I saw umineko stage ep3 today!! it was amazing. the quality level is insane. I got goosebumps several times and it even managed to make me tear up... everyone's performances felt like they all know their characters so well now 🥺🙏 the lights, costumes and choreography were all perfect too

some thoughts (major umineko spoilers obviously):

young eva/evatrice's performance in particular was just. literally perfect? the way she delivered her lines, carried herself, her laugh resounding onstage and the little things she did when she wasn't the center of attention were all 100% in character. she was adorable during the ceremony where she becomes the new beatrice, introducing herself to the goats and giggling w the 7 sisters, and she was absolutely terrifying in rosa's and maria's death scene. also mad props to the costume designer(s) who did her sailor outfit that turns into the witch outfit almost instantly

everything beato's actress did had me go :] there's a lot of cute beato scenes in ep3 and she was adorable in the goofy, endearing way og beato is in the story while still being cool and fun when needed in the other scenes

and last but not least eva's actress did an amazing job too, especially during the emotional scenes of her character (when she solves the riddle, finds the gold, hideyoshi's & george's deaths). her lungs' strength is impressive lol. it's been 4 hours and I still clearly remember her screams

overall I loved the way so many of the actors and actresses would just do little things when they were on stage but not in the spotlight/not talking, like the chiesters whispering in each others bunny ears instead of their human ears/covering their bunny ears because of loud noises, or the 7 sisters just jumping around and messing w each other, maria taking her notebook out of her bag and reading it, etc. they weren't just standing doing nothing and it always felt very in character, too. there was always something new no matter which part of the stage you're looking at

rudolf's actor looked and acted like he came straight out of a yakuza movie? ik he was already like that in the previous episodes but for some reason I felt it even more this time. might be because of the fight against the sisters before he and kyrie die (which was probably my favorite action scene btw. really cool choreography). I'm not complaining though. made me like the character even more

speaking of rudolf. at some point during one of the scenes where the adults discuss beato's first letter, he just... started massaging hideyoshi's shoulders? he did that for at least a full minute before hideyoshi's actor nodded as thanks and he stopped. I have no idea if this was part of the script or if the guys just decided it on their own??

when gohda does his night check of the mansion right before his death he was actually walking in the aisles with his lantern before he got up on stage!! he got to tell a joke and do some fun stuff before being killed and never being relevant again. rip

beato asking battler to give her a new name now that evatrice inherited hers, ronove on the side of the stage writing a stupid nickname on some paper to show her only for her to get annoyed, rip the paper from his hands and stomp on it

I don't know if this was done on purpose or not, but when eva fires the shot that blinds jessica and jessica accuses her of being the culprit, pointing at some random direction since she can't see anymore, she actually pointed at shannon's corpse on the sofa behind her. it could very well just be a coincidence. but. yea

krauss drinking straight from the fucking bottle during the golden land party scene at the end and getting completely smashed

ange!! she was so cool and cute. she punched the goats. I can't wait to see her in ep4 😭

battler literally Just Standing There at the very end, when ange and beato start duking it out before the episode's over 🧍

the curtain call was super cute. everyone got together to pose for the cameras before they realised beato wasn't here so they had kinzo cry for her in the infamous kinzo way and she graced them (and us) with her presence :)

battler's actor: "so we'll need your support -and- your gold for episode 4 to happen"

I am continuously perplexed at how a show as objectively bad and problematic as hotd keeps inspiring outstanding fanfics like yours and @gwenllian-in-the-abbey’s. Truly it’s a mystery to me, especially considering that the books covering the dance are supposed to be quite mediocre as well from what I’ve perceived. Just so you know,with that trailer out now I’m gonna completely blend out the events of the show and consider our fathers clad in red canon

I'm glad you like our slightly destructive approach to teh canon. I'm mostly fueled by spite and my dislike for George's and HBO's complete disregard for the historical context of the stuff they draw their inspiration from (you can't do the Matilda vs Stephen showdown and expect the same sense of injustice, when your main conflict is about Viserys' imbecilic approach to rules, Rhaenyra's weak-ass claim and papa/dragons being her go-to solution to all her problems, Daemon being a chaos gremlin, Corlys' malignant ambition and the Hightowers being the only ones who actually care about the rule of law.)

A lesbian romance doesn't automatically turn a story into a feminist manifesto, nor does a girlboss who's treated by the narrative as the second coming of Christ. Context matters and it's a mistake to view the Dance through the lens of modern ideals about egalitarianism.

GRRM's hubris when it comes to "Aragorn's tax policies" is just another thing that enrages me and Gwenllian, because the man completely misunderstands the medieval legal codes. Just because they were complex that doesn't mean they were fucking contradictory on their own; no one wanted civil wars breaking out each time a monarch died.

Problems happened when two countries with generational beefs worked on two different principles of succession, ie. England (male-preference primogeniture) vs France (male-only primogeniture), or if there was some dynastic fuckery that completely messed up the clear-cut succession lines with usurpations and cousin marriages (Yorks vs Lancasters).

Had Richard II (the son of the Black Prince) died peacefully without issue, the succession would have followed through the line of the Duke of Clarence, with Edmund the Earl of March eventually becoming the king (and he was Richard's heir, btw).

But that's not what happened. The son of John of Gaunt usurped the throne and it was then passed down through his line, because he was the crowned king. Now, you can argue whether or not he had any right to do the usurpation in the first place and whether or not he was the legitimate king and you bet people back then argued about that too. This ambiguity is how you create a proper narrative about actually conflicting claims. The only thing propping up Rhaenyra against her brother is the fact that Viserys is a moron.

How the fuck can I take F&B seriously and without the Dead Sea's worth of salt, when it pretty much blows Jaehaerys' posthumous dick about his wisdom when he "let" the council of 101 decide the succession (while politely ignoring the fact that Jaehaerys' own claim is legit only in the cases of either full salic or semi-salic succession, ie male-only), while never once it calls out Viserys out on his extremely dangerous decision. He gets to die venerated as the peaceful grandpa and all the blame for his incompetence is piled on Aegon II and Alicent.

Let's go through the possible succession systems, shall we?

If we follow male-preference primogeniture, the legitimate line of kings ends with Aerea because she was the eldest child of Aegon the Uncrowned, Maegor's eldest nephew. Only after she and her sister die without issue, Jaehaerys can become the king. Jaehaerys' canon ascension works only because Rhaena gave up her daughters' claims. The next in line would be Aemon and after him Rhaenys. But that's not what happened.

If we follow the salic law (male only), the legitimate line of the kings goes Aegon I -> Aenys I -> Aegon Uncrowned -> Jaehaerys I -> Viserys I -> Aegon II. This is probably what Jaehaerys wanted to ensure, since he challenged Maegor's kingship in the first place.

If a crowned king can choose his heir, then Jaehaerys was never a legitimate king and Aerea was the true queen, because Maegor, who had won his crown in the trial by combat, chose her as his heir.

What about the principle of seniority? Cognatic seniority where men and women have equal claims is out of the question since Aegon I was the crowned king, not Visenya. Male-only seniority would go Aegon I -> Aenys I -> Maegor I (uncontested!) -> Aegon Crowned This Time -> Viserys the Not Tortured to Death -> Jaehaerys I -> Aemon (only if his uncle Viserys has no issue) -> Baelon -> Vaegon -> Viserys I -> Daemon (EW).

Notice the distinct lack of Rhaenyra.

Team Black keeps mentioning the widow's law, but that's a bulk of nonsense. I suppose the misunderstanding originates from a (willful) misinterpretation of this passage. The book says:

Now, I highly doubt Jaehaerys intended for the law to mean that a daughter from the first marriage should come before the sons from the second. The wording is a bit unlucky, but I suppose the intention was to establish the legal position of the second wife and her children as united with the position of her step-children - she has the same duties towards them as if they were own, and the same goes the other way. Which would make sense. Because otherwise, no one would be desperate enough to marry a widower with daughters. Since we know that title and land ownerships have remained in the same families without changing hands once or twice since the implementation of the law, I really doubt the team black's literal interpretation of the passage was the one intended. Ffs, Viserys was pushed to marry again because he had only one daughter, meaning, this law wasn't viewed the way the Team Black wishes for. And I'm not even delving into the fact that this would be a female inheritance hack penned by Jaehaerys, if that was the case. Talk about ooc.

So, yeah, we're taking Gyldayne's interpretation of the past with so much salt our hearts are gonna fail.

I cANNOT believe this thought has escaped me for so long.

Okay so, you know my phoenix Vlad au I created, where he's the Duke of the Black Flame and by extension, one of or THE Duke of the Ghost Zone? (Honestly haven't decided yet heha)

Yea, ok so.

I don't know how it escaped me for so long, but y'know how Phoenixes are immortal right? By how they get reborn anew from ashes, yes?

(Idea territory btw)

So, I'm just gonna say that Vlad experiences that, because unlike Danny, he didn't stop aging at the ripe age of (really can be anything, but for the sake of this specific idea I'mma go with with) 40. He's envious of this, because he didn't like the brittleness and fragility of the human body when it's reaching its last legs.

Not even his ghost form was safe from the effects of aging, which baffled him, truly, it did. Probably had to do with his status as a halfa, which he disliked but what could he do about it, really.

So when he was finally on his last legs age wise, he practically welcome full death with open arms, ready to fully die and not be impeded by his human body.

No longer would his bones be break so easily! No longer would he need to use a cane as a walking aid in human form! No longer would his back scream at him from the slightest of inconveniences!

He would miss the ability to spawn candy from out of nowhere, however. That was nice.

So when he died, he was fully at peace with it and was ready to embrace full ghostly hood.

Then fate just decided to do a "FUCK YOU" with all caps to him in particular, because when he reopened his eyes, he was not met with the being a full ghost, no.

He was met with short limbs, a high-pitched voice, and the appearance of a 5-year-old.

You have got to be kidding.

He did NOT outlive Jack Fenton (out of spite, really) and Maddie Fenton just to have to relive his child years all over again.

He was a Duke for Observants sake, he couldn't be seen like this. The reputation he worked so hard to build, the respect he clawed into his talons and the awe he stole would go down the drain if this got out!

So he discreetly made his way over to the Master of Time and demanded he age him up to a respectable degree!

Perhaps he should reword that.

He politely requested the Master of Time to age him up back to adulthood, it didn't even have to be him in his forties! He would take even a goddamn 20 for Ancients sake!

Clockwork said no.

Breath Vlad. You cannot burn away the literal manifestation of time itself. You cannot burn away the literal manifestation of time itself. You cannot burn away the literal manifestation of time itself.

Then he noticed Clockwork's cheeky grin.

.

The more logical, sensible side of himself told him that no, do not try and fight the literal Master of Time, he would lose, and he still needs something from him.

But the more irrational, noticeably more feral part of his brain demanded that time burn for its insolence.

And, well.

The irrational side won out.

So of course, of course as soon as he acts undignified.

One Danny Fenton has to appear at the exact moment.

This was not a good day for him.

And of course, being the worst brat on the planet and the entire Ghost Zone, he had to make fun of him. Now, normally he would not react as strongly as he did, because of logical thinking and how he was just better than the brat, but was he feeling as logical then?

No, not really.

For the last time, he did not throw a goddamn tantrum, he's above that.

So of course, what two braincells he currently had access to came up with a solution to this current problem he was facing. The solution?

The Observants.

Appearances be damned he was not going to be taking jokes related to his current age any day of the week. So he flew over to them, dragging both the Master of Time and the Ghost King (yes, shocker I know coming from me.)- both of which, much to his charging seemed to be humoring him like one did a child- and demanded they do something to fix this.

And their solution was that he, now as a young child, would have to be taken care of due his current situation.

Vlad bluescreened.

Then calmly rebooted, and when he finally did so. Well, he very not so subtly decided to burn the Observants to the ground.

Unfortunately, Danny- who was practically his total opposite in nature due to his ice- put a quick stop to his attempts to burn those floating eyeballs to the ground. Then they had the absolute gall to act as if what he did wasn't at all reasonable and proceeded to use it in evidence for why he needs a guardian of all things.

He didn't need such a thing, he was perfectly capable of making logical, rational decisions as he was before his... 'rebirth'. Unfortunately, his statement apparently wasn't enough for them, because they very obviously, and very physically showed their doubt for such a thing.

And then, and then they did the absolute worst, most utterly reckless decision they could have possibly made in his decision.

The Ghost King (who was very smoothly made king after the previous one stepped down to live on a farm) was made to be his 'guardian'.

He's doomed.

The man wasn't even able to take proper care of himself on a good day, what do you mean he's going to be the one to (forcibly) take care of him!?

Ok, breath Vlad. He is the smartest (now that Maddie's dead), most logical and persuasive person he knows, surely, surely, he could find a way to get himself out of this predicament like any adult would.

Some small, tiny part of his brain, one not run by logical and getting increasingly bigger, whispered that he could always just. Run away.

The thought was getting more and more tempting the longer this went on with him not getting away, so you know what?

He did just that.

And now he's wandering the streets of some random world where goddamn heroes roamed about, living the life of an orphan and wondering how the hell he managed to fuck himself over so bad.

...He blames fate. It's always fates fault.

Also, what the hell is a meta and what does his wings have anything to do with being one???

Hi, do you have any thoughts on canon jet? I always love your takes! I'm studying the poem The Patriot by Robert Browning rn and it instantly reminded me of him. The confident leader sentenced to death and all

“canon jet” as opposed to....? [thinks about everything fans have done with/to this guy] oh.... right.

so my thing about jet is that ever since i was little, he has been my least favorite character in atla. like, to be clear, i don’t think he’s the most evil (certainly not), but he is the most boring. what could be such an interesting and dynamic and morally grey character (like hama!!! I LOVE hama) is just reduced, at least to me, to bad vibes. rancid vibes. his aura has fruit flies. he sort of reminds me of humphrey bogart in the maltese falcon or casablanca; like, i should be enjoying this, this should be good....... but i do not like this painting charlie its smug aura mocks me. over the years i’ve come to appreciate jet more. i think the tragedy of his character is effective, if only because of how his death affects katara (esp the parallel of jet dying in katara’s arms and yue dying in sokka’s arms, that’s very beautiful to me). i think he’s a good foil to sokka. i like longshot, smellerbee, pipsqueak, the duke. i like his awesome tree houses, the color of the leaves in his forest. basically i like everything about jet except jet himself. because of his vibes. his smug aura.

i realize that this opinion is incredibly subjective and divisive, and a lot of people may and do disagree with me. i know a lot of people ship jet with zuko (which is crazy to me, sorry) or generally find him sympathetic. and like, i find his motivations sympathetic, i find his backstory sympathetic, i find his trauma sympathetic, i find his ideals sympathetic, i find his death noble and moving in its tragic irony. but sokka’s vibe detector is never wrong, and that kid’s aura is the equivalent of when a cartoon villain puts poison in a teacup and a little skull and crossbones appears in the air. (he sort of reminds me of the guy i sat next to on a flight once who vaped in my face from his disgusting bubblegum flavored juul for most of the flight and then hit on me relentlessly for the last hour. like jet just feels spiritually aligned with that man, to me.)

anyway, to your point, he wasn’t really “sentenced to death” as much as he was tragically killed by long feng’s callousness. his death was heroic, but only in the sense that he lied to katara to protect her (although i do think she knows that he’s dead; she didn’t even try to use her spirit water on him, so he was clearly beyond saving). in the end, he wasn’t even the one to help them get appa back; zuko was (the irony of that is so delicious, like i may not ship them but their dynamic as foils is excellent). but his intentions were good, and that’s what mattered. and for what it’s worth, i do think he cared about katara. he definitely did use her and make her complicit and try to have her brother killed, but he did like her! (even if he refused to wear that ugly lil hat she made for him, which was so rude of him btw.) and in his final moments, he comforted her. he didn’t go out in a blaze of glory fighting the fire nation, like i imagine he’d always assumed he would. but he did die trying to help the avatar, telling katara that it would be all right. and i imagine he’s proud of that, too.

this is really long and you kind of have to know the plot of Heathers to understand it. Major spoilers for DRDT and Heathers btw

Ayoo, I'm here with some doodles and basic story outlines based off of @another-danganronpa-fan's DRDT + Heathers au! I took some like, creative liberties I guess. Didn't really change things at all, but added a lot of things! Sorry if I messed with your au a bit too much haha. (Also this is probably not the only doodles I'll make about this au it has snatched my brain.)

I'll explain some stuff along the way.

Xander as Veronica! (He still has his eye, its just sensitive to light and a different color). I feel like you could switch Xander and Teruko and the au would still work, but as the creator of the au explained, Xander just *barely* makes more sense as Veronica. He's more optimistic than Teruko is, and more willing to trust others. Also, David is a Heather in this au, so it makes sense that Xander would idolize them. Also also, we see canonically that Xander hates murder, but will do it if he really thinks it's necessary. I don't think he would kill people in this au on purpose though, and still feel as bad, if not worse about it than Veronica does.

Teruko as JD: Pretty obvious. Troubled family past, prone to violence if necessary, extremely distrustful of others? i don't really know if her luck would be a factor in this au, but if it was, it would probably explain why her life is so messed up. She'd kill some bitches.

Arturo as Heather Chandler. I feel like he's the only person in the cast who would be a big enough dick to be Heather C, and his obsession with beauty could be a factor of why he treats everyone like minions instead of people. He would probably die the same way, and for the same reasons as Heather C. Poisoned after making Xander and Teruko mad. His red ribbon... tie, thing would be the "red scrunchy" of this au.

David as Heather Duke: Yeah. Like, I feel like he fits her to a tee. After Art dies, he takes place as the leading Heather, and becomes a total asshole (probably similar to his breakdown in cannon). Also, since Arei is Heather Mac, it would make sense for him to try and force her into suicide, since that's what he insists he does in cannon. He may give Xander some hair-clips as a show of friendship.

Arei as Heather Mac: This one seems weird at first, but this Arei is in the middle of her redemption arch (for reasons that will be explained later). She's more snarky than cannon Mac, but also is going through a lot of mental turmoil. I'd say her sisters are still around. and her home life is pretty terrible, so she relishes in the power being a Heather gave her. Until she meets Eden, and realizes how little being powerful in high school matters.

Eden as: Martha! I made quite a few changes to her character, because her being in love with the Ram of this au wouldn't have worked. So I made her in love with Arei. Obviously, in cannon Heathers, Veronica helps forge a love confession to make a fool out of Martha, and I feel like Xander would be pressured to do the same thing. In doing this, he could also end up outing her publicly, admittedly probably not thinking about that as a factor (can you tell this part of the au is where I'm most passionate hflkas).

I feel like Xander wouldn't have bad intentions with outing Eden, but he still does it accidently, probably being like "THERES MORE GIRLS IN THE SEA BESTIE, FIND A BETTER ONE" in a crowed room while wasted.

I also feel like these feelings would be ACTUALLY mutual, unlike Martha's feelings for Ram. I added this in because I just don't think Arei and Arturo would be very close, or "Ram and Kurt", but seeing Eden's recent public humiliation added to her "friends" deaths might push her over the edge. It also would give her a reason to soften up, and fit the Heather Mac role.

Also, hearing about Arei's suicide attempt could also influence to Eden's suicide attempt later, since she doesn't really care about the other people's deaths in this au.

now to my least favorites...

...Ace as Ram, and Levi as Kurt. Hu as Mrs. Fleming makes total sense and I support that wholeheartedly, but Levi and Ace.... are kinda the only ppl who could fit the roles so 💀

I made quite a few changes to these two, the huge, major one being they don't try and SA Xander. There was no way in hell I was making them rapists, in any way shape or form. They're still pieces of shit, just not in that way (fuck Ram and Kurt in actual Heathers frfr I HATE those men oh my god JD was so based.)

Now, Ace and Levi are most definitely still jocks, and bullies. Ace would probably more of a harasser, while Levi is the one beating people up. As mentioned in my little doodle, Ace is only popular bc he "plays sports", rides horses I guess, and is rich, and Levi hangs out with him for only those reasons. Also probably a little gay idk

Instead of trying to SA Xander and lie about him sleeping with them, in this au Ace and Levi lie about Xander beating up Ace for no reason.

Levi is actually the one who beat up Ace, and idk, either Ace lies about it out of spite to Xander, or just doesn't remember and assumes its Xander. I'd say the remaining Heathers, Ace, Levi and Xander get super drunk in the woods or something (idk why Xander would be invited or show up but why not) and Ace said some dumb shit and got beaten up.

This gives both Teruko (for beating their asses before) AND Xander a violent rep, and Xander hates that, so he's pretty pissed. I'd say Xander would challenge them to a real fight, Teruko would bring the fake (very, very real) gun, and hilarity ensues (Ace and Levi get shot.)

Since Xander thought this was a harmless prank, he's pretty traumatized ofc

Then ofc, Teruko and Xander forge a suicide note. It would probably be like "oh yeah we were gay or whatever but levi beat me up so i killed him then myself."

ofc Xander is haunted by the ghosties he murdered <3

uhhh I haven't drawn the saddest parts of the au yet so get ready for a part 2 😈😈😈 which will also prob include better refs.

one unfortunate problem if largely doing away with the concept of aristocracy is that people don’t fucking know how titles work anymore. The idea that William III of Prussia was both a King or Margrave depending on the context would melt their brains. Clergymen holding land in right of their office? Inconceivable. The British Monarch ruling the channel islands as the Duke of Normandy because they aren’t legally part of the Unites Kingdom of GB and NI? Madness.

These days, people don’t even know that Christ isn’t the guy’s name. It’s a mocking title bestowed upon him by the Romans, who REALLY did not understand his whole deal.

You’ve heard of a Shougun? Well check this out: Shougun is an old military title that was given to a nobleman commissioned to do colonialism against the indigenous people of Northern Japan. Knowing that as well as what the office would eventually come to entail tells you something about the history of title and how its holders leveraged it to gain power over the centuries.

The final boss of understanding titles is learning about Personal Unions. How could William III be King and Margrave? Well, he was both King in Prussia (ask me about that in sometime) and Margrave of Brandenburg, but these offices were not one office. Prussia and Brandenburg had distinct laws, customs, and governing organs. Thus, he was both King and Margrave. Btw, this is how the United Kingdom became united. A Scot inherited the English throne and then a century on, his descendant rationalized the government of both countries by unifying their parliaments. However, this never formally dissolved Scotland, just its parliament, which is why it still has its own laws, nobility, and a few other concessions to self rule. Theoretically, Scotland leaving Britain wouldn’t necessarily undo the Acts of Union if the independent country became a republic. This would mean that Charles would remain King of Scotland, he just would lose de facto jurisdiction over the land that Kingdom rules. And yeah, every republic in Europe still sits upon land that a bunch of still living aristocrats continue to lay claim to. The last German Emperor didn’t die without an heir, so there’s still a Prince of Prussia and the French royal throne has a bunch of claimants from a number of branches of the Bourbon dynasty. The French imperial throne also has at least one, maybe two, Bonaparte claimants. I turns out that kingdom (or duchy, archbishopric, county, and so on), is not a place or a set of laws and customs or even the people who inhabit the former and are ruled by the latter. No, a kingdom (or duchy, archbishopric, county, and so on) is a mental construct defined by a title and a person who holds it (or could theoretically hold it).

What if Anne Boleyn had lived to see Mary come to the throne? Do you see Mary doing everything she can to get rid of her? Would Anne suffer from the same fate as Thomas Cramner?

Mm, that's a popular AU to be sure, but I think the political realities would have been rather more complex in such a counterfactual.

First, I'd have to ask the circumstances of them both surviving and Mary coming to the throne-- has Henry had his marriage with Anne annulled, with her being exiled from court? Or has Anne been Queen throughout the remainder of his reign? Has she had a son? Has there been any alteration or reversal to the Act of Succession (1534)? Has there been any alteration or reversal to the Act that declared Anne regent for her children, should Henry die? Have all her child/ren died, or has Elizabeth merely been married abroad (ie, is she currently living at the French court, wed to whichever prince or duke)? Does Mary have a husband, and if so, who is he, and what wealth and power and claims (to the English throne, or others, or merely title) does he have?

Assuming the second, and assuming Mary, as a sole femme, has a successful coup regardless (so, perhaps Anne attempts to assume regency with Elizabeth but is overthrown), again, the political realities are going to be complex. Edward VI's death happening in such secrecy and him altering the succession to make Jane Grey his heir without the approval of Parliament were circumstances that were to her advantage; all bolstered the rhetoric and justification of her coup, accession, and reign (based on the Act of Succession of 1543, even though she reversed her illegitimacy therein). The Marian myth was that John Dudley, out of pure ambition and greed, usurped the royal prerogative (of both HVIII and Edward VI) and forged an altered succession to place his daughter-in-law on the throne (and, as you mentioned, Cranmer as well).

So, in these altered circumstances, Mary's task would be near impossible. How could her propagandists argue that Anne had done the same, when all she had done was adhere to Acts of Parliament which were very well-known by the people? What would the justification be for her arrest in this scenario, much less execution? Historically, after his arrest, Mary petitioned the Pope at the time to have Cranmer excommunicated (likely, she didn't want to have any parallels with her father drawn in the case of the execution of Bishop/Cardinal Fisher) before his execution. In this, she succeeded, and being thus excommunicated, Cranmer was no longer Archbishop of Canterbury upon his day of execution. I would imagine that she would attempt the same in this counterfactual with AB and Cranmer both, and whether she was successful in securing their excommunications might then inform her actions.

Edit: Tbh, what I conceptualize for this scenario would be more like a succession/civil war for the throne with two female claimants (so, Mary and Elizabeth/Anne’s regency), similar in nature to that of Princess Juana vs Princess Isabella in the 1470s (it would be … very difficult for Mary to argue Elizabeth wasn’t Henry’s child had these Acts of Parliament remained and Anne herself remained Queen, though, as Isabella did for Juana re: Henry IV of Castile, since she didn’t really manage to do that even in the aftermath of Anne’s adultery accusations, and she certainly tried) and I think it’d be a toss-up as to who would emerge the victor. Reason being, as I was just reminded of answering another ask, Anne was the greatest landowner among all the Tudor consorts. Mary I was also a great landowner by the time Edward VI died, because the council was at pains to ‘buy her goodwill’… this backfired, though, because it strengthened her base of power (Jeri L. McIntosh has done some fantastic work in this subject, btw), and played a huge part in why her coup succeeded. Simply put, landowning was power, was wealth. That’s probably what it would come down to, had she been granted as many lands during the beginning of the regency council for Elizabeth or whatever son AB might have had.

Another thing that would tip the scales would be if Mary received foreign aid via Imperial forces, but given Charles V never supplied any in 1553…

And again, excommunication, although Elizabeth or whatever son probably wasn’t going to be excommunicated as a minor (just like Edward VI wasn’t), maybe Anne might have been? This could also be a factor in whether or not Mary received foreign aid from any Catholic powers. Although, yk, HVIII and Elizabeth I both were excommunicated and yet they were never ousted from their thrones.

But plot twist, it goes off the story a bit with a lot of changes to fit the two together better

For example, none of the characters die, they either recover or just get spared/spare Dust

Plus Mad has four children instead of 3 to fit in his main four children

Dust also has multiple children, all the kids he has now, he just has to save 1 from Monika while the rest are safe with whoever is Chris in this

Also the ending is incredibly different, before trying to face Monika, both her and Dust have a self aware moment of "Ok the original lore is that Miranda has to use the main character's kid to bring back her own.. But I(Monika) don't have a child so like idk why I even have your kid" so she just gives back Dust's kid, helps him find the others, and he just kinda takes interest in her power and becomes her successor. Getting Geno back too and just staying with Monika and the others.

There's also extra 'roles' to add more characters. For example, Blue, G, and Sci all become Monika, Mad, and Dust's "prized possessions" aka just their partners bc I said so. Blue gets with Mad before Dust arrives, Sci is "owned" by Monika before Dust arrives but only becomes her boyfriend near the end of Dust's adventure, and G is just sorta taken by Dust a few weeks into being Monika's successor. Btw, Blue and Sci are simps in this AU BECAUSE WHO WOULDN'T BE WHEN YOU HAVE MAD MIXED WITH THE VAMPIRE LADY AND MONIKA MIXED WITH MOTHER MIRANDA. YOU WOULD BE INSANE NOT TO SIMP FOR THAT!

But yeah. Thought of that on the spot all bc I thought of an RE: Village version of Blueberrylatte/Mad x Blue. Surprisingly this ship helps me create a lot of CV aus.

What Emanator I Think Acheron Is

I'm calling Nihility. This isn't just because of the proof that she's path of Nihility but a lot more based on what little concrete we know about her and how essentially entropy works since that is what Ix is: The Aeon of Nihility. Of Nothingness. Of Entropy.

And the thing about almost all life that succumbs to that the fastest is in fact our memories. That's partially because memory as a concept is not reflective, it is constructive. We have to recreate the details every time we think about something and thus the new version erodes a bit from the truth with each retelling. It can work a couple times but quickly is distorted, much like how Google Translate can do a pretty good job but you run it through a translator seven times and the product is illegible.

And of course, Acheron's memory issues is one of her biggest elements that we know about her so far. Her inability to remember even where she's going or how she got somewhere is a great gag but it also fits how Nihility in this universe is portrayed. Namely that... It's kind of chill.

Ix is explicitly called a peaceful Aeon. It's one of the few things ever stated about them in the game. They were so chill that some Destruction Dorks went "We want to kill an aeon and since Ix doesn't do shit, let's fuck them up!" Aha laughed, helped them out and they were never heard from again because they're idiots.

Speaking of: This should actually be pretty easy for a lot of people to figure out in Star Rail but Aventurine doesn't mention Nihility because of this fact. Aventurine is building a narrative that Acheron is dangerous and inherently evil and musing that her memory issues may be due to the Nihility consuming them as they;'re created doesn't serve his angle so he leaves it out. Instead, he essentially calls out Nihility's opposite: Finality, which is essentially working from the other direction by going from the end of time backwards, at least in theory.

Frankly, having both Nihility and Finality as two aeons in your story, both about the ends of things, is... Rough. Like they could do something with it but as it is now, we kind of have two different gods of nothing and if Finality is the god of death uh... Have you met the Xianshou or the Loufu?

Getting back to the point, there's one other element to this theory of mine for Acheron: Her reaction to Firefly and how it plays into how she didn't seem to want to draw her sword. See, Ix is peaceful because existence to them is meaningless. Everything will eventually die and end, thus joining with them so Ix doesn't have to do anything. However, take this to a kind hearted person and the idea of a life coming to an end in a brutal, immediate fashion is an absolute tragedy. They were going to die anyways so why did they have to die like this?

Now yes, she's a Galaxy Ranger, at least in theory, but even this tracks. People like the Annihilation Gang (btw, you could count Destruction as an off shoot of Nihility as well) are speeding up a process that doesn't need to be. Doing unnecessary harm when their goal will be met regardless. Any evildoer out there is doing such a thing so Acheron actually would live by the opposite of most superheroes. If you pose a threat to even two people's lives with your machinations, it is her obligation for her to murder you so that they may be taken by entropy instead, rather than allow the harm you wish to cause. Honestly, the bigger surprise is that ANY of Duke Inferno's family are still alive since they all wish to commit horrors upon the universe. If Acheron really did steal the invite from them (which would seem incredibly out of character so far and raise questions on how with her lack of planning/follow through skills) then I would assume she'd have just wiped them all out.

But then my brother who is SO hyped for Katarina would be very sad so ups and downs.

But yeah, with all of that said, I'm sticking with my theory. I've been told when I posted this on Hoyolab that supposedly the leaks have something to say on it but I won't say one way or another in case you're like me and try to avoid those. For now, thank you for listening and see you next tale.

BTW!!!!!! i live and die by a 'rodrigue lives' au. here's one version of how it happens in my head:

he survives the fleche attack. it takes him a long time to heal. manuela nurses him back to health slowly. (optional: they fall in love)

this STILL has a deep effect on dimitri bc for like a week it seems like rod is gonna kick it. so the rain scene and all that would still make sense. dimitri still gets his wakeup call.

side note: yuri does everything he can to help out as well, since he respects rodrigue a great deal. he makes sure he can acquire all the medicine/medical supplies/etc needed (not just for rod but for everyone, really)

rod recovers enough by the time they take back fhirdiad that he is able to travel there and share the moment with dimitri. he cries tears of joy and thinks of lambert.

he no longer fights in any battles, but he remains instrumental to the army's moral support. while spending time away from the front lines, he even comes to explore abyss a bit, and begins to understand what the situation is there. after the war he does what he can to support yuri's goals for abyss. (and dimitri does too ofc)

(optional) he also marries manuela after the war. in houses it's not mentioned that he has a living wife, but if he DOES having one, then manuela marries his wife too and they become a polycule

he remains duke until he dies of old age. as much as he wants to retire and pass on things to felix, felix doesn't want the job yet and the people love rod too much. plus he loves his job so much, since he gets to be the king's shield once more.

I've now read through the fast-pass episodes, so I thought I'd give some of my thoughts on Nevermore.

Spoilers beneath the cut :)

I was starting to like Annabel Lee up until the thing with Ada. I think the entire sequence really highlights what a selfish person she is and how dumb her entire plan is in reality.

First off, if Annabel was nearly the calculating mastermind she thinks she is, she wouldn't have completely tossed away someone who is obviously incredibly powerful and dangerous when there are definitely ways she could have spun that situation to keep Ada on her side. Now the biggest threat to both Lenore and Annabel's safety was given a clear field to collect that ally and do even more damage.

Second, her behavior in the Bell challenge absolutely shows us that a large part of what this is about is Annabel's love for games. It's really obvious through the behavior of both Ada and the other students that her entire plan for escaping is unnecessary; take out Montresor, Will, and Prospero and pretty much everyone would likely be Lenore and Annabel's allies and those who aren't wouldn't stand a chance against them. The entire "let me win so the others don't see you as a threat lol" was complete bullshit because everyone already sees Lenore as a threat, which Annabel is aware of. Also, sending Montresor after Lenore when he's already threatened her multiple times was the stupidest move she could have made if she wants to actually protect her girlfriend and not let on that they know each other because he literally reads minds.

Moving on, I feel like a lot of people just stop reading whenever Ada shows up because everyone is wildly misinterpreting her actions and just going "help mcs good, hinder mcs evil irredeemable bitch"

Like, the commenters on the newest chapters act like she's been actively chasing after Prospero with no justification, as though Annabel (who is shown to be pretty much the only person Prospero talks to or respects) didn't tell her that he was into her and that he would appreciate her chasing after him! She's a little delusional for still being so into him when he's awful to her, sure, but she actively believes that this is just because he's nervous about showing affection in public and it's shown that Prospero does actually indulge her crush when it serves him. Also based on the flashback, of course she would cling to someone who resembles her past lover, that's probably just how she thinks people who love you act! And then when her only friend completely drops her after the guy Annabel told her had said he was into her says he would literally rather die than be in a room with her, followed up by Annabel calling her a spoiled brat because she didn't get what she wanted (what the actual fuck btw) and sitting there stroking his hair in front of her, of course she immediately clings to the first person who tells her what she's been dying to hear from someone her entire life AND death. Is what she says about Duke fucked up? Yeah, but Duke also constantly makes fun of her and it's not like Duke wasn't ready to let someone he didn't care about die? I hope she goes insane and kills Montresor and then trades rooms with Lenore

Also, I would love to see more of Bernice and Eulalie's backstories. From what I can tell, it looks like Bernice was a flapper girl known for being a drunk who got hit by a car (or possibly murdered by someone trying to assault her, given the person saying they were "just trying to help her home" and making it a point that she was drinking)? And Eula was a Japanese immigrant working for an orphanage that got hate-crimed. I also like the rounding out of Eula's character other than just "creepy girl with wide eyes says and does creepy things". It's obvious that she's very protective of her friends because she couldn't save the kids in the fire. I love her, I want good things for her.

Pluto continues to be my child and I wish everyone in this comic would stop calling him weird for doing literally anything. Also just the fact that he hugs Lenore whenever he sees her 🥹 he's gonna be crushed when he figures out the plan. And standing up to Prospero!!!! That's his roommate and it's gotta be terrifying to think about pissing him off but he still did that for his friends! (Also shout out to Morella. "Oh no I tripped" istg)

I was very surprised that his crush is on Eulalie, and I honestly don't see them getting together? I feel like there's more evidence to suggest that Eula likes Bernice and Pluto likes Duke even if that's not what the authors are intending lol. If they plot twisted it so that Pluto had lied about his crush on Eula I would not be mad

Lenore has definitely moved up to my favorites, and I relate a lot to her backstory (no I was not drugged and locked in an attic before setting fire to my home I promise 😉)

Duke playing out the Cask of Amantillado. Oof. I do think this is going to trigger his Spector, because I'm guessing he died in one of those underwater escape tank things, so being chained up is what was missing from the Thalassophobia trial.

Also someone help Will, he is too nice for that vile snake of a man
