragedy is that the perfect version of caleb is unattainable, and now belos can never get the real caleb back. he refuses to acknowledge that caleb may have been flawed before the influence of evelyn. to phillip, everything he thinks is wrong about caleb is because he was corrupted by the boiling isles, and that's part of the reason he starts on a quest to kill all the witches. it's also why he makes so many grimwalkers. he desperately misses that ideal version of caleb, so he makes copies of caleb and plays family with them.

and belos loathes the grimwalkers. he kills them because he hates the magic they were made with. because he hates being reminded of his brother and what happened to him. and of course, he hates the grimwalkers for not meeting his expectations of what his "ideal" caleb would have been like. it's a fluid expectation that belos, subconsciously or not, changes as he goes, all in order to take out his anger on innocent children. he seems to recognize his enjoyment of harming the grimwalkers, though it's unknown if he understands the reason-which is that the "perfect" caleb will never exist, and likely never did. phillip's brother is gone forever, and it's all his fault.

and idk maybe in the writers minds caleb was a perfect brother and baby phillip was just a possessive little shit. or maybe it's the opposite and caleb messed up a lot in communicating with phillip on his relationship with evelyn. maybe evelyn was a perfectly nice girl who was perfectly supportive of caleb and phillip's choices or maybe she hated phillip and the other humans and did convince caleb to leave it all behind. it's a fascinating piece of backstory and i love seeing fanworks that talk about it! but anything more about caleb and evelyn that the creators add in canon would give actual context to their situation that we don't need! their story has been over for 350 years and dont affect any of the other characters beyond how it affects phillip!

nothing more about these two can be said that will contribute more to belos's character that isn't already conveyed with the barebones material we got in the show. this story isn't about "forbidden love," this is about how phillip was confronted with the fact that his brother found happiness outside of him, and that someone he's been taught since childhood to hate may not be all bad. it's about how he plugged his fingers in his ears in response to this and went on a 350 year long killing spree to prove to himself that he can never be in the wrong.

basically, i wouldn't go so far as to call caleb and evelyn's backstory "purposefully unexplained," but i definitely think the story is a lot stronger as it is than it would be if they did explain it all. not every detail of a story needs to have a word of god answer as to how it all went down. sometimes adding in unnecessary detail for completionism's sake just distracts from the point you're actually trying to convey. while there are a lot of things that i wished the show could have explored in more detail had it not been shortened, caleb and evelyn's story is not one of them.

Predictions, Hopes, and Headcannons for Watching and Dreaming

Flashbacks!!!

Orgins of both The Collector and the Titans. I would love to know more about both of their species and about King's father

Caleb Wittebane AND Evelyn Clawthorne. I need to know what these two sound like. Even if its just for a second. Give me more reasons to feel sad that Caleb is gone, leaving Evelyn a widow and single parent.

Manny Noceda. Not sure how that would be integrated into the narrative. Maybe and unconcious Luz getting advice/motivation from her Papi?

Belos. Im a lover of angst, so I would love to see the entire process of him deciding he needed to kill Caleb.

Callback(s) to A Lying Witch and a Warden

"Do not underestimate me ______. For I am Luz Noceda, _______ ...Now eat this sucka!" Luz delivering the final blow.

"And that's the end!" I could totally see the series ending with Luz retelling this entire story to her children. To witchlings, human children, etc. I think it would be cute!

Awesome animation!!

There are only two things I can think of that would get the majority of the animation budget.

A fight scene.

Luz reuniting with King and Eda. I will cry many, many tears.

Or...we get both 🤷🏻👀

Raine's possession

As I stated in a previous post, Eda is now the spitting image of Evelyn. I wouldn't be surprised is Belos tries to hurt her. I would like to think they would stop him before he is able to but idk...

I also like to think they'll prevent Belos from actually harming Eda, the kids, etc.

They'll be 'unpossessed' with the help of the Collector

However, I think the main people Belos will be aiming to hurt would be Luz, Eda, or Hunter. Yet, he might also hurt King, Willow, Amity, Gus, and/or Camila to hurt them.

I don't think Raine will walk out of this without a few scars. Specifically on their ear and cheek

Lumity

I NEED an "I love you." from Luz. Amity has been the one to initiate everything in their relationship. She asked Luz out, she always gives initiates physical affection, etc. I would love for Luz to initiate this one.

A call back to Good Witch Azura 2.

Im sure there will be parallels of this entire scene alone, but I'll be awaiting the angst that is to come.

Future Lumity! I need to see these two older. Even as adults maybe. I live for this relationship due to it being such a revolutionary thing. A healthy, happy sapphic couple. Maybe they both subtlely got rings on their finger 👀

Huntlow

I dont think the plotline of Hunter being a grimwalker was resolved. I think Willow will pull him aside and talk to him about it. Saying what he is changes nothing about how she feels about him.

And then he'll say something about loving the person she is. How grateful he is for her, etc.

Reunions!

Luz, King, and Eda. I'll cry. Especially if it's something like this:

Amity and Alador; Willow and Gilbert and Harvey; Gus and Perry; Lilith and Hooty; Clawthorne family reunion

All the Hexside kids with their parents

King and The Collector

I really feel like there will be a confrontation later that will go along the lines of:

The Collector: You betrayed me! If you don't ____, I'll-

King: Or you'll what? Kill me? Just like your people did to my dad? My entire species??

I think it would be cute if the Collector was integrated into the relationship King has with Luz. Unique sibling trio for the win!

Luz having her quinceñera. All her friends and family are there. Eda, Camila, and Amity dance with her.

Or if they do flash-foward: Everyone just living their lives.

Hunter carving palismen and living his best life. Helping young witches carve their own. Maybe he'll even carve his own palisman when he's ready. I am certain it will be a bird.

Gus being an ambassador* of the human realm. *: wreaking havoc. Occasionally accompanied by Luz, Willow, and/or Hunter. I could also see him as an Illusionist instructor.

Willow being a coach for grugby at Hexside. Helping to lift up young witches confidence and self-esteem.

Amity not working for the family business at all. Maybe a teacher or as a librarian.

Maybe all of them just work at Hexside lol

Raeda being old gays. I will simply NOT accept either of them dying. That's a hate crime.

Lumity and Huntlow adults

An actual scene of people going to therapy. Maybe someone leaves and tags the next person in lol

A parallel to this scene:

Luz has gone through a lot. But she made it through a better and wiser person witch. She can just be embracing what her life is now in TBI before flying back home to Amity and/or Eda and King.

Will likely add more later lol

Hot take. With the switch AU’s between Amphibia and TOH- Amity would NOT be Marcy! Hunter would! Here’s why😀 (yes I know people are just having fun and I love all the au’s. Im doing the same in sharing my take because it’s fun and I can lmao so don’t come for me)

Hunter would be Marcy because they are both, one, the right hand to the emperor. Yea I know- “but that’s so basic”. It may be basic but they parallel. They both are the right hand, they are both pawns in the bigger game, they both get used. I had this theory before S3 E1 of TOH but that just furthers it. Both of them have been possessed and betrayed by the person they trusted most the majority of the time they were where they were. They both helped terrible people UNKNOWINGLY and then got hurt. She got stabbed, he almost got killed multiple times. They also both got possessed in season 3 of their shows so- Moving on from the bad, they are both very- ADHD. They have hyperfixations, special interests, and more. But they also, always get shut down by the people who they think are closest to them. Marcy with Anne & Sasha & Hunter with Belos. They are both interested in things no one else really is until they find someone who is. Marcy with the Emperor & Hunter with Willow which is where they stray from each other. He finds the right people and she stays with the wrong ones, soon unwillingly, but finds the good in what she had at the end, which is where she relates to Amity when she became friends with Willow again but that’s really it.

Now with Amity and Sasha. Those 2 are more accurate as the other tbh. Yes Hunter is the soldier who has a troubled parenthood- but so is Amity. In a different way. Amity was top student and she has a troubled parenthood as well. Not like Marcy’s tho. More like Sasha’s. Marcy’s parents still love her and care about her. Sasha’s, from what we’ve seen, don’t. it’s sad to think about, but it’s really true. but they both over, come out and get better, in their only ways. And it takes a while for them to become who they are today. Which is better people than what we started with. Amity may have ended with a girlfriend, but Sasha, ended with Anne being her best friend, until they grew apart, which happens. But they still stayed friends. the only way that they differ is that Sasha did what she did because she wanted to ignore the fact that her parents were divorced, Amity did what she did because she wanted to please her parents. But they basically play almost the same role just written a bit differently in my eyes. Idk that’s just how I read them😂

And with the rest of the characters, everyone stay the same. Luz would be Anne, Willow would be Sprig, Gus would be Polly all for obvious reasons and so forth. I just think differently for everyone else for those two😂.

I'm not gonna tag this because shadows fandom loves to be contrarian and base their metas directly on people who didn't like things while calling them stupid and shallow and whatever (because apparently I can't not like the way a thing was written without directly insulting someone else who did?? Or being stupid? make it make sense) but I honestly am all for Guillermo being and staying a human. I've been all for it since day one, honestly. To me, everything about his story from the first episode, first season suggests that this is the kind of idealized dream he's going to wake up from eventually and realize it's not everything he wanted. I've always been 100% on board with that, especially with the reveal that he was a vampire hunter which came with its own set of powers. In fact, I was working on a fic a couple years ago that I intend to return to that is ALL about Guillermo finally eschewing his dreams of vampirism for a purpose that better fulfills him etc.

So no, my problem with this last episode is not that 'Guillermo needs to stay a vampire or it's bad writing phwah', my problem is with the swiftness that all of this happens, coupled with the fact that Guillermo is between a rock and a hard place and more or less just being guided into place by what everyone else in the situation thinks is best for him. Despite the fact that he literally DRINKS BLOOD FROM A CUP to fully come into his vampire powers naught but a few scenes before, the fact that he cannot bring himself to drain a human directly from the tap until dead (which I still don't think makes a lot of sense on it's own but fine) is treated as this insurmountable problem they can't possibly get over so, obviously, he needs to be reverted via Derek's death (a character who also doesn't deserve that). Can't just let him drink blood from cups or bottles for a while. Can't just let him half drain someone but not to the point of death. Maybe at least to give him some time to decide??? Maybe give him better reasons (of which there are many) to decide to revert? He has been idolizing this for most of his life, after all, I just think it's a shame that we're meant to accept that ONE moment of revulsion towards killing someone (KILLING SOMEONE OF ALL THINGS) is enough to make him just nope out completely. That's a disservice to him and what he's capable of, if you ask me.

See, I of course enjoyed the deliciousness of the whole cheating/sex parallel to Guillermo being bitten by someone else, loved that, I'm just not sure how I feel about that storyline ending with Nandor being like 'im gonna forgive you for this but only because you're too much of a stupid little baby to know what you want, but I know what you want better than you do, now lemme kill the guy you cheated on me with real quick ok' LIKE. I KNOW that they are toxic I KNOW they are unhealthy, but Guillermo is a character that has constantly been struggling with his own agency, often seizing it on his own by very aggressive means, often being shown as smarter and more capable than most of the household, and for this storyline to just end with Nandor 'fixing' it all because Guillermo's just too dumb to know what's best for him...IDK YALL. DIDN'T LIKE IT. I can see how people would find it romantic and I do think it's meant to be but...nope. I don't find that romantic lmao I find that insulting and patronizing. Maybe that's the point? But it wasn't funny either. Or interesting, really. (The Freddie stuff was fucked up but at least it was funny to some degree lol)

I guess my point is that I wish there had been more time spent on this. We can't keep excusing these cop-out, rushed and dropped storylines on 'well it's a goofy show' because yes, it's ALWAYS been a goofy show I get it, but there's no denying that seasons 1-3 did a better job of holding on to arcs and creating consequences for the characters as a result of these arcs and their actions, such as the Vampire Council tricking them into custody after a season of Guillermo killing a bunch of vampires etc. There's precedent in this GOOFY GOOFY show to think that there will be follow through and consequences of characters actions etc, so no, it doesn't come from nowhere and it's not people just seeing what they want to or whatever.

I do kind of think this was rushed because the next season will most likely be the last, but even if that is true, I don't see why we couldn't have dedicated more time to it in this next season. It's deflating, it's boring, it sucks that one of the main narrative questions of the show 'Will Guillermo transform or not?' has been answered with what I find to be more or less a wet fart that doesn't even really make sense or fully take into account who the characters are and what they're capable of.

Yes, it's a goofy show that is usually just episodic moments of whatever crazy shenanigans the vampires will get into today, but it used to be elevated and tied together by story arcs and narrative consequences that would, eventually, sooner or later, show up for the characters to deal with. It used to be arcs that spanned episodes of Guillermo coming into his power and feeling conflicted about his dreams versus his destiny. It used to be the Vampire Council or the Baron being a certain kind of existential threat. It used to give us the idea that while funny stuff was happening, buckle up, because it's going to get REAL in the last few episodes.

But now that's uh...more or less just not a thing anymore. Everything is dealt with in a 25 min runtime and there are no consequences for anything that last or mean anything. To me, that sucks, and not in a cool vampire way lmao.

sorry for the late response i just had to sit on this and then very messily type up all my current thoughts (spoilers for both part 1 of csm and general tlt spoilers)

John Gaius as some sort of Makima role, obviously. manipulative, groomer, the whole nine yards. etc etc. harrow should get to eat him.

Gideon makes a contract with Harrow, at some point, when both their backs are against a wall. "ill give you my heart, in exchange come find me and remind me of who i was" anyway i think Harrow in every universe needs to be beset by the trauma of Gideon sacrificing herself for her. this could be a fun way to integrate Kiriona Gaia into it. Harrow goes to hell to find Gideon and remind her of who she was.

as much as I love Denji and Gideon parallels, i do see Gideon as a fiend in this AU. partly bc i really think Gideon needs to devestate harrow/save her life with a contract. but also bc weird golden eyes, check. weird head, also check (dunks on readheads sorry dslkjdlsk). maybe the dead body she's posessing knew Harrow briefly as kids back before she died, and then they meet again way later when they get teamed up. Gideon remembers Harrow briefly through her body's memories.

I see Harrow as a devil hunter in the kind of Deji role of uh getting massivly taken advantage of by John :(.

her whole family has a contract with the Bones devil or something like that but in SECRET that's like mostly a cover for how they also have a contract with some Unpeakable, Horrific, etc devil that they allow to posess them to prevent it from running amok or something. Harrow halucinates The Body as per usual

when harrow was 10 her parents killed themselves because Harrow got too close to the Unspeakable Horror they have a contract with. Harrow had to make another contract with another terrible devil to make it seem like her parents are alive, or something

idk i just think *slaps harrow* this bitch can fit so many contracts in her and all of them are terrible for her, but like, none of them fatal. she's just very juicy to devils. like how the future devil just wanted to live in aki's eye, some devils are just down to Be Around Her bc her life sucks and they think it's entertaining. so maybe that's why she's such a wet rat of a person i.e. she gave her physical strength and vitality in exchange for something or w/e.

ianthe and corona are pulling the same con as always. maybe corona is the opposite of juicy to devils and they just Dont want to make contracts with her. so ianthe does it all. everyone else is like "why doesnt the fox devil let corona use his head? she's hot?" but in reality ianthe is the one w the contract and the fox devil does not think she is hot. so she gets a foot. maybe babs is a fiend they somehow convinced to do everything fotr them? idk. it would be funny.

jeannemary and issac have to die tragically. sorry it's just their narrative role.

dulcinea/anyone from the 7th house made a contract with some sort of sickness devil that they let live in them and infect them in exchange for using the devil's powers. it's like, a family thing so dulcie didn't get much of a choice in the matter.

haven’t thought a bunch about the others but i think judith and marta both have fox devil contracts. marta gets the head. judith has a foot or something. camilla is contracted with the knives devil or something.

maybe the lyctors are like the weapon devils? hmm. have not thought in depth abt that tbh

palamades ghost devil contract or something like that

this is basically an exercise is like, how can i make all the tlt characters who die in canon, die very tragically in my au. it’s abt themes

the resurrection beasts are like the darkness devil. still in hell because they’ve never once been killed etc.

✶ 𝐇𝐗𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐒: 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 & 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒, 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 & 𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 Long story short, I have been thinking about this for wayyyyy too long now and wanted to get some ~thoughts~ & analysis written down! This post is going to be...fairly long, lol. Apologies in advance :D

This post is probably going to be about 2/3 yorknew & phantom troupe/kurapika focused, 1/3 chimera ants, maybe with some references to other arcs (including manga-only arcs) mixed in. so, ofc, tons of spoilers ahead! also, i realize that my blog theme is hard to read (and i’m p sure clicking ‘keep reading’ sends you to the og post itself), so i’m linking the post w/ full text copy/pasted in on my art backup side blog (which has a more legible font) here.

✶ 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 I’m sure absolutely nobody is surprised with me starting here - there is just. SO. MUCH. DEATH. in hxh. & right from the start, one thing I noticed that togashi really emphasized was the #4 and its connection to death. in japanese, chinese, and im p sure some other asian cultures the number 4 is pronounced like the word for death so it’s associated with death in general, and boy oh boy does the ‘deadly number 4′ thing show up E V E R Y W H E R E. we get to the hunter exam, and hisoka is applicant #44. kurapika is #404. i didn’t notice it at first, but this was so intentional holy shit. togashi is NOT SUBTLE.

So pika & hisoka are, right off the bat, associated with death. okay. and then there are even more clues to drive the point home: hisoka is member #4 in the phantom troupe, kurapika’s birthday is april 4th (aka 4/4). 100% not a coincidence (!!). with hisoka, it’s pretty obvious why togashi’s throwing all this death 444444 stuff around - dude is a psycho murder pedo clown, literally gets off on killing people (and there’s also the fact that judas sits 4th from the left in the last supper painting, and he’s sort of the judas equivalent for the phantom troupe). with kurapika, though, it’s a bit more subtle and woven deeper into his characterization, which i LOVE. togashi puts the mans in blue & gold & white (traditionally ‘pure’ or ‘heavenly’ colors), makes him so fucking kind & so good-hearted.....when he’s not relentlessly pursuing his revenge, ofc. more on this in the next section, but pika = death. togashi has made that v v v clear.

Backtracking a bit to hisoka, though, I also just wanted to point out the 4 is death symbolism in the fortunes too (GOD i love the fortunes): in one translation, he’s the false fourth moon, and in the og japanese (i think), he’s the false hare (4th in the lunar zodiac or w/e it’s called. i don’t know the japanese cultural influences here, but in the chinese legend that established the zodiac animals, they race across the heavenly river & the top 12 animals got zodiac slots. the hare finished 4th, so it’s #4 in the cycle).

And just as a final note, Tserriednich is the fourth prince of the kakin empire, and also another dude who has a hard-on for murder & other gory shit. again: togashi is not subtle with this, lmfao

✶ 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘, 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘 As probably everyone who’s gotten to yorknew knows, togashi is so 0 fucks given when he wants to be. I mean there’s the whole thing where he just. took New York and decided, Yorknew. LMFAO, but also, he made the main antag of that arc be named chrollo lucilfer, sit around in a ruined church, have a reversed cross coat, pale & dark-haired/dark-eyed, generally dressed in dark colors, very terrible murder guy. liiiike......chrollo x devil symbolism game is 1000/10 at this point lmaooo

And i know absolutely nothing about christianity in general, but pt/kurapika & yorknew arc is just so full of christian imagery/symbolism! one thing that i L O O O O O O V E though is how togashi really blurs the traditional christian-coded good/evil, holy/damned boundaries.

Back to kurapika: he wears gold and blue, his coloring is very stereotypically ‘angelic’, he’s precious and good and kind. his chains are all about ~judgment~ and ~healing~ - some of the chains are also in literal cross shapes, aren’t they? And the chain dagger in his own heart...the imagery is very startlingly similar to the immaculate heart of mary, where the swords stabbing thru the heart apparently represent seven sorrows. IDK much about this stuff other than the visual similarities; literally had to google ‘daggers through heart christianity?’ to even get the name of that thing LOL. anyway, at first, it seems like togashi establishes him as the ‘angel’, the ‘good’, the ‘holy’ in the angel/devil, good/evil, holy/damned dichotomy between him and chrollo.

But that’s not the end of the story. his entire storyline is driven by a huuuuuuuge giant desire for vengeance, first of all, and then there’s the scarlet eyes, which canonically are seen as demonic/cursed/what have you (according to one of the movies or smth? where they show pika as a 10 y/o?), and then we also have red eyes in modern culture being associated w pretty much the same thing (vampires, anyone?). the fight scene with uvo has everything in b&w besides the blood on his face & his red eyes & the moon (<<< more fortune foreshadowing & symbolism, i love to see it), and there are tonssss of scenes where he has to suppress his rage. so all of that is obviously not very angelic of him i would say LOL. in fact, what i find super interesting is that the scarlet/red eyes (which are ‘demonic’) is actually the driving factor behind his super powerful nen abilities; this ties in so well with the fortunes & death associations imo! the fortunes call him the ‘death-bringer’ in one translation, or ‘half-angel, half-death’, so that’s one side of pika = red eyes = death, but there’s also the fact that emperor time is literally draining his life force. so pika = death for both himself and others namely the pt, question mark?

Now for chrollo: togashi’s devil symbolism is EXTREMELY overt with him, but i love the subtler jesus references too. the church thing, obviously, and the st. peters cross which is cuz st peter respected jesus too much & didn’t think he was worthy to die in the same way as him (or something like that, i am the most atheist person in the world & hxh is literally my entire christian education pls) but is also used as an anti-christianity symbol these days. bandit’s secret looks like a bible, lbr, and mans has a cross tattoo.

Other things beyond visuals - 12 spiders, 12 apostles; hisoka’s betrayal, where member #4 can be thought to correspond to judas sitting 4th from left at last supper. and this miiiiight be a bit of a stretch, but i think the meteor city being the place of origin may also play into the blurred line between angel/devil and holy/damned here; meteors are defined as space rocks that are in earth’s atmosphere, becoming incandescent in the process. meteorites are for the kinds that actually reach the ground. and idk, lucifer was cast out of heaven / sky too right? so i think there might be some subtle fallen angel imagery/symbolism playing into the pt as well

✶ 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 (𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒) Last section yay! i don’t have as much to say about this, besides when i was making chimera ant arc edits & realized that there might have been some subtle gon/meruem parallels???

So obviously, everyone knows that line killua says to gon - “you are light” - and then i was just remembering that meruem’s name means.... “light that illuminates all” (!!!!). maybe it’s a coincidence, but knowing togashi, i’m leaning towards nahhhh. there HAS TO be some kinda meaning there (!!).

Going back to the events of the chimera ant arc....ooh boy. let’s see: gon is optimistic & hopeful even in the face of kite potentially being dead, killua says he’s light, they find kite & dude is fucked up, gon is pissed. gets all angry & ~dark~, especially during the palace invasion when he’s staring pitou down as she fixes up komugi. then the actual fight against pitou: more darkness, more anger, but through it all there’s still light, namely his jajanken being very orange & fiery lookin.....and that final sequence, where he puts all his possible nen he’d ever have into his ~final form~ or wahtever & turns into a male version of true form!bisky but dressed in a crop top & short-shorts (i am SCARRED, btw. s c a r r e d !). there’s just huuuge flashes of light as that’s going on, and it reminded me of supernovas or dying stars when i was thinking about it, where the star is like, collapsing under its own weight? & burning thru its own fuel, until there’s nothing left except a dwarf or black hole or what have you. one final, extremely deadly burst of light & energy before death.

On the meruem side of things: born into a dark cave, exhibits a traditionally evil/cruel/wicked/whatever personality/traits so that has ppl associating him with darkness. then he gets to know komugi, starts to appreciate other aspects of humanity, seems like he could have actually turned into a decent person who doesn’t want to eat everyone - so that’s a ‘path to light’, maybe? - and then the extermination team yeets themselves into the palace, netero takes him out to bumfuck nowhere, they fight. netero’s fighting is just ALL light, from his giant ass golden 100-type guanyin bodhisattva to the poor man’s rose. again, there’s the sense of finality to it all, in a similar vein to dying stars: netero comes in determined to kill meruem no matter what, and we all know netero doesn’t flake. then we see netero get destroyed after the zero hand, and he triggers the rose, and everything is burning & on fire before the flames are put out and all turns dark again.

But wait!!! pouf & youpi revive meruem and all he does is play gungi with komugi, even with the poison of the rose. he eventually dies, and the gungi pieces in that final shot of them together (i am BAWLING just thinking about it holy shit) has one that’s all white, one that’s a black ring and white inside. i assume all white is for komugi, who has never done ANYTHING wrong in her LIFE, so i like to think that the 2nd one is for meruem - born “into darkness”, literally & figuratively, but he turns something like ‘good’ by the end. it’s interesting how togashi has sort of gone for a bit of a subversion here: the hero going from light to darkness, and the main antag from darkness to light.

✶ 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 AahhhhHHHHHhhh so if you read all the way down here through my LONG rambles, tysm! i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear what other people think about all this, and i’ve FOR SURE missed tons and tons of stuff - chimera ants is just. SO MUCH. and i don’t know it as well as yorknew eeek.

I’m not sure if i’m really ~knowledgeable~ in any other areas relating to hxh, so this might be the only one of these that i do, but i definitely think about some of this - esp all the religious symbolism & #4 stuff - a ton! so in the meantime, if it’s of any interest, i’m just going to shamelessly plug my hxh x religious beliefs/superstitions edit series :D lots of love to all!!!

Separate Tides Thoughts

HAPPY SEASON 2 PREMIERE DAY!!

This is literally just a bunch of very stream of consciousness writing, from pretty much every time i had a thought about something while rewatching the episode so it may be messy/all over the place

my immediate concern about these videos luz is sending that aren’t going through, is what if the emperor does manage to even briefly open a portal?? would all of her messages suddenly go through only to not be able to contact again?? and maybe that’s why it kinda looks like a detective/conspiracy board behind camila in the trailer because she has plenty of information from luz herself that she now needs to piece together.

completely unimportant detail but i figured lilith’s gem was like eda’s, in how eda’s gem seems to be a part of her, but we can see in luz’s video that it seems to be attached to lilith’s old dress so just what the fuck is up with eda having a gem in her body

also the fact that they decided to be bounty hunters was odd to me, but it’s clear they really need the money. it was also clear later on that not only did eda not want luz to go after the selkidomus to keep her safe, but also because it was an innocent creature. part of me can’t help but wonder if internally a part of eda didn’t want to go after bigger bounties because having once been the biggest bounty herself, she knows that if the emperor wants them that badly then they may actually not be bad at all

i hate that last season everyone was cheering for eda to be freed, but now without magic they’re very willing to take advantage of her and talk about her. it’s mean and i expected public gossip to happen more for lilith for being a traitor, but then again people may not know about her magic yet so maybe they do still fear her a bit. all of this kinda tells me though that people bought belos’ crap about eda being stripped of her magic because she’s a wild witch, so they’re all judging her again

i love how bitter lilith is about the golden guard. also teen? kinda curious if any of our teens would’ve known him when very young or if he was raised specifically for this role

i like the detail on belos’ statue where there’s a crack over his eye around the same spot luz broke his mask

love how much eda cares for luz and puts her needs first and buying her the only foods she can digest and likes. such a mom. it’s also very clear that she’s struggling and doesn’t want luz to worry about it at all. also side note, love that lilith was asking about apple blood, pls let these sisters get drunk together.

it does not surprise me that eda likes to bring up the curse pretty casually as a retort back at lilith. it seems very in her nature to use it like that, but i can’t help but wonder if she’s avoiding actually addressing it. and if she keeps joking, will that affect lilith into like, idk a breakdown that forces the two of them to talk about it.

okay so now we can clearly see lilith’s magic is on it’s last legs. almost got herself fucking killed by some fire bees. that being said i’m very concerned about her whole “who am i without magic? without a coven?” i think she kinda misses the structure, and is still used to only knowing what to do simply because she had a leader to follow.

“I AM A WITCH, UNHINGED” i think she’ll be adapting to the chaotic nature of the owl house crew in no time though if she keeps acting like this

it does not surprise me that after pardoning eda, the coven would jump at the first opportunity to arrest her again. pretty sure she’ll be a wanted criminal again in no time.

golden guard very much concerns me. villains that go from really fun to intimidating or threatening as fast he seems to do here are ones i worry about. it kinda feels like he enjoys scaring people?? idk im not sure how to describe it. anyways threatening to hold them over the boiling seas where even the steam will give them third degrees feels really fucking cruel but maybe im empathizing here because at the time of writing this im still suffering from second degree burns i got three weeks ago so third degree sounds horrifying rn

love how excited lilith is seeing hooty at work when she’s not the one getting beaten up.

I’m glad luz and eda are talking about luz’s guilt and that eda knows what she’s been carrying around now. i didn’t want to see luz carry around all that guilt for so long she’s too good for that AND its misplaced guilt.

i do love though how at the beginning of the episodes we see the lengths eda will go to by prioritizing food for luz first and doing everything she can to keep the girl safe, and then we come back full circle to seeing the lengths luz is willing to go to for eda as well

Luz is SO clever. This girl is so smart and creative and her solution for helping the selkidomus is just wonderful. And also look at that fake selkidomus she made!! That is amazing!!

i LOVE the parallel between eda doing her first light glyphs and when luz did her first ones. i’m also glad eda didn’t struggle with the glyph like i’ve seen some people worry could have happened

just occurred to me that eda mentioned the gris will sell at the night market. its probably nothing but does make me concerned about them becoming night market vendors instead.

it’s hard to hear but as we go further into the scrying potion and see the emperor, and the very end of the “what are we eating” conversation that’s fading out from the owl house we hear lilith say “i’m fine with whatever, things are starting to feel right again” and idk if she means since she left the coven or for the first time since she was a kid but either way im so glad to hear it

also my brother pointed out belos is probably saying “knock knock human” because he knows he’s being spied on by the owl house with the potion and i hate that because if the emperor takes any action because of it, it’ll probably be another lilith fucked up moment because she didn’t think it through.

also, one other thing i couldn’t help but do in this episode was notice some parallels between luz and lilith! they’re both going out of their way to try and do something for eda, and are both insistent that they have to do this alone. but also lilith’s line about “you have no idea what im going through” really did make me think perhaps underneath everything she has a dramatic personality, and luz does too at times for fun and wouldn’t it be cute if they got along over something like that.

💕 so uh. lets talk about our idiot blondie for a sec, because i love him so much (kinnie moment) hes so fucking DUMB and so complex and like. probably a clone. but he has so much trauma for being just 16 (mood) and i think his whole storyline so far is super interesting and him and belos are an interesting parallel to luz and eda because of the whole bringing in a non magic person who wants to be a witch and doing stuff with that and showing an abusive parent in a different way than amitys family situation and aaaaahh hes a lot

now i wanna talk about our under rated baby boy king. idk why im so attached to the idiot brother type that has so much trauma underneath their base personalities but fuck dude king just hits so different tbh. his whole storyline about finding his dad but not worrying too much overall since he has a family in eda and luz??? wow cant handle this man im going to Cry

also one day i will talk about how much i absolutely adore eda but im also gonna talk about ut/dr so ill do that later

🎥 still not over the grom dance in the year of our lord 2021. the whole dance is so well animated and the representation it began to bring in for lumity?? wow i cannot even its just so well done. i also love the scene where eda and lilith are fighting in the season 1 finale? like before she fully turns into the owl beast goes insane. oh! and all of the hunting palisman episode and then the amity and hunter fight for the same reasons as the eda lilith fight because animation my absolute beloved

💕 kris is an infinitely interesting character to me not only because they kinda destroy the trope of only nonbinary representation being inhuman but theyre also so much more than that. i know we’ve talked about this a lot because deltarune our beloved but them being the only human in a town full of monsters, feeling isolated because theyre again. 🎥 throws a fit everytime queen is on screen in chapter 2. also susie in general shes perfect and her relationship with noelle and how its playing out is perfection. all of the secret boss stuff also, jevil was hard as shit and very frustrating at times but i also enjoyed the fight because i love difficult battles in games like this where im ok at the battle mechanics and need more of a challenge. same with specifically snowgrave spamton because hes harder when its just you as opposed to when its the full team imo. i like difficult fights thats why in ut i do the genocide route to fight [redacted boss] and sans theyre both so weirdly fun to fight it sparks joy

dee em cee 5 anon here for my final report... i did it, i finished story! vergil is a bastard gold orb stealer and i feel like hes mocking me every time hes casually strolling around like he knows im toast as soon as he uses sdt. i almost cried when nero called kyrie im just,,, i care him so much. very rude and uncalled for to instantly take his newfound family away from him tho. i also have some emotions about how strong and persistent v was thru this entire thing. and the parallel of nero hating himself of not being strong enough to protect credo and vergil saying that thing about not being able to protect anything wo power that ive seen in gifsets and how despite that parallel they went completely different ways about it. (i only have impressions to base this on but thru this entire game nero felt like the most idk, 'human' character to me. like when everyone else is in full badass mode doing what needs to be done, nero is allowed to show his emotions even tho they arent always whats 'expected' of him.) and how nero physically helped v carry on when v couldnt do it by himself anymore and how incredibly important that makes nero. and- okay ill stop dumping every single thought i have here, also idk how postable this is w many spoilers...

YESSSSSS NERO IS SUCH A GREAT CHARACTER I LOVE HIM!!! Emotionally I agree with you for the ending, but thinking back on it I also think its the best they couldve came up with because it closes enough doors but opens just as much. Like for exemple, theres the passing of the torch: after an entire game of Nero trying to prove to Dante (but mostly, to himself) that he isn't in fact, dead weight. Which Im willing to bet Dante only called him that because it was hard to focus on beating Vergil Urizen if he had to worry about Nero killing Vergil Urizen and Vergil Urizen killing Nero, its not that he doubted Nero, its just that he didnt want Nero to get involved because that would result in him killing his father, because "those of Sparda's blood are destined to fight" (which is a STUPID rule made up by Dante and Vergil. Well yeah maybe those of Sparda's blood do if the only ones in existance did nothing but fight. To kill each other. They didnt consider an alternative until a third player forcefully made them realize. And might I had, this is the only reason why Dante didnt tell Nero he was his uncle before). Anyway, even the meta kept implying that Nero was "lesser" than Dante: Dante is the "Legendary Devil Hunter" while Nero is just the "Devil Hunter". So Dante entrusting Nero with protecting the human world is like, what I believe the game was leading to.

Another exemple is the handling of Vergil: what satisfying ending do you give to a character that was both the problem and the solution? Urizen had to pay for what he did but after everything V went through, he absolutely deserves to live. So what do you do? You don't kill Vergil (Nero made a big point of that) but you also don't let him connect to his son, he has to go to a completely different realm to fix the mess hes made and get "stuck" there. BUT this time Dante come with him, and its also a good ending for Dante because after losing his brother a grand total of three time, this time he went with him, which Im pretty sure is something he beat himself up for not doing back in dmc3, and now the two are stuck in some sort of limbo in hell, fighting apparently forever, but its the one thing they love the most because the person theyre fighting is the only one capable of keeping up with them. Outside of Nero. And speaking of Nero, on top of Dante aknowledging his strength aka what he was basically after the whole game until the third act, and entrusting the human world to him, he is now the literal keepsake of his father's humanity (represented by the book, which he read at the end, so I take it as a hint of him wanting his father to be in his life in a way abd as a way to connect to him) as well as a promise to return, and even if we don't get another game, a promise of a future for this relationship. AND he gets to go home.

I have a lot to say on V as well, how do you develop a character thats too powerful to want or even need to change? You take the power from them and make then remember why they wanted that power in the first place: because of the fear of dying and for survival. And also make them witness the worst of who they are from an outside point of view.

Oh and yeah bro Nero and Vergil share some many similar lines, like, the one you speak about? "Might control everything. And without strength, you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself." ? Nero says some of this, almost word for word, unprompted, to no one, just before the artemis boss fight. Theres also any mention of the word "power", the "I can still fight." line, the "Where did you learn to [...]?!" line, some of the insults they say to demons, they even have both a line featuring marshmallows. Its so wonderfully unsubtle i love it so much. But even outside of lines they are very similar and I remember reading somewhere that Nero wouldve turned similar to Vergil if he didnt had the support of Kyrie et Credo.

And like you said yeah, out of the three people that have Sparda's blood, Nero is the most human one, genetically of course, he is 3/4 human after all, and he also have the most contact with other humans, but he also act much more genuinely and impulsively than either of the brothers. Hes also very nuanced as in, he is fundamentally a good person, but he also has an edge to him. I feel youve summed what is great and what I like about him pretty well.

Oh and btw did you see the animations in the garage menu? I think they shouldve unlocked once youre done with the story

spoilers 4 the devil all the time under the cut 😪 ignore this ! i just needed 2 write this out b4 i went nuts thinking about it

right so i was reading the prologue of the book and this part jumped out at me:

because if you've seen the movie you'll know the order of events depicted goes like this: A. while willard & arvin are praying at the log, two hunters pass by and make inappropriate remarks about charlotte - willard tells arvin to ignore them and continue praying B. when willard and arvin go to pick up sugar at the store, willard stops the truck abruptly, gets out and beats the shit out of the same two hunters from before, gets back in the truck, and tells arvin that he "just has to pick the right time to stand up for [himself]" while wiping his bloody knuckles with a dirty rag (❗❗❗ wauuuaugh parallels .) C. when they get home, arvin goes in first and finds the kitchen cloudy with smoke and charlotte lying on the ground, unconscious. we find out she's dying. D. willard was religious before but now he prays even more desperately, backhanding and shouting at arvin to pray for his mum. we see him start to descend into a downward spiral from here onwards

so obv films have to add/subtract and shuffle events around for time's sake + conciseness, but i havent gotten past 1/4 of the book yet, so im taking a shot in the dark at assuming they intentionally added the part where they find charlotte unconscious so that it’s IMMEDIATELY after willard beats up the two hunters for dramatic effect etc etc idk im not going to expand on this today . but what this means is the film now veers onto the path where willard’s actions directly lead to his wife’s diagnosis. the crazed manner in which he prays (begs) God to save his wife, sacrificing his son’s dog as a sort of offering/exchange to heal her, the grief that leads him to kill himself after she dies? the religious mania ramps up to 100 straight after she was diagnosed, and im willing to bet you my entire coffee jar that the film’s decision to position the spiral of events leading to his wife’s death immediately after willard’s vengeful incident was a punishment (from who? from the God he worships so fervently?) - at least in his mind, anyway (you can’t tell me he wasn’t a little bit off in the head about the religion thing in the first place anw) .

the film leaves a lot of nonverbal cues, and arvin as an older boy is a lot more solemn than the younger arvin we see in the beginning, so we can sort of assume the extent of emotional trauma he’s been through, especially with the way his parents die one after the other . but the book produces a whole new dimension of his character, telling us that a). arvin thinks his father’s a load of rubbish when he ignores the hunters b). thinks he’s wonderful when he beats up the hunters c). declares that that day was the best he’d ever had with his father. -> what effect does this have on book-arvin?? and by extension, film-arvin???? from what we can glean from his take of that fateful day, this demonstration of events literally gift-wraps the promise of [beat someone up to defend your name = people you love dying as a consequence of it]. how does that translate to the rest of his actions in the later part of the film? if we slot the lens of this awful tragedy over his decisions in the film, what are we going to see?

it’s set with the same tone as chewing gum, where the show is serious and adult like but it’s very obvious the tone is comedic and the humor is very subtle

maia and izzy have been best friends their whole lives, even tho maia is a werewolf and izzy’s family would always try to keep izzy away from her izzy would say fuck that and just hang out with her cool friend maia

they have the type of friendship where they call each other hot, have seen each other naked probably a million times, and people constantly think they are dating but their friendship is completely platonic

maia works at hunters moon and izzy constantly goes there and hangs out with her, izzy is so comfortable in the place that she just gets to go behind the counter and serve her own drink she can do whatever she wants

maia has the same relationship with luke and knows about clary and her mom but has never met them.

the kidnapping of j*celyn never happens.

maia meets clary when one night they run into each other (maia has never seen how she looks) and clary notices maia acting “sick”, maia knowing she is about to turn tries to run away from clary but clary being the kind hearted idiot she is follows her to make sure she is safe.

when maia turns clary is obviously freaked out because wow a human just became a wolf, but she isn’t scared she is actually just impressed and wants to know more but oh oh here comes alec to save her and knocks her tf out

alec calls izzy to let her know what happened to maia and izzy tells him they are gonna need a warlock’s help to erase “the girl’s” memory. they still don’t know it’s clary.

dot’s in this and she is essentially part of the shadow world, like she isn’t hiding with jocelyn, she lives with luke so their first instinct is to take her there.

when they get there dot explains that clary is essentially her sister who is shadowhunter but can’t know, and maia finally puts a face to the name clary. luke tells her she can’t know shit tho

maia doesn’t agree with this since clary is essentially an adult and deserves to know who she is, and like why would they not tell her?

when dot is about to take clary’s memory maia calls izzy and creates a plan to take clary away and let her finally know who she is, she doesn’t know clary but she knows that if it were her she would want someone to do this for her, and she knows the feeling of not knowing what is happening to you or why you are the way you are.

they kidnap clary and take her to the institute

clary has the same meet cute with izzy.

clary recognizes maia once her and alec walk in and maia explains everything to her and clary is just like “man i knew there was something going on that’s wack”

ANYWAY THEIR UNIVERSE:

the reason they couldn’t tell clary was because she has the same rune abilities but people wanted to use them for not good reasons so they basically faked her death and hid her, so when she comes into the shadow world she is unkown. and that’s where i think the main plot would come from but nothing dramatic just them escaping idiots that want clary but idk they always end up killing them or something and it’s a running joke that it is like a mild inconvenience? like someone will try to kidnap clary and she will be like “AGAIN? A FUCKING GAIN? i haven't even had my coffee yet dude”

alec and magnus are a side couple but get the same development and main storylines

simon is alec’s vampire friend, who he was also forbidden to hang out with but like simon is simon and he is persistent so alec just let’s him be

they are best friends and they are Stupid i’ve talked a million times about how their friendship would be one braincell jumping from brain to brain

clary and izzy fall in love but the fun part is that in this clary is a confident lesbian so she just flirts with izzy shamelessly

maia and clary connect through them feeling like sisters and their pasts kind of paralleling each other

maia doesn’t really date anyone until simon brings a long his sister who knows he is a vampire and suddenly maia can’t function properly

clary and izzy get together once izzy gets tired of clary flirting (a running joke is izzy being swept off her feet by clary’s words but then ranting to everyone about her frustrations with clary not just shoving her against a wall and making out with her, alec hates hearing it every time) and just kisses her in front of everyone

after that they start dating and are inseparable.

their relationship never makes maia feel left out or uncomfortable because it’s like a package deal type of friendship yk

they have to go through normal inconvenience from day to day life but it’s fun because you know there’s vampires and warlocks and werewolves

magnus and maia are really good friends and consider each other family, and when he starts dating alec izzy becomes like a little sister to him.

they are also all really dumb.

also i can’t decide if it would be the office style where they are just being filmed by a camera crew. honestly this whole thing would have a what we do in the shadows vibe

im gonna go for a half sibling thing again for laurel. maybe the lances are famous huntsmen and huntresses? that seems to follow. laurel.... probably went to one of the combat schools (maybe haven or atlas if the lances went to beacon) but dropped out after her oliver died. maybe even her oliver and e-1 oliver were on the same boat/airship and e-1 oliver survived and thats partially why shes so pissed at him. anyway she probably falls in with some criminal group because shes aura trained and got her semblance unlocked (obviously, sonic bullshit), and thats very appealing. either someone big like in salem’s larger collection, or maybe something more small time like lil miss malachite’s gang. or hell if we really wanna push it, she ended up with one of the raider tribes like the branwens, or maybe she was raised there or... something. yeah laurel translates pretty smoothly. her name even works because laurel’s a plant!

i was gonna say maive is from atlas but... i think something like the brawnen tribe works better, since 1) she HAS to be a faunus, cmon but also 2) her family needs to be complicit in the systematic abuse, so. raider tribe works. maive gets nearly killed in an initiation ritual and barely manages to run away. even though shes still pretty sickly and hasn’t gotten her semblance unlocked she goes to beacon. her semblance is... maybe something kind of op. maybe something to parallel all her deaths somehow. yeah! she, ratchet, naruto, and... someone else are a team. gardner? heather? uhhhh

fun fact, i almost considered apping winter for a hot second until i went “wait, she’s too similar to margot” and called it off. so there you go. margot would basically be a schnee. but... no really, the vergers are definitely a high powered atlas family. what do they make? who knows! and the situation is, uh... pretty similar. i guess mason probably gets killed by a grimm eel instead, though

ivypool... well, warrior cats transfer pretty neatly to huntsmen and huntresses, so shes from a long and prestigious line of hunters. she gets overshadowed because dovewing unlocks her semblance very early and it’s VERY op, whereas ivypool hasn’t yet. this leads to a lot of resentment and lets hawkfrost, from one of the branches of salem’s faction, manipulate her (like other kids her age) into kind of working for them. eventually she breaks out of it and becomes a proper huntress, but yes!

violetpaw... she’s a faunus her mother’s village was attacked by grimm and she got separated from everyone else (skyclan) before violet and twig are born. and then her mom dies, and they get taken in by.... maybe needlepaw and alderpaw are at the local pre-combat school (like signal)? idk anyway wherever they are theres a growing rift and eventually needletail, along with violetpaw, end up going with darktail’s fringe branch of the white fang. maybe. i guess darktail could just have his own gang too? i dont know! anyway violetpaw probably has some kind of sneaky cool semblance, which she probably unlocks to get around darktail
