I’m writing a MarcSteven nutcracker au and I have a really dumb question that I’m going to open to the public because the internet is not helping me and while it may be a dumb question, I also don’t want to get it wrong so,
Are you allowed to display things beside a menorah, or does it have to be displayed on it’s own? And, follow up, can you put a nutcracker next to a menorah?

Well Drawfee is officially no longer safe media for me :(
Karina liked multiple tweets conflating a PSA for antisemitism with Israeli propaganda and claiming that Israel planned its assault to coincide with the superbowl…
Julia liked posts claiming that the war isn’t a war. Nobody has liked anything about antisemitism or even acknowledging Jews are in danger right now.
TBH I’m devastated.
I have Drawfee art all over my home. I was actually gonna become a patron this year. I’d literally been saving to make it feasible. This is crushing. I feel sick.
#leftist antisemitism#antisemitism#drawfee#heartbroken#debated putting this in the Drawfee tag or not#but ultimately I think it’s important#I don’t wanna start fandom drama or Discourse TM#I just want there to be a record of how their silence on antisemitism#and liking of conspiratorial tweets#is affecting a very fragile community#and Nathan being Jewish doesn’t change this for me#his Jewishness does not shield me from his coworkers antisemitism#even though I wanna believe that antisemitism is unintentional#and I’m so happy for Nathan if he feels supported by his friends and coworkers#he obviously knows them better than I ever will#and I’m not calling in Jews to take sides over this or anything#I’m happy that Nathan doesn’t seem to be affected by this#it must mean he has a wonderful support system and that his friends and coworkers are better#at showing their support irl than they are online#and that is important and valid#but it doesn’t change how it affects Jews like me who only experience them through a screen#and do not have a support system#they don’t owe me anything#I don’t expect anything from any of them#but I also cannot deny that I am harmed#by the fact that they didn’t acknowledge the conflict until it affected people who aren’t Jewish#and have still not acknowledged that it affects people who are Jewish#and I especially cannot handle Karina’s clear support for the idea that a Super Bowl PSA for antisemitism prevention#is somehow a sinister Israeli plot and not evidence of the terrible time that Jews like me are having rn#I feel like I lost a friend tbh

Yeah, I give up. I’m gonna continue posting about Jew hatred because I both like analysing these things and I need a place to vent, but I just want everyone to know that I don’t believe there’s ever going to be any improvement. It’s been five months, the online equivalent of a century, and everyone’s only become more radicalised against Jews. A big section of them are just outright saying it’s Jews too. I have no faith that things will ever get better, I have no faith that these people will ever not hate Jews, I have no faith in the world protecting us. I’m done trying to explain anything. I’m done dressing up my words and begging people to please not hate us. I’m done acting like things are going to be okay. I’m just done.

I know it’s social media and everything? but I do kind of wish that there could be a little nuance around how maybe not every single person in Israel* wants to indiscriminately carpet bomb innocent people in Gaza, and also how maybe not every single person wishing to escape Israeli occupation would like to obliterate their Jewish neighbors, and that the violent deaths of thousands, whether at the hands of terrorists or of right-wing ideologues, is always a fucking tragedy — and that what’s happening right now is a terrible confluence of mismanagement, disinformation, racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and thousands of years of epigenetic trauma, and that it therefore maybe shouldn’t be treated as a zero-sum sportsball game where you can only offer your compassion to one group of people or another as the progressive people of the world all bite each others’ heads off in an ouroboros of virtue-signaling.

how come nearly every popular artist on here makes kyle’s nose cover up 99.99% of his face? like…you can literally see in post covid his nose isn’t as big as the fanarts make it out to be. plus sheila says he’s got her nose and her nose isn’t that big. i just hate that a lot of fanart involves kyle with such a big nose. i feel like the sole reason for that is because he’s jewish, but i kinda don’t wanna assume? even though i’m fairly confident that’s the reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at his nose. it’s not that big. and i doubt in his teenage years it would magically grow and then shrink. that’s not how it works. i’m so tired of seeing the ‘oH hEs AgEd uP’ excuse. This is canon.
even sheila like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
her nose isn’t that big!
it’s just so annoying to see popular artists draw stan, cartman and kenny with normal noses and then they draw kyle looking like a plague doctor. and then when anyone points it out the artists claims they’re being mean like…no?
also whenever a fan artist draws his nose the way it’s drawn in pc it’s suddenly offensive. like i dunno, i can’t speak on this, im not jewish, but i feel like drawing a jewish character with a significantly larger nose than his peers would be more offensive than giving him an equal sized nose in comparison to the rest of his friends.

If I’m being honest, one of the biggest reasons I’m not talking about my conversion on my main blog is that I’m scared I’ll be forced to face friends and mutuals turning on me. I’ve already lost one friend because I tried to tell her that some of the pro-Palestine posts she’d reblogged had dogwhistles, and I’m pretty sure that one blog that very briefly followed me back unfollowed because of a post I reblogged about Jews being frustrated that the left isn’t believing us about the rise of antisemitic violence.
Like- I’ve seen this happen to other Jewish users, and I’m so scared that people who I consider friends and moots will turn on me.

i keep seeing “it doesn’t matter if this post about anti semitism was made by a zionist, it’s still relevant” and i think this is a really deranged thing to say, but it’s a deranged thing that happens all the time so i guess it makes sense that people keep saying it. like, this was also a discussion when the crypto terf thing started going off, where people would say “it doesn’t matter if the op is a transmisogynist it’s a good post” but the op is specifically including trans women in their argument about male privilege which means their fundamental argument is incorrect and at odds with any and all feminist discussion!!! the same way that like, it doesn’t actually matter whether jackson hinkle is making a good point about palestine or not, he’s a far right anti semitic pos grifter and we should be blocking him any time he tries to engage because his fundamental argument is not “palestinians deserve a right to life, dignity, self determination, return, and safety” his argument is “the jews are controlling the media” a zionist will follow up their post about anti semitism with some shit like “i mean these leftists get mad when you call it the israel hamas WAR instead of a genocide, bc they’re anti semitic” while pictures of mutilated children’s corpses are being blasted all over my twitter feed. yes objectively anti semitism is on the rise, but that doesn’t mean you start platforming genocide deniers, sorry. there are plenty of people who don’t like, straight up refer to palestinians as rats that you can reference when discussing the rise in hate crimes!!

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet, but as I caught myself doing it, I realized it was very likely a good chunk of others are also - I think having the racist parts included in the poll is going to heavily skew the data anyway because people will, very likely, not feel able to vote for something racist in good conscience, and so the votes the racist screams would have gotten if they weren't racist are lost, thus making the data unusable due to personal bias. not even considering the number of people abstaining completely, dropping the pool of data further! I'm not aware if this has been broached yet, but I think it's definitely worth noting that the data for the racist clips will always be untrustworthy, even if the scream itself is good. On top of all of the other reasons why they should be omitted ofc!
GOD YEAH. i feel so dumb going “🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 well gee you make a good point there 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔” all contemplatively because i’m realizing that was my intent too, in that “well hopefully they’ll whittle down as the rounds go further and further” has been constantly harping on my mind. but that absolutely feeds into everything you laid out too, which, again, i DEEPLY appreciate.
i’ll be doing that, then, in that i think it’s the safest and SMARTEST course of action. it’s likewise been pointed out that the setting is a little different here than if i were doing one of my analyses, in that i’m still making it available to vote for one of those options, and that interactive element innately delegitimizes the harm/makes light of it under the guise of a poll.
i was conflating that perspective with my analyses, which IS often a more objective presentation of “okay: this is it. here is the historical context. here is how a more modern perspective impacts how it currently stands” and forgetting that polls are polls. you’re voting on them. they’re going to get spread around and viewed as a game. and they are! and i was viewing the polls from the same archivist lens as the rest of my blog, when, due to the intrinsic nature of how these polls works, you can’t really do that. it’s not the same presentation. i do view this as a historical archival of the progression of these cartoons, how Mel Blanc’s voice changes and adapts through voice direction and even the impact of history on these shorts (like, the shorts made during the WWII years are much more energetic than the domesticity of the post-war cartoons. there’s more yelling to be found in the WWII era shorts for that reason) and i was getting too lost in that and sticking to my guns of “all of this is history and deserves to be acknowledged and accounted for fairly, if/especially describing how well or poorly something has aged, otherwise it’s not history” and that doesn’t… really… work… for these polls.
i can’t believe it’s taken weeks for me to come to this realization and again, i sincerely thank you and everyone else who has called me out on this or offered other means of perspective. it was pure ignorance on my behalf, and i do want to make it known that it was never my intention to perpetuate these stereotypes and caricatures further nor harm anyone. but, obviously, prefacing it with “my intentions were good!” doesn’t negate the very real and serious harm these caricatures and i myself have caused by spreading them in such a leisurely context (or lack thereof).
as mentioned before, i take the safety and comfort of my followers and readers incredibly seriously, ESPECIALLY with the nature of these cartoons. and it’s exactly why i’m so adamant about asking people (such as yourself) to speak up and call me out, let me know what i’ve done wrong, so i can apologize, take accountability, and move forward. those disclaimers aren’t a way to avoid accountability or make it seem like i have a free pass to discuss racism. i really do mean them with every ounce of my heart, so i deeply, deeply, deeply appreciate people such as yourself acting out on those messages. thank you.
i will be excising any future deplorable examples that come up (that, thankfully, have been very few and far between, i’m up to 1948 in logging these and have “only” run into 2 that would apply) and am just going to cut any of the winners out that survived and are going into Round 2. it’s not worth it. none of it has been, but definitely, if i’m constantly thinking to myself “it’ll whittle down!” then maybe we ought to restructure our thinking now haven’t we. funny how that works.
thank you again and my deepest and most sincere apologies. i feel like a complete and utter heel for my negligence—especially because the gut instinct of “just don’t put them in there” was there all along. but, again! these exact situations are why i stress the importance of calling me out on my BS. i’m likewise deeply aware of literally just how silly this entire thing sounds, because none of this should have ever been a problem because i just shouldn’t have included them in the first place! but i did, and i take full accountability, and the harm has already been done. so i just ask and thank you for your patience, understanding and forgiveness, but completely understand that nobody—especially those harmed by my ignorance—is entitled to give it to me.
nobody ever deserves to be confronted nor harmed with such egregious stereotypes, even/especially if said stereotypes are peddled under the guise of objectivity or historical preservation. a poll is not a history site. likewise, nobody deserves to be alienated over cartoons. i post what i post because i want to share the same overflowing love and passion and joy i feel for animation history with others. i love learning new factoids. i love being educated. i love feeling like i’m learning, like i’m indulging in an intimate slice of life from a bygone era. i want to share that same love and passion and joy to my followers. i’m here to make people laugh and to make people smile. i’m here to remind people of long buried memories, or to inspire them to make new ones and investigate these cartoons themselves. i’m here to preserve the history of these cartoons within their proper contexts, and do what i can to ensure i’m doing that safely and smartly and in a way that benefits everyone. and i’m not going to accomplish any of that by slipping needlessly horrendous caricatures in something as inconsequential as a poll on which clip sounds funnier or more impressive or whatever and causing the harm.
so, sincerely, thank you.

Not to be like, a bitch and make callout posts (I don’t really think that is what this is, I’m mostly just complaining and considering I’m complaining on an entirely different platform she probably won’t see… Eh. Also I like being a shit stirrer sometimes.)
So, there’s this tiktoker I followed, BeckTheFeministLawyer, who recently made a video praising the Satanic Temple in Tennessee for starting an after school program in contrast of some Christian after school programs, which is awesome, we love that. 100% on board so far. The Satanic Temple is really cool for doing shit like that. But, then she starts talking about how “all religions are cults—yes, even yours” and immediately alarm bells are going off. She then talked about how any organization that demands your blind faith is a cult, and bad. People who think that way simply don’t sit right with me, especially given the fact that claiming Judaism is a cult is like, historically an antisemitic thing iirc. So, hoping to have a somewhat constructive conversation because she hasn’t said anything overtly inflammatory yet, I make a comment.
(I will provide screenshots at the end, but because TT is the way it is, it doesn’t display comments in chronological order, so I’m going to put a transcript here.)
My first comment read: A huge part of a lot of Jewish practices is questioning God.
She responds: Agreed, however- that god is said to be in control and working within a divine plan that faith demands you don’t question.
Me: That suggests you don’t agree, then. I would encourage you to look into why insinuating Judaism is a cult is antisemitic.
Her: I’m anti-religion generally.
Me (this comment was broken into two parts due to the character limit): And that’s fine. But especially now, with everything going on, checking antisemitism is very important. I realize your video isn’t about Palestine, but being that it’s the main topic on everyone’s minds right now, it’s important we all make sure we aren’t adding fuel to a related fire that’s bad for everyone.
Her: I hear your point and you’re barking up the wrong tree on that.
Me (again, split for character count): Respectfully, what do you mean by that? I am not asking you to abandon your beliefs, only reflect on how you might inadvertently be upholding a system of oppression that has affected an entire ethno-religious group for millennia.
Her: Cool.
At this point I drop it because, like, it’s the internet and I know it’s not going anywhere from there. But… yikes, lady, could you be any more clear in your antisemitism? And that doesn’t even get into how she probably feels about like, Islam or more insular cultural practices. Anyway. Here are the screencaps, under the cut bc I don’t wanna take up any more of your dashboard:

I also resent that person’s implication that I am either genocidal or self centered or overly sentimental.
I have repeatedly advocated for peace.
I have repeatedly tried to meet people where they are and to share resources to help Palestinians and to demonstrate interfaith solidarity.
I have contextualized fear of antisemitic violence in statistics and cultural context and avoided laying blame on any one group of people.
But I guess I’m fundamentally invalid because I’ve used the jumblr tag to find a shred of fucking community.
