These are all the shows I’ve watched in 2023 so far...
finished:
Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow - Fantastic finish to the story! Top 3 Kdrama.
Unlock My Boss - Chae Jong Hyeop shines as an aspiring actor who winds up taking the roll of a lifetime as the new CEO of a tech company when the soul of the previous CEO gets stuck inside his phone. Wild concept but fun found family, corporate intrigue, and a sweet little romance that brews between the young new CEO and his assistant.
The Forbidden Marriage - Top 5 Kdrama. If you want romance, comedy, angst, and alot of love, this is your show. I had so much fun and was rewatching while it was airing.
King2Hearts - An unlikely romance sparks between a South Korean prince and a top North Korean (female) soldier leads to potential reconciliation between their two countries that is threatened by a crazy arms dealer whose cover is a magician. This a James Bond inspired, enemies to lovers, family dynasty, international war games drama. The unhinged villain has his own lair and minions but the only one who can match his off kilter mind games is the wily prince, who is equal parts smart, asshole, and lovable. The North Korean soldier is one of the only one’s who can go toe-to-toe with the prince to eventually bring out the best in him as they fall in love that is literally ride or die. There’s also a secondary romance with the princess and a royal guard. I loved parts of this and liked the rest.
Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist (S1 & S2) - I’m a big Kim Min Jae fan. He shines as a medical doctor who experiences trauma that drives him to suicide. He is saved by a passing noble woman and a short while later he saves her from suicide due to her own trauma. Both of them end up working at a rural clinic with another exiled doctor to treat the locals physical needs but also begin a new practice to treat people’s mental health needs as they try to recover from their own traumas. I loved S1 but S2 brought on some annoying new antagonistic love interests. It is a happy ending though.
Lighter & Princess - A poor computer programing genius clashes with an ambitious rich girl in his college classes but sparks fly when they vie for control of the school’s entrepreneurial programming club leading to unlikely but hard won romance. This was excellent.
Love to Hate You - A brash entertainment lawyer gets entangled with a romance actor who keeps his distance from women due to a trauma. A bit over the top, lots of role reversals but also fun. I liked it but didn’t love it.
A Very Secret Service (Au Service De La France) - This a dry, witty French comedy about espionage and spies in the 1960s. Quirky and enjoyable with good character development.
Taxi Driver (S1 & S2) - Lee Je Hoon leads this team of vigilantes who try to root out the evils of society for individuals in crisis that they were never able to do for themselves. The cases are mostly based on real life events. Violent, emotional, satisfying. I love this found family.
Crash Course in Romance - A beloved, handsome math academy professor falls for the single mother of one of his students leading to an uproar amongst the parents. There’s a cute love triangle with the daughter and her classmates (I’m Team Geonhu) and a unsatisfying serial killer plotline.
Gaus Electronics - This is an over the top, quirky, office comedy. It’s so crazy, especially at the beginning, that it’s almost too much but it’s smart and fun with an unlikely enemies to lovers romance that is quite sweet.
The Heavenly Idol - A high priest from another realm in the middle of a battle with the devil unexpectedly switches places with a failed idol grasping for his last chance at success. Kim Min Kyu is a great fish out of water but the story is a bit all over the place. I like his sweet healing romance with the band’s new manager though.
The King: Eternal Monarch - Parallel worlds, time travel, doppelgängers. Lee Min Ho, Kim Go Eun, Woo Do Hwan. There were some great concepts and good execution but it lacked the follow through to make it truly satisfying.
Dr. Romantic (S1, S2, & S3) - Top 10 Kdrama. A small town hospital where a visionary maverick doctor, Master Kim, mentors 30-something year old doctors with his unorthodox methods while they fall in love with each other. It has a huge found Doldam Family with the hospital workers of all ages and their complex relationships with each other. I love this show!
Our Blooming Youth - Park Hyung Shik leads this Joeson-era mystery romance. It’s okay but it’s too slow and doesn’t develop the characters enough. It should have been 16 episodes, not 20.
Call It Love - Introverted adults in their 30s try to overcome childhood trauma inflicted by their parents as they unwittingly fall in love while working together. This one is slower, complex and compelling. It’s one of my favorite dramas of 2023.
Please Don’t Date Him - I watched this solely for Lee Junyoung as a young firefigher who falls in love with a woman who works with A.I. in home appliances and stumbles upon a government spy program. It’s a light comedy if you’re looking for fluff.
Find Me in Your Memory - An actress who’s lost her memory and an anchorman who can never forget fall in love. I mainly watched this because of the actors cameo as these character in Sh**ting Stars. It was okay.
Healer - I know this is a fan fave but I liked it, didn’t love it.
Bora! Deborah (True to Love) - So much potential but a bit of a let down. I like both Yoo In Na and Yoon Hyun Min.
When the Weather is Fine - I was here for the small town romance with the local bookstore owner and the fun found family of their all ages book club. However, the last third of the story wallowed in the revealed family trauma too much and lost sight of everything else.
Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 - When this was on point, it was compelling, funny and so much darn fun! There was bromance, romance, adventure, healing, friendship, and battles both personal and national. It had some slow times but overall Lee Dong Wook was clearing having the time of his life and Kim Bum stole the show as Lee Rang came into his own.
Thirty But Seventeen - 10/10. Top 5 Kdrama. A teenage violinist gets into an accident and wakes up from her coma 13 year later to find the world vastly different. This was so much darn fun, great found family, cute romance, angst, and healing. Even when it was sad, I was so happy watching it. Shin Hye Sun, Yang Se Jong, and Ahn Hyo Seop are fantastic!
Something in the Rain -  I wanted so much to like noona romance with Son Ye Jin and Jung Hae In but man did it drag. Her mother is especially heinous. I completed it which was difficult.
See You in My 19th Life - I weirdly dislike-watched this in one weekend cause I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It was okay. There were some interesting things about it with the relationships and past lives stuff but not for me.
King the Land - Lee Junho acted his heart out in this fluffy romcom and Im Yoona was a worthy partner in crime. I came to have a good time and they gave it to me.
Heartbeat - Ok Taecyeon did a good job of carrying this unsteady vampire show that had some good moments but didn’t deliver on its premise.
Legend of the Blue Sea - I really do like Lee Min Ho. He has a casual charisma that is undeniable. Jun Ji Hyun was an excellent literal fish out of water. While I liked the intertwining of the past and present lives, the story never quite hit the mark for me. Liked it, didn’t love it.
Never Have I Ever (S4) - This show never let me down. A satisfying finale season!
Meteor Garden (2018) - I needed more Dylan Wang after Love Between Fairy and Devil. This was an unexpected crazy fun ride. It was so outrageous at times. It inspired me to one day watch all the adaptations of Boys Over Flowers, as I’ve already seen 3 now.
Hidden Love - A slow burn, age gap romance between a college girl and her older brother’s longtime friend. I really liked this but I wasn’t in love with it like everyone seems to be.
Nadiya’s Time to Eat - A fave Great British Bake Off winner’s cooking show. Inspiring.
Nadiya Bakes - And her baking show too.
Shadow and Bone (S2) - I think it improved on some things from the first season but they really crammed the second two books into one and some of Six of Crows too. Still a bit too fast-paced but I enjoyed it.
The Night Agent - An FBI agent gets an emergency call that starts a race to find a government mole and protect the informant. I binged this almost straight through. A good watch.
Queen Charlotte - This Bridgerton spinoff sheds light on royal power dynamics, mental illness, and social and racial divides.
LuLaRich - This is a compelling documentary on the rise and fall of Lularoe’s multi-level-marketing scheme. A must watch.
Sweet Magnolias (S3) - This is a comfort drama. I’m just here checking in to see how the little town is doing.
Star Trek: Picard (S3) - Showrunner Terry Matalas brings some of his 12 Monkeys (the tv series) magic to the final reuniting of the Next Generation cast while setting up a compelling potential Legacy spinoff.
My Lovely Liar - I enjoyed the romance between Hwang Minhyun and Kim So Hyun but the show itself is okay.
Destined With You - Magic, Curses, Past Lives, Symbolism, Spells, Fated Love. I thought it was going to be the next great fantasy romance but it chucked the fantasy halfway through and left a million unanswered questions at the end. At least we got a decent romance, even if the story lost its way. A big disappointment for me but I would recommend to see Rowoon acting his heart out in a cute romance.
The Uncanny Counter 2 - I was back to see the demon hunters fight for their humanity and loved ones again.
Celebrity - A solid takedown of influencer culture with mystery, intrigue, and a tiny bit of romance.
It’s Okay Not To Be Okay - I’ve been hearing about how good this drama is forever and it lived up to expectations. Great characters and development. I was surprised at how funny it was and enjoyed the romance too. Highly recommend.
True Beauty - This has been on my list for a long time and I needed more Cha Eun Woo while waiting for new episodes of A Good Day To Be A Dog. A great high school romcom with angst about a girl bullied for her acne getting a second chance at a new school who turns into a ‘goddess’ when she learns to do her own makeup. Love the romance, bromance and friendships! I love the second male lead as a character but never got second lead syndrome because I loved the main romance. I enjoyed the whole way through.
Beckham - A docuseries about soccer (football to the rest of the world) star David Beckham that made you feel like you had front row seat to his past triumphs and struggles through the reflective lens of the present.

the story of nara and jungkook is just like the classic cliché stories of the pretty girl getting with the nerdy boy except they don’t end up together in the end and the “pretty girl” is the villain of this story.
like in the books, these ‘arranged marriages’ are supposed to influence him to see the good in nara. maybe there’s a hobby she has that he can relate to or maybe her personality meshes with his but in reality, nara was nothing like the stories read in books.
nara is a rude, selfish, and arrogant woman born with a spoon made from the richest-most expensive gold with a personality that’s as humble as expired milk. the jang’s were looking for someone to humble their spoiled brat of a daughter while the jeon’s were looking for someone to toughen up their son but most of all, they were looking for money.
everything was planned out. the wedding, their finances, their jobs, everything. but it all came to an abrupt halt when jungkook stopped turning up to meet with the jang’s and a certain baby boy entered the picture.
to keep from slandering their expensive names, jungkook’s one-night mistake was sealed and kept hidden from both the public and their young daughter, nara, who assumed that jungkook has simply chickened out. young and in love, nara waited for the day to see her beloved again. despite her horrible personality, she believes jungkook is the water to her fire and when the opportunity presented itself to be close she had to take it.
but there’s one problem or rather two:
a 5 year-old boy and a 26 year-old you who jungkook is dating. as nara listens to jungkook brag about ‘his girlfriend’ and blocking her number, she doesn’t try to hide her irritation.
“acting all tough, huh? aren’t you forgetting what happened to you the last time you tried to step to me?”
the cuts…the tears…the blood…
“block me and you’re fired, jungkook. i called you in here because i need a date for a charity event this week and it’s going to be you” nara pauses. “if you don’t come with me as my date, i’ll inform your son’s school that you’re having an inappropriate relationship with his teacher. which is also your, quote, “girlfriend”
~🫧
Jungkook scoffs.
Does she still think that she can control him? Hurting him physically hurting herself physically doesn’t really bother him anymore.. once she mentions telling the school about your so-called inappropriate relationship? Jungkook immediately shuts his mouth.
How does she always manage to Find a way to manipulate him and blackmail him?
“So you know about my son? Good. Another reason why we cannot be together. And my girlfriend… I can do anything for her- I can do anything for my son and girlfriend. I love them the most in the world and you know I’ll come to dinner with you as your date.”
Jungkook is glaring at Nara. “you know what you’re good at? It’s ruining peoples life. If you hurt me, I’ll hurt you back worse. Stay away from my girlfriend and everything will be OK. And most importantly stay away from my Son.”
Then Jungkook just tries to gain his composure- no don’t get angry right now.
His anger is dangerous.
“I’m leaving.” He scoffs again before leaving to his office.
_____
Jungkooks not having a good day at all. The day in the office is as hectic as it can be. But eunwoo tries to make his day a little better.
6 hours pass by and he’s coming back from the office after trying his best to ignore his stupid boss. Just the thought of her makes his blood boil so much that is driving recklessly right now.
he can’t be together with you anymore. She will ruin your job. you will hate him forever for this-all of his dreams are ruined forever.
Soon he parks his car to the school parking and he goes inside, he needs to stay away from you until he figures something out and maybe this is gonna break your heart, but he’s just trying to protect you
He knows how passionate you are and he doesn’t want to rob his son, of this experience with you so you can’t be his girlfriend right now.
“Hi baby.” he greets his son who is standing in the schools hallway with you holding his finger. “ I hope he was good today and did not trouble you.” He asks you what is my face because you’re his dream that’s just been crushed right in front of his eyes
“OK sweetie come on. We have to go home now. Daddy has a lot of work to do.” Seol always reluctant to leave your side, but.. he obeys his daddy and so they’re both leaving the school and he doesn’t say anything to you.
It’s way better this way.
“Goodbye Ms yn.”

Day 30: Character Wishlist
1. Dr. Doofenshmirtz: ALSO putting doof on my list because i think having him on multiple lists really speaks for how much his ass needs to BE HERE. begging, pleading, down on my knees. look people, what do I need to do to convince someone to get Doofenshmirtz!! He’s literally the best cartoon dead known to humanity AND he’s a mad scientist. We could be the best of friends, chopping it up on the block. Talking about lab safety! Complaining about how hard it is to find a good lab assistant! I’m not Anya, I don’t have his daughter to entice you with, but I do have his predecessor in funny little cartoon scientists in a beloved children’s show. The point of a disneyrp is for the crossovers and this could be THE crossover.  AND if you use nick cage his could be us: https://thyla.tumblr.com/post/702286691264872448/pedrohub-the-unbearable-weight-of-massive-talent
2. Jackson Storm: i know he was voiced by armie hammer and that’s weird, but like pls. Join that Cars hive! I think he could be a fun addition. We’ve seen the mean girl trope before but let’s talk about a mean GUY! which….yeah we have also seen before, but since it’s being done for my personal benefit i think that’s totally fine and welcome and im giving you permission. I know the mean jock boy has plagued the world, but I ALSO KNOW that with the world that has been created here at swynrp, that the cliche could actually be fun instead of annoying.
3. Mike and Sully: putting them back on here because they have not left my mind since last year kids and at this point they probably never will. Only thing keeping me from getting one is that fact that they wouldn’t have their buddy and thankfully my brain won’t allow one to live while the other is not there.
4. Eda Clawthorne: The only thing keeping me from getting Eda at any given point is that I would love to write with her, but like I would also love to WRITE her and fjdskajfdksl it’s a very frustrating position to be in you know. She’s just such a good character!! I love her! She adopts people left and right! She’s funny! She’s powerful! She’s got a funny little demon deal to grapple with! Her sister is here!! AAGHH! Begging someone to get her before I give in besties.
5. Cruella de Vil: I just think she’s neat. And by neat I mean unhinged and possibly one of the worst Disney villains out there lmfao. but that’s what I like about her. I think more women should be able to be mean and evil and commit atrocities. We’ve had our time with the Order Boys (and knife girl) in the hunting ring, but I just think it’s time that a new villain clan takes the spotlight.
6. Arawn Prydain: ….that being said, I also think we need some less than nice sorcerers hanging around. There’s a few in the open characters tag, but since we’ve got Eilonwy and Taran hanging out I think Arawn would be a good addition to the ranks. Plus with all our #spooky gang characters, a baddie necromancer would be fun to see adding to the mix.
7. Granmamare: I think we should have more merfolk in GENERAL so I’m going to advocate for a QUEEN because, like, come on now, how fun is that. An ethereal lady wandering the town and trying to find like minded people to bring back home to run off the poachers? That’s a fun plot. I like it. I think she should be here, being everyone’s mom.
8. Scuttle: We’ve got a lot of business owners around town! Some new, some old, but who we do NOT have is the antique shop owner with all his little merfolk friends. I SIMPLY THINK it would be fun to have the kinda kooky, very fun, very well meaning, very bad singer, Scuttle come join us down in Swynlake Town. both because that’s my boss! he could have some really cool stories/shit to say about the stuff he sells! and another business owner to spice things up! what’s his perspective on everything? if he EVEN HAS ONE
9. Winnie the Pooh: I just think this one is really funny. COULD BE TRAGIC IDK, there’s always something a bit tragic about winnie the pooh but still. let’s get this cutie in here! a guy who used to be a literal stuffed animal?? must give the best hugs in town. and this town could use them. and if he doesn’t wear crop tops then idk maybe you shouldn’t be playing him actually. just a thought.
10. The Recess Gang: doing a 5 in 1! I really like the recess kids’ skeletons and think they should all be here, having a grand old time. Whether that be in secondary or even in the uni. There’s nothing like a core group of friends just making their way through life together despite the different paths that they came from to this point. They’re all different but that’s what makes their dynamic work baby!!

Do have any recommendations on Isekai based stories where the MC is actually smart? In practice I mean, not where we're simply informed that they're heralded as a one of kind prodigy due to their past experiences. Or maybe where the MC is smart in different ways? More emotionally, or simply politically? (I love Bakarina as much as the next person, but I'm talking about something that actually takes itself seriously from the beginning.)
Of course!
One of my favorites is Of course, I'll claim Palimony!, its not really isekai, it’s your typical villainess manga but where the villainess wasn’t even one to begin with, she uses the “prophecy” as it is called in the story to her advantage to make the most money out of it! She thinks more of money and is smarter in a business woman type of thing, ykno?
Another one is I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m going to keep the Last Boss, this one is isekai, I haven’t read it in a while and even though MC might be naive, her actions show otherwise, the same can be said about It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into The World of a Yandere Otome Game, which is similar to Bakarina, just add yanderes in the fit and a less naive guided MC. Both to me are smarter emotionally.
The Evil Lady Will Change, it doesn’t count as isekai either but in my opinion, Athanasia is such a smart girl without the need of knowing the future, and even though I dropped it after a while (because manhwa in general became boring to me) it has nice characters.
Also, my absolute favorite, The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion, I dont feel like I need to give an explanation as to why bUT I will explain it either way. You probably already know it or read it before, but Raeliana isn’t messing around, she’s likable, smart to her surroundings, and shows is both through her personality and actions. We don’t have to reduce her to a “well read” girl because she isn’t, unlike other mcs in manhwa she actually has common sense! She isn’t considered that special, she isn’t regarded as the best woman out there like other mcs do just because of the fact that she’s the mc. She actually puts in the effort in her actions and even when doing things that saved others’ lives she isn’t held on a pedestal because that is not realistic. Also Noah is a very very likable Male Lead and that is super rare with manhwas lately, he’s the “fuckboy i only care about you” type but done right.
Everyone has different tastes I know, and I’m probably recommending stuff you’ve already read, but to me these are the most likable mcs when it comes to intelligence.
Also, bonus:
I Want to Be You, Just For A Day (or Your Throne) and The Villainess Want to Marry a Commoner!!
They’re both really good, and while the first one is more of less romantic guided, the second one is just full of fluff. ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Do you love Audrey?
Would you have wanted her story to be more than Ben's ex-girlfriend and Mal's "romantic rival" (to whom the audience compares)?
If so, let me recommend you a manga:
Tumblr media
Akuyaku Reijou Nanode Rasubosu wo Katte Mimashita a.k.a. I’m a Villainous Daughter so I’m going to keep the Last Boss.
Funny and clever. It makes you wonder, as an audience, if what you are seeing is the true story because you have been all this time watching from the perspective of the protagonist. And perhaps, the villains are just victims of the plot.
It also fueled my Sea Three + Audrey vs. Auradon ideas.
But seriously, the personality of the protagonist of this manga made me think about Audrey and how hard it must have been for her to be Ben's girlfriend, the future queen of Auradon and suddenly lose everything.

Akuyaku Reijo Nanode Rasubosu o Katte Mimashita: A Review
By: Peggy Sue Wood | @peggyseditorial
In the ever-growing stock of isekai mangas featuring young women reborn in an otome game, what stands out to me about Akuyaku Reijo Nanode Rasubosu o Katte Mimashita is that Aileen/Irene (our main character) isn’t being given the full story of the game like her contemporaries. This is something her antagonist, and the game’s original protagonist, Lilia, seems to have gotten in full.
Irene hasn’t lived through the events transpiring before, and even though she played the game, the memories only quickly pop-up before the destruction flags are set to transpire, acting more like premonitions that give her a psychic step-up in the world rather than a guide book to follow.
The premonition-like feel to Irene's glimpses of her past game-play reminds me a bit of Higeki no Genkyou tonaru Saikyou Gedou Rasubosu Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu's Pryde, the MC of the work, who receives visions of her past life similar to Irene. However, the stories of these two characters, Pryde and Irene, are entirely different.
In Higeki no Genkyou tonaru Saikyou Gedou Rasubosu Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu, Pryde, is a bratty kid who gets an awful awakening of how her horrible behavior is leading her down a terrible path that she works to correct. Pryde's "premonitions" are given on a consistent basis. Her visions are also publically known and viewed as a prophetic power passed down in her family line. They, like Irene's visions, are also triggered by upcoming events, but unlike Irene's foresight, Pryde's troubles portrayed in each vision have semi-simple solutions. Solutions that can be summed up with "don't be an evil person."
A great example is Pryde's first meeting with her adopted brother Style, in which all she had to do was not trick him, a young child, into signing a modified contract that would turn him into a slave as well as not ordering him to murder his mother. She does go beyond not doing that, going so far as to help change long-held rules about adoptees not being allowed contact with their former parents in addition to providing him as comfortable a life and as much freedom in his decision making as she can manage as an isolated princess. Akuyaku Reijo Nanode Rasubosu o Katte Mimashita is a totally different ball game by comparison.
To start, Irene isn't a villain. She's been villainized for ridiculous reasons but is a good person working hard to make things better for her country and her former fiance prior to the confrontation event we see at the start of the series. We find out that before the awakening of her past-life memories, Irene was/is an avid and successful businesswoman even though she's considerably young. She's made successful partnerships with talented commoners, and thereby can't be faulted for class-based discriminatory behavior. (I say awakening here and am referring to her realization that the strange dreams she had as a child are memories of a past life. I do not mean to imply that her dreams in youth inherently count as the "awakening" to her past life memories; I consider the realization of what they are to be the awakening over having the experience of seeing the memory as a dream and believing it is a dream.)
In addition to this interesting approach of seeing the past in glimpses, I like the artist's fun approach to drawing Irene's inner monologues.
For example, when Irene is reviewing the game's storyline in her mind, the art often shows little chibi hand-puppet versions of the characters acting out the game's events. This is different from how others have gone about the game's replay like telling us what happened in the game via dialogue or showing it to the audience with as much detail as they would give a flashback or another scene being played out in the new timeline of events. It somewhat reminds me of Otome Game no Hametsu Flag Shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta's approach where Katarina's replay of the game's events happens via an internal discussion between parts of herself.
Tumblr media
It's a fun read and pretty unique to the I've-been-reborn-as-a-villainess subgenre of Isekai. I have little doubt that it too will have an anime coming out soon (or, at least, I very much hope it does!).
The love story in this work is also terrific, and even though I love long stories, I appreciate that this story comes to a close in just three volumes. I mean, I could 100% go for another 100+ chapters of this, particularly if we get to see the cast go through events post-game, ideally leading to a spectacular love story and action-comedy. But I also really enjoy that this work has come to a neat close, making it feel like a gift. A gift that I REALLY want to gets at least a 13 episode anime...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, perhaps what I find to be the best part of this story is it's ending--in which we see a conflict that is often present in the game-vs.-life mentality of these kinds of Isekai. Think back to Rising of the Shield Hero, and how three of the heroes treat the world as a game with only Naofumi taking it seriously. Now privatize this idea to the thoughts of only two characters, Irene and her "hero" counter-part, Lilia.
Lilia, who has full memory of the game and the story, treats the world as a game--one that was built for her and should bend to her will since she is the hero and protagonist supported by plot armor. When that plot armor is chipped away, she pushes through and disregards the world's nuances and the reality around her.
Compare that to Irene, who died early in her previous life and spent most of it locked up in a hospital room from what we can tell. Irene's only "life" is the one she is living now. These two ideas are displayed in how we see the characters behave privately. For example, Lilia goes about the world lying and abusing her power over the prince and others to make all sorts of politically destructive choices (of which she suffers no consequences for until the end). Meanwhile, Irene is always on her toes, trying to correct the issues she sees around her in addition to fighting for her life and, by extension, the life of the monsters, Claude, and others.
These conflicting ideas, in which Lilia views the world as a game and Irene views the world as reality, come to a point in Chapter 12 without ever needing to be fought out via words between the two:

It's a decisive moment for this underlying sub-plot/conflict that was a joy for me to see played out in such a unique way.
All this is to say that I HIGHLY recommend this series. You can buy a copy of the volumes on Amazon; you can find English copies online (but please support its official release).

List of Reincarnated into the Villainess of an Otome/Romance Novel Series I Like
Soooooo I’ve gotten sucked into the very specific isekai subgenre?trope? Of girl gets reincarnated into an otome game or romance novel she loves but is the villainess. It’s kind funny how similar these all are but at the same time so different. Now these arent all the titles just the ones I’ve read for at least a volume and like. (if asked i might make a list of the ones that failed for me). I’m gonna separate by types. and if you know of any other titles please do tell me.
Received Past Memories during Childhood
(The story starts with the MC remembering her past life as a child and growing up with the knowledge)
I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags...
Tumblr media
So this one has a good deal of traction since it has an anime adaption currently running, but I’ll be honest it’s not one of favs. This series is primarily a harem comedy and most of the jokes deal with the MC’s expectations from the game not matching her new reality and not realizing why, which can be very fun, if one note. The characters are likeable which is why I keep reading but I think some other titles on this list use the concept far better.  There is also a spin off version where the MC doesnt get her old memories until later in life and has to deal with the actions of the game character, but it’s fairly the same you arent missing much if you dont read it.
The Villainess Want to Marry a Commoner
Tumblr media
So in this one the MC isn’t trying to avoid a bad end rather she’s very excited to be able to romance her favorite NPC whom she wished was romance-able. (which honestly mood) I’m not very far in but it really takes the whole this is a game the furthest as there are stat checks and the MC basically carried over all the items and skills acquired in her past playthroughs.
Survive as the Hero’s Wife
Tumblr media
A web series, this one takes place in a book and the main pair are married as children and the MC plays double agent for the series antagonist to keep her and the LI safe. It’s fairly involved with a larger cast of characters but I’ll be honest this is one of the titles I feel would be stronger if it was just a straight fantasy series, the whole Isekai aspect feels like it’s there just to make the plot move quicker. But all around a good read.
Fiancée’s Observation Log of the Self-proclaimed Villainess
Tumblr media
Now this one has a fun twist on the formula in that it’s told from the perspective of the love interest. Some of the faults other titles are plague with are avoided here as the main character himself has no knowledge of the world being a game, his fiance does but while she’s happy to tell him she’ll be a great villainess and get him a happy ending with the heroine she never tells him why thats so important so he’s left in the dark and thereby so are we. I will give a warning there is  bit of fat shaming in this as the original games villainous was chubby  but this version is skinny, like its not awful but its not the best implication that bad is chubby and good is skinny.
The Evil Lady's Hero
Tumblr media
Another webseries set in a novel while we dont see the MC in childhood (save for some flashbacks) it’s stated she’s had her old memories since then. What I really like about this series is the MC’s personality and set up. So she died well into her 20s  and as such she is a bit more mature and levelheaded than most MC’s, her plan was to avoid the main cast of the books as much as possible but ends up drunkenly sleeping with the male lead leading to them dating. Her thought being I’ll just enjoy this for now and let him break up with me when he meets the heroine, all good. The pair play well off each other and I’m curious to see where the story goes.
The Result of Being Reincarnated is Having a Master-Servant Relationship with the Yandere Love Interest
Tumblr media
Now this one has a lot of fun with this concept as there are two other characters who were reincarnated like the MC. Because this game had only yandere love interests even the “good” endings arent that good, the MC also has limited knowledge as she didnt get to play all the way through so she feels less omnipotent than other protagonists, and along with not being the only person displaced it gives the series a nice refreshing feel.
Received Past Memories as Young Adult (The story starts with the MC remembering her past life after/during the events of the game/book)
I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m going to keep the Last Boss
Tumblr media
So I actually really love this series and wanna read the light novel version. The MC regains her memories during the beginning of the bad end for the villainess and thinking quickly saves face to run off and find the main antagonist of the  game the demon king who happens to be a secret route on the second play through. Its a very fun read but gets a little dark in later chapters I wont spoil cause its good but there is an attempted rape scene.
Simply Good Sense for a Duke’s Daughter
Tumblr media
This one kills me cause the world building and characters are so strong and dense it’s actually weakened by the fact that the MC was reincarnated is really just kinda brushed off most the time. As you get more and more invested the only real purpose her being reincarnated into an otome has is like some ideas for products to sell and how to make things that dont exist in this world yet. Like I wont say I don’t enjoy it but I think I’d enjoy it more if it was just a fantasy story.
Beware the Villainess
Tumblr media
God I love this webseries. The MC is just a delight as she decides she wont be evil but she wont be good either. What I like about this series is it kinda plays with the fact that the setting is a trashy romance novel cause as the MC learns more about the main characters of the novel she finds that the descriptions in the book dont match up because it’s very surface level. Example a merchant whos said to be very smart and savvy in the books is actually rather easy to outsmart, MC realizes it’s cause the writer only ever wrote he was smart never HOW he was smart. I would def give this one a read its a lot of fun.
For Certain Reasons, The Villainess Noble Lady Will Live Her Post-Engagement Annulment Life Freely
Tumblr media
This is again another series I think would be stronger if it was straight fantasy. The MC of this story actually has no idea the world is an otome game, she was  nurse in her past life and uses that knowledge for the betterment of the land, (though actually its hard to tell if she was really reincarnated or just has the memories of this person) The story could have moved just as well if the MC was given like a medical textbook from a mysterious other world. But the characters are fun so its not awful just not one of my favorites.
Reincarnated but not as Villainess
I Am Troubled That My Fiance Is a Villain
Tumblr media
The MC is reincarnated into an otome game with her memories as a child but as a side character, she ends up endearing herself and becoming engaged to the games villain character. Its very cute because she doesnt have to worry about a bad end she doesnt try to interfere much just keep those around her safe.
Seduce The Villain's Father
Tumblr media
Web series MC gets reincarnated into a novel as a minor character, as the story takes place prior to the events of the book she changes things to keep her new sister safe and uses the opportunity to try and avoid more tragic events. Its not bad I’d say the idea itself is interesting though its a little uncomfortable she calls the male lead “father”
A Villain Is A Good Match For A Tyrant
Tumblr media
Ok so this web series is kinda hilarious and I do have to spoil a little cause the person reincarnated is NOT our lead, its our villain. So this person was actually the author of the story, she had written a novel about a girl being reincarnated into the bastard daughter of a lord who gets engaged to a tyrant and has to pretend to be evil to stay safe from his enemies, and the author is so PISSED she reincarnated into a random priestess. Its so weirdly meta. The MC is the lord’s bastards and the events play out just like story only she doesnt get her body taken over. This series is very fun, cant wait to see how it goes.
Anyway this is my list if you have suggestions for me I’ll check them out. Will probably make another list later.

Themed Review Month: Help, I’m Trapped Inside an Otome Game as the Villainess and I Can’t Get Out!
Hello and welcome to another themed review month (yeah they still exist)! While the last one was about otaku, this time around it will be about if you haven’t already guessed from the title of this post otome villainess game manga. While the isekai genre has been around for some time now, it seems that manga about characters who reincarnate into an otome game as the villainess character have become quite popular as of late. I actually reviewed one called It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into The World of a Yandere Otome Game a while back (click here if you want to read said review).
Anyway, I will be reviewing the following manga this month:
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Volume 1
I'm a Villainous Daughter, so I'm going to keep the Last Boss Volume 1
Jishou Akuyaku Reijou na Konyakusha no Kansatsu Kiroku Volume 1
Arigato gozaimasu! Thank you! Ohohoho!
