Since your ask things says send fic ideas:
Maybe something where Sonic ends up losing his powers (his speed and whatever the electricity stuff he does is called) somehow and he and his parents have to figure out how to live with that? Maybe while also figuring out how to get his powers back?
I've never seen the idea of how losing his powers would affect Sonic and those around him explored before, so I just think it's interesting to wonder about.
Okay, here we go. Enjoy the angst.
Sonic Loses his Powers
----------------------------
Maniacal laughter filled the room as his senses started coming to reality. His ears were ringing and the first thing that hit his nose was the stench of chemicals and machinery.
He blearily opened his eyes everything was fuzzy and he felt a headache forming. Where was he? What happened?
He drew in a long breath, and his lungs ached, squeezing his eyes shut. He realized he was laying on something cold. He was sitting in an upright position, that much was obvious. He tried to move his arm but it was stuck there. All of his limbs were tied down by something he didn't know. He couldn't open his eyes.
He tried to recall the last thing he had seen. There was an explosion... And then...
Mom and dad...
His brothers.
Where are they?
Somehow he managed to blink open his eyes again and his vision was more clear. And he wished it wasn’t. He was in a room, the brick walls were rusty and old with several cracks and what looked to be burn marks. However, the wall in front of him was glass, and on the other side he could vaguely make out someone standing there, looking like they were typing on a computer. Until that vague figure became more clear and it looked at him with a grin of pure evil.
There was a noise from the corner that crackled like a speaker “Good morning hedgehog,” Robotnik spoke not at all sounding polite.
Sonic scowled back at him through the glass.
“I'm glad you're awake so soon! That means we should go ahead and get started shall we?” His eyes were cold and heartless and they burned a hole into his soul.
His breathing hastened and he tried to move his legs move his arms anything! He needed to get away.
Robotnik smiled through the hatred in his voice. “Don’t fight it. Save your breath, you’ll need it.”
He needed to run he needed to get away but he couldn't he was stuck, the restraints were too tight.
He fought the restraints so much that he could hardly breathe and he was gaping for air. So now he sat still as a statue, paralyzed with fear.
“Where are they?!” he managed to choke out through the fear, his voice cracking on the end.
The man walked closer to the glass as he enjoyed the view of the terrified hedgehog, his face changing to amusement. “Oh who? Those two other rodents and your mommy and daddy?” Eggman said his voice getting higher toward the end. Teasing him.
The teen growled at them. “Where. Are. They?”
Robotnik was smiling with each word that drove knives into the little hedgehog's heart. “They’re dead.”
Sonic’s shrilled scream was enough to wake the dead. “HOW COULD YOU?!” he sobbed out through the tears, he felt electricity disperse through his quills as blue lightning bolts spread across the ground like electric snakes.
The man just watched with amazement and excitement not feeling any empathy whatsoever. Yes. Exactly what Robotnik needed. Keep sparking you stupid little rodent.
He felt like he couldn't breathe. The whole world was crushing in on him and he couldn't do anything but thrash uselessly against the restraints tieing him down.
Somehow through his tears and screaming he was able to pick up the sound of a machine whirring to life.
“Don’t worry.” Eggman smiled. “It will only sting just a bit.”
The hedgehog’s screams became louder and more blood-curdling as four light blue colored beams latched onto him like claws from the corners of the small room. There was pain everywhere, he couldn't breathe, couldn't think, couldn't do anything.
His frame hunched over, baling his hands up into fists, his face in complete agony as he gritted his teeth together. The only sound he could hear above the machinery was hysterical laughter.
It felt like that one time he got tased, but this was a thousand times worse. The evil laughter stopped and then he heard a loud boom that could only be an explosion. The claw-like beams suddenly disappeared only to be replaced by the whirring of sirens. He swayed on his knees before he fell over and everything went black.
...
..
.
“....-onic!”
“-Mother he has awoken!”
He heard hurried footsteps from... somewhere. And then the sound of hushed voices.
Something touched his arm, he wanted to open his eyes but he couldn't. “Baby? Oh my God. Sonic, please wake up.” the voice sounded suspiciously like Maddie but that didn't make sense... They’re gone.
Oh my gosh they're dead. ...-is he dead?
A higher-pitched voice popped up. “I saw him move! He must be regaining consciousness any time now.” the voice was suddenly laced with worry as it trembled. “H-he will right?”
“Do not worry fox.” A boulder and deeper voice. “The hedgehog is a very strong and noble warrior it would take more than that to take him out.”
Okay, he definitely wasn't dead.
Somehow he was able to blink open his eyes squinting them against the light. And there was no mistaking his parents and his brothers standing there.
Maddie was practically right up against his face, she had tears welling in her eyes.
He saw he was laying on the couch, covered in two blankets and a pillow underneath his head.
But it didn't make sense. His family was gone right?
He reached out weakly with one arm to touch her, to really see if she was there. “M-mom,” he said but it came out more as a wheeze followed by a coughing fit.
She shakily grabbed his hand, ushering him to try and sit up because he was coughing so much. “Sweetie, you're okay, can you sit up for me?” Maddie tried to sound calm but he could hear the tension and worry in her voice.
She guided his back with her hand until he was finally sitting upright. He saw Tom out of the corner of his eyes holding a glass of water. “Here bud, drink some water okay.” his voice shared the same emotion as Maddie’s.
The glass was held up to his lips and he drank from it, not realizing how thirsty he had been.
He wanted to complain or come up with some sarcastic joke that he wasn't a baby, and that he could hold the cup himself. But he couldn't do anything besides let out a whine before clamping his jaw back shut.
His dad was instantly stroking his face with his thumb while his mom grabbed his wrist. He watched her eyes widen with fear or worry, he couldn't really tell. “Your pulse is so much slower.”
“S’cuase ‘m tired.” he said sluggishly, his ears drooping and he he lowered his head.
“No, no this is different.” There was a lot of things different about him and it was shown as clear as day. One, his fur looked paler, it has lost that bright blue tint and was more of a very light blue. Almost white. And two, his eyes once full of energy and life seemed solemn and had lost their brightness and energy.
There was a clicking sound as they all turned to see Tails holding a device in his hands as he fiddled with it. He moved past his worried parents holding it up to hedgehog for at least ten seconds, the concern growing in his face the longer time ticked on. He swallowed then spoke “When I would face this at Sonic before it would always beep. I built this to find him a long time ago and used it to track his chaos energy, but now it's showing that there's... Nothing.” The fox twidled with his namesakes looking uneasy.
“What does that mean?” Tom asked fear lacing his voice.
“It means that there is no chaos energy in his body anymore, that energy is what allowed him to run that fast and generate electricity.” He didn't like what he had to say next, ”Robotnik must’ve taken it somehow. I'm honestly surprised that he made it out alive.”
Sonic’s shocked terrified cry cut the family’s hearts clean in half. All four of them rushed over to give the hedgehog a hug.
Even Knuckles, the bravest and most stubborn of the family felt a few tears well up in his eyes seeing his brother like this. “Do not fear brother. We will avenge you and give the robot man what he deserves.”
Not even their hugs or comforting words could ease the hedgehog's cries.

(I'm not sure if I'll ever finish this or not but for now your stuck with the angst.)

summary: "my life? what if you just take it instead?" said the sailor to the mermaid.
a/n: this is probably the best i've felt about a smut piece i've written. that ebb & flow lvl 55 story has me in a chokehold, i tell you.
Tumblr media
“Maybe from the start… it was all a trap. Maybe the mermaid was after the sailor’s life all along.”
You reach forward to press your palm to the side of Rafayel’s face, feeling the heat of his skin burning against yours. Gently, you run your knuckles along the sparkling scales dotting the tops of his cheeks like so many pieces of a misplaced sea. You see his eyes go wide, feel his breath quicken impossibly in his chest.
“Okay.”
Rafayel blinks, and the barest hint of a frown creases his eyebrows as he turns to look at you.
“Okay?”
You smile, leaning forward with a soft sigh, letting your fingers trail down to his neck, where his pulse beats hummingbird fast beneath your touch.
“Mhm… you were saying earlier that you’d be so weak tonight that I could take your life if I wanted it…” you slowly shift your leg, one and then the other, over till you’re straddling Rafayel’s lap, both your hands resting on his shoulders. Fish-tail flashes of emotions flicker behind his eyes as he holds his breath, his fingers trembling as he reaches up to catch your wrists; he holds them tight, but he makes no move to either pull you closer or push you away.
You can feel his uncertainty thrumming in the air between you, static — electric.
“I — did…”
You let your head fall sideways as you flash him a sweet, helpless smile, “Then… if it were all a trap for my life… I’m saying that you can have it.”
You lean forward, and like this, your eye line is just a bit higher than his, forcing him to crane his head upwards to keep ahold of your gaze.
He is so warm beneath you that for a moment, you wonder if he’s activated his Evol by accident.
“I can…” for a moment, he seems confused, even drunk as he stares up at you, and then, the flicker of something behind his eyes as he goes stiff beneath you. Then, his fingers are digging into your hips and his breath is nearly searing across your lips. Your newly released wrists burn where his grip had been just seconds before, and you slowly sink your fingers into the hairs at the nape of his neck.
“Don’t say things you don’t mean — or make promises you’ve no intention of keeping.” There’s a razor’s edge glinting beneath the soft hiss of his voice as he glares at you, a longing as deep as the sea roiling behind his gaze.
You steel yourself, shifting slightly in his lap, your cheeks warming as you feel him quivering beneath you. He’s still hot, too hot, but he holds impossibly still as you lean in, your lips ghosting over his in a phantom kiss.
“Please…” it comes out as a ragged plea, and you’ve never known him to sound so desperate or so utterly broken, “if you don’t — if you’re not —“
You run your thumb along his jaw as you force him to look at you.
“Rafayel… kiss me.”
It is a breaking dam, a cresting wave, crashing against the crumbling edges of his self-restraint — his lips on yours, his tongue pressing, hungry and demanding, into your mouth as he surges up to kiss you. It’s all you can do to cling to him, your hands looping behind his neck as he crushes you to him, his hands suddenly everywhere as he tugs at the hem of your clothes, rucking them up just to press his palm to the bare skin of your waist, your back, to trail them up the ridges of your spine.
He tastes of salt and desire as he groans against your mouth, your fingers tangling in his foam-soft hair, heat tingling through you as he forces your hips against his and you feel him — hot and hard. A soft whine escapes your lips as he pulls back, panting, his eyes misty and dark as he watches you with a wildness that chases shivers down your spine.
“Are you scared?” he asks, his voice low and just a little breathless, “do you regret staying?”
You swallow and shake your head, trailing your fingers down into the already-opened front of his shirt, grazing your nails along the skin there. A delicious, heart-rending anticipation sizzles through you at the way his stomach flexes, and the next moment, he’s dropping his lips to your shoulder, his teeth sinking into the bare skin there even as he grabs your hand and forces it lower — and then lower.
Heat pulses through you as your palm meets his clothed cock and his head drops back with a moan. Like this, the scales on his neck and jaw are even more pronounced, glimmering in the dim, moonless night. You loosen his belt with one hand before tugging it down with the other, but before you can reach for him, he catches your wrists and pulls you bodily back up the length of his torso.
You almost yelp, shocked by his strength and the ease with which he’d hauled you over his lap once more. There’s an intensity to his hooded eyes, so much darker than their usual lost-treasure brightness, but he smirks as he sees the obvious blush marring your cheeks.
“Already embarrassed? Didn’t you say you were going to give me your life?”
You purse your lips, “I — I am.”
A strange expression crosses his face as he scoffs, “I told you… don’t make promises you can’t keep.”
And then he’s kissing you again, harsh and hungering, a ravenousness carving through him into the hollow of you as you roll your clothed core down over his throbbing cock with a loud, hapless moan.
“S-says who I don’t plan on keeping them?” you ask, breathless and panting as he lifts your hips with a hiss and literally tears away your underwear. Shivers shake through you at this blatant display of strength — you’d always known he was strong, stronger than he lets on but you hadn’t expected this. It caves your stomach and curves your spine as a want so carnal it sears your mind threatens to take you over.
“Mm — fuck —”
He swears as he shoves down his own pants and his cock springs free, thick and leaking as it slaps against the tight muscle of his lower abdomen. You can’t help the way your eyes wide or your breath hitches at the sight — your mouth waters, your throat tightens.
Heat pulses between your thighs as you press your lips and reach down to wrap your fingers around his base, giving him a soft, experimental tug.
The low, guttural moan that spills from you threatens to steal your sanity from you entirely. And suddenly, it’s not only him feeling the effects of the eventide night — you too start to wonder if there’s something in the thick heat of the air, in dark moonless skies.
“Come here, princess —” Rafayel’s fingers dig into your arms as he jerks you up again, pulling you up till you’re hovering over his weeping cock, your core throbbing with want, the nickname somehow sending another thrill tingling through you. You wonder if you had been a princess in another life — if Rafayel had known you then too — if you’d also wanted each other as you do now —
“R-Raf — ay — yel — ah!” you brace your arms against his shoulders as you slowly lower yourself over him, both of your eyes caught on the intoxicating sight of him sinking into you, inch by inch, thick and unrelenting, until finally you’re seated fully in his lap again, your breaths coming in quick, harsh gasps as you try to adjust to the sting, the stretch.
“H-hey…” Rafayel strokes a hand along your cheek, his own chest heaving even as he checks in on you, “how — how do you feel?”
You keen, rolling your hips down over him just to watch him shudder, “G-good — ah — fuck — there —!”
You plant your palms on his chest and lift yourself up a few inches before sinking down again. The friction nearly drives all coherence from your brain as Rafayel’s hands fall to your hips, his nails digging crescent moon marks into the plush above your ass.
He groans, “Y-you’re squeezing m-me so… so tight — ngh — fuck fuck fuck — do — do you feel that — right — right there?”
He lets out a panting breath as he forces your hips forward and back as he flicks his eyes down at the place where his cock is disappearing into your cunt over and over, a ring of sticky white collecting round the base as he watches, his eyes glazed over with want.
“Yes — yes — I f-feel it —” you force your thighs to go faster, digging your fingers into his shoulder blades as you try to ride him harder, keening when he dips down to catch one of your nipples between his lips, his teeth sinking into the tender flesh, his tongue circling your sensitive nub. Fire chases down the length of your spine as pleasure explodes in your lower belly as Rafayel rucks up into you faster and faster, reaching up a hand to squeeze at your other breast, thumb kneading at the sensitive nipple till you’re twitching, falling forward into his embrace.
“You really — really like it when I fuck you deep like this, hm?” and he’s just as breathless as he should be, there’s sweat beading at his brow, an almost crazed, unfocused look in his eyes as he pulls back to look up at you, but it only serves you spur you on as you ride him faster and harder, tossing your head back, slamming your hips down into his to chase your own high as you cry out before falling forward against his feverish skin.
He shifts his hips and you go rigid above him, the tip of his cock hitting a particular place inside you that makes the entire world go fuzzy around the edges. Once, twice, three times — and then you’re collapsing, shaking and shuddering as you come undone around him, and he’s swearing beneath you, squeezing you to him with a thick, bitten-off groan.
“Fuck — i-if you keep — squeezing — around me l-like that — ah-ah-hah…!”
You let out a soft whine as you feel him spilling hot inside you, his cock twitching as he shivers, his forehead falling against your shoulder as he sighs.
“Mm… how… how do you… feel?” you ask, your voice hazy with tiredness as you pull back, grinning lazily down at him, twisting your fingers absently through the hairs at the nape of his neck. Rafayel peers up at you after a second, half-reproachful, half-amazed.
“You… really have no idea… do you?”
“No idea… of what?” you ask, cocking your head to the side even as he tugs you in, his softening cock still sheathed inside you, the sticky heat of your juices cooling against your skin.
“Don’t you know what it means to have sex with a Lemurian?”
You laugh, shaking your head, leaning forward to nuzzle into the juncture of his neck and shoulder. You rest your head against the sofa and dig your nose into his skin.
“No… tell me.”
Rafayel’s arms wrap around you, sweet and solid, even as a soft squishing sound alerts you both to the mess you’ve undoubtedly made on his artisanal couch. Neither of you pay it much mind.
“It means that you’re tied to me forever — for this lifetime at least, and that… if you ever try to have sex with anyone else…” Rafayel drops his voice, murmuring into the shell of your ear as you shy away at giggle, “You’ll suffer dire consequences.”
You laugh, shaking your head, “Well, good thing I wasn’t planning on having sex with anyone else then. In this lifetime… or the next.”
Rafayel goes still beneath you. And for a second, it’s just you and him and the catching of lost breaths, the remembering of things once forgotten, lives once lived and yet to be lived again.
“Haven’t I told you? Don’t say things you don’t mean…”
You lift your head to look at him, a soft smile lifting your cheeks as you sigh.
“You keep saying that… but I’ve meant everything I said,” you say, trailing your fingers along the high of his cheekbones, the line of his jaw. You feel his skin burn fire-hot beneath the pads of your thumbs as you run them along his bottom lip.
“Promise you’re not lying,” he says, and he’s not indignant any longer, but reverent and eager, almost anxious.
“I promise.”
“Can your promises be trusted?”
You smile before leaning in to run your lips along his neck, tracing his pulse all the way up to his lips with a light, lingering kiss.
“You tell me, sly merman… weren’t you just saying that the mermaid of legend had set a clever trap for the sailor? So tell me, clever, clever merman… if you’ve bound me to you forever… what power would I have to lie to you, hm?”
Rafayel scoffs, pouting as he looks away, “Unbelievable.”
You laugh, lying your cheek back against his chest with a small sigh, “You should learn to believe it… I mean, I did just willingly give you my life.”
Rafayel makes a soft tsk-ing noise as he pinches you lightly on the thigh, “You really don’t know what you’re saying, do you?”
You shake your head, “No… I know exactly what I’m saying.”
Rafayel grunts, though you know by the sound of his voice that he’s grinning, even as he turns to face away from you. You fancy you can feel the heat as it kisses pink the tips of his ears. You reach up to run a finger along the bright scales still pressing up from beneath his skin as he lets out a soft hiss, turning back to look at you.
“You might not believe me but… at least… I have the rest of my life to prove it to you.”

Hi! Can I request tieflings with touch starved Tav? 💫
touch starved.
Tumblr media
a/n: this probably /definitely/ should've been an actual fic. i like... mixed an actual plot with headcanons IDKKK i'm new alright. at least i finished a blog for once. pat me on the back for that! also, i've never written for any of them, so lmk if you have critiques!! AND LEAVE MORE TIEF BOYS ASK I AM OBSESSED. loved this request btw!!! hope i did it justice!
warnings: nothing this is so fluffy and innocent.
rolan.
• out of the three of the tieflings, he's definitely the most touch starved.
• i mean he's literally never been touched by anyone besides his siblings, and that's mostly just them smacking him.
• after a long day of getting your ass kicked /and maybe accidentally walking into your own moonbeam once/ you decided to visit sorcerer sundries alone to check up on your old friend.
• evidently, rolan had a equally horrible day. well, it was the same as usual, but rolan was more bitchy.
• when he saw you though, all of his irritation and annoyance flooded from his body, and it seemed like he completely lit up.
• "new bruise?" she asked, watching as the corner of his lips turned upwards. a genuine, non-snarky smile was rare from rolan. he rolled his amber eyes at you, nodding regardless.
• "new scar on your nose, hm?" rolan retorted, and your hand went up to rub at the bridge of your nose. you hadn't even realized that you'd been bleeding there. huh. at least it'd be a cool place for a scar.
• before either of you realized it, rolan's hands were clasped around one of yours, his thumb rubbing circles onto your palm. you froze. who even knew how long it'd been since you'd been touched like that--- if ever. even gale brushing shoulders with you made you tense up, let alone a touch by a really cute tiefling.
• he notices your reaction and can't help but laugh, making the tip of your ears flush pink, and you glared at him. rolan's freckled cheeks are just as warm as yours.
• "i've been worried about you, you know." he blurts out, and for a second he pictured cal and lia teasing him for hours on end. they all knew he liked tav, and had ever sense their brief encounter at the grove, her fierceness leaving him staring with wide eyes and a blushed face. ever since then, they never shut up about his little crush.
• "i know." you whispered, and you finally relaxed into his touch. rolan kept looking down at your shared hands. "but i'm not the one with fresh bruises."
• rolan clicked his tongue in annoyance, wishing he wasn't completely marked up by lorroakan, but he had no say in the matter. he figured you knew why he had these marks.
• "lorroakan isn't the best teacher in the world, i'll admit. don't worry about me though." rolan grumbled out. ah yes, this tone was the rolan she remembered. the grumpy one.
• your hands move to tuck a piece of hair behind his ears before brushing your knuckles gently across the fresh bruise on his jaw. rolan turned his gaze to the ground, and you heard him whining out some form of insult as your hand grazed his skin.
• "your skin's warm," you mumble regardless. "i could always kill him, y'know. well, i'm going to anyway. but i could speed it for you. and uhm--- i know a pretty decent wizard. gale, the one you met? much better than that asshole. he'd love to train you." you slightly ramble, and rolan watches as you fidget with your left hand, so he squeezes it gently. "i mean, i'd like you to... join too."
• "thank you, tav. i'll think about it." rolan's already made up his mind. he'd work for anyone as long as it wasn't lorroakan. he pressed a few kisses along your knuckles before dropping your hand.
• rolan can guess by the way you react to his touch that you're as touch starved as him and after that, it basically becomes a competition to see who can fluster each other more. /he does not win./
dammon.
• dammon is naturally very touchy. he talks with his hands and with his tail, so usually one of two will end up on the friends he talks to.
• with you, he's a little more shy, though. more careful, one could say. anytime you spoke, his sharp blue eyes were on yours, and he concentrated more on making sure he wasn't practically wagging his damn tail at you.
• today, you had your arms folded as you sat on one of the crates in the corner of his forge. dammon was finishing up a dagger for you, /his work too heavy for your liking, but you needed an excuse to talk to him, so you'd give them to astarion/ and you had been talking his ear off about your latest adventure.
• dammon didn't mind at all, humming in acknowledgement while he finished wiping the oil off of the blade.
• "here. crafted with love and care." the teifling teased, handing you your new weapon to inspect. and it was beautiful, perhaps one of the finest daggers you'd seen, with a lovely intricate design. dammon had made you plenty before, but each weapon and armor was just as beautiful. your eyes marveled at it, smiling before rummaging around your belt for your bag of coins.
• "it's lovely as always, dammon. thank you!" you beamed and you noticed his tail flicker from behind him. "and how much do i owe you again?"
• "you brought all the material's, my friend. and you brought me company today. how about you let me take you for a walk and we call it even?"
• his words felt like he'd just asked you on a date, but you jumped up from your place on the box, nodding enthusiastically.
• the heart of baldur's gate was much more relaxing in the evening. it wasn't god awfully hot, and the sky muted to a warm fuschia. and you couldn't help but admire the way dammon looked with his work sleeves rolled up, a content smile on his face as he led you through the streets.
•honestly, it was obvious to everyone besides you two that you two liked each other. dammon was oblivious, and, well... you just figured it wasn't safe enough to get into a relationship.
• little did you know, someone named karlach accidentally shared to dammon that you may have a thing for him.
• "so... are you going to continue that story about wyll?" dammon asked sweetly and you felt his tail move up towards the small of your back. like he was holding it while you two walked. at first you tried to ignore it, but the small act of touch made your face heat up.
• dammon must have noticed because he dropped his tail, instead moving to intertwine your fingers together.
• thankfully, the story of wyll was too good to keep quiet, so you were able to lean into his touch, dammon's eyes twinkling as you started to ramble on.
• also, once dammon notices just how touch starved you are, he will literally not be able to keep his hands off of you.
• massages, hand holding, wrapping his tail around your calf, rustling your hair when you say something silly--- definitely the touchiest out of the three.
zevlor.
• zevlor is also extremely touch starved, maybe more than rolan, he's just not as obvious. unlike the two younger boys, he feels like he's too old for feelings, especially for warriors like yourself.
• and unlike the two younger boys, zevlor's much better at hiding his feelings. his tail doesn't swing behind him, he doesn't flush like rolan, and he doesn't really speak on feelings like dammon.
• zevlor does admire you though, that much is obvious from his flaming rust eyes watching you carefully as you sneaked from conversation to conversation. you were strong and a leader just like him. it made you two have a lot in common.
• zevlor was tense when you approached him. most of the younger tieflings were laughing away, dancing even, all drunk as can be. the paladin had a chalice of wine in his hand, shoved forcefully by a certain large druid, but he had not yet even taken a sip. how could he? he had much on his mind.
• "drinking tonight?" you asked brightly, your smile enticing as you peered up at him while taking a swig of your own wine. your nose scrunched in disgust at the taste; tiefling wine wasn't most people's preferred choice for alcohol.
• zevlor chuckled and shook his head, tilting his glass slightly, so she could see that it was still full.
• "i've got too much to deal with--- tomorrow's trek will not be a simple task, tav." zevlor replied, setting down the glass on the table next to them.
• you frowned. that couldn't do. if you could relax, so could he. even leaders deserve their chance to have fun.
• "you deserve one good night of fun before tomorrow." you smiled. the teifling nodded his head slowly, tiredly rubbing his eyes.
• "that'd be nice... if i'm being honest. i just can't let them down." he mumbled, the stress from the journey showing in his face.
• "and look around zev. they're all drunk anyways. nobodies watching you tonight, so just relax."
• you were right. nobody was looking at either of them. most were drunk, and the ones that weren't were chatting away with halsin. it didn't take long for a small smile to creep up to his mouth. zevlor took the cup from her, and took a drink out of it. he mirrored her nose scrunch. wow. it really was cheap wine.
• with a fleeting moment of confidence, /or alcohol/ zevlor pulled you into a hug. at first, you didn't hug back. you were shocked. you hadn't had a hug in... what? weeks? months? years? and clearly, he hadn't either. you both seemed to really have needed it, too, because you instantly melted into his arms, and his grip only tightened. you could hear his heart thumping against his chest. yours was equally loud.
• "you've done great by them. i know you'll keep them safe. but in the meantime, you need to take care of yourself too."
• zevlor laughed against your hair, your encouraging words enough to make the old paladin's eyes water. he hadn't heard words as soft as yours in a very, very long time. and it was enough to keep him going.
• he wiped the forming tears quickly away with his sleeve, not wanting to burden you any further with his emotions.
• from then on, zevlor is very comfortable hugging you. whenever he sees you, whether it's in the mind flayer colony, in baldur's gate, or anywhere else, be prepared for a very bone crushing hug. when he feels fancy, he'll even spin you a little.
• all of his touch is very polite and romantic. you both deserve and need it.

Based loosely on Being Human
What do you get when you get an anxious Werewolf, a repenting Vampire, and a naive Ghost in a house together?
A semidisfunctional family!
Tumblr media
Barrett was the first. Around 100-ish years ago, he was a great Echidna Warrior of his Tribe, who protected a powerful mystical artifact. During the tail end of a War against another Tribe, he ran into Clutch and his flock of Werebeast hunters. They were passing by, picking off stragglers from the War when they met. Despite being outnumbered, Barrett fought back as he saw one of them drain one of his fellow Tribesmen dry. Clutch took him up on his declaration and though the fight was a bit sided, Clutch liked his ferocity. So when Barrett lay on the ground defeated he gave him a proposal, join him and his flock or they would kill him and destroy his Tribe. Under the threat, Barrett had no choice but to accept and let Clutch turn him, eventually giving him the nickname of 'Knuckles' for the Sliver Knucks he would soon wield.
He tried to hold onto his Warrior spirit, but it wasn't long before he became like them, bloodthirsty and ruthless till he met a witch, another Echidna named Tikal, who brought back some of his morality and honor, as feelings came back to a heart he thought long since dead.
But it wasn't long before they were found out and Clutch killed Tikal for her blood. When he found out, Barrett started on his path of redemption. He ran far from his Sire and his group, feasting on the blood of animals instead of Mobians to sate his Thirst.
Eventually, he got a job and began to set his roots down in the small town of Emerald Valley, once he found out that a close friend of his, Rouge was the 'Head' of the Town. He found a house in the suburbs, hoping to try and regain normalcy...until he found out he wasn't alone...
A ghost, a two-tailed fox by the name of Miles, or Tails, haunted the house. He didn't know how long he had been dead or how he died. In fact, he didn't even know he was dead until Barrett explained what Miles was now and what he was.
It wasn't long before a friendship formed between Barrett and Miles.
One day, when a curious Tails tagged along with Barrett to see how he hunted, they stumbled across Nicholas, a newly bitten Werebeast, just waking up after a rough Moon. It wasn't long before he noticed them and quickly ran before anyone could say a word. Barrett was prepared to go in the other direction but Miles decided to follow after the strange Werebeast despite Barrett calling after him.
Miles soon finds Nicholas' campsite where he quickly packs up his stuff because if there's one Vampire, there's more nearby and he had already had a very bad experience with them. Miles was quick to explain how Barrett is different but Nicholas is skeptical.
It takes a lot of convincing from Miles to get Barrett on board with inviting Nicholas to live with them and it takes a lot of convincing from both of them to get Nicholas to accept their invitation, stating that he deserves to live and feel normal just as much as the two of them. Nicholas soon gets a job where Barrett works and the three of them just try to Be Mobian.
...
Yeah, this is my new fixation now. I'm so sorry to those who were looking at Growing Pain. It'll still come... in time but for now, you guys get this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry for the Watermarks, you can never be too safe nowadays.
Trust me when I say it's worth it. Those in the THOAM server have seen the drawings and even short stories I've written for this and you guys will too!
Will there be an Ao3 fic of this? Yes, there will be! It'll take a while for me to start it due to IRL stuff but it'll be done. I'll even start by putting up the two short stories I have now. Mostly of Nic but I do want to do shorts of Barrett and Miles eventually.
This even comes with a relationship chart for your viewing pleasure!
Tumblr media
It'll be filled out with pictures in time and will be updated along with the Fic!
Know that this is still kinda? in the works? so don't be surprised by any changes.
My ask box is always open for asks about my characters or AUs!

***
Everyone could see the tragedy and strife of Joel’s past and present deep in the lines of his wrinkles, and the fight he’d put up to make it to a place where he could know anything even resembling peace was apparent on the rough skin of his knuckles that seemed to rest in fists. After twenty years, and experiencing the unimaginable in the most literal sense, the last place Joel would’ve thought he’d end up in was Jackson. With a little girl on his tail that he was still trying to figure out what to do with- in the most affectionate of ways.
It took him a while to settle, though, to stop grimacing at everyone that crossed his path and holding onto his pocketknife that he kept in his front pocket when anyone got too close to Ellie or himself. He was quiet, reserved, remaining in the tiny house Tommy and Maria set him up in until it was time to go on patrol- a past time he quite looked forward to, but would never admit. He liked having the balance, knowing that he could go out and do something without it being for his survival, knowing that he was needed and helpful, and then being able to go back into the tall walls and lay in a warm bed where he could sleep without jeans.
Which is why the surprise that rippled through the community when you were seen leaving the dining hall with Joel was easy to imagine. You were young when the outbreak happened, not young enough that you couldn’t remember, but young enough to not have lost as much as Joel did. You didn’t have so much life under your belt just yet, given that it was just you and your mother, she was able to get you two to protection rather quickly. After she passed just a few years ago, you were out on your own, but luckily enough stumbled upon Jackson.
You can remember the first day that you met Ellie and Joel. You were settled in Jackson for a good while before you saw Joel Miller, word got around that he was Tommy’s brother, and you immediately felt a sense of trust being that Tommy and Maria took you under their wings and still kept you close. It was Ellie that came out of that little home first, who bumped into you while she was chasing a group of kids a little younger than her.
“Oh!” You gasped, a bundle of tomatoes tumbling from the woven basket and onto the dirt ground.
“Oh, shit!” Ellie said at the same time, and your eyes widened slightly at the language, but you couldn’t help but chuckle. “Shit, sorry. I mean, sorry.”
“It’s okay.” You said quietly, grabbing as many of the tomatoes as you could. Ellie was a little clumsy, dropping more than she could pick up.
“Ellie!”
The demanding tone of the voice was enough to make you pause in your movements, too, looking at the approaching figure in a thick pair of jeans and blue button up, similar to your denim jeans that were so worn they’d become soft, paired with a flannel over a white tank top.
Joel approached the both of you quickly, and Ellie rolled her eyes before standing up, dropping a few of the fruits back into the basket. “Chill out, Joel!”
“What are you doin’?” He stood a foot or so away with his hands on hips and you struggled to keep your eyes off him. “Shit, ‘m sorry about Ellie.”
“Who said I did anything?!” Joel looked to you silently, and you shrugged your shoulders towards Ellie who kicked at the ground and muttered, “I apologized.”
“She did.” You stood up to face Joel and realized that he was a lot bigger than you thought he was. Closer to him, the white hairs that littered his beard and hair were a lot more obvious, and somehow made him more handsome. “And it’s okay, I was carrying way too many to begin with.”
“Alright, let me help you. You’re takin’ ‘em to the dining hall, right?”
“You don’t have to help me… Joel.” You were hesitant to say his name, but Joel didn’t show any sign of uncertainty when he bent down to pick up your basket, turning around and starting the trek to the dining hall.
From that point forward, the three of you were your own little group. Ellie would often skip her classes to come help in the garden, and when Joel wasn’t patrolling, he’d conveniently just be passing by the garden and ask if you’d need help with anything imaginable. Over the past few months, he’d become your best friend, your closest confidante, but he also wasn’t the most emotionally intelligent person out there. It was easy for you to tell Joel about your frustrations, and he’d nod and try to offer some words of sage advice, that would ultimately be met with an eye roll, but it always pained him to see you so upset- especially when it was out of anyone’s control.
Joel knew you’d been upset over a few pests in the garden that were slowly ruining a small portion of the crop. It wasn’t quite anything to panic over, but it still tacked on a lot more stress to your daily load, and it was significantly dampering your mood.
“Hey.” Joel said behind the white picket fence and you turned to face him, standing up and brushing your hands on the knees of your overalls.
“Hi, Joel. You alright?”
He nodded as he opened the fence and walked through. You frowned when you noticed how tired he was, and you were ready to invite him for a break, but Joel seemed hellbent on making his way into the garden with the heavy tote in hand.
“I’m fine.” He grunted, and you smiled tiredly at him. “Hey, did you ever figure out what’s eating at your plants?”
Joel always called anything that came from the garden yours, as if you were tending to each plant for your own gain, and not having it hauled away to the dining hall. You shrugged, and kicked at the ground, pretending that there wasn’t a mound of no-good kale in the corner of the garden.
You’d been too freaked out to tell Maria, worried that she might kick you out of Jackson or something worse, and Joel was the first and only person to hear of any of those concerns. The look on your face and the wild look of worry in your eyes scared him at first when you nearly ran into him when you got to his house. It had only been a couple of days now, but you were still plagued.
“No. I- I mean, I know what it is. They’re just little pests that have found their way in- I don’t know how. I-”
Joel couldn’t stand to watch you wring your hands for another moment before he finally took the tote from his shoulder to set it on the ground and pulled out a plastic red canister. You looked down at the little thing, and back up at Joel.
“It’s- It’s pesticide. I got it on patrol today. It shouldn’t be too harmful to the plants, but it is old, so I’d be careful with it. Also, not much.” You bent down slightly to pick it up, and look at the words across the label, before beaming at Joel in shock.
“Oh, my goodness, Joel!” You squealed, bouncing on your toes a little before giggling. “Oh, thank you!”
“You’re welcome.”
Every part of you dissipated except for your heart and eyes on Joel. You let your hands, your body, your mind take over you, and you cupped Joel’s cheeks, feeling chills strike you as the hair on his chin pricked your fingers.
Before Joel could speak or react, his own hands met your waist as you kissed him. You and Joel had never touched ever besides the light guiding hand to your lower back. This was different. It was electric, it was months and months of wanting for the both of you. When you finally came to your senses at the feeling of Joel’s fingers digging deeper into your flesh, you tried to pull away for a breath, but he only deepened the kiss.
When you two finally pulled apart only a second or so later, it was like seeing you took away all of Joel’s passion, and you never wanted to feel the way you felt under his gaze in that moment ever again. You never wanted to feel his hands leaving your body and running across his face as he cursed under his breath.
“Joel, I’m sorry.” You whispered, pulling your lip between your teeth. “I wasn’t thinking straight, and-”
“I’ve gotta go.” He licked his lips as he turned around, and you clasped your fingers together.
“Joel-”
“It’s not your fault.” He said over his shoulder, his eyes avoiding the canister and your face.
You stood in the garden feeling more confused than ever. You aggressively wiped at the tears that sat at your waterline, kicking at the canister. You hated yourself, hated yourself for thinking that Joel could ever feel the fire you felt when you were around each other, when he would look at you with a tired smile after you laughed at one of Ellie’s lame jokes, or when he would sit out on his porch with you after the both of you had a long day.
You shouldn’t have been surprised, you thought, in a world where you could never have anything you truly wanted, you certainly would never have Joel.
Joel wasn’t sure what it was about you, but something about you reminded him of his past the same way that Ellie did. As bittersweet as it was, he couldn’t help but imagine that maybe, just maybe, if the outbreak had never happened, you two would’ve still found a way to be together. Maybe you’d be running a florist shop, and he’d run into you on his way to some contracting gig with Tommy. Or at least that’s how he liked to imagine it.
Ever since that evening, Joel wasn’t himself. Or at least, the version that everyone had grown used to. He was still grumpy, and grunted more than he spoke, but he wasn’t letting bullshit slide as much as usual. When he had to go on patrol, he was focused on the mission, getting there and back. He didn’t make conversation as usual, or slow down to look at anything that seemed interesting. At dinner, he ate alone, only keeping a close eye on Ellie as she schemed with the other kids her age, As much as he would always counter against, it always found its way to you, watching as you always angled your body away from him and talked to the other members of the community.
It felt like a never-ending game, and for some reason, neither of you were ready to throw in the towel.
“This is stupid.” Ellie finally gave in, grabbing Joel’s hand on their way home.
“Ellie, what are you doing?”
“You’re going to talk to Y/N!”
Joel stopped short, snatching his hand from Ellie’s grip. “Stop it, Ellie.”
“What happened between you two? You love her.”
Joel bristled at the accusation, frowning deeply in his thick jacket as he rolled his eyes. “You don’t know shit about this.”
“I don’t-” Ellie turned to face him and scoffed before blinking exaggeratedly. “Look, you were literally the only human I had contact with for, I don’t want to know how long, so I know you, Joel. I can tell that you like her.”
“I get along with her.” Joel admitted, doing his best to get out of the conversation. “I just… I don’t want her getting attached. This world is too unpredictable, and she doesn’t get that. I can’t give her all this time and attention when I know it won’t last. I know you’re too young to get what I’m sayin’, but I can’t do it, Ellie. I won’t do this to her.”
Joel was forming a nasty habit of turning his back before he could realize he was doing it. He knew this wasn’t one of those things that Ellie would badger about, it was an argument about fish or ravioli for dinner, this was about something that mattered to her, too.
Joel was alone for a few hours before he got a knock at the door. It was closer to dawn than dusk now, and he was about to give up on waiting for Ellie. He stood up from the creaking reclining chair, rubbing the crook in his neck to get ready to scold the girl for running rowdy in the quiet community, but he was greeted with a surprise.
You stood before him in a large sweater, worn and faded, with a pair of tights on your legs. You looked tired and confused, as if you weren’t sure what bought you here. Joel didn’t greet you as he usually would, with a smile and short nod before sliding out of the way to let you in. Instead, you received eyebrows raised in surprise and his large frame blocking the light behind him.
“Ellie told me that you wanted to see me. She was with those girls she’s usually with.”
“Oh, I-” You cut him off quickly, wringing your hands nervously.
“We don’t have to talk about it. I get that you’re mad at me, and you probably never want to look at me again, so if you were calling me over to tell me that, then I appreciate your honesty. I’ll leave now.”
Joel couldn’t take that glimmering look in your eye and the way it seemed like you could hardly stand to look at him.
“Come in.”
“Joel, really, you don’t have to be nice about it. It was my fault; I shouldn’t have made a move on you like that. I’m sorry.”
“Would you stop apologizing and come in, so I don’t have to kiss you out here?” Joel could practically see all the air in your body trade places with shock after he spoke, and he didn’t have to repeat himself to get you stepping into his warm home.
You didn’t say anything when he shut the door and walled you up against it with his body. He bent at the knees to make eye contact with you, and for the first time in a long time, he didn’t ache because of it.
His hands, large and rough, held your face and you were close enough for your noses to brush.
“Why are you scared of me, Joel?”
“Scared of hurtin’ you.” He whispered, his chest rising and falling with anticipation. “I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I did.”
“You couldn’t hurt me if you tried.”
“I already did, but I’m gonna spend a long time making up for it.”
A smile graced your lips, and Joel couldn’t wait to kiss you. A giggle bounced between you, and it wasn’t clear who it belonged to. When you two broke apart, Joel almost couldn’t believe it. It’s been so long since he’d even touched another person like this, and he couldn’t believe that after so long, he was lucky enough to have you.
He wasn’t sure when you went from the door to the couch, but he did remember hearing the lock turn with you laying on top of him, your face in the crook of his neck with his hand on the small of your back. He lifted his head up slightly just in time to see Ellie walk through the door with a smile on her face.
“Did Y/N stop by?” she asked, and Joel hushed her quickly, earning a wide grin from Ellie. “I’m a fucking genius.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Joel laid back down, closing his eyes as Ellie dropped a thick quilt blanket over the two of you.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
I was tagged by the wonderful @thekristen999, @spotsandsocks, and @hippolotamus xx
How many works do you have on ao3? 49
What's your total ao3 word count?
156,649 which seems crazy omg
What fandoms do you write for?
Currently 9-1-1
Previously: Fairy Tail, Akagami no Shirayukihime, and some rpf for K-Pop bands
Top five fics by kudos:
Words Fall Short (Tongue Tied and Lonely) 15k words
Buck misoverhears Eddie complaining to Hen at work and presumes the worst. He slowly starts to phase himself out of Eddie's life and Eddie doesn't know why.
you are my boy, buckaroo 1.7k words
Buck is in the wrong place at the wrong time and Athena comes to the rescue.
Lazy Sunday (Lay With Me) 1.2k words
A quiet, cuddly Sunday morning between Buck and Eddie on the Diaz couch.
ring the bells 5.3k words - Buddie CoffeeShop AU
Buck starts frequenting a coffee shop near the firehouse in hopes of running into the beautiful man whose coffee he mistakenly drank.
Wine (Whine) 1.5k words
Buck makes plans without Eddie so Eddie goes to Karen for wine and a whine and then comes home to Buck.
Do you respond to comments? Yes! I try to! I usually reply to some the same day I post a fic and then go back and reply to the rest a few weeks later. But every comment is so important to me <3
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I am incapable of not writing happy endings haha but the angstiest content in a fic was probably in lightning crashes seeing as Buck literally died right in front of Eddie's eyes, more than once.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Crushes, Shivers and Bruised Knuckles has a super cute sappy ending <3
Do you get hate on fics?
Not often, I've had the odd snide comment but so far I've been pretty lucky.
Do you write smut? Nope. Just not my writing vibe.
Craziest crossover:
Haven't written any crossover fics yet but i've been dipping my toes into AUs a bit more recently.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Years ago yes sort of, I had a fic reposted to another website without my permission but still credited to me.
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, not yet.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not published, but the lovely @lilbuddie and I have played around with some ideas before.
All time favourite ship? Buddie, they have taken me over body and soul. Never has a ship inspired me to write so many fics.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have a few WIPs from other fandoms (not 911) that I abandoned a long time ago and now the source material has changed too much for the fics to make sense to finish which is sad cos some of them I was really excited about (RIP the Australian Adoption Adventure fic).
What are your writing strengths?
Descriptions, particularly of physical intamicy/tactile situations cos I'm hyper aware of where everyone's limbs are at all times. I think I'm pretty good at getting character's verbal tone right too.
What are your writing weaknesses? Other than finishing WIPs?? Long fics, honestly. I have so many ideas but find it really hard to plot out and execute long form fics.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? Character specific I think.
First fandom you wrote in? Fairy Tail
Favourite fic you've written? I have some new WIPs coming soon that I think will take the title but here's some current favs:
9-1-1:
Crushes, Shivers and Bruised Knuckles 9k words
Eddie starts kickboxing, goes to therapy and realizes he's in love with Buck.
lightning crashes 9.7k words
Eddie is thrown from the ladder truck during a lightning storm on a call but it is Buck who ends up in the hospital.
Not 9-1-1:
Hindsight (Through Rose Tinted Glasses) - Stray Kids (8.6k)
Hearts Beat (Louder Than Bombs) - NCT War AU (25k ongoing)
Tagging a few lovely mutuals who might like to share:
@loserdiaz @shortsighted-owl @sibylsleaves @monsterrae1 @spaceprincessem @elvensorceress @bekkachaos and anyone else who wants to tag me in their version of this! I love hear about people's writing xx

the sonic franchise has a misogyny problem
hello everyone, are you ready for another long essay by me? because i sure am. this has been on my mind for a while now. i've already talked about how the sonic fandom tends to treat the female characters worse than the male characters. but what about the franchise? do they treat the female characters better? well, in this essay i'm gonna talk about the misogynistic aspects of the sonic franchise. i'm not just gonna focus on the games, but also on other adaptations. so sit back, and lets have a long talk.
Tumblr media
(art by evan stanley)
the lack of recurring female characters
quick question, how many recurring female characters can you name off the top of your head? no, the non game characters don't count, and no, the ones who only appeared in one game and then disappeared don't count. i can only name four recurring female characters - amy, blaze, rouge, and cream. maybe vanilla too. compare that to the amount of recurring male characters - we have sonic, tails, knuckles, shadow, silver, the chaotix, eggman. yeah you can see the problem. and these four characters aren't even utilized that well as of late. blaze especially has so much potential. she lives in another dimension for christ's sake. but sega just doesn't do anything with her. she deserves her own game to explore her dimension. like, there's so much potential with these characters but they just don't do much with them.
the way they treat their lead female character
amy rose is the main female character of the sonic franchise. i've already written an entire essay on how she's treated so i'm gonna try and keep this short. the way sega used to treat their main female character is appalling. she already got enough hate from the fandom, and sega just didn't make it better. just look at how the social media team used to treat her
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i have never seen any sonic characters get this much jabs from the social media team as her. heck, i've never seen a lead female videogame character get treated as badly as amy. and the way they purposely go to exclude her? just look at what happened with mania. it was supposed to be a celebration of all things classic sonic but they didn't have her there even though she was a classic character. instead they brought two characters from an obscure arcade game. which... yeah its nice to see obscure characters get the chance to shine but you don't have to exclude a main character for that. and even in origins, though she's in the marketing and cutscenes, she's not playable. why? and before you say "oh its because she wasn't playable before", tails and knuckles weren't playable in sonic 1 either yet they were able to be included there. so what's wrong with making amy playable? what else am i supposed to call the purposeful exclusion of the classic era's only female character other than misogyny? seriously, i've never seen any other franchise do this to their lead female character. even PRINCESS PEACH gets treated better. peach got her own damn game. what's sega's excuse? if they treat their lead female like this, what does it say about how they treat their other female characters?
and one last thing. i've already touched on this before but it makes me angry so i'm gonna rant on it again. the way sega seems to think amy's role in sa2 in reminding shadow of his true promise to maria is replaceable. and every time she's been replaced, its a male character who took her place (chris in x, implied to be sonic in archie). and honestly, i don't have high hopes that they'll let her keep that role in the movie either. i don't even have high hopes that she'll appear in the movie. forgive me for being a negative nancy but i've been disappointed too many times.
archie's treatment of its female characters
lets talk about archie now. pre reboot archie sonic, especially before flynn came around, was an embarrassment to the franchise for many reasons. but what i don't see many people talking about is how they treated their female characters.
lets start with sally, since she's the comic's lead female. those who know her from satam know her as the leader of the freedom fighters, a strategic genius, a no nonsense princess who is determined in her goals. but in archie, especially when penders came along, her agency was taken away. once king max was rescued, penders didn't know what to do with sally. so she had little personality besides being a princess. and need i mention how he tried to kill off sally in the most anticlimatic way? she spent most of the time after the endgame arc being stuck in the castle, not joining sonic and co on battles like she used to. and need i mention the utterly disgusting aspect that is her """"""relationship""""" with geoffrey? there is one issue i particularly remember when geoffrey kissed sally without her consent and sonic saw it from afar. what does he do? does he confront geoffrey about it? does he protect sally? nope, he just thinks that sally is trying to make him jealous. what the fuck?! she's legit being sexually harassed and you're just going to blame her for it? i know this was the 90s but STILL. and to make matters worse, sally is 16 while geoffrey is in his 20s.
and let me talk about how characters are introduced solely to be a love interest. like mina mongoose. i've got nothing against her but lets face it, she was introduced solely to create drama in sonic and sally's relationship. and they even gave her super speed just so she could have something sally didn't, so she could be a "competition" to sally. they didn't even do anything with it later. and flynn has it retconned so that mammoth mogul was the one that gave her that power.
and speaking of which..... ig every female character has taken interest in sonic at one point. we have sally, amy, mina, fiona, bunnie.... it seemed like they wanted sonic to have as many love interests as possible. i mean just look at this cover
Tumblr media
and if they weren't into sonic, they were into any other boy. mostly knuckles. and speaking of which, lets talk about julie-su. she's supposed to be this strong woman type character but penders made her whole personality being knuckles' gf. she occassionally showed her "girl power" when she was sticking it to vector (who was turned into a misogynistic asshole to make julie look good. granted this was before heroes gave him a personality but after that you'd think they'd change up vector's character). flynn and occassionally bollers tried to make her interesting but she just didn't do it for me imo. and lara-su, knuckles' daughter who was supposed to be the main character of the "mobius: 25 years later" arc, got sidelined in her own arc. she doesn't have much of a personality there other than wanting to be the next guardian.
now when flynn came along the treatment of the female characters got better. and even more so after the reboot. but i feel like this is something we should talk about.
"only male hedgehogs can go super"
this is, without a doubt, the stupidest mandate ever. i get it, going super is something not everyone can do and if that was the case, the super form would lose its specialness. but why specify only male hedgehogs? the "hedgehogs" part is already stupid enough because tails and knuckles have gone super before, but why the "male" part? why specify that? seriously, give me one good reason why only make hedgehogs should be able to go super. i can't think of any reason this mandate exists besides sexism.
female characters being less utilized than male characters
this kind of ties in to the first point, but the female characters are generally less explored than the male characters. we have few recurring female characters and sega doesn't even utilize them that much. again, blaze has so much potential. there's so much about her to be explored, but sega just..... doesn't do that. we don't even see her much in the games anymore.
and lately, cream is also being excluded from the games. the last mainline game she appeared in was generations. and tell me, what was the reason for cream to be replaced by the chao in team sonic racing? this is amy's little sister figure, and you're just gonna replace her without giving an explanation as to where she is? at least with espio and charmy, they had a reason to not be with vector here. but with cream, there's no reason she's not here.
the female characters have so much potential. they have interesting aspects to them, dare i say it, some of them are even more interesting than the male characters. but sega just doesn't see that.
that's all for my rant. in short, sega has a history of mistreating or underutilizing their female characters as compared to their male characters. though its getting a bit better, they still have a long way to go.

JUST FINISHED EPISODE 6!!! Before I unblock the Knuckles Series tags, I wanted to give my closing thoughts.
Overall, I really REALLY enjoyed this! :D I laughed a lot, the tension was good, the animation and choreography was incredible, and everything was just all around amazing. I wish we got to cut back to Green Hills every now and then though. Getting a little side plot with Sonic and Tails would have been cute and very nice. But I really enjoyed Wade and Knuckles' dynamic, though I think Knuckles should have had a bit more development and screen time.
One thing I absolutely ADORED was the theme song, along with the constant theme of older music scattered throughout the series. I gasped out loud when I saw Wade's discman. (My sister still has one!) I grew up listening to CDs. When it was time for a roadtrip, my family would grab one of our big CD cases for the car ride. So looking at that theme song animation made my heart absolutely soar. ❤️ And while I didn't recognize any of the songs they played in the episodes (save for a couple), I can really appreciate the vibe. I also grew up listening to my dad's music. Stuff from when HE was growing up. It just felt right to have Wade into all kinds of music.
I have only a few complaints. First: Wanda was kinda really, really annoying. She got better as time went on, but she was really bad at first. She felt like a kid who never grew up. Like seriously, why is she still picking fights with Wade??? You're both adults! Act like it! The whole dinner scene over all was just painful to watch. It felt waaaay too similar to some dinners I've had with my own family, which yes, points for accuracy I guess, but I just felt like Knuckles the entire time. Awkward, wishing they'd just quit arguing and enjoy dinner, feeling out of place. I'm not sure if that's what they were going for or not. (The fight scene to protect the candles was very nice though :D)
Second: Pachacamac. I dunno, he was really annoying, and not at all like his power hungry, war mongering, cold, game counterpart. I also feel like he was really unnecessary? He probably could've been written out really easily. His 'funny' bits weren't even that funny and there was so many other opportunities for comedy during the episodes. He was really unneeded.
Finally: Almost everything in episode 4. The . . . low quality rock opera thing???? I'll admit, that the way they did all the practical effects and stuff was really cool! But everything else? WHY. Why are we doing this? Why are we singing? Why are we cutting Knuckles out of almost an entire episode? Why?????? I feel like this episode could've been done so many other different ways. HOWEVER! I really enjoyed the bit at the end. Seeing Wade stand up to Sinclair was AMAZING and I was cheering him on the whole time.
I kinda also wish they'd hinted at the third movie a bit. For a bit of set up. But they did clear up that GUN didn't always go by GUN, which I guess fixes our 'how did GUN kill Maria if they were only created after the first movie' problem!
Anyway, save for a few rough patches, this is a really good show! (Probably would've been better with one episode per week though. Can you imagine the suspense factor?? Would've been EPIC!!)

Do you have careers headcanons for Sonic's characters? (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Shadow and Rouge) based on their interests and personalities what would they more likely choose?
Oo! Never have I been asked this before!
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Sonic: I don't think he'll ever get a 'real' job. It's really just... not his style, not who he is. Sonic has the speed and charisma to just continue being a rambler, and I think that is what he would prefer. Maybe he does odd favors for food and shelter, maybe he just crashes on friend's couches. Whatever it is, I think he's going to continue to live life fairly free and out there. Besides, even if/when Eggman ceases to be a threat, you still have other global forces like G.U.N. who will need to no doubt be kept in check.
(The few consistent places he can be found would be on Angel Island, Tail's couch, and Apotos.)
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Tails: I love the idea of Tails being an inventor and working with local communities in order to have sustainable accruement of resources, clean production, and fair wages/working conditions. I can't see him just being tied to a lab, but I also can't see him just entirely handing off whatever he's doing to a government or military. He'd probably hire an assistant to do a lot of the business of it, but Tails is particular enough to mandate his reading over and signing off on everything.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Knuckles: Guardian of the Master Emerald. He'll never fully separate himself from Angel Island. However, with some help from Tails, I think Knuckles would enjoy taking lengths to protect and secure the legacy of the Echidna. Perhaps he works with professors on archeological digs, perhaps he helps to translate and transcribe texts, but he would absolutely be involved in the preservation and education of his heritage. Knuckles may even work with a bat, a robot, and a hedgehog or two in order to steal some priceless historical artifacts back from some illegal collections.
(You may see where this is going. Yes it links back to that hypothetical game post XD)
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Amy Rose: So I've actually worked this one out and written about it a bit in my own writing XD. I know her big thing right now is she wants to own or work in a bakery, but I can also see her getting REALLY overwhelmed both by the business of it and the unfortunate way customers treat people. It would start to turn a passion of hers into a stressor, and so while I believe she would do that for a time, she'd ultimately leave it. After that, I think she'd work for an environmental group (in my writing, I named it the PINE- the Preservation of Imperiled Natural Environments XD). She works to restore cultural and natural sites from damages caused by both natural and man-made catastrophes. There would be opportunities to help the world, spread love, and travel, but also, she would have a home and friends to return to, which is equally important for her. (I came up with this idea BEFORE Frontiers, and I am so glad it seems to work even more than before that new addition to canon XD).
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Cream: I think the girl would run a farm. Like, Vanilla gives off the vibe of someone who saw some shit, went, 'nope' and made a small self-sufficient farm in the woods. Very self-reliant and self-collected. No doubt Cream would then inherit such a property and enjoy the perks of that lifestyle. Sure, she'll drive to a city, or she'll go on adventures. She's not AS much of a home-body as Vanilla. Still, at the end of the day, you'll find Creme up to her elbows and knees in mud surrounded by vegetables and fruit trees, very, very content. I do like to think she would also utilize part of the grounds and her own know-how as an unofficial/unlicensed Chao rescue, but that's extra.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Shadow: I think they leave GUN. They'd stick with Team Dark, they'd continue helping out with Sonic and Co., but they deserve to have privacy and autonomy. That's not something they could get while working for GUN no matter what Towers or anyone else may promise. Beyond that, for an actual paycheck, I think they'd work at Club Rouge as a bouncer/security until Rouge closes down the club to be an art detective at which point in time they'd run a garden center while helping out with Cream and her chao rescue on the side. They need a break- something calm and enjoyable while still making ends meet. This would be that option for them.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Rouge: to get Team Dark out of their contracts with GUN, she has to blackmail GUN. They're not happy with that, but with how much dirt she has on them, it works. She gets herself, Shadow, and Omega out of there. However, Club Rouge, which she had run for years in order to make ends meet, comes under fire by the city council, and she's pretty sure GUN is behind it. Not wanting to take any risks, she ends up shutting the club down and taking up and offer Knuckles set up for her; she ends up getting a job as an art and artifacts detective and hunts down echidna treasures. It's a good opportunity for her- very on the up and up with all the paperwork to prove it, she gets to dust off her old tricks and talents, and she gets an academic discount. Plus, she gets to still have fun with Shadow and Omega. What's not to like?
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Thanks so much for asking this question! I absolutely loved it! What about you? What do you think they'd do?

STH — Beyond Oblivion, ch.1
Notes: Six days ago I made this post, wherein I talked about being inspired by @chaoxfix's works (specifically "build away and away and away", which is fantastic and you all should read it) to think of a world where Sonic didn't exist, and so Eggman raised Tails instead. I couldn't stop thinking of the idea, and so here we are, the first proper fic I've written in a while. Thank you, Chaofix, for the inspiration; it feels nice to really write something after so long.
This is still rough; I'll probably clean it up later before putting it on AO3. But until then, here's chapter one. Fic title comes from this song from the Neo: TWEWY soundtrack.
Summary: After an accident with what is believed to be a fragment of the Phantom Ruby, Sonic is catapulted into a world where he never existed, leaving Tails to be raised by the one person who should never be put in charge of children.
— — —
“Wow. That’s the biggest chunk of ugly red rock we’ve found yet. Think it’s real?”
“Not sure. I’m scanning its composite signature now so we can compare it to that of the real ruby. We should know in a few minutes.”
“Gotcha. Thanks, li’l bro.”
“No prob—hey, did you see something move over there?”
“Huh? Where?”
“On the other side of the—isn’t that Shadow’s chao?”
“Shadow’s chao? What’s that doing her—hey, stop!”
“Is it trying to take the ruby?!”
“Not if I have anything to say about—”
“Sonic, don’t—!”
Sonic’s eyes shot open.
Above him was a dismal grey sky thick with clouds, a stark contrast from the clear blue of before. Under his back was dying, yellowed grass, scratchy against his quills and so different from the sweeping green plains he and Tails had found the Phantom Ruby chunk in moments before. When he closed his eyes, Sonic could see the chunk of ruby glistening in the dirt, the tiny black paws of Shadow’s chao reaching for it. Sonic could see his own hand reaching out, pushing the chao back . . . and his knuckles swiping across the gleaming, glowing stone.
Sonic snorted as he opened his eyes again.
Well, that answered the question of whether the ruby chunk was real or not.
He sat up, and rolled his shoulders to work the stiffness out of them. It felt like only a second had passed, but the throbbing through his body suggested otherwise. There wasn’t much around him; a parched plain stretched for miles in any direction he could see, barren trees dotting the landscape here or there and what looked like a rocky mountain range in the distance. It was . . . wrong. Sonic didn’t know where he was, but he knew that it was wrong. The grass, the trees—they shouldn’t look like this. And the wind, growing stronger by the second, stank of exhaust even though there weren’t any cities around for—
Sonic jolted to his feet as a foghorn blared, setting his every quill on edge. For a half second, he had no idea where it came from; but as the rank aware gusted around him in a cyclone, he finally turned his eyes back up to the dismal sky, and felt both recognition and revulsion at once.
“Huh,” Sonic muttered. “Didn’t realize he put it back in commission.”
Eggman’s airship—the Flying Battery.
A gargantuan mass of steel and gunpowder, the Flying Battery was, at one time, the military flagship of Eggman’s would-be empire. Boasting more cannons than badniks, the Flying Battery was meant to rain unrelenting missile fire onto the world below, and smog into the sky above. Not that it had much of a chance, of course; Sonic had wasted no time (but had plenty of fun) ripping it apart from the inside out before he sent it careening to a fiery demise.
Yet here it was again, leisurely wading through the clouds as it trailed smog and—Sonic realized, the ground pulsing beneath his feet—bad music behind it. Because the throbbing he had felt before wasn’t coming from inside him, but from inside the ship above his head; a pulsing beat radiating over the empty plain.
Sonic frowned, and tapped his foot.
He didn’t know where he was. He was only vaguely sure of how he got there. And one look his wrist communicator, which flashed a dead signal message back at him, told him he wasn’t going to be able to call Tails for a lift back home any time soon. But no matter where he was, there was never a bad time to bring down a megalomaniac’s prized warship.
Sonic grinned, and sped off after it.
- - -
Hitching a ride on the Flying Battery was as easy as it ever was, if a bit slow for his tastes. All he had to do was wait for it to pass by the mountain peak where he waited, and then take a flying leap. Easy as pie, none of the security sensors so much as twitched a cannon in his direction.
If he was honest with himself, Sonic would say he was a little disappointed.
The Flying Battery was much as it had been before, albeit with a few more clucks guarding the corridors than he remembered. The curious thing Sonic noticed as he smashed each and every one to bits was that not a single one had an animal powering it. As yet another technosqueak broke apart against the wall, not a single flicky or ricky scampered out. And they weren’t concussed, either, as sometimes happen when a bot bash was particularly rough; Sonic took care to pick through the pieces of broken machinery, and found not a strand of fur or loose feather for his efforts.
Weird. But not unwelcome.
The badniks were sparse, anyway. It was how it had been in the past, too; the Flying Battery boasted traps and cannons, with badniks being put to use as shock troops and foot soldiers down on solid ground. It was for this reason that Sonic was able to make his way to the engine room pretty quickly, even for him, leaving a trail of smashed cannons and broken badniks in his wake. He roughly remembered where it was from the last time he was on the ship, but even if he hadn’t, it wasn’t hard to find; the thumping bass audible from the earth below only got louder the deeper into the ship he went, and outside the engine room door it was so powerful it rattled his ribcage from the inside out.
Sonic grimaced. His ears were going to hate him for this later.
The second the door to the engine room slid open, the pounding bass transformed into blaring EDM. On instinct to protect his hearing, Sonic clapped his hands over his ears and scanned the room. The engine room didn’t look much different from how he remembered it. The engine itself was situated dead center, taking up most of the available space, and the music was blasting from a speaker in the upper right corner of the room. But as much as his first instinct was to throw a couple quills through the center of the speaker to shut the noise off, what caught his attention in a lightning-fast vice grip wasn’t the music at all, but instead the fluffy orange fox tails poking out from behind the engine.
Sonic slowly lowered his hands from his ears. “Tails? Is that you?”
The tails—Tails’ tails—twitched, but otherwise there was no movement from behind the engine. Before Sonic could call out to him again, though, the music’s volume jumped up another few decibels. Sonic’s eyes widened, his jaw dropped a little in indignation.
Did Tails seriously just turn up the music to drown him out?
Sonic scanned the room, but there was nothing immediately available that suggested a control for the speaker. That being the case, he settled for the next best thing; in two bounds he cleared the room and up the wall, and with one solid yank he pulled the cords connecting the speaker to the wall loose. The music cut out instantly with nothing but a sputtering crackle for its efforts, and in the newfound silence in the room (and ringing in his ears), Sonic heard metal clang to the floor behind the engine.
“Ugh, are you serious?” Tails—and that was definitely Tails, Sonic would recognize his voice anywhere—snapped. Sonic hopped back down to the floor as Tails, lying horizontal on a metal scooter, slid out from behind the engine. “I swear, there better be an emergency for you to—”
Tails’ voice died in his throat as he sat up and looked in Sonic’s direction, and Sonic didn’t need to see the eyes behind the welding goggles to recognize Tails’ shock. He grinned, and raised his hand in a wave. “Hey buddy.”
Tails said nothing. He moved his welding goggles up to the top of his head, and continued to stare at Sonic for a moment, his expression uncomprehending. Then, before Sonic could do or say anything to break Tails from his stupor, Tails frowned and bounded up off his scooter, circling Sonic with a look of intense concentration.
Sonic raised his eyebrows, bemused, as Tails poked one of his quills. “Uh, bud—”
“What are you?” Tails asked, and before Sonic had a chance to laugh at the ridiculousness of the question, he continued, “You’re definitely not a robot, or at least not one of the Doctor’s models. You don’t look like one of Dr Starline’s either, unless . . .” Tails, now standing in front of Sonic again, frowned as he met Sonic’s eyes. “Are you a cyborg? But no, that doesn’t make sense. There’s no way his experiments have progressed to the prototype stage yet, especially since I’m supposed to be—”
“Whoa, whoa, slow down.” Sonic held his hands up, and Tails, still frowning, took a step back. “I’m not a robot, and I’m definitely not a cyborg. I’m 100% pure hedgehog.” As Tails’ dubious frown deepened, Sonic patted his hand over his heart. “Tails, it’s me. Sonic. Don’t you recognize me?”
The moment the name Tails left Sonic’s mouth, Tails scowled, his hackles raising slightly over his teeth. “I’ve never seen you before in my life. And you’ve obviously never met me, otherwise you’d know my name is Miles.”
“Well, yeah, your first name is, but . . .” Sonic frowned as Tails turned back toward the engine. “Wait, what are you talking about, you’ve never seen me before? I’m your best friend.”
Tails scoffed. “I don’t have friends, much less a best one. You’re thinking of someone else.”
Sonic opened his mouth to point out how ridiculous that was, but closed it a second later. Now that he got a better look at Tails, something was definitely wrong (and that was an understatement considering Tails had been working on the engine of one of Eggman’s warships, but besides that). He was Tails, unmistakably, but with differences, like he was one of those “spot the differences” picture puzzles. His fur was orange, but grimier and matted in a few different places, such as clumps behind his knees and around his elbows. His eyes were blue, but the right one had a strange, glassy look to it, and caught the light oddly depending on how Tails tilted his head. More alarming was the chunk that was missing from the outer edge of his left ear, as though something had jammed straight through it and ripped a piece off. His gloves were black with red trim, and instead of sneakers he had donned a pair of work boots. Which, whatever, if he was working instead of running—but Sonic had never seen him wear boots like that once in his entire life. And considering Sonic himself had practically raised him, that was saying something. This was Tails, but it wasn’t Tails. Which meant—what? Had the Phantom Ruby sent him to another dimension? But couldn’t it only do that when used with the Chaos Emeralds? And it wasn’t even the whole ruby, so why—
Tails groaned, breaking Sonic from his thoughts, and rubbed his forehead between two fingers. “I have a headache. And what did you do to the speaker?” Before Sonic could answer, he looked up in its direction, scowling at the dangling wires. “Did you just rip them out?”
“Yup,” Sonic said, and popped his lips on the “p”. Tails turned his indignant stare on him; Sonic stared unrepentantly back. “And it’s a good thing I did, since the ear-shattering volume you had it on is probably why you have a headache.”
Tails rolled his eyes. “No, I just haven’t had a chance to eat today. And now that I have to fix the speaker on top of the modifications to the engine, I won’t be able to eat until even later. So thanks.”
“The speaker and the engine can wait. Food comes first, always.” Sonic put out a hand to stop Tails from making it to the toolkit open beside the engine, but Tails batted his hand away.
“Maybe wherever you come from, but not here.” Tails paused, and scrunched his nose as he looked back up at Sonic. “Where did you come form, anyway? How did you get up here? If you're not a robot or a cyborg, there’s no way you made it up here. Am I hallucinating?”
“Do I look like a hallucination?” Sonic asked, and before Tails could answer, he poked Tails’ cheek. Tails swatted his hand away again. “Nah, I just jumped on when you passed by those mountains down there. Easy-peasy.”
“‘Easy-peasy,’” Tails repeated flatly. Sonic nodded, grinning, and Tails shook his head as he knelt down beside his toolkit. “Well, go jump back down onto the mountain, or wherever else you can go that’s not here. I’m busy.”
“And leave you here? Yeah, no dice,” Sonic said. Because Tails might not have been his Tails, but there was no reality Sonic could think of where he’d just leave Tails by himself on an Eggman warship. “What are you doing here, anyway? And what happened to your ear?”
“I work here,” Tails said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. His left ear twitched when Sonic mentioned it, but he otherwise ignored the question as he pulled a pair of wire cutters out of his toolbox.
“For Eggman?” Sonic barked a laugh. “Come on, get real.”
Tails shot Sonic a weird look before he spun his tails to gain altitude, hovering up near the broken speaker. “Who’s Eggman?”
“Uh, the megalomaniac who owns this warship?” Sonic said, and when Tails gave him another strange look, spread his arms wide. “Big guy. Bald head. Orange mustache. Makes a lot of ugly robots and tries to take over the world with them.”
“Oh, you mean Dr Robotnik.” Tails used the wire cutters to clip away one of the broken cords of the speaker, and tossed it onto the floor. “Why’d you call him ‘Eggman’?”
“Beeecause that’s his name?”
“No it’s not.”
“Well, it is where I’m from.” Sonic crossed his arms and tapped his foot as Tails dropped another clipped wire to the floor. “But whatever, doesn’t matter. You can’t seriously be telling me you work for that guy.”
“I can and am, because I do. Have since I was like, four.” Tails scowled at the back of the speaker. “Could you have done a worse job on this? You tore part of the connector off halfway. This is going to be so annoying to fix.”
“That’s the least of my concerns right now,” Sonic said, as Tails dropped back down to the floor. He reached out a hand to steady Tails as Tails stumbled, but once more Tails ducked under his hand and made his way to the toolkit. “What do you mean, you’ve worked for him since you were four? Where was I?”
“I don’t know, where were you?” Tails quipped, as he dropped the wire cutters back into the box. Sonic fought the urge to roll his eyes, and channeled his energy into tapping his foot instead.
“Look, Tails—”
Tails whipped back around to look at him, gaze burning. “Miles.”
Sonic returned his stare in kind. “Look, Miles. I don’t know what’s going on here. Frankly, I’m not even from here and from the looks of things so far I don’t wanna be—”
“Then leave.”
“—but this whole situation?” Sonic gestured to Tails, and then the engine room at large. “Is messed up. And I’m not leaving here without you.”
“Then I guess you’re not leaving, because I’m stationed on the Flying Battery at least until it docks tonight, and probably even later if I don’t finish the engine modifications by then.” Tails dug a few black cables from among the loose parts in the bottom of the toolkit. “But you should know that Dr Robotnik is going to be waiting at the dock so he can check over my work, and if you’re here he’s not going to be happy since I’m the only sentient thing authorized to be on the ship right now. So it’d really be better for both of us if you got out now, or at least within the next hour.”
“‘Sentient thing?’ I think the word you’re looking for is ‘person,’” Sonic said, but Tails ignored him, still rummaging through the toolkit. “But sure, I’d be happy to leave. I finished just about everything I wanted to do before I came in here anyway. So once you’re ready to go, just say the word.”
“Everything you wanted to do?” Tails furrowed his brow, and then sat back on his haunches as he looked up at Sonic. “What do you mean? Why are you up here, anyway?”
“Oh, you know,” Sonic said vaguely, and he folded his arms behind his head as he grinned. “Seeing the sights, trashing the place. The usual.”
Tails snorted, and turned back to his toolkit. “Yeah, okay. Good joke.”
“I’m not joking,” Sonic said, and when Tails made another disbelieving sound in the back of his throat, added, “I smashed every cannon and badnik on the ship before I made my way back here. I went through every room. You can go see for yourself if you’d like.” And then, as soon as he was in the open air, Sonic would grab him and jump ship. Not that Tails needed to know that, of course.
“Yeah, sure. And then you can get a good laugh while I waste even more of my time looking at a perfectly in-tact warship.” Tails peered at another pair of cables before evidently deciding they weren’t good enough and dropping them back in the box. “No thanks.”
Sonic couldn’t help it; he laughed. “I’m not—”
“Look, I don’t know you. And I know you don’t know me.” Tails finally stood up from the toolkit and looked back at Sonic, who once again felt an uneasy swoop through his stomach at the odd way the light glinted off his right eye. It was almost as if it wasn’t— “But I’ve been a sysadmin of the Robotnik Empire since I was four, and chief mechanic for almost as long. I’d know if something was going wrong on this ship. I installed all the sensors and alarms myself.”
“Then you might want to double-check ‘em, because either they didn’t work or your music drowned them out,” Sonic said flatly, fighting against the bristle in his quills at Tails’ stated life story. “Because I’m telling you, I trashed the whole ship on my way here, and had a good time doing it, too.”
Tails rolled his eyes. “You’re lying—”
“I’m not,” Sonic interrupted. “I would never lie to you.”
Tails watched him for a second before he sighed, and shook his head. “Okay,” he said, and gestured for Sonic to follow him as he looped around the front of the engine. “Come here, then.”
Sonic followed, and watched as Tails brushed his fingers along the metal countertop jutting out of the left wall. Instantly, the steel paneling in the wall flared to life, revealing itself to not be paneling at all, but a wall of computer monitors, ten in total. The countertop gleamed with a luminescent keyboard, across which Tails’ fingers skipped as he entered in a username and password.
“This is the central processing mainframe of the entire ship. All of its artillery, security systems, and defenses are controlled through here,” Tails explained. He didn’t once look back at Sonic as he did so. “And if something happened to damage any component of the ship, not only would I be able to see it from here, but alarm would have . . . been . . . trigg . . .”
All ten monitors connected to a different security camera around the Flying Battery, and while each one focused on a different area of the ship, each one showed a similar level of carnage. Pieces of badniks were strewn across the corridors. Cannons smoked feebly where they had been destroyed. Lights were shattered and dangling from the ceiling by half-torn cords.
“This . . . this can’t . . .” Tails switched the feed on a few of them, tapping into different cameras around the ship. More than one of them returned nothing but static to their feed. Sonic examined his fingernails.
“Told ya,” he said, as Tails frantically opened another program on the computer. “I’m very thorough.”
“I didn’t hear it,” Tails whispered, staring in horror at the list of ignored warnings and alerts his security program now displayed. “The security system did go off, it did alert me, but I . . . I didn’t hear it, I didn’t notice.”
“See, that’s what happens when you play your music too loud.” Sonic tsked his tongue. “I’ve told you before, buddy, you’re gonna blow your ears out one of these days. Music is just as enjoyable at a normal volume. Maybe even more so.”
Tails wasn’t listening. He splayed both hands next to his keyboard, leaning forward with his head bowed. “It’s gone. It’s all gone. Everything, destroyed. The whole ship is destroyed. I haven’t finished modifying the input-output ratio of the engine, but that doesn’t even matter because the artillery and defense systems and everything on the entire ship has been destroyed and I—I just let it happen, I didn’t even notice, someone infiltrated the ship and destroyed it and I didn’t even notice—”
Sonic frowned. Tails’ breathing was shallow and quick, tremors starting to wrack through his body. “Whoa, Tails—”
“And now it’s wrecked, and—and—and destroyed, and in pieces and we dock in an hour, in less than an hour and I have nothing—I have a—have worse than nothing to show for it, because at least if I had nothing it would be at the—at the baseline, sa-same as it was before, and that wouldn’t be great but it would be better than having less than nothing because everything is destroyed and broken and ruined and this isn’t possible or acceptable and he’s gonna be furious—!”
“Tails!” Sonic grabbed Tails’ shoulders, in an effort to ground him, to steady him, but Tails flinched and yanked himself out of Sonic’s grasp, stumbling back against the countertop. “Stop, okay? Breathe. You’re gonna be—”
“I can—!” Tails’ voice broke off in a squeak, and then violent coughs; he doubled over, and wrapped his arms around himself as choked over gulps of air. Once more Sonic reached out to steady him, and once more Tails stumbled back, away from his touch. “I can’t—I can’t—I ha-have to—”
“Breathe,” Sonic said, and when Tails’ eyes flicked to him, he took a slow, deep breath, and then exhaled it just as slowly. “Just like that. In, and out. Nice, slow, and—”
Tails screwed his eyes shut, and yanked his ears down against his head, squeezing them tight. “Don’t—don’t tell me what to do! This is your fault! You did this! You—you broke everything, and wrecked it, and we dock in an hour and Dr Robotnik is going to see it and I—”
“You aren’t going to be here,” Sonic said firmly, even as Tails shook his head, releasing his grips on his ears to tug one of his tails around him instead. His grip on it was like iron. “Egghead can think whatever he wants, but he can think it far away from you. We’re leaving.”
“No.” Tails continued to twist his tail in his fist, in a way that honestly looked like it would be painful to Sonic, and chewed hard on the fingers of his other hand, his eyes darting around the room. His breathing was still quick, and Sonic noticed punctures in Tails’ glove now that looked like they’d been made with his own teeth. “No, no, I can—if I work now, and have a boost, then I can—I can fix it, or at least most of it, at least the actual structural damage to the ship before we land, and then he never has to know that I screwed up and ruined anything and that I’m not useful anymore—”
“Tails—”
“—and—and everything will be, it’ll be, I can do it, I can, I can—” Tails flew the short distance back over to his toolkit, and unceremoniously dumped it over, spilling tools and loose parts over the grated floor. A peal of frantic giggles escaped him as he picked a vial of glowing magenta liquid off the floor, and tossed the toolbox over his shoulder. A shiver raced up Sonic’s spine. “Yes, yes, this can work, it can—I can—”
“Wait, Tails—stop a minute, okay?” Sonic grabbed Tails’ wrist, and as if on instinct Tails threw his entire body weight to the floor, twisting to get out of Sonic’s grasp. Sonic didn’t let go. “Just—stop. What is that you have? It looks like the junk from Eggman’s chemical plant.”
Tails gave Sonic a baleful stare. “It’s a performance enhancement serum developed by Dr Starline. If ingested orally or intravenously, it shuts down pain receptors, heightens muscle strength and elasticity, and enhances adrenaline output to—hey, what—what are you doing?!”
Tails’ voice broke off in a shriek as Sonic swiped the vial from his hand and threw it hard against the opposite wall. The glass shattered, and its contents oozed down the wall and onto the floor.
“Nothing made by Starline has any business being anywhere near you,” Sonic said, fighting to control his own temper as Tails stared in horror at the ooze on the wall. “Shutting down pain receptors? Enhancing whatever? Were you listening to yourself?”
“It’s the only way I can fix anything,” Tails said in a tiny voice. Sonic’s anger started to fade as he felt Tails shaking in his grasp. “It’s the only chance I have and—and you—you broke that, too—”
Sonic sighed. “Nothing here needs to be fixed, aside from the fact that you’re still here when you really shouldn’t be. Come on, we’re bailing.”
“No.” Tails threw his weight hard against Sonic’s grip as Sonic tried to pull him up from the floor. Sonic gritted his teeth, and swallowed down any guilt that started to well up at the tears that started to pool in Tails’ left eye. “No, you’re not—you’ve done enough, stop, stop trying to make things even worse—”
“I’m not making things worse, I’m trying to help—”
“You’ve destroyed and ruined everything—!”
“I haven’t—”
“Just stop and let me go, let me go, let go, let go, let—!”
“No, I—ow, Tails—!”
Tails kicked Sonic hard, the sole of his boot connecting with Sonic’s knee hard enough to make him stumble and loosen his grip. Tails didn’t waste a second; he twisted free of Sonic’s hold and dodged around him, sprinting for the door.
“Oh no you don’t!”
Tails barely cleared the doorway before Sonic was on him. Sonic wrapped his arms around Tails in a bear hug, and in an instant Tails thrashed in his hold, kicking both feet back against Sonic’s legs and twisting around as hard as he could manage it.
“Damn it, Tails, just listen—”
“No, let me go!”
“So you can try hiding in an air duct or something? Not likely. We’re leaving.”
“No! You can’t make me!”
It was so childish Sonic might have laughed, were it not for the way Tails was digging his elbow into Sonic’s ribs. “Wanna bet?”
A wordless, furious growl escaped Tails instead of an articulate response, and for just a moment, he slowed his struggling. Sonic loosened his grip a tad, hoping that maybe Tails had tired himself out and was going to see reason—only for Tails to twist around and sink his teeth into Sonic’s arm.
He bit him. He actually bit him!
Sonic yelped and released Tails, who dropped to the floor in an undignified heap. But he once again wasted no time; he scrambled to his feet and took off down the hall, tails whirling to boost his speed.
Oh, that was it. Sonic’s patience was officially gone.
He tore down the corridor after Tails, who—despite using his tails to increase his speed—only managed to make it around one corner and halfway up to an air vent in the ceiling by the time Sonic found him. Sonic snorted. Predictable. Tails whipped around as Sonic neared, and held the vent cover between them like a shield.
“For what it’s worth,” Sonic said, “I really don’t want to do this. And I’m sorry in advance.”
Tails narrowed his eyes. “Don’t want to do wha—?”
Before he had time to finish his sentence, Sonic zipped under and behind him. And before Tails had a chance to turn, Sonic skirted up the wall and knocked his elbow into the pressure point at the base of Tails’ neck, near the top of his spine. The vent cover clattered to the floor as Tails went limp, and Sonic caught Tails in a bridal carry just before he hit the floor.
“Sorry, bud. But this is for your own good.” Sonic shifted Tails into a more comfortable position in his arms, and after a millisecond of consideration, placed a quick kiss to his little brother’s forehead. Then he set off to find a parachute, so they could leave the Flying Battery behind them.

I think we've long since established that the IDW writers, for the most part, do not understand Silver at all, but I think the reason he seems especially ill-suited for the recent stories they put him in is because of a fundamental misunderstanding of what Silver needs. Silver is not a walking time bomb or a disaster waiting to happen that needs somebody to keep him on a leash, he's just a guy who needs people who actually take him seriously
Yep, this is very accurate. In the Rivals games, Silver knows exactly what he wants, and he is shrewd! He sees through deceit, he can piece together little bits and pieces of things that do not add up, and that makes him one of the very few characters to realise the truth of the situation (Sonic and Knuckles plus Tails and Rouge in the sequel never find out "Eggman" is Eggman Nega). The issue lays with his personality and drivenness, mostly: he comes in guns blazing, and that makes everybody in a game where all characters are constantly stepping on each others' toes anyway not listen to him when he says he needs to talk to "Eggman" first. But that does not make him somebody who needs to be on a leash at all time: he'll reach his goals anyway (where it helps he's basically always right on the money in the games), and at most, someone like Espio and Blaze can offer him guidance and help think up plans. It's not at all the same as him actively needing to be kept in check before disaster happens due to his actions.
I truly have no idea where the idea that Silver is an irresponsible idiot comes from. '06 has been erased from the timeline, and Silver has starred in multiple games afterwards where he was plenty suspicious of the entire situation and far less gullible and trusting. Heck, Sonic Channel literally notes him to be a very reliable person who has something Sonic does not in such a way! And I've written multiple posts about it before, but Silver does not lie. Never! He's always honest, very direct with what he wants, and seemingly surprised when other characters don't immediately trust him for that. And he's blunt and seems to suffer from black-and-white thinking and tunnel vision, but has a heart of gold and never stops fighting for what he wants. If someone mouths him off like Lanolin did, he is going to explode at them. He's not gonna get all droopy and pouty, he's gonna attack Duo right there and get the truth out of him, Diamond Cutters be damned. But the writers seem to envision him exactly still like how they wrote him in Archie, namely as an idiot with zero critical thinking skills who haplessly kept accusing everybody of being a traitor while having only the shoddiest evidence to go on... but now subverted by having him be correct, just without him pointing out anything that supports his case because we can't have the dramatic irony plot die so quickly :)
It is frustrating and disrespectful to Silver, that is all I can make of it.

❤️ 🎁 (:>) 🐇🎨 ^^
❤️ What is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?
The trouble with this one is that I can't exactly give it away without also giving too many spoilers in the process. :<
So I'll just say this: it's an Eggman moment, and one that involves him revealing just how much control over his new plan he had all along...
🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?
You just wanted another one, didn't you. :P
Well, since you asked nicely, here's another early scene with Blue Hedgie and Green Horsie. As with last time, this too is a slightly older draft, so there might be some differences in the final DX: Director's cut. Tails is absent in this part of said scene BTW, in case you think he's wordlessly T-posing during it or something lol.
"You've never explored the rest of your own home?" Sonic asked, with a hint of bewilderment. "At all? In your whole life?"
"No, I haven't," Trudy replied bluntly, as she rubbed the back of her neck. There was really no way for her to sugarcoat it. "I've certainly read all about Viridonia's history, but I've never physically went anywhere beyond what I already know. I'd love to explore, but…"
She paused to look up at the towering trees, as well as the brilliant light that found its way through them. Her eyes focused intently, as if they were burdened with a certain hunger, before she firmly lowered her head back down, and shook it with an aura of resignment.
"…No, it's not destined for me. I wouldn't think I'm cut out for it."
The hedgehog lightly frowned in contemplation, and turned his head to take a second note of the autumnal surroundings. Even a brief glance was enough for the rich selection of reds and oranges to please his keen senses, and the soft breeze, and the mild echo of their footsteps on the cobblestone pathway, were all that was needed to fill in the silence. And yet, only a few more seconds passed before he spoke up once more.
"So… why the doubt, then? Even Knuckles the Hermit looks around his island from time to time." He chuckled at the memory of his old and trusted fire-forged friend. "And you seem to know how to get around, so what's stopping you?"
"Well, it's… it's um…" Suddenly, she turned her head to her left, as if she was embarrassed by something she dare not reveal, to Sonic's innocuous confusion. She softly bit her lip, as if to prevent herself from saying too much, and her left hand fiddled around with her ponytail. But she didn't want to rudely dismiss his query altogether…
"It's… well… the truth is…" Her sight slowly turned back around to face Sonic. On her face was a smile, but it appeared to be an artificial one, which Sonic took note of immediately, furthering his confusion. He raised an eyebrow as she attempted to find the right words for her big reveal.
"It's... my stamina," she finally confirmed, with a shrug that went along nicely with her not fully sincere grin. "It's bad. My stamina is bad."
Sonic blinked once, with a hand on his hip. "Really now?"
Trudy nodded, and a little too frantically at that. "Oh yes, it's bad. Quite bad. In fact, it absolutely stinks. Some days I can go on decently, while other days it doesn't take a lot for me to go…"
She abruptly put her gloved hand to her mouth, and dramatically mimed the act of yawning, her eyes going to-and-fro to suggest that she wasn't fully buying into this herself. She then followed that up by swinging one leg in a nonetheless careful manner, and then the other one after that… At least, that's what she intended to do, but had to stop herself at first, and did a little hop away from Sonic's space before doing so for real, so as to avoid accidentally tripping him up.
During all this, Sonic still had his hand on his hip. His eyebrow stayed raised. And although part of him wanted to laugh at this amusing performance from his new friend, the context involved made him uncertain of whether he should or not. So he decided to keep a stone face. As Trudy rounded it out with her slowly stretching her arms to her side, with that nervous grin still visible even now, she clasped her hands, and as soon as she was done, her intense look immediately appeared to imply that she deeply regretted everything she just did.
"Yes, this um… this body of mine is not the most equipped for high-octane adventuring, you see." Her left foot fidgeted just a little bit. "To my regret."
Sonic didn't know what to make of this. If that was her reason, then that would be fair enough, but… something wasn't right, he thought to himself. There was more to this, wasn't there? Granted, his friend never claimed to be an actor, but it really did seem to him that there was something she was less willing to share.
At the same time… it's her choice, isn't it? If she wasn't comfortable going further into it, then he won't chastise her for it. He didn't know if he could expect himself to not think about it for who knows how long, now that this was a burning mystery for him, but to Sonic, that was an acceptable outcome if it meant respecting her privacy.
"Y'know," he muttered. His hand hadn't moved, but a familiar smirk started to manifest. His head gently turned to the right. "You've been a pretty good adventurer so far."
Trudy blinked, and she looked down at her tall boots. Her hands remained clasped, although their grasp was less firm than it was before.
"If you… say so," she responded quietly. She didn't believe it herself, but Sonic sure did, and she wasn't going to argue with someone as experienced as he.
🐇 Do you write for yourself, for others, or both?
Both. :3
It makes sense that I'd write in part for myself and my own interest in the story I want to tell, cause otherwise... why would I bother taking it up lol. But I want to give my friends, and anyone else who may be interested, something to enjoy as well. Especially my mutuals who have supported me during my bouts of second-guessing and other down periods.
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
As I said during the previous fanfic ask meme, I'd accept anything. Any scene, any battle, any location. Whatever moment they wanted to portray, I'd be thankful for it.
If I had to pick a scene though, cliche choice though it may be, the Sonic and Trudy heart-to-heart about the latter's condition would be a nice one. As long as the artist wasn't Yardley or ABT lol, since a lot of this scene relies on subtle expressions and movements between both characters, and Trudy's not having an outright messy breakdown over it either. (She's certainly melancholy and a little anxious, in a way that makes it apparent she's never expressed her inner thoughts about it with anyone this deeply until now, but her demeanour is still fairly restrained and composed.) The location they're in during said scene would also be pretty to see visualized. :o
I guess the final battle would also be a most interesting choice, due to… well, everything that's went into it. That's all I'll say about that. :^)

For the choose violence asks, 9 and 10 for Sonic
OK OK I ANSWER THIS NOW!!!!!! YIPPEE
9. Worst part of canon
Ok I'll be real here. I haven't gotten through too much Sonic media atm (slowly working my way through, was only dragged back into it like in november) so I don't really have much to go off of for this. However, game plots are canon. Obviously. So I will use this to complain about my biggest plot complaint in any Sonic game I've played yet.
Sonic Frontiers. Literally almost Everything about the ending was basically the devs throwing stuff at a wall until it sticked and called it a day (with the time developing the game and the dev team size? I don't blame them, I blame the higher ups. Doesn't mean I can't be disappointed with what could've been). But the thing I hate the most about the plot?
SONIC'S CYBER CORRUPTION. OH MY. I LITERALLY CAN'T.
They spent a significant amount of time (hell Rhea was all about it) building it up. Sonic getting worse as he progressed through the islands. It came up so much to the point of having a whole island's story beat dedicated to it, making it CLEARLY a VERY IMPORTANT thing.
AND THEN THEY RESOLVE IT WITHIN SECONDS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHY.
Nothing at all? Just. Amy and Tails and Knuckles holding hands around him and for an unexplained reason going back to cyberspace and freeing him? Not only does it not make sense, but that is such a BAD RELEASE for plot tension!!!! You gotta drag it out!!! Slowly build up, then BOOM EXPLOSION!!!!!! and then the smoke fading from the explosion afterwards, but in plot format. If that makes sense. Even if they did something like a little cyberspace level where Sonic runs through a crimson red cyberspace with no rings + more than usual hazards, with little Amy/Tails/Knuckles themed things to help you get through it damageless, that'd be more satisfying than what they did. Literally what the hell. I hope that that was because of development hell and wasn't like that originally. Because if it was then I'll be in more Agony than before because WHAT THE HELL. WHY.
Oh yeah and also. Not really a thing I hate hate but. Not a fan of how Frontiers also made the IDW comics canon to the games via Sonic mentioning Tangle in a random voiceline that can happen or smth like that iirc. I feel like all the different canons (games, IDW, Prime, X, etc.) should be kept completely separate from each other yk. That's also a peeve I have with Prime, as much as I love it (even though I haven't finished S2 yet...). "Sonic Prime is part of the game canon" No it isn't ❤️
10. Worst part of fanon
If I'm honest. I don't really interact with the Sonic fandom as a whole the way I do with like. Monster Hunter and jjba and stuff. Only with my friends and a few select sonic blogs (thoam comic blog, starjoy, themetalvirus [egghog AU is VERY good], neurotypical-sonic, etc). But from what I've seen? Where would I begin.
I step 0.0038101 cm outside my typical Sonic group to look at new stuff and the likes and:
"He would not fucking say that" "He would not fucking do that" "She would not fucking do that you're just making her like that to get her out the way of your mlm ship" "Cool concept but they would not fucking act like that" "cool concept but there's nsfw" "Why are there so many werehog nsfw fics" "ok that's shipping sonic and tails. blocked" "he would not fucking do that" "damn the sonic/eggman shipping fanbase is surprisingly larger than what I expected" "He would not fucking say that" "absolutely insane fic of sonic getting everyone he knows into communism I never expected for actual communism theory to be in here but it's a crackfic so I'll let it slide just this once" "the ship dynamic is wrong they would not fucking act like that. They wouldn't even act like this in general"
There's only 2 people so far that I can 100% trust for good, in-character sonadow: Kirsten, and you. And even then Kirsten hasn't written too much for them (understandable) so it mostly falls onto you. You are my light in the darkness man. All of your Sonic fics are QUALITY. You get the characters. Your sonadow is fucking great. Like, you get them on a pretty damn intimate level. You can take their characters and put them in very different situations than usual (DNA Collision for example) and be able to show how they react to the situations and others, and how that'd affect things like relationships AND keep them in character the whole way! Also the way you like. Used sonadow and Tails' (understandable) reaction to Sonic forgetting about their plans and planning the date with Shadow over it to show the issues that'd eventually end up piling on top of each other and growing and festering until it would eventually turn Tails into the threat he is in the future. It's great for that too, you're not only writing them in character but you're also putting them into and applying them in very interesting situations! Relationships affect the people around them in many ways and I feel that (understandably) a lot of fics don't really show this. But you do and it's awesome. Impactful Skip is GREAT. And ofc the whole situation and having it be sonadow also creates a VERY interesting dynamic between Sonic and Shadow. Love that.
.....yeah ever get carried away. Yeah. That was just meant to be me talking about how you and Kirsten (mostly you bc you simply have more of it) are the only 2 people I can reliably find good sonadow from to show how Bad the state of fanon is when it comes to sonadow but it just turned into gushing about your fics. Got a little sidetracked from the violence and hate and turned to love. Hope you enjoyed the me loving your fics jumpscare 👍

I finished Chaos Island again
Odd thing to say, but I had a better time than my first playthrough? Like ok, the way I've been playing is map out the entire island then do the story stuff. No needing to stop and do cyberspace or worrying about tokens, I literally just spin in circles for 10 minutes (or fish, but circles is faster) and I'm good for the entire island. It's been nice.
Yes, Chaos suffers horribly from 2D, but the dash pads are just as bad on Ares and at least when I see an island in the distance, it's easy enough to run around the edge looking for a rail system rather than trying to figure which path that's out of draw-distance leads me to the top of a ledge. I like the wider area without walls sectioning things off.
That's...about where the good parts end, though.
I've been avoiding chests I know for a fact are traversal objects, (I'm actually surprised how well I remember?) but the ground is incredibly uneven to the point you can't properly cyloop some stuff. This is also bad because while you go flying half the time, Sonic also sticks to the ground and makes crossing the few lava rivers an actual problem. You jump and his gravity almost follows the curve of the ledge and dunks you. You have to put in some serious effort to combat the wonky physics here.
The quests have always been my least favorite part of the game, but this is abysmal. Bridge the gap sucks ass because you have no control over where the homing attack locks onto and you keep having to reset because oopsie! Sonic wasted 2 seconds by going out of his way to change the homing reticle two frames before you hit the button! I also had no issues with pinball on my first playthrough, but I get the hate now. Look I like pinball and I like pinball in Sonic, it's the one quest that's on brand for him (I will seriously never understand why cutting grass is an actual required objective in this game), but my GOD is that a bare bones and bad pinball table. The score multiplier also gets reset if you lose a ball, so when it decides to off itself, it pads onto your time. Hacking minigame is an odd choice, but I like it? Maybe I should play Ikaruga...
While I like mapping the island, the part I hate most here is two points are locked behind story progress and this is the only time in the game they do this. It's stupid and I hate it. I hate it because it forces me to do the story and this is the point it gets really bad.
Like Kronos was kinda nothing, Ares was entertaining with Knuckles (even though they were trying to gaslight me about Knuckles never leaving his island like I'm sorry have the last 20 years been a joke to you?), but Chaos actually pissed me off. Tails' dialogue is stupid because it's so clearly written by someone who isn't smart trying to sound smart by using big words to confuse others even though they aren't actually complicated. (mutation is not a hard word to grasp, guys.) That's not how Tails speaks and it completely throws the idea of character voice out the bloody window to fit into an archetype.
Man I wanna play Xenoblade. I'll even take Xenoblade 3 with Alvis being reduced to an ageist computer at this point.

Today I've seen all of the 8 Sonic Prime season 1 episodes and I must say, I WAS STUNNED.
Watch out! Includes spoilers!
It was amazing! Every universe was a good idea and I felt like I read through fanfictions. Also I felt like every single character was acting like they would do (so no shadow edgelord or dump knuckles).
Everyone had a special part!
Amy had her moment when they were in this wild wood AU (=Another Universe) (btw I dunno what they were called again. I forgot. xD)
Tails had his moment when Sonic was in this world with the eggman empire thing. Same with rouge there.
What I think about the characters:
I really liked how Rouge joined the crew and in my opinion, she should be more active in team sonic. I like seeing her on that team. Even if I love seeing her act in Team Dark, this was a special moment! I liked it when she had her moments with Knuckles. I am not a Knuxouge shipper, but these moments made me smile, 'cause they were acting like good friends.
When I looked at Tails in this wood AU, I was not very pleased, bc he acted like a wild animal. But he was still cute. Nine was the one which reminded me of the fanfiction "where was my hero" and I was really surprised when I saw his spider-like invention on his back!
What can I say about Amy? She was amazing. Even if 2 versions of her were evil, she was still good. I was a little bit disturbed when I saw her as "Rusty Rose" but it was still cool.
Eggman or these other versions of eggman were not really impressive for me. I felt like they were all a part of the scientist. Like in this disney movie: "inside out" So yeah it was a funny idea to have a baby in this, but it kinda got on my nerves. xD
Sonic was unbelievably well written! He cared about his friends, he was like he is! It was so whoaaa! He still had his rivalry with Shadow and the fighting scene was so well animated. I really liked the plot twist, that this all was actually his fault and that he learned to appreciate the moments and memories with his friends in these other worlds.
Gladly Shadow was not really an edgelord like he was before in the games. I cannot describe why I felt like that. He spoke so softly and had not this sharp voice like in Team sonic racing for example. (Btw I am talking about the german voice actor, bc I watched it in German.) What I didn't like was when he had barely any scenes but I am sure that he will get more of it in the future (if there will be a second season).
I mostly had my eyes on Knuckles this entire time (bc he is my fav character in this entire franchise) and felt good while watching Sonic prime.
Since I saw the Sonic Boom Series with "Boom Knuckles" in it, I wasn't sure if this series would make fun of him and turn him into a ... well I would say not a well written character again, but I was impressed that he had his badass moments. Of course there were a few scenes I didn't really enjoy but all in all. It was good as heck.
I really loved the part when he was captain and even if I thought he could never be a good comanda/ leader (bc in my opinion he really messed up in sonic forces) he did a very good job. Even if I hated the start at this Pirate-Universe where he hid when this other ship appeared, I like how it turned out at the end. It kinda scared me how he looked at the part of the paradox prism and I first thought he would turn evil or would betray his crew, but he didn't.
So, now I come to the animation part:
It was very detailed, like the ears were moving when Sonic and the others showed emotions or they walked. It was very cartoon-like animated but what can I say? It's a kids show. I found it kind of annoying when they repeated these whole scenes when Sonic fell down on his face or against the walls but yeah. It's still a show for kids.
Ohhhh and the references with tails code being 1992 or others were really cool.
What also caught my attention was these time skips. It was kind of confusing to understand but it was okay.
And some of the characters had FANGS! Ahhh! ><
I absolutely LOVED these pixel animation parts when they remembered a piece of the past.
Now to put it all into a summary:
It was a great series and I hope they are releasing a second season. ^w^
It was much better (IN MY OPINION) than I thought it would be.

Now that I've got my FEELINGS out of the way, other assorted thoughts on Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Spoilers throughout, but the big spoilers under the break.
Though it's far more faithful to the source material, it's just as much of a kids movie as the first one. While Sonic 2020 had a standard road trip plot, Sonic 2022 made sure to work in a silly dance break and wedding hijinx that felt like it belonged in a far worse movie. Still, that's not a bad thing! Like the first movie, Sonic 2 does a pretty good job of appealing to longtime fans while also targeting a young demographic. It's fun, even if not ALL of the material did it for me. The important beats hit, and that's what mattered.
The human characters from the first movie were pretty well used, all things considered. It was a balancing act to involve them in the story but not overshadow the characters that the audience was actually there to see, and I think they did a good job. Though Tom almost certainly had less screen time in this one, he really made his moments count.
Though I found it very pointed that the movie never explicitly acknowledges that Tom is a cop. Like, he clearly still is, but they never say it. And frankly I don't blame them.
I love how the writers leaned into the Wachowski family dynamic established at the end of the first movie. It feels like far too often seemingly important characters like them just get written out for these sorts of sequels (presumably because the actors don't want to return, which this movie thankfully avoided).
Jim Carrey does a great job, as expected. I have to say I preferred his slightly less manic portrayal in the first film, and I was disappointed at how little he got to interact with other humans in this one, since he definitely thrives from having a physical scene partner. Still, I can't fault it too much, because this does fit with him having a complete mental breakdown at the end of the last movie. Robotnik was still great and I really hope Carrey comes back for the third movie before he retires.
While they definitely expanded Stone from his characterization in the first movie, I don't mind it. It's cool seeing him being a bit more overtly villainous.
Tails and Knuckles were very good. Colleen O'Shaughnessey got a couple scenes to really show off her acting chops in a way you don't normally get in the games, and I loved it. And I thought this version of Knuckles really managed to portray his naiveté better than Boom ever did.
The movies definitely have my favorite characterization for Sonic himself out of any media. I loved watching him go from being Tom's immature kid to Tails' big brother and mentor. That moment where Tails falls asleep while talking to Sonic mirrored the scene in the hotel room in the first movie and I loved seeing Sonic grow up a little.
But not TOO much, as Sonic also effortlessly slides into the annoying younger brother role for Knuckles
G.U.N.!
UM DID LONGCLAW KILL KNUCKLES' WHOLE TRIBE????
They clearly tried really hard to reconcile the first movie's strange origin for Sonic with the rest of the series' canon, and for the most part it worked.
For a movie with the word "hero" coming up so much, and to end with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles teaming up, I'm a little sad they didn't work in a contrived Sonic Heroes reference. It would have been dumb, but no dumber than that dance battle earlier.
SONIC'S LOVE FOR TOM AND MADDIE BEING THE CATALYST TO TRANSFORM HIM INTO SUPER SONIC JUST MELTED MY HEART. AND HE CALLED TOM HIS DAD!!! Sometimes a family can be a small town cop, a veterinarian, a dog, a super fast alien that vaguely resembles a hedgehog, AND a genius two tailed fox AND an out of touch Proud Warrior Race Guy.
On that note, the Super Sonic transformation was well forshadowed. The constant mention of "the Master Emerald turns thoughts into power" as well as Robotnik pointedly claiming he'll harness negative emotion with it... Sonic using the Power of Love didn't feel contrived at all, which is a feat in itself.
Still waiting on some butt rock, though. Crush 40 in the third movie or we riot!
While I was really expecting (and hoping) for the third movie to take these building blocks and adapt the first Sonic Adventure, I still got unreasonably excited at the mention of "Fifty years ago" in the post credits, followed by the general's apprehensive "Project Shadow." It's awesome to see them leaning so heavily into the series' lore after the unambitious first movie, and if they can only bank on Jim Carrey coming back for one more movie (if even that), then telling the story of Gerald Robotnik is probably a good move.
