I’m still not over it

I don’t normally make personal posts but I wanted to share with you guys a little about why this Red White and Royal Blue movie means so much to me.

When I was a kid, one of my favorite books was Ella Enchanted. It remains to this day one of the few truly original adaptations of Cinderella that I’ve ever seen.

When Ella was born, she was given the “gift “of obedience. She had to obey any order she was given. She had no choice. Despite this (or because of it) she was a badass bitch who took no shit from anyone.

It is a beautiful tale of overcoming every single insane obstacle that is thrown your way, and relying on yourself to make it through all kinds of bullshit. It was a huge inspiration for me as a kid. I didn’t have a lot of strong female role models in my life and Ella “the ogre tamer” was a great source of comfort for me.

True to form, this is a story about falling in love with a prince, yes, but that’s just a subplot. The full story is about a truly unstoppable girl who saved the day time and again, even when no one else knew about it. It’s such a beautiful story. I highly recommend reading it. (It’s a kid’s book, you could read it in an hour, but it’s so worth it).

In the early 2000s I heard that they were going to make a movie based on Ella Enchanted and at first I was so excited. But the more I heard about it, the more scared I became. When I finally saw it, I was heartbroken.

The movie completely gutted the book. It destroyed the entire plot. instead of the story centering around Ella‘s internal conflict and how she survived through insane circumstances, they:

1. Killed off the Prince’s parents and invented a brand new character In the form of a conniving uncle and a talking snake (yes really) who wanted to take over the fucking kingdom because of course he did

2. Created a fucking prince fan club for some dumbass reason

3. Turned the “friends to lovers” subplot into an “enemies to lovers” plot. Because drama.

4. Do not get me started on what they did to the magical creatures.

They took this book that meant so much to me and these characters who were so inspiring and they obliterated the entire fucking thing. What was left was all the worst caricatures of fairy tales. It was insulting. And it still upsets me.

Ever since then, whenever I hear they’re going to adapt a book into a movie, I'm instantly on edge, braced for the worst. But every little detail that I have learned about RWRB has exceeded my expectations. And then the trailer came out.

I can tell, from just those two minutes alone (and the countless interviews, etc I have read by this point) that they are staying true to the book. They are honoring the source material. Some details have been changed, some subplots and characters have been omitted, yes, but the very heart of the story has remained.

They’re not killing off any parents and throwing some random ass uncle in there with magical powers and a talking snake to take over a kingdom.

They’re not taking a normal ass story and throwing in a fucking screaming fan club for no fucking reason.

Every single interview that I have read and every detail that I have learned about this movie only further proves the level of care and dedication they all have to the actual source material.

This is unprecedented to me.

I’ve never been so excited for a movie adaptation because I’ve never in my life heard of an adaptation of a book that remained this faithful to the source material (The sole exception now being heartstopper).

Love it or hate it, Red White and Royal Blue Will be a faithful adaptation of the book it is based on. And that is not something I will ever, ever take for granted.

currently watching 3b (s3 e19, letharia vulpina for anyone who cares) and it just struck me that Derek explicitly tells Chris that he won’t go out of his way to save him when they’re sitting in the sheriff’s office, before IMMEDIATELY going out of his way to break the cuffs and throwing himself over Chris’s body when the bomb goes off

like, spoiler, but I don’t really have a point to this post other than to say that Derek Hale is willing to go out of his way to protect Chris Argent, of the same Argents who killed his entire family, and then tried to kill his little pack for a second time. I just. He’s got a heart of gold and he cares so much and I just love that about him.

I can pinpoint the moment that destroyed my life today:

It’s been a handful of weeks since Murderbot came within inches of having a new, organic governor module implanted in its head via infection - do you think, maybe, that’s also been hiding behind the redacted? Not the way everything else is, just as a deep-seated reminder of what it can’t afford to lose?

DPXDC Prompt #105

Danny knew he wasn’t from this dimension. He wasn’t sure how he knew but it was something that he felt deep in his core that was true. Something’s just didn’t feel right sometimes and it also felt like the things that were happening were off or wrong somehow. His parents on his 15th birthday came out to tell him that he was adopted and that just cemented the feeling that he wasn’t from here. He goes to Ghost Writers library to look for anything that could help him and he finds a summoning request, basically you can request that someone summons you as long as you’ve got a vague idea of who it is. Danny asks to be summoned by his birth father.

Pick anyone from DC to be his dad but ima go with Batman for this example just because it’s Bruce LMAO. Batman suddenly gets a piece of paper that requests him summon the Ghost King and while everyone is terrified about what such an entity want’s especially since it’s Batman. Everyone is further confused when a teen gets summoned and looks around the room at all the superheroes in awe.

the last bits of 2023

#the last months I’ve mostly been busy with work but can say that I got through my first semester teaching successfully although struggled #along the way. my anxiety is at an all time high + I’m dealing with some medical stuff so I’m just trying to stayyy appreciative of every #day I feel good u kno. ugh.#I’m working on quitting my excessive weed usage lol. otherwise working out and doing pole when I can.#and watching lots of movies and doing lots of art . at least this past week since school is out #personal

This little scene came to me when I was sleep deprived lol some established relationship fluff

"Tell me your deepest, darkest fear," Eddie says.

Steve glances sidelong at him where he's sitting next to Steve on the couch. He doesn't ask what kind of question is that because it's very much an Eddie kind of question. Instead, he says, "Kind of already lived most of them."

"What about the ones you haven't lived?"

"I—" Steve sighs. If he tells Eddie to drop it, he will. Or he could say something about zombies or ghosts or some shit. But he finds himself saying, "Sometimes I think I'm either too much or not enough, you know?" A beat and then: "I mean, in relationships or whatever."

"Even with me?"

And, okay, Steve didn't think that through. He shrugs and says, "Maybe."

"Then your fear is totally unfounded."

Steve looks at Eddie again. "Is it?"

"Yeah, of course. You are just right." Eddie grins. "Not too hot, not too cold," he adds as he gets up on his knees on the couch, then swings one leg over Steve. "Okay, bad analogy, because you are definitely too hot for your own good sometimes." He rests his hands on Steve's shoulders, moves them around to loop behind his neck. "But you're my bowl of porridge.”

"I'm your bowl of porridge?"

"Yeah, you know, goldilocks and the bowls of porridge and—"

"Oh, I got it." Steve smiles, then lets his head rest against Eddie's chest. "Bowl of porridge," he mutters. "You're a dork."

"Hey." Eddie shoves Steve lightly. "I'm being romantic. I think."

"Then you're a romantic dork."

Eddie pokes his tongue out. Steve does it back. Eddie shakes his head and says, "I just... I meant, you're not... You're exactly enough for me. Okay?"

"Okay."

Eddie's eyes narrow. "You believe me, right?"

"I believe you." Steve holds up his hand in a scout salute. "Scout's honor."

"Good." Eddie gently nudges Steve's forehead with his. "Because you're... You're the only one who's right for me."

"So are you," Steve says.

"Yeah?"

"Of course." Steve grins. “You're my bowl of porridge, too."

I find the bit in the malt shop in episode one so telling, with Crystal being so unsettled and insecure about the group of girls staring at her. Like without her memories of being mean and powerful (especially over other girls) she just reverts into making herself small and trying to hide from them

I think it’s another moment that highlights how her past cruelty is so rooted in self defense / hiding and overcompensating for her insecurity. She’s scared of being bullied and belittled and outcast, so (when she had her memories) she did everything she could to make sure she had the upper hand and the control so that wouldn’t happen

But it’s less about getting pleasure from hurting other people and more about keeping herself from being hurt—even when that means hurting others first

hey y’all!

so i’ve been considering this a lot in the past few weeks, and figured i’d make an official post so you all know i’m alive and what not since i have been very much inactive as of recently.

i’m taking a break.

not forever! not because of anything in the fandom! this break is solely due to personal life reasons and the fact i just can’t be as active on here right now between my jobs and personal affairs. and it also won’t be long — i’m going to be off here probably through the end of november. if i have the time/mental capacity to come back before then, i absolutely will 🖤 but right now, tumblr isn’t something that fits easily within my days and also, writing for my fics hasn’t been something i can easily do not due to lack of inspiration but lack of time.

again, this is just due to my own personal life currently. nothing happened in the fandom that motivated this decision (i honestly don’t even know what’s happening on here currently solely because i haven’t had the time to scroll lol) and it’s very much not permanent, and will HOPEFULLY be very short. like i said, until the end of november. i’ll still be writing in my free time, and my hope is to be able to update fics once i’m back and worse better than ever! 🖤

Me, praying: if I’m being called by a deity, I’m so sorry but I have a long history of being oblivious/in denial. I’m inviting you to be as bold as you have to be to get my attention.

This bird showing up on my path to campus:

Me: wow I’ve never seen that type of bird before, usually birds this big don’t show up in the city streets unless they’re those ducks at the park.

Also me: I know I just asked for signs, but this probably doesn’t mean anything, I’ll hold off blogging about it too. (I’d started drafting a post about it potentially being a sign, but ended up deleting it.)

I get to where I’m heading and-

Me: someone was probably feeding them. Its funny that they’re all gathered there though.

And then on the walk back

My friend has informed me that these are juvenile southern black backed gulls, also called kelp gulls. Apparently they’re considered pests, so ofc I adore them unconditionally.

I’m so damn tired

#when I first started working whre I do I made the mistake of being reliable and efficient #and ever since then any work that needed to be done fast/that others didn’t want to learn was put on me #and it’s especially bad with one coworker who’s beena senior for years who kept delegating a lot of his tasks over to me #and I got super annoyed last week and then we had a chat about it #and he started started saying that I need to be more patient #and when I gave him feedback about his work ethics back he said ‘but I’m old I can’t learn new things’#💀#he also keeps saying that I need to learn to talk these things through with ppl (because I complained to my art dir rather than to him)#but then any work that requires collaboration with another department he always delegates to me #like I’ve never in my life seen him talk with ppl outside the 3d art team #it’s so tiring every time we’re on thr same project it feels like I’m doing work for two people 💀
