I am not, apparently, immune to coupons for niche nonfiction that's directly up my alley (octopus minds and RUSSIAN OWLS, hello??? Thanks, bookshop!).

I thought perhaps the BURGLAR'S GUIDE would also be covered under said coupon, since it was publisher-specific (alas: it was Not, but we might as well bundle for shipping purposes). And then while I was shopping IRL for gifties I found a copy of ROOM, which has been on my list for...ever? So! Hopefully these will hold me over on the nonfiction front for a minute!

My original Goodreads goal for 2023 was 15 books and I finished number 14 today. Can I finish another book by the end of August? 👀👀

u know since every library doesnt have every book or multiple copies of it and often you might not even be able to request something on short notice - it would be cool if there were like a public citizens catalog where like parallel to the library if someone owns a book that you want to read you could just borrow/exchange/get it for free from them. like ik we have those "free library" boxes around my town but those are often books people just don't care to have anymore and its not like you can easily get a book you actively are trying to read. anyways I don't really have coding skills but it would be cool. at least I might a list of the physical books I own and see if my friends want to make their own and share it w me.... 🤔

hey if anyone has a storygraph and wants to follow me on there i'm tasseomancie!!! storygraph is like goodreads but has more stat breakdowns and isn't owned by amazon! it's a great alternative imho. i just joined so my stats r not very impressive, but i'm looking forward to reading a lot more and hopefully finishing 9 more books by the end of the year!!

Hi Aurelie! Would you recommend watching bridgerton from season 1 to fully understand Penelope and Colin’s relationship or can I just go straight into season 3?

I think it's best to watch from the beginning to understand the whole story, but I think you can also skip the main couple parts of their respective season because they don't affect (or is it effect??) the Colin/Penelope relationship.

That being said, I love all the interactions they have with other characters on the show and you will miss out on so much fun stuff if you only watch season3.

So long answer short, yes I do recommend to watch from season 1 :p

"this book has gay characters" is no longer a significant and unique trait in the YA book world, and a lot of really low quality books are still getting upheld as perfect and special for it anyways, despite their, you know. complete lack of anything else good

and it's an interesting phenomenon but also a very annoying one

okay, i give up. i'm calling it, time of death 11:02pm. i hereby officially unsubscribe from the l0tr newsletter. it's funny because whenever anyone asks me if i'm the type of person who always finishes a book even when i hate it, i'm like, "yes, except this one time i gave up on the fellowship otr after the first 50 pages when i was like 10." here we are decades later and i'm doing it again. and the best part is, i did actually successfully read this book and the other two in the series at some point in those intervening decades. i tried to read this book three times and only succeeded once. 33% hit rate, compared to my rate of 100% for every other book i have ever seriously tried to read. i really want to get it but i just don't. i'm giving myself permission to move on with my life. i'm not ashamed! i will say it since everyone else is too chicken apparently: some people find this seemingly universally beloved book series very boring and i am among their number!
