I don't want to see any of you usamericans talk about "punching nazis" ever again. I don't want to hear yall pat each other on the back and say shit like "If I had been alive during the holocaust I would have done something about it", or any other white savior shit like that.
You don't care about jews, you didn't care about them back then, just as you don't care about palestinians now. Yall repeat and repeat "the holocaust was terrible, we should condemn it", not because you care, but because it lifts yourselves up. Because it's the only war that the US won where they just happened to be on "the good side", so it portrays you as heroes, warriors of justice, which happens to be excelent propaganda material, so you exploit it. You make memorials, you make films, hundreds of them, fetishizing the jewish suffering and portraying yourselves as the force of good that saved them all. Meanwhile, dozens of other genocides - many of them even bigger and bloddier than the holocaust - happen around the world, many of them endorsed or supported by your government. But yall don't care. It's not the holocaust. You're not the good guys in this one so why bother making a movie, why pay atention to it at all? It's hard to keep track of everything happening in the world, it has nothing to do with you. So you just keep scrolling your socials paying no mind to whatever fucked up shit is happening out there, until you run into some fucker from the global south posting something mildly critical of israel, or about how the United States shamelessly exploits jewish history for the sake of warfare, or how victim mentality is a dangerous thing for a marginalized group to hold on to, and you get furious. How dare they say things that don't align with the narrative I've been fed my whole life?? They are anti-semitic!! They hate jews!! They are nazis!! And you tell them so, you put them in their place, because you are a democrat and a good guy and you won't tolerate nazis. And then you reblog "support our troops" posts and write letters to your president begging him to bomb brown people on the other side of the planet because they are terrorists, I think. And I'm here to tell you that you are not the good guy, you are not a hero. You are a victim of indoctrination and an idiot, and your domestic white politics mean absolutely nothing to the rest of the world.
Yes, I did watch Schindler's list. No, I don't hate jewish people. Yes, I'll aggresively condemn Israel's actions and anyone blind enough to say that one genocide justifies another, and I will always support palestinian people. And if you happen to be a jewish person that has somehow found themselves in the center of a conversation that isn't even about you, and getting negative attention you don't deserve, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that no matter what you do or where you live, you keep being used as a scapegoat and your life and history exploited for colonialist propaganda, your heritage is worth more than that.
So keep calling yourselves the good guys, keep pulling the anti-semite card or the "Palestine is homophobic" argument. Keep playing your white politics in your white country that you stole from non-white people. The rest of the world is watching you and history will remember you as what you are and always have been; fucking colonizers.

sorry to add to the #discourse about the werlyt stuff in ffxiv, and feel free to ignore this, but your posts just got me thinking about how the average western consumer of japanese media doesn't know how to spot signs of japanese nationalism in their fave game, movie, anime, etc. For example, I remember a couple of weeks ago on twitter someone said that Miyazaki's works feature prominent elements of japanese nationalism despite not necessarily being pro-war, and both the replies and QRTs were an absolute disaster. ffxiv is a liberal game, its politics are not exceptional; they just aren't (as) egregious
Considering the social locations of people who make a piece of media and how that location affects the way they write things, like politics, isn't an outlandish concept. But ffxiv fans always seem hyperdefensive about this and i cannot understand why
yeah for sure! imo people are getting better about it (don't think it even registered in most of the english-speaking side of the internet's heads that there was a pacific theater for a long time), with more eastern media being translated and gaining popularity that DOES legitimately have leftist authors, but you still have a ton of "how can this work have jp nationalist elements when they say War is Bad 🤨". feels like a lot of this is cause really anime/manga/games were so vaunted as the ultimate escape for americans (not exclusive) and now that people are gaining more of a political consciousness, there's this need for the things that are nostalgic and soothing for them to be "good" media without Problems. which is like. not the point man. though people have always studied and conversed about media trends and the influence of eras on the art created within them and there's always been a knee-jerk You're Being Crazy reaction to it (even though if it's a conversation they're not interested in right now, the people who have this reaction usually can always just...step out lol), I feel like it's just magnified by the way social media uhh does all that. and on top of it a lot of discourse is in bad faith, so sometimes not giving people the time of day DOES seem like the correct and safe option every time but it's like...some people apply it so broadly and blindly that it's basically anything that upsets me = wrong and bullshit.
And you're totally right about xiv LMFAOOO it feels like some people are compelled to do damage control for the game like it's personal. you'd assume that everyone is working off of the recognition that ffxiv is a mass market product and a feel-good fantasy and the writing may not even reflect the totality of a writer's beliefs, but rather what they believe is the median, liberal truth that they're willing to sell. sometimes in oddball places you can find hints of something more genuine but these are exceptions. & acting like it's proofed from this is suggesting that somehow final fantasy fourteen the mmo is interested in breaking any status quos and the whole of its creators have collectively managed to break apart from the time and history they exist in, when in truth it relies on it to guide its writing and business plan. i don't think this is a crazy controversial thing. it's a normal thing. & i cant really speak for how other people are talking about it, but i rarely suggest malevolence in my critiques of the shit I enjoy moreso than I'm saying Le Hegemony Has Arrived....something not even individual people can escape myself included much less a corporation....but the accusation is assumed anyway. What is the worst that can happen by acknowledging some stories and patterns in xiv's story have very liberal takes on topics in which liberalism understands and treats poorly? i dunno the answer to this one honestly I do not understand the fear

It's always like that in the world. The ones that speaks true and making some changes are shutting down. Am I right guys 😂 But this is not like that. It's active attack. Bet some blogs here 👀👀 wants they audience back. I saw them already coping Maddy and other successful ones. Like you not only talk about his movies and whereabouts but thirst and talk about other shit. There are blogs here who were only about the new post, new movie and that's it. Some drama lama of ex or something and after pumpkingate they lose the traffic so now we thirst and discuss another celebs too. Only one I've read cover to cover so far is Armed Forces: Masculinity and Sexuality in the American War Film - Robert Eberwein which was both interesting and frustrating in that a lot of it was (mildly defensively lol, as a response to a lot of queer film theory) explaining how a lot of homoerotic shit isn't intended to be interpreted as actually gay, but I'm glad I read it because I was specifically trying to understand how contemporary audiences viewed homoerotic shit.

I know I'm late to the party here, but I picked up Jedi: Fallen Order when it was free on PS+, and have been spending some of my sleepless hours over the last several days playing through it. I'm not done yet, but I'm getting close. A few thoughts about it, in no particular order.
(spoilers, probably, but they're mild.)
Cal, I'm very sorry I was disinterested from early impressions and thought you were kind of bland. You are, in fact, a good, good egg and I'm glad to have you.
Force-based psychometry should have been a thing a whole lot sooner. It's also probably the most elegant choice they could have made for in-game lore drops. Thumbs up.
BD-1: best droid.
Whoever designed BD's holomaps, however, needs to be dragged out back and given a...stern talking-to.
On that note: oh dear god does this game need fast travel. Please. I am begging with all my heart.
I mean, Merrin can apparently teleport wherever the hell she wants, so can't she teach us or something? You can come up with a narrative excuse here, guys. I PROMISE YOU CAN.
Side note: I never did watch the Clone Wars series, and God knows there's too much ancillary Star Wars media to keep track of everything unless you make it your full-time job, so this is my first encounter with the Nightsisters.
They are entirely my jam.

Overall thoughts: I appreciate what they're going for with the combat in this game; I'm not very good at it, although I'm getting better; I'd probably get better much faster if I were less impatient on account of not wanting to retrace my steps all the time if I screw up, because I reiterate: OMG THESE MAPS.
Upside? Story difficulty exists. Thaaaaaank yooooooou.
Related: There are some combat achievements I haven't dinged yet and am planning to try in the post-game, and I'll probably change the difficulty back at some point while I'm at it, now that I've got the maps fully cleared and at least kind of know where I'm going? Mostly.
Having found every chest (thank you to whoever wrote the guide at True Achievements; you rock) and thereby discovered pretty much every poncho variant known to mankind -- except for the clear plastic kind they give you at theme parks so you can keep dry in the rain and/or at messy stage shows, and now I wish they'd tossed in one of those for kicks -- I would like to encourage the devs, if they have the time between now and April, to put a few different kinds of collectibles on the map next time. Just one or two. For me.
(Oh, ponchos. The '70s were a weird damn time, okay.)
Elemental Nature II + Magus: pretty pretty lightsaber combo.
I was also super torn about color choice, but I went with cyan and really have no regrets. My personal headcanon for it: you find your crystal in a cave of ice, you might as well stick with the color palette.
Above all, though, the main reason I started writing this list was the scene I just watched, where we got to a pivotal dramatic moment and Cal got properly knighted, with a lightsaber and all, and my jaw fucking dropped, because it's been decades now of Star Wars and all these movies and shows and games and books and shit and -- again, with the caveat here that I absolutely haven't seen everything, but still -- that was the first time I'd seen that happen.

HOW WAS THAT THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN THAT HAPPEN
all the points to the devs of this game for making the obvious choice that somehow wasn't obvious at all.
(P.S. If you give me a bogling pet for my ship, LET ME PLAY WITH IT. Glimpsing it in the vents now and then is not enough. I pout. Still amused that Greez A: has noticed signs of its presence, if not its actual presence and B: is perplexed by it, though.)

this is going to be so long i'm sorry but i just love talking about it so let's start!
i'm going to highlight some of the movies from my favourites list on letterboxd aka the movies that butter my bun:
— Skyfall (2012) and 1917 (2019) both directed by Sam Mendes are honestly great movies with Skyfall for me being the best Bond movie and 1917 as one of the best war movies. What made 1917 one of my favourites was the watching it at cinema experience plus the reveal in the end is just *chef's kiss*
— Tarantino movies. Like that's it. I know a lot of ppl don't like him but for me he's one of the best writers and sure has his problems but you cannot deny his work is great. Inglorious Basterds for me take the cake as his best movie with Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill: Part I being up there as well. One of his underrated movies is definitely Jackie Brown which I've loved.
— Period dramas. Another one of my fave genres. Emma. (2020) being one of my favourite movies. Emma (2009) is also a great adaptation albeit it is a series. Pride and Prejudice (2005) and (1995) are great as well. Little Women has recently grown on me way more and remains my favourite Greta Gerwig movie. Another underrated movie for me is Ophelia which as the title says focuses more on Ophelia from the play Hamlet. It's really well done and I've enjoyed watching it.
— This one is also a period drama but it is a bollywood movie so I wanted to highlight it. Jodhaa Akbar is a MUST watch such a good movie it's insane like I'm sorry you have a sword fight sequence between two lovers and you have won me over.
— Let's get franchises out of the way. Obviously Marvel movies are some of my favourites with Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: Ragnarok which are in my top 3. Both Black Panther movies and Spider-man: No Way Home are taking honourable mentions. For their series my favourite has been Moon Knight. (Sony gets their cookies for Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse and obviously Venom because come on now eddie and venom are otp y'all don't get it like i do)
— Next big franchise is Star Wars. Original trilogy: Empire Strikes Back. Prequel trilogy: Revenge of the Sith (I'm an Anakin girlie unfortunately) and Sequel trilogy: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson supremacy). Series: Obi-wan Kenobi (i cried). Honourable mention to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (i also cried).
— Since I mentioned Rian Johnson let's expand on that because the man just gets movies and everyone should watch Looper and Knives Out!!
— Denis Villeneuve. MY MAN!!!! Arrival and Dune *chef's kiss* if you can bear longer movies also Blade Runner 2049 but it isn't one of my favorites exactly because it was long and boring. And since probably someone will say the same for Dune at least Dune has you looking at Oscar Isaac and Timothee Chalamet sure they look miserable but that's when men look the best.
— Spy movies? like idk how to call this but let me list them all. Anna (2019) they succeeded where The Red Sparrow failed like if you're looking for anything similar to Black Widow Anna is the one I would recommend a thousand times. The Nice Guys and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. great comedies I just love them. It's not really a spy but assassin I guess but John Wick franchise is the shit and the best movie is obviously John Wick 2.
— Another director that has me is unfortunately Christopher Nolan. Can I get more basic than that? I do admit his faults and that's sound mixing is fucking awful, I don't understand his movies while I am watching them most of the time and this man cannot write a female character for the life of him BUT 🎶 shapes and colours 🎶. His ideas are what draw me in and it's just visual masterpieces doesn't matter if I can't hear the dialogue if it looks good am I right?
— Smashing musicals and animation together because this is already becoming too long. Singin' In The Rain and The Sound of Music are a MUST watch and also I'm a Phantom of the Opera girlie so if you're going to watch anything watch the 25th anniversary version. I am also unfortunately a Hamilton girlie and the damage to my life caused by that damn musical is irreparable. For animation musical Hercules, The Emperor's New Groove, Anastasia, The Lion King and Tangled and purely animation Howl's Moving Castle, Lilo and Stitch, The Incredibles and Inside Out.
— Now it's time for a quick fire: Ford v Ferrari and Rush are two best movies for my motorsport girlies, Gone Girl and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire for my book girlies, Death at a Funeral and Hot Fuzz for the british comedy girlies, i'm also unfortunately a Titanic girlie probably the movie i've watched most in my life, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS!!! A. MUST. WATCH. Monty Python movies are great if you ignore some of the outdated jokes. Jackie is one of my favorites just because it's one of Natalie's Portman's best performances and that's also including Black Swan but both movies are also visually stunning.
— The Death of Stalin is one of the best comedies as well. Ready Player One is one of my weirder favourites since many ppl see it as an average movie but i'd recommend it to anyone (literally can't believe it's my favourite Spielberg movie 😭😭). Also add to the video game genre Tron: Legacy because I will also recommend that movie to anyone. The Grand Budapest Hotel is also a must watch like if anyone made the world go through a pink paint shortage before Barbie did then it's this movie and finally The Batman (2022). Let's end on a battinson note just because.
— Crazy to think I haven't even mentioned all of my favourites but I guess this is kinda the jist of it all. Basically my taste is anything as long as I like it I guess jsbsjsbsjs. (I forgot to mention the horror genre but that's just because I don't really have a favourite movie like if I had to say anything it would be The Conjuring movies.)
— As for Le Belle Et La Bête it's one of my new favourites and honestly got me into a french cinema mood so I'll probably find more favourites there. One of my goals has always been to watch more foreign movies but not many have entered my favourites club unfortunately. Also fuck disney live-action remakes (except you cinderella (2015)).

Hiii I hope u doing well uwu did u know about what some people are saying, they're say that the second movie of bnha it was canon what do u think? Sorry for my bad English hahahah
I'm doing well haha don't worry! (And your English is good!) The second movie is heroes rising right? Ah.. the scene where Kacchan and Izuku fight together always gets me emotional I could never forget it hehe but it was supposed to be canon! I don't have the source but the ending of the movie with Izuku transferring OFA to Kacchan was supposed to be the official end of my hero academia but the author found a "better" ending so it changed! I kind of want to talk about it with the latest chapter that came out. Horikoshi has always ended sad/angsty arcs with a positive note, he's not the kind of author to write a straight-up tragedy so if the supposed-to-be ending of MHA was Kacchan and Izuku accepting each other, fighting together and sharing OFA, i don't think a "better" ending is Kacchan dying, Izuku going berserk and so killing everyone, winning the war and ending up mourning for the rest of his life. Come on, the manga gonna end with a festival, and Izuku and Kacchan will share a crepe I accept no less happiness from these two!
Oh! That's right! One last thing I liked about the heroes rising movie is how kacchan asked "this is the end of your dream you know?" like he knows being born without a quirk is a trauma for Izuku so he cares a lot about that! You know how there's this theory that Izuku isn't wasn't born quirkless and All for one stole his quirk, if it's actually revealed to be true and Bakugou learns that Izuku's messed up childhood could have been avoided if it wasn't for All for one, Bakugou's going to be even more mad.. he cares about Izuku a lot so... I really want to see that
Talking about caring... love and stuff:) I believe Horikoshi made the death scene so bkdk's reunion would be even more emotional and, well... romantic. I didn't want this post to turn into a "why I think bkdk is the most romantic shit I've read in my entire life" post but here we are, deal with my rant, please :D
I remember once Horikoshi said he was bad at writing romance... if he deadass dared to write bkdk's relationship as soulmat-ish as it is and still makes Izuku end up with Ochaco.. then either Shonen Jump forced Horikoshi to give a straight relationship, either he was too scared of the dudebros' homophobia, either he's actually really bad at romance 😭 Please Izuku thinks about Ocha as much as I think about watering my cactuses... (once every 2 months-) and let me tell you guys, if you think about your "best friend" more than you think about your wife, you married the wrong person, I'm so sorry-
So if Horikoshi has the same balls he had when he wrote the death of the fan's favorite character (again, he'll come back to life I'm sure of it) then he'll have them to write the most romantic shit you'll ever see when Izuku comes back and sees what Shigaraki did. Horikoshi really understands so well the whole "nothing's black and white, it's all nuances of gray", no matter what subject it is about, including love. Bakugou loves Izuku but his pride and his fear of Izuku's selflessness made him show his ugliest side and bully Izuku for years, meanwhile Izuku gets very possessive, aggressive and selfish the second anyone attacks Kacchan physically or emotionally. Bakugou is inspired by Izuku and naturally wants to feel closer to him by imitating him, no matter if it's the side he likes (drive to save, courage, kindness) or the sides he dislikes (self sacrifice, mutters...) Izuku has always done the same thing, winning like Kacchan, and cursing like kacchan.. they're opposites but can't live without each other, prefer to die than live without the other..
So now that the angst is at its highest peak... I expect peak romance as well. Of course i have high expectations, Horikoshi wrote the best romantic dynamic I've read in my entire life, and the story's genre isn't even romance

i'm sorry to rpf on main but 'andrew garfield was in love with jesse eisenberg' is a hilll i'm going to die on.
similarly, andrew garfield played eduado as in love with mark and watching the movie through that lens enriches the whole experience. fight me.
tsn deserved to win best picture in 2011. out of all the nominees that year, it's the one that has only gained relevance as time passes and had something to say about our culture, both back then and right now. i think it's almost more relevant now than back then. its social commentary on the way we live our lives on the internet is pretty spot on. i mean 'the internet is written in ink'. give me one line better from another movie that year. we lived on farms then we lived in cities and now we're gonna live on the internet?? damn.
this isnt an opinion, more like an observation? back in 2010, people complained about the harsh depiction of zuck but he's worked so hard to prove the movie not only right but also now it almost reads as mild compared to who that guy actually is. it's fascinating in terms of tsn's cultural legacy. where's that one quote from that article about tsn turning 10 yo? the movie couldn't predict what facebook would turn into (in terms of misinformation and manipulation of information) but it understood that the desire to tear down the establishment is not the same as the wish to build something better in its place? anyways, that.
it has one of the greatest soundtracks ever. i don't think any movie has topped it since. that opening sequence with hand covers bruise? holy shit.
i always wonder if it does enough to condemn the elitist misogynistic culture of those rich harvard guys/those rich tech guys. like... i always joke that it's one of my 'ooops the filmmakers forgot women were people' favourite films (i have a few of those) but at the same time, it feels very pointed and purposeful in its depiction. and we know that fincher has a history of exploring toxic masculinity as a theme without explicitly condemning it and trusting his audience to get the message. which, honey, men are not smart. i mean, we get the iconic erica moment telling us from the start 'it'll be because you're an asshole' and then the movie proceeds to prove that to us. but is that enough? is the movie sexist or is the character? or both? i don't know i kinda go back and forth on this. again not a take, just thoughts.
i read this one letterboxd review like a year ago that said something along the line of: best movie of all time they have him tell us ' i don't want friends' in the first eight minutes and it blew my fucking mind. they literally tell us in the first eight minutes, aaron sorkin i just want to talk.
i love him and would kill for him, but eduardo telling mark 'i was your only friend you had one friend' was not only untrue but kinda manipulative. not that mark didn't deserve it.

ohh 100%!!! i mean, i feel like so much of their friendship/early relationship was based around big existential questions of who am i/whats my purpose/what do i want/where do i belong/etc etc and i really don't see them stopping talking about that stuff after they get together 'officially'??
tbh i think they're a pretty chatty couple in general anyways so i can easily see that being part of their bedtime routine. i think often one of them prob. has something on their mind and babbles while the others hums sleepily ?? like i can totally see harry rambling about the theme of his next album while louis is all 'sounds great baby' while yawning, not because he's not interested but because harry has been at it for an hour and louis has to be up at 5am lol. i also really like the idea of them reading before bed and gossiping about what's happening in their respective books? that's when louis isn't the one doing the reading obvs. but yeah i just have a mental image of them reading side by side with clifford sleeping at their feet and one of them GASPS because of something and the other closes their book and goes 'tell me everything' because even when they're reading individually, they're actually reading together. i also think once harry starts living in the lighthouse basically fully time, he likes to be Involved with the b&b so he likes to go over the next day's schedule before bed and what they gotta do and what the menu is and who is checking in, etc etc. just to feel organized and while louis loves to be organized himself he'll always tease him like 'can we deal with tomorrow tomorrow please ???' and 'no shop talk in bed!!!' which always make harry laugh because he 100% lets harry talk about his song writing process in bed. he just doesn't want to think about HIS work in bed lol.
so yeah, i think they talk about anything and everything.

i had a bit of a meltdown about this last night and honestly i’m not sure i know how to articulate how grateful i am in the light of day either but … i’ll try.
tts is such an incredibly personal story for me. writing it and sharing it with people was kind of like cracking myself open and saying: here, come have a look. it was incredibly vulnerable and scary. i don’t think there are words for me to express what it’s meant to me, to have it be received with so much warmth and enthusiasm. every single one of those hits, every single comment, every message i’ve gotten on here about it… they all feel like a tight tight hug. you know the kind where you hide your face in someone’s neck and they rub your back a little and neither one of you want to let go? it’s a little bit like that and it’s incredible. while it does feel a bit weird to make posts sharing those kind of milestones (like who does she think she is bragging about her ao3 stats like this UGH), it would feel even weirder not to acknowledge it because i’m so so moved and overwhelmed and grateful. so if you’re one of those little hits (or more than one lmao), all i can say is thank you. you’ve really taught me that what i write can have profound meaning and that i’m capable of more than i thought i could with my words. and that’s fucking priceless ❤️

Hey! I saw the Star Trek Shatner post your Reblogged and your response, I’m a younger fan but I wanted to look up the info you said to talk about the guy but I can’t find anything online. You said it has it in some books, do you remember which ones??
Hi there! Always happy to meet more Trek fans!
Okay so you gotta understand these three books I'm thinking of were written in the 1980s so I don't even know if they're in print any more, and I don't even own two of them and the third is in storage so if I get any of these titles wrong I am very sorry!
The one I'm most sure of is Where No Man Has Gone Before: The True Story Behind The Making of Star Trek. It has interviews with a lot of people who have died and/or fallen out of the public consciousness in it, stories about the constant ego war between Shatner and Roddenberry (who was just as much of an arsehole in his way, but to his credit he was an arsehole who genuinely believed in a better future), a lot of paperwork that's been destroyed or lost since - like the horrendous lyrics Roddenberry created to get royalties to the theme which is a whole other wild story - and a metric buttload of great behind the scenes photos. I'd say it's probably the best reference for the original series if you can find a copy.
Book 2 is New Journeys or something similar, and is about the aborted sequel to TOS that was eventually partially turned into The Motion Picture and partially into scripts for TNG. It talks a lot about the behind the scenes conflicts between Shatner and Nimoy - pretty much entirely due to Shatner's increasingly inflated ego. Sadly it stops before the really crazy shit that happened behind the scenes in Generations happened.
Book 3 is I think Star Trek: Generations with a subtitle of The Making of the Movie or something very close to it. It talks a LOT about Shatner's meltdown over Nimoy getting a better role and the sheer rudeness that led to Spock not turning up in the film despite being undeniably THE favourite TOS character by then.
I hope this helps a bit! Once I get my books out of storage I'll see if I can find what I have left from the great pre-move purge and let everyone know what's in them!

ever noticed how, as a society, we went from completely ignoring mental health issues to only considering it as a good answer?
Let's be more specific. Today, I woke up to find my dash full of posts about some shooting in Texas, which of course is a tragedy, but which is litteraly more than an ocean away from me and I don't feel too concerned. My country has problems too, which are closer to me and so I feel more concerned about those. Also, I have the weakness to consider Tumblr as the place I go to find nice memes, shit posts and all that will make me smile and or laugh and that's about it.
Now, tho, if people asked me why I didn't repost or liked or anything any of the posts about Uvalde (or whatever the name, sorry, I'm kinda diagonally reading those) there would be three possible answers to that, and that would give me three different reactions.
The first would be to say I don't really care. Don't get me wrong, it's awful to have children die, and furthermore in a country supposedly at peace (I mean if they died in Irak, Ukraine or Serbia, it would be equally awful but it would not be a big surprise, there's a war there and war means civilian casualties) and even more so at school. But a dozen kids I don't know died in a country I don't really care about, well as sad as it is for them, I reserve to myself the right to not care much. I can't do any difference in it (not american, so can't even vote for anything concerning that issue).
It's very telling that I couldn't just say I didn't care, I had to justify and attenue my words for a dozen lines. Because that first option, just telling the truth, will get me a side eye by everyone and people will judge me and call me names, probably.
The second option would be to deflect the question. I still don't care but what I'm telling is that I try to have a neutral dash, to have a blog centered on nerdiness, geekness and headcannons, and I don't want to make it look weird by having posts about a real-life shooting in it. I can even take the opposite side and say that as long as people just get into complaining or thoughts&prayersing, but do nothing, I won't acknowledge the posts because it's hypocritical and a dead-end, and I prefer to invest my time in real life politics to change things rather than parade in the social medias.
Now the third option would be to lie, like, big time. To involve mental issues. To talk about my family's past as soldiers or prisonners of war and add something about them having ptsd, to say I don't want to burden my ptsd-having followers with such crude imagery (like I would know if they do, I'm not cosy enough with them to discuss that sort of things). To pretend I'm doing it for the sake of mentally-unwell people, or even for myself, I can pretend I'm a 43 years old vet who just stepped back from active duty because of my ptsd, that I don't want to get involved in posts talking about gun violence, or that my little brother died in a school shooting in the 90's and I don't want to go in a panic attack because of the flashbacks the posts are throwing in.
And then everybody will just shut up, they will shower me with excuses about asking, with apologetic behaviours, they will probably send me messages wishing me well, they will stop talking about that in front of me if they know me in real life...
And yet whether we have mental issues or not, don't we have the right to just... not be interested in actuality and not want to reblog all the thoughts and prayers around at every tragedy. The right to not want to reblog political or awareness posts because we don't agree with each of the sentences, or because we just don't care about the subject, or because we don't want to react in the heat of the moment and regret it far, far later?
So, why is it that if I tell my friends I don't want to watch a horror movie containing incest or cannibalism, they'll try to persuade me anyway, but if I tell them I have a trigger regarding either, they'll stop right on track and find another movie? (apart from them being bad friends) Why do we have to bring in our (real or invented for the occasion) health issues in the balance to have any weight, any right to our own decisions?

to the left we have THE DEFENDER OF TOMORROW (superman type, piltover aligned, Representing The Hope of the Nation, very blatantly introduced as the strong boastful charming american man with the big hammer) and to the right we have THAT ONE CREEPY GUY WITH THE RUSSIAN ACCENT AND THE DEATH LASER (zaun aligned, cartoonishly 'evil' inhuman antag, whose 'evil plan' involves the conversion and later sublimation of the masses into his ~alienating personal ideology~, oh hey look its literally just the scary communist russian boogeyman that has come to take over america story but we made him a robot that wants to make more robots this time or something.)
My bullshit meter is probably hyper-sensitive by this point because I've been deeply into cape comics and it is such... a prevalent old ass shorthand there lmfao. Legitimately too many to count. The consequences of it being So Old is that we get the dissemination of these archetypes into all sorts of shit; there's hundreds of books movies tv shows etc that utilize this kind of 'antagonist building' to quickly signify which guy you should mistrust bc he sounds 'vaguely immoral communist-russian' and which guy you should root for because 'HE FIGHTS FOR LIBERTY AND PROGRESS AND THE GOOD-NATURED AMERICAN DREAM,' and that's just like. c'mon man. (IIRC during jayce's initial release this dynamic was *already* seen as a concern/problem or in the very least Cringe and people spoke up to have it tweaked, and later during the massive lore overhaul when jayce's first new stories came out talking about viktor doing 'amoral' 'experiments' the same red flags popped up again)
For the sake of comparison: OG viktor can be summarized with "russian grad student goes insane after his work is stolen, locks himself in room, comes out of it a mechanical beast with warped ideals" while OG jayce is "good-hearted american piltovan boy is offered a deal with the devil (viktor)! He rejects it, but the villain steals his crystal! what he doesn't expect is for the boy to teach him a lesson! (everybody claps)" and that was it. They didn't have a big buildup or anything, viktor just showed up in full mecharegalia one day and said 'hey i need that crystal for my crazy experiments' and then jayce beat his ass.
Their settled lore rework has made them a lot more nuanced and palatable as full-fledged characters in my opinion, mainly that by making jayce into the star studded fuck-up and viktor into the guy you're at least inclined to feel sorry for (and by giving them an actual years-long connection) you drum up empathy and tend to think of them as people.
Arcane is... look opinions get really heated here because it's new, and people are allowed to be attached to previous versions of characters, but since i tend to look at it as a movie adaptation set into it's own universe (because it is) i'm mostly just going like heyyyy this looks cool i like this they're nice and touchy feely and doing intricate rituals :) ! yay !
But say you're a casual player in 2012 and you're Not Fucking Reading Bullshit Character Bios; all you know is that shitty knock-off captain america and shitty knock-off red skull are duking it out on the middle of league of legends and you think it's funny because hey, you know these guys! you know this story! 'haha. nice.' you say. tale as old as time. That was the intended vibe.
anyway, what matters is that the internet loves gay little communist bitches these days, and they're most definitely eroding jayce's pure-hearted american goals. life comes at you fast
